my mainboard has an 8 pin and a 4 pin cpu power plug, my psu comes with 4 + 4...
Do all 8 pins go into the 8 pin or do 4 go into the 8 pin and 4 into the 4 pin?

reef patrol
#

Read the manual for the motherboard

#

The last four pins are for more power for overclocking

gleaming oxide
vagrant pagoda

They are all the same

So 4 + 4 and 8+0 will work

I didn’t find the manual particularly helpful

ok. my idea is see the 4+4 as an 8 pin and youll be fine, right?

vagrant pagoda
#

4 pin is rated for 155w, and 24pin has 150w per the spec

#

The only thing that matters most of the time, is the the voltage sense for the mobo telling it the connector is in

#

That is on the right bottom most pin of the 8 pin

#

With the latch on top

#

Best to just plug 4+4 into the 8 pin

#

Ironically I have both 8 pins on my mobo plugged in with a x3d chip lol

.tar is an archive
.bz2 .zst .xz are compression methods

cursive summit

.tgz and .txz should not exist lol

#

That is just cursed

ashen spindle

umbral heron

umbral heron

.tar.zst?

Why is .tgz and .txz both just .tar.gz

#

Seriously who allowed someone to cook

umbral heron

txz is .tar.xz, sorry

cursive summit
#

What's a tar.xz havo

#

Why can't we just all .rar

pale sigil
#

we can

umbral heron
#

.tar is useful if you only want to bundle some files into one and you don't want to compress them

pale sigil
#

and zip

ashen spindle
#

reading hard again today I see

vagrant pagoda
#

for back in bbs days

pale sigil
#

But they are not native to Linux

umbral heron
#

.xz is the same algotihm as .7z for example

ashen spindle
#

you Tape ARchiver and then different algos and the options to combine it to one file ending

#

not very complicated

vagrant pagoda
umbral heron
#

So is .xz, but .7z can be either LZMA or LZMAv2, and .xz is only LZMAv2

vagrant pagoda
#

xz predates 7zip

#

the guy who made the og lzma sdk that xz is based on makes 7zip

#

Igor Pavlov

#

who for somereason never made a linux version for ages

#

hence p7zip

umbral heron
#

Given .7z is from 1999, but .xz is from 2009...
Also .xz was also created by Pavlov

vagrant pagoda
#

no

#

xz isnt from Igor

#

xz uses his sdk, ported to linux

#

and i ment predates 7zip on linux

#

the old versions of p7zip were iffy

#

so xz was made, and is much more unix/linux like in its flags and such

#

after offical linux support of the offical 7zip, most have dropped xz

#

think only gnu uses xz over 7zip

#

as the rar part of 7zip isnt gnu compat licence

umbral heron
#

From tukaani, led by Mike Kezner, dude who wrote .xz specification https://tukaani.org/xz/xz-file-format.txt
And later Igor Pavlov helped create XZ Utils, which was LZMA-SDK ported to Linux
.bz2 and .gz were earlier, but .xz is relatively new

vagrant pagoda
#

Igor never worked on xz, its just his code ported

#

Igor released the sdk as public domain in 07 or 08

#

but it was windows only

#

xz was that code ported to nix oses

#

but in the last few years everyone has been moving to the offical nix version of z7ip

#

Igors code is like a master class in file compression though

#

which is why 7zip is still a standard benchmark for cpu performance

#

the decomp code is like only a few hundred instructions long, and the entire code with file handling for windows is like a few KB

Speaking of weight, I will say the oled feels a bit lighter, but it may not be the actual weight at all.
If the screen is lighter and the battery is a bit heavier it could just be that there is more weight in the center relatively which makes it a bit more stable.

After Russia's hypersonic missiles completely failed I now see why they are having trouble with the tech
The problem you face isn't necessarily making a rocket go fast, it's making it go fast and not get intercepted. It doesn't matter if you have the speed if the radar team can get intercept you well before your target

#

Russia's design seems to just use a rocket engine. allowing for "up to Mach 10" Which would make it hypersonic. I imagine this method comes with a lot of downsides though, for one I presume a shorter range/smaller warhead since it need to carry the oxidants with it?

#

Considering Russia decided to punish the designers of the hypersonic missile it does seem that the country likely "invented" it "first" for propaganda points and not because it a hypersonic rocket would've been effective. The US developing a Scramjet imo likely indicates the US knew ahead of time it was better to just develop Scramjet

#

I decided to look up the definition of a missile, and the military definition seems to require a guiding system according to wikipedia. Russia's hypersonic weapon however is unable to dodge AA, and lacks any accuracy, having only been used to hit large targets. So it might be more accurately called a "Hypersonic rocket".

Welp, at least I have two sets of feet

Also, considering I’m planning on using a superglide pad with superglide feet, you’d think they’d have tested them to not be destroying each other

"ah yes this totl card does 600fps in overwatch 2"

#

once there is a good custom map to benchmark

hardy idol
old marlin
#

tbh it should kinda cover both imo?

old marlin
#

a representative situation + a very intense one

odd sleet
#

I see that the 1% lows is 210 or so and average fps is about 500-600 can u really notice it drop to 210 on the 1% lows

old marlin
#

yea

old marlin
odd sleet
old marlin
#

you have entirely different scenes

#

it's not repeatable at all

odd sleet
#

Yea

old marlin
#

yea no shit the fps in the small hallway is higher than the one in the open area

#

big surrpise

odd sleet
#

Thats why i wanted someone to play a real game with all the explosions gunplay smokes and stuff but i cant find any

#

Like competitive and wingman

old marlin
#

"explosions and gunplay smokes" are also not repetitive though

odd sleet
#

Same people on valorant they only do deathmatches

old marlin
#

there are real benchmark maps for csgo

#

cs2 still needs them

odd sleet
#

Yes

#

Thats what i mean

old marlin
#

and val just has no option

old marlin
#

a benchmark map essentially is like a themepark ride

odd sleet
#

Yeah

#

They have it in cod

#

Im pretty sure

old marlin
#

thing is

#

how representative is it of real gameplay in the end

#

repeatability can lower accuracy a lot

#

having less players/network or extra bots can change how a game runs

odd sleet
#

But supposedly this cpu is the best for gaming right now in the world so it should run good for the fps games i play and is a bit overkill but yeah

#

Can u notice 1% lows while playing even know u average like 500 fps? And if u drop to 200 on 1% lows

odd sleet
#

Just hope the 1% lows are higher then 240 always in cs2

#

I guess i mean idk if u even notice it

odd sleet

Nvidia: yeah, CUDA works on all our GPUs, no matter if consumer or workstation, no matter Windows or Linux
AMD: We've just added ROCm support for 7900XT on Linux! For a total of... 3 consumer GPUs! SilvFacepalm

umbral heron
ashen spindle
#

Yup amd still struggling with having like a tenth the software people of Nvidia for that software stack but hey it’s a first step, hoping they will commit to more on ai day dec6

umbral heron
#

Point is ROCm and it's HIP is supported on all RX500+ GPUs already, AMD themselves released patches to open-source drivers years ago
Back in the day they also heavily advertised RX 6xxx for consumer AI/ML workflow PeepoShrug

ashen spindle
#

That’s because gcn is what turned into cdna so it’s kinda the same architecture and much simpler to add support for

#

And then rocm is also basically a software stack first made for the DoE and expanded from there

#

That coupled with dGPU being one of their lowest priorities makes it an awkward combination

civic raft

latent mural

umbral heron
#

Because?

boreal kiln
latent mural
dapper horizon
# latent mural because wired mice fuckin sucks

acutally depends on other devices you have in your computer. If your using for example and external hdd or another device that is in a usb 3.0 port, and you have the dongle to a wirleless mouse close to it, you will loose performance of your wireless mice because of the SNR (Signal to noise response) interference.

latent mural
#

im not reading that, well said tho

dapper horizon
#

so in fact, 1000 polling hz might not be 1000hz 🙂

latent mural
#

indeed

dapper horizon
#

But poki always have over 900 hz polling rate, huh? 😉

odd sleet
dapper horizon
#

<@&375234916776017933> actually would be really nice to see if you have thought about this in the process of making a wireless keyboard. The SNR between a wireless Keyboard and other wired devices in to a computer. And if you have shielded your connector or not 😄

marsh glade
#

Please don't ping the entire company 😐

odd sleet
#

Idk but wireless keyboards are pointless to me imo unless u don’t want any cables in the way

boreal kiln
dapper horizon
#

yea i agree with you. I work with Frequency and SNR is a part of that. Thats why i find it interesting 😄

odd sleet
#

Unlike wireless mouses u move them alot but a wireless keyboard just stays in one spot when using it so thats why i never got one

odd sleet
#

But u do u

boreal kiln
dapper horizon
#

Yea its a user setting.

odd sleet
#

Im sure they know how to change it but its only used for important things

#

Probably

#

But im not staff team so who knows

boreal kiln
dapper horizon
# odd sleet Not really sure what that is sounds to smart for me

Well basicly if your interested. There is alot to do with it. Ex if you have a new gaming KB, lets say a wooting using usb 3.0 that could interfere with a wireless mouse and make it not perform at the level it should be because the interference in the SNR sphere 🙂

marsh glade
#

Being able to ping in case of emergency is important, pinging for product suggestions is not

dapper horizon
#

No suggesstion @marsh glade i was just curious and if that made some rage, sry.

marsh glade
#

No rage, just sharing proper etiquette

dapper horizon
#

odd sleet

Where can i find videos of a lian li Galahad 360mm aio cooler paired with a 78003XD don’t see any on YouTube

#

Want to see what the temperatures would be

dapper horizon
#

Taken from reddit: liamus

4 mo. ago
Lian li Galahad 360

after CO at -15,

idles at low 40s,

games at 50-60 with peaks at 70-ish,

cinebench at low 80s,

I keep the pump at 70% and fans at low rpm,

the loudest thing is the pump wine really.

ashen spindle
#

Because you just look at how well it cools any other cpu with the same powerdraw

#

Also you don’t need watercooler for that cpu

odd sleet
#

Yeah i know i was told that one is overkill for it anyways thats the one i have now already so just wondering

ashen spindle
#

Well if it’s overkill just look at what you will get yourself

dapper horizon
ashen spindle
#

If you already have it and know it’s more than enough

odd sleet
#

Dang the artic freeze goes to 3k rpm max??? Holy

ashen spindle
#

That one can cool cpus that draw more than double the power of yours so it’s absolute overkill

odd sleet
#

This is my current build

odd sleet
#

Yea I’ve researched and seen that for what it pulls out for how much it puts out is insane

#

Does just as good in gaming as a i9-14900k but draws way less power and cheaper

#

Not sure how hot it will run though probably not hot

#

Im probably going to undervolt it and thats it

#

Just let it run stock ghz

dapper horizon
# odd sleet This is my current build

aaai, eew stop hurting my eyes! 😉 Im more of a none light at all but silent kind of a guy when it comes to computers. No means to look inside your computer since you looking at a screen 😉

ashen spindle
#

You might want to switch your radiator position though since the way it’s currently in traps air at the top which could lead to issues

odd sleet
dapper horizon
#

haha yea maybe! xD

odd sleet
ashen spindle
#

The highest point in this setup is the tubes so if air accumulates it would be there which can’t be pumped so it could lead to worse temperature including losing performance or even break it after a while if just air is left on top

#

So you’d either want to flip it or mount it at the top

odd sleet
#

Ohhhh

#

So is that why the top of the front of my pc is always so hot?

ashen spindle
odd sleet
#

And the middle and bottom are cool

ashen spindle
#

No that’s just the regular airflow

odd sleet
#

Oh ale

#

Alr

#

So thats normal

#

So i could just rotate the radiator the whole other way where the tubes are facing downwards and it will be good?

#

@ashen spindle

ashen spindle
#

Yup

odd sleet
#

Or doesn’t matter

ashen spindle
#

Just flip it so you don’t need to switch the fans on top

odd sleet
#

Okay yeah thats what i was thinking lol

#

Once i get my new cpu motherboard and ram I’ll do that also soon

#

Ty for telling me

ashen spindle
#

Yeye it’s not going to break anything in a few days it’s just after some time if enough air came into the system

odd sleet
#

Not sure why the guy that made the pc didn’t do it the right way

ashen spindle
#

Too many places don’t do it right, including manufacturers themselves lol

odd sleet
#

Damn

#

Yeah the guy built well over 500+ pcs

#

So I’m surprised

#

I got the pc for $800 instead of $1600 which is how much its worth half the price very good deal

Should the installation be on the m.2 for streaming higher bitrates or on the ssd to relieve the c drive?
Star citizen is 100% cpu bottleneck
