halcyon moss
#

It's very user friendly, just not for downloading.

zenith silo
#

most people around my age are completely oblivious and do not at all pay attention/read/look anything up

#

if not spoon fed to them, they find somewhere like discord to ask for questions instead of searching it up

steady tartan
halcyon moss
#

Github is made to make the devs life easier to develop the application.

#

You get something for free

steady tartan
#

There are many sites that allow you to download free shit and they can be new user friendly

halcyon moss
#

I get its not the easiest to "i just want to download"

steady tartan
#

So whats your point here

zenith silo
#

man github was easy for me to figure out when i first started using it

halcyon moss
#

But that's just entitlement

#

I want it all and I want it now 😢

zenith silo
#

all i had to do was like, open my eyes and read for like 1 minute, and i havent had an issue downloading stuff from github since

halcyon moss
#

Go ahead and code it yourself

#

You can't? Or don't want to? Spent the minute to find the download

steady tartan
halcyon moss
#

What was your argument again
?

zenith silo
#

dude would have an aneurysm trying to compile his own app

#

i have to install an app to compile my app to install my app 😡

#

you are being lazy

halcyon moss
#

And whine about it

zenith silo
#

it takes like 1 minute of gooling to figure out how to download shit

steady tartan
zenith silo
#

neither am i, im just not restarted

#

when certain apps i want to use arent able to be downloaded as an exe, you compile them with 2 fucking buttons

#

you dont need to be a programmer to compile something, its already programmed......

steady tartan
zenith silo
#

dawg its 2 buttons

#

you entitled mf🤣

halcyon moss
#

This is so silly, someone made something for someone else to be useful, made it available in an easy manner for others to find, just that the download button of a .exe is harder to find..

Spent hours making it. And you can't be arsed to find the button

zenith silo
#

your time isnt worth git hubs time catering to morons

halcyon moss
#

I. Don't like that attitude

zenith silo
steady tartan
zenith silo
#

dont need to, i can already tell you are entitlted

#

now thats a mighty argument

reef patrol
#

We do not use that kind of language here. First and final warning.

steady tartan
#

You cant tell shit, the fact that you interpolated my argument of GitHub into thinking Im not thankful for devs for making something for free

zenith silo
#

instead of googling how to download it and not complaining for 0 reason, you are here crying about how its not user friendly to download

steady tartan
#

I have heard it million of times but thanks broski

steady tartan
#

The talk was about new users

#

But I know that people love to prove others being wrong while thinking they are right

steady sail
reef patrol
#

Still takes me a minute or so to remember where the fuck they hide download links.

steady sail
fair gull
#

why was there a discussion on people misusing githubs release page to distribute their compiled downloads. the main use for it is having an easy place to download release related versioned sourcecode bundles and assets related to it. this is an issue of projects not wanting to make a simple website giving you a download link to the latest build binaries.

reef patrol
#

The intended use and the practical use are two very differen things. We've debated this before 😄

fair gull
#

still means that this is sort of (in my opinion) invalid blaming of github when they dont intend it to be used this way

reef patrol
#

Yet they don't make any attempts to prevent it or discourage it. So I'd say it still lies with them.

fair gull
#

idk how theyd prevent people from using a github repo as their project website

reef patrol
#

If the norm is to allow this little option at the bottom of this list for compiled projects/mods/hacks, then that's on them.

reef patrol
#

Can't enforce something you don't actively state.

digital cliff
#

yep I don't like using github as a place to download binaries but it can't be helped since everything is hosted there

misty saffron
#

a bad one, in fact

reef patrol
#

It is however how a -ton- of people use hitgub to just release shit. No releases page use.

misty saffron
#

unlucky, just compile

reef patrol
#

You're hilarious.

misty saffron
#

if you're talking people releasing binaries in source code - i want to kill each person like that

reef patrol
#

Github is very, very commonly used just to host the latest version of mods for a ton of games. Minecraft among others.

#

Free hosting and all that.

misty saffron
#

yes, use releases for that purpose

reef patrol
#

Just for end users, no compiling or anything that github offers.

misty saffron
#

when i download source code i expect to download source code

reef patrol
#

Welcome to a reality that doesn't match expectations 😄

misty saffron
#

yeah i just ignore those repos

reef patrol
#

You're a programmer. Different segment of Github.

misty saffron
#

if people can't grasp the basics of github it's unlikely to be worth the time

reef patrol
#

Again this is about how Github IS USED, not how it SHOULD BE used. pepeLaugh

misty saffron
#

and yet you should still ignore those

#

not the first and last time malware has been spread that way

#

*mostly malware is spread that way

reef patrol
#

Welcome to reality.

#

Lot of mods are only offered there officially, in that capacity.

old marlin
#

giggle I love getting compiled software etc with no releases

#

I feel like at leat half the people that host their stuff on github don't know how github works

misty saffron
#

officially? i thought we're not talking about programmers

old marlin
#

no

#

I mean people that host their stuff on github

#

the amount of repos with 0 releases

#

even though they really should just use that feature

#

💀

reef patrol
terse dune
#

hey is this the tech help ?

#

trying to add the danish keys as FN + (something) on my UK ISO keyboard.

reef patrol
terse dune
#

oh 😦

reef patrol
#

You'd need to do ALT + 1234 style shortcuts to get them. Can't bind them directly.

terse dune
#

how do you go about those

reef patrol
#

Macros! Each bound to a key. Like FN+A FN+E and FN+O

digital cliff
#

alternative methods include altering your layout with the windows layout creator thing, or simply using danish language in the OS

terse dune
digital cliff
#

yeah but I mean the keyboard layout

terse dune
#

just not used as my main

digital cliff
#

right right

terse dune
#

ye i tried to pop it as keyboard layout so wootility recognised it but

#

that didnt work

reef patrol
#

Wootility just shows what the OS tells it to.

#

You might need to reboot after changing over, to make it detect the change.

terse dune
#

ah. on screen keyboard in danish didnt work out, im guessing my best shot is wootimation ?

#

im not a native danish speaker but learning it currently which is my reason for adding them

reef patrol
#

You might as well get a Danish localized keyboard and swap over to using the Danish layout.

#

Much easier once you get used to the changed symbols locations.

terse dune
#

ah, already got a modded out 60he aha

#

true

digital cliff
terse dune
#

i may as well give wootility a go since it should recognise the alt way

digital cliff
#

it's not really a keyboard function, it's a OS language layout function so solving it at the root seems most logical to me

terse dune
#

ah cheers, similar ish to where i was going to pop them

#

so its in windows i want to add it ?

digital cliff
#

well that link didn't work... hold up

#

there

#

though the website I linked seems to include some downloads for the layout pictured anywayy

terse dune
#

ah thanks

digital cliff
#

I just skimmed through it really

terse dune
#

i assume it supports setting it to

#

FN + the key

#

cheers i will just need to remember i have stuff set to them then and not to overlap in wootility haha

digital cliff
#

well it'll automatically have them under AltGr, FN is not really a place for symbols imo

terse dune
#

oh

digital cliff
#

as you can see in the image

slim spruce
#

i want to sell a pc with a 2070 super 8gig and ryzen 7 3700x, how much can i ask for?

terse dune
#

yeah probably a good shout, dont think i literally ever use altgr

#

dont even know why it exists lol

digital cliff
#

altgr L, K, W and the like

#

it exists for specifically this purpose

terse dune
#

yeah ill do the q, w and l

digital cliff
#

accented letters and all that

terse dune
#

wait no

#

L, z and w

digital cliff
#

I personally type finnish using something similar and have done so for ages

terse dune
#

ah makes sense

#

i may as well add the lot in case i learn more languages afterwards lol

digital cliff
#

yeah I mean, I have basically all symbols available to me

terse dune
#

and i never use altgr

digital cliff
#

äåöãüúł˛đá`ß´óíéñˇ¨æ^çœ˘ just spamming stuff with altgr held down

#

quite handy :>

terse dune
#

haha ye

#

language is such a rabbit hole aha

#

started dansk since im likely to move in the future and always had an interest in doing so and means eventually i can make conversation with swedes too

#

you lot though i have no chance xD

digital cliff
#

ahhah well danish is probably one of the hardest languages to learn, at least the phonetic aspect

#

written, not too bad

terse dune
#

yeah the danish o is

#

quite tricky

digital cliff
#

try the soft d floof_deadge

terse dune
#

i play valorant with a danish team now though so its plenty of hard constructive criticism if i mess it up

terse dune
digital cliff
#

maybe... depending on who you ask

terse dune
#

i mean as an english guy its not been too painful to pronounce

#

and the danish o im really getting there

#

a pointer of it being like the u in "hurt"

#

was a big help

reef patrol
#

Or the uhh sound in ... well uhh

terse dune
terse dune
reef patrol
#

Æ is ehhhhhh

terse dune
#

thats genius

terse dune
reef patrol
#

Å is also kind of like uhh, but in a slightly different tone 😄

terse dune
reef patrol
#

Yeah.

#

Danish is not an easy language to master. And it doesn't help that Danes generally prefer to just fallback to English, if met with someone who doesn't speak it fluently.

terse dune
#

so i just do that almost and ill probably get there

reef patrol
#

Really gotta pressure us to accept "broken Danish" to help people learn 😄

terse dune
#

ive been surrounding myself with accepting ones so ill get it

terse dune
#

can always pretend i dont understand english if not xD

#

and improvise a french accent

reef patrol
#

As an added bonus, once you have an ear for Danish, Norwegian becomes like a dialect. Swedish less so, but also fairly easy to grasp.

terse dune
#

about 1 month and a half into heavily learning it and im doing okay

terse dune
reef patrol
terse dune
#

i can pretty much tell almost always if its danish or not

digital cliff
#

hats off regardless for trying to learn such a phonologically difficult language

terse dune
#

and duolingo isnt cheap

#

and i refuse to give up

reef patrol
#

No assistance from work/state? Could have sworn we have language classes as part of immigration.

terse dune
#

but chances are ill retire there if not before, ah i dont live there

#

i live in the UK at the moment

reef patrol
#

Ahhhh... yeah that makes it a bit difficult to receive help I spose 😄

terse dune
#

oh the english dont care to help learn anything but english, french and german

#

despite our scandinavian history

#

and maybe a bit of spanish if you are lucky

reef patrol
#

Una.. cer..cerve...cervesa por favor

terse dune
#

i mean welsh is clinging on for dear life

reef patrol
terse dune
#

im trying to use that file but its not working

reef patrol
#

The what and the what now?

terse dune
#

in download/installation

digital cliff
#

that was me

reef patrol
#

Ahh the layout creator.

digital cliff
#

you tried these both? I'm not sure how it works

terse dune
#

yeah, couldnt work out how and which to uis

terse dune
digital cliff
#

guess the other one is a fully generated one and the other one is for MSKLC if you want to edit it beforehand

terse dune
#

second is just a webpage of text

digital cliff
#

yeah you'd have to save the webpage as a file and import into msklc I guess

#

but otherwise use the zipped one, it's an installer right

#

just adds the layout into windows and then you can toggle it in the settings I'd assume

#

can't really check myself but that's what I'm assuming

terse dune
#

oh

#

might do it manually

#

only want the altgr stuff changed

digital cliff
#

that's all that would change, otherwise it's just ISO UK

#

just with a useful altgr layer

terse dune
#

ye

#

cheers for all that 🙂

#

oh

terse dune
digital cliff
#

you'd need to install msklc and drop the .klc file there

#

I'm literally just assuming things, I don't use windows and much less msklc :P

terse dune
#

i mean once import it how do i remove everything that affects stuff that isnt altgr stuff

digital cliff
#

I'm not sure it's different in any other way

#

it's just iso uk with an altgr layer

terse dune
#

ah

umbral heron
terse dune
#

i just know a couple bits when wooting sent it was different

#

like i remember the function and right ctrl were other way to my last uk iso keyboard

digital cliff
#

those you can remap in wootility if you choose

terse dune
#

yeah i did that aha

#

just tested

#

everything is all good

#

only affected the altgr

tawny hemlock
#

alt gr is cool

#

i need alt gr

terse dune
#

yeah

#

just got to work out how to save it

tawny hemlock
#

whats my password pls

i found it thanks

halcyon moss

yeah i really liked jetbrains ides like pycharm

halcyon moss

you can do ts + react in pycharm as well

cosmic thunder

what

#🐸│memes message

old marlin
#

ah

#

ye original post tho

#

Almost like GitHub is explicitly for developers

reef patrol
#

Yeah I forgot to link it over here, since it was so fitting 😄

old marlin
#

no

#

that is exactly why github has releases as a feature KEKW

reef patrol
#

Like I said earlier - They need to actually enforce that.

#

Cause what their intent is - and how reality is... are not remotely the same 😄

old marlin
#

eh

#

not all projects are at a point for a release

#

or are something that would make sense to have a release

reef patrol
#

You can't on one hand claim that github is only for developers, and on the other hand have no problem with a ton of projects using it purely as a hosting platform for the latest build of RANDOM_MOD_FOR_THING

#

Checked through my recent Minecraft setup, and I needed to visit about a dozen different Github pages to get the files needed to run things. None of which used releases 😄

old marlin
#

not saying that myself KEKW

reef patrol
#

Also a couple for 2077 for frameworks.

ashen spindle
#

Yeah but GitHub doesn’t care it’s not intuitive for non devs because they don’t primarily serve that group

#

So they don’t need to enforce people using it as a hosting site because it don’t changing anything either way for the site or devs using it

reef patrol
#

Again - Just hypcrisy at play. I don't care either way. I care about the "but it's not for end users" as an argument, because it's clearly being used as such 😛

digital cliff
#

I don't see how that is github's fault though

old marlin
#

it's not

#

though they aren't settign a good precedent in that post OMEGALUL

reef patrol
#

I disagree. See "enforcement"

old marlin
#

they do not even mention releases being a thing

digital cliff
#

they can do what they want lol

#

nobody can demand github to cater to their preferences or whatever

#

it is what it is in the end

ashen spindle
# reef patrol I disagree. See "enforcement"

If discord was used and you had to scroll up and down to find mod installs and for some reason that became the norm would you say it’s discords fault for their users using it in stupid ways?

digital cliff
#

oh yeah quin raises a good point, especially with FF14 a bunch of stuff regarding to mods or otherwise game-related shit and tools are hosted on discord, a platform that is notoriously shit for any permanent information

#

I personally despise it but not like it's discord's fault and they should start banning users xd

old marlin
#

yea idk "hosting" your files on discord is pretty stupid

digital cliff
#

it is the worst

old marlin
#

next step is them encoding the data into video files and sharing them via tiktok or something

cursive summit
#

"If you're not a developer, then GitHub is the wrong place for you to be looking for software. "

#

Then why are most important softwares hosted in github havo

cursive summit
#

I can't lie I do hate apps that you have to compile yourself

old marlin
#

that is what the releases section is for OMEGALUL

cursive summit
#

But most have binaries so it's not a problem

reef patrol
#

You shouldn't use Github outside of dev
Great - So don't fucking let people do it to the point of it becoming a normalized thing.

umbral heron
reef patrol
#

digital cliff
#

well your opinion is just wrong duck_sip

#

cue that one stupid gif

reef patrol

cursive summit
#

Ngl I tried several times commiting into GitHub a project

#

It'd just be "Success!"

#

Half of the files are missing havo

vagrant pagoda
#

Lol

#

Git pull good

cursive summit
#

Which is why I never used github ever again

ashen spindle
#

What versioning tool do you use then

cursive summit
#

Me?

#

Desktop

#

Which is none havo

#

Frequent backups and a lot of CTRL+Z if anything goes awry

ashen spindle
#

Spend 20 minutes to understand git basics and you save hours of not having to do backups

umbral heron
#

Yeah, once you get to "merge conflicts" section you'll realize you'll save hours by not using git havo

cursive summit
#

I see zero benefit from versioning tools

ashen spindle
#

I mean that only happens if you have multiple people working on it or are using more than one branch

#

If you just work on one you miss out on advantages but are also just having one streamlined version that you can just go back and forth on

digital cliff
old marlin
#

if you have multiple people working on it you get "merge conflicts" by having 2 separate files you gotta manually paste together

cursive summit
halcyon moss
cursive summit
#

All the power to you, they just inconvenience me

ashen spindle
#

Clicking two buttons is an inconvenience over making manual backups and all that?

cursive summit
#

Yep

#

Especially if it doesn't work and just refuses to backup the files

ashen spindle
#

Then you set it up wrong

cursive summit
#

I think I used PyCharm's inbuilt Git thing

#

It would never succeed copying my files

#

Always just skips something and refuses to manually upload something saying it's "already been uploaded".. when it hasn't

ashen spindle
#

So fix it or use another git client

halcyon moss
#

Pycharms git ui is pretty good imho

ashen spindle
#

Either way is less time than manually backing up stuff

cursive summit
#

Why would I bother when the usefulness of git is dubious

halcyon moss
#

Must be a expectation issur

cursive summit
#

I just like CTRL+C -> CTRL+V'ing my folders

ashen spindle
#

Enjoy when you need to work with more than yourself on a project or copy the wrong thing once

#

¯_(ツ)_/¯

halcyon moss
#

Copying is not a thing you do in git.
You commit and push

#

If you want to go back you look in the log or similar

ashen spindle
#

Yeah I’m saying he will at one point copy the wrong thing and have lost something because it’s not reachable anymore since it wasn’t committed anywhere

#

Or good luck if you have an issue that was working 2 weeks ago and you need to revert to fix that but don’t have a changelog

halcyon moss
#

Bisecting is also very nice

#

off-topic, but I've been learning a bit about the black plague recently, and europe in the year 1355 was pretty much a post-apocalyptic world

Yeah it was brutal - and happened more than once. It was one of the most meaningful societal changes in history. Turned peasants into citizens, purely out of need. Gave us last names.

smoky frigate
#

england went from 6 million people to 2 million in the span of a few years, and it kickstarted societal change that would have otherwise taken hundreds more years, probably

#

there was a peasant revolt that came within a hair of overthrowing the monarchy, with the help of radicalized clergymen. had they succeeded, there could have been a sort of peasant socialism in england in the 14th century... wild!

While that would be nice, compatibility is an issue here according to the spec 2 pci-e 8 pins can be replaced with 1 EPS connector.

#

I can imagine some poorly designed psu offering more eps connectors and using some badly designed multi-rail system that ends up failing.

#

Otherwise dual pci-e 8pin to eps would be a viable adapter.

ashen spindle

bad psus will fail either way

Hello, can anyone here recommend some sub 300g wireless 2.4ghz headphones? or headset with detachable mic

thick elk
#

While I am certain people can come up with recommendations, you may be better off asking somewhere dedicated to audio.

fair gull
#

also quite specific with the weight

#

and somehow i believe that will be hard with the fact its wireless and the battery prob already takes up most of the weight so do the drivers

digital cliff
#

yeah sounds like a list of requiremens where you end up with one or two products anyway

chrome lava
#

havnet found one yet

#

only bluetooth wireless

#

there are plenty

fair gull
#

you know BT is 2.4ghz right?

chrome lava
#

srsly?

thick elk
#

that would be the autistic answer yes

fair gull
#

BT literally uses the 2.4ghz band

chrome lava
#

🤔

#

that makes it a lot easier

umbral heron
#

Wi-Fi too havo

thick elk
#

of course, but when people say 2.4ghz they mean dedicated 2.4ghz dongle for latency

digital cliff
#

what they meant I'm sure is RF 2.4ghz...

fair gull
#

yeah 2.4ghz is a pretty popular band due to range vs datarate

thick elk
#

bluetooth does have latency

fair gull
#

id say thats a BT implementation limitation not inherant to BT

chrome lava
#

thanks i thought there is a different between BT and 2.4ghz

umbral heron
#

There is dogekek

chrome lava
#

ok

fair gull
#

there is a difference to all the things that use 2.4GHz

umbral heron
#

There is 2.4 bluetooth, 2.4 wifi, and 2.4 RF proprietary dongles

#

You're looking for the last one

chrome lava
#

is a RF connection better than bluetooth for example?

#

eventhough both use 2.4ghz

#

or the other way around

umbral heron
#

Everything is better than Bluetooth honestly duck_sip

#

But Bluetooth is compatible with pretty much everything

chrome lava
#

i just wanna be sure i have best latency when using wireless headphones

fair gull
#

the main issue is BT has a target sector of low power usage mainly so most implementations focus on that not exactly the data latency

umbral heron
#

For lowest latency - 2.4 RF

#

But it'd be hard to get to 300g mark

fair gull
#

the only (in my opinion) nice wireless headphones i used so far were astro a50s (which use 2.4ghz themselve) but those are above 300g

thick elk
#

fair enough, still going wired would open more options also.

umbral heron
#

I agree duck_sip

#

Bluetooth-only headphones (not headsets) are around 250~300g, with 2.4 wireless it'll be hard

thick elk
#

I agree on iem's not being something to use all day. Use them during my daily commute and exercise.

umbral heron
#

I rock my M50xs with KA17 plugged in through the supermarket with 5 meters of cable around me havo

fair gull
#

also what can be loud your gf as in you hear her over whatever your headphones play or your gf hears your sound from the headphones

thick elk
#

I personally use a hifiman he400se connected to a qudelix 5k when gaming I plug it in over usb.

#

at work I use a senheisser hd598cs

digital cliff
#

well if you were to ask Dashi I'm sure she'd recommend the G733 again

#

they are

  • under 300g
  • "lightspeed wireless"
fair gull
#

i just use Shure SRH840s with a scarlet solo and a FetHead inbetween

digital cliff
#

seems to tick some boxes here

#

if you absolutely need a mic that can be removed then obviously no go

old marlin
#

Clueless low latency wireless and good audio quality has almost no correlation

#

not because it couldn't, it's just that nobody wants to actually make a decent product since half assing it is fine

umbral heron
#

I tried G733s, they awkwardly sit on head, don't really work for me PeepoShrug

fair gull
#

i only ever heard reviews of the g733 saying the latency is rather high

digital cliff
#

guess they suck then

thick elk
#

honestly going bluetooth and just plugging it in on latency senitive use seems like an option I would gravitate towards in such a case.

umbral heron
#

Haven't tried how they sound, just tried them on in supermarket

fair gull
#

ok apparently the new revisions of the g733 are at 23ms latency and use custom 2.4ghz protocols

I tried some logi headset ages ago, g933 maybe or 903 or whatever, I'm sure they are all the same -- felt like shit, sounded terrible

you have aluminum, copper, and wood, you are missing steel and plastics, and rely heavily on trade with the us for services
exporting 223B cad vs importing 234B cad
a net import econ is rough, especially when a significant portion of exports is cognitive services, all of which can vanish extremely quickly

the actual process of would open a Pandora's box of rewriting the legal fabric of the nation since we'd need to amend the constitution to actually allow leaving confederation
and it would require Quebec actually agreeing to the ground rules that they've never agreed to
since...the early 80s

I just have no respect for the idea of quebec separatism
it's just so flawed and stupid that it would never work

Dashi also fails to recognise the other major aspect of that point of the SCC ruling
being that yes, Canada should honour Quebec's "right to separate"
but they also need to work with the rest of Canada to address any and all concerns arising from, which would lead to a battered Quebec getting independence if at all, as well as the rest of Canada on the verge of falling apart, or disintegrating with Quebec separatism made manifest

bc too little production of war equipment and reliance on energy
