Tech companies try to have decent naming schemes challenge (impossible!!)

cursive summit

I dunno why people bought the 1660Ti over 2060

#

They launched.. at the same time did they not?

reef patrol
#

Because it was in stock -and was noticeably cheaper.

cursive summit
#

Not by much over MSRP though, like 50$

reef patrol
#

And was gone before you knew it, leaving only 1660.

cursive summit
#

Ah it's $279 over 349$, there's meaningful difference there I guess

cursive summit

Tbf Nvidia could still do that?

#

Release GTX models that are cheaper with no RT cores and maybe GDDR6 instead of GDDR7

Tbf how much is an RT core even worth

That was RDNA1 era right?

and priced gouged the fuck out of them

reef patrol
#

The 2080 was just barely cheap enough (without VAT) that I could get my review site to sign off on buying it for me as an alternative to actual wages. Before that I only ever had low to mid end cards.

they have to price them low or nobody would care

rough osprey

why

ashen spindle
#

neither amd nor intel will make cheap cards because they want money themselves

if they make similar <300 cards it will be because its cheap for them to make them not because they want to be nice

cedar fog
#

nah I'm pretty sure they make these things out of rocks

#

you're just falling for their scam

one can hope Intel stays on the buying people into their ecosystem train for one more gen

I also have 4 OG Xbox'es in total. A crystal, my OG, a spare I got in a trade and one I dumpster dived that is dead (but has plastic pieces and such I could use as parts)

Honestly, kinda fascinating

#

Puzzles that are "easy for humans" that are used to rate artificial intelligence's capabilities and reasoning

#

Some of em are very deceptive

#

Like this one

#

It took me like 15 seconds to get the rule, but AI kinda got shafted, cause the Test given to it does not have reference material as to what happens when other colors intercross

#

Tbf even I'm thinking is it supposed to still account to the theoretical area or does the intercrossing cut it and isn't counted

tame thicket
#

you talking oh 3 sweet

fair gull
#

id say at least 2 more samples showing that rectangles touching the lines between blue pixels also need to count

#

i literally couldnt figure out how the ground truth was true but o3's first response was wrong

cursive summit
#

Tbf it was never given more than 2 lines, so it had to extrapolate 5

#

Though why are you thinking its first response is wrong?

fair gull
#

because those images are all of failed tests

cursive summit
#

Well yeah but ground truth tbf imo, is wrong cause the very top square should not have lit up, it's not intersecting with the blue line

fair gull
#

thats the issue

#

the ai got marked wrong despite never being taught a rule

cursive summit
#

I agree with AI there

#

Which is funny

#

AI is only as good as its training data and instructions, and it wasn't given enough data, nor were the instructions clear enough here cause it wasn't given any and had to extrapolate from the little data it was given

fair gull
#

ye it was a rule completely unknown to anyone and id bet most humans given the 3 inputs would also solve it wrong

cursive summit
#

Tbf I also kinda understand why it tried to draw lines on the outer perimeter

#

But I doubt a human would do that?

#

It kinda understood the rule, but very literally

fair gull
#

idk it crossed my mind but i also noticed that all lines drawn cross the entire range from top/bottom and left/right

cursive summit
#

Tbf none of its training data had more than 1 dot on each axis so yeah

#

Again, fault with the data there

fair gull
#

id say you could take a guess as to drawn lines always need to be length X

#

but yeah the data could have been more clear

cursive summit
#

I still find this stuff fascinating

fair gull
#

i wonder if o3 could have told why it failed the test and also reasoned as to if the input data was sufficient to deduce the rules

cursive summit
#

( also to figure out if I'm dumb or not and can actually understand what the rule is from what's supposedly really easy )

#

proper warren
# ashen spindle Yeah it’s misses lots of things like TCO, failure rate or that rocm is focused o...

Equally though, not focussing enough on the software side is a problem with AMD in both consumer and enterprise.

Bugs being a common one, some still existing since release in Adrenaline edition. AMD's TPM chips still causes issues with device provisioning tools like Autopilot and just generally failing to provide attestation. But also some other general stuff like AMD APUs not supporting graphics virtualisation.

None of them are massive things, just stuff I've come across in my work, but they're just annoying when a competitor just works. Which is why imo AMD is failing to make inroads into the laptop space despite Intel struggling, and why the uptake of AMD hardware in enterprise settings isn't what you would expect.

ashen spindle
#

Those things aren’t really related just because they are all software

#

They are very much focusing on the software side and rocm has made massive progress, the fact it’s not on consumers is because that’s lower priority to get working

And this is the lower tier card I presume, below 9080XT?

#

Could be an interesting card if it brings value and efficiency to the table, at the very most 500$ and maybe 150W?

crimson wigeon
#

That naming though whyyyyyy is it to be more like the competition (so more confusion)

cursive summit
#

Tbf GRE is 260 W by AMD's measurements so.. I hope 200W is doable for them

#

I can already buy a GRE for 540 right now, so unless it's 500 I don't see the point

#

I see no reason FSR 4 wouldn't also launch on RDNA3 cards, they have all the same tech of RDNA4

I dunno, I am slowly realizing RDNA4 might not be as good of an offer as I hope it might be

#

@ashen spindle Chances AMD combines FSR2 and FSR3 together?

They are already doing that technically with HYPER-RX, and AFMF2 is a "works on everything" type of tech

If AMD just claims that it "looks like native and gives you 100% more FPS" then idk, could be an interesting tech?

Chances of them to combine E = mc² + AI?

ashen spindle

That’s just how shit already gets marketed? Upscaling and frame gen at once

cursive summit

Yeah but AMD prolly will just combo them into FSR4

#

Meh, we'll see

ashen spindle
#

Wouldn’t make sense because it’s different stuff and not everyone wants both at the same time

cursive summit
#

I think it does make sense if AMD markets it as "as good as normal picture, except 2x faster"

#

With upscaling, it's not impossible to get an image as good as native especially with some machine prediction and sharpening added, as well as perf gains

#

Slap on frame gen on top with some neural prediction, however DLSS3 works, and it's "just as good as vanilla, except 100% faster"

8700xt for 400$ maybe 450$
8600,8600XT 300$-350$

#

kinda my take on AMD GPU prices

why would you look at random resolution pictures

just look at the die size if you are already on techpowerup

cursive summit
#

I remember looking at those die shots like year ago and went to find those instead if they are 1:1 scale

ashen spindle
#

yes dont blindly trust but just look at multiple and its likely accurate enough

#

also die size is the more easily correct ones since thats something someone needs to manually find out

steady sail
#

4090 609 mm²
3090 Ti 628 mm²
7900 GRE 529 mm²
7900XTX 529 mm²

ashen spindle

also keep in mind MCD dies are on older notes so less dense, if you would normalize it for one node they would be even smaller

also 2080ti was almost reticle size with like 750mm²

sram scaling is still not completely 0 so in the hypothetical where you look at just die sitze it would be a bit smaller

Can somebody recommend me a good headset

#

With very good audio in a budget of 200 dollars

cursive summit
#

Audeze Maxwell is sadly not within that price range

#

Eh, Sennheiser Momentum 4 is pretty okay for wireless

#

I'd always suggest just buying a good set of cans and a microphone separately, you can get K702s for like 130 and then a decent mic for like idk 20$, I think that's how much that yeti mic that is popular costs

#

For audio quality, you will want to go with "normal" headphones with decent sized dynamic drivers or planars probably

#

Isn't the Edition XS nowadays like 200$?

#

If you can cop the XS, that's like near end-game headphones

gusty nexus
cursive summit

I don't see why they'd mention audio quality then, and yes I use dynamic drivers, and planars typically provide a better sound experience

#

If you want audio quality there's a few open back dynamics that have great everything, not so much closed back

#

And planars just give audio quality regardless

#

For less than 200$, I'd maximize audio quality (as they asked for) with a planar, hence Edition XS

#

people keep saying its the sensitivity and im very confused

mild dome
#

DPI is usually used to measure how fast the cursor moves in relation to the mouse's physical movement
So more DPI = faster cursor

If you are using a cheap mouse, or an uneven mousematt this could cause skipping either because the polling rate (how often the mouse updates the on its movement), sensor has a low resolution, or the an uneven surface preventing accurate reporting.

For FPS games it's often best to make the cursor movement as slow as possible as to allow highly precise movements (as in, small mouse movements means the cursor moves a tiny amount)

#

For reference the best players tend to use between 400-800 for the precision

gusty kiln
#

funny how everyone is so fixated on 4K/8K polling while some of the best players in the world can't even saturate it.

rain jewel

Hi everyone, I just got a Wooting 60HE+ keyboard, and it worked fine when I first plugged it in. However, after attempting a firmware update, the RGB turned off, and the keyboard became unresponsive. I tried following the reset steps in Wootility (holding the top-right and bottom-right keys while plugging it in), but it didn’t fix the issue. The update process showed an error: "Timed out waiting for a response from the device." And also says the issue is unknown. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks in advance!

digital cliff
# rain jewel it confuses me why its such a big fuss when you can just do it in cursor setting...

because what the other person said is almost disinformation, DPI is not "sensitivity" but rather how many distinct movements/points the sensor can track in a given amount of travel

so 400 dots per inch means the smallest movement it can track is 1/400th of an inch

that's why you see that snapping in your video, if you turned the DPI up and sensitivity in-game lower to keep the relative "speed" of the cursor the same, you will find it can track smaller and smaller movements

sonic oyster
digital cliff
#

say the mouse was able to read 8000 dpi, then the smallest movement it can translate is 1/8000th of an inch, a much smaller distance than 1/400th, making it more precise and less "snappy" in those smaller movements

Blurbusters just posted this:

CRT beam simulation in real time! (For retro enthusiasts)

The above are actual screenshots of the individual shader frames, not a video!!! When run in realtime, it looks low-blur like a CRT tube, especially at large native:emulated Hz ratios (e.g. 240-480Hz for 60fps content). More native:emulated inHz:outHz ratio the merrier for improved beam simulation realism, though!

The algorithm is being released tomorrow for any software developer to implement (BFI engines or display firmwares, or emulators like RetroArch, or processors like Retrotink, etc). Looks better than plain BFI as long as the display ABL/gamma/FALD sheningians doesn't interfere.

that's gonna get thrown out immediately, clicking an additional button to cancel is hardly "overly complicated"

#

you have an entire month to click one additional button
