You can play at 8gb you just gotta keep your expectations reasonable

rain quiver
#

I was gonna buy it but my pc cant run it all that good so ill pass

cursive summit
#

You don't?

rain quiver
#

Thats what the games recommend specs are tho

cursive summit
#

7800XT gets 70+ at QHD raytracing lol

rain quiver
#

4090 for 4k ultra 60 fps

#

And 4080 for 1440p ultra 60 fps

cursive summit
#

What the fuck are you talking about jan

unkempt lake
#

He's talking about the pathtracing mode

#

Lmao

#

You don't have to turn on pathtracing...

cursive summit
#

4K raytracing

rain quiver
#

I didn’t even know it had PT all i know is that RT is on by default

#

So rip AMD users

cursive summit
unkempt lake
#

lol

cursive summit
#

So, troya, what the fuck are you talking about havo

rain quiver
cursive summit
#

Also pathtracing if I read correctly is not in the game

unkempt lake
cursive summit
#

They'll release it later iirc

rain quiver
unkempt lake
rain quiver
#

You cant turn it off can you

unkempt lake
#

rn the game is in early acccess for deluxe edition owners

cursive summit
#

This has NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE

#

AMD is ALWAYS LACKING

#

Suddenly it's matching

rain quiver
cursive summit
#

Why the fuck are you looking at requirements when THE GAME IS OUT?

#

Benchmarks are out

#

Look at BENCHMARKS

rain quiver
#

This benchmark isnt enough

unkempt lake
#

there's more than just this benchmarkj

rain quiver

Also its not that deep stop freaking out

unkempt lake

Bruh is about to pop a vein

unkempt lake

technically im not gonna match the 4080 with my 7900xtx in RT but i'll be around a 4070 ti super which is generally what i noticed when using RT on the 7900xtx

cursive summit
#

Brudda is trolling

cursive summit
#

But the fact it nearly does with MachineGames custom engine implementation of RT it's kinda great

unkempt lake
#

so im not complaining

#

still very nice performance :)

cursive summit

It seems to be decently optimized, also pretty good game apparently

Spent so much money on a half assed bare bones game

cursive summit
#

Is this like a dynamic game overclock?

unkempt lake
cursive summit
#

That's what it seems it is, it messes with memory and CCD timings

#

Ain't that.. kinda not safe? havo

#

It'll crash during gameplay

unkempt lake
cursive summit
#

Not as much as timings I don't think

#

Those are, or well I remember them being, very sensitive

#

Not as much as GPUs

unkempt lake
#

I've had my 7800x3d since june

#

Havent even bothered tweaking it

#

Besides turning on expo

#

And setting up a fan curve

raven grove
unkempt lake
raven grove
#

Isn't the only thing basically undervolting

unkempt lake
#

Is all you can do yeah

#

And tightening timings on the ram

raven grove
#

I just use gigabyte x3d turbo boost crap

unkempt lake
#

To like cl28

cursive summit
#

Todd Howard would have undervolted and overclocked that system better than you Dashi

raven grove
#

My CPU kept hitting 90+ degrees (7800x3D)

cursive summit
#

That's why he's the goat

raven grove
#

Gigabyte turbo removes so much CPU features so it runs colder

unkempt lake
raven grove

I got 7900XTX too, it's annoying, too much heat

unkempt lake
analog sinew

todd just buys New hardware

#

the game is optimized

raven grove

My SSDs are always at 60 c

unkempt lake
#

I undervolted to gain a few more fps for free

raven grove

I don't know if that's bad

unkempt lake
balmy vector
#

Kinda toasty but its fine

#

Generally

unkempt lake
raven grove
#

I put my 7900XTX in a 4000d airflow, I should have bought bigger case lol

cursive summit
raven grove
#

I went pure functional build, no aesthetics

unkempt lake
raven grove
#

I would buy new case but then I would have to sell the old one or throw it o7t

unkempt lake
balmy vector
#

7000d airflow pepesalute

cursive summit
#

Eh, that's fine

raven grove
#

I just run it at 100% now since you can't ever hear the fans I was dumb and didn't do that from start

#

Only Metro Exodus gets me to hit 90 C

#

7800x3D + 7900 XTX, ultra 2k resolution

cursive summit
#

How are you getting such toasty temps on an airflow case and a decent tower cooler

raven grove
#

Was thermal throttling with that game at like 300+ fps

unkempt lake
#

Its just a flat line

cursive summit
#

Did you forget to peel off the plastic at the top of the CPU and the cooler plate? havo

raven grove
#

No I idle around mid 30s

unkempt lake
raven grove
#

I think that game just eats the CPU or something

unkempt lake
raven grove
#

I might buy some thermal grizzly though

cursive summit
#

Metro Exodus is perfectly optimized afaik

unkempt lake
cursive summit
#

Something's up with your case, maybe you are suffocating the case and forgot to put fans in proper push-pull configs and they are all on pull

unkempt lake
#

Clearly something wrong

raven grove
#

Even with side panel off it would hit the 90s

cursive summit
#

I doubt it's the cooler

cursive summit
raven grove
#

I just think it's the game, no other game or workflow produces that same temp

cursive summit
#

Repaste it cause that's sus

unkempt lake
#

Maybe he mounted his cooler fans in a reverse configuration

cursive summit
#

Don't they come pre-mounted

trim crane
unkempt lake
#

They don't

raven grove
cursive summit
#

Hm, my Peerless didn't but maybe those do

unkempt lake
cursive summit
#

Actually my 212X did come premounted

unkempt lake
#

No issues with heat

trim crane
raven grove
#

So I don't worry about it anymore

trim crane
#

they are so clean in design

raven grove
#

Yeah XFX are really good price and seem high quality

unkempt lake
raven grove
#

I like the mounting bracket stuff it came with

unkempt lake
cursive summit
#

I mean..

raven grove
cursive summit
#

Dark Rock is kinda old by now, and not the best, and if you are using some low end thermal paste

unkempt lake
cursive summit
#

It shouldn't still hit 90 but like 80 or so

#

U12A isn't that Noctua's low profile cooler?

unkempt lake
raven grove
unkempt lake
#

Without being well... a d15

#
raven grove
#

I know someone who did a gaming build, 9900x + 96 GB of Ram then paired that with a 4070 Ti, I didn't comment on how stupid that build was lol

cursive summit
#

Looking at a TPU review, same thermal performance

unkempt lake
raven grove
#

Apparently 48 GB sticks are a thing now

cursive summit
#

48GBx2s is completely normal

#

Prolly does productivity

#

With a 12 core especially

raven grove
#

Nah, maybe tinker with python

#

You don't need 96GB for that lol

cursive summit
#

You kinda want a lot of RAM for that

#

Depends on use cases obviously

raven grove
#

Idk I doubt it

cursive summit
#

AI and stuff is pretty hungry if you are running a model

#

Honestly, I think Dashi's build is very similar to yours, and you defo have some kind of hardware problem lel

#

I would repaste your build, check mounting pressure, maybe forgot to peel off plastic or something

unkempt lake
#

i'm not even using an am5 offset bracket, just using am4 brackets

raven grove
#

If it idles in mid 30s I definitely did not forget the remove plastics

cursive summit
#

Mid 30s is completely normal lol

#

Tbf 90 iirc is not even close to thermal throttling

unkempt lake
cursive summit
#

I mean.. then it's yeah kinda high

unkempt lake
cursive summit
#

Isn't it 110

raven grove
#

It's like 89

unkempt lake
#

nope

raven grove
#

Or 91

unkempt lake
cursive summit
#

95 I am seeing is the limit

#

Which you are close to hitting which is defo extremely sus

raven grove
#

Only in metro Exodus

cursive summit
#

Time for tinkering with the rig

raven grove
#

No point in retesting, no more hyper threading = CPU maxed out at 70C

#

Its a pure gaming usecase

unkempt lake
#

I idle in the 40-50 range but i have my fans set to like... being non existent at those temps

#

Because i like my pc being quiet af when i work

#

Zero rpm gpu + fans almost at idle

raven grove
#

The be quiet fans are legit unhearable at 100%

#

You can't hear the CPU fans, may as well run at 100%

leaden kiln
#

Mine is also idling at 40-50 with my tiny low profile cooler, but it's not quite silent then

raven grove
#

If Amazon gives 1 day shipping on thermal grizzly then I'll repaste and retest temps

#

Or what paste should I get

unkempt lake
#

I just use good old nt h2 from noctua

#

As well it doesn't really dry up

raven grove
#

I want end game thermal paste that costs like $10-15 a tube

#

Is nt h2 better than thermal grizzly

cursive summit
#

Tbf since you are running the Dark Rock 4 which is ancient with a pretty new CPU and you said you used the cheap one that came with the fan, the thermal paste is prolly just solid lol

Literally solidified calcified toothpaste on that CPU

cursive summit
#

Noctua's one and MX-6 are pretty good pastes

raven grove
cursive summit
raven grove
cursive summit

DarkRockPro4 does 1200 / 1500 which are.. normal I think?

#

Kind of similar to the D15G2 iirc

leaden kiln

Until I set pbo on my x3d, I was just barely hitting 89 and throttling

cursive summit

If you don't trust their fans, you can always buy replacement ones

unkempt lake
cursive summit
#

Keep the tower, throw out the fans and insert new ones

raven grove
#

I turn off x3d turbo, what stress test did you say I should do, cause metro Exodus is the most extreme one temperature wise lol

unkempt lake

Do we have any audio professionals in here? Would you say it's worth it to get an AMP/DAC for my DT 1990 PRO Headphones?

#

I mean they work fine (I guess) when I use them for pc audio.

#

Using EqualizerAPO with their profile

#

Idk if the amp/dac stuff is just snake oil or if it actually improves the quality of the audio

final flame
#

main reason why you'd want something is if you're going to be eqing, or your PC audio is introducing noise

mossy prawn
final flame
#

not really no

#

unless if your pc audio has issues

mossy prawn
#

Why do so many people have an amp/dac then?

final flame
#

flexibility is the main reason

#

if you're going to be eqing a bass shelf on a headphone you're going to want headroom

mossy prawn
#

what flexibility?

final flame
#

if you get a new headphone, it'd be nice to just plug it in without having to upgrade anything else

mossy prawn
#

Shouldn't most motherboards run them without problem?

final flame
#

most motherboards also introduce noise into the signal, they aren't really the cleanest signals out there

#

most motherboards also don't output much power

mossy prawn
#

Ok, probably true with all the other stuff going on with mb's.

What AMP/DAC would you recommend?

final flame
#

budget being?

mossy prawn
#

maybe 200€

#

I saw the topping DX3+ pro, but its so ugly Sadge

final flame
#

I would recommend something like a jdslabs atom + apple dongle as the dac

mossy prawn
#

Why the apple dongle?

digital cliff
#

because it's basically perfect and it's 10 bucks

final flame
#

the atom is only a amp, it only amplifies the signal
you need to put a analog signal into it if you want to hear anything

#

the apple dongle is simply acting as a dac

#

to convert digital audio into analog

mossy prawn
final flame
#

what country are you in?

mossy prawn
#

germany

digital cliff
#

or the ifi zendac that's already a dac/amp and widely available in EU wheverer

final flame
#

wouldn't you also have to pay taxes on that too?

#

assuming the magni is in stock, because it's nearly never in stock

digital cliff
#

and don't have to pay 50$ in shipping from across the pond as well

magic minnow
final flame
#

ifi amps are alright, although they do color the sound a fair bit

mossy prawn
#

the ifi things look super ugly

final flame

mossy prawn

digital cliff
#

so what do you consider not ugly

magic minnow

how about the fiio k7?

mossy prawn
digital cliff

final flame

#

magnis are constantly being sold locally in finland, I assume same goes for germany

final flame

#

as far as amps go

mossy prawn

@mossy prawn
I would also recommend running a eq with the dt1990 pro, just because it's FR can be quite wonky

mossy prawn
final flame
#

personally the autoeq profiles can be kinda meh
the oratory autoeq profiles are different from the ones oratory actually makes

mossy prawn
final flame
#

sadly no

#

the main thing with auto eq is it doesn't generally take account of how the measurement rig responds to things for example resonances that are created from it

#

and as you can see on the right side of that screenshot there is a bunch of preference options that can be made to fine tune the eq

jovial ivy
# mossy prawn

Peace has an online feature somewhere, I've used it before but had no luck personally but all I know about peace is that it uses lowcut filters for basically everything or highcut filters depending on the freq

final flame

jovial ivy
#

Just don't use Peace.

final flame
#

because it's just wrong

#

I wasn't agreeing with you

mossy prawn
#

Do you use an eq @final flame ?

final flame
#

yea, I use peace

#

for some headphones I use oratory's profiles, otherwise I make my own

mossy prawn
final flame
#

just adjust the gain of the bands you've inputted from the eq profile on the left

#

and once you get it where you want it you're going to want to adjust your preamp

mossy prawn
#

copy this right?

final flame
#

wdym copy?

#

you're editing the gain of the bands accordingly as they are on the left side

#

do this first

#

you can ignore the BW column

mossy prawn
#

ok done

final flame
#

take a screenshot of it just so I can verify

mossy prawn
final flame
#

okay for that first band, the low shelf one
select the low shelf with q as slope

#

now that that's done you can take a look at the right side and adjust the bands it calls to for those different traits

#

go ahead and listen to music you listen to often as you do this so that way you can hear what you're adjusting

mossy prawn
#

is that necessary or could I just leave it like that?

#

what about the pre amp? Its at -5.9

final flame
#

you can just leave it that way if you alreadly like how it sounds

#

as for pre amp press this button and take a screenshot of the window that shows up

mossy prawn
#

somehow the sound doesn't change if I turn peace off. It did previously

final flame
#

most likely auto eq isn't working

mossy prawn
final flame
#

your preamp will be fine at -5.9

#

are you installing eq apo onto a realtek audio device?

mossy prawn
#

actually don't know if I did

final flame
#

you can press this C button right here to bring up the configurator

mossy prawn
final flame
#

okay you're going to need to install eq apo

#
#

peace is only the interface to eq apo, without it you can't run any eq profiles

mossy prawn
#
mossy prawn
#

just headphones right

final flame
#

yes just the headphones

mossy prawn
#

somehow I still get the error when I click the C

#

but turn on/off works now

final flame
#

interesting, well at least it works now

#

if you want to fix that error you can do this

#

actually nvm, probably best to just leave it

#

as long as the eq get applied is what matters

#

the configurator should just show up under windows search anyways

#

but yea, just go ahead and save that as a profile and you can close out of peace

*In the event of a spill of any kind, We strongly recommend taking it apart fully, cleaning/drying all individual parts (except for the switches and keycaps) and leaving it to air dry for a day or so. The only place where you may run into issues would be inside of the switches, and where the stabilizer wires slot into the black housing pieces - since both of these have lube applied.

The PCB has two areas that cannot be coated with our "anti spill" coating, the USB-C connector area, and the four pinholes above spacebar.

This video shows the complete disassembly process.

And no. Damage caused by bad choices are not covered under warranty. Though we can help with replacement parts at cost as needed. First they gotta clean up the board and see what needs fixing.

final flame
#

wanna know the funny thing, funko's are actively incentivized to be kept in their packaging
unlike many actual figures where it's the opposite, you want to display them properly

#

partially due to the way the plastic degrades by being kept in a environment without airflow

reef patrol
#

The main issue with Funko is that it went from a point of collecting a few, fun figures for your office, to becoming this craze to buy each one and keep them in box, like it's some sort of investment.

#

They also generally look way too similar, to the point of being lazy.

Limited supply, every manufacturer overpromised and shops didnt' receive anywhere near enough to fulfil preorders, so they were cancelled over and over.

vagrant pagoda

there were sample cards that didnt get destoryed of 20gb 3080s

cursive summit

Ah so there's a 12 version as well

ashen spindle
#

Don’t trust techpowerup for hardware specs

cursive summit
#

What on earth is wrong with that generation

vagrant pagoda
#

then they used the bios to make more of them in china

#

but they are reworked 3080s

ashen spindle
#

They have some random listings in their database

cursive summit
#

The same with RTX 4060 having 8 and 16GB versions

vagrant pagoda
#

the 3080ti has a wider bus so no way to make it a 20gb

cursive summit
vagrant pagoda
#

if you put bigger chips it would be 24gb

ashen spindle
#

Yes but they also have actual random listings in there

reef patrol
#

Poor 3080 just have to keep on chugging till the 5000 series comes out.

ashen spindle
#

So don’t trust TPU tables to have accurate specs

cursive summit
#

I've seen it done on YT and it seemed like an easy enough process

#

If you can just double your VRAM like that, why wouldn't you

vagrant pagoda
#

you need a ton of money in tools

#

and even more in skills

ashen spindle
#

And it can go wrong and kill the card and isn’t changing performance much

vagrant pagoda
#

it will be slower most of the time

#

as you cant clock the memory as fast

#

its why 3090 has rear vram

fair gull
vagrant pagoda
#

you need the stenciles

#

a microscope

#

hot air

#

board heater

fair gull
#

no you can do all of this without any of those

cursive summit
ashen spindle
#

Nah

vagrant pagoda
#

LMAO you can solder bga gddr6 with a iron?

cursive summit
fair gull
#

no the IR heater

#

its also how you desolder them

cursive summit
#

It worked fine

ashen spindle
#

It adds the option to lower fps instead of having to tone down the quality setting in some specific very new games

fair gull
#

and for the whole reballing you can do that with the ir heater and hand placing solder balls as well

vagrant pagoda
#

radiant rework stations are like 2k+

#

the cheapo phone ones wont heat up a 3080 pcb

cursive summit
#

That's why I asked what's the barrier of entry on those GDDR6X modules, it's supposedly easy to do the mod

#

peeps on YT just did it with a heatgun

fair gull
vagrant pagoda
#

you need a few KW of heat for a modern gpu pcb

vagrant pagoda
vagrant pagoda
fair gull
#

i just linked the first. there is units with a top IR heater as well

vagrant pagoda
#

yeah and the cheap ones with a 400w top heater is going to roast chips

fair gull
#

and yet people repair gpus with those

#

and they come out working

#

no one says itll be childsplay

#

but you can 100% do vram replacements with just a soldering iron and somewhat cheap ir station

vagrant pagoda
#

you can do it with a toaster over, a heat gun and a iron too

#

been there dont that

#

ir station dosent make it magicly better

fair gull
#

it heats more directly

vagrant pagoda
#

i would take a high heat air gun over low heat ir

#

fast heating is key

fair gull
#

i mean you do you but ive prob broken more stuff with hot air stations than ir stations

vagrant pagoda
#

but back to the topic

#

the 20gb wont help

#

a 12gb 3080ti is faster than a 3080 20gb

fair gull
#

wasnt there also other cards in the 20series that had modders put on more vram which was borderline worth it and more of a show of possibilities

#

2080ti with 44gb or smth

vagrant pagoda
#

its been done for ages

#

modern gpus are rarely out of vram on highend

cursive summit
#

2080ti with 22 and I think the 2070 with 16 or something

cursive summit
#

With the pricing of the RTX 4060 you'd almost think it's a high end GPU

vagrant pagoda
#

yeah thats the issue on lower end

#

but then mid/low end cards around worth the cost to mod it

#

like i said cost of a 3080 vs 3080ti is less than the cost of the gddr6 modules to do the mod

cursive summit
#

You still get a 20GB 3080 vs 3080ti with 12

vagrant pagoda
#

ti will be overall faster in gaming

cursive summit
#

That's futureproofing, that's a 3080Ti struggling with Indiana Jones whereas a 3080 mod wouldn't

vagrant pagoda
#

fatter pipe > more vram

cursive summit
#

Well yeah

cursive summit
#

But games seem to be becoming VRAM heavy so, that 8, 10 and 12 isn't cutting anymore

vagrant pagoda
#

idtech loves memory bandwidth

fair gull
vagrant pagoda
#

hence why the 3080 dose so well vs 6900xt

cursive summit
#

UW QHD 4080 is struggling already

vagrant pagoda
#

20% more bandwifth

#

lol thats with RT

cursive summit
#

Actually it's struggling on QHD

vagrant pagoda
#

3080s sucked at rt

cursive summit
#

AMD sucks at RT too

#

And that's their own proprietary implementation of RT, it comes enabled by default

vagrant pagoda
#

in non rt the 3080 is faster than a 6900xt

#

dispite the 10gbv16gb

#

mainkly due to the 3080 have 25% more memory bandwith

cursive summit
#

And how's it slower than the 6700XT

#

That's a VRAM limitation

#

And I imagine more are coming in the future

vagrant pagoda
cursive summit
#

Source?

#

Ah, DSO

#

Those results don't seem right

#

If people actually hit near 60 FPS people would not be complaining

#

You are forced to reduce texture pool to not run out of VRAM, that's not actual supreme settings

#

Here's QHD with ultra textures, VRAM is out, need to reduce the settings https://youtu.be/hrx8HzP9gss?t=144

bold coyote
fair gull

vagrant pagoda

cursive summit
vagrant pagoda
#

just get better gpu is simple

cursive summit
#

Lower res textures, lower quality

#

Prolly also popin

vagrant pagoda
#

its not more = better its more = less pop

cursive summit
#

That specifically says higher resolution, higher = more VRAM, higher res textures, 8/10GB GPUs are dying

fair gull
cursive summit
#

Lower - pop in, lower res textures, looks worse, older GPUs can breathe

bold coyote
cursive summit
#

That's what it says

fair gull
bold coyote
#

yeah I know

fair gull
#

if thats the screenres you can just set the game to lower than your display res

bold coyote
#

talking about the monitor

vagrant pagoda
bold coyote
#

I dont have the game anyways haha

cursive summit
#

Also that's DF's recommendations

vagrant pagoda
#

idtech will also render full texture quailty if it streams in time

#

thats how it works

cursive summit
#

12GBs of VRAM literally CANNOT play at full settings at 4K, you need to pop the pool size down

vagrant pagoda
#

if you gave a 1050ti 30gb of vram it wouldnt render high restextures ever

#

as it couldnt stream them in time

#

just because the texture is on disk dosent mean it wont render in time if the gpu has enough grunt

#

and high memory bandwidth help a ton when you are swaping in and out of system memory

cursive summit
# vagrant pagoda

Your provided benchmark is bullshit though, those numbers are impossible with those settings

#

The german one actually fits what people that play the game are actually seeing with those settings

#

30FPS at best with those settings

#

Texture quality has to go down, and you'll get 60 or so when VRAM buffer is not full

vagrant pagoda
#

so youve tested it yourself with the same hardware?

cursive summit
#

I've seen plenty of people test it?

#

You I seriously doubt have tested it yourself

vagrant pagoda
#

i never said i did

cursive summit
#

Well then what's the argument

vagrant pagoda
#

but calling a benchmark bs without apples to apples is pointless

cursive summit
#

DF did it, german publications did it, invidual people did it

#

DSO goes against all of those benchmarks, I call cap

vagrant pagoda
#

you dont know where each of them tested

#

and you didnt watch DF

#

as the literally explained the texture pool setting exactaly as i did

cursive summit
#

I am reading neogaf right now lol

#

Texture Pool size does not affect the quality of textures all the time, but it does allow for a larger amount of textures to be cached, resulting in the highest quality textures always being present instead of the more aggressive streaming of lower setting.

#

So, pop in and worse textures until good ones load in

#

That sounds rather horrid

vagrant pagoda
#

they found no difference in high and supreme

#

but it has terrible popin with texture and models on everything
