Yeah gpu will allocate vram without actually using it
vram usage should always be 100%, anything else is a failure on the games part
Ok
Ok now launch anything else that uses the GPU and oops you filled it completely and framerate is ass
thats not how memory works
Just comparing the usage to AW2
And yes when I was still stuck with a 4GiB VRAM GPU it was hell running anything modern, it was always full
perhaps, but have you ever wondered if it was perhaps that the gpu was actually slow?
How about this, I look at certain object in game, GPU suddenly cools down while claiming usage is 100%, framerate goes to shit, look away: instantly smooth. Restart game: now perfectly smooth at least for some time until VRAM is overflowed again
people dont understand what vram capacity issues look like
and what they dont look like except in super rare edge cases is low fps
3070 still has a comfortable lead with less vram, definitely doesn't look like vram is the limiting factor here
if you have insufficient vram, you should be seeing high disk usage, low detail textures, and popin
looooots of popin
Oh yeah that too
yup this aint vram
the only way to know if its vram is if you take 2 identical gpus and swap the chips for lower capacity ones
problem is noone does this
nvidia cuts off cores and memory bandwidth, amd cuts off cores
And also when I patched the driver to try to stuff more into VRAM instead of allowing it to spill the extreme framerate droppage was reduced š¤
Will have to see how the 3080 compares once the embargos lift
Just don't feel the need to upgrade yet but might change during the year
Hm, the amdgpu driver does have a simple argument to pretend the GPU has less VRAM, perhaps someone who feels like testing could experiment with that to see how it relates to framerate in games
AMD also had a feature that allowed you to pretend like you had more VRAM and that also increased performance. Even though your VRAM amount didn't change, then it was just using system memory.
Yeah, I suppose also part of this is the games themselves, how well they handle memory management
Should nvidia know about this and compensate? Sure. And should they also implement a similar fake VRAM feature? Probably. (Although amd killed theirs)
But they generally match things to the console of the time, and that's exactly all that it needs to be, unfortunately for us.
Last game I know of with actually high VRAM requirements relative to visual complexity was Shadow of Mordor.
people dont understand what that means, if the 5090 is basically fully enabled chip there is nothing they can put out as a titan card above it
Nv72 gaming edition when lol
the 90/90ti are basically titans now they just sold it as a gaming gpu now so people eat it up lol
I thought they stopped doing the 90ti cards
7 million per card for a consumer GPU let's gooo
I heard there was a discarded 4090ti was there ever a reason for that or nah
90/90ti/titan is just a naming, if the chip on it is XX102 and fully enabled there isnt anything bigger they could make
Oh Igu
Wafer scale consumer card let's gooo
have amd hire all intel gpu people and we probably would've gotten rdna4 halo
not quite wafer but mi300 at home
"Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang claimed in an interview with CNBC that Nvidia had spent around $10 billion in research and development for Blackwell's NV-HBI die interconnect. Veteran semiconductor engineer Jim Keller, who had worked on AMD's K7, K12 and Zen architectures, criticized this figure and claimed that the same outcome could be achieved for $1 billion through using Ultra Ethernet rather than the proprietary NVLink system."
Thought this was an interesting addition to the Blackwell Wikipedia page
sounds about right
spending more to keep it in house and lock your ecosystem down is a profitable way if you are a monopoly
Will Nvidia ever be taken to court for their practices
being a monopoly is not inherently illegal
They are in China at least
china
antitrust
Yeah it is pretty funny
There is other stuff Nvidia is getting class actioned for
theres stuff happening but its mostly just finance related like these that dont really matter regardless of the outcome
Yeah when you're a company the size of Nvidia it's just par for the course
Oh I thought it was?
Just very hard to prosecute
what, you want to sell a thing and then get sued because nobody else sells it?
the estimated arrival date was between 2-10 days and when I placed the order the delivery date was mid-March, why? @fallow bison @lyric hatch
What's illegal is buying out all your competition
Or doing other illegal things to drive your competition out if business
the estimate where?
does anyone who uses nvidia gpus have dis issue where when u update the game ready drivers it says there's a studio driver but when i update that it says there's a game ready driver again and it kinda loops
theyāre two different drivers, youāre overriding the game ready drivers with the studio drivers and vice versa
youāre just switching between the two
I was gonna say are you using the nvidia app or the geforce software
I had it with the new update back at the end of the year, but i uninstalled studio and geforce experience. Reinstalled and i only selected the nvidia app instead of studio. I wouldnt even use studio if you dont know what its for
You're not the only one having that issue, i found a thread on reddit with the exact issue and theyre still looking for answers. Mine worked after 1 attempt so maybe i got lucky but really, uninstall and restart.
before purchasing the keyboard
Yo my keyboard is bugging, whenever I press any button it starts pressing everything at once. Itās not my laptop as the keyboard that is attached to the laptop works fine. I watched the vid provided and nothing works and restarted it in the app. Can anybody help?
Thanks
Like Apple
eh i dont think theyve been convicted yet like intel or ibm or microsoft
pretty likely tho
Yeah
And no they havenāt I donāt believe, esp since it was only last year they got sued

"But I digress"
what tool is jay misusing this time
... how the fuck did he not know about that before, wasnt he doing reviews at some point???
Lol yeah he said that himself, he doesn't know how he didn't know about it before
..present mon is what basically all overlays use as the basis to get the data from
rtss, frameview etc. all are skins for presentmon xD
Yeah tldr is he's basically saying things like HWinfo64 have a slower polling rate for getting data , whereas this is faster , etc etc
oh god was hwinfo the only thing he used for reviews lmao
I wouldn't think so but kinda sounds like it lol
is rtss a presentmon skin?
Don't think so but I think it can integrate
skin might be a bit hyperbole but it uses presentmon yes
rtss is an aggregator, it supports presentmon among others
ah
Tiny cooler
then again I think even with the overhead hwinfo for enthusiats is more than enough, you can still use gpu busy and such from it, not like you are doing frame analysis lol
i wouldnt be surprised if hwinfo used presentmon tbh
Yeah that's how he's basically explaining people can use prensentmon is to see if they have a bottleneck etc
its MIT not gpl, pretty cool
I assume it might use presentmon for gpubusy and such to not redo that but still the much better tool than just presentmons default skin
heck its pretty crazy that intel is running this
im just flabbergasted how hes only now thinking about how he could use logging software for looking at new hardware
guess it just confirms my opinion of just telling people look at his watercooling videos and ignore the rest lmfao
sure but its worth noting that consolidation in benchmarking is real bad
I would argue looking at benchmarks from someone who very clearly lacks technical understanding might be worse
gn has chased their own tail into a knot, their benchmarking is nearing uselessness for games now
I just dont think I could trust jayz data when he seemingly still doesnt understand what supported ram frequencies are and when stability is supposed to be guaranteed lol
GN is always better
nah
gn has their own set of issues
but I at least trust steve to not read 1DPC stable numbers from a table when running quadrank lol
i love jay but i like watching him for the silly
id guess that jayz's reviews are both more accurate (for in game results) and closer to what an end user gets
gn choosing not to benchmark popular games is really dumb
HUB is best
idk I wouldnt trust jay to notice when a setting doesnt get applied like it was in cyperpunk when that and doing correct setups to have comparable accurate data
the average enduser doesnt switch between 3 sets of gpus
sure but i wouldnt trust gn to test realistic settings in cyberpunk (aka settings that the game would select on its own)
thats fine, I can find out when someone else has the game if RT just adds flat 20% on everything and still have consistent data I just look at as a relative
I can still make use of that data
we can, but its still misleading
sure but thats different from being unable to trust the data to be correct
i trust the precision of gn
theres no shot that anyone is more precise than them
but precision and accuracy are very different
and you need both to be correct imo
and I dont trust jay enough to correctly read the reviewers guide lol
š¤·
gn will never publish a scaling factor, and they probably even think its justified since game built in benchmarks are even less accurate than them
If these reviewers really wanted to give us average user results then make a test bench with all the bloatware and rgb software installed possible and a corrupted windows install
then run a test
my hatsune miku desktop buddy is a necessity
I saw a funny comment that called him the diablo 4 of tech reviewers
looool
crazy thing is gn is the same as userbenchmark practically, yet noone cares, they are a saint
neither does userbenchmark
yes they did
nope
or how the ranking is calculated idk what it was exactly
the tests have stayed the same, and the accurate results have always been up on their website
its just rankings yep
which is arguably worse as thats the only thing most users see on an SEO website
maybe, but all that people see on fps charts is the number
and they will buy the cheapest card that meets the number they want
if the number is off by 20%, they will be buying a 20% better or worse card than they need
its looking like for this gen thats gonna be a fkn grand at the top
like they are doing good science, but what they arent doing is providing a useful review
only redeeming thing is i actually think that people might not look at the numbers and just the relative positioning of the cards
yes which is why nvidia always sells due to halo tier and why I think the UB ranking is worse for the average consumer because they look at the top result and then take what works in their price range
i mean gn just so happens to run into the same problem tho no?
they dont present the rankings different than what their data shows though unlike UB
kinda
gn changes the data to match the desired result, ub changes the interpretation of the data to match the desired result
gns results are more trustworthy because the desired result is precise data at the cost of accurate data
where ubms desired result is amd at the bottom of the chart
but the actual data itself is less doctored even if the result is bad
i need to talk with any mod
anyone know what brand this case is?

Ay does windows know no one wants their dogshit bloatware
They have to have a version that is just barebones without those ISO files that make your system less safe
it mostly cuts media playback stuff and breaks a lot of programs that expect you to have those

Things that require like TPM stuff
MSFS can't run without it

i think what Monkey is looking for is more akin to the LTSC version than the N versions, the N version only removes media player, which really is not that significant.
LTSC is truly barebones and removes the windows store, cortana, etc. but does require an enterprise license iirc.
It's made for embedded and other mission critical type systems
I use it, when I have to use Windows, anyway
There's lot of FUD that gets posted regarding the whole de-bloating of Windows which usually results in people running random scripts that'll end up breaking something.
I do wish Microsoft wouldn't make it so hard to use Windows 11 with an offline account as it doesn't really hurt anybody. Any OS component/driver control panel that downloads from the store will do so automatically anyway.
are you a mac or linux enjoyer normally?
linux
i grew up around macs for a bit though, my dad was a graphic designer working on magazines and had an imac G3 which was very cool, and later one of those intel imacs from 2005ish
all of my own computers were PCs though
I agree. Windows 10 LTSC is an actual, real, official microsoft release though which does not require you to run any funny scripts to get working. Only problem is acquiring a license. If you're into that
I don't know anything about windows 11 though lol
Just use Windows Ghost Spectre
neeeeeerd
Yeah, already available from October 2024.
i don't enjoy using linux :3
Iām gonna be honest i dont think anyone "enjoys" using any OS
Who is
Itās all about using the least terrible one
Outside of gaming, I'm very happy with Apple's line up of operating systems.
- mac expensive and apple is bad. people see it also as some kind of status symbol and that's not something i vibe with
- windows 11 is malware
I guess it's the year of the linux desktop for me at least and not by choice fwa haha
Plus I generally like their devices.
These are the exact reasons i am very strongly considering swapping to linux
well, i have until 2027 for windows 10 ltsc
Mac isn't generally that expensive anymore though.
Especially now that my main games all run on linux anyway
Losing league of legends isnt a big problem either so linux might be good
Losing that game is a good thing probably
dont think i have many windows dependencies left in my life
only things I can think of is my nintendo ds capture card, and well i gotta test software on windows. the latter is a problem that's gonna follow me forever
i dont play any games that aren't runnable on linux
My issue with Linux gaming is the whole anti-cheat support could go at any time... not to mention developers could add/change anti-cheat at any time. Apex disappeared over night. FFXIV could add one at any point. I'd hate to have a Linux gaming PC and then lose support for games I want to play.
dual boot..
dont hate apple. its great!
it's a pain though i agree
their products are not very open and they have a long history of anti-consumer practices
re: apple
- mac expensive and apple is bad. people see it also as some kind of status symbol and that's not something i want to be associated with

- microsoft can suck my [redacted]

their devices work together wonderfully and the products are high quality (most of them)
There's also enough up take of Windows 11 and the officially required hardware that we could see more anti-cheats (and potentially DRM solutions) functioning like Vanguard does. With Windows 10 support ending this year and PS4/XB1 multi-platform releases pretty much drying up... I can see PC system requirements shifting to Windows 11 24H2 being the minimum to run a PC release.
this is all true KD, always has been, haha
1000$ monitor stand
And they only overcharge you by a few hundred percent at times
yeah but as long as youre fine with that the products are great
I love having to pay750$ to add 50$ of hardware so my laptop has specs I need
my problem with apple is not the products (well, apart from lack of repairability)
I love having a laptop released in 2024 with 8 GB of RAM

I fully agree on the pricing. but the products are great and i love their ecosystem

I donāt care itās highway robbery if you need more than basic specs lol
these are normal prices and not something I could buy an entire second high end machine with lol
Idk how real but @lyric hatch
I have quite an extensive list of Apple devices š
- iPhone 16 Pro Max 512GB
- AirPods Pro (first model, waiting for the Pro 3 so I finally ditch having any lightning cables)
- iPad 10th gen
- MacBook Pro 16" (M1 Pro, 16GB, 512GB)
- AppleTV 4K /w Ethernet (whatever the latest model is)
- Watch Ultra 2 in black
You dont understand, apple storage chips are worth more by weight than gold
No Vision Pro though... probably ever because it's just way too expensive for a fancy screen on my face.
It just makes sense really
I have quite a lot of Apple devices too
:
Oh, and
I'd like to try the Vision Pro at least but I'll wait for a massive price cut, amongst other changes, before ever considering a purchase.
Yeah seems about right
I used to be the staunch Apple hater when I was younger... then I did finally buy an iPhone one time and that was that
no pink, F phone series
Now it just worksā¢ļø and I can get on with my life.
itās insane
I have a weird mix of apple products
like the potential for it is crazy apple just needs to make it more accessible
i know a few people with them some use it for work
But I can't bring myself to go iPhone
If I did ever switch to a Samsung or Pixel phone, I would also get the earphones and smart watch from those brands as well because of the ecosystem stuff that those companies also do with their own hardware.
i couldnāt switch off iphone ngl
iāve used my friends samsung devices but i donāt like them
Iāve switched off iPhone a few times but always come back
The S Pen, for example, seems really cool
ios is much cleaner + facetime , integration with my mac and ipad pro, watch etc
I won't ever have iPhone, because I don't see myself spending 5~10x more than I usually do for a phone
I'd probably use it a ton if I had a Galaxy S24 Ultra
OnePlus seems really nice in the price for performance
Might be exposing my age here but I had an iPhone 3GS that was my last iPhone
The OnePlus13 seems soooooo tempting right now
Low-end Samsung
Good specs, no Samsung bloat, nice screen, cheap and easy to replace parts, will last for 3~4 years
I loved the Motorola droid line I was super into android back then
Pretty much what I do but not low-end, been on the base galaxy s for 3 phones now
My plan is to use my 16 Pro Max + Ultra 2 for a five year cycle and then upgrade both in 2029
Iām already looking to upgrade my 16PM this year lol
Galaxy A34
Can highly recommend
Broke a tile in bathroom while dropping it
Google Pay is the same thing
When I last had an Android, my bank (Barclays) were insistent on using their app instead of Google Wallet or w/e it was called at the time
And it was shit
Sad samsung pay never took off worked at any eftpos terminal wirelessly
there's a thing such a 'brand loyality' once people decide to go for something (e.g. Apple) its hard for them to switch off. They're used to the software, have other products that work within in the same company etc.
Android and iOS both have their quirks but I've grown accustomed to what Apple do (and don't do).
Ive used both, they have indeed things that the other one does better or worse.
But then again, Im not that tecchy to care of enough to keep on switching to whats 'the best' on the market atm
The wall is a lot higher on iOS
will apple ever fix wifi 6e on iphone 15
iOS is dropping the ball real hard when it comes to customization thats base integrated. You need some many extra apps or steps to get things going
the things I could do on my Samsung like 5 years ago was crazy
Kinda miss that
You must only customize within the parameters set by Apple
Ah, 2 more years...
And we'll finally have easily replaceable batteries in phones
they could just do the same thing as Samsung does, collab with artists etc. and then offer that in a store. But Apple hates doing that for some reason. Silly American company
You can either have (tons of customization) or (user-friendly consistent design)
Android phones are sacrificing a bit of user-friendliness towards customization
iPhones quite the contrary
You mean like having a dedicated back button that's always in the place you want it to be
give me both
Hmm... it's bigger than I expected
thats what she s-
This was so cool honestly
low-end means it's massive
for low end phones they blow all of the 200-300⬠on a big bright screen and a halfway decent camera
No, camera is potato
and if you want a phone that fits anywhere you have to either buy a 3 year old one or pay upwards of 1000⬠for the flagship
because apparently only rich people get sane phone dimensions
Personally I prefer my phones a bit more on the smaller size. Feels quickly like im holding a mini tablet in my hand with some of them

Sizewell C, 2nd nuclear power plant in the UK, shows little learning.
Nuclear still ~ $10 000/kW
Or you could put solar on your roof:
Solar ~ $2 000/kW
10 kWh/kW of battery f~ $3 000
Seasonal storage ~ $3 000/kW
That's already a better deal, but...
https://t.co/luk8rMUgGq
Nuclear power plants don't make sense anymore
the math isnt that simple (though I agree for the most part)
area density if you need a lot more than what solar+storage can do, long term needs to factor in cost of recycling panels and batteries vs nuclear upkeep etc.
Base load via nuclear is absolutely the way to go
Nuclear power is still very important
And far better that other non-renewable sources
Starting to sound German with this attitude
There's a ton of FUD surrounding nuclear
And it's absoslutely ruining our infrastructure
the issue we have is not that we shut down nuclear, its that we shut it down without putting the money into replacing both nuclear and coal by now
we could have (and should have) been at a point where we have more or less the same energy production here but coal is gone entirely
"without putting the money into replacing both nuclear and coal by now" with what exactly?
LNG?
i mean germany was more capture by the whole nuclear waste storage scare
oh and people going nuclear isnt eco
mostly wind+storage, we are lacking a high energy power line from north to south as we have a shit ton of untapped areas where we could have more turbines
yeah
they kill da birds
bavaria alone cucked us so much due to sƶders incompetence on that topic to appease his stupid voter base instead of showing the benefits
Politics really does ruin our infrastructure
its sad how uninformed most germans are on nuclear, solar, wind and wave energy generation
so they prefer coal cause they know how it works
Public transport networks globally have been ruined because of misinformation
Gotta have everyone driving cars instead
imo the sad part is you could be uninformed about nuclear because what does it matter if you could just replace it and coal anyway with cheaper overall solutions
i wish that was why Deutsche bahn sucked
I mean it is part of the problem
caused the people in charge to not put enough money towards it because the automotive industry was lobbying hard enough
imo nuclear rn is the better option compared to long term turbine and solar as we have no good recycling plans for those. iirc a lot of turbine blades just land on massive landfills laying around
i love the gambling part of DB
DB has no gambling part
they only have a "let stuff break so the government pays for replacements" part
thats my point, we had 15 years we could have used to push that industry to be profitable but instead we lost almost all solar panel manufacturing to china because no local support
I'm pro nuke, don't get me wrong.. But economics and time scale wise it doesn't make much sense. It's also super high risk as far as investing goes to build. It's always a lot more expensive than budgeted.
The best time to plant a Nuclear Power Plant was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.
Solar generate now.
Nuke maybe in 10 years if it goes to plan
like we paid 1.x billions in subsidies to coal in 2022 alone, if we had put money like that towards making turbine blades not a wastefill we wouldnt need to argue about this at all
You don't go all solar, or all wind - or all nuclear.
going into nuclear now seems kinda useless
Wind and Solar are both temperamental to nature, and people put different loads on the grid at different times - which is where some kind of fossil or fissile fuel comes in.
you can, if you have the storage options that are not just lifepo batteries
big storage is what coudl easily cover the cap
France's energy grid with all its nuclear powerplants is keeping the entire Eurozone economy afloat sooooo
You still have to have a plan ready in case there's a week of next to no wind, or clouds.
France
the energy grid that needed to import electricity from germany a ton?

Since the 1960s, weāve known that light water nuclear reactors werenāt the only ...
nice thumbnail
thorium is like nuclear fusion, I think I first heard of it coming soon in 2010
It's the same thing. You just have liquid fuel instead of rods.
And it can help recoup some of the material for more fuel - and is on paper cheaper and smaller scale possible.
Thorium.. Yeaaahhhh right
yes and it has been a thing thats coming next year for at least 15 years
Sure. And Solar keeps getting better and better every year.
I didn't say it was a guarantee in the next few years. I'm saying that there's interesting research being done to help make Nuclear less of a risk - especially economical.
yeah but you need to make it a lower economical risk for it to match solar/wind first and then it needs to still overtake to make more sense than those lol

Solar and Wind is not the solution - it is part of it.
And drought so nukes need to be turned off
the year where germany had the biggest exports to france ever because their nuclear net had issues?
honestly the best option is to have a mix of solar, wind and possibly hydro backed up by nuclear
yea at that time they could operate ~half of their nuclear plants
Thankfully there was solar
Hydro heavily depends on location, the whole country of Norway basically runs purely on hydro because of their mountains
thankfully germany had renewables is what you mean
to put it in other words: if there is so little sun, watermovement and wind, that you would need to fall back to nuclear if you proberly budget turbines/panels and storage, you would not have time to worry about electricity because more shit was going wrong already lol
i mean importing doesnt always mean you dont have enough yourself
Oh - So we'll just shut down all of the coal and oil plants.
Did you hear everyone? Solar and Wind solved energy
yes that would be the plan
often times its just cheaper

I dont know what you think I am saying, I'm not saying we are already at that point where thats possible
It'll never happen. And it shouldn't.
why not
the dream would be only using renewables and having enough energy storage
The dream would be moving energy intensive industries to locations where energy is cheap and easy
But the German's can't handle that reality...
Okay, out of context boyos, should I get this with a 7800 XT?
https://www.jimms.fi/fi/Product/Show/190801/b650aea-7700x-32gbc-6000/gigabyte-b650-aorus-elite-ax-v2-ryzen-7-7700x-32gb-ddr5-6000mhz-tuotepaketti
Youd need a pretty damn massive energy storage if you want to keep something like the nordics running through winter when there's barely any sunlight or wind and a lot of electricity consumption for heating
cuz I'm tryna get a decent new PC soon, as my friend do be buying mine
the nordic areas have massive waterturbine productions, nobody says to only use wind and solar there lol
only norway and partly sweden have big hydro
finnland is also what, 1/4th hydro?
Redundancy. You don't have emergency power generators in Hospitals for when everything's doing fine.
Like 1/10th atm
I'm not saying to not have redundancy, you can have enough redundancy without needing coal/oil/nuclear
No.
uh yes thats not that difficult to imagine
I'm just glad nobody mentioned hydrogen yet
So, about hydrogenā¦
Difficult enough that... literally no one has this imaginary technology in infrastructure.
so far renewables have prooved to be more reliable than fossile/nuclear
the sun comes out every day
supposedly 20% based ont his stats form 2024?
what if we burn the trees
but extreme weather can mess with fossile/nuclear in a lot of ways
looks outside
uh huh.
Oh I missed the reply
That supposed to be to this
mansen I am not talking about doing that with todays setup, I am saying we wasted 15 years in germany on getting(most of the way) there already
If that was the case, we wouldn't have to power on a coal plant ever. And we will never reach a point where solar, hydro or wind will somehow magically store energy for long enough to be considered a proper "we need it NOW, this instant" redundancy.
Does that mean capacity or the total percentage generated
even with overcast they are more reliable than fossile/nuclear
droughts are to be expected annualy by now
net production
we already store a lot with hydro rn
Because last year was pretty fucky for electricity here, lots of production issues which caused the prices to skyrocket
and lifepo storage is becoming more viable by the year
and unlike thorium reactors is in actual use already
you can make your house energy self sufficent with hydrogen storage, its just not cheap enough or efficent enough to make sense for everyone lol, its like 50% energy lost but if you are in a house in a forest all on your own without a connection, that could work all year around
yea my brother actually looked into local hydrogen storage
we already have bad solutions for it, I dont see the big hurdle in making that a good solution in years
that is with a fuel cell
Yeah I guess we have enough hydro capacity for 1/4th of our needs then, unless that chart includes what's bought from sweden
i got a better idea
you could push it down if you used ICE generators
Hydrogen is also nasty stuff
ehhhh
it's not super nice
but better than a lot of energy stuff
it shows the percentage of net electricity creation in finnland, so no imports or peak/low
yes I dont think hydrogen is the long term solution that will make sense, its one that in very few cases can make sense right now (sole house in a forest etc.)
š meanwhile the large right populism party in germany wants to just get rid of all wind power
whopping 20+% of our energy mix that would just get deleted
hydrogen has its uses but its mostly an excuse for fossil companies
well they are stupid
technically you can make very large easily scalable energy storage
what's up with Germany shooting themselves in the foot in the middle of an energy crisis, first nuclear plants and now that
buuuut you loose a lot of efficiency over something like lifepo storage
nuclear shutdown had better reasoning at least
too expensive or what
well the politics at the time when fukushima happened were very conservative so they made sure people dont vote them out for the greens but made sure to keep the coal lobby happy
Burning coal is much cheaper i agree but bruh
safety concerns (personally don't agree with those but still a legitamate reason)
no local fuel production unlike coal
no end storage solution
in the end we bet more on gas, which was a mistake imo
but at least we also built a lot of renewables
basically it was a effort to take wind out of the sails of a energy movement that people wanted by doing only what benefits them in the ends the most instead of what would be the best long term solution
ya
reason for getting rid of wind power now is to make us more dependant on russian gas
and thus we now have right wing parties using the 15+ year old debt to say wind energy and the green party are the reason our costs went up
to essentially force us to stop supporting ukraine
this is a nice graph, you can see where solar especiall starts to grow, around 2011 when fukushima happened
now imagine all these years we would have put the coal subsidies into more local solar or whatnot
wasnt there some EU directive basically forcing big buildings to have solar panels in the future too
yeah thats happening here now too for new housings
but we basically lost all local manufacturing to china because they put subisidies out for them
so if we had that here we could grow so much more for cheaper and faster
just the typical short sighted political decisions to make sure your supporters like you in 4 years and not in 20
yeah.. we have those too. and usually they are terrible deals so residents opt for the lowest amount. and replace them later with a proper array
creating lots of ewaste
Hydro is goated when the location allows it
Certainly a lot of water here
lots of water in NL as well.
just not a lot of height
build some mountains
Whole country is full of volcanoes so no issues here
we had some plans apparently to do that :p
and also create a hole in the sea somewhere to create an artificial hydro thing
oh wow
Thanks Grok Google.
I wonder what discontinued nuclear power plant Google will decide to revive in order to get power for their AI training data centers
Microsoft called dibs on Three Mile Island and hope to have it activated by 2029
Let it burn
"will Donald Trump be able to save it once he is in office?"
OBJECTION! Leading the witness
The US will once again fail to learn that people just find new apps...
dolan'll fix it
no this is great because now there is a simple precedent that if they proof ties from musk to putin (aka whenever they want) they could take twitter away or force it to shut down depending
Vine anyone? š
š
they already have an even weirder chinese app
Mhmm
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E2zgC2A0ehU lmao one tiny screen that was almost hidden, good news though that it seems to work?
At CES, QDEL was the buzzword on everyoneās mind. Short for Quantum Dot Electroluminescent, this display tech uses quantum dots to create light directly, offering OLED-like performance without drawbacks like burn-in or limited lifespan. Despite initial concerns about seeing progress, a prototype emerged, tucked away at TCL CSOTās boothāa promisi...
Incredible, the faster QDEL comes the faster we can kill off OLED
The blue light diode dying fast though is still a big hurdle to overcome
uhh we dont really know what the current issues are with qdel so we dont know what the current hurdles are
We know what the 2024 hurdles were and that was the blue color dying extremely quickly
And that was a technological barrier that nobody knew if we'd even be able to overcome
I hope they figured out anything on that front
`which use of the acronym is that
its just using quantum dots for the light directly, so nano led sorta
qdel is used for both the qd on lcd and qd on el
yeah its been at ces for like 3 years in a row
no this is like the second
2024 was the first one I think
TCL might have had an exhibition somewhere before that, they are leading on that one
I think Sharp also are doing progress on it, can't remember
boe had one in like 21 or 22
tcl didnt even have anything before today, sharp made the previous years one
and samsung before that
But yeah I hope they do make a major push, QDEL is incredible
The price and performance is just so incredible it'll be the natural successor to LCD panels
i mean it has the same burnin issue as oled
Though the barrier is gigantic, the blue quantum dot has low lifespan, far lower than OLED
boe had AMQLED which is similar but not the same I think
When they overcome that, and it's probably as difficult as inventing the blue light diode, we'll have the next gen panel tech that obsoletes everything
In theory it's far less an issue than on OLED, the lifespan should be a lot longer on QDEL
i mean it will be a while before its better than microled
Not currently
Microled with QDEL being a thing is not even worth pursuing
Microled is insanely expensive and has no real benefits over QDEL
But that's theoretical
other than the fact that microled has zero burn in and image retention issues
which qdel and oled do
qdel is just a different approach to solving oled burn in issue
current qdel has WORSE burnin than oled though
nothing says its guaranteed to take over if you can just make oled not die in a normal lifespan
so for all we know qdel might never make it to market
Yes, current QDEL is worse than OLED by a long mile and we don't even know if it's fixable
the down side for microled is cost
But if they fix the blue light problem, it'll be several times longer living than OLED
oled needs to fix something they are improving on rapidly, qdel needs to even work and then be improved on
its nice tech and I hope it works well but I dont even think its likely it kills of oled lol
OLED is still pretty expensive, though it's getting cheaper, QDEL has the benefits of being with higher theoretical longevity, just as good of a picture and being insanely cheap to manufacture
Again it's pretty funny that QDEL can just be.. printed, the cost is insanely low
But man if it isn't just sad the main problem with it is potentially unfixable
how do you think they make oleds?
they print them
and how do you think they put qd on oleds and microled?
printing
Except it's nowhere near as cheap as QDEL is purported to be
the issue with qdled is literally the qd burn in
I wonder what the refresh rates would be on QDELs
I have not seen anything on that front
same as oled and microled, as fast as the driver
We can hope
It's non-organic so maybe heat would be less of an issue
oh no qdel again
I think you are too hung up on the organic part of oled, thats not the only downside they have lol
the two big downsides of oled is they hate heat and the cost
from what you could get and what downsides there are I would almost see qdel as basically another oled flavor from consumer viewpoint, if they make it into a product
oleds dont last long, burn in, have retention and arent bright all due to how bad they are with heat
right now qdel has the same issue, but even more extreme
its why they arent making just normal led lighting and such with qd
all high power leds are just different phosphors on uv or blue leds, qd are more efficient than phosphor
but they cant take the heat
Guys I think my PC is done
Something doesn't add up
I run geekbench 6 on my PC on windows it got 2000 something single core and 6200 something muti
I boot up Linux thinking it might have too many things running in the background
It got like 2.4K and 8.1K
On a 11900K
no thats just geekbench being different
dont use tools if you dont know what they do
On my 10600K ITX it got like 7.6K muti
Idk cuz I wanna test something
then test it with something thats not different under linux
No way it's not running games properly after I reinstalled Windows 2 times
why tf would you care about geekbench numbers when you have issues with games
uh cuz I have other issues with the CPU performance
well gb isnt doing to find that unless its like literally just not running clockspeeds it should be at but task manager would show that alone
How to test that then
check cpu temperatures when under load
you also havent said what the issues are so idk what could help
it's just slow
I've tried like install windows on two different drive
Tried different ram
Kinda, I installed a clean windows 11 and tried running games on it, it doesn't run like it did before
cpu temps are fine?
Yeah
what windows version?
there's multiple version/update of win 11
24H2
well theres the issue
a lot of report indicate that specific version causes performance issue, you can try downgrading
there's a comment that says 23h2 is fine, so something similar or earlier than that
23h2 should be fine
Alright
I blocked 24h2 from my windows pcs cuz its shit
Also breaks some ubi games
And path of exile 2
I have no idea 24H2 have problems
I, too, have 24H2 without problems.
I reinstalled Windows like a month ago and the ISO I downloaded is 24H2
It's a piece of doodoo
a simple google search helps a lot, and there's like million of different pc config and some rng so it may be fine for some
Just make a group policy to prevent the 24h2 update
It breaks poe2? Doesnt happen to me.
I mean if I don't know it cause problem how would I know it's windows itself that cause problems instead of other things
Cuz "computer slow" can be tons of different things
Thought some of these issues were fixed months ago? https://youtu.be/rlfTHCzBnnQ?si=dbxoKjiQuAHPsZzf

and don't play Ubishit games lol
Cuz like File Explorer being really slow and crashing sometimes could be other things causing this
Nope
Also the performance update got ported to 23h2 so
No reason to update
Look up POE2 and 24H2 xD
I get them for free :3
Free is a good price for ubisoft games
Lol fair, theyve just fallen off so much in recent years
and im jus talkin shit ;P
Guess Iām too cool for crashes
I'll say things have been getting better internally as of the last month or so according to my brother so hopefully they can crawl out of this mess.
XD
That's good to hear
I guess so
As much as the company's been struggling the last thing i think anyone wants is for tencent to run it
and also my brother losing his job would suck because then i wouldn't get free ubi games from him anymore
Clearly what matters the most here
Me getting to play free videogames
Iām all for Ubisoft getting better leadership and surviving
Nobody wants peopleās livelihoods go down the drain
yo fast question can you pull the switches out fast without breaking it?
With skill? Yes. If you have to ask? Probably not. If you need to pull a lot of switches, take the keyboard apart and push them out instead
y
ty
be like that one cursed dude in this server that pops out the switches like its bubble wrap
Guys i slammed my ducky keyboard and it seems like it went into some type of mode where the keys have some special functions like pressing S saves a file, pressing B makes a bookmark, pressing N opens a new browser window, any idea how to turn it off
https://www.windowslatest.com/2025/01/17/microsoft-begins-auto-updating-pcs-to-windows-11-24h2-forced-download-phase/
this is a joke right
from 23H2 to 24H2 (i havent used my PC in 2 days)
Just setup a group policy...
Takes 5 seconds
Win + r
Gpedit.msc
then you select windows update
There you go @trim crane
You'll stay on 23h2
You'll still get updates but only those related to 23h2
Like security patches
No 24h2
Thanks Dashi
Np :)
im not gonna do this but thanks dashi
Well now you know you can do it if there's a big windows update you want to avoid
For xyz reasons

Why not install the latest update ?
AMD CPU has a 10% performance increase with the latest update
Didn't happened for me
i think my bathroom is killing my routers wifi
without wall
and like 300 with wall lol
any tips?
Eat the wall
run an ethernet cable into the bathroom and mount an access point
my old place the router wqs in the middle of the house, i wish i could do soemthing similar here.
Ayyup what
in the bathroo,
yet at this distance its so poo
Still better than my internet
i get around 200-300 here
my bedroom is even worse
its really annoying because i got this router as i used moonlight a lot but its worse
If they actually do this I'm gonna host another Windows refund day
its not the distance that matters purely. its the stuff inbetween your phone and the router/ap
Windows 11 is not that awful but that's messed up
you have to remember while your router/ap can just pump out wifi signals at some insane power.... your phone cant
like it has the potential to be a good OS but Microsoft to f it up
most of the time its either reinforced walls, wiring or piping in the walls that cause wifi drops
if your house is made of wooden studs and paper covering the air it would work fine
Literally you can just use 23H2 and get the improvements
I kinda like 24h2s changes to the layout of some stuff
The main issue with it is Windows 11 has the same issue every windows release had since ME
It actually doesn't introduce that many features but builds onto an old codebase
When I've switched to 24h2, my 7800x3d gains 200mhz š¤·
Amd chipset driver did that
It's hard to trust in software so disorganised
There was a bug with a previous version of the chipset driver that could result in lower clocks
Prob just got auto updated at the same time
I know but it shouldn't be this worse than my last router
Anyhow the windows improvement shouldn't affect clockspeeds
depends
if the RX gain isnt good enough it can be
That's a chonker have you considered adding an antenna and wall mounting it?
I will when I find the right place
Just testing
Looks tasty
worst thing is i cant even return it
@fair gullAnother thing to note is i would have to have thw wire along the outside because the bathroom is a wetroom
I really wanted to avoid a WAP tbh
nothing flextape cant fix
does your router not have antennas
No
if neither router nor laptop have antennas yeah that could be all thats needed to be quite different once its not in a straight line
Hmm, well, I'll try again putting it in my office because I just faced it a different way and similar speeds
Poop
any linux heads around?
This is really frustrating because currently I use the 2.5gb ports on the other.
sudo rm -rf
I think Dashi, Cal, and Tak.y0n
fucking nerds
Put them in front of windows 8 and theyād cry
ZIP_CMD="7z a -p${ENC_PW} -tzip -mhe=on -m0=copy -mem=AES256 -so"
enc_folder()
{
FOLDERNAME=$1
BACKUPNAME=$2
TEMP=$3
# Setup
cd
mkdir -p $BACKUP_TEMP/$FOLDERNAME
chmod -R 700 $BACKUP_TEMP
# Sync data so changes dont interrupt
rsync --bwlimit=204800 -avz $FOLDERNAME/ $BACKUP_TEMP/$FOLDERNAME/
cd $BACKUP_TEMP
# First we tar to archive all metadata
tar -cvpzf - ./$FOLDERNAME | pv -L 200M > $TEMP
chmod 700 $TEMP
# Now we zip to encrypt
$ZIP_CMD $TEMP | pv -L 200M > $BACKUPNAME
chmod 700 $BACKUPNAME
# Move to the backup folder
mv $BACKUPNAME /$BACKUP_FOLDER/$BACKUPNAME
# Cleanup
cd
rm -rf $BACKUP_TEMP
}
so i have this as part of my bash script to backup server stuff
but for some reason the tar ball fails and "cant be opened as archive" a the end of it
btw this worked before i added pv to limit bandwidth to 200Mib
no first dash in tar
tar cvpzf
huh is that cause i dont give it an output filename?
tar predates dash for optional options
weird worked fine before modifying it
to encrypt
to keep permisions and what not
the zip at the end only encrypts the contents and headers
at least from my testing with restoring from the backups tarballs worked better
mf cant even read comments when they are there and good XD
you mean like a tar.gz lmao
i mean i wish tar offered encryption and header encryption
gunzip supports multiple files
more like that isnt what tar was made for
so as long as i can limit bw usage now itll be perfect
tar is for tape backup
tape systems generally had thier own compression techs
they are better than defalt as they exploit the tape system
hmmm should i gz or let zip compress
so it would be bad to compress before sending to tape
gz and zip are both deflate
they both use deflate so yeah
blazing fast tar moment it seems
spinner disk?
uh no pretty sure its SSD backed
im limiting it to 200Mib with pv cause if i let it go full 1.5gib then some game servers crash
(especially mc hates me writing full speed to the disk)
not using ramdisk for mc is sus
and the man page makes me even more confused on the dash options
oh i see it supports all 3
ok these are speeds with it in my office and me in my bedroom so i will take the temp win
figured it out... forgot to add a K after the variable containing the limit in Kib
so it read it as bytes
powershell is really nice
did massive automated reencoding with it a while ago including auto removal of unwanted subtitles and such
im still contemplating using powershell on my linux server
cause bash sucks
also why not just umask at the top instead of 3 chmods
need to rethink the approach anyway cause rn restoring straight from the backups is a pain as all perms get changed to 700
the issue im trying to avoid is things changing while i tar. so i copy the data first as its way faster and then tar the "snapshot"
use zfs from the start
not an option at this point
but yeah idk if its safe to just copy the folders as they are without changing perms to 700 on the temp backup folder
mainly cause i dont fully understand permissions in linux with folders and such
i mean what is it for?
it backs up important things like nginx configs, certs, mail server, bitwarden vault, game servers and such
well my main issue with understanding perms is if you can list/read/write to subfolders if the parent folder is for example 700
like if i have /a/b/c can i just read/list folder b and file c even if a is 700 and im not the owner
mainly concerns this backup stuff
as i put things into new folders that can contain sensitive data
well there is some freinds who have their own users
yeah well i need to copy it to a temp folder first
and that temp folder is what im mainly worried about
yeah i cleanup
but the whole perms on root of the temp is what i dont fully understand
ye my main issue is the whole can you still access files in the folder if youd know the path somehow
so if i have /temp/something/file and file is 777 but temp is 700 then they cant access file in any way
how can i refund my order??
anybody got latency tests per firmware ver.
Linus and GN going at each other again. Youtubers really are just large kids bickering at each other
Im guessing its about the honey thing
steve said linus swept the honey thing under the rug
and linus is butt hurt about it
Arenāt the only people who lost anything in the honey thing content creators?
Pretty much
anyone with a referal which often is content creators yes

well and that stores ended up dealing with honey so consumers and stores lost out bc its basically fake coupons
Only website i ever saw honey work on was gfuel
yes i drink caffeinated trash don't judge me it's cheaper than monster and i hate coffee
Coffee yummy
I'd literally enable it only when buying gfuel
The biggest creator code you could find was 30% outside of a buy one get one free event and it always managed to find me a 30% code and that's all i really cared about
but yeah gfuel only website where honey ever worked
Wrong opinion Iām afraid
Hot beverages bad
I use to not like coffee but turns out I was just having bad coffee
Because cold drinks are superior
Iced coffee it is
never tried it actually
Id chug iced coffee
I just dislike hot drinks
As a whole
Nesquik powder in cold milk is better than a hot chocolate
Cold choccy best choccy milk
Itās yummy
ever put just the minium amount of milk to dissolve the nesquick power and eat that like pudding
NVIDIA provided me special permission to build the first YouTube build featuring the RTX 5090... I decided to use the SSUPD Meshroom D case making it the most overkill LAN rig ever!

the size vs the 4090 is wild
Does anyone have any experience with lamzu?
Idk what color to get
basic black seems nice
Blue is too dark for me.
White is also nice, but the silver on the camera is too distracting
Black and White are very pretty looking
Are those all vegan leather backs?
Only the blue
Imo I go for black

That black has to be sandpaper or glass
I'm just gonna put a case over it anyway lmao
Probably for the best
Are you getting one as well?
nah
I just wanna try something other than apple or Samsung
I wish oppo did global sales more often, but owning OnePlus it does lookalike stuff
my current phone is my first time using samsung lmao
Which one did you get?
s23 FE, serves me well enough
Oh I forgot to ask do any of those have an ultrasonic sensor?
what's that?
For the finger? OnePlus 13 has a new one
for finger print, yeah
I saw the magic 7 has eye tracking now as well
Lower priced than X 8 Ultra, neat
Anybody remember the tobii eye tracker
S20 Ultra, same
You barely had your 16 for a year tho
I miss android
Also oneplus is nothing special nowadays
Imo
It's just a rebranded oppo
and their software really ain't the best
Like the infamous storage bug
That lasted ages on i don't remember the model
I just wanna try something different
itās always apple and Samsung
Rog phone? You said you liked mobile gaming
And i'd be an actual different experience
From the regular phone stuff
The update support isnāt too good on them
Same applies to any company that's not google apple or samsung
I bed now
Night
have fun sleeping
I wish Samsung allowed recording of calls over here... š¦
Interesting, PS6 might be a 2027 product with UDNA. Zen 6 will be on N2 at least partially
Is it possible to unbind a key but still have custom keybinds for it or just like not make the key respond?
I have removed most of the keys from my numpad other than the numbers themselves cuz I wanna try some keybinds
But I assume it doesn't work since they're unbound?
uhhh I don't really understand what it is you want to do
Like these keys. I disabled them because I don't use their normal functions, but I still wanna be able to bind them into something else
Is there any way to do that?
Or do they need their standard function
Just rebind them to something else it overrides whatever it was binded to previously it doesn't do both simultaneously
yeah you unbound them
but.. you want them bound
so bind them to what you want em to do
Kliksphilip is back with.. his new weird style
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkj1otEe6OA
It isn't $200. It isn't a hero. But it IS a decent all-round budget card with no MAJOR and IRREPAIRABLE issues. So it deserves the award. Begrudgingly.
0:00 - Why a hero?
1:42 - VRAM
2:43 - Other wins
3:05 - Cat
4:11 - Downsides
4:51 - Competition
6:19 - Seen this performance before
7:09 - Should you spend more?
It looks like a good card tbf
weird because hes not doing goofy stuff but petting a cat for over 50% of the video?
His style has always been a bit goofy but at least normal
Kinda recently he's been doing this weird homeless psycho thing
And that's also kind of intruded onto his CS content on 3kliks channel where people also noticed it's been.. different
maybe we just watched different videos
I like the dude, fartmaster excluded, but Philip is.. different
ok so i finished the video and i must have missed the psycho homeless part
Can confirm saw cat š
I would never have clicked on it if I didn't know there was a cat
I was not disappointed and have shared it, because of the cat
The original thumbnail was far weirder lol, hence the psycho part
