I have cats. Carpet is not an option 😄
Had it in the bedroom which is off-limits to cats, besides that it depends on the cat.
Back when we had it on the stairs now that's a problem with cats.

anyone recommend these?
https://drop.com/buy/drop-hifiman-he-x4-planar-magnetic-headphones
Don't forget the drop import x costs
not worth
if you're going to get a hifiman at all the sundara is one of the few good at the entry level
sundara is waste of cash atp
edition xs is too close in price, while being closer to 1000$ cans
damn they made another revision of the same headphone lol
its ok headphone for that price i guess
it got that treble so eh without some eqing
no idea what are you talking about but for me its great headphone for that price
that dip from 1k to 3k also isn't helping
you are not going to get a planar headphone thats perfectly clean
i love it for its + attributes
it's also a hifiman so qc is also a potential factor
when comparing different hifimans you basically can cancel it out
overall I'd say it's better to buy a used kilobuck for 500 than to get a 500 brand new
headphone market moment
most high end device markets tbh
the only other competitor is the moondrop venus
i got lucky on used amp
with good speaker brands you cant buy good used
what
you can buy plenty of good speakers used
depends on market too
yea idk about that, i havent really tried to get speakers myself since i generally dislike the convenience factors of speakers, but ive seen good deals pretty much whenever i looked for other folks
prob better to buy used in usa
ok im curious, without knowing what these 3 are, what would you people think of these headphones just based on the response curves
what's it measured on though?
my hearing damage will make em all sound weird to me, so no comment
uhhhh not sure if the article mentions that
overall the red seems to be the most safe option
although hard to tell without knowing what rig it's measured on or having a reference
id be terrified of all of those if those were on a gras lel
hm yeah unless im blind it doesnt mention anything about that
the red is a HD600
was just curious what a blind response would be since thats the only graph I could find for mine xD
yours is in blue right?
thought those response curves were normalized or something
i certainly dont like hd600 response and how they actually sound
My problem with the hd6xx which extends to the hd600 is that I just don't find them comfortable
they are, but the actual sound measured highly depends on the rig used to measure it
well what do you think if the red is the hd600, which of green/blue would be the higher end one
blue would be my guess
green has alooot of midbass
headphone measurements suck
because you would ideally have a rig with your ears
your entire ear canal modeled
green are what I have, rs180 blue are rs220
rs huh
wow, didnt know the 180s were that bass heavy
ive only heard the rs120 and 220
the 220 are definetly heavier 600 series, but i much prefer them since they are more comfortable
As long as the frequency response is workable, they can handle enough volume on the base without distorting, the actual response can easily be fixed by eq.
the 120 are incredibly sensitive to where exactly you put them on your ears
Works wonders on what I am using.
hd598se, HE400se
user error or the eq software isnt working right
Especially the former sounds like crap without eq and is pretty decent with.
oh i have he400i
used to be in a similar position, but the issue is learning to know what to fix
ive tried enough lol
sometimes your best isnt good enough 😛
somebody even made me profiles on the same gear
easiest way to eq is using squiglink to eq
Squiglink makes it pretty easy to creat bad profiles imo
oh wait that was a different one
I'm not talking about autoeq
I mostly use autoeq profiles with some minor adjustments
I'm talking about manually looking at a graph and changing values depending on what you see measured
i ''fixed'' headphones by buying better amplifier pretty much
so for example, what sticks out is the treble
you can easily reduce it with a peak filter on a higher q value
i much prefer using a pair of impulse responses from the same rig to convert the sound to something i like
you can also adjust the tilt
my new hardware mixer doesnt support impulse responses any more tho 😦
For me it's mosly just a matter of loading up an autoeq filter and changing things I don't like.
Often that means toning down the trebble a bit
Still I am not too picky as end of the days my ears get used to it.
i tried lowering bass on edition xs
and it felt really weird
like i was not supposed to do that
well you're lowering the wrong thing
look at a xs edition graph and look for things that may fix issues
on certain squigs there's definitions which help a ton
i definetly prefer to play around with the eq for a while before looking at squiggles
I like using listeners graphs and also super reviews graphs
https://listener.squig.link/
but there's plenty of reviewers that have graphs
if im gonna mess with things from measurements, i prefer to use impulse responses directly
.@Microsoft's stock market value crossed the $3 trillion milestone for the first time today, retaining its place as the world's second most valuable company, just behind Apple
I got a question for rapid trigger
if I just rest my fingers on the keys and they sink bit and i let go
would that still register as a click?
If you push past actuation, you're actuated. If you let go past rapid trigger on the way up, you can re-actuate WITHOUT letting go completely.
We go hands on with the all new ONEXPLAYER X1 3 in 1 Handheld! This is the first Intel Core Ultra powered handheld to hit the market and with the X12 we get a Massive 10.95” 120Hz Display! This is our First look video for the X1 and I have more videos coming up soon like testing out the new ONXEGPU over oculink on the X1 and Emulation testing.

I have a question in my nvidia geforce settings my voltage maximum is 0% should i higher it?
no
Thanks
Idk how in the world anyone got by with this thing
The mini truck has a AM raid with a single 2x3 inch paper speaker
That is mounted on the opposite side of the truck from the driver
Dunno if any of you guys run amd but i recommend running amd cleanup or ddu before switching to the 24.1 drivers since it's basically like installing the preview drivers
But the stable release version
Just doing a quick install gave me some odd issues in forza motorsports crashing on the shader compilation screen so thought i'd give you guys the heads up 🙂
my S24U has shipped
What are you upgrading from
S20 FE
Yeah that's a good jump
I went from a launch day iphone x to an iphone 14 pro when that got released and i was like damn its like night and day
yeah, 3-4 year upgrade cycle makes the most sense
Phone last longer but improvements still happen especially camera wise
5-7
Yeah 5 years i agree is a better jump
That's what i did personally
Ya its when ur device has become pretty much obsolete
I was still running the og battery lol
On my x
60% battery health but i worked from home so i always had a charger around and didn't give a fuck xd
once again, every major phone starts looking the exact same
basically a S24/+ from the front
Looks more like the Nothing Phone 2 from the front IMO cause of how curved the screen corners are
s24+ has much less curve
oh, its not curved at all
thats interesting
even rog phone ditched the large front facing speakers and rumor is xperia will do the same
Phone market is kind of a meme
It's fairly uninteresting nowadays
Increments over increments
Most of what you do on a phone is like
Discord youtube webbrowsing
Taking cat pics
Send an email, call ur grandma
speak for yourself, they are working real hard at making the zoom cameras useful, and the displays are getting alooooot better
But there's a point where it's "good enough" for most uses and i'd rather watch movies on my tv
and yet i cant bring my tv to work so i can watch stuff during lunch
nor does my tv work outside
what
baby phone
Still pocket
^
when im at work i pocket 2 phones
Depends what the pockets are on
Phone in one and keys in the other
Pocket is easier access
wtf is a murse
Oh
Man purse
get a fanny pack
My pockets work fine
Gives me road man vibes
do you know anything about Fantech keyboards?
No, Wooting is better
hmm yeh but im on a tight budget
wrong place to ask
wait arent they the dudes who do racing sim stuff
not fanatech
fantech
racism stuff LOL

there is probably much better budget options
A pro max wouldn’t be to bad tbh
asking the wooting discord for budget friendly options isnt exactly the best place
most people here would prefer to spend a pretty penny for a high quality product
cant wait it to still not wokr
My cat is a grand turismo 7 racist
My brother has gone all out on his sim setup
My brother spent over 1k on fanatech gear on Black Friday
And it hasn’t arrived
It took a tour around Germany then returned to fanatech
And there just ghosting him
😭
i literally just put my g920 on my desk
He doesn’t want to get the refund they offered
Because he got them on such a big discount
my desk is so thin the ffb makes all my monitors shake 🤣
https://www.dell.com/de-de/shop/alienware-27-gamingmonitor-aw2724hf/apd/210-bhtm/monitore-und-monitorzubehör
ive been thinking abt buying this one and i already got the money for it, should i?
Its not broken yet
though it weird that the S24 Ultra is the only flashship phone with sharp corners edge to edge
well i want that 360hz tho lol
27 inch 1080p🤮
Go 24 inch if you want 1080p
For office use 24inch 1080p is fine.
i already have a 27" 1080p monitor and i dont think it looks that bad imo
defo enjoyable
It does you just don't realize it
You do photography?
I will say I have used a 24inch 768p tv as a seconday monitor for a while. It is definitely usable.
Nice! I did some concert photography I did so stuff for an online magaizne. But I want to get into landscape and wild life stuff birds and all that
i already have a 27 inch one tho so id rather keep it the same size
When I can afford to both purchase and run 1440@240 I'll buy one
Idk if my 6900xt/5800x3d can handle 1440@240
1080p right now
My eyes are horrible hahaha I don’t eve. Know if I could play on a 17
I already have a hard enough time playing on my 24 sometimes hahaha
Id need the monitor so close to my face for playing stuff with longer range shooting
Yeah I play a lot of shooters fortnite Warzone counter strike
https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/news/geforce-rtx-4070-ti-super-rtx-video-hdr-game-ready-driver/
The GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER is 1.6X faster than the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti in the most graphically demanding games, and 2.5X faster using DLSS 3. Additionally, our new driver adds RTX Video HDR technology to all GeForce RTX GPUs, and is Game Ready for Enshrouded, Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth, TEKKEN 8, and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League...
Just.. convert?
Doesn't sound very authentic
repost smh
also still cant wait for it to not have any indicators to work like super resolution and not work for me
What games do you play
That's the main thing
And do you care about having less than 240hz
I will not use below 240hz
I play mainly fast paced fps
Cod/apex stuff like that
I'm fairly confident it cannot run 1440@240 on cod
got to love Xiaomi's customisable AOD text feature
AFAIK no other brand lets you add custom text to the AOD
you can tell a millenial by how much they want to die. body is beginning to disintegrate tee hee
oh then it's probably ironic. people at 50 enjoy life again
xd
hes got that english person sarcasm and whatnot
Xiaomi's HyperOS launcher is here, I've been testing it on the Poco X6 Pro 5G, and here's my review of the best features. While Hyper OS is very similar vs MiUI, you will find it's sleeker and smaller in size. And you also get all of the greatest features ported over, so your Xiaomi, Redmi or Poco phone will be packed with great tools.
Note tha...
HyperOS looks identical to MIUI but allegedly its more power efficient and smaller in storage size
MIUI was weirdly unresponsive on my Poco F2 Pro where the unofficial LineageOS is always snappy. it's amazing how much CPU power we manage to waste in this day and age
idk if I would go back to Xiaomi phones though, cause IDK if they improved their softare update situation or not...
custom rom solved it for me. I heard pixel experience is quite good (if you don't mind data mining)
I am as happy as a puppy that has just discovered his own balls, now that the OnePlus 12 is finally going global
TechSpurt
the Plus edition is even better <3 its what I use
gotta love independent smartphone development, it's stuck in the stone age
"here run this and trust me bro" and amazingly, that trust is rarely betrayed
samsung does, ive had my blood type on there for the past 9 years
oo
that will make it easy for vampires to identify your flavor
cloning the s21 design without understanding why it looked good
Unless you lower settings
Bump so big you’re almost guaranteed to touch it with your finger
i play all low with normal texture resolution and particle resolution
and get around 300-360fps
was also thinking about going am5 sometime this year
I'm just satisfied with 160fps at 5120x1440 max settings
im aware,
however it took a bunch of design features
mainly curving the edge of the camera bump around the side of the phone
ahhh
My display does 240hz but honestly... i'd rather have eye candy and i'd probably be cpu bound fairly quickly
Above 160hz
my eye candy is in the form of motion clarity
9700k + 7900xtx, yeah if i wanted "more competitive" fps by lowering settings or turning on FSR, i'd end up cpu bottlenecked xd
My review model has a rather generoud 16GB of RAM chucked in, I mean, thats more RAM than even your mum can handle and believe me, she can take some serious RAM action
TechSpurt
i believe im cpu bottlenecked as well
So i'd rather have the eye candy
in most modern games telling low - medium - high apart is getting increasingly difficult for me
Depends on the game
on cod the difference between low and medium is major
Yep
even on 1080p
in Overwatch 2 it could be either really. I see most things for 5-10 frames in total anyway
ironically it doesnt run well on low end hardware at all though
Yep
potato slice mode
But of course...
Replacement has arrived today and the issue is fixed.
Thank you @reef patrol
256GB of storage space as base but you can boost that to 512gb or an almighty 1TB if you've got a bit more cash to stuff inside of Samsung's metaphorical G-string
TechSpurt - Galaxy S24 Ultra review
and if there was a microsd slot you could triple that :/
To this day I have a 1tb sd card I don't use
As I got carried away with my steam deck
you know there is not gonna be an SD card slot on a flagship phone
That I barely actually play games on
that was removed years ago
70% streaming
Tbh I've never had a need for an SD card slot on my phone.
There's no headphone jacks anymore
lol

That's not flag ship
what
That's Sony Ship
its currently the flagship sony
I was trying to make a terrible joke
i really hope sony bumps the resolution and sensor size of the zoom lens to something competitive
im quite into hopium for the X1 VI
Reset it in Dec
Afmf allows to get past the 60fps cap in forza multiplayer
😎
For motorsports
And it looks dope
Ok it still has the latency of 60 but it looks like 120
🤢 if people enjoy it nice but I dont get how
Would you rather play at 60 no afmf or afmf 120
I can notice the added latency
Forza caps itself at 60 in multiplayer to make cross play "fair"
It's the perfect game for this kinda shit
Controller/wheel based
also that is a stupid way to make shit fair and should be review bombed or something
this aint a fighting game
I know
It's due to the physics engine
Players running at above 60fps could achieve better lap times
It's stupid af
It was an issue in horizon 5 as well
Is there a way to get the Wooting to not reset every time I unplug it?
But they never capped it so that the playerbase wouldn't get angry as rhe game had advertised "high refresh rate support"
But motorsports was a new game so they just chucked at in at launch
Move your profile to the top-most slot, it's the one keyboard boots into
But can you see why im happy @ashen spindle picture looks better + literally the perfect style of game where thr added input lag is less noticeable
And its capped at 60fps so it's either with or without
Thanks! Never would have figured that out
I feel like I'd still notice the higher input lag and while its not a fps it's still more noticeable than in some other games for me
but hey, it's still really funny to me that nvidia chose to jump into a software area that amd had already experience in instead of just doing something else lol
its really a shame how poorly their system works tho considering they have that 8x slowdown tech for video from yeaaaaaars back
when it was teased, i was hoping it was forward projecting considering how poor the quality was, but nope
I have iPhone 15 pro max with spigen case and trust me, that combo is heavy af
If you use it with one hand which is only possible when you have basketball hands
It will start hurting after 10+ minutes
Also, do you have iOS 17.3 already on your Pro?
https://gyazo.com/5f67a2b6d97d66d2651bc38192e1b5b0 any thoughts on build please guys?
For the love of God Almighty
Change that case to something cheaper and buy actual GOOD PSU
is bronze too bad?
all the ITX cases that are cheap either look too shit (imo) or are too shit thats why 😭
I can bump my PSU up by another like 40 bucks to get a gold np
gotcha cuz of the write speed or?
okay ty ill defo look into it
Im using it myself there are many testa done on YouTube where you can see yourself how good it is
appreciate the input this gonna be my long term pc
In most cases the efficiency rating (bronze, silver, gold etc) comes in pair with good internals but not always
I recommend picking something from this list:
From A tier
gotcha will check it out
i threw the cooler in last second 😭
Just pick something from tier A from the link i posted and you will be good
appreciate it
yeah i know but im gonna be listening to stuff so idc
Seasonic got best reliability on the market so far, their units break down veeery rarely
and apparently it sucks for most itx cases cuz theyre small and dont have that much cooling option
gotcha
Do you want itx case only?
ye absolutely, i dont want some chunky ass thing next to my face
no way 😭
back to the drawing board i guess
I looked at like 5 dif options that looks cool
eh idk ill keep looking
the thing is i dont want a pc that looks ugly as hell that im gonna use for at least the next 5-6 years. Cuz changing the case is long as hell. So kinda more long term investment
im not on a tight tight budget i can afford to go more
If your priority is aesthetics, no one other than you can help you. It’s very personal
i wasnt asking for help on aesthetics tho
Stuff case under desk. Problem solved
honestly i was just looking for like comments on the parts themselves and whether they compatible
Then go to pcpartpicker
some of the parts arent listed
If you are looking at a part so obscure that it isn’t on pcpartpicker, this might be the wrong place to look for specific help
Controller games are where i think framegen is the best
any part can be added to pcpartpicker using the url
You notice less latency since the input is less direct
Playing avatar frontiers of pandora with frame gen on i was noticing the latency more but it still felt good
ehhh minimally but i guess least worst would be something like that
Same case lol
i'd only consider the monitor sizes tbh
upscaling to 1440p looks better than upscaling to 1080p, with the improves pixel count. Using FSR/DLSS or lowering your render resolution a bit will look fine with similar performance.
or just get whichever fits better into your budget
also people only ever consider screen resolution in relation to your specs, when really what's more important is your settings
nothing wrong with turning your settings down a bit. Most modern games look gorgeous even at customized a mix of low/medium (and unappealingly cluttered at high settings IMO)
1080p if you want to run native
1440 if you don't mind upscaling or have a gpu upgrade planned
My husband is using my old 2080 (roughly 3060 ti perf) with a 1080p 144hz and it's a good fit.
The big question tho is what do you have currently and what games do you play? Single player? Mp esport? Theres so much more than just hertz and resolution, if you like single player games you want something with good colors and hdr that will make your games really pop 🙂
Panel type is also something to consider? TN, VA, IPS, OLED?
You gotta make sure you pick something that prioritizes what you actually do on your pc
^on that note too, different games will look better or worse at different resolutions. lots of games DGAF about having too much detail onscreen, so stuff like foliage or other complex geometry will shimmer like hecc without anti aliasing blurring up the place
meanwhile some games will look clean even if you upscale from below 1080p
Returnal for example lacks foliage and looks good at 1080p dlss quality but other games may look a little iffy
Good point
Which leads back to my question what does he do on his computer
monster hunter world looks horrendous at lower resolutions like native 1080p
meanwhile MH Rise looks okay even at 1080p, 70% render res
Also vram is to be considered, some games like halo infinite will use over 8gb of vram at 1440p ultra textures and lower texture quality to prevent a performance loss and make it look horrible.
3060 ti is an 8gb gpu
(also personally i strongly dislike the "multiplayer vs singleplayer games" thing people throw around. Multiplayer games can have tons of clutter or a focus on visuals, or be super casual. singleplayer games can be clean as hecc or have a high skill floor/ceiling. it's more about visual complexity and the need for clarity, speed and precision than whether or not a game has other players existing.)
True, my next question would have been... what genre of games do you play
Some sp games are clean and fast paced like doom eternal
Some focus on a more cinematic thing like RDR2
RE4R will gobble up something in the range of 10-12 at 1080p
:P
I know xD
That thing ate my 2080's vram
this is why I wish I had a 3060 instead of my 3070
1440p is also good for future proofing though
But now i have 24gb of vram 😎
A good display will last you so long it's a good investment
i don't exactly REGRET getting my current 1080p 390hz monitor, but, boy do i wish i had 1440p. I'd have gone for the 1440p 270hz option at the time if i had a few more hundred dollars
It will outlast your whole build
^this. very this
pretty sure my 1080p display is still going to be something I use till 2030 tbh
it's damn solid
IPS, 1ms GTG, 144hz
I'd rather have a 7900xtx and my samsung neo g9 rather than a 4090 and a shitty display
No hdr and you're a single player gamer
It seems pretty solid tho
i wish i could agree personally but, agh, so many games just want to fill every millimeter of your display with every color of the rainbow, and expect you to just blur your visuals to hell and back to obfcuscate the shimmering that inevitably comes with it. and i don't expect that trend to stop
that's...a different story
first, a G9 neo costs as much as a goddamn 4090
so that isn't the most fair comparison
only thing i've found alleviates it is using supersampling :/
Got my neo g9 for 1400cad brand new
🙂
especially for the price I paid
I think it was 220 CAD...4 years ago?
wooooooooooooooooooooooooooo OK
that's different
Best buy out of all places
Was on clearance as they wanted to make room for the 57 inch
😎
wow GG
I watched that thing since it released
DAILY
for a deal on it
I have wanted one for so long
OH ooone more thing i'd like to add to the monitor stuff- heeeealth.
eyestrain.
higher res = easier to focus your eyes on things
i personally needed the refreshrate more and that's part of why i got the monitor i did,
Btw if you guys ever get a neo g9 shipped to your house
motion clarity is a big deal to my eyes and brain
The box is gigantic its like a fuckingn fridge
actually, on the monitor question
I found one that really seems interesting to me
figure I'd pass the dogshit opinions bucket around
feel free to drop something in
https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0C15JDWF4
THE REVELATION OF LEGEND The MEG series is revealed as a legend that represents the ultimate elegance in gaming. With the determination of transcending current gaming products, the flagship models push the limits of what an extreme gaming series can be. QD-LED, Vivid, Sharp, Immersive - Innovativ...
and for me, visual clarity helps for mentally parsing things. modern games, again, have so much clutter and blur. any bit of help to make it easier for my eyes and brain to tell what i'm looking at is appreciated.
Yeah for work a higher res is really nice
Lemme check
my eyes are doing sooo much better now that i upgraded for motion clarity, and my next health-related goal is resolution.
Also what's up deb
so. IMO, if you're still looking for an answer, 1440p no question, if money's not an issue.
Agreed
going for this lian lee case instead
also fixed a bunch of parts 😭
the screen for me looks so cool and honeestly beats anything ive seen
you gotta install urself tho
i've never seen such a high quality DP cable like the one in the embed
Wanted to ask about how fast your battery is being drained up by apps
I do and I haven’t noticed any more drain than before
airflow is gonna be problem
I think the fans are in the side
How's LPCAMM2 better than on-CPU-die HBM3E
Wtf is that headline
The article doesn’t even mention amd or intel
And amd doesn’t even have plans to waste space for memory on package
This is what we likely will also get on desktop btw instead of ram sticks
I guess it'd better to have 2/4 slots for such modules on motherboard than sticks sticking out we have today, more space inside the case, more cooling solutions flexibility, more solutions for micro PCs...
Well it’s that but also we will get lpddr on desktop so easier to just make the same for laptop and desktop
Hmmm... is there any reason why we're still not using LPDDR in PCs?
Density, channel bandwidth, existing designs, but most importantly having to solder it
Would have needed better memory controllers in the cpus and we know how they can barely manage to make the current ones work lel
Ah
Will probably mean less memory OC options but that’s good, make the baseline higher keep it jedec and you don’t deal with xmp issues anymore
Our long-term objective is to make printing a subscription. This is really what we have been driving
Lores
HP bad

Maybe I dunno... don't have such complex fucking chips? Just have them store simple ass, passive values instead of being full on mini computers? 😛
EU intrudes yet again for consumer's sake
All hail the EU
X3D always launched later in gen

It can launch sooner
If intel makes a better product to compete with
Aka not going to happen for zen5
I like how ARL is just destined to suck
Is not the case fits 10 fans
I’m gonna have aio on the right side of case
3 fans at bottom
3 at top
One at back
In 1990, the hot new trend in the video game industry was handheld systems. The Nintendo Game Boy and Atari Lynx battled for the market, while NEC and Sega had consoles on the way. But there was another handheld coming you may not have heard of: The Express. It was from a small company called BDL Enterprises, and the idea was impressive: A porta...
Quick xd
Too quick
i mean all they really needed to fix were bugs, faster chip, and usb4
it really depends on what exactly they change
is it a new SoC or just software and screen changes like steam deck did
well tbf steam deck also got a new wifi chip
Lol
They needed to fix the dying sd cards too
please tell me how thats not a bug?
Because they physically die, it's not a software bug 😛
did you know that its still called a bug if its in hardware?
Nah it's called a defect or a hardware flaw
Again another horrible Pixel bug?
Disappointing phones
Google's pixel division is a meme at this point
those are not the same as a bug
Wish they didn't sell so well
But an sd card getting overheated due to the bad insulation/placement of the reader is a flaw not a bug
a defect is when the design isnt matched by reality
a flaw covers defects and bugs
and a bug is when the design is wrong
ah so you are just trolling, k
Seems that wouldn't be the case
Zen 5 in middle of this year, X3D in early next year
April announcement, not launch right?
Zen 5 isn't even in full production though right?
yes it is
I expect May/June launch at earliest
before june, they arent going to launch it right before computex
this would likely need new socket but also isn't something client would really benefit from
boring is fine if its fast
I take 8 cores that probably beat 12
What about 8/16 Zen 5 with 4/4 Zen 5 dense
Would be cool to see how good would proper mini-cores be on desktop and not in a laptop
idk why you want dense cores on pc
Why does Intel want e-cores?
you arent on battery so why kill 2ghz of clockspeed
I suppose offloading certain workloads to more efficient smol cores would be beneficial
Like browsers, file explorers, etc
or you just take the beefy cores and dont care about using a watt more on pc
What do you exactly mean with killing clockspeed?
X3D is slower than the normal chips, why would a chip with dense cores be?
I knew there was a reason that I kept putting off my phone update
Guess that phone updates need to be treated like Windows ones... Maybe consider getting around to installing them 3-6 months after release
Or never cause phone updates are like nowhere near as meaningful as the typical windows security update is
Every phone I’ve had has suddenly stopped being usable overnight on a major OS update 3-4 years into ownership
My current strategy is to update out to 2-2.5 years and then ride it out with no more updates until the wheels fall off
Such is life in planned obsolescia
But this is tinfoil conspiracy theory and it totally isn't a thing
Already losing my 3rd smartphone to slowdown
I’ve seen something about the companies getting sued for doing that. They were slowing down phones with updates or something.
there was one apple update that did it yeah
Slowdown is easy imo to understand anyways, mid-range phones and under are just slow enough that over time SoC can't handle it
I wonder if 8 gen X SoCs are fast enough to not care for updates
ive been really happy with my current phone
im on software update 3
and the 14 upgrade has made it decently faster
and i didnt even bother wiping before the update
i have not noticed any slowdown either, it brought a lot of nice qol features in fact
I remember seeing a thing about all the companies doing that. A lot of the companies are greedy and they do stuff like that
https://www.cnet.com/tech/mobile/apple-and-samsung-fined-for-slowing-down-phones-with-updates/
I know but they are definitely doing stuff like that.
Idk how Apple deals with updates nowadays since their chips are speedy, but Android definitely had a problem with slowdown
well no not definetly
These companies are so greedy.
The faster the SoC, the less slowdown you get, so I'm of the opinion update based slowdown should be somewhat an issue of the past with 8 gen 3 SoC or so
people do constantly check for these things now and unless they have some code magic that removes limits so that nobody notices it during any sort of benchmark it isn't happening anymore
Okay
My old iphone x is still usable, the battery is just shit on it xd
Cuz its in need of replacement
just buy a new phone lol
I did I upgraded to the 14 pro when it released
Storage + camera improvements mainly
And well obviously it's a little faster
Like i can have more apps open at once
I'm just saying that phones nowadays are fast enough that they don't as much slowdown anymore
At least for everyday tasks
Like I could have seen myself swapping the battery and keeping on using it, just wanted to get other improvements
Kept the thing for 5 years so... yeah there's been improvements made since xd
yep, mostly in displays tbh
if you wanna use a phone outside in the sun, its gotten aloooot better relatively quickly
The x had a nice display tho
i never had an outright x
the XR display was awful
x is around 600 nits fullscreen
worth around double the nits of an equivalent lcd
modern oleds tho easily pass 1200
Yeah the 14 pro is insanely bright
daylight readable is generally 1000 for oleds 2000 for lcds
direct sunlight redable needs more than that, no phones have that yet, but the s24u is getting close
my 15 pro is much nicer than my old xr
The xr was a strange phone
most readable display in bright light i have is honestly my kobo libra 2, but besides that its my phone with 2300 nits of max brightness
You could buy a refurb or used x for the same price or cheaper
But people bought the xr
????
what does it do in daylight tho
Kobo is eink
its eink
no i mean the 2300 nits
Eink in sunlight works very well
most phones cant max out their panels when in the sun
ah well its more readable than my old 11, thats what i mean
the x peaks at 1200 but its 600 in the sun
my watch does 20k nits but thats because its similar to eink tech
retroflexive?
yep!
real sad that theres only 1 ish phone with a retroflexive screen and its black and white only
even just the 16 colors of my watch would be massively helpful
which phone is that? i dont think ive heard of it
there was a tcl that went out of production, and i forget the name of the new company who has been doing it
ah yeah i heard about tcl doing it, the other one i think was hisense? they've put out quite a few models like that recently if im not mistaken
hisense a9 is a phone but its eink, trying to find the transflexive one tho
ah righ
this is the only one i could but it is a tablet https://goodereader.com/blog/reviews/unboxing-the-hisense-q5-rlcd-android-tablet
Hisense has released their first tablet with an transflective LCD display. It needs ambient light reflection to achieve screen clarity, so you need a light source. There is no backlight display, so unlike traditional LCD screens, there is nothing shining into your eyes. One of the key selling points of the Q5, is that you can run Android apps an...
yea i could have sworn they made a single smartphone but i cant find it again
yup
maybe i was mixing up with the hisense that had a normal eink on the back and a normal lcd on the front
ah yeah that could be it
lol battery must last ages if youre only using eink most of the time with 3800mah
hm yea good point
dont think it would work here either
maybe, there was this phone called lightphone with similar bands i think, that was a big hit and miss here too
price is honestly pretty great lol
only 20 usd more for double the storage
this is not a new device
Oh
2020 first reviews
Still common back then
it was getting more common but it still wasnt guaranteed
either way point is we want a color rlcd like garmins use but full phone sized
extremely visible in the sunlight
Here is the full review of the Hisense Q5 RLCD Tablet. This device is quite different from the Hisense E INK Phones, since it is using a RLCD monochrome display. The advantages is that there is no backlight, so it is easy on the eyes and you need an ambient light source to use it. Video, gaming and reading is lightning quick, due to the hardwar...
and very responsive
and the lack of a backlight is stupid, you do need it for use in the dark
this is why i cant stand the remarkable 2, around 400usd note taking tablet, pen with eraser is another 100 and it doesnt even have a backlight lmao
pain
yea for tablets im in the gimme speed camp, i havent used them as much in the sun as my phone
generally seek refuge in my car or indoors to use a tablet
the surfaces from work have been great
yeah notetaking on my ipad in sunlight isnt the best experience, but fine inside in classrooms
really curious how far the foundry plan has come along when they have the yearly talk next month
will be big talks but I wonder how much customer volume we will really see
Anything
there
theres the source
If anything, aren't they in actuality getting more open cause sideloading will be more reliable now cause of EU regulations?

and enable it in the Dev settings on the phone
That doesn't seem like an issue
I need an LG developer account to jailbreak their TVs
im in europe but not in the EU, so i wont get access to sideloading 😐
Don't you have to pay $100/yr to have dev account on Apple?
you can already do that right now but theres jank like it vanishing after some time
Just buy a phone that's sold in EU?
Just don't buy Apple
Never buy Apple
I'm guessing they'll use the serial number
i doubt its that simple, this is apple after all lol
Why wouldn't i
Cause it's Apple
yea pretty sure
I enjoy my iPhone personally
apple has different tiers of dev account
aha
But seriously both ios and android are good
again define good
And blanket statements about don't buy x don't buy y are dumb
I've switched between both oses
recommendations to someone you dont know sure
but i know i wont be able to daily an iphone for personal for quite a while
even tho ive been dailying an iphone for work for 2 years
To me my phone is something i buy, keep for 5 years and watch youtube make calls take cat pics with
The only benefit to android is emulation for me personally
And well... i'd rather grab another device than a phone to emulate classics on
my phone is also my flashlight, a flash drive, a hotspot, phone, and pager
the iphone has reduced the pain as a camera and flashlight to a minimum
Am i a wierdo for still having proper flashlights around the house
everything else is still quite poor
Like it i want a flashlight i want a real flashlight
im often not at home, and i dont edc a flashlight because my phone has one thats actually good
LMAO
honestly you're right, I barely leave the housexnowadays
Besides like... getting groceries
Basic shit
I went outside twice this week, groceries and taking out the trash
what happened to the ducky keyboards website
Don’t know don’t care
ok?
what happened to the ducky keyboards website
Ducky had a website?
ye
wootings trash ducky better
It aeems to work
Ok Fortnite man
YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
fuck off
Very.. aggressive
but yea theres no good youtube app for iphone, using an iphone as a flash drive is a pain outside of macos, calling is a pain since it doesnt have t9 and it doesnt search half your contacts even if you go to the contacts menu, and the vibration isnt strong enough to act as a pager
Please educate yourself on Wooting vs ducky 👍
I steal youtube premium from my dad for youtube 🧠
Can we get your shite trolling off the tech channel
I agree
Fuck off to #archived_keebs_talk
i'd still use vanced while being subscribed to youtube. i agree it has a lot of nice features
I hate you, I keep thinking you’re 3 different people typing 😭
i have premium as well, but the stock app doesnt support swipe to change brightness or volume while in video, nor does it have amoled black, nor sponsorblock or returnytdislike
Can't you now actually properly sideload without the 2 week limitations thingy in EU so Vanced equivalents are a thing on iPhone
im in norway, no eu member state so i wont get sideloading
Just.. drive to Sweden and get a phone there
my apple id is tied to norway lol
too much work with how much stuff i have on here and besides i cant be bothered to get a new phone number and all
Why is this a thing
Data was always just locally stored
Why is "account" a thing now
has been for as long as i can remember
Well prolly in apple ecosystem
As an android system user it's fairly new in my eyes
i dont mind though, features like find my phone and icloud are convinient to me

i think most manufacturers these days are trying to cash in on cloud storage 😂
I get why
and whatever else subscription, AI in particular now I guess
But I just like how 99% of smartphone features are useless for me
I wish I could pay less for phones cause I use none of their features
get a pixel slap graphene os on it and move to the woods
Not buying a Pixel ever in my life
lol
Fuck google
I managed to halve my google usage anyways, I only use google when Bing is completely useless
For how much I hate Google, they have the best results
They are still offering 1tb of storage tho which is pretty neato
I don’t care much about privacy so I just use whatever gives me the best value and features honestly
Oh that’s cool
Charging out the ass for it but no shocker there
I'm kinda tempted to get the s24u because it's $900 for 1tb for me
Yeah I see they have a 512 gb for the price of 256 here too
Ooh with trade-in $740
Real tempting but I really want the better focusing from the Xperia 1 6
Theoretically
And the theoretical better zoom
Personally like the idea of having a cheap-enough phone to not have to worry about it falling or getting damaged.
My requirements are also not that high in terms of specs. Just want root, at least 500gb storage (could be micro-sd) and okay performance.
Will probably use my poco x3 pro for a while and see at the time it either dies or becaomes too slow.
reasonable, but i intend to use my phone for between 2000 and 3000 hours, and so i find that even minor improvements add up over time
Fair enough, for me it's mostly reading articles, reading wikipedia and looking something up. With the occasional photo which still looks okay enough using the google camera app.
Also listening to music I forgot to mention, that's what takes the storage.
i frequently use my phone as a monocular, so a zoom camera that outperforms my eyes is a requirement
i use the phone as storage for photos from my cameras, so thats where my storage goes
Still does that reasonably well, especially combined with a microscope lens from aliexpress.
Not the greatest things out there but can be useful
zoom?
Basically lots of zoom very close focal range
i mean far away small things
ah
signs, barcodes
Still outperforms my eyes with glasses on but yea definitely not the best out there.
ive used my personal phone to zoom in on a barcode and then scanned the barcode with the work phone when the work phone cant do well enough
That does howver sound rather niche
in my previous job the inventory was on very high up shelves halfway across the store
and the inventory system was buggy since it used ios devices
now i just use it to avoid having to bend down when reading tiny labels
my current workplace has stuff stacked floor to headheight in a tiny room, bending up and down to check every single stack is painful after too long
Thinking about it I actually have a yearly use for lots of zoom .
At work our water meter is down a hole which is always partially filled with groundwater, so lowering a camera down and taking a picture it is.
But I don't know if a better camera helps much, it's mostly just that the meter gets dirty and needs to be cleaned with a broom/
is it the sort of thing where if you had binoculars or a monocular you would be able to see it? thats where the zoom on the phone can help
if its too dark and you need to lower light as well, it wont help
samsung's old 10x zoom was particularly awful at low light
the new one should be better but reviews are incoming
intel earnings are out
holy
Hasn't Intel kinda just been dead in the water with Gelsinger?
Mobileye is computer visions for cars primarily if I remember correctly
Oh god another one of those self driving things
idk what to tell you it's literally on the image what IFS is
No it's not?
cick on it
Like the name "Foundry Services" literally means nothing to me
Like, Intel selling fab spaces?
Well that is what it is yea.
There's a program called "Foundry" and they are selling it?
Fuck do I know what Foundry is
I guess it's just fabbing then
semi serious question did you hit your head the last year or something
"The foundry model is a microelectronics engineering and manufacturing business model consisting of a semiconductor fabrication plant, or foundry, and an integrated circuit design operation, each belonging to separate companies or subsidiaries."
IFS is them spinning out fabs as its own business so others can make chips on them like tsmc/samsung/gf
thats been going on for like 3 years or so
That I hadn't heard of before
Kind of a widely accepted term to be honest, but I guess everyone misses some things.
hidden in the desktop market
Those foundries sure aren't making that much money though in the grand scheme of things
But I guess since they use their own process, it saves money long term and props up CCG income
they have basically no customers still
Arc is cool but no one actually buys it
Or really wants it
For now
Exactly
it wont change in the future either
Intel has a lot of work to make to get rid of the shitty igpu association
Probably not
So therfore it proves the pojnt
I tend to just go all AMD
Unless Intel decides to undercut AMD in price and performance
Because the reason I buy AMD over Nvidia is price and performance advantage
Yep and no one buys it
arc is competitive because of the price not because of the product
I dunno how Intel will manage to be even cheaper than AMD and beat them in perf at mid-high end but I am waiting for those days
but it's like amd selling the 7900xtx for 500$ on launch, great for consumer, great for killing your company in a few years
Its the the whole i want amd to lower prices so that i can buy nvidia when it lowers the prices too
No one buys intel because it's not what they want
They have a good product it's just... no one wants it
But AMD has nothing really that I do want?
They want amd or nvidia
Nvidia has CUDA that I do want
Intel can only invent something Nvidia doesn't have
AMD is just cheaper so I buy AMD
If Intel can make a better offer I guess I'll buy Arc
While Intel is making less profit than amd, they are theoretically making money back from their prototypes / dev kits
They already did tho, the a770 was such an insane deal
Not for intel
A770 is nowhere near the performance it should be
And aren't those dies just massive so they cost a crap ton to make?
It's a huge chip and it's fab Ed by tsmc
yeah the issue is next gen likely is still a dev kit
and also late again since its coming after rdna4
But for the price it competes very well
In the mid range
The real problem is the drivers
They're improving but far from perfect
For me at least the real problem is the performance
Better to sell it than just have it stuck in the lab
cough scc, larabee,
I am sitting on a 6 year 350$ card and Intel is barely a minor upgrade over it
With amd, their drivers have improved significantly which made me comfortable enough to switch to the 7900xtx
They still have work to do but they've improved
sure but that aint a sustainable way to operate for long lol
Collectors...? Lol
What a meme
... so you buy gpus to... never use them
Have them sit on a shelf as a decoration
Nobody does Arc testing nowadays after all the driver updates
Isn't there an upcoming Arc driver update as well with massive perf boost?
All benchmarks are old, sad
Like, it's just funny how
I am sitting on a 350$ card from 2018, the RX 5700
And it's about same performance as a 300$ card from 2022
So, why am I supposed to buy Arc?
I'd rather spend 150$ more for a 6800XT/6900XT/6950XT/7800XT/7900GRE and get a major 50% or so performance boost
Arc is just so.. not there
Although if anything that just shows how RX 5700 was actually pretty nuts for the price it launched
I get FSR3?
5700 aged badly
I couldn't care less for raytracing
operating income being close to 0 doesn't mean it's sold at price 😛
20 series aged better overall
Lol no it didn't
20 series doesn't even get DLSS3, they have to resort to FSR3
And 20 series had a legendarily mediocre RT performance even back then
Rt worked well imo, played control bf5 had my fun
It took time before we got games tho
But dlss and dx12u is why i got a 20 series in the first place
4B revenue = no customers? O.O
I'll just say FSR got good with fsr3 but holy shit
no customers for IFS not for DCAI
Fsr2 looks like ass
I played with FSR2 and I couldn't bat an eye at any artifacts
Would I rather get Nvidia for DLAA? Yes
Yeah low customer amount but up 100% yoy, great growth.
But I am not spending more than what AMD asks
I use xess instead of fsr generally
