#

It's funny cause it seems in practice it makes no difference lel

unkempt lake
#

All 8 have it you're confusing with the 7900x3d

#

And it's only 6 who have it on the 7900x3d/7950x3d

#

It performs worse than the 7800x3d for that reason

cursive summit
#

Nobody talks about 7900X3D

#

Only 7950X3D matters havo

unkempt lake
#

You get what i mean tho

#

They both have the same "issue"

cursive summit
#

Ah yeah found a TPU article about it

#

7800X3D seems fine, only the higher end X3Ds are halved

#

Meh, still fine imo

#

After all, only single core performance matters havo

#

We are entering an era where dual and maybe, just maybe quad core matters havo

#

This post brought to you by Intel gang

cursive summit
#

Well no, cause E cores are trash

unkempt lake
#

It's kinda strange tho seeing intel have more cores

#

Even tho they're ecores

cursive summit
#

14900K has just 8 normal cores so Intel for all intents and purposes has only half the 7950X cores

unkempt lake
#

Its still odd seeing it

#

I know

#

I'm just pointing out how its odd

cursive summit
#

Makes sense why it's competing with 7800X3D which is an 8 core

#

I wonder if AMD will bring 5c cores to desktop

unkempt lake
#

I didn't believe amd when they were promising years of upgrades on am4 back in 2017 it seemed a little too idealistic and the 2700x wasn't wotth it for high refresh rate 1080p gaming which was what i wanted to do back then

#

I'm just hoping they'll be as good with am5 but i still don't trust them lol

rotund crypt

thats weird, you know why that happens?

Nowadays? Still great for viewing, but not eyeblowing

What 5 years of usage does

#

No visible burn-in on my end though, I guess cause it wasn't used for gaming much

#

(or maybe cause LG tends to silently run pixel refresher apparently if you shut down the TV without you knowing about it)

#

Which I am dead set against, it's as much "pixel refreshing" as it is degrading the lifetime of the TV even more

rough osprey
ashen spindle
#

It’s not really degrading the lifetime if you pixelshift

NVIDIA today announced its RTX 4080 Super, RTX 4070 Ti Super, and RTX 4070 Super refresh GPUs. Each of these is potentially interesting from a different angle: The 4080 Super gets a big price change, down to $1000, while the 4070 Ti Super pushes the memory capacity and bandwidth, and the 40...

ah almost forgot heres text on my local recording setting with nvidia replay to 50Mbps and the text on youtubes max bitrate when I give it up to 30

#

first one is a lot clearer, text is the most obvious one

astral haven
#

thats shockingly good

ashen spindle
#

I cant actually see what bitrate the final youtube video is

astral haven
#

h264 or 5 at that bitrate would be a yellow blob

ashen spindle
#

oh yeah its nice, just still far away from what I use locally

#

also for some reason its darker

#

idk if that is normal with lacking bitrate like that or if something else is funky

#

oh I guess it might be because its not av1 for the viewr, derp forgot what I said myself

smoky frigate
#

the darker color is probably an optical effect due to bitcrunch

astral haven
#

still a mistake somewhere along the line

ashen spindle
#

I bet its from the encoding from av1 to vp9 or however its done

astral haven
#

yup
I wonder if youtube has av1 transcode hardware yet

#

i also wonder if a raspi 3 would handle a 1080p30 av1 stream with cpu decoding

smoky frigate
#

if you take a sample of the brightest spots in each example, they are still quite close. the average is definitely a lot darker, due to blocking and the filtering thereof

astral haven
ashen spindle
#

so there its not as much

#

its not making it unwatchtable but it's really easy to notice when I tab out to see if it works

smoky frigate
#

on a positive note, you may see it in close to original quality in about a decade, when encoding standards are higher

ashen spindle
#

I think once they just let people see av1 and not encode that when they get it it will work

#

which hopefully wont take a decade

#

yeah idk dont think it shows the actual bitrate of the video just what your connection is

smoky frigate
#

youtube has been reencoding everything since before the h.264 days, you could get a lot of visual quality out of it in the early FLV days

smoky frigate
astral haven

has anyone figured out what bitrate youtube 1080p premium is?

smoky frigate

it's an old article but gives some insight how the big players are doing it

#

I'm sorry, that was the wrong post lol

#

I meant this one

astral haven
#

what really sucks is that the 1080p premium doesnt apply to videos uploaded above 1080p
wouldnt the higher resolution vids be the best candidates to provide a higher quality low res option?

smoky frigate
#

??? they really should

#

I downscale a lot of my too-big-for-the-movie 4K rips to great quality 1080p ones that look way better than the original HD releases

#

I know that it's due to the master more than other factors

astral haven
#

and i upscale my 4k recordings to 8k to upload to youtube lel

smoky frigate
#

I don't understand, why lol

astral haven
#

im recording at 600mbps
my last vid was recorded at 100mbps but sped up 60x so technically 6gbps
YT 4k is 20ish mbps

smoky frigate
#

oic. that's a workaround for now. it'll look bad in some years but still

astral haven
#

nah

#

well yes but itll look bad because of the 8k encode, not the upscaling

#

also its technically only doubling the pixel count as my cam records 4:2:2 not 4:2:0 at 100mbps

#

i plan to upscale, then speed up, as by default davinci is the other way around, but its alot of work

#

and would take an incredible amount of time to render

smoky frigate
#

I get it, I had to do something similar for a music video I found on a CD. it was like a 200mb mpeg2 file, bitcrushed to death. I pulled what detail I could out of it, with avisynth

ashen spindle
#

just some hours left for youtube to convert this 1 minute video surely dogekek

smoky frigate
#

had to upscale it to 1080p for youtube because uploading it at 480p would have reverted all my work lol

(this was all before AI)

astral haven

ikr
i just use topaz now

#

while it is a subscription, they (for now) let you keep using the last version you were subscribed to after you stop paying

smoky frigate
#

AI is cool but currently introduces its own distinct artifacts that your brain can't unsee when you find them lol

astral haven
#

youd be surprised

#

it does require a bit of tweaking, but some of the processing modes are nearly artifact free

smoky frigate
#

will you run my raw capture of the PAL VHS of the E.T. porn through it for me?

astral haven
#

the what

smoky frigate
#

joke, I would never do that to you

ashen spindle
astral haven
#

but yea its more for the higher quality inputs that you can get an output that looks better without visible artifacts

#

you are only getting a percent or two of extra IQ, which for a terrible quality video doesnt help much

smoky frigate
#

pretty much all of the stuff I would do that to is from magnetic tapes or 480i DVD content

astral haven
#

which topaz can clean up but therell be artifacting

gusty kiln

gusty kiln

obviously, buy my PSU can't handle a 4090 at stock

4090 is relatively low actual power

it just has a really high tdp

smoky frigate

launch gpu into orbit and make it technically the fastest gpu in the universe

gusty kiln

750W, prob fine unless I turn on all the highest ray tracing

ashen spindle

I run mine with a 650W psu dogekek

and any rt game that doesnt have dlss is a waste, and dlss also lowers power consumption

smoky frigate
#

DLSS is fucking goat I love it so much

#

anti aliasing and faster performance in one

gusty kiln
#

yeah, DLSS in the finals is actually usable for a fps

#

at least at quality

astral haven
#

depends on output res

#

at 4k you can do performance usually

gusty kiln
#

at 1440p

ashen spindle
#

hahahaha

smoky frigate
#

I learned a while ago that it was originally conceived and marketed as a downscaling AA, until some bright mind at nvidia came up with the idea of reversing the scaling I guess

ashen spindle
#

guess leo will bring a usb stick with a game and benchmark now to future events to use that if they benchmark something that wont crash

#

74W on a 28w laptop chip is very intel though

astral haven
#

yea

#

such a shame

#

amd cant get their idle in check, intel cant get their load in check

gusty kiln
#

yeah, pretty much all the low powered nas uses intel cuz single digit idle

#

except the new Synology for some reason

astral haven
#

thats a different story

#

the atom based chips are completely different

ashen spindle
#

^

#

atoms and big cores are different teams

astral haven
#

8 intel E cores use less power when active than a single P core

#

E= atom

ashen spindle
#

the small core teams at intel are doing great, it's the big cores that are shitting it up

#

as for amd idle I got no clue if we get any meaningful improvement before zen6 there

gusty kiln
#

some N100 and N300 are coming though

#

N300 makes things spicy

n##0 series are still atom too

theres the n100 dual screen laptop on ali that im kinda interested in but nah tbh

N100 is 4 core I think

N300 is 8 core

astral haven

yea n300

#

n100 dunno the power of

gusty kiln

like 8 watts

astral haven

thats tdp

astral haven
ashen spindle

think on laptop amd is closer to that number at least

astral haven
#

define closer

ashen spindle
#

compared to how desktop parts stretch it

astral haven
#

if you run an intel at constant load, its dead on

ashen spindle
#

and certainly closer than that intel chip lmao

#

actually while GNR uses the same io die mobile aside from halo is a monolithic block

#

I guess they could change uncore or whatever it is to drop idle

#

but idk if we do see much change still

I am really annoyed at the AI crap so that amd only talked about xdna and shit today and only mention strix point in passing once xD

astral haven

another common grievance is that third party ink ceases to work once you subscribe to instant ink

Nvidia is funny one. Either Jensen is genious or luckiest mofo on earth.
He has catch all the relevant supertrends in the last 20-30 years.

  1. He catch the PC gaming wave
  2. Server/Crypto craze
  3. AI wave

So im not betting against him but odds are against him for the next super trend in 10 years 😄

AI needs top end hardware, in massive quantities, like every year or other year

latent mural

oh i misread

cursive summit

That hardware is in the tens of thousands of dollarydoos

ashen spindle

yeah and the money to pay for it comes from where?

cursive summit

Top corps

#

And startups

ashen spindle

and they get the money from where

venture capital

cursive summit
ashen spindle

and that dries up if you dont monetize it

pale sigil
#

I just kinda wanna seperate my gaming and desktop enviroment, but i also wanna mount a small device under my desk.

ashen spindle
#

cheaper than buyinh a nuc and have that as well as the powerconsumption on it

i rekon the steam deck would be good but pulling so much from a single USB C port seems to have so many issues .

ashen spindle
#

also having a second pc for tiny things will not be cheaper than the additional io powerdraw from running your desktop for some years

Thing is rightr.

#

All i ever do on my PC is game which in itself is rare.

#

I use my tab for 90% of everything i do.

pale sigil

seems you vastly overestimate what it actually does, it's not like booting your pc to watch videos is putting the gpu in 100% powerdraw
