Yeah we have a 5 gallon of 99% iso at all times

Also haven't used it much for that though

umbral heron

I dunno, iso most of the time failed me with stickers residue, it just makes residue clump together, but it's still sticking

you just need to spend more time

when I took off the silicone pad off the uwu for painting the case, I rubbed it a good while with ipa until it was finally clean

I mean, yeah, in a pinch if you only have iso on hand it will work, but there is also stuff which does it better

Can we all appreciate how easy it is to assign each value in a list to a variable in Python?!

ashen spindle
#

so you discovered for loops

wheat plume
#

but this doesnt need a loop...

umbral heron
#

Sure you can do x,y,z = a with lists, you can also with dicts, arrays, etc.

pale sigil
#

You can also do 1,2,3

ashen spindle
#

I mean if you go over multiple elements then it loops, if you write for(;;) or if syntax hides it doesn't change that it has to loop over overy element

umbral heron
#

Sure, under the hood it's still a loop
But syntax is oh so much nicer

wheat plume

pale sigil
#

@umbral heron started playing palia again on my deck, how is controller support still so bad oml

umbral heron

umbral heron

List is Python native, array is more or less a wrapper around C arrays
Arrays are more memory efficient, because... C, but when it comes to something other than math and very specific cases lists are way to go

40% is pass but if I got 30% it still counts in the overall % so if I got 90% in the other task which was worth more overall it works.

#

It was a weird system that I abused.

In my case it was "how do you make a ServerSocket, I guess I just declare it, right?"

I had no issues with basics, but when it came to some more Java-like stuff and all of that Java EE bullshit...
Somehow slipped with 53% on this exam (51% is pass) dogekek

pale sigil
#

For me it was everything java

#

I can't remember what it was but we had to make a bunch of programs with it.

#

Can't even remember what we used.

#

Was so long ago at this point

umbral heron
#

We had mostly theory, most of the programs we wrote we were already familiar with from other programming classes
Still, I can't write Java for shite havo

pale sigil

Other stuff was using stupid tools to make a game, very low marks as it was more of an introduction to the concept of variables etc which I knew

ashen spindle

The fun part was programming with Lego robots, I gave up and just made a card game instead. Lego robots were an effort.

vagrant pagoda

I mean anyone actually running 1000w+ in North America should have a 220v outlet installed anyway

#

All modern PSUs are more efficient at 220v.

old marlin

that's not even a modern PSU thing

vagrant pagoda

Yes it is. Old transformer based psus dont care, as when you switch them to the 220v winding, the output of the transformer is the same.

#

you can just use multiple psus

vagrant pagoda

Why have multiple PSUs, when you can have one.

rotund crypt

if its like

umbral heron
#

More efficient, takes less space

rotund crypt
#

4x the price of a 1000 watt

#

get 4 1000 watts

#

ig it takes up less space yea

vagrant pagoda
#

Also PSU are most efficient in the middle of their power output

#

You don't want to run a 1200w at 1200w 24/7

#

Running a 2500w at 1200w is much easier on the components as they are in their most efficient operating range, thus making less heat

rotund crypt
#

efficiency is also really important at this level

#

I wonder if cybenetics will make their measurements on this once it releases

vagrant pagoda
#

When talking about a 1200w at 1200w vs a 2500w at 1200w, the 2500w will literally make half as much heat.

rotund crypt
#

if space isnt a concern you could just get 2 1200 watt devices no

#

that will distribute the heat to 2 seperate devices

vagrant pagoda
#

Why not run 10 250w?

rotund crypt
#

because thats lower than the TDP of a 4090 lol

vagrant pagoda

So

astral haven

I have a mostly working koolance PSU. They were neat, if ran on 220v it raised the ocp so it went from 1200w to 1700w

astral haven
#

And assuming peak efficiency is 50% that's still 72w
Cheapest 1300w psu is 108w at the same load

vagrant pagoda
#

There are sub 80 silver 1200w psus

#

So it would be way over 108w

astral haven
astral haven
#

And you cant possibly mean to say that the fsp is gonna be 160

#

And you are also trolling if you think that switching to 240 doesn't automatically provide efficiency benefits either

vagrant pagoda
#

It dose

#

But even with it, you are still more efficient at 50% than 100%

astral haven
#

On that psu sure

#

But it's not double

#

If you pay less for the 2 1200s then sure potentially

vagrant pagoda
#

You also can't fit 2 psus in most cases

astral haven
#

But if you spend even a reasonably close amount on the psus, it'll end up barely ahead

astral haven
#

Fortunately it at least should in theory support 210w, but I suspect efficiency takes a dive

vagrant pagoda
#

It's speced 200-240v inputs

astral haven
#

Oh and ofc the 2500 is less efficient than the ax1600i anywhere over 100w, and that's with the 1600i at 120v
The 1600i at 240v is unbeatable except for the mij

astral haven
#

208v not 210v my bad

vagrant pagoda
#

Most of these high power units only fall short of the 0%/10% tests for higher ratinfs

astral haven

And that highly depends on the psu
Generally the higher the wattage, the lower the ratio goes

vagrant pagoda

That because of phase rotation not voltage though

Because that was pretty old, I got a massive deal on this stuff, and Threadripper is really expensive for what my income was like and will be like for a little while longer.

#

Plus this stuff is fun.

#

I know I have three lanes left to play with.

I guess the idea is for you to snap off the extra pins that have no function.

ashen spindle
#

iron wave
#

I don't see why they couldn't just like, not include those.

#

But I suppose without a PCI-e bracket it makes some sense.

#

It just feels like the connector should be closer to the contacts.

#

Wait a sec, is the can connection on the back of that connector lifted?

#

Looks like a weird angle.

#

https://www.amazon.com/xiwai-Oculink-SFF-8611-Data-Cable/dp/B0BQ2G38YJ
This looks decent, hard to tell what exactly it's supposed to come with though.

#

This oculink pci-e converter enables belowing applications.

#

Looks like it's just the board.

ashen spindle
#

my guess would be because its a common pcb length and maybe easier to get the structure to not break vs something super short?

iron wave
#

I get why the board itself is that long, but you could just move the connector closer to the other end and have the same length.

#

I think I will just buy a M.2 adapter for now, if it doesn't fit I'm going to have to change my tactics.

ashen spindle
#

I would guess that's to put it away from the conneciton point to let cables fit better perhaps?

iron wave
#

Oh that's fair.

#

The M.2 slots do have some bulk to them.

I think these are funny.

fair gull
#

oh god.... sometimes i wonder how lana passed her exams

ashen spindle
#

what happens when if case is true, what if its false

ashen spindle
#

so what happens if the function gets called and the if case does not happen?

fair gull
#

very basic rundown of a very basic fallacy beginners run into with interpreted languages

woven laurel
#

ok we are spoonfeeding this

wheat plume

wheat plume

I already have a check in place if that if fails

woven laurel

if what fails?

ashen spindle
#

yeah but you are trying to return something you never made if hte if doesn't get called

fair gull
#

so how about explictly typing it that way and returning it that way

#

python has quite flexible type hints

woven laurel
#

what should the function return. so that the other function knows it fails

but this is the facto standard

fair gull
#

yes early returns are a standard that is quite established nowadays

woven laurel
#

you always check for the null case, the exception

#

its the fastest execution code

fair gull
#

well idk about fastest tbh but mainly makes code more readable as you dont stuff the expected path into a big if chunk

ashen spindle
#

ehhh that doesnt really matter nowadays

#

compiler be smart

fair gull
#

you stuff the exception into the if so the rest of the code isnt nested into something

woven laurel
#

well its still true

ashen spindle
#

not guaranteed

woven laurel
#

ofcopurse you can make an exception

#

dont be that person

fair gull
#

a human parser would deffo be faster at reading an early return

ashen spindle
#

compiler likely makes it the best way either way and you should always put readability first

#

if you get to the part that something like manual inlining or similar is needed to get more performance instead of not doing a double for loop, you are senior level anyway

woven laurel
fair gull
#

i feel getting bad compiler optimizations requires some real code gymnastics

ashen spindle
#

its not bad compiler optimization but ambigous stuff where you need to confirm it with compiler hints or such

fair gull

thats true

Can I get advice on monitor arms

#

Would anyone here say getting two single arms is worse than a single arm that holds multiple monitors?

#

Ik kinda debating it because it feels like it'll be easier to deal with it

ashen spindle
#

not much of a difference just get whats better for your setup

rich sand
timber mantle
#

That's what I thought. Now that they're doing a Founders Edition of the X2V2H. I might be interested.

#

I love the color. Is the coating improved? The original felt a bit slick.

rich sand
timber mantle
#

I'm talking about the coating, not the shape. Sorry if that was unclear.

rich sand
#

well i didnt try the older x2 so i cant compare it to the new ones. But no complaints on the coating

timber mantle
#

My understanding was that Pulsar mad a change with the Bruce Lee edition onward but I haven't handled one of the next gen yet.

rich sand
#

the side buttons are my biggest complaints, theyre so small

#

the scroll wheel is also hard to press down on sometimes, but some ppl get used to that.

#

but the clicks are some of the best i tried, theyre so CRISP

timber mantle
#

I prefer mech over optical usually but considering the issues Pulsar has had I get why they switched.

rich sand
#

more Pros are also using this mouse. so its going mainstream

timber mantle
rich sand
#

if its because of their software, u dont gotta use it. All settings can be on memory

timber mantle
#

I had a Naga Trinity for a few years and it was fine but I detest their software.

#

It's more that I'd rather support a smaller company

They tend to take more risks and gamble with new tech or designs.

ashen spindle

honestly yes

#

german VA is just atrocious

reef patrol

Cause DAMN that is hell on earth. Especially when you visit Poland and they dub the dub.

So you've got english VO, then half a second later the german overdub begins (which is pretty enthusiastic, proper VO) and THEN just after that, dull, polish "I am reading from a piece of paper, oh wow" begins.

umbral heron

That's why you don't watch the dub
It's atrocious in many cases ;-;
And when it's not it's usually well-known actors who do the dub, so you recognize their voices and it completely throws you out

these are two slot cards less than 300mm in length

if they could actually play around with the dimensions of the blower cards, they could definitely make good coolers that would fit most systems in that format, perhaps by making a three slot design, making the card a tad longer, perhaps even just making the card wider so that the heatsink can have larger area without making the card thicker and longer...

Definitely, It's one of those first time nitro trials, really not worth anything imo.
As for payment methods, it also serves to prevent people from farming the discounts.
Opening new nitro accounts to boost servers and such.

wheat plume
#

not first time

#

just long time of not having it trials xd

thick elk
#

Well either way you can't create 100 discord acounts with free trials to keep a server boosted or something like that.

#

I personally keep my Discord Nitro free.

wheat plume
#

or save all the codes and use them later as you need

thick elk
#

I don't know how long these keeps, it's not like these types of codes have been rare historically at least.

fair gull
wheat plume
#

yeh probably not

#

IDK why Windows should be there, doesnt matter the OS (Id assume) unless OperaGX only wants Windows users to get the promo or OperaGX isnt on Linux but I think it is

stone thicket
#

can someone help me?

#

with that

thick elk
#

Looks like a quick hack-job type of code sure but why should you go through the effort to check which headers are actually needed

wheat plume
stone thicket
#

nitro

fair gull
#

just download operagx, go to the promo, get the link and uninstall gx

#

this exploit is basically useless

vagrant pagoda
#

Yeah it's one free month every year

#

There are so many free month promos it not worth it

#

Maybe if you made a ton of accounts with prepaid cards, and cycled them for a month each over the year to boost your server

ashen spindle
#

damn, 50 million ps5 sales since launch and the both xbox series combined is less than half of that

#

means the ps5 is selling just as well as the ps4

halcyon moss
#

Nitro. Is not worth it

fair gull
vagrant pagoda
#

Yep

#

Even without exporting the gxl thing you can get enough codes for that

gusty kiln
vagrant pagoda
#

I mean PC sales are booming for gaming

#

People would rather PC+PS5 vs PC+Xbox

ashen spindle
#

yup as pc and xbox makes little sense

vagrant pagoda
#

And consoles are loss leaders generally, so I bet ms makes more from GP on PC than xboz

ashen spindle
#

ps5 aint

#

xbox no clue but with how slow it sells and the sales they need, yeah that hurts even more

vagrant pagoda
ashen spindle
#

lmao no

#

they said in 2021 it no longer sells at a loss

smoky frigate
#

sales look to be a bit mediocre at first glance, but we're also just at about the halfway point of this gen's lifecycle

ashen spindle
#

yeah I think it's a week behind ps4 sales or so

#

then the pro series will come out

smoky frigate
#

that's pretty good, considering you couldn't get any consoles for a few months

ashen spindle
#

i can see them take #3 or 4 in that list, if the pro is good and they have some compelling games

#

if not it will likely be around the ps4 mark

smoky frigate
#

I can't see the X axis without a subscription to statista, but I'll go on a limp saying that the hump at around the halfway point marks the release of the PS4 slim/pro

#

so if that's anything to go on regarding sales ratio of upcoming PS5 models, it won't double their sales but they can expect about a 15-20% boost

#

I think it will not be reaching the sales numbers of the ps4, but even then it puts microsoft to shame

#

it'll more likely be equivalent or slightly less than PS3 sales in my (rough) estimation

ashen spindle
#

I mean ps5 is keeping up and we have had not many amazing sales

#

now think that gta6 will come to ps first most likely

umbral heron
fair gull
ashen spindle
#

its yearly then monthly thats why it spikes there

fair gull
#

id imagine its because of numbers released

Has anyone ever accidentally plugged a USB C cable into the HDMI port on their mobo and shory their PC?

#

Because Christ I have

vagrant pagoda
#

Lmao

#

Like a USB a into Ethernet!

fair gull
#

totally never ever done this especially not with customer pcs

timber mantle
#

And with no really killer exclusive either.

ashen spindle
#

not killer but they have some good ones

#

gta 6 will blast the sales up though

timber mantle
#

Gross.

ashen spindle

maybe something else before even

don't doubt it for a second

#

PSVR2 seems rather impressive

#

given the rather unimpressive hardware it's running off of and general cost associated with such a setup

vagrant pagoda
#

I hope eye track makes it into PCvr in a big way

crisp granite
#

Added to steamVR

#

according to sadlyitsbradley

#

What actual devs do with it is to be seen

vagrant pagoda
#

The PSvr2 works on PC now

#

Idk if eyes tracking dose

#

It dose

#

You gotta pay though

#

Well I should say. They have shown it working

#

I don't own a psvr or the driver

#

There is more on the paetron

#

But who knows

#

Not like anyone has lied about that shit to get money

steep creek

Those lights look so small for the size of that car lol

Sorta reminds me of a fiat multipla

umbral heron
#

Russian multipla! And they managed to make it even more ugly dogekek

sharp badger
#

Yeah well maybe not the Multipla is hard to beat 😅

umbral heron
#

Well, it definitely looks like Multipla which came to Russia and was going back home after several bottles of vodka and samogon dogekek
