unlike the dual ccd chips both the 9700x and 9600x have 100mhz boost above their zen4 counterpart so the 9700x is just the new name for the regular die 1ccd solution
But they are still 300 MHz behind the dual ccds
cries in ryzen 3 cpu
Was the 7700X the best gaming cpu after the x3d chips or was that a fluke?
I remember early benchmarks had it beating the 7950x in csgo/val
think it was a tossup based on how games accesed cores on the second chiplet
Yeah something to do with dual ccd latency on games vs single ccd
there was not a single game where the 3100 won tho, it either was microscopically worse or alot worse
in the highly memory bound games the 3300x was competing with intels speedy bois at the time, tho it was pretty much only in sotr and csgo
He was responding to my 7700x question
yea
oh i see yea im bad at reading
the 7700x cant win against a "game mode" 7950x if that was even still a thing
yeah not counting disabling one ccd
but either way its a lot closer than on intel since the per core caches arent gimped on the lower tier
sure but intel was also faster in general excluding the x3d, and the x3d kinda just dominates all
x3d has been pretty much sitting at the middle of next gen on average
might even be a bit better this time around
but thats too wild speculation for now till we get some uarch confirmation when the stuff is fully launched
https://tpucdn.com/review/intel-core-i7-13700k/images/power-games.png
also intel went alot wilder on i9 vs i7 for power consumption
Seasonic and Noctua team up for flagship PSU design Available in Q4. Spotted on the Computex 2024 show floor just before the event officially kicks off is Seasonic’s new power supply. Apparently, the company is set to launch a new power supply featuring an unusual brown color scheme. This design is, of course, a hallmark […]
I love it
people kept complaining to noctua that you cant color match their fans, well noctua is fixing it
fair
thats going to be expensive as fuck though
seasonic with titanium rating at 1600w and noctua edition
Now i want it
its not gonna be 1200w MIJ tier tho
oh but they actually list the cybenetics rating too not just 80+ thats cool
The sakura edition was 500, probably about the same
Oh wait it was only 1000w
I can see 750
I was thinking closer to $400 but damn

depends on if its limited edition or an attempt at a larger production
seems like defualt edition of that is 560/599 on amaozn/newegg
just 480(incl taxes) in europe ironically
Maybe Noctua needs money and this helps?
Or for fun lol
All noctua need to do is drop the next d15 and they'll get a boost on sales
But they haven't
And other brands have all caught up
Well I bought my noctua fans and cooler 8+ years ago and they send free brackets for new sockets so I guess I'll keep using the same cooler 😎

Detail how AI unlocks new possibilities in the data center and cloud, PC, and across the world’s network and edge applications. Gelsinger will also showcase Intel's next-generation data center and client computing products bringing AI Everywhere by making the technology accessible through open ecosystems support.
thank you for your service
deep breathe
“Ai ai ai ai ai ai 🤖 ai ai ai ai 🤖 ai ai oh and ai”
I LOVE AII
- companies
amd has the current record for ai, but intel has the ai per minute record, lets see if intel can beat both this next time
Cant wait to see how it goes
Guys what u think Wooting 60he+ or Gamakay tk75 he both have rapid trigger?
what do you think people will tell you on a wooting server
also ask it in one channel not multiples
doesnt intel have the record according to your image
yea but they only did 167 as their most ai/presentation, amd has 250 for the most ai/presentation
oh i misread the sentence
how the crap can NVIDIA whos the AI market leader have the least amount of mentions
jensen does talk slower and doesn invite partners to wank them off on stage
im pissed the desk fan is black
sakura edition was 290
why would you want that
add it as a bookmark or a pin in your browser?
How often are you changing your settings😭
I haven't really touched my profiles in months
3min and half
Other than to swap active slots
you can put any program into the startup folder but just put it as a tab into your browser so you dont load up the enitre app every startup
i dont understand
but when i try to put something like 10
if i do it "fast"
even if i click 1 - 0 - spacebar
it put
1 0
thats because the spacebar pressed earlier than 0
Alright time to watch what intel showed this morning, looks like lunar lake for laptop is nice and the server products are an entire generation behind now lol
aha it seems lunar lake is using tsmc?
yeah its fully tsmc
just like some ARL versions
desktop will be a mix on n3b and 20a for the cpu tile
interesting
oh yeah @fickle ore first lion cove is tsmc just like you will see on desktop for some parts since thats what ARL also uses
intel roadmap looks exciting now, especially compared to m#
ehh somewhat
really depends how it shapes up
if we get panther lake on desktop or if its just a repeat of MTL and we only get ARL refresh
thats fair, guess we have to wait and see
server on the other hand...
seems like the server slides werent even shown in the keynote lmfao
intel wants to focus on GPUs now. its not consumer or business anymore thats the focus
all i found was this but doesnt seem too server focused https://www.anandtech.com/show/21427/the-intel-computex-2024-keynote-live-blog

well, let's hope the next gen of gpus is good
Intel Accelerates AI Everywhere, Redefines Power, Performance and Affordability With Intel Xeon 6 processors, Gaudi accelerators and Lunar Lake architecture, Intel delivers the best of AI across cloud, networking, client and edge solutions. TAIPEI, Taiwan, June 4, 2024 – Today at Computex, Intel unveiled cutting-edge technologies and architectur...
aha
this slide in particular is kinda sad
at best performance parity for a little bit lower power
..except amd announced next gen yesterday and this is last gen now
yea i was about to say they were comparing it to 4th gen lol
so i guess amd is still faster with the new one
oh god it gets even worse
I thought it was 128c vs 128c
its the 64c/128c epyc
its 128t vs 128t
E-cores man think of the efficiency
so not even agains the 96c genoa or 128 zen4c bergamo even
more efficient
was the key point for that
yeah and it failed at its key point
oh and e cores also still dont have avx512 even on servers
yup
guh
they prob wouldn't be so e if they had
Do you guys think intel will even be able to compete with nvidia?
lol no
not with next gen
Figured lol
neither in dgpu nor in data center for at least the next 2 generations
depending on how decent the next gen is they might be a good deal wher they end up sitting at
but also still not mature hardware or drivers
for consumers maybe but that would be just if they offer it way too cheap like they do with arc
so the competition comes from cutting margins down which isnt sustainable forever
yea basically
I hope options will be available that do really compete.
for which segment
well certainly not at the high end for a good while
what segment in gpus
that ranges from like 50$ gt710s to datacenter gpus that costs hundreds of thousands
Consumer
that still is from 50 dollars to like 1500
Yea doesn’t narrow it at all lol
It’s all over priced on nvidias end
I did see intel will be producing nvidias chips in its fab though. I’m thinking intel may learn something from this and use said knowledge in their gpus.
well, except they arent xD
What do you mean?
the only thing made by nvidia on intel is their arm cpus for servers and maybe some packaging
not gpus, and even if they ever move gpus to intel they can never use that to improve intel gpus because that would be corporate espionage
That’s probably true even if they did do it I don’t think intel wants the lawsuit.
Intel is already somewhat competitive in the midrange
yesnt
for consumers yes because its extremely subsidized
which as consumer doesnt matter in the moment but matter when thinking how it looks like in the future
yea their products need to get more solid at the pricepoints they should be at
Fun day tomorrow
My patient - lxc with Debian 6, running 2 services on php5.3 and several python2.6 scripts
Update to Debian 12, php8 and python3
That's gonna be painful
Good old pho
Genuinely what the eff is a lion cove. We've got nautical cats now?

A lion would be out of its mind, if it ever saw a beach and the ocean.
Yes, we do
yeah but how far is that out..
Intel has also "announced" 14A not like we getting it anytime soon
perf parity with lower power is good for mobile
how far is it out? turin has been sampled to customers since last year
GA launch next quarter
This is massive improvement and they're catching up
this is servers not mobile lol

Noctua is finally launching its Noctua NH-D15 G2 that we've been talking about for years now. The cooler is shipping right now and launching sometime in June or July this year, with new fans coming up in September or October. The Noctua ...
ngl thats the biggest computex surprise
Oh wow, was it worth the wait?
Yeah will be interesting to see how this $150 cooler will perform
thankfully amd is generous enough to not push power so 50$ coolers do the trick for gaming setups lel
Yeah
I mean, you wont need to upgrade if you stick to gaming usecases from a d15 lol
The only thing intel got going for them are the accelerators on the cpu
But dunno how relevant they are to most datacenter
and even then amd has avx512
only reason to go for intel in the DC is for QAT
or if your dc is tiny and you want a small cheap chip
yeah sienna doesnt have anything for QAT and if we get turin ai which would fill that void is uncertain atm
amd could hit 50% data center share in 2025 lol
yea xylinx has the qat acceleration in the nics themselves, so i dont expect amd to integrate them into their non router cpus
*qat style
well turin ai was basically turin with one xilinx chiplet
no clue if thats still coming
oh god turin is going to murder that
in some stuff its not too far behind, sometimes even eeking out a perf/watt win
but yea it aint pretty
Conclusion is somewhat positive though
ofc, these cpus are good for server operators, intel is gonna have to sell them for rather cheap and they can run a ton of vms
yeah, positive compared to the product from 2 years ago xD
this isnt the new amd options that just got announced too
so for like a few weeks where those aren't in general availability and you are too small of a company to get early sampling it is an okay-ish option
yeah except the next gen CWF isn't even using the e cores that just got shown in lunar lake
So much lower core count?
next gen is not increasing core performance much, probably same core count but thats halfway into the life of turin dense and closer to venice then
oh right and core countrs could increase again with venice too
@ashen spindle any laptop news?
new chips from amd and intel released yesterday/ this morning
intel weak but low power, amd stronk but xpensiv
Hmm
Booooo
But TBF I won't need one for at least 3 or so weeks
strix starts in july, lunar lake in q3 so anywhere from july-september
Unboxing Asus' Zenbook S16 (2024), an impressively skinny 16-inch laptop boasting AMD Strix Point smarts and a gorgeous OLED display. This fresh performance notebook is about as compact as a 16-incher could possibly be, but the Zenbook S16 certainly doesn't skimp on performance or battery life.
This is a pre-production sample so I can't benchma...
o yikes, that HDMI port is hanging on for dear life
🤢 COPILOT key
Especially if you dont use Windows...now there are two symbols on your keyboard for shit you dont ever use
Oh no two different symbols instead of the same one twice.. how horrible
two symbols I never use...
i don’t care about the copilot key but that hdmi looks like it’s broken to me
at least the wooting boards come with the Wooting logo instead of the Windows logo
sharp edges at the bottom...yeah
Yeah instead of the one symbol you don’t use twice.. it’s not a new keycode for the system
im pretty sure the copilot key is actually just the old menu key that noone used either
the linkedin key xd
oh wait nvm copilot key is apparently f23
Thought it’s just right windows key
nope
hmm pressing f23 doesnt trigger copilot on my computer
right win doesnt trigger copilot either
o.o
it's left shift + windows + F23
thats it!
either way its an action that you can bind like any other
I wonder if gigabyte is doing a BTF board
Maybe I'll get a copilot lappy
i’m gonna wait for lunar and see how battery is, if not then idk yet
can’t be bothered to beta test woa for ms
yeah lunar seems to be great for thin laptops without dgpu
yea i don’t need dgpu on the laptop so it seems good
seems okay from this

eh doesnt really show anything besides they have a hardware devocer for video
twice as fast in stable diffusion is p good
it better be with an entire npu block on there lol
wtf is this, ASUS?
often the ais are mem bound, and a 2x speedup is pretty good
Asus marketing is peaking i see
LOL
look how much space is wasted for the npu it better do its job at least
.-.
thank you microsoft
I wonder how many years it will take for Linux to get a feature that can use the NPU
cause isn't the NPU basically useless for anything other than AI?
until someone writes code to use it, probably for local llm or something
Probably not long.. But integrated out of the box? Long
It should already have support.
Most of the ai libraries in Python support it
I mean, unofficially you can already use rocm on apus and that uses the npus on hawkpoint
so its already there and rocm client for that is only linux xD
And OpenVino supports tensorflow and pytorch
damn D15 G2 is 150
Random numbers ok
Noctua cooler
asus is unfortunately shit now.
Literally my favorite parts company for a solid 10 years, but that was back when they were sticking lifetime warranties on stuff because they actually stood behind their products.
Now you get 1-2 years and if you actually need to send the stuff in, they'll nickle and time you like wild
I'll still buy them if I don't know better. and I don't know better 😛
I would genuinely avoid anything they manufactured after 2021~2022. At least until their warranty issues get sorted out
Nobody wants an apple situation where your "Warranty" has you paying as much as the cost of the device to repair it, and that's where asus is at right now.
man we are entering the AI age fast
soon we all have our own NPUs and they still wont have found out why it suggests you drink bleach
The gn thing rubbed so wrong
Like I have asus peripherals
And I’m straight replacing it when it breaks
the closest thing I have that are asus are my asrock mobos
They aren’t a subsidiary of ASUS anymore
And there quality apparently is surprisingly good
they are owned by pegatron, in which asustek have 17% ownership in
in some way or another, they are still "owned" by asus
Aswtek owns asus?
asustek
Pegatron and asrock are both spun off from Asustek
asetek is entirely separate
and pegatron owns asrock
But they are separate entities now
right 😉
sure but the lineage is still there
and the ownership and controlling stock is still there
nothing got fully seperated
just "restructured"
my asrock boards just hasn't failed on me, so I haven't dealt with their RMA process
though I heard their GPU RMA is decent compared to others
since they are the underdogs
^^
I mean stock holders do things however it’s different management
Which should solve some of the issues
i used to hear of folks having trouble but not so much in the last few years
Yeah the new management has been doing well
They’ve released high end board without all the bs features
"high end"
Well this didn’t age well lol

they make general purpose boards, but nothing extraordinary
if a feature has no drawbacks its probably on the board
but they dont have any pcie slots outside of the standard gpu ones, its all used up on m.2
they have thunderbolt but only via igpu now, no option to plug in a dgpu
and some of their boards have slightly higher power usbc, but highest i can find is 27w, where back in the day some folks had full 100w usbc's
they make easy to recommend boards, not high end ones
i have it as well
Same. I genuinely thought it was my custom adblocking that hides some of the buttons that was fucked up 😄
im more annoyed about clicking thumbnails not navigating to the video
(also seems to be some odd a/b testing either way cause it only doesnt work on my macbook)
Computex 2024 keynotes: How often was “AI” spoken?
🔵 Intel
80x "AI" in 47:18 (1.69 AI/min)
⚫️ Qualcomm
95x "AI" in 78:17 (1.21 AI/min)
🟢 nVidia
126x "AI" in 107:31 (1.17 AI/min)
🔴 AMD
186x "AI" in 79:06 (2.35 AI/min)
AMD does have the largest spread of products for AI
nvidia isn't going for the laptop copilot ai as much and Intel do not have anything near MI300/H100 AI GPU
man nvidia really held back at their apm score
and yet everyone buys novideo cards
intel still has the apm record, tho this is amds new highest apm
well yeah but there's enough marksetshare for everyone
i would tend to doubt nvidia would be willing to bow to use someone elses cpu
they will wait until tegra or whatever is allowed onto WOA
Windows be heading in that direction
ad processes running in kernel space so users cant prevent them
im almost sure youll get lawsuites following that
maybe from the EU but not America
america would make Satya Nadella a chairman of the national board of privacy invasion for that
Wouldn't be the first time there were entirely separate editions either
ads could run in kernel and GPE will still let you disable them so thats not going to happen
gotta need some evidence of that
it's running pretty great for a beta driver
only spotted one minor issue with gnome so far
playing games is just perfect now
supposedly a bunch of stuff had it by now. the NV driver was the last bit that was missing
wait....nvidia on wayland is good now???!!!
and, the newer drivers are open source now too :D
which is fantastic for Wayland devs to bake in fixes
Still, only kernel ones
Long way till we get userspace open-source ones
if the quality stays like this I don't need open ones
True yeah
now, VRR on multiple displays is probably still fucked
I just really like that the AMD drivers are already built into the kernel, so if you have and AMD system, you dont need to install them yourself
oh yeah, Jeff gerling just made a video about this xd
youtube is being so damn slow :/
Raspberry Pi AI enters the chat.
The new AI Kit is $70 and you can find more on Raspberry Pi's website: https://www.raspberrypi.com/news/raspberry-pi-ai-kit-available-now-at-70/

Did he daisy-chained PCIe?
yes, I can confirm it. works very well under gnome especially, even youtube videos sync to it if you fullscreen them
it's almost like you don't need to run something in kernel to make it unkillable
literally just mark a usermode process critical
true
you know the bugcheck code CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED? that's it
@ashen spindle recommended a laptop
I don't know if you can get the current beta driver on anything but third-party arch repos yet
huh what
is that going to be a thing? Steam machines were a huge failure last time around lel
SteamOS is never gonna be a general purpose distro
its specifically built for gaming with controller
if you're gonna go Ubuntu-based, wait till Pop_OS is releasing their next edition. they've been busy working on their own desktop, and I have faith it them that it'll be good
cosmic looks niice
Because everyone has their own ideas of how things should be
but its totally user friendly now
as an arch user myself, could certainly do worse
there is no one vision behind it, it can be best described as a collection of thousands of independent projects
the fact it works at all is a bit mind-boggling to me
I don't understand how one can use Arch on a day to day basis
I set it up once and then it just runs, and runs well
ima be honest arch isnt for everyone
if you want a just works out of the box system with simple gui programs ™️
you're expected to do a lot of the work that's usually the job of the distro maintainers, but then everything is on the wiki
why? I dunno tbh, but in the end the packages are rather up-to-date and it runs pretty well
(unless on KDE, which constantly broke on me)
yea wiki is s tier true, tho no matter what distro i try i always come back to pop in the end
i dont want to bother with setting up stuff haha, it just works so well especially with nvidia for me
my one complaint would be font rendering sucks but nothing else
fonts have been looking exactly like ubuntu for me, since about 2 years
this is what the rendering looks like by default on arch atm
Arch for me just works fine once set up indeed. Same install for better part of a decade, no really issues or rot, just minor cleanup from time to time.
Font rendering depends more on desktop environment and such though.
whenever i use my ipad and phone and look at linux & windows is just such a downgrade
they tried to work with the gnome people, but they are famously morons and told them to do their own desktop, so they did lel
Arch is massively overrated tbh
Distro doesn't matter too much, but arch is what I know and works for me.
if the base distro was crap (ie Manjaro), having the AUR alone would make me consider using it
it even has my favorite audio player from windows, foobar2000
Strawberry
strawberry does the job nicely for me, don't care much for the ui as long as it does what it has to under the hood.
Ah, btw, playing around with compiling OSS stuff didn't result in a lot of results
nothing beats the old v0.9 interface from foobar for me
I do think strawberry could use a nice revamp
you mean Open Sound System?
still perfectly functional:
god based. unfortunately I have only gotten it to compile on very old (4.x-5.x) kernels
You know there are more straightforward methods of torture
BSD systems ship with OSS tho, if you're really curious about it. it was the best sound system linux ever had, and I stand by that
Yeah I used to use OSSv4 back in the day it was p neat
Did it because I wanted per app volume controls and PulseAudio at the time added like a whole second of latency
rarely have I hated an application as much as I did Pulseaudio
I have qualms with it but it's an order of magnitude better than running PA, for sure
the JACK module does not like me especially lol. everything running fine right now, for the first time in a year, and I'm afraid to update it 😛
I should probably freeze these packages at this version, nothing needs to be improved
I watched terminator as a kid but his ai frenzy is not a fun trend
Hope it isn’t like the movies lol
I do see all the cool potential in certain aspects
I love Fedora <3 <3
using it on my laptop fulltime now, and its the only distro other than SolusOS where I trust the GUI software manager enough to do upgrades with
usuallly on Ubuntu and Arch, I run all updates with terminal but on Fedora I stick to the GUI
Attached: 1 image
I was sad to find a surprising lack of visual scripting apps for Linux. Apple's Shortcuts app is very powerful and can be incredibly useful. It's not like we don't have the technical ability to make something similar.
So I started working on one myself :blobfoxfloofcofe:
#Linux #GNOME
but why
I wonder if its possible to run MacOS on the M series iPads?
oh...
id assume they do heavy serial number checking
guessing macOS doesnt support touchscreen natively
like they often do for dev kits
ooh right .-. hardware locking
im not sure how deeply this is integrated into macos now that its their own silicone through and through
id assume its sooner the case you can just add macos apps to iPadOS rather than anything else
they did the same for iOS apps on macOS
you can kinda do touch through sidecar but only with apple pencil on the ipad
but ik thats not directly touch
hmm
If iPads had macos there would be little reason to buy a Mac
iPads are powerful and so much cheaper
Factor in the keyboard being 350 dollars extra, they arent cheaper than a macbook
You can't even touch via vision pro
Get a cheaper keyboard lol, anything Bluetooth works
Nope
On the iPad Pro
Third party Bluetooth keyboard and mice have insane lag issues
Get better ones I guess?
Our logitechs are fine, tho the only folks who have pros are execs and they probably wouldn't notice lag
Would seem strange to me that it would be fine on the regular ipads and busted on the pros
Apple does have their own design for Bluetooth or no?
apple keeb is wired via pads on the back of the ipad
probably qualcomm
oop apparently not, they are broadcom
qualcomm just does the modem
oor not the new ipad pro has an apple chip for wifi
ofc apple sometimes does this where they force a manufacturer to make a custom version of an identical chip but we shall see
1600W wow
i kinda dig it tho
Also
I have an HX1500i, fan only kicks in at like... 700w?
So i'm guessing the fan in thsi won't he very useful unless you pull a huge amount of power
absolutely beautiful
still waiting for an update to the 750 watt Corsair SFX PSU because builds are starting to need more than
If you're wondering i only have an HX1500i because it was on an insanely good sale lol
Coulda gotten by with less
Good lord is that colour ugly. Why is half of the box black
does wooting still have that collaboration with seasonic?
Don't think so? If memory serves it was mainly some help with logistics and funding in the Wooting One days?
Great livestream question if Calder is around
Nah
It just didn't work out and Wooting bought back all of the product stock they had.
I'm still in possession of the seasonic water bottle though
same
basically my daily water bottle
little small for adventuring the entire day but for something you always keep on hand, good size
Unpopular opinion I like the design
Yes I don't mind it either!
Same. It is something different. But don't like the look of the Noctua 4080 tbh
Noctua has personality I like it, even if it doesn't mix in with most things.
better than edgy gamer brand nr 4664577
yo somebody knows shit about pcs? i have got a very specific problem in val idk how to fix it
You can just ask here
val has not been out for long enough for that delay
and presumably you aren't old enough for that delay either
presumibly we all arent
the bezel hate is real.... holy shit https://youtu.be/1vxQeKlMsS4
The Google Pixel 8a’s main appeal is that it's supposed to offer the core Google Pixel experience at a lower price point. Now, the issue a lot of people have with this phone right now is that it’s not actually that much cheaper than the regular Pixel 8. Depending on where you live, you can get the 8 for essentially the same price, which makes th...
if they were all the same width, id be fine with it
but the bottom one is thicker than the others and looks odd
i have no idea how to fix it
it's like 54 years, there probably are some people in here older than that
yeah but still idk how to fix it😂
Only the pixel 5 has the same width bezels and probably newest iPhones with the dynamic island.
interesting read
something something german engineering
in due time it might be evn more interesting
TMR is sort of at the start of its journey
TLDR?
It's a super short article.
companies investigate other novel actuation systems
What is the actual response time of wooting 60he on tachyon mode?
~1ms
isn't 1ms without the tachyon mode?
I mean i't somwhere <1ms but if you want more detailed numbers you'd need some hardware that can test that
post in #1019723042244534282
okok
wooting :D
finally wrangled x265 into pretty good grain preservation at half the bitrate of the original file
for CRF 21, this looks fine to me. it can probably be tuned a little bit more
Really Netflix? Really?
same is true on windows unless you use the windows store app afaik

I love drm
Don't we all?
well shoot
But both Firefox and Chromium support DRM on Linux
oh right thats only true if you have specific hardware
Yeah but it's not good enough
For example on Windows you can't screencapture DRM content
Maybe they don't support the version of widevine Netflix wants or something
The most important word in Linux land is fragmentation so it doesn't surprise me that it only works some of the time lol
linux is for evil hackermen, bindows is for dutiful folk
But yeah, Widevine Content Decryption Module is exactly the same for Win, macOS and Linux
So your distro would basically have to compile everything with full support for DRM (that you can't bypass easily, like screen recording etc), and then have said distro get certified or some shit
that's probably why that is even. afaik, pirates use hardware that was haxxored to dump the streams, maybe they're thinking it's a prophylatic step against piracy
well thats the problem isnt it lol, 720p limit on firefox either way
This why it works nice on ChromeOS because elgoog does all that
Then why it's also on Chrome and Edge?
chrome and edge are different
1080p max for ChromeOS https://help.netflix.com/en/node/30081
remember opera is chromium so it isnt chromium that gets support
Edge supports deeper DRM than other browsers
^
Since it integrates directly with Windows shit for that
And Microsoft controls the whole stack
kernel level anticheat but for TV lol
well thats exactly what it is
Anywho, their "prophylatic step against piracy" didn't work
I go sailing
So yeah DRM is fucking dumb because you can just get a nice file for free that plays in any player no problem
vs jumping through all DRM hoops to get a cruddy stream
*rip blurays of course
most 🏴☠️ content is webrip now
p sure they just network sniff the encrypted content, and then decrypt it somehow
There used to be decryptors, they ripped the user key from browser and used master key ripped directly from Windows
Dunno how it works now
yeah I read that they hax older hardware that supports 1080p to 4k to dump these
you can always trust companies like Sony to have shit security
Or cheap Android TV boxes
cheap android tv boxes cant get 4k either
It's just cracked hdcp right
no, they usually get it at a deeper level
They can get 1080p though, a lot of content is not in 4k anyway, that's enough then
90% of the 4k content is still webrip rather than bluray
same settings at CRF 19
sadly, there are still light halo effects around heads in motion. but it's around half the bitrate, so maybe getting rid of those would be asking too much
wait until you see what mess it is trying to get good sound from netflix, you dont get the same sound depending on where you watch too
I will now
something something pirates are dissatisfied customers
I mean depending on what you get even that is a mess audio wise if you want the good dolby setup or something
I'm happy with left and right audio channel
a demo of Cosmic Files from main as for today, before the the Gnome Vs Cosmic upload :) #cosmic #design #files
hmmm, this is ugly af
the color border is nice but id cut it down to 1 pixel or 2 maybe
the border is because of the tiling system to outline the focused window
but it remains if you turn tiling off
also i just dont think thats a good color combination of gray and blue
the color changes by the accent color you pick
Kinda looks like illegitimate child of Gnome File Explorer
oh
yeh ...
i like file explorer
I think for the most part dolphin is fine, just wish it had better keyboard / touch screen controls.
I like the new User Folder icons in Windows 11
and the new ribbon replacement ui also
I like Dolphin, for the most part
The most annoying thing is when you suddenly unplug USB drive or unmount network drive, or better yet, suddenly disconnect ftp share, it panics and more often than not crashes taking the whole Plasma along
oh, never had that happen for usb drives
Cosmic file explorer looks like what it is, something that ain't close to finished yet. but the baseline looks alright
yeh for sure, the ui needs some rearranging xd
lots of wasted space in the headerbar up top
You can - either by tricking dolphin there's no SUDO_USER sudo SUDO_USER= dolphin or through su
Or recommended way - by using kio-admin
.......wack
su - to be specific, so that so env won't come through
Asus: Doubles the battery life and charging speed on the new Ally X
Also Asus: Doesnt provide a charger that can charge the Ally X at this new faster speed
🤦♀️
it can charge at 100W now but the included charger is just 65W or so
100W? Toasty
You don't get a charger, you can't cook your SDs anymore... is it really an upgrade?
Good blanket warmer
Generally though you should not want to run dolphin as sudo
You shouldn't want to do so with any file manager

looks nicee
Interesting
looks like a speaker
Yeah
I like speakers
we've come far from the days of apple trash can
65W is already pretty fast.
yeah 100W is closing in on dGPU territory
all you are getting is slightly faster charging from 0%-50%
and a lot of extra heat
what ones? XD
It's that another case of "Valve does nothing, competition keeps shooting themselves in the foot"?
YEAH LOL RIGHT
- how is there any chance of the first Claw selling nearly enough units to warrant another one
- did marketing smoke crack
- There is not
- Most certainly
They're putting Lunar Lake chip in there
Of course marketing would go haywire with AI
Yeh .-.
i wonder what msi ai per min stats are
I wonder if that Lunar Lake can even match Z1 Extreme
allegedly it has way way better low power effenciency
2022 - Steam Deck
2023 - Steam Deck OLED, Asus Ally
2024 - MSI CLAW 8 AI COPILOT PLUS HANDHELD PC
I'm crying
M S I
.....I lost many brain cells reading this
Please, AI bubble, burst already
PLEASE
Never
i dont mind ai just dont advertise it to this extent imo
It's just bunch of weighted linear interpolators processing natural language packed into a model
Calling it AI is way too big of a stretch
But it's marketable, so there it is
yea personally i find most of these features to be just gimmicks
but maybe others think theyre okay
Today my team leader's boss asked if we could look into integrating AI into what we do to be more efficient 💀
made me die inside a bit
.-.
what do you do
hope you asked him if said efficiency would have resulted in better wages
for him yes

Glorified search engine and image generator, that's what it is
We could be using those models for automating so many menial tasks
For example analyze shopping list, look around the stores near me and calculate the most optimal route, given prices, traffic etc.
It should solve tedious tasks to leave people space for creativity, instead it solves creative tasks, leaving people everything tedious
I thought networking was when you pretend to listen on meetings with other groups
no
:(
different kind of network lmao
traffic and optimal route should best be calculated with quantum computers
but good point otherwise
msi did pay like nothing for the chips in the first claw intel just threw that at them
so now its refresh with a much better SoC
so naming aside there isn't really a point making fun of it when it seems to be a solid upgrade
How much is much better
Last 2-3 Intel gens "much better" was not that much better at all
Imma wait for benchmarks
in terms of specs it sounds pretty decent but i'd like to see it compared to deck and the others before im fully convinced
tf is that
work
WORK HARDER MEAT SLAVE HOHOHO
your boss needs another yacht
why is there not option for longer than usual poop hard to cut
I wonder waht program is that, calls up
thas the correct thing to do
Oh yeah
Yesterday networking team has set rules on firewall to block some of the sites, so we "can focus on work better"
It's like they forgot we have root access to firewall hosts
That is a nice looking booth
wooting is one of the oddballs without ai at computex this year
Ah, that's why there's new MCU in 80HE
"another hard day of work" they think
does it have the mandated 40 tflops npu ™️
I know right!
I can make it hard for them
So clean
argh units need a protected half space
Id buy an uwu there
owo
g502x my beloved

Last time they tried something like that I "accidentally" cut off their access to the server
Told them to ask technician responsible for the host to fix it
While being a technician responsible for this host
I'm just glad the team still acknowledge their roots (Wooting One)
That or wooting simply does not have enough keyboards to otherwise fill the rack.
no thats e core vs lp e core of previous gen
and just in fp not in int
aka not relevant anyway because who cares about performance vs lp e cores
What on earth is that.
raspberry-pi enclosure
That's adorable.
this my just be me but my wooting keys sometimes dont even register like P, A and M most recently happened and sometimes just buggs out in general
any help how to fix it
how much you even bet on that
post in #1019755933959733258
done
Too bad all of my Adobe software doesn't have online access.
this message was brought to you by piracy
only good adobe products are cracked adobe products

what’s some good mousepads?
This Recall thing is a prime example of how bad we are at understanding when something is a systemic problem.
It doesn't matter if you disable it. It doesn't matter if you install Linux. It doesn't matter if you set your computer on fire and move to a Luddite commune.
If you have ever sent sensitive data, no matter how securely, to ano...
Tmw a dude in a server im in upgraded from a 3060 to a 3090 for 1080p gaming... dude won't even turn on xmp on his pc because he's "scared of overclocking"
💀🔫
- he mostly plays old games
i wonder what type of memory he bought
steal an 80he for me

"Borrow"
cant wait for the head of CS to make a single promise and get fired 3 months later
LOL. With the motherboard scandal the PR guy that GN worked with went to another company like 3 months later.
I don’t remember their official title but the guy worked with the media.
so fresh and so clean
It's essentially a Windows task focused ChatGPT
Hey Siri, summarize these notes for me pronto
A moebius strip looks like a paperclip?
a moebius strip after it came out of the hydraulic press
also i this even a moebius strip?
twists twice, right?
I thought this was the logo ngl 😄
it was
Looks like one to me 😄
was changed last year

tmw nerds at work have a linux talk on what DE is better
if you count macos as a distro then i’m onboard
acceptable
I know for sure, that we are inevitably coming to a cyberpunk-like dystopia
The problem is, that it's fucking boring
So I wouldn't count on year of Linux desktop anytime soon... if at all
the worst dystopia
everything just turns to shit but none of the cool stuff happens
manmade horros in our comprehension
maybe if linux ever leaves the early 00s in terms of user friendlyness
🤨
we are so fucked

Wait it was added to all machines?
some files were found in an update
im moreso talking about kids being fine with it cause they are scatterbrained and too dumb to organize their files
Oh ye I gathered that
microsoft really setting up that win10 -> mint pipeline
Which I agree we are doomed
can someone tell me what is recall
windows takes snapshots very often and you can talk to copilot and it can tell you things like what you did, and stuff like that
it lets the ai "recall" what you did
and yes that does include screenshots of when you enter banking paswords and everything
Example
Me: Hey co pilot what’s my bank information?
Hacker: what’s this guys bank information co pilot? 😏
It creates vulnerabilities unnecessarily
is supposedly work locally. for now
Yeah, I still see many ways hackers could use that though.
I even expect it to stay locally but it also saves stuff like passwords from a password manager that those autodelete from memory
well, assuming its in plain text visible somewhere
Meanwhile in an Indian callcenter remotely connected to your desktop
it is certainly not directly making everyone lose their bank data but it certainly provides a lot more possibilites to abuse a pc access
true
also your friendly three letter agency or police and such
dont worry they only want your best to catch the terrorists
I mean it's an encrypted sqlite database... that get unencrypted as you login, it require admin right to acces buuuttt is there someone that even read the elevation prompt then click on yes ? 99.9999% of people just do the same as they install an app : "next next next done wait why it installed 2 apps let run it again"
I mean if you have someone from those on your pc they already get more info than recall can collect
i mean more incidentally
they always find a way to strip privacy
I mean im still not sure how this changes something aside from like they get a warrant and check your pc and it was active I guess
Literally 😭
Walking in with a warranty and quietly grabbing your info is a pretty big difference overall.
yes but usually thats not what the three letter agencies handle anyway
i get the appeal of copilot, i mean if it’s purely opt in and stays local it’s fine to me. my issue is if they send this to the cloud
I mean if its not for some random gangster which the police shadow they are looking at bigger things where you want a inside man or trojan or something on important hardware anyway
Of course the CIA says they don't operate domestically, but everyone knows that's a big fat lie. And the letters hate working together, because why would you do such a weird thing 😄
Of course people click through everything without reading
I was making installer for several of our company apps
By popular demand I had to include permission escalation, because people were too lazy to run it as Administrator
And then just installed everything by pressing next, next, next... not reading at all what's happening on screen
think it will cause more deaths in something like arabic countries when a child looks up not straight porn and the parents find out than it changes for any big criminal heists but preferably we'd just not have it at all
Same here x) As long as your app seems legit or that a superior authority tell people to do it people will do, then only thinks about what they just did
But now it's just a waiting game, either they succed to make it really secure and convice people to turn it on (even if rn it on by default) either the backlash will be so massive and they will recall the recall 😉 (if they still have some integrity but that yet to be determined)
after they proposed that whole thingy
I am not touching win 11 ever again, uninstalling it from the laptop I got recently
and after win10 eol going to linux
I suggest Fedora 💜
I love it so damn much
think its a bit pointless to look at what to do in some years since lots can change till then
Few years?
Windows 10 goes EoL this year
eol for win 10 is getting quite close
its oktober next year for non LTSC
and no more updates doesnt mean it breaks the day after
What does the C in that acronym mean?
Switched long ago and only use some windows vm for the last apps~app (Logitech...) that is not compatible with linux, everything bloomed last years thant to steam effort mostly, there no way i'll ever comeback to windows now
Channel
i got a popup on my windows, somesomething 2025
You need Logitech app for the mouse?
Try Piper!
- october 25
we switching to windows 11 at work can't wait for that headache
Aha
thats still very far away
yes
I can't wait for the security and privacy issues that Recall causes in workplaces
Leaking closed source code is the biggest one
Yep for the mouse got that but for the headset unfortunately nothing yet, but i mostly pop the vm for firmware update only
I mean if your IT is incompetent and doesnt disable that via GPE
Or credentials to a database
also how would it leak anything by just existing
Oohhhh
It packs that shit up into a nice little package for targeting phishing attacks to scoop up
you still need someone to access your pc for it to cause any harm and the chance you otherwise would not have leaked anything is tiny
if someone has local access to one of our computers we already got a big problem
Our Windows team wants for everyone to use it, say it'll "improve our workspace"
fair, if IT is incompetent or gets overruled
If IT is incompetent juste make a background with internal passwords do some action and revert, watch chaos ensue
like I cant wait for the first "leak via recall" to appears as news headline
and it turns out they had full remote access anyway
It'll happen fast
so that recall didnt matter
This is a huge huge huge problem for banks
Yeah
Ofc it they use a rat Recall won't matter
because I am very certain it will not be fast that we get a big leak where it's only because of recall
Nah
The bank I use appears to still use XP
:/ which is worse
is it connected to the internet?
I think so
Had to use the website on it to register my phone app to my bank account
Most American banks use windows 10
Hopefully it was XP SP2+
Yeah....
I'm gonna call a big doubt on xp being exposed directly to the internet and not for internal if at all
Maybe it was an internal network
Idk
But if definitely loaded the banks website
At least not intentionally...but you know companies 😄
As long as you have SP2 or SP3 installed it's ok to connect it to the Internet
Well, and disabled SMBv1 in open network
I mean did not heard from it lately but do bank still pay fines cause they still did not implemented the new securities to "detect" the top end fraud in their cobol
Oh yeah....
Cobol
.-.
Iunno, I know for sure we have few VMware VMs still running XP for some business clients
Wtf could possibly still need xp these days?
Industrial machines - The kind with proprietary software made on order, with a price tag of 6 figures to retool for a newer OS and zero gains.
Actually
That reminds me of a particular webpage on my college website that would only work on Microsoft Edge
....the old non-Chromium version
There's a reason why you can buy prebuilt XP machines in 2024.
7 was the last good version of Windows
must be tough these days with current hardware
Too much ram
64bit
Unsupported graphics cards
2000 was the last good version
And also why our C-suite decided we'll be migrating with as much as possible to open-source solutions, because migrating proprietary stuff* from old Debians and Win XP was painful to say the least
..... Y'all moved from Linux to Windows and now wanna go back to Linux?
actually.. im completely fine with win10.. it launches games just fine
LG’s verison is probably a safer bet
what else does one use windows for
Yeah
Just install shut up 10 and keep a constant check on your settings to make sure they dont get automatically re enabled when the system updates
AW2723DF - beautiful screen, but oh boy, does HDR sucks on it
generally use windows for software that isn't available on other platforms
like games
hey new spam for once
Ugh another bot
bro wanted the free nitro
Self reported themselves into horny jail
if you're waiting much longer end of next year we get this
Maybe fell for the "I reported you by accident, please swap your account to this email address so you don't get banned" scam
I think I got rid of all messages
Yay
Discord search sucks
Discord sucks
doesnt it auto delete if you ban them?
Can't wait for the inevitable enshittification
i hope the curve isn’t too aggressive on the 34” would be nice
i don't have ban privileges
ahh

its not about it breaking, I bet people will try to find, or maybe already have found sec vulnerabilities for win10 and are sitting on them
not many people wanna go to win11
Can you mute/time out people?
what settings would i change on a game machine?
none
Yup, just not kick/ban
oh I know but its not like the day after it becomes botnet infested, and big things they patch even after EOL because companies and governments get mad
yea true that, still
I'd rather not stick around for much longer
as time goes I have less and less trust in microsoft
yeah fair, but its still a long time and stuff can change till then
like they could extend eol or such
they'd have to change tremendously
Disable bloatware
Disable all the useless background processes to gain performance
Block the popup alerts about rebooting for an update
Disable Windows updater from installing graphics drivers
Could go on but I forgot the others
oh yeah eol could get extended, they have done that before
but it will end at some point
I wouldnt be too surprised if they dont extend it however
Disable bloatware
Disable all the useless background processes to gain performance
I have a not very old pc so these things dont even cause one fps gain for me
They do make a small difference on my GTX 1660 PC
gpu doesnt really matter for that but thats beside the point
Updates are good
Just not the automatic ones
the only time i see anything about a windows update is when im shutting down/rebooting
me when people at work complain apps don't work when their uptime has been 30+ days
Yeah,
i make them semiautomatic :)
I always keep it updated
Pew pew
I always update when there's one available on any OS I use
80€ for a cpu and 60€ for a mainboard and you have hardware that is good enough that windows background processes doesnt really affect fps so you dont need to change those and thus not look out for it reverting
found having a lot of ram helps with that too
I haven’t updated in a year because I have too many things open that I’m working on, that I dont want to close cause if I do, I forget T_T
SSD is more important than CPU tbh
Windows chokes on HDD
who running their OS on a HDD in 2024
Cheap laptops mostly
well as it was about win10 for gaming machines and drakonen said for those you dont need to change anything I was just looking at that, if you have it just for gaming you dont need to change anything as he said and not lose out thus
if you work and have something in progress on it thats different ofc
Many people actually
even cheap laptops will sometimes use stupidly small sd-card like drives instead of hdds
Well yea, it doesn't get even close to as many updates as it used to
but hdds on a new laptop today?
yeah even $100 chromebooks are on eMMC
Very cheap ones? Yeah
Either big HDD or very tiny and very cheap SATA SSD
cheapest laptop i can find here in portugal is 180 euro and has a 128gb ssd
hdd makes less sense on laptops than cheap prebuilts too because power usage + moving parts
Anywho, HDD experience on W10/11 is a tragedy
Even cheap SATA SSD are quite shit there, OS can freeze because of IOPS
ehh cheap sata SSD is quite fine on w10 these days
O o
Even most 400 Euro laptops here use HDD or emmc
my main drive died in my laptop so I got cheapest kyoxia one I could find to replace it
#IrishProblems
Very much so
i can't find a single laptop without either an ssd or emmc
