If you said you are planning to kill someone, that's a terroristic threat

So, just think about it, don't say it

Ok guys what's the best way to commit murder and get away with it

cursive summit

"Wait, wdym terroristic threat, they didn't want to blow anything up" -> Reads up -> "Ah, I see"

cursive summit

In U.S

unkempt lake
#

There's a death threat and a terroristic threat

#

2 different things

cursive summit
#

Terroristic threat is essentially the voicing of a threat of causing bodily harm with the intent to carry out the threat

#

Claiming to want to murder somebody will prolly get filed under terroristic threat

lyric hatch
#

"A terroristic threat is a serious act that involves threatening to commit a crime with the intent to: Intimidate or coerce a civilian population, Influence government policy, Affect government conduct, and Cause a reasonable fear of the crime being committed."

AMD Ryzen AI Max makes debut The first AI Max processor has been spotted.  The Strix Halo is real and has just been spotted on Geekbench. #

Damn imagine, a device that plays all of your games at QHD with high graphics that you can just pick up into your palm and just slot into a pocket or backpack

#

Good times...

#

Not necessarily

#

Obviously that directly relates to cooling, the more watts you do, the more perf you get, however laptops already have 120W GPUs and can cool them just fine

#

Iirc a full size RTX 4060 is like 100 something watts?

#

You can cool that with some strong fans in a small box

#

I never said handheld

#

I specifically am talking about NUCs

#

Those can be a lot more lenient in their dimensions and still fit in your backpack

#

I don't particularly care about handhelds lol, I fascinate about NUCs

#

You can have a palm width NUC that is the height of your foot, and that will be easily enough to fit a strong cooling system that will be extremely compact, very portable and very strong

#

120W it'll cool easily

#

Yeah, and CrowdStrike is cybersecurity focused
Rito and other companies are just game developers/publishers

nimble arch
#

Well, they're updating Vanguard to no longer run from boot on W11 24H2

#

Assuming you have all the security stuff enabled correctly

ashen spindle
#

Microsoft is working on moving things out side of the kernel it’s just a question of when

nimble arch
#

They've also said they're not breaking kernel-level access

steady sail
#

With windows 15 the last windows dogekek

umbral heron
nimble arch
#

Because they simply can't block everything from having kernel-level access due to a settlement made with the EU

ashen spindle
nimble arch
#

It's not an issue on macOS because Apple never provided kernel-level access to begin with.

ashen spindle
#

They can’t block it but they seem to move it to something like eBPF on Linux

nimble arch
#

Sucks for Linux gaming though as every game that moves to something like Vanguard or EAAC just doesn't run under Proton at all.

crimson wigeon
#

macOS has kernel extensions though, although Apple says pls don't use them, will probably be removed entirely soon

nimble arch
#

EA's in-house anti-cheat has slowly been backported into more of their library plus has some of the same platform security requirements when running under Windows 11.

umbral heron
#

Well, should Windows move to eBPF, then adapting Linux and Proton for anti-cheats would be not-that-hard-and-time-consuming

nimble arch
#

I don't think many publishers are currently interested in actually supporting their anti-cheat solutions for Linux

#

Epic have never done it. EA have been porting EAAC into more games and they've also disabled Apex/EAC running under Proton/WINE. Rockstar added BattlEye to GTA5 and broke online for Linux.

umbral heron
fair gull
nimble arch
#

I feel like we're entering a phase of anti-cheats getting better at the cost of Proton/WINE support.

crimson wigeon
#

Yes hence the bit in my message after the comma

fair gull
#

im not sure about the removal thing

nimble arch
#

Which sucks because Linux gaming has gotten really good and we're almost there with HDR support etc

crimson wigeon
#

Easy, just drop those games, a lot of them mostly just exist to make you miserable tbh

umbral heron
#

Respawn made Linux basically a scapegoat for cheating problem, it's just as bad as it used to be
And Rockstar didn't solve cheating problem at all, modders are still all over the place, all BattlEye allows them to do is to detect who may have cheated and ban them, so cheaters will be forced to buy a new copy

nimble arch
#

Public lobbies are a lot better in GTA Online though

#

BattlEye has done a good enough job

fair gull
#

lol no

steady sail
#

Nah dogekek

nimble arch
#

Some of it is just fundamentally bad game design in how the P2P game sessions work though

#

There's way too much trust in the game clients kekW

#

Also R* print money with that game, why can't they just provide dedicated servers

fair gull
#

because theyd print less money

crimson wigeon
#

That would require effort

#

We'll see how it is in the next one, will probably still be janky P2P

fair gull
#

id guess so

#

i dont see why theyd change smth that "works" for them

umbral heron
#

And most of the playerbase don't really care hanaSit

ashen spindle
#

Respawn made Linux a scapegoat but sadly there are quite a lot of cases where you can just go to common hacking boards and the first posts are pinned messages on how to run Linux or VMs and abuse it to disable AC

umbral heron
#

Sure, it was a marginally easier method to execute and way easier to maintain after all
VM detection would be enough, you can do that on Linux too

ashen spindle
#

It’s not about VM detection if you ran it just in Linux you still had it wayyyy easier to hack in apex

#

Simply due to the way proton handled certain things

umbral heron
#

Either way, moving cheat detection out of client-side would be ideal
Or game creating its own, VM-like, secure environment to run in
We can run VMs with near-native performance nowadays

ashen spindle
#

True but the much cheaper and easier solution is block a fraction of players that had a insanely disproportionate amount of cheaters

#

And you can’t really have skill issues as easily when you block something vs doing something advanced just for that to cost more and still fail

umbral heron
#

Thankfully they removed support just about when game started to become really crap KEKW

#

It shows that core Respawn team is long gone, and EA just wants to milk it until it dies

#

Although kinda funny
Respawn founders ran away from Activision because they were tired of AV's greed
And they went to EA of all other companies KEKW

ashen spindle
#

Unfortunately it does in this case promote the view Linux is mostly used by cheaters

umbral heron
#

One game goes, one comes neuroShrug
NetEase released update for NEAC to make sure that Marvel Rivals and all their other games will work on Linux
Delta Force team said they actively work on Linux support too

modern sky
#

linux has nothing to do with it

ashen spindle
#

That’s just not the case especially for apex

modern sky
#

the only way I could see for linux users to get a good anticheat support is for them to willingly install closed source tracking, so hwid bans are possible

#

unironically the lack of tracking is whats the downfall of Linux for gaming since you need at least some to enforce fair play rules

umbral heron
#

Could be open source with necessary authentication and verification if it's been modified duck_bopping

ashen spindle
#

It’s not related to hwid at all it was a big thing for apex because the way proton translates certain calls from the anti cheat made it much easier or even possible in the first place to avoid certain checks

modern sky
ashen spindle
#

If you read what you replied to I am saying unfortunately because in this case it’s simply the truth that the amount of cheaters on Linux was disproportionally higher

modern sky
#

do you have any idea how easy it is to install it in the first place ?

ashen spindle
#

What, apex cheats?

modern sky
#

no, linux itself

ashen spindle
#

Im talking about this case not every game

umbral heron
#

Well sure
May be same amount of cheaters on Linux and Windows, but proportions are way off HanaNodders

ashen spindle
#

Very specifically apex

modern sky
#

so yeah im here with you on this one

ashen spindle
#

Big amount of cheats that were free only worked on Linux for apex and windows usually only had paid cheats that did less

modern sky
#

on one hand "why would players fix devs mistakes" on the other hand thats what proton was all about from the start

ashen spindle
#

Well they didn’t and it’s been a loooong standing issue

modern sky
#

I wonder how many of those cheats have viruses designed to attack clear installs like evilgnome

ashen spindle
#

And if respawn don’t have the skill to fix it in the first place the best bandaid sadly is stop <5% of the playerbase when that includes >40% of cheats

modern sky
#

tbh

#

its kinda on Linux users to play mp games with agressive anti cheats to begin with

#

its not 2015, we have nvmes

#

re booting into windows takes like 20 seconds

umbral heron
#

Respawn and fix KEKW
Both Titanfalls were unplayable for years because they didn't bother to fix hackers on multiplayer issue

Hehe bit of an issue, I accidentally spilled some Monster on my 60HE+ today, I took the keycaps off and quickly cleaned everything but some got into the case, I then couple of hours later noticed that my tab is working weird, its as if my alt was pressed down and when I pressed alt playing CS I alt tabbed, then I took the entire case and pcb and everything apart and dried everything, the previous problem got solved but now theres a new problem.. my L-Alt doesn't work even when I am trying another switch on it, like it doesn't detect a click at all when I check it on the website.

I am not really a keyboard tech guy so I don't know how bad this is, is anyone able to say if I am completely fucked or is there a way to get it fixed?
