Also, motherboards don't just explode

#

How does a mobo explode??

#

AORUS ELITE series is usually pretty damn good too

unkempt lake

And bending the socket

ashen spindle
#

no the 7800x3d originally had some boards cause short circuits that exploded the cpu

I've seen those but couldn't figure out what cause these spots

ashen spindle

and in theory if you never update bios it never removes the bad voltages

Is that an actual problem with BGA?

I am still on Zen 3 so, pins

all will be clear

unkempt lake
#

I used LGA for years and it's never been a problem

cursive summit
#

I see, that seems kind of like user negligence and not noticing the issue

#

Reminds me of the RTX 4090 connectors not being fully in

gloomy linden
#

Tbh that kinda was a proper issue too

cursive summit
#

Wouldn't B580 be the one that's supposedly "RTX 4070 Super performance"

gloomy linden
#

Lga locks into place the 12v cable didnt really and there were faulty adapters

#

That and the sens pins thing

cursive summit
#

Shouldn't those be mostly resolved with ATX 3.1?

gloomy linden
#

Probably, but just saying that the early 4090 thing is not fully user negligence

cursive summit
#

Well it was certainly likely fully avoidable if the user did properly plug in the connector and hear a click

#

From what I remember from GN reporting

#

This seems also like the same thing, avoidable with care

#

But certainly manufacturer could have done more to prevent this, blame isn't fully off

gloomy linden
#

Yep I did watch the whole thing the click thing was early

#

There were several videos

#

And again the sense pins are what should have prevented it it should not have provided enough power to melt if those arent in
Edit: some part of the sense pin connection was too long I dont remember which part

Big upgrade from a VA panel

#

240hz vs 144hz is barely noticeable though

distant tapir
#

Is that VA on the left?

cursive summit
#

If you don't tell actual pros which display is which, they can easily distinguish 60 vs 144, however 144 vs 240 is harder

#

Imo 165/170Hz is good enough and you don't need 240Hz

#

You also spend a lot less if you go for 170Hz

compact relic
#

seeing something move ingame at 200fps did look a bit smoother vs 140 fps

and i dont think ive seen a sub 240hz oled

distant tapir
smoky frigate

this one can do 1440p at 85hz which is upper end for CRTs, and pretty low for flat displays now

cursive summit
#

You lot are talking about resolutions and CRTs and shit, when will the industry finally give me a proper 16:10 gaming display

smoky frigate
#

it looks good considering how low it is, but it's not clarity I think, just a different kind of blur

cursive summit

Ultrawide is for compensating, real people go for tall displays

I never really liked widescreen

cursive summit

I don't mind the 16: part

#

I just want more height so 16:10 is just ā™„ļø

#

I don't want it as tall as 4:3, I don't want it any longer than 16:, just give me a 16:10

marsh glade
#

Only if it's curved

cursive summit
#

Why can't the industry just give me 16:10

distant tapir
cursive summit
#

Again, there's the perfect middle in that, and I just need that :10 and I'm good

#

UW though is.. disgusting

#

I cannot understand how people enjoy ultrawides

smoky frigate
cursive summit
#

I'm good with 2 normal displays, just make em both 16:10

#

Although I've been looking at those vertically positioned curved ones, and they look.. practical I guess?

smoky frigate
#

I prefer 16:10 to 16:9 as well, but my heart is at 4:3

#

3:2 also fuckin great

distant tapir
#

The world is not ready.

smoky frigate
#

high-hz 3:2 monitor would be my dream. it will remain a dream. but one can dream

cursive summit
#

If gamers don't want it, it won't exist

#

Which is rather annoying

#

Only some select few cool ones for office use but those are nearly always 60Hz or maybe rarely 75

smoky frigate
#

yeaah... some are for video editing, so maybe there's hope that one can be high hz one day

#

I love my gaymer shit as much as the next guy but it's all 16:9 which feels claustrophobic

distant tapir
#

I hate when games don't support 4:3.

#

Even though it's totally understandable for a modern game.

#

At least some ones are moddeable like ER.

cursive summit
#

120Hz 16:10 but... so damn small

smoky frigate
#

I hate it more when games are still locked to 60hz, it looks like having someone who just drank 2 bottles of tabasco shit in my eyes

#

actually maybe I should just play those on the CRT dogekek

distant tapir
#

Man I had so many issues with ER on my CRT.

distant tapir
smoky frigate
#

wtf? I haven't had that. had to install an ultrawide mod to get 4:3, ironically enough

distant tapir
#

ER at 60 fps looks damn nice, clear and smooth on mine.

#

But sadly modding is needed for 4:3 so I can't play online.

smoky frigate
#

but it still works flawless above 60hz, I think they locked it to hide how awful the optimization is

distant tapir
#

Here's to hoping From Software's next game can do above 60 natively.

#

Japan seems so behind on this. I wonder how many there still use 60 Hz screens.

smoky frigate
#

prolly. DS1 remaster does high hz perfectly

ashen spindle
#

it easily can

#

distant tapir
smoky frigate
distant tapir

crimson wigeon
#

Amazed how it happened after being memed into existence though but yeah gorramn it was rough

But with the mod I forgot the name of it becomes the ultimate version of DS1 on PC.

smoky frigate
#

dsfix? I oddly enough didn't like that too much either. I finished the PTD edition unmodded twice for some reason

crimson wigeon
#

You don't often see games where the render resolution is fixed and can't be changed without mods

smoky frigate
#

remaster was a dogsend, lighting is a bit weird in that version but the advantages far outweigh its weaknesses imo

distant tapir
#

The low resolution 30 fps + heavy motion blur original reminds me of when I first played it so it's highly nostalgic.

smoky frigate
#

fun fact, the author of dsfix formed a company that ports PC games

Why a 16"

#

They are small like a laptop screen

tight dragon

It could also be used as a secondary monitor

cursive summit

Ehh.. I don't follow the logic

#

You usually buy those because you plan to move around a la.. Steam Deck or such

tight dragon
#

Yeah

cursive summit
#

They are not great for primary monitor usage, or secondary for that matter

wheat plume
#

If you are too far back from it
You will have a hard time using it as a second monitor unless you use a really large scaling percentage

cursive summit
#

You want screen estate, 27" is perfect

Mmmm

#

I always have the worst luck with finding these things tf

wheat plume
#

What size is your current display?

tight dragon

I haven't bought one yet.

I was thinking of buying one

wheat plume
#

But you said you were thinking of getting this as a second monitor
Which means you already have one, usually

cursive summit
#

My laptop is 17", the screen is 32"

#

You want a normal display imo, get a 27"

wheat plume
tight dragon
#

I'm currently just using a laptop. I plan to buy a PC with a monitor pretty soon.

Ah....
16 inch sound be fine as a second LAPTOP display...
But definitely not for a second computer display

cursive summit

I don't mind Unity, seems fun

wheat plume
#

cursive summit
#

You don't want a small display lol, 17" is tiny compared to a 32

#

27" is just perfect for everyday use

#

Gaming, work, etc, 27 handles it all

#

And usually they don't have any problems fitting on your table

usb mics are usually self-contained with audio interface and mic preamp built into that has to be powered by the limitations of usb power, so you're not going to get the full potential of a more powerful mic

Why are they forcing peeps to pay for SECURITY updates? They can always continue to roll them out, it's not like 11 is so much totally different that they can't just backwards - engineer them from 11

cursive summit

These will be mid-range offerings that will be competitively priced

ashen spindle

and if its release and reviews tehy might only shipt them out this week

smoky frigate

if they make a good sub-300 doller gpu they could gain some traction

cursive summit
#

Supposedly the 4070S performing model will be like 300$ or something

#

Which is kinda nuts

#

We'll see though, I see potential in Intel, but they have a major hurdle

#

Cost optimizations

#

Intel can defo set up a good place in the low to mid end, but only if they can avoid the whole division getting axed

#

AMD is comfortable setting up great performing mid to higher end cards, and NV is as always doing high end

#

However low end just kinda doesn't exist much, Intel can perform well there

#

Though with how gigantic Intel silicon is they need to optimize costs lol

#

If they continue to be in major red numbers like with Alchemist, they will get the whole thing axed

unkempt lake

Amd has tried this before, never really worked

I mean hell

tf do you mean its not hard, they tried and got skill issued on rdna3

cursive summit

AMD can easily just scale up the XTX

ashen spindle

no they cant?????

power draw would explode

cursive summit

They just didn't see the point

thats just not true at all either

smoky frigate

easy fix, put a 230V plug into the back of the card

instability of what, the interconnect? the physical die?

either way nothing points towards that

deft raptor

we know that in stuff like blender the cards can clock much higher within the same power so its most lilkely a physical design issue in the register file or who knows where that fucks the clocks in gaming and thus limits how well they can do

unkempt lake
#

But i'll take trailing over latency tbh

So i'm sticking with fsr3fg for that game

cursive summit
#

Honestly all I need AMD to do right now is to enable FSR2 and FSR3 to use that neural stuff to make the upscalers better

ashen spindle

then its impressive how bad they implemented fsr I the game I guess?

smoky frigate
deft raptor
#

There mods that adds fsr3.1 in some games.

ashen spindle

what neural stuff, you can just make it use black magic ai boxes and expect stuff to be fixed

unkempt lake

That's kind of the only gripe I have with AMD, just how good DLSS is

AFMF2 is showing me though that they can do it

dlss is dogshit though

DLSS in my experience is great

deft raptor
unkempt lake

DLSS-FG though is amazing

ashen spindle
#

oh god thats even worse

cursive summit
#

It has some problems in Stalker 2 though, DLSS3, some weird ass stuttering and artifacting, as a tech though I quite love it

unkempt lake
ashen spindle
#

like literally, fsr3-fg uses like half the resources and time to generate the frame too lol

cursive summit
#

I'd rather play with DLSS3 than native 40FPS lol

ashen spindle
#

you know that just makes your latency even worse though

Does anyone think having g sync is worth it for a OLED 360hz? Right now I’m between the msi mag 27qrx and the rog xg27.

I heard OLEDs can't do proper VRR or something

vrr is still laggier than tearing, but less laggy than vsync

#

so for comp shooters prolly not the thing you want unless tearing distracts you

So would getting g sync be a good move? Or is g sync the issue?

#

Like is it worth an extra $120

I wouldn't say so

balmy vector
#

Not a a gsync issue just a overall vrr one, ive used oled vrr my entire time and the dark scene flicker isnt that big of a problem for me personally

Forsure, much love all around for all the help!!!! ā¤ļø

I think VRR is neat but at 360hz I may as well use v-sync

#

in fact, I could not tell the difference in a blind test

ashen spindle
#

well its different usecases

#

if you drop below your screens refresh rate you want gsync since vsync doenst cover that

I have a question
I have an order for the 80HE module, so I need to buy myself any tools? (screwdrivers)
I don't have any screw driver myself and its still black friday ish so I wanted to ask or it is included like the case (I also ordered the zinc alloy case)?

#

any specific I have to get or just Phillips?

#

thanks

just get a set šŸ’€

I got a keyboard specific one, I would recommend to not get one of the super cheap ones with dual injected handles like this

#

they just fall apart

gusty nexus
old marlin
#

unless you buy the big set the ifixit bit choice is a bit weird since it is made for phone repair, quality wise it is fine tho

umbral ermine

#

I wouldn't get an electric one myself

#

just more parts that can fail

#
  • torque of it is less controlled than by hand
umbral ermine
#

ahhh true
didn't think that far
thanks for the input

old marlin
#

they have their uses, but for general purposes I would not get one

#

ratcheting is massive overkill imo just get something with a metal handle ideally

#

since those basically cannot fail

#

I got a nanch set and a fixed wera set and both of them are really good

old marlin
#

yea but they cost quite a bit more

#

I would recommend the wera kit but their driver selection is quite limited since it is fixed drivers

wera my beloved

umbral ermine

holy the more I dig in the more complicated it gets
I just no electric and just a swappable driver with the ph1?

lofty pivot
#

get one of those nanch ones if you want a high quality precision set

umbral ermine
#

thank you so much for the recommendation
I will check it out

giggle I bought it cause my wera set did not work for my F1 and the cheap set I had didn't fit

korean custom boards sometimes have very deep sitting screws

So people just grab the cheaper stuff that works well enough

Yeah or you take the xeons that people actually buy which are list prices of max 3k lol

#

And then keep in mind literally nobody pays list price

old marlin
#

yea expect like 25-50% discounts in bulk lol

Still good news for Intel šŸ˜‰

ashen spindle
#

As well as there being plenty 1:8 cpu gpu clusters

#

Not really because Xeon’s aren’t bringing margins

How come if granite rapids are made on Intel 3?

old marlin
#

a CPU paying for producing itself > dead stock

old marlin
ashen spindle
#

Because xeons are low margin due to node cost+discounts that are needed for people to buy them

fickle ore
#

Havent seen numbers relating to their Xeon GR margins

ashen spindle
#

Also it’s the same for amd, big one off sales are wayyy lower margins vs constant sales to dell

I don't think I fully understand something about actuation points. I have it set to 0.4mm, and rapidtrigger etc all turned off.
If I press down a key beyond actuation, I would expect the registration to end once I lift of the trigger at 0.39mm, but it keeps registering the keypress until I fully let go of the key. Shouldnt it stop registering the keypress at 0.4mm?
