1600 x 1200p

yeah i run samsung gaming monitor for main center and widescreen lg with no built in sound so alot cheaper for side monitors @fair gull i switched up to smaller monitor when was running serious mmo FFXIV stuff needed be faster in big raid fights especially if running as support job having look over the party lists alot more . but recently had get some new gaming controls for pc since gaming keypad broke . so now be running the wooting and corsair scimitar
i feel like that point is even more odd in ffxiv
just move the party list closer to center
yeah for ffxiv not much big move .but found alot faster in shooters . save alot neck movement .
how are the 4090s running . the quality control still ok or drop like most other products. almost time to start making parts list for new pc build
Shouldn't the 5000 series be announced soonish?
yeah i dont game on much mmo anymore they all handheld teddybear games now not the hard core xp grinds like old days . back when had use resume for ffxi to get into end game stuff
oh man new stuff coming out haha the ever changing list of pc parts here we go again lol
So would kinda hold off building a PC if it's not needed atm.
But can always start looking at parts
yeah dont need pc right now . just wanted to start make list of parts. because think was like 5years ago when i finally built parts i had for 2 years lol asus rog maximus VIII extreme . so my stuff is kinda old
Ah yeah
50 series is end of the year as earliest, likely CES or something around that
Well the new AMD Cpus is said to be released in July so there could be some good deals coming and then it depends on what ones current GPU is
Gpu also can just be switched out whenever
Hoping for 7xxx to go down in price
Doesn’t need a new board or ram
Yes which is why one could pic up a new CPU/Mobo/Ram and keep the current GPU if it's sufficient
i hoped for computex to be 50series announcement tbh
Well the stock split is happening on Monday so maybe there's some waiting to push the stock higher after it, creating the hype
Your 2080 ti still being ded?
the dreaded bad memory chips strike again
Bad micron chips
@pale sigil you dropped an e from your name also i saw you type you can't hide from me
Internal joke
Ban me UWU
One i failed miserably
Oh noes the .deb :(((
NERD
I still use Jia Tan xz, lasse collin only adds bloat
what
Not false
but what do these words mean
Wait where is this Jia Tan now anyways, still developing xz?
name of the guy that made the backdoor commits to ssh that almost got into some important upstreams
news to me
basically thanks to some microsoft guy who noticed some 100ms delay when logging in while he was working it got caught
it was actually really well hidden, in the tar archive itself iirc
how does he notice a 100ms delay
thank god for OCD
Btw got some wierd MS bug atm. when putting the PC to sleep and then starting it's taking waay to long for an M.2 SSD to start. Might be the latest update that's borked
Never trusted sleep and havent used it for like two decades
Do you always shut down?
pc off literally means I turn off the extension cord xD
I barely shut doen my PC anymore, it's always on suspend
Sleep or Hibernate?
pretty much only when there is a kernel or GPU driver update
sleep
I just prefer never having to deal with uptime issues and its nicer to see all rgb off instead of that sucking standby power on the mic leds and such
Most of my stuff just also go to ''sleep'' while putting the PC to sleep
seems like it. only used the amd rx card of my gf for 2 days now and it hasnt crashed yet
and since computex didnt bring new nvidio gpus im sort of just waiting a week to see if it still happens
Uwu
That backplate didn't look good
it it hasnt crashed till next weekend ill just have to buy new stuff
A 2080 ti is worth fixing imo
or check for a used working 2080ti
idk any gpu fixing places lol
nor their prices
what does it do
Depends on the fix
That's worth trying
bluescreen with 3 or 4 different errors and all point to either dxgkrnl.sys and/or nvlddmkm.sys
and the only real thing i can see is OCCD showed vram errors
i dont have any solder stencilc or rework station lol
nor will i basically ruin an other wise functional gpu just to try and do it myself
micron just leaked very fast card coming very soon
https://www.techpowerup.com/323314/first-nvidia-rtx-5090-performance-view-micron-knows-better
that doesnt mention anything about a date
yeah
Yes would still kinda think that they would like to push the stock with some ''new'' hype
at this point i have to assume CES is the earliest date for release date mentions and that will be ages still
so either i find a place that can replace vram on my 2080ti for me, i find a used one of the same model for a good price or i drop a few g on a new pc
Do you need to upgrade your CPU/Mobo?
can also try warranty?
its out of warranty
yea but for defects theres sometimes out of warranty options if it would have been covered under warranty
^ no harm in trying
Yup
its not under extended warranty
there is an extended warranty for the cards but it also expired
Welp
maybe see if the store you bought it from offers repairs
they 100% do not
ah
might as well upgrade
well the original plan was wait for next gpu gen and buy that or prev gen depending on price/perf
but now im sorta crapped and need a better solution
Can you borrow your girlfriends GPU?
Does it do the job for your current games?
Damn, GPUs can suck a butt?
as a former Vega 64 owner, they can suck butt and perhaps even eat ass
Went from a 980TI to a 3080 so was quite a upgrade
Oh now he's interested
went to 3080 too and I was happy to not have the feckin games crash all the time
"hur dur AMD good on linux" yet the driver managed no more than 240hz output
Yeah had some friends have a lot of crashes with AMD gpus so was like nah going NVIDIA again
that was definitely my last AMD gpu, I will not get tricked a third time
I do belive they're quite good value and such but still NVIDIA have been just perfect

First PC i had while playing CS 1.6 had an AMD Gpu and that just sucked and then i got my fathers NVIDIA Gpu and then all was good
I did manage to coax it to a higher refresh rate a few times, but it would generally not work past kernel 5.9, and only by appeasing the gods with suspend/resume SOMETIMES
Never heated of a Hz issue with AMD drivers
I had no issues, be it with high refresh rate or with HDR
on linux?
I do not know. maybe the Vega was just that shit. switched to NV and the issue was no more
Ah... Vega...
Now everything makes sense
Yes
@fair gull https://krisfix.de/

okay :/+
If Nvidia wasn't so expensive, I'd strongly consider it, especially now, since Nvidia fixed Wayland in beta now
But at this point everything for me works on AMD, so...
yeah at those prices especially when its not quite certain what the cause is might as well get a new one since that not a cheap repair
Microsoft Recall is a mistake. In this video I'll talk about what recall is, why it really shouldn't exist, and what people are saying about it.
What is recall?: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/retrace-your-steps-with-recall-aa03f8a0-a78b-4b3e-b0a1-2eb8ac48701c
Wired: https://www.wired.com/story/microsoft-windows-recall-privilege-es...
Well it depends on what one can get, the Nvidia GPUs most people don't need a e.g. 4090
thats exactly the issue... i think its vram but it might be more and might not even be fixable due to no IC available or such if its some special controller stuff... and then i basically either let them throw it away or pay even more money to get it back assembled
used 2080tis on ebay go for <300€ these days so a 150€ repair if thats it isn't an amazing deal really
Nah, I wan't something high-end now, so I'll ride it till it dies
And for price of 4090 I can get ~2.5 7900xtxs so...
well i looked for the same model (since it had some nice boosted clocks) and it was 400eur minimum
yeah I was just looking at sold cards and saw some for 250 and some for "accepted an offer" while listed at 280
so your model might get more but it's not really much faster than those
Cheapest 4090 atm. here
i have seen 3070Tis for 400 as well
shame right after crypto bubble we got an AI bubble lawl
cant even find the listing anymore for it. next one i find rn is 475
7750zł
7900 is 4200zł
I mean, if we were to stay in the price bracket you can buy new cards that are faster for less these days xD
oh no here it is https://www.ebay.de/itm/386928756728

I would only look at sold products
no but it shows what price stuff is going for
yes i still have to hope i can actually get it for something close to those prices though
Would be kinda good if you'd be fine to use what you can atm.
well i did a quick calc and if its the vrams it would be around 320 or so
plus shipping twice
Usually these temporary fixes just aren't good enough
main issue is it says ab so the price can be way higher per vram chip
well it would have 6 months warranty on the repair. the main issue is that a vram replacement is easy enough for a pro that does it often enough BUT i am not even sure its just VRAM
currently i assume it is since theres no real pixel errors but straight crashes and OCCD found a handful of VRAM errors
Yeah it could be a capacitor
Yeah it's difficult to say
and id be out at least 50eur + 2x shipping
since thats the price for not taking the repair quote
Yeah
so depending on how they ship it that can be close to 100eur if they choose a really expensive shipper and then i could have already put that towards a better temp replacement
Yeah but the temp. replacement just wouldn't be worth it depending on how soon you'd buy a new GPU
exactly the dillemma
So if you could borrow some temporary GPU would be the best option
well I still have that vega 64 but I don't know you well enough to hate you that much
@pale sigil damn
I have a 750
I have an hd 7870
oh dog I had the previous gen model, that card also had issues
microstuttery as fuck
stop flexing :(
siick
I pretty much give all my GPUs to my friends at a low price.
If not free
When I upgrade
Nico siphons my parts
Makes sense
when did you swap names
yes
Its ok i paid 5$ for cat ears on halo infinite once
Perhaps we are not so different
Dash is cheating on their partner apparently 😮
Making pleasant all access
Rip @glass stag
I knew pleasant secretly was a furry
Well
cat ears
furry and weeb is a dangerous combo
True
a wild nico has appeared
Common doesn't mean it's not dangerous
valid point
For example asbestos is too very common and very dangerous
It's not that bad
Unless you crack open the wall
yeah asbestos is treated like its polonium or some shit
certainly not healthy and all but it doesnt kill you on sight
Neither does weeb furry
I mean my old apartment had asbestos in it, so did my old house
As long as you're not renovating
Who gives a f
If you are renovating then yeah you'll have to deal about it
Like my dad did a few years back at some point
Don't argue about anime though
All depends on the type of exposure
its like lead, theres no safe amount of it, while a small amount of asbestos does small amounts of damage, you always get lung damage, and it always sheds fibers
we are all leaded up to the gills tho
If the asbestos is behind a wall and physically separated from you
You're fine
I wonder how much group 9 metals I contain
It's only if lets say you crack yhat wall
I could be valuable ore
Added to Minecraft 1.22:
- Tak ore
- Tak ingot
- Tak sword

👍
common misconception
unless you have hepa filters on all air inputs and outputs from your crawlspace, its still getting out
the further it has to travel the better but the fibers are incredibly light and love to migrate
doesnt make it good
Worse level than copper?
My dad did have hepa filters
Because i have had asthma since i was a child
Worst durability, fastest mining speed
Can mine dirt
your dad probably hepa filtered the indoor air, and vented the asbestos outside
Yeah that
But yeah the asbestos got removed at one point when he was doing big renovations
Werent allowed back at the house for a bit
I was a kid memory may be foggy
we still have some stuck in some very unfortunate locations
But yeah here as long as you dont renovate you dont have to remove it
https://www.epa.gov/newsreleases/biden-harris-administration-finalizes-ban-ongoing-uses-asbestos-protect-people-cancer

here in the us it wasnt even completely banned until this year
Also took a while for it to get banned here (2018)
And even then
We still sold it to other nations until like... 2022 i think
And still some exceptions were allowed
dont tell trump or he will campaign on bringing back HARD WORKING AMERICAN ASBESTOS
Quebec literally has a city that's called asbestos
i know
Until last year
tom scott did a video
They changed the name to val des sources
But i always forget
Or was it 2 years ago
quebec is officially cool then
OH NO
bush junior killed mining asbestos back in 2002, but using it in general wasnt banned until now

safe to say im not OK
but regardless something I felt like it would be interesting to talk about
95% of stuff about latency is false or not relevant
It was not false or irrelevant to me
me neither
In the next major leap forward towards modular level repair, you can now replace your S-Series and GT Battery Module from the comfort of your own garage. Hmm Tony Lai really got them to make changes
Ok newer models technically until now battery had serialization with an encrypted handshake preventing a battery to even be disconnected in some instances. If it was disconnected the device became a brick and pay to ship it to the company to their only repair center in Santa Clara.

Ah remember the days when we wanted to see the electronics instead of sheets of plastic
I love and hate this trend.
On one hand I love painting my motherboards in a safe way.
On the other hand they had to ruin those plans by not making it a flat surface.
It's also a bit too covered up imo.
Nothing fancy. I take the covers and grime them up a bit, some scratches, cuts and black marks for an industrial look.
Cyberpunk themed PC and all.
Would you take requests 👁️
Or or
The new msi board coming out
For amd
Really like that B650E would like it to have a Debug display but eh
why not just get the asrock one if you want white
Not all white. Just small accents
I always do black builds
Depends on how they did it. Could probably rub off the yellow marking on that using IPA (Isopropyl alcohol), though it might also damage the black finish below, so you'd have to do more work to restore that.
And if I have to have colors or anything I do white
i like that they're doing taichi lite with none of the rgb stuff of the taichi
Rip. The yellow isn’t bad looking but who does yellow…. 😭
Z890 is Intel Core Ultra and LGA1851, before intel makes GS delete the vid LOL
That’s the white one right?
nah white is their non e line, steel legend and the pro wifi one
it's honestly pretty clean, although this time around E actually gets 2x prom21 so there is actually a difference between e and not e line
they used to be long ago but nowadays it's flipped and asrock are the reputable one
I just heard that for amd chips msi is the best board for performance
msi is solid too
msi haven't shown whole lineup yet though, since none of their E boards have been shown
Well personally I don’t care for the brand I just want the best performance
And tbh I can’t tell who is the best
💀
All I know is until Asus gets their stuff together don’t go with them
asrock top end stuff is as good as msi and other these days, i'd just pick based on who offers the ports/option you want
like asrock flagship taichi isn't cheap, it's just as pricy as msi top end stuff
Basically I just need Wi-Fi 7, usb speeds for 8k hz mouse, and usb for my wooting. And the obv best for amd chipset for performance
motherboard performance is usually not that different in the mid range especially if you aren't overclocking stuff (and you don't overclock the x3d chips anyway)
so long as you go with any of the reputable brands in the mid range or above you'll be fine
Ok cool
This upgrade will be my pc for the next 3/4 years so I don’t want to waste any performance by picking the wrong stuff lmaoo
That’s my problem is I don’t know enough the know what’s the “best”
Then I end up having to waste more money to get the right thing
Trying to avoid that this time
asrock is really cool ngl ye
Is the new chipset/boards gonna be 6000mhz cl30 still for the best memory or is it gonna be higher now?
it's funny how asrock used to be the budget brand everyone avoided or meme'd on but now they're the reliable brand and asus are the ones shitting the bed
was my first mobo
I don't remember what I had, only that everything had light blue PCBs at the time 😄
Of course I've had PCs since long, long before the days of 2000 series Intel, but that's the earliest one I remember building for myself.
Z370-E Strix, when ASUS was goated
8700K and 1070Ti Strix
My itx build is an ASRock now lol
So basically msi and asrock. Avoid gigabyte and Asus
I think my psu is finally tapping out trying to keep everything running at 650w
But need it to survive long enough for next gen cpu, psu with atx 3.1 and new motherboards to come out
Ok yeah the Taichi looks amazing
I’m gonna do that
Based on price I might go with the lite tho
What case do you have?
old modded nzxt h1
honestly I wouldn't do itx again. It's just paying more for more headaches and finding replacement compatible parts is a pain in the ass
had to throw in so many extra fans to keep it cool too. Just not worth the headache for tight spacing and cooling. Next case will just be north xl and have plenty of room for whatever I want
Actually was more my first non oem system as well so I count it as my first one too.
3570k with that, delidded at some point and overclocked to 4.7ghz
We definitely need more cat
Videos instead of bugfixes🫣
Aren’t 3.1 psus out already?
some, but a lot more are still 'soon'
3.0 is ok some specs even tighter if you ignore the pinout for 12 pins xD and I don’t think I ever heard a case of the psi having issues and not the gpu connector
So I wouldn’t even say it’s better always
https://www.igorslab.de/en/should-you-buy-an-atx-v3-1-power-supply-now-or-is-atx-v3-0-enough-here-is-the-surprising-answer/ ah found what I was thinking about
Article guest is Aris who’s doing the cybenetics ratings
Im starting to build my zen5 list and just use my current psu model and a cheap b650 board since I don’t need more xD
yeah i don't think it's a big deal 3 vs 3.1, but at this stage I have to wait for 9800x3d anyway so must as well wait for 3.1
i can't reuse old psu since it's 650w and already sometimes i get spikes that get sketchy
Ah if you wait for the x3d fair enough
Okay maybe I do need a different psu since I see the seasonic focus series isn’t in stock anywhere lol
Oh damn and they all shot up in price compare to last year
ssd went up again too, was cheap last time I looked i think it was last year but now prices back up
Oh yeah
But that was expected sadly
Because they just drop production when it goes too cheap
For a 8000 series GPU and 9800x3d will 850 v3.1 psu be enough or should I get 1000?
Who knows. Nothing about that had been announced yet
850 will be enough u less you want to OC
What about 7900gre and 9000 series?
I run my 4090 and 5600x on 750
Yeah that’s not going to add much on cpu side anyway so that’ll be fine
ive had no issues with both my rm650x and rm850x
both my brothers and one of my buddies run the same ones just fine as well
Nah there is a psu ranking you can take a look at, can’t link it right so will do that later if nobody posts it till I’m back
Psu tierlist of people that spend too much time on it so it’s accurate lol
Well tier list won’t help since I’m waiting for the new ones lol
They will be added and tested quite fast afterwards
Damn they on it huh
I was gonna get the 2023 Corsair 850 but no reason to with the new ones coming out soon
Is it at the end of the year or closer?
Also as in the article from earlier, not necessarily a better option than existing ones
How is it not better? Just curious
Check the article , cba typing it on phone
So it’s basically the same with one different connection
If I read that right
Yeah
Apparrantly you haven't lived long enough :p
I mean I am 21 😭
Eyy you are newer than me! :p
This build is gonna be my next 4/5 year build so I’m trying to get all new stuff to “future proof” it if you will
New stuff hasn’t proved itself to not break yet :p
That’s why I was looking at the same psu model I got before, has been working fine for ages and isn’t missing anything
its far from useless, just not secure
being able to roll back in detail for days in my user timeline would be dope af, but I don't trust microsoft for a second with it

Part List - AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D, Radeon RX 7900 XTX, NZXT H6 Flow ATX Mid Tower
Aight guys
Lemme know what should change
You tell us, it's your profile 😄
modtap
It's some kind of "one key if tapped, other key if held" bind
IMO not bad, i think you'd be able to get more storage at a similar price with a gen4 drive instead but otherwise i dont see anything wrong with this
but thats just my thoughts
I just looked up fastest gen5 to "future proof"
gen4 is quite more than enough
you can get 2tb gen4 for less than that
sn850x or 990 pro?
gen also has more heat so cooling is more of an issue while you dont get any benefit for gaming at all
either ones fine

the board has one
Realistically faster ssd's are pretty low on the priority list, as long as you get something decent.
For most workloads
ok cool
is the 1000 psu overkill?
also nzxt new psu gonna be good you think?
or should i stick to corsair
or someone else
ok i changed it a bit
Part List - AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D, Radeon RX 7900 GRE, NZXT H6 Flow ATX Mid Tower
Although idk how much of this will change
i do want the new x870 boards when they come out
and ryzen 9000x3d chips
and amd 8000 gpu
whenever those all come out
then my pc will be complete
looks good, i think you can still go with the xtx with an 850W
Just dont know if the 400 extra is worth it
The one that has the form factor you want
A lot of the psu are made by same places and rebranded, but as long as you get one from a reputable brand you’re usually fine
Having extra room on your psu isn’t bad, I’d generally do it if it’s not a lot more since you keep your psu for many builds normally
OK cool. I usually like to match brands so I will get the new Nzxt psus since imma use their pc case
They reputable?
Yeah seasonic make some of the best psu and cwt make psu for a lot of the industry
Bet
If Nzxt comes out with a new motherboard I might get that
They use asrock right?
The Nzxt motherboard just looks so clean
No idea. Nzxt isn’t really a manu I’d put up high though
Is there anywhere that says which one?
Reviews.
I like the aesthetic of their cases and even have an nzxt case for one of my pc but I wouldn’t buy motherboard from them over reputable brands
Personally fractal north has overtaken them as the aesthetic case choice for me
Saw their fan modules which I thought looked really clean
yeah the kraken aio are really popular for the lcd, although i think a lot of other brands do lcd screens now
The latency is killing me
Did you see the screen that bends to cover a right angle?
Are you playing a game?
186 ping is horrible even by early 00s standards
I don't even know how you manage
Just on the steam deck streaming from my pc if it accidentally connects to 2.4ghz instead of 5ghz I'm like ewwww this is unplayable
I tried it from a pc to laptop.. Artifacting was terrible and latency not nice...
But this was in the Nvidia 970 days, I hope it improved a lot in between
Over a good wifi connection with the deck or a laptop and with your rig plugged into ethernet it's pretty good
I use my apple tv to put games on my tv downstairs
It's pretty good over my WiFi at home
Tbh you kinda get used to the latency and compensate for it.
But it very much depends on the game, for example destiny 2 isn't that bad.
Finally it'll kill the rgb cable trend
theyll put rgb stripes there then
When problems can be introduced let’s introduce them!!!!
screaming white case with huge glass panels and gaudy pink rgb fans, clean indeed
Lol, my main desktop only works on 2.4g because our router is dogshit
Love playing apex with 2.4ghz.... yippie so fun
I can't change my internet
Route a cable
Why not
Because I'm not paying for it💀
Doesn't mean you couldn't just plug in your own router
To the modem
Repurpose the second one as an access point
A decent router isn't super expensive
Pretty sure ours is a modem/router all in one
You can just disable the built in router
Bridge mode
vm install so slow
The main issue is the fact that I'm at the worst place in our house for internet
So it forces 2.4ghz because it's so far and has so many walls in the way
And shaws wifi pods literally do nothing at all
Matter of fact they made us have to factory reset our Internet when we tried setting it up
It soft bricked our router
Disable band steering
Are they plume superpods by any chance?
No clue what shaw offers we dont have them in quebec
I think they are ignite pods
We don't have an option for this, only to make each channel it's own different wifi you need to manually connect to
And that kinda fucks over most of our other devices
Just disable the erouter
Set up your own
If it's too restrictive
Everyone can benefit
Notnjust you
Yes you don't pay for it but i'm pretty sure everyone will be happy
About the changes
Nah I'm the only one with any issues
But when I can afford a new router I might give it a go
Wireless
Wire them
But I can plug Ethernet into them (doesn't change anything)
I'm saying wire them to your router
Also their placement may not be ideal in your home
There isn't a single place ideal for them
Idk how many walls you got or what materials everything is made out of
And unless we put them 5ft from the router we can't just run a 90ft Ethernet across our floor
It's a rental and it's a big house with lots of walls
I mean you could drill a small hole that can easily be plastered over when you move out
Parents won't do that for me
...
If it was something for them no hesitation
Could use Powerline?
Power line? Is that like coax?
No
It uses your house's electrical wiring
As ethernet basically
Plug it into an outlet close to your router connect an ethernet cable
Then plug another one in your room
Won't be as good as straight up ethernet but it will be miles better than wifi
@zenith silo does this help you understand
Probably my only option aside from figuring out how to make Shaw's pods actually do anything
Powerline setup? I heard those were bad a while ago
Better than 2.4ghz wifi probably
If your wiring is awful in your house possibly
But it will def beat out 2.4ghz wifi
Damn should I do it 😭
We talking about a house from hell with poopy parents and awful wifi interference
It’s that or run a 25ft Ethernet cable from my room to the living room
Basically
Ethernet is better if you can but
Powerline is technically a super easy option
All depends on your living situation
Do like I did few years back
My parents didn't want to drill several small holes for me to pass ethernet to my room
So I bought 20 meter cable and passed straight through the middle of the house
Took them 3 days of tripping on it to finally drill the holes
They would just unplug/cut the cable
^^*
See for me I do live with my parents rn
But I pay the internet
So like
Plus with where my room is I can run it along the bottom of the wall the entire time
It would cross the floor
Wouldn’t
What’s the best powerline adapter?
Make sure it matches the color of the wall and buy proper clips for it and it will look clean
Easy I’ll use staples for the wall

But powerline would be ez pz
No effort
Worst case if it doesn't work well enough with your wiring
You return it
😛
Well idk your price range or anything
Also what do you need speed wise
Like this is the “best” I found I guess
$30~40 for a pair of TL-PA4010KIT
I have att fiber 1gig
But do you need 2gbps networking? Does your pc even support it
oh no powerline
Idk
TL-PA7017 KIT uses HomePlug AV2 technology to extend your wired internet. With Gigabit Ethernet port, it ensures high speed wired connection, providing data transmissions of up to 1000Mbps and allowing smooth transmission of Ultra HD video streaming. This makes the TL-PA7017 KIT the perfect home ...
If his wiring is ass in his house he can just return it
its not just the wiring
anything plugged in on the same circuit that feeds back weird frequency noise can cause issues
like literally anything
Most appliances run on separate circuits
depends on how the house is setup
Laughs in my houses wiring
The house was built this year so I’d hope it’s not ass
Which is why it doesn't work out he can always return it
yeah he cant if he buys smth new in a few months and then it fucks with the powerline
Doesn't cost anything to try especially if they're stuck with shitty parents who won't let them route a cable
Powerline is hit or miss dependig on the house's setup
So like I pay the internet that can’t really say anything if I do the whole Ethernet setup 💀💀💀
Also is cat8 needed or is cat6 fine?
Cuz like cat6 cheap
I don't think cat8 is needed unless you wanna do like 5+gbps no?
cat6 can do 1gbps
Ok so that Ethernet cable is completely fine?
ye its fine for the speeds he has
i think it can even do 10gbps
That’ll cost way more…
Since you're not drilling holes and will tack it onto the wall
not like it's the kinda thing you need yo replace often
Just do it once
But do it right
Ya know?
Only other one is grey
And the wall is weird
It’s white on one side
And dark blue on the other
Maybe I should just take a picture 😭
i mean do it once do it right would mean glueing or screwing cable channels to the walls/ceilings and properly route the cable with expandability and easily replacability
@fair gull i get that powerline aint ideal but you gotta consider the circumstances here
im in basically similar circumstances and id rather suffer wifi than use powerline
as im doing rn
well i've seen powerline work well in some cases
My house is wired like a nightmare
All depends on the house and the layout
same but after nearly 8yrs of having been in the field and trying to make powerline work well i gave up
Probably just gonna hopefully figure out how to make Shaw's ignite pods work
and like i said twice now its not just the house and the layout
literally any appliance plugged in and/or turned on can cause it to make powerline iffy
Well do they even have any appliances that could cause that issue in between
We don't know
yes but even if they dont any new purchase can fudge it
thats the entire issue of powerline
it works as long as nothing changes
might as well just do wifi and not bother with it imo
exactly
Does your router/ap support 5ghz? if so, then maybe get a wi-fi card then
i just invest in good wifi coverage at this point and am quite happy with it
He's using the isp router...
Band steering forced on
Its Shaw's best offered router
So it should push him to 5GHz regardless then
Too far too many walls
Switches to 2.4
I think because of the distance and amount of walls it's mostly 2.4
Too much interference
the client can just... not support 2.4ghz
Ah
Repeater then
a laptop/pc wifi card can literally force itself into either 2.4 or 5ghz
no matter if band steering is on or off
You know what you're right hadn't thought about making him do that
literally how i work around the dumb bandsteering of my isp router
cause i havent setup my unifi router and APs yet
How would I go about trying that
He has some but i think they're misplaced around his house or something
Cuz the repeaters themselves are on 2.4
From what he told me
The one time it actually setup it did nothing
We tried multiple locations but eventually the thing soft bricked itself and our main router
Haven't set it up since
Device Manager > Network adapters > Double click the wireless one of your PC/Laptop > Advanced > select the 2.4G or 5G mode and then set the value to disabled of whichever you wanna disable.
bish bosh your device is automatically only connecting to this one band
cause its not dual band anymore
dont ask me how to do it on linux i wouldnt know but its prob possible
Next you'll tell me you picked jumbo packets.
no wambo packets
also if i dont force 5GHz only i constantly switch between 2.4 and 5 causing massive issues when watching videos or playing online games. only way is i force myself into either of them
made me remember why i hate ISP routers
So glad mine can be turned into a dumb modem 😄
not even that for mine
so i dont have a 2.4g/5g wireless mode option but i have this
the channel width idk what its for but this is what it has
im assuming this might be what im looking for though?
btw setting the top one to 5ghz 802.11a should also be pure 5ghz from some newer standard to reexpand the old standards to 5ghz
its some outside standard for connecting on campuses and such basically
Pretty much the same way on networkmanager
One line of config for systemd-networkd
I have ax, ac, n, and a/b/g
which do i pick?
if you cant just select a from a/b/g ideally just ac and ax
those are pure 5ghz standards
aight ill stick to ax then
and for the channel bandwidths it has auto or 20mhz only
do i keep all 3 at auto?
ax is for wifi6 so make sure your wifi base/router supports it
the channel width just keep auto
dont mess with the rest unless you can fine tune the base and clients
and also ofc know what youre even doing with those
ideally youd prefer 5
if youre router supports it you can but the higher the GHz the less distance it can cover
also less wall penetration
Last setting i have is romain agressiveness. default is at medium low
if you go with a 5ghz or 6ghz only setup make sure your client is even covered wifi wise
just leave roaming at default
Yeah mine supports wifi 6 and my router is literally on the other side of my wall (i positioned it to be like that)
idk
but im heavily considering just going to best buy rq and getting the ethernet cable lol
oh also what is the metered connection setting and should i have it on?
then you can trying wifi 6
and not the 5
Helps a bit with Windows' background shenanigans
no
just no
if you have windows issue due to updates or such sucking internet at some point just disable those specifically
Isn't WiFi 7 also 6GHz?
i dont trust router/mode/wifi combo units
assumes you got a modem/ont
lots of ISPs in europe like giving our router/modem combos and not pure modems
For Ethernet the ISP router is fine right? I don’t need a new router
ISP routers are bad at Wi-Fi, for wired it shouldn't matter
really depends on the ISP, at least here not all of the options are terrible
well, i'd suggest using ethernet if you can to your desktop. If you're having issues with slow wifi on your other devices then upgrade your router
wired/ethernet is the best (lowest ping + most stable/connectivity + fastest speeds)
go for cat6a ethernet cables from monoprice
Cat5e is enough for 1gbit
And much cheaper too
Best Buy only got cat6
Any other cat and I have to order from Amazon
Pretty cheap too
Cat6 will do too
That's feet or inches?
Ah, ok
Yeah feet
So it says the max is 1gig
And my internet is 1gig
Will that be an issue
Having no headroom?
And the connector type is RJ45 is that matters
thats all fine
24k gold plating good too?
gold plated cables is just marketing scam
Ah gotcha
if its not costing more its w/e but never pay more for it
There's no headroom
1000BASE is 1000BASE
Gotcha
Just didn’t know if like having more headroom was better for the connection?
What’s the difference between a router and a modem?
Cat6 to up to 50m can support 10Gbit connection, so plenty of headroom
Modem takes the outside connection and turns it into one, local connection.
Your router takes that one connection and spreads it out to more devices in your home, wired and wireless.
In a nutshell.
Ah ok cool
So a modem is not used in houses usually?
You would only really see routers
Most ISP gear is a combined modem and router - aka. a "gateway"
Also throw in wifi AP on top of that
Though you can get lucky and receive both a modem (especially with fiber) and a router separately.
Damn
My fiber didn’t
I only got one
Assuming that’s a router
Wi-Fi 7 vs Ethernet
Ethernet wins everytime right
I have a flat ethernet cable going from my bedroom, through the living room and into my office, covered by small carpets. Just so I don't have to deal with wifi equipment put in a metal and concrete technicians closet.
You gonna plug an Ethernet cord through a dongle on your phone?
Practically unusable Wifi.
I’m talking about for my pc.
Ok yeah I have a gateway
Is that normal, for it to be in concrete not like in a closet or a extra room?
To be this enclosed is kind of unusual - But I guess there's a reason why every ISP always offers 2-3 "free" wifi repeater cubes with every subscription these days.
I refuse to conform to such bad practices.
I remember my high school had repeaters in the form of routers
But in terms of performance has Wi-Fi caught up or is Ethernet still superior
Wifi will never "catch up", since it has to deal with things in the air.
Ah ok
A cable doesn't receive remotely the same level of interference or has to deal with wall materials and so on.
Yeah that’s fair
Wifi 6,7 or 8 - Doesn't matter. A cable will always have a more stable connection with less potential for data loss.
Doesn't matter as much for Netflix, since it buffers. But if you're playing an online game? Oofda
Power line adapters or whatever they do, but not directly from router.
Those rarely work here due to how our breakers are set up.
OK cool I’ve never used Ethernet so this should be cool. Wonder if I’ll notice a difference
Interesting
I've sold so many of those adaptors, only to have to take them back within a week from customers.
At very least the speed should be consistent
Figures
We've kind of reached a point here where you either get internet and cable TV together through coax, fiber for high speed "influencer friendly" internet or a simple 5G router for "I just need to watch Netflix and doomscroll" 😄
5G to wifi is great, but at least here such routers are locked down. On the upside can put them in the same room as where you are for the strongest connection.
no
Just leave it default?
pls dont randomly change your ethernet settings. just leave em as is
default stuff on things is usually made to work
Sounds good
had to virsh destroy this one cause apparently 2 vcpu and 4GiB ram isnt enough
“Second, we’re excited to work with our partners at Kingston Technology and G.Skill with the second generation of compression attached memory modules (CAMM2). These memory manufacturers have dedicated manufacturing and testing to enable high volume production of this product, and we’re proud to demonstrate our support for Kingston Technology and G.Skill DDR5 CAMM2.
Many analysts have noted the potential advantages of CAMM2 for the laptop space, but these memory modules have also caught our attention for desktop PCs, as well. For one, they’re thinner. That saves motherboard space for other components. Second, CAMM2 modules can provide dual-channel performance equivalent to two DIMMs from only module. For a small form factor (SFF) motherboard, that could save much-needed space without compromising on performance. Finally, we’re interested in the high capacity of CAMM2, especially compared to SO-DIMM. With next-gen 32Gb DRAM chips, CAMM2 could reach a max capacity of 128GB per module.”
Saw this on Asus’s article so there are advantages to CAM becoming a standard.
There are some things there that can potentially improve your network connection, as there is no "perfect solution" for everyone. You should read about what each setting does and decide for yourself if you need that or not. Default doesn't mean good in any way.

This is a good guide to start with.
wysi btw
for reference its a costco pc for $1700 with a 14900k 4070 2tb nvme 32gb ram and shit
ever since im in canada photos havent been uploading
my service provider is in the us
My brother's phone send photos in heic
Any photos or screenshots he takes uploads to discord as heic
You can change it easily if its an iphone
no we dont use iphones
Camera - Format - Most Compatible
O
Probably has an equivalent on android
If not then that's stupidddd
guys does anyone know if the wooting60he+ module is compatible with the tofu acrylic case ?
and can i use the pcb that comes with the tofu case and transfer everything from the wooting on there? (going to be my first custom keyb)
This is amazing thank you!
There is so much info
The author put his recommended settings in the Addendum section, but in general, I still advise you to read it yourself with his reasoning.
bet ty
Heic is better than jpg
And discord used to handle it fine.. But recently not anymore
I just put his recommended. I read thru it all but yeah he did a good job with recommened i didnt need to change anything
ty for this!
Is there any other thing like this but for like OS?
I tried to use ryzen master to auto oc and do the curve optimizer and yeah
blue screen
every 5 min
rip overclocking on my pc
Look for optimizer on GitHub and for OOSU10
kk
For the OOSU10 can i just set the recommend settings and be good?
Yep
It's more of an anti spyware & telemetry than optimizer
But I guess it will help your network a lil bit
kk
Since it won't be busy sending all of your data to big daddy Microsoft
kk
Well he didnt have recommended settings so hopefully i didnt mess anything up lmaoo
New record on "4G+"
damn
Good news
Now if we could delete it outright
theyll sneakily reverse it in 3 months time
Enter EU
the EU is usually based tho I'm worried about this election
damn I voted per mail
I wanted to vote but there's just so many candidates I don't know who to vote for aaaaaaaaaaa
my small brain can't handle it
You guys get brownies???
God damn i wish that were me
Knew what I wanted to vote for, took the online test we have here and it was recommending me what I already picked with 87% fitting answers xD
I mean... Lidl sold them so...
just give thelist of a party you like
aint nobody got time to cross for 120310239184 different peeps
Don't really like any of them
I think 🤷♂️ 🗳️
just take the one that makes you barf the least
every vote means the extreme left/right parties get less influcence and thats what matters most

Updated build
What we think
And yes I know some of those parts are overkill. I’m like future proofing this thing to the max
it's better to not spend money on something that doesnt do anything for you and use that for new stuff vs futureproofing
like the ssd is just costing double what you can pay for fast 2tb and you wont ever get a benefit
Well the only thing I’d change in that is the 7000 series for the 9000 series when it comes out. And the motherboard for the x870e when they come out.
Well if the board has pcie 5 I might as well use it
And get the fastest
Yeah DirectStorage man
no you are literally just wasting money to have a higher number that doesnt change anything
like gen4 ssd is already future proofing because that doesnt even get used in games or anything
Well if it’s not that then I would get the 2tb sn850x
MS be like
No im not trying to be like F off or anything. Im just trying to figure out why pcie 5 sucks I guess? Everyone says it does but I still don’t get it cuz 14gbps read is crazy fast
psu you also want to make smaller because sure you can just throw 10kW at it and never need to upgrade, but that runs them at lower efficency if you dont hit their sweet spot
ideally you would want to run psus at 50% load, much lower drops the efficency a lot and just means you use more electricity for nothing
So for that build I would need a 850 or 1000?
and pcie gen5 just sucks from consumer point because it makes the product more expensive, it gets warmer and the faster theoretical! speeds just dont get hit in anything desktop
