And it fucks with the entire thing because it adds input noise

umbral heron
#

I can tell you, there's huge difference, especially when side to side

astral haven
#

no clue which, if you can find the data, please provide, if its 110w into 8 ohms itll be 53db off of whatever DR they measured either way

cursive summit
vagrant pagoda
#

Pretty sure it's way more than 110 watts in 8 ohm lol

cursive summit
#

Games have a fuck ton of static assets

#

HUD, etc

astral haven
#

lets be clear tho, high sensivitivy tweeters are in the 100db range, where iems in the 120s are commonplace

cursive summit
#

Is there burnin mitigation with the Deck?

vagrant pagoda
#

They're used a lot to drive ribbon tweeters which are extremely sensitive

umbral heron
#

I have over 300h in, no burn in whatsoever duck_bopping

ashen spindle
vagrant pagoda

Also I never said they would be great for headphones just that they would work lol

cursive summit
vagrant pagoda

Cuz I have used it to drive over the ear before

cursive summit
#

That was a few years back though

astral haven
astral haven
vagrant pagoda
#

Yep

astral haven
#

those amps are usually voltage limited

#

so high impedance is really good for performance

#

iems are often only around double the impedance of speakers, vs the 3x to 20x that headphones usually are

#

and some overears are not amazingly sensitive

#

as long as you dont blow them up, 600ohm headphones on speaker amps is apparently super awesome

crisp granite
#

actually
genuine question
how does someone do a fallout 4 "longplay"

vagrant pagoda
#

But yeah the 77 is like the best solid state amp from a major electronics company. You have to get to boutique stuff to get better

I found myself having exhausted all the content within 70 hours

including DLC

vagrant pagoda

Last year I spent like 3 weeks straight on an ultramodded FO4 play

Yeah FO4 has a lot of big content mods out

I can't wait for Nv in 4

that's obvious

fallout 4 was good on survival difficulty, but it was the only thing that made it enjoyable for me

crisp granite

I will mention that F4VR is going to be fun as hell with overhauls, new content mods, and whatever else
especially the F3 and NV remake mods

OpenAI apparently doesn't just to text prompts to video. It will eat your video and you can tweak that.

OpenAIโ€™s new tool doesnโ€™t just do text-to-video, it does VIDEO TO VIDEO. Just look at this example:

So, say you start with a video of a red car driving down a road. You could say, โ€œmake it go underwaterโ€ or โ€œchange the setting to a lush jungleโ€ or make it โ€œin a claymation styleโ€ or pixel art! Or "make it the 1920โ€™s with an old car," or more sub...

unkempt lake
vagrant pagoda
#

last i looked the issue with support on pc was video output is limited to rnda2

crisp granite
#

which was only on the RTX 2000 cards iirc

vagrant pagoda
#

there are adapters

astral haven
vagrant pagoda
#

there is working thridparty psvr2 on pc right now

unkempt lake
#

Amd 7900xtx reference models have usb c built in

#

Ngl tho i don't have much care or thoughts about VR

vagrant pagoda
#

go check ivry

unkempt lake
#

Just thought i'd share

#

My 2080 had a usb c and i never used it lol

vagrant pagoda
#

the issue is the driver is fucked with nvidia and wont output the requirded dsc 1.1 signal

astral haven
#

actually its plug and play as a monitor, nvidia just needs to add it as a vr device and its done

vagrant pagoda
#

nope

astral haven
#

heres someone using it as a monitor on a 2080ti, including through the lens photos

#

it doesnt work as a vr headset

wheat plume
#

Im actually dumb
I was wondering what would happen if you ordered more cards than your framework laptop can use at once.... they jsut come in their own box so you slot them in anytime you wanna use them LOL

#

IDK why I thought they were preinstalled

vagrant pagoda
#

it techically works

#

but not correctly

#

i belive sony uses dsc slice to make the area youre looking at sharper

astral haven
#

it works correctly as a monitor, it doesnt vr

vagrant pagoda
#

which nvidia dosenty support

astral haven
#

ivry has hacky stuff to make it kinda work with vr, but sony will work with nvidia directly probably

vagrant pagoda
#

no vr works perfectly

astral haven
#

nope

vagrant pagoda
wheat plume
vagrant pagoda
#

yes it dose

wheat plume
#

but I wish I did

vagrant pagoda
#

the video output dosent

astral haven
#

ivry works well enough

vagrant pagoda
#

you can plug the psvr2 into a amd gpu, and render on nvidia

#

and it works

astral haven
#

not without ivry translating

vagrant pagoda
#

yes

#

im talking about ivry

astral haven
#

sony and nvidia will make it work without ivry

vagrant pagoda
#

there is a driver bug with dsc on nvidia gpus on windows

#

so its not a ivry or psvr issue

#

its a driver issue

astral haven
#

no its intentional

vagrant pagoda
#

also sonys annoucement is about STREAMIKNG pc games to your ps5

#

so nvidia isnt doing anything

#

you can already render on a nvidia gpu and output to the headset via amd gpu

astral haven
#

not without ivry

#

ivry is not native

vagrant pagoda
#

yoiure missing the point

#

nvidia isnt fixing anything for sony

#

as its going to stream your pc to your ps5 to output to psvr2

astral haven
#

you are missing the point, it works as nvidia intends right now

vagrant pagoda
#

so the nvidia bug will not matter

wheat plume
#

Its really cool that Framework just sell you a Western Digital SSD if you order one for your laptop, they dont brand their own from some OEM like other brands do

#

WD Black :D

crisp granite
#

that's great Lana
just swell

wheat plume

timber mantle
#

Whoms't the fuck is Lana?

wheat plume
#

and it doesnt support SMART ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ

#

so if its dying, I wont know

#

YAY /S

vagrant pagoda
#

also the nvidia bug is always present even if you use the psvr as a monitor

cursive summit
wheat plume
#

LOL

steep creek
wheat plume
halcyon moss
#

Most laptops I've had.. Had Branded ssd

timber mantle
wheat plume
#

my Linux SSD is WD Black!

wheat plume
#

/S

vagrant pagoda
#

but if youre on am5 you can use the igpu to connect a psvr2 to a nvidia gpu render

astral haven
#

the only "bug" is that nvidia treats it as a monitor, giving you a mirrored view without prompting you for any installs

vagrant pagoda
#

that isnt the bug

#

go read ivry big ass write up on how the psvr2 uses dsc

wheat plume
#

๐Ÿค” you dont need to unplug the battery when removing or installing the SSD in the Framework... how did they avoid possible issues with that?

vagrant pagoda
#

ps5 uses dsc as part of the fovated rendering

#

nvidia gpus have a bug in dsc that prefvents it from working

astral haven
vagrant pagoda
#

but it has nothing to do with nvidia not supporting psvr2

#

its driver has a bug that prevents it from corretly doing dsc to spec

#

its just nothing else uses that part of the dsc spec

astral haven
#

a bug that introduces intended functionality is not a bug

vagrant pagoda
#

how is it a intended function

astral haven
#

the amd gpus can be modified to use the thing as a vr headset, however the lack of blocking vr headset parts causes windows to complain if you dont use something like ivry

#

on nvidia you can plug it in and it doesnt whine at you, it just displays a monitor

vagrant pagoda
#

it dose the same thing as nvidia if you plug into amd

astral haven
#

except for windows whining at you

#

steamvr also whines

#

according to the article

vagrant pagoda
#

nope it shows as a 1080p display

astral haven
#

ivry fixes that, but nvidia doesnt have that issue to begin with

astral haven
wheat plume
#

oh?

vagrant pagoda
#

same as nvidia

astral haven
#

and what did i say about that

wheat plume
#

thought it could cause a static shock or whatever?

vagrant pagoda
#

steamvr dosent see it as a headset

#

just a display

astral haven
#

and what did i say about that

vagrant pagoda
#

youi said windows wines and steamvr wines

#

they dont

#

they treat it like a monitor

astral haven
#

everything ive said said they both prompt to install drivers

#

where that doesnt happen on nvidia

vagrant pagoda
#

and that has nothing to do with the nvidia driver bug

astral haven
#

[citation needed]

#

how could they block the parts that make windows and steamvr realize its a vr headset without blocking foveated rendering functionality?

vagrant pagoda
#

its a bug in dsc

wheat plume
#

did he not install the bezel properly or is that large gap always there?

vagrant pagoda
#

if you have the dongle from ivry

#

it will show up and "work" as a vr device on nvidia

#

it just wont display anything

#

becuase there is a bug in nvidias dsc implentation

astral haven
#

tell me what you think my response would be to that

vagrant pagoda
#

you also requre the same dongle on amd

astral haven
#

wrong

vagrant pagoda
#

unless you use a modded driver on linux

astral haven
vagrant pagoda
#

on windows you need the dongle

astral haven
#

so ion, what did i say nvidia did?

vagrant pagoda
#

it has nothing to do with just the psvr2

#

if another display used the same dsc setup

#

it would fail on nvidia too

astral haven
#

if you cite something that isnt ivry also stating that I will concede

vagrant pagoda
#

also nvidia has acknowledged its a bug, and have a fix in the work that ivry has tested,

astral haven
#

you should already know my response to that if you were following along

vagrant pagoda
#

and i bet money sony will just make streaming to ps5 a thing

#

no chance sony makes it plug into a pc

astral haven
#

if that happens, nvidia will likely never unblock it

crisp granite
#

and I HATE THAT

astral haven
crisp granite
#

tbh the wording is neutral enough that it lends wiggle room

vagrant pagoda
#

how would nvidia know that someone would make a device to spoof the correct edid to get dsc to work on the pv2?

#

and then make a "bug" to prevent it from working

astral haven
#

nvidia likely made a blanket patch to make it treat the psvr2 as a monitor and arent changing it until sony does something

vagrant pagoda
#

the vr2 dose the monitor thing

astral haven
#

if ivry is working with them to get a workaround, then good for them

vagrant pagoda
#

it only sends a 1080p60 edid

astral haven
#

i am 100% confident that is not the full story

vagrant pagoda
#

you can plug it into a xbox with an adapter and it works as 1080p scren

astral haven
#

what did i say that would suggest otherwise

vagrant pagoda
#

the treating it as a monitor is because it identifies as a monitor

#

i cant link paid pateron posts

#

but ivry adapter works on nvidia, you just gert black screen

astral haven
#

why would amd gpus prompt you to install drivers if you dont install ivry

vagrant pagoda
#

if you screen cap it, the games work fine

astral haven
#

where nvidia doesnt

vagrant pagoda
#

nvidia gpus just fuck up the dsc so the psvr2 stays blank

astral haven
#

what do you think my response to that would be

vagrant pagoda
#

how would bidia know to put in a "bug" to make it display black?

#

you think they internally made the same adapter, then made it not work

astral haven
#

you already know how i would respond to that

vagrant pagoda
#

nvidia gpus see it with the right resoluition

#

with the dongle

#

you get no errors

#

it just dosent ouput because the dsc is borked

#

so nvidia would have to blacklist the resoltion

YIKES THAT PRICE

#

oh my

astral haven
#

i mean thats not horrible

steep creek
#

I guess you can save by not adding on memory and ssd, bring your own

wheat plume
#

I need to pay for RAM somewhere, either their RAM or try to find RAM that will works since XMP isnt supported on the Framework

#

but as for SSD, OS and charger, I have all those already

#

the DIY already has the webcam installed

#

the DIY has everything installed other than RAM, SSD, Keyboard, bezel and touchpad

#

and the IO cards

#

but those arent technically assembling it cause they arent installed in the preinstalled version either id imagine

#

I love that the display rotates all the way flat

my current laptop has a very small angle that I can push it back and a lot of the time its not enough :/

steep creek
#

Thatโ€™s a feature I enjoy a lot, along with a touchscreen. Makes presenting in class a lot easier haha

#

If it had the option for a touchscreen Iโ€™d be very interested

astral haven
#

full on tablet is even nicer imo

steep creek
#

Yeap though I already have an iPad unfortunately

astral haven
#

๐Ÿคท a single device replacing a laptop and an ipad is better imo

steep creek
#

Youโ€™re talking about the surface pro right?

wheat plume

Minisforum V3 <3

#

honestly, thats mega tempting too

astral haven
#

yep surface pro and minisforum

wheat plume
#

๐Ÿคค

astral haven
#

im also interested in the new dual screen devices

wheat plume
#

oh yeah

steep creek
#

Donโ€™t know to be honest, there are some conveniences of having an iPad at least for me

astral haven
wheat plume
#

yeah...the webcam ever so slightly off-center

astral haven
steep creek
astral haven
#

and thats with the disadvantage that we cant get cell service for our surfaces, and we can for our ipads

wheat plume
#

webcam better than modern macbooks

#

hes moving slightly hence the face blur

astral haven
#

if you have a macbook you probably should have an iphone, and you can use the iphone as a macbook webcam so...

wheat plume
#

you can do that on Android too :D

#

but not wirelessly ๐Ÿ˜ข

#

only cable

astral haven
#

sometimes

steep creek
#

Find it convenient to airdrop between classmates and such, since a lot of my friends have iPads too

astral haven
#

thats self defeating argument tho
i use this worse thing because i got bullied into it by advertising

#

and classmates apparently

steep creek
#

Not really bullying more so just convince or laziness lol. I know there are ways to share files but airdropping just makes it easier

#

But I guess the more important reason is that this is what Iโ€™m used to, hard to get away from something Iโ€™ve always used

astral haven
#

unless you spend 5 minutes actually trying to use the workflow on android or windows

#

disbelief that what you do is possible is not an argument
having made an effort before is however

steep creek
#

I think itโ€™d be easier to swap over to an android tablet than surface, donโ€™t know though just speculating

astral haven
#

anything an android tablet can do, a surface can do, however surfaces have far better multitasking and much wider app support

steep creek
#

Multitasking on the tablet is not needed since itโ€™s mostly just in one app all day anyways

astral haven
#

the disadvantages are worse screens (vs samsung) and worse battery

wheat plume
#

If I get the V3
I'm putting Linux on it

Gnome desktop on touchscreen is amazing

steep creek
#

Battery is very important to me since i donโ€™t (or very rarely) have opportunities to charge in the lecture halls

astral haven
steep creek
#

I just use the same app for note taking though

#

Been using it almost since i started the degree haha

astral haven
#

sure but are all your notes best managed by that one app?
different programs are good for different types of notes

steep creek
#

Yes I believe so, I mean I have classmates that manage just fine on pen and paper

astral haven
#

i dont think you mean to imply that you actually have found the best, and neither do i,
however knowing that i dont know everything, i try to keep my options open

steep creek
#

Of course there are lots of other note taking apps. Iโ€™ve just settled on this one because I like it and it does everything I need it to do

#

Main reason I switched to digital notes is because it got tiresome organizing between multiple subjects and having to scan paper to submit it as an assignment

astral haven
#

and i find searching pen and paper is far too slow

#

maybe for school writing is better, i was never very good at school anyways so idk

steep creek
#

Personally I prefer writing over typing too, I find i donโ€™t focus well on what the professor is saying when trying to type alongside

astral haven
#

but i have an immense amount to remember, our documentation is around 500 pages for pretty much purely internal stuff, and the old notebook of documentation is still around and is incredibly awful

steep creek
#

You must have good memory thatโ€™s awesome

astral haven
#

nah my memory is atrocious, i just know how to search the docs

steep creek
#

Ah fair, it takes a while for me to learn / memorize new things but usually fine after a while

astral haven
#

hopefully you can find a carreer where all of the infrastructure doesnt get uprooted and migrated every 1,3, or 6 years lol

steep creek
#

Lol professor keeps telling us weโ€™re set for the future, I hope he is right

astral haven
#

school should be for general concepts that apply to any job in the profession

#

the actual job duties will likely have this sort of change, and if you understand the theory, adapting is easier

steep creek
#

Yeah youโ€™re right, and the learning process never stops either

astral haven
#

yup

steep creek
#

I wouldnโ€™t for example hand draw circuits, could but it doesnโ€™t look nice on assignments

coiled cables do the same thing as straight cables (if not worse, due to the longer length), so its just personal preference on what looks better. as what which ones are compatible, the wooting cables (obviously) and cablemod cables have been said by quite a few people to work. most coiled cables should work, but arent guaranteed to work with tachyon on full brightness or even 70%, you may need to lower your brightness a fair amount to get it to work.

Microsoft DirectSR, super resolution for all GPUs? Microsoft is gearing up to drop some exciting news at GDC 2024 (thatโ€™s the Graphics Developer Conference) kicking off on March 23. Developers should get ready to learn about new super resolution tech, which is reportedly called โ€œDirectSRโ€ โ€“ as in Direct Super Resolution. DirectSR may be aiming [...

So it's software level.. like AMD's AFMF

#

I think FSR2 and XeSS are also hardware level solutions

#

I wonder if they'll do frame gen

ashen spindle
#

no both fsr2 and xess run on all hardware

cursive summit
#

Well yes

#

But they are hardware level solutions

ashen spindle
#

how are they supposed to be hardware level when they arent doing anything special on hardware level

halcyon moss
#

xess apparently has a hardware level on intel gpus

ashen spindle
#

it has an extra version using intel matrix hardware yes but not default xess

AMD Radeon RX 7900 GRE targets price-reduced RTX 4070 non-SUPER The Golden Rabbit Edition officially launches on February 27th.ย  AMD RX 7900 GRE will no longer be limited to the Chinese DIY market. I guess yall get this a lot but whats the specific difference between 60he and TWO He? A lot of people say its basically the same which I get that the differential changes are neglectable but what is really the difference?

#

I.. wonder how much sense does it make for AMD to foundry on Intel

#

Intel's process nodes are not bad at all

#

Costs are questionable, how hard would it be to convert from TSMC's tech to Intel's is another question

just spent an inordinate amount of time re-seating my router. bloody 4G. I need to buy a screw-on antenna that isn't balls

anyone got antenna recommendations? it appears this router mainly uses band 3

As long as there is good legal separation, and they offer a good contract, I see no reason why AMD would not fab at Intel.

ashen spindle

well yeah they dont want to make old chips that arent selling any volume anymore

cursive summit
#

But converting a WIP one like Zen 6 from TSMC 3nm or whatever to Intel 20A or 18A with all the GAAFETs I can imagine, is quite different

#

Substrate and whatever is different

ashen spindle
#

what makes you think that's even a consideration

cursive summit
#

Manufacturing price?

ashen spindle
#

no why would they do zen6 and not something later thats not set for any node yet

cursive summit
#

If Intel gives like 30% cheaper prices than TSMC then they could convert soon upcoming products to Intel's node to reap benefits

ashen spindle
#

no lol this is way to close to launch to even consider that lmfao

thick elk
#

By the time zen 6 would enter volume production at Intel it would already be outdated.

ashen spindle
#

also "Intel's process nodes are not bad at all" none of this would happen on nodes that we have any clue on how they perform so that's just blind speculation

fickle ore
#

likewise ;p

#

I don't think TSMC's prices are bad necessarily, given nvidia's profit margins are in the 70%'s.

thick elk
#

Either way, I expect AMD like all major chip designers to keep an eye out for Intel's Foundry. That does not mean they will use them, but I highly doubt Nvidia and AMD will completely ignore them either.

fickle ore
#

Whichever has the performance/or node lead commands a premium

#

TSM will only adopt HIGH-NA in 2030

#

Intel will have the lead for 3+ years

cursive summit
ashen spindle
#

they were supposed to have regular EUV lead and then 10nm went nowhere

#

so dont count them before they do it

fickle ore
#

stop semantics fighting me, they will have a node lead even if they can only push 1 cpu per year

ashen spindle
#

I mean them wanting to have it != them instantly having it

cursive summit
#

I don't see Intel pushing in the lead, Intel 4 is about a match to TSMC N5, or was it N6

#

Whatever AMD makes their stuff on

#

Intel just seems about on par, which is respectable

fickle ore
#

Vex Intel will have high-na by 2027

Hey guys if I order wooting 60 he + module with case switches and everything selected. Do I still have to manually do something or does it come pre built?

fickle ore

there is no "seeing"

Having High NA doesn't mean everything, just like having EUV machines first doesn't mean you have the best node

dusk violet

Thanks

fickle ore
#

Intel kept pushing DUV

ashen spindle
#

having it first doesnt mean they get it working first

fickle ore
#

smh amd fanbois

thick elk
#

That, but also while intel's bet with DUV didn't pan out, doesn't mean the same can be said for future steps

fickle ore
#

just go contra and buy Canon then

thick elk
#

Intel believed at the time that the route they took was best. Did they end up with the best node, probably no, but that does not mean their decision was even wrong, let alone that going forward with ever more expansive tech.
That's something very different from going backwards.

Be however it may, I don't see TSMC prices being bad given the profit margins...

#

Prices dont seem to matter enough to choose one over the other

ashen spindle
#

I mean on a 10k H100 that nvidia sells tsmc sell them a few hundred for the die perhaps

fickle ore
#

If anything, if I'm understanding this correctly intel costs per wafer will be a bit higher starting

#

Or is TSMC EUV even Low-NA lol

fickle ore

# wheat plume why is it 74.97 and not 75?

I randomly remember now. when I changed my monitor's EDID information and put in my desired hz by hand, it was even resolutions (360 - 240 - 144) across the board. but normally it's like this too. which means that's how the vendor puts in the resolutions, no idea why. there's probably a good technical reason

and get cheaper nodes for customers despite higher costs etc.

#

also better node per se does not result in better products, DTCO makes for >=50% of the performance result nowadays

fickle ore
#

True, unless they have a significant lead in performance or energy efficiency, they they can charge a premium depending if they can scale the production for e.g apple big

ashen spindle
#

also for big chips you need to keep in mind high NA halves the reticle limit

#

so if you want to make big ones you might not want to use euv yet
