Cod wasn't made for amd gpus
always love watching these discussions
It isn't but okay
takes me back to console wars days
cod was made for amd gpus that's why nvidia had so many nvidia gpu+cod bundles
i mean there is no doscussion here
4090 wins in average of 100 games
By quite a bit
I never said otherwise, I was just calling out your false statements
wins on average is vastly different from best any performance
I'm a little sad that the 4090 can't do Portal RTX at a locked 60.
1920x1080 it drops frames and stutters.
Oh yea
Jesus Christ how demanding is portal with Ray tracing????
It's full RT so quite a lot.
Game uses more than few samples.moment
And of course the latter chambers are worse about it because they are bigger and more detailed.
It's still wild that Nvidia said it was an 8k card.
didnt they claim the 3090 was an 8k card
Oh dang it was the 3090?
20fps
That's even more stupid than I remembered.
they prob claim it because it has enougj memory throughpout
8k gets rekt hard if you dont have good enough memory
i remember that being a talking point for dooternal specifically, not sure about all games
Dooternal?
doom eternal
WTF is that
never played any cod or cared much about it
but interresting
yeah argument doesnt make sense and to look at future purchasing decisions when the next gen is still like 2 years away makes little sense
you dont reach 60fps in 4k and rt high in control
idk what they tested but that is nowhere close to real
I tried RT in the entrance lobby and that looked okayish but even on 2k Uw low/middle RT put it below 90fp[s already
so higher resolution and more RT demand is never hitting 60 there lol
Im waiting for 4k qd oled monitors to try hdr
Doesnt tw3 have some kind of rt dont remember
Total war warhammer
i mean its good for what its doing
Isn't WH3 still DX11?
Both
But apparently it was an afterthought and doesn't work well - Doesn't improve things.
im not interested that much in grand strategy kind of rts
The total war games can use DX12 but no improvements
So basic DX12 implementation on top of DX11 it seems... yeah, DXR on this monstrosity would be hard to do
I have warhammer 2 as my second most played game of Steam forever
Tw games are weird
As someone who enjoys the rts aspect of mostly battles and no economy/resources like aoe or civ
Gets boring overtime
My friend plays lots of Total War games, I couldn't get around it somehow
probably
@prisma crag do you have specifc eugen game in mind
Or all of them
never heard of them
the graphics with ReShade are pretty good, but the battles with thousands bottlenecks even the fastests CPU
Apart from models jumping suddenly to new LOD - holy crap, it looks amazing
Spring project is interesting but idk if any really good game was made on it
Bar is excellent
Ehhh
owo?
Sc2 still stays as king
Nobody has beat this engine
???
how is wc3 related
Well idc if you just hate the engine because blizzard just say it
i mean it is what it is
their company falling apart doesnt change the facts
Oh right eugen made wargame
I dont know if their games can be directly compared to tw
its really not tw style rts
cant really say much from technical standpoint about their engine, i was never interested in it
Bar is really cool game but its still very indie
Its not like it just beat supreme commander
Which one isn't magnesium bonded
Tbh, the music included is already quite good
Too bad the games are incredibly boring
Tried like 3 of their games already of different eras, none were interesting, and I like strategy
i love how my apple TV's volume control just bugs out sometimes
and i get a "dynamic" island bc of that
until i restart the device
Don't buy apple...
Unless it's an iPad
Best buy is apple stock :3
Tbf prolly the only thing I would buy from Apple
Nope
Xiaomi Tab > Samsung
indeed lol
Wrong is wrong but it's Pleasant so wrong is usual
MIUI/Hyper OS is leagues ahead of Samsung Tab os it's bizarre.
How
It just does almost everything better
It does not
If anything I'd rather use Galaxy's OS
MiUI just works, nothing good about it
Tbf phone version is different to tab
It does everything I disliked Samsung for not doing tbf
But I don't mean Samsung is inherently bad
I guess
why have they made a taycan
looks like a GTA vehicle design
take some distinguishing brand cues from the main one you're copying and throw in some competitor lines here and there for that uncanny valley result
I'm so glad I'm not the only one thinking that.
chabuduo
Ordered myself a pair of Audeze Maxwell now will be interesting to try out the Planar drivers
I heard it's a bit underwhelming
What about Focal Bathys?
Well was thinking of buying them too but 30hrs vs 80hrs battery life so the Audezes won there
Also these headphones will mainly be used at the PC
I've got Edifier X3, 1More ComfoBuds Pro, 1More Sonoflow & Moondrop Chu II as the ''portable'' alternatives as of now
seems like they are going for much longer range
and the taycan has a transmission for some reason, so skipping that should make the car alot cheaper even with a bigger battery, as well as more reliable
and an lfp option to be super cheap
actual details about the car https://www.notebookcheck.net/Xiaomi-SU7-electric-car-specs-previewed-with-500-mile-range-version-at-a-top-price-and-2024-release-date.787729.0.html
Reddit genuinely just ruined their own website.
New UI on my phone - the reply option is now hidden in a drop-down menu.
How did this get greenlight. Genuinely curious.
QC is optional
there are starting to be new apps that dont rely on the official api, i dont use reddit so idk if they are more useable but you might want to check them out
We're reaching that point. I don't want to use Reddit as is, but this is just dumb 😄
ikr
I’m new here I’ve just started purchasing gaming equipment can anybody link me or have any recommendations I’m trying to build a pc budget is 1400
its a shame that forums have mostly died off and been replaced by subreddits but thats the world we liv in
Most forums were a huge security hazard though
find a build on pcpartpicker that you like and make edits that you want, then post for critique
Ok bet
for anyone who cares there was always ways to be safe
Don't reuse passwords and forums are safe lol
and dont fill out all the info they ask for lel
What you're saying not to put my DOB, address and pet name into my forum profile?
😉
All you gotta do now is put you phone number in to for sale post and have you email there too
And wonder why you can't log into your bank account
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/RMgG28 This is what I have made as of now open to all critiquing not trying to go above $1400
Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 7600X, Radeon RX 7700 XT, BitFenix Tracery ATX Mid Tower
Looks aite
Check if you can find 7800X3D on discount, would be nice and most likely in $1400
Oh yea you should wait for CES for the "Super" launch
depending on which type of game you either want to upgrade the cpu or the gpu to hit the price
although some prices are missing, are those parts you already have?
I'm hoping for a x670 refresh next year
I really don't want to buy MSI, but it's the only baord that has all the shit I want
lucky you, there arent any boards that have all that I want 😦
I mean like what's offered
Bring me back to am2/am3 amd
32 lanes
🤷 my z390 had 36 lanes excluding m.2
I don’t have them but they are in my cart on Amazon the two prices that were missing are at 178 extra dollars to my total
my board does dual x16 or quad x8 and has a supplemental x4, as well as 3 addition x4 for nvme, 2 m.2 1 oculink
It's got a switch then?
Then my 890 has 48 with the switch
Yea but you don't have to go back 10 years for it lel
And you also don't have to go back to the northbridge era
And ive got Gen 3
Livemixer looks sick though
also 7700XT instead of 7800XT for only like 50 more
does kingston use sk hynix A die?
ehh doesnt matter, any 6000 kit is going to be good enough, whatever is cheap/works for the desire look
6000Cl32 is like the safest
common on QVL lists
6000CL30 is where things get sketch
Tachi Lite for 255
insane deal
Yeah I just wish we had that kind of connectivity
Gen 5 to 4 swtich in the board would be great
I use a 7950x3d and have nothing but issues with ram
I dont want to go AMD again from this trauma
always check the QVL if you don't want any headaches
what should I upgrade next I have a budget of 330$ but idk if I should upgrade cpu or gpu
5800X3D, then save for gpu
I got some people saying to get the gpu first so why the cpu and not gpu
I just wanna know
being CPU bottlenecked is worst than being GPU bottlenecked, at least IMO
ah ok
and since you are at 1080p, you'll be more cpu bottleneck, especially in esport games
ok
More importantly, it depends on the games you play
But when Windows 11 does it with the right click context menu, it's not a problem
The double standards sure are strong
I play mostly like fn and valorant and sometimes fifa so not really heavy graphic games
i love my pc every game runs fine cod mw23 nah
yea so cpu is more important
you could even get a 5600x3d if you can find one
how do you show all your specs like that?
speccy
its on microsoft store
"fine"
cs at 80fps is cursed
Also cods fps is super inconsistent
Ill hover around 300fps, and all of a sudden after restarting my game im getting 100+ frames less
oh im on a stable 9 fps all the time
what specs are u on
i have a kinda big bottleneck by my CPU
My buddy has a 2700x and gets stable 80+ fps is on mw3
You shouldnt be getting THAT low or fps I don't think
oh yes
i have low fps
My fps is at a stable 6 on the main menu so idk what i fucked up or what happened
Kyle and Francie from the @OutofSpecPodcast sit down to discuss our findings with the Max Pack R1T that Jordan and Kyle recently tested. Rivian told us there may be an issue with the truck, which sent us on a deep dive to make sure we could use our test results.
Shoutout to our sponsors for more information find their links below:
- Star Charge...
tldr rivian never ran epa on the most efficient r1t 135kwh battery and just used the results from the r1s
That made the 150kwh r1t look like a bigger upgrade than it really was
they advertise large vs max being 352 vs 410 EPA
Out of spec got 22.3 miles of difference between the two when he ran them
tldw*
eh they have captions but yea thats also the tldw
r00d
my pihole is not having fun being pwoered
Anyone with one think im fine to use my 15w samsung plug for my pi4?
yea thats the correct wattage
do you have any special hats on the pi or usb devices?
i just connected my 3d printer to it
thats strange
i also cannot access the printer but i suspect its due to permissions in docker
does the error go away if you unplug the printer?
im bad at reading timestamps but it seems like its relatively frequent
ch341?
thats a spi reprogrammer...
is that the chip used for talking with your printer?
no idea
literally no idea, i just plugged it in.
followed a guide and octoprint no connect
without printer?
yes
and you have no other devices attached?
-_-
lol nice
maybe with this printer stuff not so much?
ill look into it tomoz, its to late atm.
i know if i do i wont sleep.
is the 27g1s a good monitor?
link?
Maybe telepathy will happen next year🤷♂️
wish there were more public data other than rting and HWU videos for monitors
Maybe once the big YouTubers finish fiddling around their testing gear
KEK-TT
or undeniable best in price class
speaking of monitors, I wish the 4K 240hz that can also do 1080p 480hz was 27"
1080p on 27" is on the edge of unsuable
Just add black tape to it and use Nvidia control panel
but fine for esport gaymers
doesn't solve the issue of shit PPI
1080p on 32" is doodoo
only works as a tv from far away
μLED will solve but that is a long time away
LG UltraGear OLED monitor features two resolution modes that can be switched with a button LG unveils their new OLED monitor lineup early. was posted before, but this is the monitor I want
would be perfect if it was 27"
In times like this
If only rollable displays were common
Though I do fail to see how the dual hz feature is innovative
4k for AAA games, 1080p for esport
but 1080 is 480hz
which is nice
just more options with your monitor, that's all
I just mean on my old monitor if I was below 1080p it had a 75hz option now if I was above it said it could only do 60
Yo check messages
Thanks Linus. You summed up why I don't need to watch a 30 minute video in a thumbnail for once.

The keyboard reveal is part of today's stream.
what tkl
I have a ryzen 5 5600g and im so confused wether to choose a 3060 or a 6700 xt 😞
do you prefer red or green
the 6700xt is the cheaper option and it also goes well with my amd cpu but at the same time im scared about the power comsuption and its crashes and stuff
what if i prefer purple
no option for that :/
never had the 7900xtx crash on me
also apparently amd gpu's doesnt go well with performance mode on fortnite but im not too sure about that
My 6700XT never crashed on me neither
i saw a linus video recently where him and his team were talking about their amd only challenge and they said they crashed a ton and stuff and it kinda scared me
My 4090 crashed more than my 6800 did
maybe it was just a standoff event for them
My 6900xt has been literally flawless since I got it
so basically you're just making assumptions based on what someone said in one video, when millions of users are using amd shit just fine
yeah basically
yeah idk, doesn't seem all that important to me
linus tech tips is already untrustworthy to me, considering the videos gamers nexus put out when that whole fiasco happened
frankly i'd at least get a third opinion
can vouch for my 5600 + 6900xt setup as well, only time it crashed is when I did AI shit on the card and basically overpowered it lol
but that's on me
lmao nice
thanks for all the help guys honestly it made me not scared anymore about amd gpus
i already knew they were better performance for less price but i was scared about any glitches
upgrading to a 7 year old gpu wiht 4gb of vram to a 6700xt will feel so strange
only thing you should be worried about is fortnite "not working".. frankly i'd just move to a console if all i wanted to play was fn
It was an issue for those gpus but that’s in the past, both vendors are more or less the same for stability for normal use nowadays
the only real difference for me was h264 encoder, for streaming, but it doesn't really matter as 2024 has to be the year of av1 :)
but you are comparing to nvenc which you might as well call black magic at this point
mine exploded and burned down my house
Amd tends to release unstable drivers
to this day
Apparently nvidia also did recently
So well
Neither one is perfect
Cpus are steady straight line
Hahahaha if only
Just dont buy new platforms
the only issue i have with am5 is the 30+ seconds boot, feels like 10+ years ago
If only it was only new platforms xD
well my cpu hasn't exploded and i run 1:1 6200 cl30 on my 7800x3d
ihs on it sucks
Ram speed limit is only an issue for competitive overclockers
not efficient
At least it works unlike the cpus bending the 12th gen socket xD
Yea not everyone
For some did
Pretty sure this was an Asus mobo issue though no?
Dont rember if it was only 1 manuf
doesn't have to be efficient, you can almost cool the cpu by blowing at it yourself
🤷♂️
Asus and one other vendor set vcore way too high yes
I thought that was an Asus mobo specific thing that the 7800x3d was popping
Mostly Asus I think msi might have been the other one
Has it been resolved since?
Oh yeah
Good my buddy just picked up msi mobo with 7800x3d
It looks like a model 3 mixed with a taycan
I don't like it, but it looks better than a Tesla?
Also don't these guys make phones?????
they make lots
volkswagen makes sausages ¯_(ツ)_/¯
mainly for their own canteen

Because the contract says Tim will kill him afterwards
Creality is sending me a new plate out for free as I scratched the fuck out of mine when leveling. Awesome.
Any1 else get the ULX?
What's the software support?
on what?
also somewhat glad the 80HE layout isn't my ideal 75% layout, lessen the FOMO
What is the software support?
oh like years?
unknown, its not released yet, announcement jan 8th
previous ver has 4y os 5y security
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/tfHwDZ I updated with the recomendations I seen would anybody change anything on here if so let me know tryna get everything ordered later today
Part List - AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D, Radeon RX 7700 XT, BitFenix Tracery ATX Mid Tower
looks fine at first glance, make sure the ram kit is one the QVL list for the board so you dont deal with issues there
this is not great, because so easy to misclick the right column keys. also there must be a Del key, and some empty from it below (and to the left, between enter)
i don't get it, how keyboards without Del key exist, prioritizing End before Del? you have arrow key if you need to go 1 space to the right, it's rarely bigger than 1 space to the right.
Del is just so useful for many things, like deleting many stuff in many OS, programs and places, or when you type, and you accidentally click a bit too far to the left (with mouse or something), you can delete fast with del, aso.
if you can spare another $70, a sapphire 7800XT would be ideal, because after that it's a huge price jump to a 4070ti or 7900xt
7800xt/4070 is like the cutoff for reasonable GPU
are you sure you cant wait for january 18th for all the new gpus to release?
the older gpus should get cheaper at that point
that too
Ngl I struggle to comprehend how did mice like razer death adder v3 pro become so expensive it’s not like the components there are ton of or are super rare or advanced
Like Logitech g703 hero already seemed expensive and now it’s twice - thrice price
lots of R&D to make it lighter without crumbling under your hand
making stuff feel sturdy while still being lightweight is not easy or cheap
there are plenty of chinese wireless mouse for cheapo prices, but basically no aftermarket support
and the cheapo chinese arent that much less actually durable
they just feel less premium even tho they probably wont break either
it's usually the software and polling stability (at 4k) that suffers
nah
just the finish of the plastic
and razer software is actually a trojan so price doesnt guarantee software quality
at least you can uninstall now after
no you cant
at least on the expensive mice
idk some people get the razer pop up and some people don't
you can prevent it from popping back up on one pc
whenever they plug in a razer mouse
but as soon as you plug it into a new pc itll pop up
either way I hope Finalmouse pushes people to adopt web based settings
i really wish that logitech would release their trackpad as a separate product instead of making you buy a bundle
ive been loving the freedom of touchscreens and touchpads
Im not in the biggest rush I was just trying sort things out just in case things run out will waiting get me a much better build?
man trying to convert m3u for plex is a pain
Oh boy I need to configure more xd
Well most of these piece in my cart all say 3 or less left in stock and they weren’t in stock on the other sites I clicked on and by much better am I able to go higher then the 7700xt Gpu with all the price drops or is it more so leaned to just getting a better deal on the piece I have
you should be able to get 10-20% faster gpu, potentially more
Like Logitech g703 hero already seemed expensive and now it’s twice - thrice price.
And Logitech had all this but lighter which I don’t see that much money cost on
Though I guess r&d is fair still a crazy difference between the two
old g703 was wired, new one is wireless
I mean the new one
which is wireless only
I got it pretty cheap back then
Nope it’s both
Oh yeah I meant that you can use it wired my bad
still requires the chips for wireless
and $100 is only $20 higher than the previous
oh wait no it was also $100
Tbf looks like it went back up in price
It was down to 60€ at one point
But it’s 80€ now
Razer one is like 140€
160 acc €
oh no 10 euro more now that the euro has fallen what 10% relative to the dollar in the same amount of time

5th gen is alot of things
and the lancehead predates 5th gen cellular iirc
Yea this was to demonstrate that mice haven't changed prices

Hello Dear Viewers :D
Today, with a very short video about my newly found CRAZY performance of the RX 6700 and 6700XT in The Last of Us...
It's really interesting how developpers focus on only nvidia optimisation for pc but by focusing on the ps5 optimisation they accidentally help amd gpus
not the case and everytime I checked out that guys channel it was just full of wrong information so im not even bothering
Its a really clickbait title but he only talks about the last of us
According to that guy it also beats the 6800
according to literally anyone else it doesnt
wait the 6700 beats the 6800?
that makes no sense
His theory about that is because the ps5's gpu is really similar to the 6700 nonxt its more optimized
Appatently
Or however it could work
oh god this is even worse than I thought
dear god no that's not how gpus work
if you have a card that has more resources than what you "optimize" for you dont suddenly get worse performance
nono you dont understand, according to that guy the 6700 beats the 6800
yknow the 11 tflop gpu beating the 16tflop gpu of the same generation
like that obviously indicates a driver issue or faulty pc or something
like if this is your first ever benchmark maybe you think you find something and without knowing anything it makes sense
but how can you keep false shit like this up and not even look into it yourself dear god
ez pz
Step 1: yeet your code of ethics
Step 2: call anyone who says anything a shill
Step 3: plug your ears
that...um
as long as it is a decent form factor
I'm sick of the absurdly massive cards from AiBs nowadays
ok, grandpa
might be time for you to head back to the home
exciting
oh wtf that's a little over a week from now
idk why but I always envision tech events being a lot further away than they actually are
hopefully the 4080 super has enough of an uplift for the money to justify it
because I would like a new GPU
actually
regarding the super cards
any bump to the amount of VRAM or just core counts?
I really do not want to feel I have to spring for a 4090 to get more than 16gb
also felt skinned when I bought my 3070, had I known the 3060 was coming with 12gb, probably would have got that instead tbh
although, also kicking myself for not getting the 3080 when I could have
the GPU ain't the problem
it's the damn tiny 8gb of VRAM
RE4R absolutely slurps that away even at 1080p
best part
I probably will forget about it, because the soonest I'll really be able to sink time into games will be mid to late april

might be able to scoop the card I want at a reasonable price then idk
either that or...well
we'll see what next gen leaks are
I can wait
old news
pretty sure it was posted in meme rage a week ago or so
where it belongs
the proper way is always one monitor in standard orientation, and another off to the left in vertical orientation
why the fuck would you start your day with expletives

it's mostly a dumping ground nowadays
yo guys so I saw this weird ass article on Tom's Hardware
weird ass neckbeard devs xD
https://www.tomshardware.com/monitors/linux-is-the-only-os-to-support-diagonal-pc-monitor-mode-dev-champions-the-case-for-22-degree-rotation-computing
Finally almost done
Swapped cases and coolers
Going to install another lightstrip as it gets a little too dark when you put the glass on
fyee i fw the black theme
ye
went for a clean aesthetic without any rgb fans
I want to cover up the red accents on the gpu with some tape
looks far better irl than in the picture
temps are actually stable with this cooler lol
the nzxt kraken I had before was hitting 55c at idle
I have a brace on it now ;)
I really need to stop building in small cases, this thing was tight, especially that gpu fit and cpu power cable
not bad
60c highest on cpu and 60c highest on gpu
on max settings with raytracing and no dlss
gonna let this go for like 15 min
So far im really happy with this, maxing out at 62c and is hovering at 60c
60c hover
this is all with the side panels off, I'll do the tests again with them on later
heh later
furmark isn't even the heaviest test from my experience, at least not on my 7900xt
No lol
They stopped doing that because Furmark puts a load onto the GPU it will never experience in use, and has actually shown to be able to damage graphics cards.
Most notable reviewers and any decent hobbyist stopped using it some time ago when this was revealed
And?
So because Powercolor does, everyone does?
If anything furmark is less stressful than other things because it’s known what it does and drivers are aware of it so you don’t fry your gpu with it, so testing with it is still perfectly safe
You do know running Furmark can void warranties
Well of course, EULAS never get upheld
Just saying
It’s not furmark alone it’s if you run furmark or any other stresstest and disable safety protections of the cards
And even then less enforceable than xmp voiding it xD
Yeah uh... no.
No it’s Nvidia trying to stop people by covering their own asses
ok gl defending that in any EU court
Not something they even ask for it’s mostly so it says somewhere that you shouldn’t kill your gpu on purpose by removing safety limits
but removing limits isnt running furmark
Yes that’s why I said it’s not about furmark it’s about running furmark or others AND removing safety
even the limits i wouldnt know how its enforcable unless those limits are desoldered/soldered around
Yes hence it’s not something really enforced just to stop people doing dumb shit and them not being liable for more than normal warranty if it breaks
"you know opening the main menu in the diablo 4 beta voids your warranty"
we prob have seen more cards die to that screen than to furmark in the past 2 years
Blizzard truly are the kings of killing GPUs. First Starcraft 2's main menu, then Diablo.
Never have had any issues with furmark, with any stress test you will have a chance of damaging your equipment, as long as you use common sense you realistically wont damage anything easily
fur mark used to be bad now drivers recognize the pattern so it specifically wont damage it unless already faulty
Gpu's are also generally more power limited
In furmark specifically?
In general, I would say
Or at least comparing my hd7950 with my rx 7900xt
also my gtx 1080 was also mostly limited by frequency limits I think, actually didn't bother much with that one.
I will also add that the 7900xt does not scale well with power either way. Undervolt + 261w barely differes from the same undervolt with 290w

well, it does scale just on a fucked curve
like you can make it sip insane amounts of power on air even
I mean the 4090 is the same
I will say my testing was limited, and the power limit on linux is sort of bugged and doesn't want to go above 290w or so. But the performance increase seems to not be that great going up.
Especially compared to the golden era of overclocking 7950 which could outperform the ghz edition 7950 by overclocking.
450W vs 600W isn't that impressive of a difference
4090 is different as you can scale it down to use like nearly half the power for same performance
Ye
oc performance being gone is good for average consumers tbh since most would never touch that
Basically
Also most cards are running close to reasonable limit or above already anyways
Definitely is a good thing. Though I do mis the day of having some insane performance gains.
Undervolting is still a worthwile thing to do most of the time.
wonder who makes the better gpu next year
Nvidia.
Which is the more affordable one? Prob amd
AMD is probably not competing at the high end as the rumors are going.
idk the differences i saw between 7900xtx and 4090 wasnt all that big at 4k
High end is too much money amyway
My biggest hope for AMD is that they make more strides in closing the software gap. Even if open-source is basically forcing them to play catch-up I do respect it. They just really need a beter temporal scaler than fsr2.
Dlss was a mistake💀
Can you actually see the difference between dlss and fsr? When playing a game?
Also on the matter of rt, maybe they can make some software libraries that leverage their gpu's relative strenghts. lots of compute + rt on top.
I can see the difference between fsr2 and xess at least.
like even though i bought a 2080ti i never used rtx
i just dont dig those new age tech
on an amd gpu xess can have a definite improvement.
Comparing equally well done implementations, no, not really, can deffo see the difference to native tho
Of course implementation also matters a lot and suitability in games, some games just fail bigtime with FSR2 which really doesn't help.
Can't blame you, i don't play many games that use it either
Unless they are ghosting, they are about equal
And the only reason to turn it on in the few is if the regular lighting options are just extra bad
all i wanna do is play well at 60 and maybe 120fps
Dying light 2 was a game with a pretty stinky fsr2 implementation. Particles caused quite annoying fizzle, cutscenes broke pretty badly, overal not great.
I will add that my prime use was on a steam deck, so in terms of ress not great, just the least bad option.
On 1440p also not great. On 4k it's better but don't have a 4k screen right now.
i mean my 2080ti also does 60-120 in most games i play
just fearful with some of the newer games and specs they announced
On that screen size the artifacts are a lot more forgiveable
especially ff16 at some point
Of course but some game's artifact will also be pretty large so it compensates.
Dying light 2 was a prime example of fsr2 being completely busted and xess being much better.
wonder if i should just get a 7900xtx but i bet my butt my 9700k isnt up to snuff for that
should still be an improvement, my 8700k performed okay in most games with a 7900xt at least
I did upgrade that one later in the year but still.
you got any game/res/fps combo?
No direct examples but what I was playing gpu heavier games were still gpu-bottlenecked (on linux) and the big difference in terms of cpu was mostly cpu-heavy games.
i did also think about upgrading cpu but i dont wanna bother with basically rebuilding the entire pc
gpus will get a refresh on nvidias side in januar with the super series
rdna4 will come probably around computex but wont have the flagships
so kinda like rdna1 but we dont know what range it covers yet
That is a factor, and the 2080ti is much better than what I came from on the gpu side 1080 was definitely showing it's age.
guess ill just wait. 7950x3d cant get more expensive till then prob maybe
yeah deffo cant complain its more future proofing for games to come i wanna play
personal guess is we see nvidia super at ces, zen5 as well as amd saying we have a date to show rdna4 in x weeks
and ces is the next weekend
That, only thing I could say is that dram prices are going to trend up, probably not enough to compensate but still a minor factor.
in the sense that some games have bigger issues with fences and similar only with one of them so you know something is used but not really in a sense that you can differentiate them on itself
idk if id go more than 32gb tbh
I mean you can see comparsion videos
48gb would be something to consider probably
But when you are playing the game? Nah
i dont like that ''when playing a game argument'' what does it even mean? that you are unable to see what you are playing?
ill start putting together a list of parts to get a general price target i guess
prob will just keep using my darkbase 600
it means if I let you play a game and ask if none, dlss or fsr is enabled can you see which one it is or can you only see it's none or one of them
answer is unless its some specific game where its bad or you know it, you cant say if its fsr or dlss usually

this is one test
which is a side by side not blind tests while gaming
Sure if you pay attention to specific things, you'll see it. But most of the time the differences are so Minor
another big question i still need to decide on is if i stay watercooled aio or just go back to smth like dark rock pro
idk if people are picky like me and seeing pixelation even at 4k
watercooled cpu on amd side is just for looks these days
or like SFF builds that suffocate
but for now I'd just wait till CES to see what exactly we are getting from there
I just like my oversided aio for a cpu that really doesn't need it. 7800x3d + arctic liquid freezer 2 420
oh god lol
depends how much you dont care about image quality
It's not like it's that expensive a cooler either, had to get something new, so why not something that lasts me a few builds.
ye just prepping a list for a general price target
which rn is 2.5k
less than i expected tbh
fsr image is definitely not stable most of the time
7800x3d needs aio
if you want 0 noise 8 cores going at full power
aircooling aint gonna cut it
lmfao yes it is
......
i dont know about the top aircoolers
but fans need to spin a little bit
when all 8 cores are working
which in gaming is basically never
as if a game loads 100% on the cpu
well
if you only game you can probably even put the noctua passive cooler on it and it's fine
100% usage also doesnt always mean max powerdraw
but yea its rare
Mc doesn't use multicore, most you can do is multi thread.
Pretty sure
Even with mods.
modded can use a lot of threads
Yes threads
which will put quite a bit of usage
Yes but that ain't activating all cores
most games ive never seen more than 8 threads being used
as long as minesweeper, solitair and space cadet pinball work im fine
yea modded can activate those cores
but its mainly for terrain gen/loading
threadripper minecraft server goes brrrrr
If I want a mouse that has a razer deathadder v3 pro shape and is 8khz does it make sense to wait for Jan events or is there not anything new interesting likely to get released?
ye i got a price target now so ill just sit back and relax for the announcements
Has something changed in recent years, as I remember minecraft servers to not be particularly multithreaded. I remember overclocked desktop cpu's being a thing for large servers.
yeah its a mix now so server side threadripper with cores and frequency are in demand
especially for modded ones
which are basically all now
I remember that the anarchy server used to run on a desktop cpu that was oced since lot of players in one world but then that was for 1.12.2
But then most servers actually aren’t one server but many servers connected so it makes sense to have lot of cores
Forgot the name of the thing but there are multiple ways to connect spigot servers so people can seamlessly change when playing different minigame instances
We used it for wootupmc too
there have been so many attempts at multithreaded minecraft servers but it never really gets that far
or it's heavily modded and vanilla stuff doesn't work
I dunno about that.
Splitting individual chunks into cores seems to be working pretty well.
for first generation yes afterwards less so
Considering how well it helps mitigate lag machines, I'd argue it's doing quite well all things considered.
Is it a hacky workaround instead of a proper engine rewrite? Yes.
it's okay for minigames and stuff, but not really for true vanilla singleplayer, even good ol' papermc breaks a lot of stuff
There are a ton of performance mods for java version
nowdays
@shadow minnow irrc there is experimental version of server meshing avaiable publicly
Maybe big server ones have well working one
This is not workaround
The only way to properly scale a single mc world is to use server meshing
I literally never claimed it was a solution.
I never called it a workaround.
I called it a hacky workaround that is all you can achieve without an engine rewrite.
Now go be pedantic somewhere else, preferably Mojang HQ, since they're literally the only ones with the power to do what you want 😛
I am pretty sure not just experimental
talking with people like you is always waste of time ngl
Basically all servers with minigames have a different server for each
Yes but it’s also a thing small servers have
I don’t know of any that don’t acc
Though hypixel may have their own implementation
This could be done for quite some time I think.
Just offloading different "worlds" to different threads. seems relatively easy to multi-process.
Problem is often in minecraft that one world so to speak by far has the heaviest load, mostly on the world tick at least on modded ones.
Iirc bungee cord or waterfall tend to get used both were public for a while
Uhuh.
syncing is the issue
It basically makes going from one server to another seem like going from one world to another
You don’t use it for the same world
But for minigames etc where sync doesn’t matter
You’ll usually have at least one server for each minigame
Then multiple lobby servers
And more
making like portals to different world is much easier than making the same world work on multiple cores
Oh yeah making same world work on multiple cores is hard
What I meant is that for hypixel and such you always have multiple words
And each server has its worlds
Anyone have any good value suggestions for a multi-port charger that can charge my phone, laptop and Steam Deck at the same time?
my laptop needs 65W but it needs 3 Amps
my phone needs 18W
and the Steam Deck needs 45W
I would personally just get a 100w gan charger, you generally do not need to charge all of them at the same time, hell even 65w would be fine in most cases
Any specific model?
I saw one from uGreen but its not GaN
might be worth spending a bit more for a GaN charger if it can be the only charger I need to carry with me for all my stuff
I have the 140w from pluggable
140 seems overkill maybe?
Basically what I have, just paid a bit less for it: https://www.amazon.nl/UGREEN-Charger-Meerdere-4-poorts-Compatibel/dp/B0B6N75KFC

also have this one at work: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005329130989.html?algo_exp_id=84934b10-4ab9-4a48-8004-eb84885f06bb-0
Works great and is often around that price range.
How dose it handle multiple devices?
It handles them fine mostly from what I have used
the cheaper one I have not used that much with a lot of device, maybe 2 at most at a time, the ugreen one I commonly use with a smaller laptop + steamdeck + some other device at the same time.
Im a bit wary ofo ugreen
the USB switch I have from them stopped working suddenly
:/
I had a multi output pps charger and it would only do the same voltage to both ports
and I have it less than a year
Was annoying
I don't think that is case here though, have not verified but using it with iem's at 5v and some laptop that only charges at 15v both charge at the same time.
That has 2 pps ports and 2 normal ports
Also having usb-a ports is still nice as some devices don't like c to c cables.
Are you using the 2 pps ports?
cant even take that into dutch trains
90w max
Why I wish type c laptops would have setting for draw
does this one come with other plug types? cause if I buy this from this version of Amazon, it will come with the EU plug
There is no technical reason they dont
i just bought 3 90w chargers
My pinecil can
A 90w charger will trip it too though
didnt for me
All my chargers are rated to output
Even with gan, it going to be 95w+ input
But I wish laptops could set the input power
ye
My laptop have DC and type c in
And on planes/tranes I use a pps to DC adapter
So that it only draws 50w
Or is it 75w?
I forget
All I know is type c direct trips planes
It's just crazy my $25 soldering iron can dial power from 1w to 130w instantly
Just tested the ugreen one, it does in fact charge at 2 different voltages at the same time on the high output ports. tested 15 + 5v and 15+ 20v
Only has 2 high output ports though
In general I use a few different chargers.
One for my phone in my bedroom, one for most devices in my office / place I spend the day at home, one in my shoulder bag (single port) on the go, and one at work.
Yeah at home I have them all in different spots

How bad is discoloration of white plastic anyways? The razer death adder in white looks really nice but I don’t want it to get discolored over time, how long would it likely last?
Also re side creaking is it likely they fixed it not that I’d been a year?
TLDR you can make motion clarity better by lowering your hz on a high refresh rate display
I think I'll be trying this with the QFT trick to lower latency to the max as well
important point this is about impulsed displays like the DyAc from zowie
so if you have some of those TN screens that are esports first, for most others you'd just want VRR to be on in the range
yeah it's what I had. I just did it, plus QFT hax. was surprisingly simple
just wanted to point that out incase someone just sees your comment and thinks its about any high refresh rate screen
mane this looks absolutely nuts
nowadays mostly impacted by dirty hands, sweat and skin oils rather than UV discolouration
guess it worked. frame time runs the gambit from 2 to 12ms on 144hz
but 144 is a bit jerky, I'm going for 240 instead
frametime is just directly related to your fps, this isn't mkaing your frametime work any differently it's just how it gets shown visibly
Someone here reminded me earlier today that 24GB dimms are a thing, and I hate you 😛
Back into the spiraling jungle of finding RAM
you're welcome

tbf I would still just look at 64 for now
unless you can find 48 at more than just a bit cheaper
I was going for 32 before. I can't find a need for more using just two dimms
(also price)
single stick 32 works too then, easiest to keep it open for upgrades that way
oic, thanx for clearing confusion
since ddr5 has virtual dual rank so to speak you dont need two sticks anymore to get the performance
Mixing RAM speeds is such a pain though. I wouldn't be buying more for a long while, so finding an identical stick later might be more difficult and pricy than just buying another two sticks
assuming amd it's just 6000MT anyway and mixing 2 sticks is much less of an issue and 2 kits of 2 each
hell my sandy bridge 2400k has 2 sticks of 2 and 1 of 4gb iirc
Keep in mind that I currently have a PC that randomly reboots. I just want my shit to work 😄
I don't have anyone I can borrow RAM from, so for now I'll have to assume that mixing two 3600Mhz kits with different timings could be a partial cause.
well yeah the assumption is if you run out of ram on a single stick of 32 you would upgrade while the rest is stable xD
oh ddr4, so keeping your platform? I dont think 24g dims are made for ddr4
No no.
Just saying that due to my current situation, I don't want to risk a potential repeat from repeating "mistakes"
ah
What CPU is good with 4070?
I'm looking into i5 13600k/14600k or i7 13700k/14700k
Note: I mainly play 1080p, and I'm not planning to go 1440p
7800x3d
I know it's good for gaming, but I'd like to have overall performance
I mean then you gotta be more precise what you need it for
since even for stuff like rendering it depends what, if it's something that even makes use of more cores etc.
7800x3d
Average 30 games it wins
m8 he literally just said no to it since its not just for games
Oh
Yea, I'm not focused only on gaming, I don't really edit or render something, but I want good overall performance
Do you
well you gotta say what you mean with that
If you arent rendering, compiling, or using other software like that
And another thing would be that I have to change the MB
ah that's something else
Then what do you need more than 8 cores for
Which, Ik, another expenses
what do you have currently?
12400f
To avoid the GPU bottleneck, also, I have lag spikes in some games, for example fortnite
UGH the EU store for UGreen doesnt ship here ;-;
Irrc intel wins quite a bit price to performance if you can use all of its perf+ efficiency cores like 13700k
Fortnite will not use that
then you might want the 14700k as thats the only 14th gen that is different, got some more E cores
starfield will and you will get a little extra performance
but generally for 99% of the games the extra cores will do absolutely nothing for stutters
That's true
no but on intel they still cut down the cache on lower tier cpus and having more does help
Yea cache helps with lows
what websites do you guys use to get keycaps in EU/UK ?
If you want intel then just get ,14700k
Aliexpress
Is air cooling enough for it?
Yes
as long as you arent using all cores at once
top air cooler can cool like 250watts
but this cpu can def chug more
witht he classic fans behind a glass front so they dont do anything
I would put noctua fans instead
Oh there is glass in front lmao
The case has side intakes. But yeah - it looks odd.
Was about to say this
side intake only on one side and thats still a 90degree angle for it to move
there is some airflow yeah but I wouldnt put a 250w on aircool in that
when 250 means on all core it can exceed 300
This is better, no?
much better
just do check whatever cooler you have right now does work with the xx700k in gaming loads
In gaming loads it shouldnt be much more than 7800x3d
triple is with one p
I hate when websites dont put detailed output specs for their chargers ;-;
idk if this one will work for my laptop or not https://www.anker.com/products/a2668?variant=41974350315670#!
There is a specs tab
and the specs tab doesn't list the voltages it's capable of outputting
True
isnt that just defined by the usb-pd specs
I emailed the support to ask about it, so I will wait their reply
hopefully they ship here, need to get a USB C to C cable too for laptop
what voltage does the laptop want though
@wheat plume a Pic of the socket has been posted above
All USB-C cables must be able to carry a minimum of 3 A current (at 5 V, for 15 W) but some can carry 5 A current (at 20 V, for 100 W
I dont think it's possible to make usb-pd without meeting the spec such a laptop would need?
oo yeah1
ERP is over 100w
yeah this is for the minimum of the first spec
Yes, some laptops require higher voltages
Yeah my phone charger is only 12v max pd
no I mean is it even possible to have a charger that has too low voltage, unless you try to charge it with something that shows 15W charging anyway?
So, this one should be good for my laptop?
Like my ThinkPad x1 extreme (Gen 1)
It needed at least 15v
like at that point obviously, but if the wattage is in similar range does the pd spec even make it possible for the voltage to be too low?
Some 65watt chargers didn't work on that laptop
So a 90w 18v5a charger would do nothing for most laptops
wat
ok maybe I worded it wrong, lana knew what voltage it needs and I dont think 65W pd can be done on the usb spec without meeting what that laptop needs?
hm :/ so this charger wont work?
What dose the laptop need
this
no that is the opposite of what I just said
oh
That is a charger not a laptop
Yeah, but its the one that came with the laptop and the only one I used on it currently
idk what else I can tell you
What laptop is it
inb4 just buy a universal 120W laptop charger with every plug out there.
What model is it
I was about to buy that uGreen one but their EU Store doesnt ship to Ireland .-. so I found one on Anker that does ship here
here, but I cant find it on their product page anymore, I only have the info in my order decscription now
It needs 19v or 20v on the charger to charge
hmm
I thought this was settled already
what your laptop ideally wants
what the charger provides
