Golden masking tape is the only good one ?
Just get some painter's tape.
Ok appreciate you bro
It's not rocket science. One brand isn't going to make a difference to another.
Yh ik I just dk which one
People say different stuff
graphene tape for extra performance
So itβs confusing asf
taping keyboard kinda cringe ngl
get any tape that's thin and orange, it'll be alright for months
@ionic knot if only we had wilkos.....
then it may turn to sticky goo and you'll have to remove it. if I were to stick any tape for long term use anywhere, it'd probably be 3M black gaffer tape, that stuff lasts very long
Just use glue, that'll definitely dampen the noise.
if I were to do any mods it would probably be foam removal, it makes it sound a lot more crisp
Kind of don't like the wet noodle sound of a dampened keyboard
from the video it starts to sound like a membrane keyboard
https://arstechnica.com/ai/2023/12/ai-created-virtual-influencers-are-stealing-business-from-humans/
Oh boo hooo
Lol
Finally decided to quantify the light gathering capabilities of the phones ive been looking at + cam for scale
x1vi super unknown but that could be correct
and yes the s21u through s24u get worse after 3x due to samsung using a tiny sensor tiny aperture camera that is worse than the main sensor digitally cropped
I've actually been thinking of switching to the Xperia for my next device to get back the headphone jack
i want xperia for the sd card, i already have myself a btr3k for the hp jack
and really looking forward to the "large sensor zoom"
I've also thoighr about just getting an dap, or something like the btr.
But been suffering from indecision, so many choices
and if you get an xperia you dont have to worry about it lel
im very focused on camera quality in my phone tho
tbh id love a rx100 camera module on the back of my phone
keep it 1 inch, make it a 12/48mp sensor
Can I use my 60HE to acess bios and whatnot? You know, since we don't have F keys or delete π€
Basically I was wondering if the FN keys work as normal even outside windows
No f row, no use
What is she software support like?
Samsung offers 5 years
Sadly looks like 2 years OS updates, and 3 years security.
vs Samsung's four years of One UI upgrades and five years of security updates.
Should be a minimum of 7 years
yes, FN is a keyboard thing, not a windows thing
5 is fine for me, but 7 is excellent
Yup
But Noone else has complete packages of phone hardware
Samsung skips 3.5 and SD to get you to pay more, most others skimp on the cameras in some aspect, and Sony is the only company focused on camera speed particularly for focusing and subject tracking
Most phones have 2013 mirrorless level tracking
And Sony has their autofocus system from their current mirrorless cams
Rumour mill says next Xperia Pro is going to have a physical ring to adjust focus
They are doing a new Pro?
The rumours lately have been that Sony is abandoning Xperia branding
Looks like it's a maybe
https://www.notebookcheck.net/Sony-Xperia-Pro-II-tipped-to-launch-with-manual-control-for-variable-aperture-lens.784918.0.html
The Xperia Pro-II is tipped to launch as even more of a camera phone than Sony's current Android flagship in 2024. The handset is also now believed to launch with a new camera hump containing something heretofore unseen in the mobile device world: actual manual zoom for a main shooter. Then again, the leak behind it is very much open to interpre...
Actually really cool
Xperia just remains the best phone brand
Absolutely no compromises, great quality
And they don't go out chasing trends and cutting features like Apple and Sammy do
That's why I've started considering them. I moved from the Note 9 to the S22, and I have not been happy with how they cut some features
Lack of 3.5mm jack nowadays I can somewhat deal with, but it's still a bummer for IEMs or headphones when I go out
I refuse to tolerate lack of SD or SIM card slot
How are people completely fine with being ripped off of expandable storage
And like, it's been proven already, those features cost little to nothing, and occupy little space, there's no reason for them not to exist
.. unless you just want consumer to buy your TWS buds and peripherals
Is huawei still relevant?
In this neck of the woods there's been a massive market takeover by Xiaomi
Nearly everything is just Xiaomi
i personally switched from Huawei to Xiaomi after they stopped using Google
I am on Xiaomi now but ods are in favor of my next smartphone being a fairphone. Still a custom rom user and options are limited. I will say custom roms are not a must but root most definitely is. Even if in a practical sense I can work without it. I hate the idea of not being able to do or try to debug something just because I don't have enough access on my own device.
Anyone know if its possible to make more custom lighting on my Wooting 60HE?
the app already has a bunch of options but I wanna get like a custom color moving gradient
Not with the app for the time being. You'd have to use a third party RGB app like SignalRGB or similar.
Alright, thanks Mansen
loving the keyboard still tho π
got some new pudding keycaps for christmas and they look soooo nice π

An alleged photograph of the first known i9-14900KS sample has been shared by HXL.Β Alleged i9-14900KS CPU, Source:HXL While speculations regarding a potential Special Edition of the i9-14900K processor have been circulating for several months, there were no concrete leaks directly involving this S...
They made room heater 14900K into universe heater
Intel is literally so architecturally behind the best they can do is just overclock to extreme levels to compete with Ryzen
That Ryzen efficiency is insane
It's still impressive that it can scale that high though. But lol, too hot for me
why is this news this is some 2 month old picture
I mean it's not like it's a new cpu or anything it's just a 3% clockspeed bumped 13900ks.
my apple tv remote may had some problems
just non stop sending ir signals to make my soundbar louder xD
Sounds fun.
ye my poor neighbors
"Room heater" would be quite nice now with -30Β°C
Only closer to the polar circle.
Most of Scandinavia where people actually live is around 0
Doesn't seem like the cold will stay for long
Seems it'll pop back to above 0 in a week
Which is just sad, where the cold winters gone
We've had a blizzard all day here.
Well I say blizzard. It's mostly strong winds and snow that melts on contact.
I want some -30Β° but only around -15Β° here
Turn off the sauna.
ahh damnit, that's it
does it make you ultrapoor
Presumeably
32 inches π
yo guys! can some one please help me understand one thing in regards to magnetic switches? So, wooting ones do support "gradual press" (variable pressure, controller joystick simulation, call it whatever) so it's easier to drive cars/planes etc. Is that the case for all of them? Drunk deer appears to NOT allow that, how about akko? Is it switch specific or keyboard implementation/firmware specific? Thank you!
afaik DrunkDeer only implements basic Rapid Trigger, Akko does DKS on top of it, but none of them emulate gamepad inputs yet, that's Wooting exclusive
ahh ok thanks! as a followup, i see some people saying they have issue with games recognizing wooting kb as a controller, which fights with using the mouse. is it even possible to use this functionality while using a mouse? gta driving, walking speeds etc? I saw one demo showing this in a witcher game, but now im not sure if both (gradual press + mouse) are possible at the same time.
Depends on the game
Some games do not like mixed input, but a lot of them have no issues with it. Here's the most complete list https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/List_of_games_that_support_simultaneous_input, but there's way more games than that which do support mixed input.
oh niice! thank you both! this is my biggest reason for considering wooting beside less typing fatigue. would be a shame if i misunderstood what i was buying. π thanks!
and go for what? linear layout? im not sure i get what you mean π
boogeyman keyboard
thanks for the suggestion, but my issue isnt necessarily carpal tunnel and the like, its more just the press resistance. on certain days just the keypresses tire me out after a long day of programming and then being a bit nervous when gaming and clicking too much, you know... π So messing around with switches is one solution, but i came across wooting and it sounds perfect. load low threshold layout and BOOM, barely moving fingers. π
https://www.minisforum.com/page/v3/index.html?lang=en
Still doesnt confirm if the touch can be used when using as an external monitor
hypeish
The world's first AMD high-performance 3-in-1 Windows tablet,minisforum
mpp confirmed is good tho id still prefer wacom
That sounds like a beautiful tablet. Probably very expensive
compared to similar tablets i suspect it should fall right in line
I like using that formfactor but for my limited laptop needs my chuwi one will do just nicely.
tbh I dont need a tablet, even tho i like them at work, my phone does everything i need
want a bigger screen tho, considering the vision pro
I use such a device as a portable laptop, and as a tablet for media consumption. At my vacation apartment, I can just plug in a keyboard and external monitor.
I will add that the one I use is 12inch so there is that.
this may be a bit too large for my needs
i have my phone for that tho :/
Also use it as a reference tablet during dnd sessions.
and ive already got an ice lake tablet
Phones are a bit too small for watching some tv show in bed imo, it can be done just less nicely.
tbh i want it for work, but my work isnt able to purchase from those types of oems
your ice lake one would outperform what I use, but really just have fairly limited needs in that regard.
I have this btw: https://eu.chuwi.com/products/ubook-x-i5-10210y?variant=46924510134616
The UBook X is a 2 In1 tablet with 12 inches IPS screen, 3:2 Ratio, full-laminated Process, 2160*1440 resolution, Equipping with UHD Graphics 600 graphics card, intel i5-10210Y, Hipen H7 stylus, hard decoding of 4K video, and also supports output of 4K 60Hz video signal through the Micro-HD interface,
yea and i dont even use the ice lake
my monitor swings around over my bed and i hook up my phone via usb
My phone does not do that sadly, and I don't have a monitor there.
But realistically I don't even watch tv shows that often.
my phone cant do 4k120 much less 4k240 but 4k60 is fine enough for pretty much everything
otherwise I would probably just get a tv for that.
i have a crippling youtube addiction
I need 4k 480hz oled
Same, but I am also terrible at falling asleep so stuff like that stays well clear of my phone
as long as thats or, lg has you covered soonβ’οΈ
60hz sucks a little for webbrowsing
(yea i dont like jittery scroll lol)
well they are going to release a screen that can do 4k and 480hz but not both at the same time though.
it sucks alot, but i do very little of that on my phone
yea thats why i said "as long as thats or"
Lg?
They change their subpixel layout as well
oh they will?
no gaming monitor is glossy
Alienware qd oled is
no gaming monitor is glossy lel
I mean it was labeled as gaming monitor i think? Lol
yea they can pretend all they want but that aint it chief
If you mean 480-540 hz or 360hz bfi ips/tn or whatever then yea nope
It's also not just that they use wrgb but also the subpixel layout
its a fancy pretty monitor, but it aint for gaming
they use the proper stripe layout unlike the pentile inspired qdoleds
they just have an extra subpixel
They now have rwbg and moving to rgwb which still a bit less bad
its really not
I would have to so reviews if it helps in practice though.
30% (or more) peak brightness and saturation reduction really hurts
nah we could have it now but it would just cost a fortune
current microleds are like 120inch tvs that eat kws of power and cost as much as a house so well
but there is no promise whatsoever for them to get smaller or cheaper anytime soon
meanwhile oled started to iterate every year
minileds too
i really want some absolute madlad of a company to make a 300mm diagonal uoled at like 20k nits, and make an array of them
Also newer oled techniques are also improving still I really wouldn't just bet on one magical technique though.
oh those ones
usually 1 inch diagonal
Well that would be interesting trying to sync 100 panels
each with its own uniformity
(i assums even uoleds dont come out defect free)
Ph oled is the magic that we are betting on rn
dont know if this is tech
It is tech
π₯
Going back to subpixel rendering, as I cannot set it per monitor I just turned it off on account of using 1 vertical monitor.
yay -_-
It still mostly looks fine with modern fonts on 1440p 27inch imo
maybe if you use it with scaling
but i use 4k32 at 100% and i still have aliasing issues
get 4k 27
Not saying it's perfect but fine for my uses
I would still have to deal with my vertical monitor either way.
fair
my "vertical" monitor is just using my monitor as a left and right half
on the other hand, if the oled was rgb stripe, you wouldnt have to worry about it
i kinda want an rgbcwa or rgbww display, but i also want it to be bright
do OEM Profile ABS keycaps (1.2 mm) are compatible with lekker 60s?
Got an example? That sounds like some kind of super flat and low profile keycap

Yep. Should work just fine.
thx
what happened to na lion role?
Oh there were two NA-Lion roles
thought somthing happened to that shipment :(
I can't edit it right now because I have a draft post ready to go
But tomorrow I'll fix it
bruteforcing it with 4k should do the trick
(on new monitors this year)
I'd rather not go above 100% scaling, on linux right now there be dragons, especially using fractional scaling.
IDK
my 1440p screen has same text quality as 4k
obviously microtext looks better
but i have 28inch 4k so its hard to read it
on windows if you have screens with different scaling, moving programs around causes jank
on macos it causes the gpu to run at an insanely high render resolution then downscales to your monitors
and linux...
linux has some fun stuff
i just saw the article about the 22 degree monitor rotation
that allows you the maximum length of horizontal line with that monitor lel
maximum code line and it also gives hollywood new sci fi prop ideas xD
if you're so lazy you won't tilt your monitor correctly, you can also do this I guess
Welp
lel have fun
see you need to tilt the screen so gravity lets the content drop down
i cant say much considering the BS i pull with my monitors
1,3,4,5 are all 24 inchers, 2 is a 27, and 6 is a 10 incher
100% scaling on all of them
Also I found cool bug with KDE
Everytime I switch X11<->Wayland it resets my mouse settings and sets acceleration from Flat to Adaptive
its pretty annoying to move my cursor across them because it moves at vastly different speeds
yea i ran into that
I just stick to Wayland but report that shit. if it isn't already reported
glad X11 is barely usable because i need 175% scaling to see anything
200% is too big
like way too big
I do believe reports do help.
A bug report of mine is the reason a feature I actually like got added to plasma.
Namely the panels and desktops management screen. You can use it to move panels between screens be it disconnected or active disabled or enabled.
I had problems with my monitors sometimes being recognized as something else resulting in some residual ghost panels and me having to set up their layout again.
Someone else made a pr with this feature where they wondered if there was any use to this. My bug report gave that use.
Huhhhh lol
What does this setup look like lol
Covered in pii ubfortunately
Think an l shaped desk, completely covered in monitors
How big is that desk lmao
I have trouble with fitting everything with 2 monitors and a pc lol
L desk
Think 2 desks
I know it's an L desk man
idk where to look for a bigger one
I may have played with X11 too hard, I had to chroot
does wooting two he also have rapid trigger? theres a box explaining rapid trigger, but not saying it has it, but it says on wooting 60he that it does have it, so thats confusing
why would it explain something that doesnt exist on it
idk, it looks identical to 60he page so maybe they forgot to remove that? theres nothing anywhere apart from that one box
All Wooting keebs, going back to Wooting One have rapid trigger
ok cool, thanks
Amd Ces Info Site is up and now it seems more like I should hope for zen5 being mentioned as a one more thing at best rip
Stupid AI focus
Anybody uses monitor arm?
Sure?
Arctic X1-3D is what I got for my single 34" ultrawide monitor.
Of?
The monitor
8.1kg - but that's with the foot installed. No measurements for just the panel.
It works well in docker, but works better in a vm
Big update
.. Or native install
Do yourself a favor and install it in a vm instead
Keeping ha up to date is super easy then
Why?
Docker is fine
and i dont want to run a VM on my pi
Adons work real nice in the vm/install
Orrr you can update every dep manually with docker π
Or click a button on home assistant ui

rip my 3070TI asus tuf card is getting artefacts in games :/
Temps never went over 70C but luckily i got warranty
did you update drivers?
Yeah
rip
Yeah of course
@prisma crag Nah, is that some kind of benchmark?
Ahhh
How could i check that though?
I might get 4070ti as replacement but i would like to test the card so i don't return it for no reason
without breaking it
You're not just a clown, you're the entire circus
Funnily enough my 7800XT order didn't get canceled yet, I wonder if they are actually going to honour the pricing mistake
They did fix the pricing the day after though
415 euros for a 7800XT is very stonks
Well it's a ~600ish euro card here in EU
Getting -150 euros off is great
I saw a 7900XT for 600 euros flat too, that would have been insane but I think I'll settle for 7800XT
Took off the card off the website too
Though legally speaking - at least here - if the discount isn't "an obvious typo" you can take them to small claims court to force them to honour the purchase.
Well they cited "no more inventory left" and it's no longer on the website
So, can't really prove em petty
I'll just keep some tabs on market price movements, SUPER launch, maybe there's some good cards on sale
I hate the word sale nowadays, it either means something is being sold, or it's on discount
American/British English at its finest
as a brit everyone i knows says "on offer"
meaning discounted
sometimes on sale is used though its less common
Although.. that online store took down most of the 7800XT, 7900XT discounts
They still have RTX 4070 on a 200 euro discount
Not worth bothering, they'll just cancel the order again
choice paralysis when choosing led strips ~_~
take the 4th from the top
2nd then
AMD 5700X3D listed in Europe, first 5000GT parts appear as well AMDβs new Ryzen desktop CPUs for AM4 socket, already in Europe. The first entries for soon to be launched AMD Ryzen 5000 desktop SKUs have been uncovered on a European price comparison site, as discovered by hardware leaker @momomo_us. It appears that certain retailers [β¦]
I wonder if 5700X3D will be the same situation as 5700X completely obsoleting 5800X
When Ryzen 3 launched the only 8 core was the 5800X, but then they did the whole mid-gen refresh cause even 5600X was too expensive, some 249 euros at that point
Or if it is some weird small stock failed version of the 5800?
Like that one in the US ... walmart was it?
And effectively 5600 non-X obsoleted 5600X, 5700X obsoleted 5800X
5600X3D microcenter only
Still in stock though
Yeah itβs small epyc rejects and such so itβs just another option and you get whatever is in price range most of the time that just means get 5800x3d still
Wondering if 5700X3D is just going to end up a cheaper 5800X3D
With tiny differences in clocks which you can just make up with an OC
No
Same as all x3d parts you can barely change performance
Insofar it looks like exactly the same story as 5700X/5800X3D
5700X3D boost 4.1GHz apparently, 5800X3D 4.5GHz
Exactly the same difference between 700X/800X
I'm all for a cheaper X3D launch for AM4, pretty cool
Boost matters as you canβt really increase this
And the 800x3d is dropping in price so no point going for something else still
Yet the performance difference between 700X/800X is tiny so does the boost even matter?
5800x3d dropped so much in price that if you are going am4 then just get this
400MHz sound like a lot but the difference in performance in practical terms isn't really there
Unless X3D really really needs those MHz
any cpu needs those mhz
The lower you start the more of a difference 400mhz are
people who managed to overclock 5800x3d got decent results from just adding like 100mhz
Except for 5700X cause that performs on par with 5800X even with 400MHz lower clock
Cause I think they increased infinity cache bandwidth on 5700X to compensate or something
Looking at the specs
??? Spec says they are 100mhz apart
Oh shit sorry, base clock is the difference
I read that wrong
There's also this which.. is maybe infinity fabric?
Huh then 5700X3D might be quite a bit slower, that boost hit is large
Unfortunate
@ashen spindlebtw quin, what would get more performance out of a PC, upgrading to a 7900XT without a CPU upgrade, which is currently a 5600X, or a 7800XT but with a 5800X3D
Cause CPU upgrades can bring some insane performance gains
Last I checked which was recently, same card can bring some 50% perf boost with X3D
I play at 1440p
well I'm waiting for zen5
I'm not buying into AM5 just yet
I have a pretty dank AM4 board and not in the interest of spending more on new sticks of RAM, new board, etc
I didn't want to, but my hand was forced.
well then it depends on the game, if you say the game you look at gets that much from x3d it seems obvious
AMD event at CES 2024 on January 8 Last week, we shared an update on the official CES 2024 event schedule, and prominently absent from the list was AMD. However, it has now been revealed that AMD will indeed be hosting an event titled βtogether we advance_AI.β The event will be led by CEO Dr. [β¦]
heavily depends on game but yea
it can happen
ff14 is incorrectly benchmarked by a lot of people
5800x3d should be on par with 14900k in that game
for example
How do you do a benchmark wrong exactly? Pick the wrong preset? Heh
the game doesnt process players the same way it processes npc
the offline benchmark is used which is a wrong representation of online performance
Ahhh. Well counterpoint - It's the only static benchmark you CAN do.
There is no way to do a true 1:1 comparison online.
you could if you had multiple systems and joined the same instance
an inaccurate comparison of just doing limsa or a replay of a raid would be more accurate
Closest you might be able to get is ask an entire guild to stand idle in a bossfight and record it over and over.
you can use the duty recorder to replay things
raids could be fairly accurate
That would have the same issue as online though? You're asking the PC to do pre-recorded movement?
minecraft benefits quite from x3d apparently but i couldnt find much benchmarks
it's not the best but it would be better than the ingame one at least
besides people who work with a lot redstone saying that
like you have >30% gain in a 24man and the offline benchmark is nowhere near that, in limsa even more so
I get why GN wont do it, absolutely not scientific because it's not the same thing each time
but for consumer it's so much more relevant
GN would need something similar to LTT Labs scripted benchmarks. But using actual client PCs and a scenario that can be easily replicated.
I would argue just doing a limsa plaza runaround 3 times instead of doing the offline benchmark would show more relevant data
as long as it's done at a time where you have enough people to show the max amount of characters, aka any time during the day
Software is os
Que?
I didn't say they couldn't DO it. I said they needed to make one π
Limsa using two identical PCs aside from the CPU would probably be the closest you could get. Both would have to join the same exact instance and stand on top of each other with an identical camera angle.
And then redo it across different times of day for a better average.
start by tping from lower deck to plaza, then run 2x in a circle and do that twice
man my g203 and g100s scroll wheels both are damn loud now
that would be good enough imo
added with a fat disclaimer that it's online game etc.
but I think that would be better than using the offline benchmark
does anyone know someone i can get in contact in for putting the wrong address in i sent an email but I'm worried that it wont be received in time iv already confirmed the order by accident i didn't realise there was multiple adress with the same postcode as myn in my general area
You can change the address on an order that hasn't shipped out yet via our hub.
Access and edit your orders, connect your discord, and manage your Wooting account.
it says i cant change my order if it is a preorder
or you may only edit your address if it i a preorder
iv confirmed it by accident without realising what i put
What's your order number?
You should - should be able to edit the address now.
Please send us an email at social@wooting.io if you managed to fix it. Or if you didn't so we can help correct it.
The order is on a hold so it won't ship by accident in the meantime.
omg your a life saver tysm mansen
i was having a heart attack
Is it true that the apex pro develops more issues over time than other keyboards?
A friend of mine meant it is like that, which is the reason i ordered a wooter
is there any way to map a key to 'βΌ' on the 60HE ?

I bet it's just a widget on your home screen that connects to ChatGPT or someshit like that
Companies are promoting patter recognition software as ai

well technically all humans learn on "stolen works"
It'd be fair if AI would actually get served ads as it crawls websites though

Between Asus, Lenovo, and now MSI, it feels like every major PC gaming brand is lining up to compete with Valveβs Steam Deck. MSIβs Instagram teaser for next weekβs CES announcement doesnβt give too many hints about the specs or features of its competitor. But it does seem to confirm itβll have plenty of fan grills and RGB.
We just need Apple's handheld.. lol
Unironically Samsung would prolly try to do it
Will release just as quickly as their vr headset
Next day hand delivery lol
Ie dude gets on a plane with it in a carry on and takes it to you
Also competitor is a stretch. The ally barely completes
eh whoever can get into big box stores will compete even if its not technically competitive
Yeah
MSI and Asus are massive laptop/desktop company's so they can push a ton of product
SSD go brrrr
Please no
You know what? I wouldn't mind it
Snapdragon Elite handheld would go ham
Ehh.. no
I doubt that kind of machine would run anything more than Terraria
Hell it would struggle with modded Terraria
You know terraria is on mobile right?
Yep
And it runs on potatoes
That thing renders the game at like 25% resolution
I want to change my adress but it doesnt work can anybody help
I mean yes, it would run a smartphone version of the game on the smartphone OS
You cannot change your delivery country via the Hub
But if you get Exynos to run Windows and then play Terraria, that's a bit of a different talk
Need to email social@wooting.io for assistance
thanks
You get any arm running windows it will be ass
Which is exactly what we are talking about
There's virtually no reason to have a handheld running a smartphone OS, at that point..
Um
My Odin says other wise
Emulation is amazing on arm
For consoles
Why I don't get the base ally

Looks so fucking jank
too bad itll just use msi dragon center
You'll see the stock stand lol
could put a usb hub on the little shelf
probably a dumb question, but is the rapid trigger separate to the switches and keycaps? so I can use my own keycaps and switches and still have the effect of a rapid trigger
keycaps are fine but wym with your own switches
you cant put normal switches in a wooting

But.. why
32gb of RAM..? What
Why Intel
Because bad product needs numbers to look good
So you slap 32gb on it, show performance on max powerdraw and ignore it is useless at low power
hi, i don't know much about PC's and i needed some Help. Can anyone help me with The other Parts. i already know which gpu i'll get (RTX 3060 TI)
Budget: 1700β¬
Location: Belgium
To differentiate, will be interesting to see how performance differs compared to the AMD powered handhelds
Budget/location helps π
Ye, especially with arc
Why a 3060Ti
why not? it's a really good 1080p card
Unless they already have it or got for a low price, there potentially are better cards to get
i assume it's second hand
for a pc for 1700β¬ isn't 3060ti a little underwhelming?
1700? Huh
It is
just doesn't immediately strike me as a balanced build is all
my friend said its good
Isn't the rule that the GPU should be between 40-60% of build value
For your price range you can get better
it's not bad, just if you mean to spend all 1700β¬, you'll end up with quite the beefy CPU in comparison to your measly GPU
Ye
Just get a 4070Ti at that budget
Stop
You stop
Start
and what cpu
Ignore vex
I don't know anything about anything but I'd guess something like 4070/ti or 7800/7900xt for that budget PC sounds more like it?
He's our resident old crazy man
Reasons?
To many to list
I am not suggesting the lad AMD when they evidently know nothing about PCs
4070Ti or 4080 are their options
B650 and 7800X3D for CPU and mobo
It is, as well as being AMD
Id get a 7900xt
7800X3D for gaming, I'd guess (again, I know nothing about nothing so ask more qualified people)
That is the correct and only choice
7800X3D is like 350 or so
I don't know what vex has against amd but I guess you have some options to look at now
B650 is like what, 200 euros for a decent board?
Ok I was off a bit, 7800xt is a decent chunk less but still insanely cheaper.
Considering I nowadays run AMD only builds, I have nothing against them lol
What res @gritty timber
But they are cards you need to know the drawbacks of
Especially for a user that evidently, has no clue about the industry
175β¬ or so.
what is res
Driver issues, long term unfixed problems, lately there have been drivers that brick your entire systems

PG Lightning for a mere 176β¬ on Amazon
1080p
In general Nvidia is just probably more stable, more reliable, and has better feature offerings, plus you get CUDA
so I'd spend 500 from that budget into a monitor immediately instead
Good 1440p monitors are like 300
I feel like it doesn't make sense to build a PC for 1700β¬ for 1080p but that's just me
300$ 1440p monitor and 1400 for the build is pretty damn good
Dear god just make a pcpp list instead of these random parts thrown in everywhere
that can work too
Belgium so anywhere in eu
Amazon
I don't feel confident in doing that, I'm just mostly entertaining myself here
yeah
I'll see what I can cook up for 1700 euros
Considering you suggested AMD GPUs, please don't

Don't suggest AMD to a noobie
ok thanks
There's nothing wrong with suggesting AMD to anyone in this day and age you old fogie π
Inb4 drivers
Considering you literally have to keep tabs on their subreddit to get news on driver releases that brick your systems? Go Nvidia
And that happened like what, 2 times this year?
Lol
As an Nvidia user I can confirm your bias is funny.
Twice in 2023 that happened I'm pretty sure
Lads
I buy AMD GPUs myself lol
Just don't suggest it to a guy that knows virtually nothing
And you can find issues with Nvidia too
They will get into more trouble than they can fix
One time was literally Microsofts fault and could have happend to Nvidia just as well this is not relevant
I find it humorous that you're giving AMD shit for "bricking" a Windows install in a fraction of cases (you could iterally just run recovery mode) when nVidia are burning people's homes down.

Also Nvidia drivers are so bad these days
yeah I think you're just cherrypicking a negative datapoint and overweighting it by a lot when it comes to this convo
reality is for most people most stuff works just fine, if you're affected by something then unlucky but it could happen with anything I guess

AMD ain't perfect but they are far away from the old days.
They are
Which is why I buy AMD just cause they are cheaper lol
But I would still not give an AMD card just yet to a complete normie
With the current pricing
Perfectly fine for a newbie, they don't update their drivers anyway
Nvidia pricing is horrendous.

Yeah that's the main drawback nowadays
Nvidia pricing is fuckin shit
AMD outdoes them on price and performance jesus christ
bUT mY DrIvErs
My friend used one of those pc health driver programs despite me warning them not to
They bricked their Windows because of drivers
gpu manufacturers still thinking they're hot shit long after the pandemic. get rid of your stock already
I spent ages trying to fix it but it was just impossible.
Still waiting on them to re install Windows.
good ol windows and drivers
In this case it wasn't really down to Windows....
yeah that was user error
that is a good point, if linux is more mainstream we see more "pc health software" that will screw with it in the weirdest ways and that would be really funny to see
The program in question is notorious for installing dodgy drivers, however it was down to Windows not making it easy to remove said drivers and go back to default.
Very specific drivers that affect how drives work.
So Windows would just crash as if your SSD is failing.
it probably would just not work the same way, the way distributions are wildly different in their configuration. driver updater would be interesting tho. get everything from github and keep it up to date
The best free driver updater for Windows 11/10. Fully detect and update all your old drivers for graphics, USB, audio, display, network, printer, mouse, keyboard and scanner. Free check driver updates now.
This garbage
It's bloody malware
oh the people who make these shit software will find ways to break whatever linux distro would be most popular
Driver Booster is actually super helpful - On older laptops. You still need to clean out all of the shit afterwards, but it genuinely finds drivers that are just nigh impossible to find otherwise for obscure components like fall sensors, wifi modules and trackpads.
She was wanting to look after her new PC and make sure drivers were always up to date, I expressed she doesn't need to worry about drivers every two seconds and most of the time it's automatic these days anyway.
oh absolutely, they'd just break it. imbeciles will handle tools you give them in destructive ways
And that her main drivers can use the amd catalyst thing.
why update if they work
Or you know, if i have an issue that might be related to the current driver
@ashen spindle Caseking isn't enterprise only right?
They do ship to consumers right
It's not
normal shop
Primarily so
Unlike mindfactory
What
mindfactory is normal shop too
Mindfactory also is a normal shop lol
Mindfactory is not a normal shop cause I literally can't order from them
they just dont ship to outside germany
Skill issue
Well yes that was the question
Caseking does ship international right?
they also dont ship business outsite
Post covid thing i think?
Yes.
I think it was post-3000 series GPU crisis actually?
Also caseking has some subsidiaries
None of the good displays are available on amazon, computeruniverse or caseking lemao
what kinda display are you looking for
just put pcpp on belgium idk what you are trying to do manually
Alienware AW2723DF, Gigabyte M27Q X aren't available
it's a shame too since they used to and it was pretty much the best place to buy PC components back then
They are buying from amazon
just use pcpp anyway and if its one shop they can assemble it if its self assemble you can just pick wherever its cheaper and amazon is on there too
check if this ships to your cuntrey, I bought from this store when I lived in France and was quite happy
Well this is the best I could come up with, anyone can suggest how to shed some 500 euros to fit 1700 budget?
https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/WXkMyg
Part List - AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D, Radeon RX 7900 XT, Fractal Design North ATX Mid Tower
7800XT is the obvious one but won't be enough to shed 500
No PSU?
I did forget about that
Cooler I just got from https://gamersnexus.net/megacharts/cpu-coolers
What happened to the budget
my solution is to buy secondhand but I doubt it applies in this case
oh you wanted the M27Q-X https://www.topachat.com/pages/detail2_cat_est_peripheriques_puis_rubrique_est_w_moni_puis_ref_est_in20012243.html
Best case scenario that we need to shed
I literally told you that
240hz?....
sell your pokemon
This dude is not going to be doing 240hz
Cibernetics?
I remember the linux sex tips forum had a fantastic PSU tier list, lemme see if I can find it again
I know that one, https://cultists.network/140/psu-tier-list/
Well 850W RMe seems to be pretty good
Leave it at that
Well I switched out some parts for cheaper, still -200 to shed
still having a 600w PSU in use that I got in............ 2010
Pretty sure the one in my rig is like D tier on cultists lol, some cheap ass 30$ 550W
Funnily nough it's prolly built to better quality than newer ones
I am not so sure myself, I'm admittedly playing with fire. but they age exceptionally well when compared to most PC parts
Anyone got any ideas to make this 1700 flat? https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/H6DWKX
CPU is a bit on the expensive side from the current US 300$ but seems normal in EU
I think if you want a good PC for 1700buckaroos in 2023, it's better to buy used than new
1700 is like high end PC territory, no need to buy used
That display though is kinda ruining the budget lel
Cheapest good 1440p I can see though
there's nothing to downgrade on that list anymore if you still want to keep a balanced build, my suggestion is to try and find the GPU used and you save that 200 or so
The conclusion I am coming up to rn
Unless you want to get like a baseline RTX 4060 which is very ew
or entirely downgrade to a much cheaper build w/ 5800x3d or something
And downgrade to R5 7600
maybe different ram? isn't gskill trident z neo 6000cl30 cheaper?
not sure if it makes sense to go for old platform anymore
That isn't going to shed 220 euros
It indeed doesn't, though R5 7600 is pretty damn good
yeah maybe that then
well yeah but it's still gonna lower the price
7600 now and go to 7800x3d later if you wanna
Then I'll change the RAM to something cheaper and maybe SSD to SN770
i'd just save a little more and go with 7800x3d right out of the bat
I have the 5600x and meant to get the 5800x3d later but nobody is selling it at a reasonable price so I'm just not upgrading still
https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/mdbMyg we made the budget
Just a few euros short
I doubt that's a good idea though
Zen 5 launch is pretty imminent
Whatever performance grade 8700X3D will be, that's prolly worth more to wait for
200 euro CPU for now will fit considering 7600 is like 5800X3D in performance
Which is still top grade
Donβt think zen5x3d is coming till end of the year
And a 7600 will last way more than that
awww yiss new launches mean more people are dumping their 5800x3ds into the used market
I'm rubbing my hands together in anticipation
No issues with that build lads?
Idk did you ask about self assembly or all in one shop to get it build
Shipping prices added in?
Doesn't PCPP account for shipping?
Idk if they have prime
Something's wrong cause I tried adding it to the amazon basket and it missed something
Ah the SSD
Same
@gritty timber How's this build for you https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/mdbMyg
Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 7600, Radeon RX 7800 XT, Corsair 4000D Airflow ATX Mid Tower
looks really good
It is really good
Like, if the shipping really fucks you, and you have a display you are happy with
Ditch the display, and if the difference after shipping costs is meaningful, upgrade to 7800X3D
Either way with or without X3D that's a really good build
Though I'd suggest getting a 1440p display
That display though, while 240Hz is pretty damn good
It's a TN panel, and I am pretty damn against TN panels, though my information on them is like 7 years old
Current TNs might be alright, I dunno, they usually look shit
using a TN panel from last year, they have come a long way
out of the dark, into the light

R.I.P. F A L C O
on amazon it says that this Product is not Available
Yeah it did say that
Get either an SN850X 2TB or Samsung 970 Evo Plus
Although nowadays Samsung is on thin ice on their quality
okay
Apparently though the issue is old, people still have problems
970 Evo Plus though seems unaffected, it's a really good SSD
I think I have one meself
i will get 970 Evo plus
970 Evo plus is very solid
The wattage will not really make it handheld π
Solid
Which is why it's doa and should stay that way
im going to buy the PC first and after 1 month i will get the monitor
Nice, good
Actually if you get the display separately, it'd be wise to get a better one
That one is alright but there's some better options if you look around
I missed this one
They actually teased new cards
Nah I think it's just the 4000 supers
Well yes that's what we were talking about for a few months now
Good to see official.. confirmation?
Would have been surprising CES comes and goes with no SUPER cards lel
Especially since board partners have been wilding and leaking their cards
inb4 they are rebranding with some stupid ass AI name and focus.
Because nVidia is now an "AI company"

GPT 5000 series
Unironically I dig it
With our latest AI GPT cores, you can generate hundreds of thousands of iterations of questionable hentai based on prompts that would make even a dominatrix blush
π³
Actually nVidia
Sounds like a personal attack
From the makers of the hardware that allowed Tesla to break world records in hit and runs on people of colour we bring you...
It'd be honestly really really funny if Nvidia completely diverged their software and hardware teams into AI
Abandoning the consumer card sector
So your DLSS, ray tracing, etc starts to get no updates
Imagine AMD rubbing their hands like crazy.
Suddenly AI dries up and AMD has caught on
Suddenly a suspicious amount of barrels of lube are delivered to AMD HQ
It's friday, I haven't slept enough - and the memes write themselves given the obvious "bad stuff that AI has brought" π
The sheer amounts of AI generated adult content (legal or otherwise) everywhere is just mindblowingly insane. And "professional" applications of AI haven't fared much better.
To think if nVidia went full AI, the world would probably implode and a new post-fallout society would erupt.
nVidia be like - Who needs game studios? Our GPUs will literally live compile games based on your prompts.
Goes back into CS cave
thankfully silicon design takes years so when the ai bubble bursts we still have gpus coming that were started before
What's taking 50 series so long though
Does it only feel that way, or is Blackwell taking its dear time
it's like a quarter longer than it took 40 series
Gotta milk the 40 series
not related to that at all
It'd be a bit of a bummer if Blackwell isn't a big jump in performance
Though Nvidia always manages to release good shit
am already sick to death of all the AI hypejerking everywhere you look now
"look at our new laptop with AI!" you mean you put a shortcut to your crappy chatgpt copy on the desktop
my decade old pos desktop has AI, checkmate advertisers
I gotta be honest though, I don't see why 99% of companies need an H100
Most companies just need at best an AI trained programmer to customize a model with embeddings
No question, only consoom
Why on earth would you want a custom model
To train it, etc
You can do that with embeddings and just calling an OpenAI API lol
Cheaper I guess? API calls can mount up in price
Doubt it's more effective
And definitely not something that 99.9% of companies need
because if you put private information into public space your legal team should fire you two months prior
H100 is like, OpenAI, Microsoft, Google, DeepMind stuff
You guys are all missing the bigger picture!
Investors!
Just make an announcement about AI, and they flock in droves!
Unironically how it works
Like little headless chickens, but instead of feathers they got cash
Hardware is cheap
Nvidia stock is ridiculously overpriced
I think I read that their stock initially skyrocketed cause of automotive
What do you think a programmer costs
Nvidia's automotive self-driving is like, nowhere to be seen right?
Stock price keeps going up lol
NV is just hype stock
Intel though even though they earn more than AMD and Nvidia combined, is less than AMD's by like 50%
Why tf is Intel so, comparatively, underpriced
I feel like the big problem with the economy is that rich investors have way too much money. It means that people who have no understanding on the market are leading the market. That the economy rather then serving the majority starts warping around a handful of investors who don't understand what consumers need.
Stocks is just rich man's crypto
Intel got no AI cards
You canβt compare stock prices by price for one stockβ¦
They arenβt split into the amount of stocks
This is remediated by the fact that smart investors make more money which they reinvest but yeah some people just get lucky
Stocks at least have a reason to be valuable, but we're reaching a breaking point. The entire point of capitalism is that markets find customers and attend to their needs.
Investor capitalism is the market finding catch phrases to toss out at rich idiots like a parent jangling keys in front of toddler.
But instead the entire economy lives and dies on those rich idiots because they have more money then the customers the market should be serving
It really isn't
Well their market cap is lower than both AMD's and Nvidias
Their volume is lower
Their price is way lower
Like I am not saying investors should not exist, I am saying the system is legitimately broken when companies are able to balloon their stocks to thousands of times their normal value by the mere mention of AI
I genuinely don't see why is Intel so undervalued
Tbf I fail to see why would you want to go public as a company
I would always keep my company private, like Valve
That's more of a human problem than a system problem
People are dumb and drawn to hype and buzzwords
No way to fix that besides getting someone who is allegedly smarter and immune to bad decisions from being in charge
Which has worse problems
Technically, you can just keep the company private but sell 49% of it and you'd still own the company or some shit
Idk that whole business management and economy thing isn't for me
A systematic problem increases bad human behaviour
This leads to dumb decisions by idiots who were lucky to be born rich destroying the market for most of the population
What's the systematic problem causing the issue in your view
Problem you run into is that investors can still sue if they feel you aren't making them enough money. So even if you call the shots, if the other owners think you aren't operating in their self interests you're fucked.
Also I imagine the people who found companies don't want to stick around, and just sell it off and leave
Imo the quality of the system causing the problem you're referring to is the fact that anyone with money can participate in the market
Investors have too much money
Consumers do not have enough
This means the market aims at pleasing invesors rather then consumers
The only way to fix that is to either remove economic rights or take away dumb people's money
Selling off a company is unironically a very viable way to get rich
Both of which are bad
Taxes
In theory selling off a company to make multimillions is really easy
- Found a technology company
- Launch some website for a service
- Advertise tf out of it
- When it gets popular, sell it for many millions
It works judging from success stories
Like the whole point of taxes is to move money around.
What needs to be happening is taxes on the rich to move more money into the lower classes so that the market is more in control of the consumer, rather then the investors
The practicality and systematic effects of taxing high income is a big conversation but keeping to the topic of the problem you mentioned - you're taxing smart and innovative investors as well
Also we need more competition, but this is a lot harder to implement with tech like graphics cards. Due to the high costs in development, tight margins, and customers wanting the best
Yes and
The point of taxes isn't to redistribute wealth it's to fund public services...
Which includes social programs but that's one part
Public services are also a way of redistributing wealth
E.g. low income housing
Allowing people who earn almost nothing a place to stay, and hopefully find room to improve their positions
Another thing to point out is this
CEOs receive very little in the way of taxes, in part because they are given assets that technically hold no value (shares), the taxation system allows them to manipulate their taxes to like 10%. With this in place they are quite motivated to always be seeking more money because they don't have a real cap to how much they earn. Screwing over his workers to give himself a pay bump.
On the other hand if a CEO is going to be taxed +90% on his earnings then he might feel more motivated to increase his status among the work force instead, and will pass the extra earnings to his workforce and to charities.
You can try to argue against this, but the US used to have taxes that were this high and the rich were seemingly more generous as a result.
Then kick those companies out or something
