Just look at clock speeds / how much power it can still pull.
a good aio can probably pull a bit more but I don't think it would result in much higher performance.

Decent example of what you could expect, granted on amd granted a little less power used but there is definitely a gap between the nh-d15 and the liquid freezer 2 280
Either way what also matters here is that the liquid freezer 2 generally outperforms asetek solutions with thinner rads and smaller pumps so the old wisdom that sustained a tower cooler is about the same no longer holds true.

They are made to handle it, should be fine. The problem in your case is that you seem to not be able to pull a lot of power from the cpu.
So performance is suffering from your cooler.
The cpu is rated to at least last the warranty period under tjmax.

Just an anecdote but I have had some intel cpu's run without a cooler for half a year no issues. Apart from the person using the system failing to report it being dog-slow.

Depends on if you are using the aio in front or at the top. generally you want to intake from the front and exhaust from the top.
on which side of the radiator both work fine.
Then probably have the fans blow air as intake so blow air towards the motherboard / cpu.
the cpu is cooled by the radiator where the fans are, blowing slightly warmer air towards it would not matter here, it would only raise the gpu temperature a bit.
still both options are generally fine and it does depend on the case.
Push pull for aio's is generally not needed though.
often the bottleneck lies elsewhere than getting enough air through the fins.

My old phantex case fits my liquid freezer 420 just fine, my new be quiet case states in the spec sheet its supports it but it's a tight fit pushing against the front panel connectors.
