the steamdeck isnt really that heavy, in fact the OLED is only 120g heavier than the ps portal

#

plus the steamdeck is larger, so that weight is going to be distributed more

astral haven
lyric hatch
#

I guess if you already own a ps5 which I'd say most people on this discord would not

wheat plume
#

The OLED Deck is literally so light it feels like holding a kid's toy

#

It feels like it should be hollow inside

marsh pewter
#

I wouldnt exactly call it light, but yeah it really doesnt feel that heavy at all

astral haven
#

have you tried using it for extended periods of time?

#

its a real problem

marsh pewter
#

yes

#

I have

wheat plume
#

When I had my Switch
My hands hurt after about an hour of holding and gaming on it

I can hold the Deck as long as the battery can last if I wanted to

marsh pewter
#

it can feel a bit uncomfortable after a while of use, but in most cases the weight doesnt really stick out to me as being that big of an issue

wheat plume
#

The weight of the device doesn't matter if the grip isn't comfortable

The Switch is proof of that

astral haven
#

are you talking about handholding it, or using it while its resting on something

wheat plume
#

Light console
Hurts to hold for long

wheat plume
marsh pewter
#

now, this can vary from person to person and I can totally get how it can be too heavy for some

ashen spindle
#

just because the switch has enough factors that make people be okay with an issue, doesn't mean its not an issue though

lyric hatch
#

It's 640 grams time to hit the gym

marsh pewter
#

again, the PS portal really isnt much lighter

astral haven
#

my experience mixed with the incredible amount of complaints about the deck ergonomics makes it hard to believe you are telling the complete truth

marsh pewter
#

really you've heard complaints about the deck's ergonomics?

wheat plume
#

Who the fuck is complaining about the Decks ergonomics?

lyric hatch
#

The people I know who own a steam deck love it, I haven't heard any complaints

wheat plume
#

Yeah...even reviews who hate other aspects of the Deck love the ergonomics of it

marsh pewter
#

most of the people I've talked to say it has some of the best ergonomics of a handheld and even controllers in general.

astral haven
#

i love the steam deck too
the ergonomics are still shit

wheat plume
#

Wat

#

???

#

I've never seen anyone complain about that aspect of the Deck

astral haven
#

I dont remember a review that said it was light enough to use without resting on something

wheat plume
#

Weight alone != Ergonomics

#

The grip comfort is also a factor

marsh pewter
#

personally I think the deck's ergonomics are amazing, especially compared to competitors.

wheat plume
#

While the Nintendo Switch is lighter
It's also flat and sucks to grip onto for long sessions

#

Worse ergonomics than deck

astral haven
#

just because the more popular cheaper option is worse doesnt make it ok

ashen spindle
#

theres definitely people on the deck reddit alone that say its not great for them to hold for one reason or another, they are not the majority but it's not hard to find

wheat plume
#

You don't see people buying third party grips for the Deck to make the grip feel better

astral haven
#

the ergonomics are not just the grip lol

wheat plume
#

Yeh
But it's not just weight like you are implying either

astral haven
#

what makes you think i was implying that?

#

I have no idea

astral haven
wheat plume

Cause you think ergonomics = weight

#

I'm trying to say it's also about how it feels to grip

astral haven

Yes
It is wrong

ionic walrus

I was agreeing that this statement is wrong

since you know we agree that ergonomics and weight are not the same thing

astral haven

astral haven
#

again wrong

ashen spindle

he replied to someone talking about the weight with just the weight discussion, that doesnt mean weight= ergonomics

wheat plume

Your very first message about the deck ergonomics only ever mentions weight

astral haven

What's wrong with the steam decks ergo

#

It's great

lyric hatch
#

I'm a big guy though

astral haven

Let's be clear, Im not saying any of what we currently call handheld are better, they are all bad, I'm just saying steam deck could be better

In terms of what though the ps portal which has barely any internal hardware

The rumours Google are going to kill Youtube Music worry me

#

I cant move to Spotify cause a lot of the songs in my playlist are not on there

wheat plume
#

I literally cannot

sweet cairn
#

If they kill youtube music they better make youtube premium cheaper

wheat plume
#

^

#

yeah

#

for sure

#

but I doubt they will

sweet cairn
#

I also am pressing X to doubt

ashen spindle
#

I also doubt some random rumor about them shutting it down will happen

wheat plume
#

This is Google...they kill like 80% of the shit they release

ashen spindle
#

doesnt give any more credit to some rumour from who knows where

marsh pewter
#

I doubt google is going to kill youtube music

sweet cairn
#

google is king of shutting down random services

astral haven
#

its not random what they shut down

wheat plume
#

The only evidence to point they WONT kill it is that they merged the Podcast app into YT Music

sweet cairn
#

well obviously they aren't throwing a dice and shutting something down bro

wheat plume
#

Google are stuck in a loop for their new services

#

no one wants to use them cause they suspect itll be killed fairly shortly afterwards
it does get killed fairly shortly afterwards cause no one uses it

marsh pewter
#

yt music has been highly intregrated into everything else

wheat plume
#

Yeah, I know

marsh pewter
#

like shorts for example

wheat plume
#

google nest especially

marsh pewter
#

its very unlikely it shuts down

wheat plume
#

all assistant hardware uses YT Music

#

but other than that, a lot of people just play music via the regular YT app for some reason

sweet cairn
#

I remember when Google reassured us that stadia wasn't shutting down and then they shut it down shortly after

wheat plume
#

idk why but they do

sweet cairn
#

So I don't trust em because it's clear one hand isn't talking to the other.

wheat plume
#

yeh... YT Music is ingrained into many products they offer, so probably its safe

#

Though they laid off a lot of the dev team for YT Music recently :/

#

Most people ive seen seem to hate youtube music

#

even a lot of tech sites out there

marsh pewter
#

yeah I'd say its pretty high up there for music streaming imo

#

it has a lot of songs that most of the competitors dont have

#

plus its free

#

and doesnt have ads? not sure tho.

wheat plume
#

I only consider it free on desktop

#

the mobile app is basically un-usable without premium

#

just like how the Spotify mobile app is not usable without premium

astral haven
#

revanced lol

wheat plume
#

^

astral haven
sweet cairn
#

Just because they integrated YT music into stuff doesn't mean it's safe.

astral haven
#

but you have to look at what the google graveyard contains
its mostly stuff that doesnt make or loses money

sweet cairn
#

Having said that, I have no real opinion on the matter. I don't know anything about YT music nor do I care.

astral haven
#

if you have a product like music that actually makes money, its harder to shut down

wheat plume
#

Does YT Music make them money?????

astral haven
#

i use it, its definetly got the least broken recommender engine for me who gets bored of music incredibly fast

sweet cairn
#

But google does have a dicey track record with things is all I am pointing out.,

wheat plume
#

Everyone seems to hate it

#

or use youtube to play music

astral haven
wheat plume
#

🤔 aha

astral haven
#

and often its stuff that is competing with other google products, and they just trash the one that makes less money

wheat plume
#

most shit was not widely used cause people are too scared to use something they think will be killed randomly in the future

astral haven
#

nah

#

most of the google graveyard is just stuff that noone knew about and noone cared about

wheat plume
#

fair

astral haven
#

its rather rare that google kills something "popular"
and tha "popular" stuff is usually in 5th place in a duopoly

1 poll is visualized as pc to device to pc, and this occurs *UP TO 8,000 times in 1 second between the pc and the 80HE

#

as explained in 80HE channel

#

please correct if wrong

steep creek
#

yea one poll can occur every 1 / 8000 seconds

astral haven
#

this can occur 8000 times per second
it usually wont

steep creek

do you mean just the definition of a poll?

steep creek

uh way i see it is, its one data transmission cycle

reef patrol
#

Hello, do you have data for me?
Here is the latest data.
Thank you.

steep creek
#

basically

trim crane
#

1 poll-
PC: you got anything?
KB; yes/no
PC: thanks

#

yeyeye

reef patrol
#

If polling is higher than scanning rate, you will end up receiving duplicate data.
This is why real enthusiasts consider "8khz polling" a major meme, if scanning doesn't follow along 😄

trim crane
#

in the case of HE is a bit different, as mansen said it would be more like "heres the latest data" especially in analog mode

#

but still that sounds like it applies to a digital signal too

fickle ore
#

Try overflooding 8khz poll rate you wombats

trim crane
steep creek
#

with analog its kinda the same except you just run it through an adc to get the digital value

reef patrol
#

If your hardware only checks internally for new values (scanning) 1000 times a second, but your PC is asking 8000 times, then it's going to be repeating yourself a bit.

#

One might say it's the USB equivalent of ARE WE THERE YET dogenek

steep creek
#

sorry aero i wish i could explain more but something came up, have to go

trim crane
trim crane
#

real

trim crane
#

now the scanning I suppose

shrewd cipher
#

Am i blue yet? :V

#

No 😦

trim crane
#

1 scan cycle is scanning all 88? keys on the 80HE

trim crane
#

does scan rate fluctuate or does it stay at a fixed value?

#

polling does fluctuate I know, but scanning

shrewd cipher
#

It scans every key 8k times, i thinks its fixed

trim crane
#

i mean it sounds right

shrewd cipher
#

Since they say true 8k polling, the internal scan and communication to the pc should be 8khz

trim crane
#

they are

#

but I was wondering if the scan value was a fixed value that synchronizes to the desired polling, or does it always fluctuate

#

thats something I would like to know

shrewd cipher
#

On the mouse it depends on the ammount of data transmitted, on the kb it should hold the 8khz without input

#

It will always fluctuate a little

trim crane
#

yeah that makes sense

#

for example the OP1 8k might have the least of that fluctuation if on 8k

#

enough about my tangent on mice tho

#

keyboard polling does behave a bit differently due to the nature of them

shrewd cipher
#

A mouse has a lot of fluctuation, if ya dont move it, its barely pushing any hz, if ya move it with medium speed it might peak to 2khz and if you are fast on a high sens it may peak to 8khz

trim crane
#

ye

shrewd cipher
#

I tested it on mine, 26.000 DPI and fast movement let it peak to 8k

#

But most ppl may only reach 4khz on normal use

trim crane
#

i usuallly sstill play on 1k

#

oh and theres another thing

shrewd cipher

trim crane

ok

#

and there's multiple keys per usb report

so you could ssend more than 1 input at the exact ssame poll?

astral haven

Is the UK included in the side loading?

yea and how about switzerland?

wheat plume
#

Idk

steep creek
#

Nop only European Union member countries

astral haven
#

did apple actually not allow it or is that just the ruling

steep creek
#

I believe that’s the ruling

astral haven
#

if apple actually prevents the swiss and the brits from sideloading that would just be sad

steep creek
#

They prevent us from side loading as well

astral haven
#

"Sideloading of apps is available in 27 European Union (EU) countries: Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Ireland, Greece, Spain, France, Croatia, Italy, Cyprus, and Latvia. These countries include: Australia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Hungary, Malta, the Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia, Finland, and Sweden."
welp

steep creek

Apparently your apple id region needs to be in an eu country, and it checks your location to verify if you’re actually there

steep creek

If you leave the eu they give you a grace period of a month ish then after that you gotta return to get side loading back

steep creek

on apple you cant get your own app working compiled on a mac for more than 30 days
on android, an android can compile or recompile its own apps and install them without external intervention at all

That kind of power in a tiny ass package would be incredible for portable PCs

astral haven

people were very unhappy with them because they couldnt even keep battery full on standard 100w usb c chargers
cause even tho 100w was the tdp, they actually used that much

ashen spindle
#

Yeah no clue how its with halo, 125W TDP and some G14 or something for this years model increased tdp to it because they'll just use that model but what the actual power draw will be idk

cursive summit

How much physically larger will the halo die size be with the bunch of extra CUs

ashen spindle

yes

cursive summit
#

That sounds great

astral haven
#

with halo, id expect the tdp of 125w to be like the 28w of the ryzen U series, sure there will be a bunch of laptops with that, but there can be lower tdp to maximize efficiency

#

im gonna guess that the sweet spot in terms of fps/watt is gonna end up under 70% the max tdp whatever that ends up being

ashen spindle

I imagine if halo is not teased at computex we probably get info at FAD24 that's like the same month

that's not always the case, different regions have different pricing often

nah other regions too, australia and canada get weird pricing for tech often and even in europe sometimes models are more expensive and thus making otherwise expensive competition the cheaper option

No, in all regions except Japan, Sony is more expensive. And not even always in Japan.

ashen spindle

what doesnt make sense? Samsung display is a separate entity from samsung electronics that just exists under the same umbrella

Corsair has pretty iffy doa rates for me

I gave up on them anwhile ago

Beats having issues just after the two year warranty expires.

vagrant pagoda
#

Buddy built a 1000d with all Corsair fans

#

And after like the 5th failure he replaced them all

latent mural
#

I’m thinking of switching to those Lian-Li fans eventually, those ones that just link up without having to use cables to attach em

reef patrol
#

Corsair's link fans don't look as good as the ones I have currently. 😦

I have the LL120s, and those look amazing. Nothing has managed to beat them for my visual preferences. Sadly.

vagrant pagoda
#

Only time they ever let me down was the OG p14s started to randomly lose blades like 5 years in

reef patrol
#

Kind of tired of having 18 wires for the fans, including three controller devices 😄

vagrant pagoda
#

And I'll be damned if they didn't replace eight fans completely out of warranty

vagrant pagoda
#

The crazy thing is the fans minus one blade were still pretty quiet

steep creek
#

Sometimes I can’t even tell if the pc is on, fans are great

vagrant pagoda
#

I shorten the wires and make custom harnesses

reef patrol
#

Oh fun!

latent mural
reef patrol
vagrant pagoda
#

How

reef patrol
#

Big case.

Most of the fans need to have the length of wire they have. And would still end up with 18 wires for all of the fans sans controllers.

vagrant pagoda
#

All the fans don't have to be individually plugged in you know that right

#

I doubt you running a different RPM on every single fan

latent mural
#

Yeah I got two Corsair commanders in my case, it’s not fun to cable manage everything

vagrant pagoda
#

And with dumb RGB you can just chain them all together, and aRGB only a single wire has to be different between the fans

latent mural
#

Corsair fans have a power cable 4-pin, and a separate RGB 3-pin cable

dire trail
#

I plugged my wooting into some converters and only the windows key works is it because wooting is too new for that converter hardware addon that it doesn’t support

the angle to the edges of the screen is insane when you are that close

id rather buy 360hz now than wait idk how many months to buy 480hz

Does anyone know why consoles charge a subscription to play online games

#

I never understood that

#

How come no one charges pc players to play online games 😳

ashen spindle
#

because they can get away with it

primal pagoda
#

Ah I see

ashen spindle
#

also for the most part consoles are sold at a loss usually so they have to make money make from cuts on game sales on online things

primal pagoda
#

Gotnit

#

That makes sense

#

So the cost of using a Playstation for. 4 years isn't really 500

#

It's $750

ashen spindle
#

I mean that depends

astral haven
#

unless you dont need the online

ashen spindle

I dont play multiplayer on my ps5

primal pagoda

#

Regretted it a bit cause I wanted to play ghost of tsushima

#

And now it's coming on pc 😳

ashen spindle
#

also they do add in games in online so unless you already have everything you want to play you can get more value from it so it's not just straight up costs

#

but its depends case by case

primal pagoda

So it's like the printer situation
