ocean jackal
#

ok wish me luck

#

@crimson wigeon I plugged the usb in it didn’t do anything is there something im meant to click?

crimson wigeon
#

Give the new machine the re-boot, if that don't work check the boot menu. It should show there!

ocean jackal
#

Where is the boot menu

crimson wigeon
#

First screen when you enter UEFI setup in EZ mode it should be there, bottom right corner

ocean jackal
#

It worked!

#

@crimson wigeon it said my pc doesn’t support the minimum requirements

crimson wigeon
#

Do you get any more information than that?

ocean jackal
#

I get a website

crimson wigeon
#

Very helpful. Did you choose the UEFI option in the boot menu?

crimson wigeon
#

Exactly that, you might have had 2 options for your flash drive, one with UEFI and one without

crimson wigeon
#

What did you have then?

ocean jackal
crimson wigeon
#

??? I meant in the boot menu on your new computer

ocean jackal
#

let me close the menu and see

#

Restarting installation process

#

The first option I get for installing windows is install windows 11 or repair my pc

crimson wigeon
#

Fine. Try repairing then

ocean jackal
crimson wigeon
#

Startup repair

ocean jackal
#

ok

#

It did that within 2 seconds of loading it

crimson wigeon
#

Right then it's hopeless, go back to UEFI setup

ocean jackal
crimson wigeon
#

You literally were there in your earlier pics

ocean jackal
#

Oh yeah

#

is the storage unhappy Becuase it’s from an old Lenovo

crimson wigeon
#

Now find "CSM" (compatibility support module or such) and make sure it's DISABLED

ocean jackal
#

ok

crimson wigeon
#

For sanity, re-enable secure boot too

ocean jackal
#

It SIAD I needed to restart it view settings

#

And booted me back to bios

#

Said*

crimson wigeon
#

Good so did you also re-enable secure boot?

ocean jackal
crimson wigeon
#

The same way you found out it was set to custom

ocean jackal
#

I set to standard

crimson wigeon
#

Good now save and re-boot and check the boot menu again

ocean jackal
#

I forgot to save settings

#

b

#

Is it fine if it’s off

crimson wigeon
#

What is off?

ocean jackal
#

Secure boot

#

I forgot to save bios settings

crimson wigeon
#

It might be but turn it on just to be sure you take the right path for now

ocean jackal
#

Ok I enabled

crimson wigeon
#

Now, what does the boot menu look like?

ocean jackal
#

I’m loading

#

It says restart

#

Becuase it booted me into bios

crimson wigeon
#

What?

ocean jackal
#

Every time I click restart

#

It boots me into bios

crimson wigeon
#

That is exactly what that button does

ocean jackal
crimson wigeon
#

It goes to that screen immediately? Then just back out..

loud stratus
#

apologies for barging in, what are you guys trying to do?

crimson wigeon
#

Turn off the computer

#

Turn it on.

#

WHAT DO YOU SEE?

ocean jackal
ocean jackal
crimson wigeon
#

Right so it autobooted to that, neat. Does it still complain about not meeting system requirements?

loud stratus
#

Okay so you're trying to use an old drive with Windows on a new pc? And it's not showing as a bootable drive in your BIOS?

loud stratus
#

The old drive might have an MBR installation, new drive might only work with EFI booting (according to what I'm reading);

You can try to convert the drive with mbr2gpt ( https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/deployment/mbr-to-gpt )

Use MBR2GPT.EXE to convert a disk from the Master Boot Record (MBR) to the GUID Partition Table (GPT) partition style without modifying or deleting data on the disk.

ocean jackal
#

b

crimson wigeon
#

It was a 2 year old Lenovo prebuilt, no shot is it MBR since Microsoft mandates all computers shipping with Windows 8 and up use UEFI

ocean jackal
#

Ok good I dint wanna do more

#

Didnt*

crimson wigeon
#

Show the CSM settings. Also make sure in advanced -> trusted computing security device support is enabled, and in AMD fTPM that firmware TPM is enabled. And that secure boot OS type is set to Windows UEFI mode

ocean jackal
#

Is this all good?

crimson wigeon
#

Sure

ocean jackal
#

Where is secure boot OS

crimson wigeon
#

In boot -> secure boot

ocean jackal
#

It was on other OS

#

Should that fix it?

crimson wigeon
#

Might

ocean jackal
#

Ok

#

I’m going to boot

crimson wigeon
#

You did not show CSM

ocean jackal
#

Where is CSM

crimson wigeon
#

Also in boot

#

You also probably forgot to check trusted computing with how forgetful you are

ocean jackal
crimson wigeon
#

Good, it shows as UEFI too

ocean jackal
#

Am I good to boot?

crimson wigeon
#

Try it

ocean jackal
#

Doesn’t meet requirements

crimson wigeon
#

Then it's something else, what kind of computer did you build?

ocean jackal
#

Is there something im forgetting?

#

also the storage on the Lenovo is 1tb

#

850watt psu

#

Amd Ryzen 9 9900x

crimson wigeon
#

Go to command prompt (somewhere in recovery options)
do..

ocean jackal
crimson wigeon
#

ocean jackal
crimson wigeon
#

Do...

list part

ocean jackal

#

Type it in

ocean jackal

ocean jackal

Then do...
C:

ocean jackal
#

so I type C: dir

#

Or C: first

crimson wigeon
#

In the order I typed

#

If I wanted you to do C: dir I would say C: dir

ocean jackal
#

It just displays all my
Files

crimson wigeon
#

Cool, unfortunately I don't see a EFI system partition (Lenovo...............) so this might not work but do bcdboot C:\windows
What do you see?

ocean jackal
#

let me type

crimson wigeon
#

Makes sense, Lenovo be Lenovo. It might not be easy to boot that existing OS..
As for why it's not meeting system requirements I have no effing idea, so good luck figuring that out I'm done

#

I would say install Linux but that would be cruel to you

ocean jackal
analog sinew
#

yeah

#

a crunchy old hdd is bad on that pc anyway

#

get a nice m2 ssd and boom

crimson wigeon
#

Would a 2022 prebuilt really have the system drive be spinning rust? Are they still that evil?

ocean jackal
crimson wigeon
#

Well what does the drive look like?

analog sinew
#

but idk maybe i found sth wrong

crimson wigeon
#

Oh... oh no...

ocean jackal
crimson wigeon
#

But also they claim the old computor came with Windows 11 so it can't really be that old

#

And I don't think it checks for solid state-ness

ocean jackal
crimson wigeon
#

Sigh

#

But yeah get a proper SSD! Spinning rust is not what anyone should have to use for their OS drive in current year (or really ever since SSDs became affordable)

Disable NKRO and use 6KRO. Allows the keyboard to be compatible with devices such as PS4.

ashen spindle

Baseline the keyboard is not sold as Console Compatible out of box. We do not state this anywhere, because that is not true. Neither Sony or Microsoft would ever allow USB devices to communicate with the browser, because that would be a MASSIVE security risk.

So I had a look at the arm Gigadevice GD32F425RGT6 that's being used in the wooting 80he
Only to realize the specified ARM has up to 51 I/O ports.
Is there something I don't get here or would that mean some keys of the keyboard need an sort of extension where it translates a number of key inputs into a single ports ( Aka possibly some keys has more input delay than most?) Can anyone with more expertise make any sense of this?

reef patrol
#

Multiplexers?

mystic relic
# reef patrol Multiplexers?

Possibly yeah, it would be interesting to know what keys have been chosen, and how much of delay it has compared to the rest of the keys

reef patrol

mystic relic
analog sinew
#

shouldnt all keys be on multiplexers

mystic relic
#

But then I'd assume lots of the IO ports are unused then?

Because I'd be interested in knowing if it has any significant delay, as we know lots of keyboards have very different input delays, some even close to 81 ish

First gaming monitor with 750 Hz refresh rate announced A company called KOORUI will showcase the new monitor at CES 2025 next week.  It seems today is the day for CES monitor announcements. ASUS and MSI have introduced their first 27-inch QD-OLED monitors with a 240Hz refresh rate, addressing gaps in their portfolios and meeting […]

#

At this point I think we are right around the corner for buyable 1 000 Hz displays

marsh pewter
#

also, do you really want to be powering your monitor with a computer PSU?

distant tapir
rough osprey
#

when ow removing frame cap...

nova lichen
#

in any case, more efficient methods of handling power consumption will come with time

nova lichen
distant tapir
nova lichen
#

why?

distant tapir
#

Where you can play at half of the screen's refresh rate with the other 50% of frames being black

distant tapir
nova lichen
#

OLED needs that due to the fact that there isnt a backlight

distant tapir
distant tapir
#

Which is what monitors need

#

You can get 300+ Hz of motion clarity on a CX at 120 Hz with it on

#

Like 360 Hz or something

nova lichen
#

if you mean rolling scan in the sense of how CRTs do it? thats quite neat

distant tapir
#

How much does it increase latency on a 480 Hz screen though?

nova lichen
#

albeit still seems massively inferior to whats possible with a backlight considering persistence of 300+ vs lcd 1000+

distant tapir
#

A 480 Hz oled Rtings tested has 7,9 ms input latency with BFI

nova lichen
distant tapir
nova lichen
#

6.2ms difference

distant tapir
#

And doesn't have to do any lowering of refresh rate nonsense

nova lichen
#

even in an isolated scenario thats perceivable to the average user

distant tapir
#

So a 120 Hz LG CX can at 120 Hz use rolling-scan BFI to get over 300 Hz of motion clarity

nova lichen
#

let alone factoring in mouse, keyboard, framerate, jitter mistiming, processing delay, utilization delay so on so forth

distant tapir
nova lichen
#

thats quite impressive on the C1s part

#

blurbusters did recently release something for rolling scan actually

distant tapir
#

The best LCDs seem to not get extra input latency from strobing

nova lichen
#

Who Is this for? CRT Enthusiasts, software & hardware developers, emulator authors, all of who wish to reduce display motion blur of 60 years of legacy 60fps 60Hz content with softer flicker than BFI. UPDATE 2024/12/24: It just got added to Retroarch emulator on github quickly, the same day we released this! The next public

distant tapir
nova lichen
#

pg258qp isnt bfi

#

thats a mistype from rtings

#

its strobing

distant tapir
#

Backlight strobing at 500Hz has 0.5ms more input lag when overclocking is turned off. Apart from this, even when using different aspect ratios or turning on overclocking or backlight strobing, there are no noticeable differences in input lag.

distant tapir
#

I'd love an oled monitor with rolling scan BFI built-in with the help of him or whatever

nova lichen
#

absolutely

nova lichen
#

like they measure luminance from the previous refresh, and changing refresh rate can impact this

nova lichen
distant tapir
#

The decreasing refresh rate point will be fixed once they implement real high effort BFI again like CX had

#

No idea what the added latency the BFI on that had though

nova lichen
#

changing PWM could throw this off

#

even though PWM on a backlight shouldnt introduce any computational overhead

distant tapir
#

Okay CX does not have great input latency but that could definitely be improved

nova lichen
#

theres also the case of asus and processing lag being weird at different refresh rates, such as the vg258qm (my current monitor) having pretty horrid delay below the max refresh rate

nova lichen
#

so the room to optimize this is much greater id wager

distant tapir
#

LG C1 at 120 Hz without BFI:

#

(I know this is their old inferior test but the display is a few years old now)

nova lichen
#

distant tapir
#

C1 has ever so slightly weaker BFI than CX but slightly higher brightness as a result

Well tbf they were TVs. The amount of people using them were definitely minimal

distant tapir

#

It’s an IPS panel

distant tapir

Oh so it's backlight strobing then

#

They strobe the backlight to lower persistence (meaning for how long a frame is shown) to increase motion clarity

autumn summit

That’s nice

nova lichen
#

ulmb on vs off on vg258qm, hidden od mode 6 (inbetween 3 and 4)

distant tapir

It can have several benefits and drawbacks

autumn summit
#

Is G Sync only available through using DisplayPort?

distant tapir
#

A notable benefit of strobing with LCDs is that it can cover up response times

#

I'll find what Mark said

That's not a strobing optimised monitor though

#

Our news is that the GeForce RTX 5090 will use a 14-layer PCB and will also import the PCIe 5.0 specification and UHBR20’s DisplayPort 2.1a.

#

I think the leaked PCB of the 90 is actually PCIe5 based on some distinct markings or something like that

fair gull

i thinkits mainly assumed given the age of the 2.1a dp spec

cursive summit
#

Isn't it.. not that old?

#

In spec age havo

#

Like, 5090 is PCIe 5 and PCIe 7 spec has been out for a good half a year already

#

Ah that was a draft, but it'll be available in 2025

#

Tbf I don't see why there's just always new specs, what can you even do with 2.1a that you can't do with DP2.0

fair gull
#

its the fact that the 4090 also just uses 1.4a

#

iirc theres no geforce gpu with anything newer than 1.4a dp

#

and 2.1a vs 2.0 is mainly about cable certification stuff

#

id at least want 2.1 though as there was some revisions to better support usb4

although seeing the spec they removed the usb-c port some time ago so 2.0 would be good enough but 2.1a would be nice

They're not litigious. The suit against the government was to get documents they were legally entiteld to.

thats what i want

cursive summit

tending or too ready to take legal action to settle disputes.

#

They are.. quite litigious

rough osprey
#

im suing LegalEagle

reef patrol
#

What are you basing this off?

cursive summit
fair gull
#

all i see is maybe finally some laws around this kinda stuff

ashen spindle
#

He’s not very litigious, litigious are magazines like tmz if you try to take away some source or something

cursive summit
cursive summit
#

That's litigious by defitinion, I think

#

Not bad, evil litigious, but litigious

reef patrol
#

Wait - A law firm that has lawsuits ongoing? HOW - DARE

ashen spindle
#

He’s a lawyer, litigious doesn’t mean doing your job as a lawyer

umbral heron

#

Litigious doesn't mean what you seem to think it does.

cursive summit
#

I gave you the definition, duck, and mr. Stone fits that definition, whatever negative image that word usually paints

#

I didn't call him evil either, he's just litigious

umbral heron
#

3 lawsuits and few information act requests in last 5 years hanaSusSips

cursive summit
#

That's 3 lawsuits and few information act requests more than 99.9999% of people file every 5 years dogekek

fair gull
#

so by that definition anyone who ever sued anyone is litigeous

ashen spindle
#

That’s not even close to fitting the term litigious

umbral heron
#

I'd guess information requests are pretty common, especially when it comes to businesses hanaconfuse

cursive summit
#

And lawyers don't even need to be filing lawsuits, some specialize in defence

#

Criminal law as well

fair gull
#

thats not litigeous

#

thats just doing your job

ashen spindle
#

Defense lawyers still fine counterclaims and such too?

#

Which is the same as suing

cursive summit
#

Considering LegalEagle pokes his nose in U.S politics where he doesn't really need to poke his nose in, and now is suing Honey as part of some class action "we the people, side with youtubers" lawsuit, he comes across as litigious

#

And don't get me wrong, I like him. He's entertaining, but he doesn't need to sue anyone, I like him as an informational, educational source

fair gull
#

imo in this case he does. he knows law, he has the funds.

ashen spindle
#

It’s everyone’s business to poke their nose into their countries politics

fair gull
#

also that

cursive summit
#

Fair enough lads, we are just arguing semantics

#

I think he's litigious by definition, you don't, that's all fine and dandy

fair gull
#

if you dont poke your nose into your countries politics you have no right to complain if it goes down south

ashen spindle
#

And honey literally target his group, YouTube content creators the most since he also has affiliate links

#

So it’s even in his own interest and not just for the sake of doing this lawsuit

cursive summit
#

Tbf with the Honey lawsuit I think I remember multiple videos he was sponsored by Honey in

#

I don't know if he lost anything, maybe they stole his Nebula money from advertising

#

But I guess he has some kind of vested interest in it, fair enough

ashen spindle
#

If that’s the case it’s even less of a case of being litigious if he gots hurt/scammed by it lol

umbral heron
#

And to be honest he's not suing Honey per se, Wendover is
He is one of the lawyers representing them

cursive summit
#

I just don't particularly get his multiple U.S gov lawsuits, it's just like.. what, why

#

Why do you care what Trump or whatever the other guy, Epstein or Weinstein? Does

ashen spindle
#

If you sue a company that dealt in bad faith with yours that’s not litigious what you should do lol

#

Because he is a US lawyer and if your content is to explain legal stuff to a boarder audience those are some of the most important cases ever??????

cursive summit
#

Bad faith isn't illegal though, Honey is very much a weird grey zone where they can argue it's just some law circumvention with a loophole

fair gull
#

wasnt trump also found guilty on multiple charges just before becoming president again

umbral heron
ashen spindle
#

Wow sounds like something a court should decide then if it’s not clear duck_sip

umbral heron
ashen spindle
#

Almost like that’s the entire purpose for civil lawsuits when three isn’t criminal charges pending

What is here a lawyer
