Most likely the same

Also ryzen 3 is long dead

#

Long live ryzen 3

ashen spindle
#

unlike the dual ccd chips both the 9700x and 9600x have 100mhz boost above their zen4 counterpart so the 9700x is just the new name for the regular die 1ccd solution

astral haven
#

But they are still 300 MHz behind the dual ccds

analog sinew
gusty kiln
#

Was the 7700X the best gaming cpu after the x3d chips or was that a fluke?

#

I remember early benchmarks had it beating the 7950x in csgo/val

gusty kiln
#

Barely existed

ashen spindle
#

think it was a tossup based on how games accesed cores on the second chiplet

gentle osprey
#

Yeah something to do with dual ccd latency on games vs single ccd

astral haven
#

in the highly memory bound games the 3300x was competing with intels speedy bois at the time, tho it was pretty much only in sotr and csgo

gusty kiln
ashen spindle
#

yea

astral haven
#

oh i see yea im bad at reading

#

the 7700x cant win against a "game mode" 7950x if that was even still a thing

ashen spindle
#

yeah not counting disabling one ccd

#

but either way its a lot closer than on intel since the per core caches arent gimped on the lower tier

astral haven
#

sure but intel was also faster in general excluding the x3d, and the x3d kinda just dominates all

#

x3d has been pretty much sitting at the middle of next gen on average

ashen spindle
#

might even be a bit better this time around

#

but thats too wild speculation for now till we get some uarch confirmation when the stuff is fully launched

Seasonic and Noctua team up for flagship PSU design Available in Q4.  Spotted on the Computex 2024 show floor just before the event officially kicks off is Seasonic’s new power supply. Alright time to watch what intel showed this morning, looks like lunar lake for laptop is nice and the server products are an entire generation behind now lol

steep creek

aha it seems lunar lake is using tsmc?

ashen spindle

yeah its fully tsmc

just like some ARL versions

steep creek

interesting

ashen spindle

oh yeah @fickle ore first lion cove is tsmc just like you will see on desktop for some parts since thats what ARL also uses

steep creek

intel roadmap looks exciting now, especially compared to m#

ashen spindle

ehh somewhat

really depends how it shapes up

if we get panther lake on desktop or if its just a repeat of MTL and we only get ARL refresh

ashen spindle

its the 64c/128c epyc

its 128t vs 128t

crimson wigeon

old marlin

ashen spindle

yeah and it failed at its key point havo

#

oh and e cores also still dont have avx512 even on servers

old marlin
#

yup

old marlin
#

they prob wouldn't be so e if they had

sudden imp
#

Do you guys think intel will even be able to compete with nvidia?

ashen spindle
#

lol no

old marlin
#

not with next gen

sudden imp
#

Figured lol

old marlin
#

well

#

just performance wise

ashen spindle
#

neither in dgpu nor in data center for at least the next 2 generations

old marlin
#

depending on how decent the next gen is they might be a good deal wher they end up sitting at

#

but also still not mature hardware or drivers

ashen spindle
#

for consumers maybe but that would be just if they offer it way too cheap like they do with arc

#

so the competition comes from cutting margins down which isnt sustainable forever

old marlin
#

yea basically

sudden imp
#

I hope options will be available that do really compete.

ashen spindle
#

for which segment

sudden imp
#

Gpu’s

#

Nvidia most likely won’t bring down prices even if competition exists.

ashen spindle
#

well certainly not at the high end for a good while

old marlin
#

what segment in gpus KEKW

#

that ranges from like 50$ gt710s to datacenter gpus that costs hundreds of thousands

sudden imp
#

Consumer

old marlin
#

that still is from 50 dollars to like 1500

sudden imp
#

Yea doesn’t narrow it at all lol

#

It’s all over priced on nvidias end

#

I did see intel will be producing nvidias chips in its fab though. I’m thinking intel may learn something from this and use said knowledge in their gpus.

ashen spindle
#

well, except they arent xD

sudden imp
#

What do you mean?

ashen spindle
#

the only thing made by nvidia on intel is their arm cpus for servers and maybe some packaging

#

not gpus, and even if they ever move gpus to intel they can never use that to improve intel gpus because that would be corporate espionage

sudden imp
#

That’s probably true even if they did do it I don’t think intel wants the lawsuit.

halcyon moss
#

Intel is already somewhat competitive in the midrange

ashen spindle
#

yesnt

#

for consumers yes because its extremely subsidized

which as consumer doesnt matter in the moment but matter when thinking how it looks like in the future

analog sinew

but muh ceiling

i'll also see what a used block is worth ig

gusty kiln
#

The only thing intel got going for them are the accelerators on the cpu

#

But dunno how relevant they are to most datacenter

astral haven
#

and even then amd has avx512

#

only reason to go for intel in the DC is for QAT

#

or if your dc is tiny and you want a small cheap chip

ashen spindle
#

yeah sienna doesnt have anything for QAT and if we get turin ai which would fill that void is uncertain atm

#

amd could hit 50% data center share in 2025 lol

astral haven
#

yea xylinx has the qat acceleration in the nics themselves, so i dont expect amd to integrate them into their non router cpus

but yea it aint pretty

halcyon moss
#

Conclusion is somewhat positive though

astral haven
#

ofc, these cpus are good for server operators, intel is gonna have to sell them for rather cheap and they can run a ton of vms

ashen spindle
#

yeah, positive compared to the product from 2 years ago xD

#

this isnt the new amd options that just got announced too

#

so for like a few weeks where those aren't in general availability and you are too small of a company to get early sampling it is an okay-ish option

gusty kiln
#

they are now only 1 gen behind AMD

#

except for AVX512 still like 2-3 gen behind

ashen spindle
#

yeah except the next gen CWF isn't even using the e cores that just got shown in lunar lake

gusty kiln
#

So much lower core count?

ashen spindle

next gen is not increasing core performance much, probably same core count but thats halfway into the life of turin dense and closer to venice then

But both Firefox and Chromium support DRM on Linux pepecry

oh right thats only true if you have specific hardware

crimson wigeon
#

Yeah but it's not good enough

astral haven
#

intel igpu requirement afaik

#

otherwise you still get 720p

crimson wigeon
#

For example on Windows you can't screencapture DRM content

loud hemlock
#

Maybe they don't support the version of widevine Netflix wants or something

umbral heron
#

afaik everything is on par with Windows since last year

loud hemlock
#

The most important word in Linux land is fragmentation so it doesn't surprise me that it only works some of the time lol

smoky frigate
#

linux is for evil hackermen, bindows is for dutiful folk

umbral heron
#

But yeah, Widevine Content Decryption Module is exactly the same for Win, macOS and Linux duck_sip

crimson wigeon
#

So your distro would basically have to compile everything with full support for DRM (that you can't bypass easily, like screen recording etc), and then have said distro get certified or some shit

smoky frigate
#

that's probably why that is even. afaik, pirates use hardware that was haxxored to dump the streams, maybe they're thinking it's a prophylatic step against piracy

astral haven
crimson wigeon
#

This why it works nice on ChromeOS because elgoog does all that

umbral heron

Then why it's also on Chrome and Edge? pepecry

chrome and edge are different

remember opera is chromium so it isnt chromium that gets support

Edge supports deeper DRM than other browsers

And Microsoft controls the whole stack

astral haven

well thats exactly what it is

umbral heron
#

Anywho, their "prophylatic step against piracy" didn't work
I go sailing

crimson wigeon

loud hemlock

astral haven
#

most 🏴‍☠️ content is webrip now

#

p sure they just network sniff the encrypted content, and then decrypt it somehow

umbral heron

There used to be decryptors, they ripped the user key from browser and used master key ripped directly from Windows
Dunno how it works now

smoky frigate
#

yeah I read that they hax older hardware that supports 1080p to 4k to dump these

you can always trust companies like Sony to have shit security

umbral heron

They can get 1080p though, a lot of content is not in 4k anyway, that's enough then

astral haven
#

90% of the 4k content is still webrip rather than bluray

....the old non-Chromium version

There's a reason why you can buy prebuilt XP machines in 2024.

umbral heron

And also why our C-suite decided we'll be migrating with as much as possible to open-source solutions, because migrating proprietary stuff* from old Debians and Win XP was painful to say the least

wheat plume

..... Y'all moved from Linux to Windows and now wanna go back to Linux?

halcyon moss

I'd rather not stick around for much longer

#

as time goes I have less and less trust in microsoft

ashen spindle
#

yeah fair, but its still a long time and stuff can change till then

#

like they could extend eol or such

misty matrix
#

they'd have to change tremendously

wheat plume
misty matrix
#

oh yeah eol could get extended, they have done that before

#

but it will end at some point

#

I wouldnt be too surprised if they dont extend it however

ashen spindle

Disable bloatware
Disable all the useless background processes to gain performance
I have a not very old pc so these things dont even cause one fps gain for me

wheat plume
#

They do make a small difference on my GTX 1660 PC

ashen spindle
#

gpu doesnt really matter for that but thats beside the point

halcyon moss
#

no issues here with those settings at all

#

and fucking update your windows lana

umbral heron
#

Updates are good
Just not the automatic ones

halcyon moss

the only time i see anything about a windows update is when im shutting down/rebooting

I always update when there's one available on any OS I use

umbral heron
#

I update like once or twice a week PeepoShrug

#

It literally takes 15~30 seconds

ashen spindle
#

80€ for a cpu and 60€ for a mainboard and you have hardware that is good enough that windows background processes doesnt really affect fps so you dont need to change those and thus not look out for it reverting

lyric hatch

found having a lot of ram helps with that too pepematrix

umbral heron

Cheap laptops mostly

ashen spindle
#

well as it was about win10 for gaming machines and drakonen said for those you dont need to change anything I was just looking at that, if you have it just for gaming you dont need to change anything as he said and not lose out thus

#

if you work and have something in progress on it thats different ofc

wheat plume
loud hemlock

even cheap laptops will sometimes use stupidly small sd-card like drives instead of hdds

umbral heron
loud hemlock

but hdds on a new laptop today?

lyric hatch
#

yeah even $100 chromebooks are on eMMC

umbral heron
#

Very cheap ones? Yeah
Either big HDD or very tiny and very cheap SATA SSD

loud hemlock
#

cheapest laptop i can find here in portugal is 180 euro and has a 128gb ssd

#

hdd makes less sense on laptops than cheap prebuilts too because power usage + moving parts

umbral heron
#

Anywho, HDD experience on W10/11 is a tragedy
Even cheap SATA SSD are quite shit there, OS can freeze because of IOPS duck_sip

frozen ingot
#

ehh cheap sata SSD is quite fine on w10 these days

wheat plume
#

Even most 400 Euro laptops here use HDD or emmc

my main drive died in my laptop so I got cheapest kyoxia one I could find to replace it
