basically getting data from L3 cache is like 12ns worst case, grabbing the same data from ram would take like 100ns so if you can get it a lot faster you dont have to wait and can execute the intrsuction much sooner, and in gaming especially you have a lot of random data that would normall fill up the entire cache and spill over to the main memory so extra cache helps a lot there
