Samsung VAs were near TN levels
not just <1ms but like 0.3ms worst case
it means that 1khz oled will happen soon
while 360hz fast IPS is having problems scaling its clarity, and 540hz eTN is absolutely unusable garbage because TN just can't run that quickly.
Tn only good with bfi
I've used TN monitors for most of my life, i have one on my desk right now, and i had to return the eTN after hours because it was just completely unusable.
At a perfect viewing distance and position, ergonomically, the top of the screen had 60% of the brightness of the bottom due to color shifting.
I could. not. see. anything.
frames of stuff that you can't see are useless
Currently on a 240hz 1440p ips
fast IPS around 240-360hz are GOAT for budget right now. So good, so cheap
Yeah
1080p fast IPS 270hz for 200 euros or 1440p in the 300's
people would kill for that even 5 years ago
me who just bought a 180hz IPS 1440p monitor
10 years ago, people were asking if such a thing were even possible to develop
i mean OLED is out of my budget and i dont care about it
Vrr flicker is a no for me on OLED, I just want to set and forget it. Not be fussy with settings depending on the games I play.
now they are cheap, still falling, GOAT monitors
meh it doesn't matter unless your game/gpu can drive higher rates
Yeah, i just turned it off
VRR is mandatory at 60hz, huge at 240, by 480 it is not actually noticably helping me any more
whereas 360 to 480hz obviously does noticably help
Yeah, screen tearing should be all but gone at 480
overall im supprised bc my pc can do that LOL
screen tearing was not visible to me really on 240hz, but it was obviously apparent that 240hz monitor VRR-ing in the 170's was much smoother than 240hz static refresh in the 170's FPS.
The big screen tearing smoothness loss zone is halfway between 100% and 50% of the refresh rate, so a 60hz monitor sucks over 30fps or so for example.
on 480 i don't see either effect really
Yeah
the tears are 8x smaller and persist for 1/8'th as long as 60hz
so i just do not even register them
Yeah
on 60hz tearing is very obviously awful and i hate it for both looks and smoothness
and nobody playing 60fps content should be cursed with 60hz
120hz monitor playing 40-60fps is so many leagues better than 60hz it's insane
They're was also fast sync, but I think that was just a frame buffering technique
i don't think most people understand those interactions and how much they hurt the visual and gameplay experience
refreshes either synced to each individual frame or 2-3x++ your actual framerate is ideal. But the higher the refresh rate goes, the less it matters.
Can't wait for next gen display tech, but that still a decade away
Yeah
That first big jump is great
I think that something like 4k1khz at $500 is a lot closer than many assume
60hz is enough for some games. I still wouldn't want to use it regardless.
People are used to blurry displays and low refresh rate stutter.
For some reason Doom 3 being locked to 62.5 FPS never bothered me. I can still play that game just fine.
Probably at the end of the decade I mentioned lol
yeah i think it could be doable before 2030. It's already been done, the question is price. $500 makes it hard because OLED isn't that cheap. Yet. It also requires DP2 or similar connectors which the RTX 4000 series do not have, but both of these things could change quite massively by RTX7000 series in 2028.
Yes but it still is an FPS game. Normally even 3rd person games at 60 FPS already bother me a lot, let alone first person.
I think it has something to do with yes it being slow and it also being very dark.
I think when you can't really see that much or clearly, lower refreshrate becomes less problematic.
Love the screen on my S24 ultra
It needed hardware revisions and a lot of software updates for stuff like moving the display a couple of pixels to the sides regularly and automatically dimming the taskbar etc
most of which are completely un-noticable in use unless you go looking for them with a camera. I did turn off edge dimming because that was awful.
Dell had to actively cool the first qd oled
A lot of people also do crank brightness and that burns OLED much, much faster - i have mine on 160 nits static with a 400 lumen lightbulb in the room
so the screen is bright in that context
but it's not sunlight bright
Realism
^
@astral haven
I have severe neurological issues that are massively exacerbated by light intensity and color among other things. It makes a huge difference for eye and brain strain to have monitor at 160 nits, and lightbulb + monitor with low blue light in particular.
^
Oled HDR brightness is shit. Even on the decent TVs.
I don't really agree given how HDR is standard in modern AAA games.
And I do personally watch movies on my monitor.
Brightness only really matters in the living room
This panel does 260 nits fullscreen or 4 digits on highlights. That is obviously limited and best in the dark, but yeah i don't use it for that.
The color gamut is insane
This is the only excuse for not having a very bright monitor, but I would suspect that this is simply due to the room being too dim, not the monitor being too bright.
It has been studied fairly extensively, and for best human health we use values <= 200 nits under normal room lighting. Brighter objectively causes and exacerbates health problems.
'I don't want a brighter monitor' is just another version of 'you don't need more than (insert refresh rate)'.
For HDR almost every oled is quite meh compared to excellent minileds.
Yeah, but that's very much wrong. We should be using 10,000 or higher.
The oleds look dim and dull compared to them.
We only use 200 because 10,000 is just vastly too expensive.
Top brightness is not the issue, it's the minimum brightness available to the user
10,000 nits would at best blind you for minutes if it didn't cause permanent vision damage. Looking at a large 1000 nits source directly blinds you for tens of seconds.
I use OLED with Windows Auto HDR. It works the way I want. HDR in games and SDR on desktop
common misconception
you start needing sunglasses for things like snow which are in the 100k nit range
People vastly overrate how much 10k nits is.
are you confusing lux/lumans with nits?
the only difference is area, and snow is alot larger than a monitor
When adapted for normal room lighting, a 25" monitor sized burst of 500 nits from 2 feet away is painful and leaves a blurry afterimage.
It's like looking directly into a standard room lightbulb from a few feet away while adapted to the room lighting.
you can do it, but you wont be able to read size font 12 text for the next 20 seconds afterwards
cause your eyes are like YOOO WTF
and yet people are perfectly fine to look at concrete lit by the sun which is in the 10k nit range
If 10k nits blind you then your eyes don't work and you can't really go outside when the sun is up without protective gear.
do you have a source on that? I suspect that most of the difference comes from pupil adaptation, either way
The optimal range for comfort does depend a lot on the environment, but in standard room lighting it's ~<=200 nits
I did not include much study of how bright concrete is under the sun when figuring out my stuff for gaming and office room usage
love the bartholomew guy
google the lumens per square meter of the sun
its ~127k
which translates to ~40k nits for normal matte white material
and this is the problem, fix that and alot of health problems go away (they usually just use sunlights, which even covering 10% of the roof area = 4k nits room brightness + windows
agreed, which is why i say we should target 10k nits
The studies that i've seen proving health benefits used dimmer and redder lights than normal, not the opposite.
When you dim lighting the optimal screen brightness for health drops.
correct, and dimming lighting is wrong, if you can find a study contradicting using natural light, please provide
There's limited data for lighting that bright, but what i have seen is not good.
japan reduced their glasses usage rates in kids (by shocking amounts) by installing skylights and adding more outdoor learning
I did see some of that, it's impressive although there are many other variables like the longer and more varied focal distances outside
Plentiful natural light at natural times is quite clearly beneficial for people near the equator.. For those in the far north, it's unfortunately very problematic. If the sun is up for 5 hours a day then having no light is clearly worse than artificial light and causes all sorts of health problems linked to the circadian rhythm and vision
so use technology to create artificial light that matches what the natural light should be
Nobody has really done that yet, it would be great for study
it unfortunately requires stuff like UV-B rays in controlled amounts
color temperature, brightness and changes in those over different parts of the day is only part of the game
i dont think the studies support that
the japanese used proper treated glass for the skylights, which should very much block uv
UV-B plays a large role in circadian rhythm regulation, in vision and is used to synthesize an essential hormone with effects directly or indirectly all over the body
The outdoor classes weren't shielded from UV-B, so the data can't accurately be used to exclude it from influence
🤷 idgaf, we just need to reproduce what skylights produce to reproduce the effects seen, and i havent seen people make skylights out of uv transparent materials
and many of them were using covered areas
on the circadian rhythm note, there are hundreds of genes that are known to promote neurological disorders such as migraine and 2/3'rds of them in migraine's case are related to the circadian rhythm
based on that and some other stuff i am very much convinced that it's an important factor
🤷 whatever they did end up having, its not gonna be expensive to reproduce if we incentivize manufacturing and buying them, particularly for schools
Yeah, part of why this kind of research is really critical
something like changing a lightbulb or monitor calibration can have enormous health impacts with almost limitless scaling of application
'member when this convo was about HDR displays?
back to monitors, if you do make the mistake of using a non naturally lit room, then sure keep your monitor under that brightness, but then again you should just get brighter lights with a cri re of 90+
Do you get vrr flicker on your g8?
i dont use vrr on my g8
4k240 and all with a 3090 means im never getting near the limit
I never cared about HDR monitors until I got one - mind blowing in dark scenes
another part of hdr is the whole fixing the awful compression algorithms too
for output, but hdr allows you to fit full dynamic range content onto 8 bits
any time our data transfer rates catch up with raw content, that just means we need to improve the raw content
we are moving audio from 24b int to 32b float, if we ever can handle 12b over the internet, we should immediately start switching to 16b float
when we getting 12bit displays
link to one?
🤔
My monitor can't do 10 bit at 240hz, sadge
yea thats wrong
sony websites says the same
yea and its not saying what you think its saying
if that monitor is 10 bit, my monitor is 8 bit
i mean nvidia output is meaningless
no it uses brightness control
everythinf says 12bit there
the panel is driven at 10 bits, and has thousands of brightness levels on top of that, making roughly 12 bits of real info
#IWantToBelieve
some oleds dont have brightness control outside of their driven pixel values, and most lcds (without dimming) are the same
but many dimming lcds have 8 or 10 bits via the panel, and a thousand brightness levels provided by the dimming
to turn 10 into 12 bits, you only need 4k brightness levels
(and technically 4 brightness levels could be enough, but they would be extremely jarring)
Gibe 1440p 240hz+ with 2000 dimming zones plox
Smol gpu
fortysixty
wouldnt that be included in the specifiation if a display is able to do this
or atleast advertised in some way
looks nice
no, the people who need to know that info know it, and the people who dont just get the benefit and it works smoothly with their cameras
seems a bit fishy but okay
thanks, best cable job I ever done by far
lmao used wrong name
s-log 3 is ~ 11 bits, and s-log2 is 12 bits+, 2084 and 2100 are whatever you want them to be
Keyboard companies trying to make a TKL keyboard challenge (impossible)
ye recording it is easy and implementing a eotf too
nvm new day lmao
atleast its expected from a sony monitor lol
yea, i cant trust that my monitor is processing all 12 bits of input signal (even though it has the brightness levels and the contrast to do it), but i can trust that the bvm is
Hmm, looks good, and reasonably priced
right shift weird tho
too small for my liking
Rhythm gamers that want to spread their hand more but still want an HE
Has a knob at least
its a 70% with numpad exploded
Hence why
2 UwUs
You forgot masochist that plays 7k 8k 9k or even 10k
man why does keychron do 96%
I believe in 4k supremacy
Mania eeew
You're like a year too late to notice that
That I can't do
I can transform into a roll
some people work with a lot of numbers as part of their work flow
ya ive asked them
i guess the bigger the keyboard the more "shaving a few cm" matters
still a very weird niche imho
I think the board they make with the numpad on the left (if you're right handed) makes a huge difference
can still keep my hand on the mouse while punching numbers into Excel
That's where a dedicated numpad would be useful, which they also sells
true buts it $100 in addition to whatever board you get
ehhh... Yeah.
I've been living without numpad for a while coming from a laptop keyboard, playing arma feels slightly sluggish without it tho
I feel ya - I would love to ditch mine but I absolutely need it for work
I think I'll be getting the q0 max in the coming future, I bought a set of keycaps that has numpad portion just in case for that.
I've heard good things but the price is holding me back - hoping they have sale for the holidays
me too
Hmmm...
Ex-display Sapphire Nitro or new AsRock Phantom Gaming? They cost almost the same
Sapphire for sure
still hard to get over how quiet modern pc's are without even trying
I wish my gainward 3080 would follow
I am a bit scared about this Sapphire to be honest...
Bent bracket I can sorta understand, but scratched backplate... What did they do to that card?

what did they do to the child
finally my watch band has shipped
looks like body horror is involved in returning the package

nice one
Yeah i might even get one of those
spreadsheeting with 12345 on the regular positions is pretty bad
but left handed rightnumpadding is also awful and i don't enjoy full keyboard navigation
Asrock apparently have decent CS
Since they are the new kids on the block
I was a bit scared to go with that Sapphire
Seller seemed kinda sketchy, and photos were looking like somebody has abused it
Asrock isn't exactly new but they are definitely the underdog.
I'm fairly certain towards ASRock stuff, I had a lot of parts from them in my old PC, now I have Livemixer from them
3 months of savings for a GPU
hoping my new asrock board serves me well
but its worth it atleast
i just found an Asus Dual RX 7900 GRE for 580 euro
i could sell my old 2nd monitor and my old 1070 for some cash
Are we going the same GPU route?
1070 > 6700 > 7900
Both my asrock boards never had issues
My H97 is still running fine
tho im gonna go with this 7900 gre
Oh nice asus is using that cooler for amd now
yeah
No more of that nasty clear plastic version
its my first one and I bought it from recommendations here
so if I have problems its u guys fault just so you know

I don't have that either on my msi board lmao
i think ez gpu removal mechanism is a new thing tho dx
What's that thingamabob?
Use a fork
Or a plastic knife
"I don't play new games"
"M2 too expensive"
Buys an rx7900GRE
i play cp77
its okay at 90fps but i want more
its not bc its expensive
Its a 250gb peepeepoopoo m.2 tho xD
Stronger GPU - benefits all games
M.2 NVMe for DirectStorage - benefits like 20 games
its good enough for windows to me
Fair enough ig
and Hana stream
it's finnish for faucet
Flower
or japanese for flower, whichever you prefer
Hecking WEEBS
also 16gb gonna helps a lot with not running out of vram, as long as it's okay on ps5 it'll be okay on the gpu
I like you too
or just a name
But a 6700xt already has 12gb
yeah i want more performance
you're my favorite weeb besides my brother
Never too early to get more vram.
Besides~ Performance is nice
I just realized, a max possible retail price of ps5 pro almost cost as much as my used 3090 build lmao.
Prop the same if I don't go for x570 board, cheaper case, and non overkill psu.
How much did you pay for that 3090
i mean i get an overkill psu
$600
A ps5 pro is like... 962cad
That's literally the price of the whole ps5 pro
You lost me
Oh
I just poke it with screwdriver
A ps5 pro is 700usd
Your 3090 was 600 usd
@vapid ruin the math aint mathing
You're not building the rest of the system with 100 usd
Ps5 pro on other region are much more expensive
But console gamers vs pc gamers
Taxes/import fees
Console gamer spend more money on games while pc gamer spend more money on hardware
Can't really rake thay into account
PS5 Pro here is 820€
I mean... VAT
also you taxes are included in the price
833 euro
Like here it's 962cad but you gotta add 14.975% sales tax
See?
Which considering denmark dor example has a 25% sales tax
Makes sense
14.975+10=24.975
What im trying to say is
Yall just have the sales tax and other fees in the price
It's roughly equivalent
Tldr blame governments
They tax yall too much
Not to mention from what I heard, EU electricity price is expensive
living there seems tough
Until recently we had something called "new tech tax"
New stuff was hella expensive because stores were adding big margins, because importing would cost even more
Thankfully it's no longer the case and we have normal prices now
Ps5pro is like 50€ more after you exclude taxes in Europe
is 962 the price after adding taxes?
ah my bad then
My wooting just turn off after sometime any fixes?
faster wayland yaaay
You're as quick to the news as Wayland maintainers to approve patches
this was not posted here before so I absolve myself of being a slowpoke

FUCK
anyway, freedesktop can go drink dong water, wayfrog now, hagseed OUT
PS shout out to all x11 bros out there
Those still exist?
I have to fall back on it sometimes for shit that doesn't work in gnome wayland (screen tearing, nvidia DSR)
🤮
DSR?
Why just not gamescope with higher nested resolution?
But no one uses x11
there is no DSR on linux
never downscales correctly for me, looks like running at native res
it's not quite so obvious, but you are mistaken, you can set a higher virtual res of the x11 desktop on the nvidia driver and get DSR
Ah, I see
Maybe Nvidia vs AMD thingy, for me works great
that's not... y'know what go ahead lol
gamescope scaling filters are ass
Works for me
I mostly play at native res anyway
case-by-case basis for me, some games pixelation is bothersome
Pixelation? I play without anti-aliasing
man dhl is speeding . netherlands to norway in one day
dhl is so fast
last time I used dhl it said estimated delivery: yesterday
within eu, ups and fedex take some 2-4 days typically to my location
dhl does it in one
Damn, supermicro is getting ass blasted
😭 closest ups store is >1h away from me so I try to avoid it
Time travelling
You in other universe got it
I can't stand to look at it anymore!
next display is going to be 4k the size of a postage stamp, if must be
27" 4k should be plenty
1 inch 2560x2560 uOLED 😎
27" is perfect for 1440p
where are the 24 inch 4k monitors
I wanted a 24 inch 1440p monitor but there really aren't many
I have many years before I'll buy another display, I can make my mind up then and use the newest beam-directly-into-my-retinas technology
How are there almost no 1440p 24” gaming monitors?! There's not much choice besides the AOC Q24G2A and the Koorui GP01, which really is a shame.

My 4070ti super can't do triple digit fps at 4k
Would have to upgrade gpu for 5k
I swear, 50% of #tech is Linux users screaming at each other, other 50% is monitor and audio enthusiasts

And 10% stocks

imo for 4k u should atleast get 32" 1440 at 27" 1080p 22"-24"
27 4k based
Oh yeah, stocks!
Time to laugh at Ubisoft again
its actually got higher LOL
163 vs 138 ppi
money already lost
32 va 27 4k
Beautiful pixels
Would you guys do triple 27 or one super ultra wide?
double 27"
El oh el
Triple 27, no question
That way I can turn off one or two of them if I don't use them
I would do triple 27, and also sqeeze in some portraits monitors
Just don't know how to set that up
Would be so long and wide
i would use steam Deck
Reading mangoes and comics on portrait is great
I want to go with 1x27" 1440p and 4x23" 1080p
IPS231 are amazing monitors, and like 25€ used after offices
Or just steal em
linux users screaming at monitors and audio equipment too
that was meant to be a reply at calslock WOOPS
why am I even more disorganized if I slept properly?
Linux user? Me?
I'm die-hard Apple fanboy, everybody knows that
I'm a certified windows 11 enjoyer
nah u are a certified windows 12 user
i unironically am, allthough i'd switch to mac in a heartbeat if stuff i needed worked there, and if it was upgradeable
I switch between arch and win11 LTSC preview these days and I'm about equally as comfortable using them
they do their job
i stopped distro hopping once i discovered arch too. its arch or win11 for me allthough most of my time is on win11
I really like the idea of LTSC because I like having as little bloat as possible (on Windows) but I'd be afraid of the OS being out of date and not letting me install certain programs or have bad compatability.
I hopped from arch to nixos
I would like to go back but some stuff is just meh
mostly vr
yeah arch has the reputation of being hard to maintain, which I can't really confirm. you have extra work setting anything up, but then it will run reliably
mine has been pretty okay, i did setup a timeshift backup but haven't had use for it yet
but i dont have a lot of packages / software installed either though
Wish I had the enterprise LSTC for windows smh smh
That one actually gets rid of everything
well I wanted to send you ℹ️ Information but I can't even add you
IoT enterprise is different if that’s what you’re trying to send me
but from what I am told, using a debloater or using LTSC are practically the same thing
Would game pass function on those versions if windows
Probably not, but I don’t use gamepass at all
if you install the store app it should wörk
I run Asahi on my macbook
how does it perform?
I have never done this, don't take me at my word! but with the power of GOOGLING I arrived at the bastion of IQ known as reddit, where people were discussing it

https://hifiman.com/products/detail/349
This is stupid af but I like the look.
Surprised the new samsung tablets are using mediatek soc instead of their own exynos
It's still pretty rough
ah haha yeah haven't heard much from them in a while
oh yeah fuck I just remembered.
global hotkeys still don't work on wayland, which is why I have to use X11 to use my DAW
wayland frog protocols please fix this SHIT
That's one of the first things they said they want to fix
THANK GOD. I'll look at the original merge request for global hotkeys to have a laugh at these fucking maniacs arguing about nothing but garbage
Oh, by the way, what DAW are you using?
My brother bought himself MPK mini mk3, got bored of it, and I can't make it work with any software
Which keyboard?
60he
Fn + Caps + Win
thank you bro
Renoise. it's a bit old-fashioned (hence X11), and I don't use any hardware with it. you use your keyboard like a piano with it. you can run the demo and see if it works
COSMIC dock is so ugly
Asrock once again with reasonable pricing
nice asrock boards
That taichi lite looks perfect for high end builds
real?
price wise NO
5 quantillion dollars
im sure that the 5080 gonna cost 1199$ tho
performance and prices are just guesses
i see
They won't
Datacenters pay more
5090D for china
Always safer to wait for official news
yeah
obv
thats why im gonna wait till ngreedia and amd gonna say something about next gen cards
Mhm, saves me time
sure 7900 gre would be a greate upgrade for me
but just for sure im gonna wait for those
Fun fact about datacenters by the way
Our company has bought 24 of those RTX 6000 Quadros
They mostly sit idle now
and maybe gonna pick up a 5070 or a 8800 xt or idk whats gonna be the next amd gpu line
depending on how 50 series performs will depend on my purches, unless if amd pulls through with performance on some bigger titles
kimis leaks are usually accurate but thats just specs not price or performance
Guess you guys got a new dust collection center
Shame rdna 4 isn't out sooner
We're going to invent in AI!
I had to rush with assembling those racks, to get them running as fast as possible
Whole September last shows only my logins for maintenance
atleast u guys are used it ?
Sure
I played Minecraft on one of them

And colleague wanted to mine crypto on them
lol
lamo
I tried screen recording using OBS on wayland, and it's fucked again, hooray hooray I love this garbage
btw back to the nvme buying stuff bc i just got the 58x3d this January im gonna wait till 2028 with a whole new system overall
I'll have to upgrade soon
Discord and Firefox is enough to kill my CPU
HOW
what in the world is that memory usage
yeah and it can be the fault of OBS, or some configuration, or the nvidia driver, or gnome 47, yes I'm a fucking idiot for using my computer like a normal person, fuck me, fuck wayland, so I hope frog protocols are my ticket out of this mess
no swap either?
Nah, if >8G I don't use swap
thats fair
I have only 4 apps running: Discord, Firefox, Yakuake and prime95, that's nothing
Its just enough memory
i mean its easy for me i reinstalled windows on Sunday LOL
flashing the bios is scary

@ashen spindle
Quite a hungry boi
ye seen it, looks good, if turin wasnt coming in 2 weeks
Efficiency gains not as good as intel would hope

Another 9.9, this time in CUPS https://www.phoronix.com/news/Linux-CVSS-9.9-Rating
oh yeah was about to link you that
want a fun fact?
another 9.9 is coming on the 6th
idk if in cups too or elsewhere
damn it, Apple
CUCKS
Update day tomorrow, yaaaay...
SOC will be on our asses since the very start, 8AM
wow nice temps
yeah its like 2 degrees above room temp
Chill as a ice cube
is this the 7800x3d?
I wish
mine is fine
7600x with phantom spirit 120 se
still great
its plenty powerful for my needs
likely for mine too
was tempted on getting the 8-core 7700x but I don't really do much cpu heavy stuff
No need to upgrade if you are not gonna make use of it.
i just do some code compiling for uni work, but apart from that i dont need anything super powerful either

Drilling time
just go with an Open air system
But thankfully it's only 7mm longer
It'll fit
They finally routed power lines to the iGPU on the Godlike board.
That thing finally lives up to it's name.
Ugly
Yes you are
You can't even see capacitors or headers
lol
lawyers would like to know your location
I haven't seen that, guess it's an am5 feature
Think my asus board has that too
Yeah asus has a search feature
not sure if my b450f one had it
It should be standard though
bios are so user friendly these days
clocking in the 00s was a whole nother bag of rocks
When I got my B450 I was like "Mouse support?! In BIOS?!"
Wireless mouse gets real funky in the bios though
that was a thing on my z97a board from 2014 already
Yeah mine moves sooooo slow in there
Same
but yeah sure surprised me too first time I saw it
Even tho i know it has mouse support i still use my keyboard for it
Yeah
Hello, I'm looking for a good 1080p monitor with an IPS screen, good response times, a maximum price of €300 and 240hz.
First impressions of the Logitech GPX Superlight DEX after a day of use. This is their first ergo mouse release in many years and fits the current market at 58g. The shape is significantly larger than the GPX and aimed for relaxed gripstyles but I think it can accommodate a lot of claw grips. I did buy both of these units

I bet you bottom dollar sooner than later there will be a G pro super light three that may be 2-3 g lighter using the AK polling and what not and being nothing but the same shape maybe slightly retooled
@umbral heron good news the CUPS vuln seems overblown
Attached: 2 images
So this "CVSS 9.9" "unauthenticated RCE vs all GNU/Linux systems (plus others)" thing...
- Does NOT affect all GNU/Linux systems.
- Is not CVSS 9.9. I put it at a 6.3
It also requires:
- The victim system has no active firewall to block incoming connections.
- A user on the victim system must print something to a printer ...
I'm going through the stages of grief with C# I swear.
There's also a boat load of other issues that have been known and the maintainers don't want to fix, it's a time bomb.
yeah but thats very much different from having a 9.9 rated issue or it being not that bad but the person discovering it makes its overblown on purpose to get stuff fixed
Is it currently end times, no. But does it have the potential to be later, yes.
thats why these ratings exist so you can accurately determine how bad they are
I really wish FOSS stuff wasn't treated so poorly by giant corporations.
I'd say a 9 is reasonable, if anything gets on your network or your machine with this running you're getting pwned.
Maybe not a 9.9.
If web browsers weren't essentially entire OSes at this point maybe an 8. :V
yeah we will see, idk enough to accurately estimate it but it doesnt help to just spread false things about something you find
Fair.
like if this isnt log4j dont make it look like it's as bad
It's essentially an unauthenticated RCE to a root system service from the poorly configured defaults of many CUPS installs that also exploits some bad code from what I've read.
it does seem like there were issues or conflict between finding it and disclosing it and those need to be fixed but that's seperate
if the firewall isnt configured and the user has a printer on the computer and choses to print to it after the exploit is triggered
You can hypothetically trigger a remote print job too, that's part of CUPS.
~200k theoretically exploitable machines doesnt deserve a 9.9
especially since it isnt clickless
On my systems it's a nothing burger because I only turn CUPS on when I need it, others it's almost as bad as possible.
unless they leave their firewall on and dont connect their computer directly to their modem
This is interesting: https://youtu.be/ynLm-QvsW0Q
We are very far from this being practical but it's still cool.
We go hands-on with Orion, the augmented reality glasses prototype that Meta's Reality Labs has spent the better part of a decade developing. It’s taken years and countless millions spent to get to this point: a 98 gram pair of glasses with an optical display system that can put holograms almost everywhere your eyes can look and an input system ...
I've happily used my nreal glasses every once in a while for the last year or two...
There's a lot more than just the optics and screen tech that needs to catch up for these.
its pretty much just software assuming you are using a phone or puck to drive the compute
And the datacenters being used for image processing and image generation.
what
There's no way that such a small and power constrained device is going to be doing the object detection and classification or the ML generated avatar for video calls without the help of servers running in a data center somewhere.
With the help of data centers.
negatory
well datacenters trained the models, but then i downloaded them on my phone and my phone runs them
you can find demos of image classification online that run on the CPU of the pi3
Who the heck is letting you do that? All of the big updated networks I know of are locked away on servers.
like obviously stuff that runs on the tegra nano can be higher quality but people these days just dont understand how insanely fast computers are these days
The last I heard about the updated models was that they are so stupidly huge that they wouldn't even fit on my 4090.
it was a student project i found online lel, it calls itself IAT on my phone
thats for gpt-4 and the other LLMs
resnet50 is pretty easy to fit into 100MB
and thats an absolutely ancient benchmark AI
Funky.
i have that potato mouse
It would be nice if wireless was possible

11 a.m. PT
Guess they’re releasing the final version of their ever changing ULX?
biggest waste of money and sketchy customer support
Also they do not run on 1000hz right
Think I saw graphs somewhere showing bad latency
Lol
Failed promises
Wooting and the mk mouse are probably the only ones with real 8k
increased power :/
Guess I might need to upgrade sooner than I thought
What node is it on
Do cpus sell out the moment they are released like gpus or would I be able to wait for reviews before buying
Zuokeing
Ah
However it is spelled
For mice 4K polling seems to be the sweet spot with performance and battery
They use a military drone processor
Oh wow
Oh wireless
Honestly I doubt 8khz is gonna matter on a keyboard anyways
Maybe 2k
Consistently
Now if someone to cheat at a game
Well maybe not diminishing
I can see 8lhz being useful for a solenoid or pneumatic finger
Hmm
Still better to over spec
Being able to customize a mouse to your hands specific shape is absolutely game changing anything past 50-40 grams won’t do much
Yeah there really isn’t harm to it lol
Gamesir had a modular mouse
With hot-swappable switches and a mouse like that it would go so hard
That one has that?
Oh, guess Asus patented it
I will be honest you can test it on a breadboard and then decide
I wanted strong tactile ones that snapped back
Just bought gm4.0 reds and soldered em in
For the average consumer though not many people are willing to do that which sucks that ASUS patented it
They barely even use it in their mice
Oh definitely not
I like their joystick idea but past that it is just a mouse
Joy stick could be really cool for fps games
Well that that or cad navigation or for low mobility people
True
I hope another mk mouse pcba comes out
Was hoping to build a mouse around the current shape I use with some similar featurss
And reduce some extras
No oled screen, led logo and perhaps ditch the vibration motor
OP1 8k is about as fast as it gets
Bought the Kefine Delci.
There is one more way to go faster by making a reverse click switch. But yes it's pointless.
SIMGOT EW300 are good iems?
Probably
Yes.
I think I will like the Kefine a lot.
I got a pair this morning
Delci?
Nah I meant to reply to another message
Ew300
400 DOLLARS??
U laik?
these controllers are such a scam even at normal price lol
Ye
They sound nice I think, but I'm not very picky, fit is good and they are nice and small
2 sold tho .
Kinda missing the chin cinch
https://www.videogamer.com/wp-content/uploads/PS5-Pro-USB-C-cable-PS1.jpg I do wanna buy this, if available though
It's pointless, and would be hard to use in a lot of cases I imagine
But damn the vibes
That’s a steal!
2 sold!
you can just 3d print the cover for a reg cable
yea because the 3d printed ones have more options
you also get a psone as well as a ps2 version
sony ain't keepin it real
Eh
Bad print
Looks like that side was the layer stacking one, better extruder or z axis is rough
there are some iems better than this?
3D printing never looks good without some post print work.
If you don't sand it smooth, it's going to show regardless.
1ms or 0.5ms is all useless marketing don’t look at that to decide anything
E2E latency is all that matters
What is use of 0.5ms or 1ms latency, if image refreshes every ~4ms when on 240Hz?
yea
if "ergo" is asymmetrical mice to you
most of them are some iteration of the intellimouse explorer 3.0, with razer settign the original direction with the habu, the EC is somewhat inbetween that and the ie3.0
the deathadder is basically a habu with a wide front flare, the new ones are between a habu and an ec ig
What is your hand size?
or that they don't fit your hand
yea maybe consider doing finger/hand stretching routines every few hours
Can you.. give measurements?
Tech naming is getting out of control.
Whether it be CPUs from AMD or Intel, graphics cards from Nvidia or AMD, motherboards from anyone, monitors.... everything in tech is getting extremely tacky, intentionally confusing, and complicated. This is most certainly done with goal in mind, so let's go over what we are seeing and how we have got her...
It's happening...
So, average hand size.
Try Corsair Ironclaw.
💀
I can guarantee you it will be comfortable.
my man is just going for full contact minimal rom
What?
in short: the ironclaw shape sucks for fps unless you got shaq size hands
Yeah a bit on the larger side but it should still work.
ignoring the weight etc
We are talking about comfort ergo mice.
Not what is best for aim.
no like even with 21x11cm it sucks
I have 18x9 hands and it's the most comfrotable mouse I ever held.
I would say even better than MX Master.
also imo it being over 100g is not especially beneficial to reducing strain on wrists
Again, we are talking about comfort ergo mice. If you want something for aim i will recomend an opposite mouse of that.
na, a somewhat large mouse can work just fine
dav3 for example
I honestly did not like vertical mouse. Tried it for several weeks but could not get used to it.
vertical mice also are heavily flawed for the mouse part
Or just get the iron claw
if you can find one that fits you
Or at least try it at your local tech store that I am sure will have it.
or any place outside the US
corsair performs really bad in retail in most of the world
I am in EU btw.
yea they had an ironclaw on display at the alternate HQ
never seen it in "regular" hardware retail stores
The local Mediamarkt here has like all Corsair mice.

How do I get my friend to realise that Opera GX is just Chromium with a new UI? cause it is
yeah .-.
She also calls Firefox a "backwoods dogwater browser", her words, not mine
backwoods, as if no one heard of it...
nah, she said this for many many years
Average normie behaviour.
shes always used Opera, then moved to Opera GX when that came out
Opera GX is so bloated, my old alienware laptop actually could not run it.
Maybe...
LOL, I dont doubt that
FF has almost less users than opera these days so yeah
Imma make my own browser in Godot engine
or depending at what numbers you look at FF already has less users tahn opera for a while so it is kinda backwoods for some
at least it ain't a ccp browser that makes most of it's money with loanshark microloan apps
I mean you can compare it, yea
yeah just thinking of what to get after i get all the wooting keyboards

yeh xd
Firefox now make their money from AI though
so the same as everyone else
at this point in time it is still rather easy to clean FF up to not do that
without relying on an entirely different build or something
Firefox best browser cause I can make it look like a GNOME GTK4 app
hell na
does it matter if they know it or not?
Id rather they not use a sketchy browser....
thats any of them just in different flavor
all of them are
They arent going to
even default firefox is sketchy these days
I also said my wifi was being shit that youtube wont load and she immediately said "damn, Android gang lagging"
I was on desktop...
yes
She also calls Android backwoods
and that apps always crash and lag on it and photos look horrible from it
Yes, back in Android 4 days LOL that would be true
have you considered just ignoring whatever she says
since she clearly doesnt want to change her opinion
She once said that when I visit her house, she wont let me connect my "virus riddled" Android to her wifi
why do you hang out with them lol
in general
idk
sounds like someone I'd just ignore/block/ban if its always this attitude
anytime tech comes up, she always says something to diss Android
even if its not about Android or iPhone or mobile
Yeah...
sounds like block and move on
people are ignorant, news at 5
once you get older you realize more and more there is no use trying to convince some people
Yeah...ive already reached that with her
and you're just wasting the precious time and energy you have left on this earth trying to do so
there will always be morons, just do your own thing
so the supposed 9.9 CVE got leaked and the blog posted. its about CUPS
https://www.evilsocket.net/2024/09/26/Attacking-UNIX-systems-via-CUPS-Part-I/
Yeah it got overhyped
seems I dont have cups installed xd
I only print from my laptop anyway cause I cant move my entire fuckign desktop downstairs to the printer each time
specifically about cups-browsed service
browsed?
Needs to be in a non default configuration and misconfigured firewall from what I saw last night
a depressing truth
So meh
OH XD
thats really niche then
I hate filling out forms digitally .-.
such a janky process
The one we have is pretty good, but the ink is absurdly expensive so we rarely use it
nono the default on most distros is just allow anyone basically cause most is commented out
and with firewall i guess the default should be not exposing cups to the internet but intranet at best

man almost like those people calling fax machines to scream at you
What mouse do you have right now?
So you made the same mistake twice?
Yes this hump is brutal but it being flatter won't fix the design.
wtf is that yellow mouse
also don't expect to actually get a decent amount of info from 2d comparisons
You got a fingertip mouse that was upscaled to a way too big size. If i were you I would cancel your order and get the beast mini instead.
they already were questionable before eloshapes
And if you do value comfort above all else then again, get the Ironclaw.
how is an FK a fingertip mouse
What is FK? I am talking about beast mini
which is very much FK inspired
What grip is it made for then in your opinion?
claw
The only objectively wrong grip there is? Hilarious.
ok
any other words to further discredit yourself?
But sure. OK let's say you do want to claw it. Where is the back hump to place the back of your palm on?
you don't get mouse ergonomics, you don't need to go into further details, I get it already
I am trying to claw my beast mini right now and it's straight up not working. How tiny are your hands?
the mini is an entirely different thing
it is very much an FK inspired shape, and the max is a similar size to an FK1
nope
they aren't static
but specifically with palm you don't do much
basically
why is it so damn hard to find an image of neo using his own stupid mouse
well with an ironclaw it is
everyone has different preferences with both grip and mouse shape
if you're not using the exact mouse and grip I do you are wrong however
well full palm objectively sucks for fps
since it directly limits what you can do

hoping they can turn shit around, less competition is never a good thing
They'll be fine.
The government will bail them out like they have to other too big to fail companies but I don't see it getting that bad.
RISC-V is pretty cool.
nope its cross licensed so if another company buys intel they wont be able to just make 64bit cpus since thats amds license
US Gov will keep them alive by any means necessary
But yeah, it'd be nice if they had their "Zen" moment soon
for the desktop pc market we're still kinda stuck with x86 for the majority of software, games etc
if that was the case we wouldn't have a duopoly
x86 to ARM translation is going quite good now
Of course if we're talking about Linux and macOS
at the current rate I don't see ARM taking over in the long run
it ain't that bad on windows
I'd argue it is better on windows than it is on macos
(32 bit moment)
But it's not like x86 is dead yet
not by a long shot in desktops
but there are 4 x86 license holders
the reason nvidia wants arm is because that was the only cpu maker they could realistically get
Not 3?
Intel, AMD and VIA
not because it has any advantages or benefits inherent over x86
esp the only one where they actually get means of production
DM&P also got one
and the chinese joint venture
I think that one managed to inherit it
first off it is incredible hard to make a new CPU, + no market share
also I doubt ARM will perform at the higher end desktop market
at least not better than x86 does
it could eventually just nobody made a high clocking arm chip yet
bit of a chicken egg issue
yea kinda
x86 has still quite a lot of room to grow when it comes to efficiency, and ARM when it comes to power
why does Bazzite always have the mic usage indicator always on when in desktop mode?
They were jealous of Windows 11 I guess.
Yeah, but idk wtf could be using it
qpwgraph can be used to check all audio and video connections
linux can smell the blood of a newcomer and will bite accordingly
But on a serious note, I absolutely hate Microsoft for removing the Win10 taskbar - because unlike it, the Win11 taskbar won't let you hide the microphone icon at all.
what
helvum better reee
What information is missing?
I legit do not know what mic icon you mean
Bottom right of your UI. Notification area.
choice of OS is preference
Windows 11 shows a mic, camera or location icon in the taskbar near the system tray if any or all of them or being accessed by software
fair enough
i dont even need it once a month
ah
😅 dafuq am I looking at?
i’d be on macos if i could. but windows will do
Grpah of sources and sinks
if Linux wasnt as great, id switch to macos, I legit cant handle Window's BS
And we are back to daily discussion about OS
yeah it won’t work for everyone. i’m fine with the wallet garden because it works well for my use case. but not everyone will agree
yes but no i will go back to studying. have fun
wallet garden, unintential typo but very accurate
daily unsubstantiated discussion about OS with lack of understanding on either side of the argument? ✅

Noooo
You're smart enough
unfortunately i got some homework to do haha. have fun
virtual chain source and virtual source are listining to your mic
but nothing is connected to the output of both these sources
oh...
I hope it wont cause issues if I disable them then?
o

why is your controller and input and output soruce?
after tying helvum qpwgraphf feels much better to use and hase more information but way less orginised
going off the name, qpwgraph is a QT application?
Because Dualsense has mic and 2 sets of outputs
FL/FR is audio jack
RL/RR is... vibration motors
my entire system is just this right now lmao
ooo
sings that one Nicki Minaj song
LOL
why does Firefox play audio to a virtual sink? its playing via my speakers but its not connected to them here?
🤔 ooh
helvum does tell me if the connection is fully active with full lines or dottet lines
when I pause the video on Firefox, the line goes back to being dotted
It shows as continuous line only if that connection is actively used, aka if there's audio going though it
yep
