Also YouTube is weirdly pissing me off
I think they have trackers on my browser, cause I recently revisited an old twitch streamer that I haven't watched for ages, their content has changed as well that has absolutely nothing to do with my interests
I hate cars, I don't like anything that has anything to do with cars as its main focus, however this streamer does and they stream cars primarily
So on Twitch, I visited a stream of theirs where apparently EA released some new motorcross game and so I was like "it's EA, it's prolly shit", watched for about 2 hours and left
Why now 2 days later is my youtube feed full of EA motorcross game videos
This is genuinely concerning

I love it.
The build matches Makita almost perfectly
Makita?
AMD Risc-V processor?
Why is it only 32bit
Why's it 28nm?
Is x86 and risc that different lol
The MicroBlaze is a soft microprocessor core designed for Xilinx field-programmable gate arrays (FPGA). As a soft-core processor, MicroBlaze is implemented entirely in the general-purpose memory and logic fabric of Xilinx FPGAs.
MicroBlaze was introduced in 2002.
Oh it's ancient stuff
oh look clickbait
Oh hey the website that Quin doesn't like is here
MLID is now an Intel leaker? Not sure how he gets so many sources in the industry, usually he's wrong
The orange cat is Shiek, white cat is Makita
Thought it was a construction tools themed PC
now? he mostly is talking about intel lol
He usually talked about AMD
Intel's a new thing for him?
lol no
Has anyone actually verified his claims that he worked in the semiconductor industry?
Pretty sure he claimed he has real contacts cause of his experience
Lmao
Makita Japan has white tools
Really? We have these ones
he has real slides so a case of fake it till you make it doesnt mean most of the stuff is still wrong and he doesnt actually know whats happening
The white used to be the made in Japan ones
Aren't these original tools?
They have green too but I've never seen on irl
China, USA, Taiwan and mexico
Oh hell yes, Project Farm to the rescue https://youtu.be/l7hd4rKf2us
Made in "Japan" Makita vs made in "China" Makita impact driver comparison. Let's compare maximum torque, no load RPM, speed at removing lug nuts, and speed driving in fasteners. Finally, let's tear down both tools to compare the internal parts. I always buy all of the products tested and never accept sponsorships or even promotional items to ...
This guy pumps out vids and while I don't care much about DIY, they are weirdly interesting to watch
Pink?
Yep
Japan gets the cool shit
But back to the topic
Romans albino maine coon's name is Makita
oh yeah he's strangely entertaining
Because it isn't fake
It's just some dude in his garage doing what he wants
The mix of industry standard testing, with shit cobbled together with scrap is good
Anyone here proficient with mics?
Ehhh not really?
RMA ✅ back in business lads
Few audio nerds here they might help
Describe your issue bud
I need a new mic
Something like this
Ah, these
You sure you don't want to get a mic arm and something good?
Yeah I do
Ah so you are looking for something good
But don't got mone LOL
KEK
Also this I was gonna put on mic arm
Pricing?
thats an issue in all aspects of this hobby
Painless USB for now
XLR far better quality, but USB is more than good enough
Yeah I know
Well, i have this microphone and I am really happy with it
It's for streaming but I don't want to get a heck ton of things on my table as I'm moving a lot
I bought Marantz MPM-2000U for 100 euros
If you are streaming, buy proper shit, not gaming trash
Marantz is good, AudioTechnica is good
Again, I have Marantz MPM-2000U
If you have good headphones, I can pop into voice chat and talk for a bit
Not sure if that's a demonstration of any kind
Rn I got fking cloud2s, so shit
Legendary AT2020 is nowadays in USB https://www.audio-technica.com/en-eu/at2020usb
Rode is pretty damn great but they are quite expensive
Yeah that's a bit too much for my money
Fair
look up the quadcast im telling you
Quadcast is eh, I don't feel like it's any good
You can always be a basic bitch though and get the Blue Yeti
It's like agaming mic
as far as usb mics go its pretty solid
Nah Blue Yeti is shit
Nothing really wrong with blue yeti
I've heard this mic on my genelecs and it's good
and if money is a limiting factor you only have so many options man
Well I'd rather not buy something that I'll switch in about 1-2 yrs
And give 100s of euros
Well this mic I've heard and had in hand before and feel like it's good
Not only for RGB but for idk, just how it sounds
And the fact that it can go XLR too
The absolute good quality minimum is at2020 with a behringer xlr interface
About 130-140
But the quality is far higher than USB
Idk I have the Marantz and I like this thing quite a bit
I'll see myself
i have the shure sm7b, go xlr and Sennheiser 660's. can never go back to anything less now 😂
Solid build
Rare to see a 660 user
Most people are basic bitches and go with 600 or 650
not exactly an audiophile but i do love my extra crispy notes for music and film
Nah
how you gunna have those headphone but can't be bothered to get a half decent mic LUL
Cause I don't have money now?
Not everybody needs a mic anyways
15$ clip ons are good enough
Unless you are actually recording, what's the point of getting a good mic lol
I use my 2e clip on for streaming and it's great only issue I have is noise that is sometimes in bg
Sound from it is good
I don't need some XLR full desk 2nd PC streaming setup
I'm doing it for fun for now atleast
Less than 50%
like wise
Good
I'll risk it with the mic I sent and hope it atleast works better than my clip on
best of luck to you
My computer doesn’t work 🙁
I changed the power cable and tried a dif outlet
It worked fine yesterday and I don’t think anything changed overnight
samething happened to me last month, had to RMA my gpu
Which one are you interested in, v?
Yeah sounds good
I’d be fine with that too most likely
yup thats why m3 pro got nerved compared to m2 pro, too much value cant have that in an apple offering
mobo battery dead?
How is that nerf
the offering relative to the rest of the stack got nerfed
Yeah but the cut to more e core will give better battery life
The leaks are it's 14% faster single thread like all the M3, but only 5% faster multicore
Max 14” starts at 4350$ here😬
still got an obvious cut to save on cost and/or get people pushed towards the other options
Or you know battery life
Thermals
Etc
I’m curious to see how fingerprint resistant the space black one is lol
I think the difference is because the p-gpu pairing wasnt great for the pro
So they lowered p cores
M2 pro was 8:4 with 19c GPU, max was 8:4 with 38c gpu
Now it's 6:6 with 18 and 12:4 with 40
M3 at 4:4 with 10
What is that?
it starts up for a few seconds then turns off
I know nothing about computers btw
not like its a console lol, plenty of people that could do with more cpu and same gpu
Now it's better scaling
Why get apple silicon if you're not using their accelerators
the motherboard has a small battery. once that drained it needs replacing. takes a long time for that tho, is the pc old?
does anything come on the screen?
faulty ram is also sometimes an issue but weird that would just die
also open up the case and check if you have diagnostic lights on the mobo
plenty of people use macs and do non gpu heavy work lol
I didn't say gpu
I said accelerators
??
Lot of vram and efficiency as well as the os
Lot of vram
wat
You can use all the ram as vram
yeah thats not apple specific though
anyway, chips are expensive, the pro was offering relatively good deals before, whats so hard to imagine they wanted to cut costs when they can
That isn't a console
The M3 pro is faster than the M2 pro
They didn't downgrade it
Lol
I didnt say it's worse than the m2 pro still
It just didn't get as big of a bump as m3 and m3 max
The stack has better scaling now
Yes
the pro was cut down inside the m3 line compared to the others
The max is a monster now lol
I mean I've used a M1 8gb
Zero issues with daily tasks
upgrading the base m3 from 8 to 16 only saves about 300 ish euros from the m3 pro, so might as well get that then imo
thats true, but im fine with anything over 10 hours personally hah
The base M3 is silly in the pro though
And what's the base ram in its competition
Oh yeah 8gb of solder ram
Which is way way less useable
Lmao
How long? I’ve had this pc for like a year
And is the battery the like silver coin looking thing
Macos almost better with 8gb than win 11 is with 16gb
yeah no that shouldnt be the issue then
but that is it yeah
Wait maybe it is
I got it from like some pc shop that builds them
I think this one has like old parts or something 🤷♂️
WoA wouldn’t change screen or costs
Not really
After all the last Surface attempt at something in that area was shut down by MS
Otherwise we’d have maybe no Steamdeck but Surface laptops with Van Gogh
Question: To pick up the 14th gen refresh now or wait till late next year for 15th gen to release? (currently have i7-9900k , does the job but im at 100% utilization on most title and when streaming)
Personally I'm waiting for Zen5 earlier next year
15th gen will be towards the end of next year too
not earlier
Old news.
hmm always had intel but amd does have some very good offerings last few years
Posted today?
my personal guess is a CES announcement in the first january week and some time later it's out
Q1/2 while 15th gen seems to be Q4 of 2024
yeah, you're thinking zen5 is gunna come out on top over the 15th gen when they both release?
Weeks ago.
I think zen5 will be on top as well as 2-3 quarters out earlier
They announced the whole link thing a while ago. And we had a whole debate about it then.
prices isnt the issue, i just want the best possible piece of hardware i can get at the time so i dont have to buy another one for 5-6 years
zen5 server chips are out in the hands of first big customers which is why I think CES is a time they could announce it and release some weeks later
alright i guess ill hold out for a bit longer and see the bench marks and pricing of zen 5 compared to 14th gen
waiting a few months sounds alot better then pretty much a whole year for 15th gen 😂
Had to use my old 970 ftw3 for a few weeks waiting for my RMA to come back O_o
oh no haha
trying to play modern warfare at like 30-40 fps was fun
but we back to 100+ most of the time with the strix 3080
everything is good in the build besides the damn 9700k holding it back
You could just get zen4 right now, waiting is something you can keep doing forever because there is always something new around the corner.
Considering the competition value wise I doubt zen5 is going to make huge waves.
oh yeah we're all to familiar with the tech catch up game 😂
but thats exactly why i wait for 5-7 years between upgrades to get the most bang for my buck because i can't be bothered upgrading every year
I mostly skipped the last gpu generation because the price may drop. Now I bought an overpriced 7900xt which later dropped in price.
Honestly I am at peace with it.
yeah that was me with my strix 3080, had to enter the newegg shuffle for it but it was a bundle with a motherboard i dont even use
but it was a card i knew i wanted so i sent it and actually got picked surprisingly
should have sold it years ago but its just sitting around for now...
What mobo is it?
ASUS TUF Gaming Z590-Plus WiFi 6
1464 for the bundle
so 1200 for the card and 300 for the board about
Kind of sucks as a motherboard, one gen later and you could have gotten a decentish upgrade for cheap cpu wise a but 11th and 10th gen, not really interesting at all.
Wait wait wait https://www.extremetech.com/computing/microsoft-ceo-ai-copilot-is-the-new-windows-start-button
No, no, no
Start button??
ah hell nahh
Ah good it's a shit clickbait headline
The person just said "Nadella said he sees it as the new Start button for Windows users"
So, it's not going to get replaced to the point you need to ask AI to turn off the PC
I want as more AI as possible but not compromising on usability
easier then Cortana 😄
there is stuff inside???
No, it's all nanomachines, son
great ☺️
Is that not what typically happens anyways
I mean wooting if I remember correctly simplified and removed some semiconductors on the two HE after the two HE Lekker edition
🤔
Wonder if this is the same case for the series x
Cuz in the 360 days there were so many skus
No disc drive
But probably the heatsink is probably the same on the Xbox series x cylinder
That is so weird
Is that a legacy classic game?
Guess the lack of emulation support in the past put them at a disadvantage
Either that or the game is scripted different, cuz even some games on Xbox classic old ones have their quirks
I wish Army of Two: The Devil's Cartel was supported
They have both of other ones
Still though one can play Xbox original games
happens when you are used to bulldozer and then get zen working at expected TDP xD
Ah this game, the one that they tried really hard to market but the game was quite bad
All I know about it is that it has bad puzzles and a fuck ton of downtime, bad controls, and is in general quite meh
Has good reviews, somehow
How is emulating GC a pain in the ass, granted in the past there were lots of bad dolphin releases and you had to pick-and-choose the right one but other than that it's one of the easier ones.
Haven't tried it in the last decade or so but that used to be about it.
Those are not games I have actually played either.
I should try the older mgs games sometime, but having been bored rather fast in mgs4 and later playing mgs5 I have not given the earlier titles a fair chance.
Or any chance for that matter.
🤔
but DIscord was on Flathub for a while now
was it uploaded by third party???
Got to love how the Spotify app only exists on Linux so that their developers who work on making the app can listen to music while working
Wondering why i switched back to intel? Let's talk about it.

no
what i was trying to explain
Cause he got sponsorship money?
no it might even be valid reason but he does stuff like OC memory out of spec and blames it on intel etc.
because of the exact reason i was talking about earlier
we dont even know if zen5 will have mixed CCD offerings so that might not even be a thing
the x3d's weirdness when it comes to high ram speeds
true, just didnt know if what i said earlier made sense and it just so happened he made the exact video a few hours later
like I assume with a 3080 you're not running a 1080p60hz screen right?
in which case fast memory wont even matter
4k isnt worth playing even if you could
unless its a single player game i guess
but nothing competitive
and i can confirm the strix 3080 can't support 4k
well maybe 60 fps
yeah 1440p means you barely even notice the difference of jedec or OC'd ram so no issues even if you get a board/ram combo that doesnt do high frequency
and that is assuming it all stays the same
but of course both amd or intel could have other issues for any new release
this is true
but yeah for my "normal" use case the different would be minimal
just a fair bit of reports of weird issues when booting with higher frequency ram on the 3d chips
we're talking about ram not a cpu
yes, those are the ram speeds you get on ddr5
and the ram controller in the cpu matters too
Been a while since I last a JayzNonSense video.
The 7950x3d is not the best CPU though.
Wouldn't surprise me if his cpu didn't actually run stable at -30 offset.
It definitely isn't a one off, that is true
but it both got better and higher resolution means memory is less important, with v cache doubly so
Actually got somewhat similar issues from what he described for a bit. But figured it was unlikely to be memory related as they mostly happened during idle, where I would expect memory related crashes not to be centered around my pc idling.
Bumped the offset a bit and it fixed it.
Is this not a thing for a long time now? Codec loyalties?
does anyone know of a 10ft usb c to a cable that would work with wooting two he
check amazon
I'm sure the codec creators agree
Work in progress
What phone
Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G
Interesting dimensity with T-Mobile support
Might actually get a oppo phone next year
I want to ask you all why I have to manually click on the wooting driver every time I turn on my computer to get it to work? How do I get it to boot up?
I'm pretty sure that's all EU phones lel
Does it matter if i don’t have one of my screws in to screw down my pcb because one of them will just refuse to go in.
The conglomeration is somehow allowed to continue
ok.....
RIP Start Menu?
I'm going to bet the old start menu remains an option to be toggled.
And if not, we still have plenty of third party alternatives to bring it back.
or it is finally linux time
windows 10 iot ltsc EOL 2032
o
not really but somewhat
most people dont know their computers use Windows. they wont be able to install LTSC xd
Well that's just plain not true. It's literally plastered everywhere during startup.
yeh but those people would have someone else do that setup for them , family member etc etc
even the stores here offer to do it for you if you buy a laptop from them
So?
It's like claiming someone who owns a Ford couldn't tell it's a Ford.
The logos and brand name is everywhere
Those people wouldn't know iOS, Linux and so on either. That's not a problem specific to Windows.
yeh they just say iPhone
those people also don't care lol
but its hard to install software if you dont know the name of your OS
unless you only use the windows store
not with windows
well, on websites that autodetect your OS, then yeah fair xd
even outside that
unless you want very specific software
at which point you probably know what os you are running
you don't need an account
i run ltsc on my machine, but actually getting it as a consumer is very much in the grey area
OpenAI is actually afraid of Gemini lol
128k token context update
Again?
They should've just reuse good ol' XT60s, maybe slap some additional control pins and we're good to go

they only take 30A tho
60A peak
so 360W at 12V
just have a NACS plug
those do 900A
(and 1000V)
Then stack 2 xt60s next to each other
Still more elegant and way easier to cable-manage than PCIe 8-pins
certainly more than the funny pigtails they got now
Is there a good reason to split +12V to several lines? Beside the fact you can use higher AWG cables
cable flexibility?
Those are what, 18-16 AWGs? You could swap them for 12 AWG and it'd be around the same like a bunch of 16 AWGs
Wouldn't it be easier to handle 2 12s instead of 8/12 16s?
no
for the people that dont like battery life
8K Polling Rate DLC?
On a related note
What would be relatively cheap and good "ultralight" mouse? I'd like to try it out, given my daily driver is... what it is
what do you consider ultralight
depends on what you define as "relatively cheap" and "ultralight"
i kinda like the maya if that fits your needs
I would presonally just not buy lamzu
if the company cheaps out on something like FCC registrations then something is up
especially when it is a "company" like lamzu
just gonna say that i didn't have any issues with my lamzu mouse
Relatively cheap I mean $120 ~ PLN500 or thereabouts
And any mouse will be ultralight compared to mine tbh
yea but if they cheap out on certs then something is up
well ig depends on what you like
atm am enjoying the op1we a lot
certainly not a shape for anyone tho
with how you talk about your old mouse the deathadder v3 might be a good choice?
or radiatiok
would not be a first
I'd love to see something on a bigger side, I have big hands, but I use claw grip
it didnt happen yet thoo
yea i'd still be avoiding them just because of that lol
molten plastic looks yummy
maybe look at the xm2we from endgamegear od deathadder v3 pro
interesting
both have a cheaper wired variant as well
counting these as ultralight
like they put the label of their fcc certs on top of the battery (not complaint)
interesting
idk what you define as "ultralight"
sub 40
good luck having that with a slightly large-ish mouse
That excludes your mother then.
i'd hope so
40kg sounds massively unhealthy for someone in their mid 30s+
more like 40s
ye don't know hold old your mom is
good 😄
but realistically being active on discord with a mother ~35 is not that rare
statistically speaking
i feel like this discord is full of older people tho
boomer discord
what do you mean?

tons of 16 year olds
in general chat sometimes

It's not on x86 so no
Since when does that stop peeps for running doom an anything
Well, running Doom on apple silicon is already a major disrespect to the game
I wouldn't
reminds me of doom running on a ti-83 lol
😁
Local one or they operate internationally?
local
I guess it's like LINE in Japan then, communications or something like that
not just
they do basically anything web services
search engines, chat, marketplaces
even a lot of publishing
I guess they have something going for them then
Kill your battery faster now
Didn't we have this posted like minutes ago
Sure did
😄👋
but it was a different link so it doesn't count
i posted the image
but ye doesn't seem to actually work
just like viper mini se at release
wdym
they just do rolling updates
so people will get it randomly over the next week
yea
Bill Gates knocks on your door and freestyle raps you right to detention with his sick flows.
Well no, cause this is the surf the seas version
Is le cracked
It's enterprise anyways so it shouldn't even be illegal lol
so how exactly does it disprove the
as a consumer is very much in the grey area
part then?
Could be also grey area cause it's not meant for consumers to use
I am still perfectly fine with normal 10 until '25
You seem perplexed, what bothers you
Change isn't always positive
I have a good reason I don't like 11
I don't like UI, at all
Or the extra hardware tax
Or extra spyware they keep implementing
More bloat, etc
I virtually never had a good PC up until my late teens, do you have any clue how much PTSD after all these years I still get after opening task manager?
XP was like 200mb of RAM, 7 used up to a gig
Now 10 is like 6-8 gigs of RAM just idle
I hate bloat
sucks to be you i guess
windows 11 ui is much better than 10
also, that
K, keep coping
11 is just a shite attempt at copying mac and I have no interest in it
11 doesnt use more ram and allocated ram != ram used that the OS blocks and doesnt give you if needed
1gb for every windows version! I knew it
that cortana bloatware really taking up SO much of kernel resources 🙄
What past, 10 is still supported
I tried 11 already a few times, don't like it, sorry
12 is going to be even worse it seems
Pretty sure I'm younger than you
Or about the same age
I like old fashioned tech, new tech doesn't stick with me much
Also 11 offers virtually nothing in terms of improvements for me, why would I even want to use it lol

probably because microsoft decided to axe security updates for 10 in a couple years
Gotta be honest, not really bothered
they should rename to closedai already
security updates are more important than you think
what are they gonna show? new api endpoints?
Oh I am not underestimating security updates at all
At the same time I don't care lol
GPT-4 Turbo might be here with 128k context length
wannacry made me care about security updates once and for all
I mean, yes?
which part of eternalblue requires you to click a link?
honestly theres been a lotta vulns dropping that cant easily be fixed by security updates outside of straight up microcode pushes to the processor
I run my own firewall anyways, I just don't like 11
just unplug the router before you click the links and you don't need a firewall
just never plug it in, no attackers - no problem
nothing its 0-click
yes thanks captain
better do before he recommends kaspersky as the god send defender against all again
It still is the best antivirus that isn't endpoint, whatever you try to claim
common sense will get you very far in protecting against malware but its not an invulnerable defense, especially if you dont update often or stay on unsupported operating systems
you know how basically all antiviruses are the same nowadays
Fym, hun, I am aware, thanks darling
im personally partial to malwarebytes but i cant be bothered to get the premium version i just manual scan with it sometimes
Why are you trying to gang up against my dislike of 11 anyways, I'll just stick to 10 LTSC once 10 expires
After that I might just use Linux or whatever
oh you can prefer 10 over 11 all day, but if you say things like it eats more ram that just is false information
i mean 10 LTSC is better than plain 10 if you want more security updates for it
think itll probably last through 11's life unless they decide to make 11 LTSC
The bar is higher on the task manager therefore it's already worse in my eyes
might as well use arch linux or gentoo then
with nothing but a window manager and barely anything installed
tails
i mean i use arch on one of my gaming laptop's partitions but i run full on gnome and a decent amount of things installed so its far from lightweight
You’ll see that macOS “uses” almost all of the memory while just in safari for example. Doesn’t mean it’s running out of memory
so install a script that makes task manager show only the ram your tools use so it's less but just shows false information
would make it better then by that logic
memory pressure is the more important statistic iirc
Yes
more ram used means arguably much better memory management
Thing is, I really dislike how user unfriendly linux is, it's so damn annoying to work with
Free ram is wasted ram
Terminal everything
I could do a bigbrain move and just move back to 7, the best OS
yeah and a good memory managed OS will move its own ram-consuming processes out of the way if an application the user opened calls upon more ram
Lots of stuff wont install on 7
I don't really use much of anything
and then what? turn your pc into hacker bait?
Lol performance will take a hit
Or Linux + looking glass for games and programs that don't run on linux
not exactly ram-consuming processes, just a matter of "i'll let this stay in ram because it might just get reused later"
you're going to need to connect 7 to the internet to get the VM online anyways so youre screwed anyways
I'm just kidding with that one, "big brain move"
ah fair
I'll just stick to 10 LTSC for however long it takes Linux not to suck or Windows stops being annoying
I am thinking of going back when I get am5
The igpu will be more than enough for desktop use in linux
at least you know 10 LTSC exists instead of using normal 10 after it loses support
I've known about it for a while tbf
What we need is vfio GPU support
Then you can single GPU it
What's wrong with a framework
Maybe Apple can one of these days release PCs with proper discrete GPUs and then I can be a mac gamer
But hey, that will never happen
None of the 3 big GPUs work on arm to start with
apple only pretends to care about gaming on mac
And Apple I’m pretty sure wants full control of the hardware & software
You will annoy the apple shills here with that statement
Apple really cares about gaming, believe
I love apple products lmao but i'll shit on apple any chance i get cause theyre a dogshit company despite making amazing hardware and software
Yay, someone who shares the sentiment
eh, they've got a solid foundation for gaming
Apple could actually make cxl MP work
the problem is nobody wants to write for metal
yeah and apple doesnt really do much to try to draw in the gaming crowd
I heard mac programming jobs actually pay a lot nowadays
like they actively killed opengl for some reason
nah, plenty write for metal, but its all mobile garbage 🤣
well there they just don't have a choice lmao
name a good one besides bg3
Plus all the big mmos are there too
and im pretty sure bg3 isnt even native, its adapted
But muh resident evil 8
yeah but a lot of games just dont care about making mac compatible versions
yes theres a decent chunk that work but a mac isnt really a gaming machine because of that
The money isn't there tbf
I doubt mac users really game in general, they prolly have a windows for that
was just about to say that lol
my mac is basically just a working laptop
i mean i do have a couple games on there but its mostly just emulation
valve was willing to basically do wine on mac but apple doesnt want to give up control so it's not fair saying valve is the one not doing it
I fail to see much use in using a mac anyways even in working scenarios, why would I downgrade from my windows rig
and macs are expensive but that doesnt mean owners all have the money for a 4090 pc for gaming in addition
i prefer the universal menu in the top left for productivity apps
if you can convince your users to pass the dark pattern messages that apple puts in the way
It might probably happen eventually, when intel mac spare parts run out and they become vintage lol
i barely use the app store most of the software i use is installed via .dmg/.pkg or setapp
you
either that or through brew
gotta remember most users are not you
i always seem to forget brew exists lmao
even though i have it installed and working through my spotlight replacement
it's all about making it work for the dumbest acceptable user
not for people who know cmd commands on comand
i install all of my apps on mac via MDM, and id be shocked if that wasnt more common than via package lmao
even then if youre scared shitless of the command line you can just use it through a raycast plugin
(raycast is the spotlight replacer i use)
its about people even knowing that exists lol
honestly though i find i just open the command line to use brew anyways
ah fair
yeah i dont think the average user is gonna figure out how to install brew
let alone something like a tiling window manager (which ive set up on my mac, specifically yabai)
apparently neofetch even detects yabai is running and lists it as my WM
are people even actually scared by the warning popups that macos shows when installing any app via dmg
im honestly not sure
usually though i get more suspicious if an app asks me to right click open it cause that means its unsigned
wait what button
i dont remember having to enable a setting to install dmg apps
ah
most apps i install from dmg arent unsigned
usually im more wary of an app if it is unsigned
iirc yabai came unsigned but i realized i was setting it up wrong and i actually had to enable it through brew services
ah i see i dont use much FOSS stuff on my mac aside from like yabai and libreoffice and a handful of brew packages
my linux install has more FOSS apps installed but yeah
actually i forgor i have krita and gimp on my mac too just in case i need them for some reason but usually i use the art program i actually paid for
oh hey a fellow affinity user
honestly affinity is like an absolute photoshop killer im surprised how little i see it around the place
i like how affinity adds actual features and shit a lot of the time
meanwhile photoshops just cramming as much AI as they can into the program
like i cant tell you how useful fill and pattern layers are and im shocked photoshop doesnt have them
and thats just like one of the more basic features affinity has that have been around for ages
Affinity is alright, not necessarily a Photoshop killer
i mean it basically killed photoshop for me
Still has the need for a lot of qol
i get its not gonna replace photoshop as the industry standard
i mean most of the recent updates for affinity have been QoL improvements
yeah thats why i switched to affinity
but also i find all the affinity exclusive features that arent in photoshop are invaluable to my workflow
funnily i got certified in photoshop in high school and the certification basically beat into my head how important nondestructive actions are when editing in photoshop/etc
and well affinity has infinitely more nondestructive options than photoshop
so the switch was a nobrainer
im honestly not sure if the channel mixer adjustment layer is in photoshop but imo its the most powerful adjustment layer in affinity
have they added something similar to photoshop yet with non destructive raw editing using smart objects ?
i havent managed to get nondestructive RAW to work in affinity but theoretically it should just be a straight up feature in the develop persona according to their marketing
There is a channel mixer adjustment
You can also use camera raw filter on smart objects
Specifically adjustment layer
ah nice that channel mixer is in photoshop, but its still a really powerful adjustment layer lol
ya last time i tried affinity the moment i think you went to develop the raw and load it in it was pretty much baked and you had to go all the way back to make adjustments unlike in photoshop where i could just reopen acr and make minor changes without having to start all over
honestly i think they should add hsv versions of the hue, saturation, color, and luminosity blend modes into affinity like krita has
that would basically make it the perfect art program imo but its not like absolutely needed i have techniques to pull stuff like that off regardless and with better quality / more options using channel mixer shenanigans
Camera raw is absurdly powerful when you add it to a smart object
Not to mention the flexibility of nesting objects with smart objects, idk if there even is a limit to how much you can nest within
Since it's a psb file format for smart objects I can imagine you'd probably be only limited by the maximum file size of psb
nondestructive raw is done by setting the output to a RAW layer from the develop persona
apparently it works now for me but it used to be greyed out in the past idk why
i think the last time i tried it was around 2020 or something
yeah that probably wasnt added at that point in time
and i think the UI at the time was quite different from what im use to in photoshop
oh also @boreal kiln do you use a glass mousepad at all? or by glass in your bio do you mean glass skates
cause im curious how glass mousepads are
iv been using photoshop for like 20+ years now
i just got a glass mouse pad today
its been interesting to use it
like tracking is awesome
but the micro adjusting and stopping is the bit i need to work on a little atm
affinity's ui is distinctly different but the menubar options are near identical to where you'd find them in photoshop
you just gotta get used to the rest which takes a bit but i find once you get used to it its a far more powerful ui
i know in the past though the various snappable ui bits were under view and not window like they were in photoshop, you might have used a version of affinity where this was the case
they are under window now though
what the performance like these days with it ?
im going to admit ive had some performance issues from time to time with affinity, probably cause theres often tons of stuff open other than affinity on my computer
and sometimes ive just worked with absurdly massive canvases which can cripple it when you have buttloads of layers
windows or mac?
ive only really had performance issues on canvases multiple tens of thousands in horizontal/vertical resolution with thousands of layers
youre likely not gonna run into problems unless you really push it to its limits
also usually those performance issues happen when i work on said massive projects for long periods of time, as long as you save and reopen to clear the undo history it shouldnt overload
most times ill use my desktop for editing over the air
but yeah you should be mostly fine
ive never had photoshop handle my gigapixel images whatsoever
i mean i have a project in affinity thats like 34k*12k pixels with like roughly 2000ish or more layers
thats the only project i have that causes affinity to crumble after editing extensively
yeah but also thats like 2000 layers of that
maybe theyve improved in the past 2 years?
also affinity can open that insanely massive project just fine
yea affinity was ez pz
its just affinity crumbles any time i duplicate roughly 1500 layers on accident on that massive canvas
literally 1 layer, i just wanted to make some basic edits
which is expected cause it has to load 1500 layers into ram/swap
its only a 700MB jpeg, shouldnt be that bad
i dont think iv seen a jpg that big before
this insano project file is roughly 2.1gb

Purchases made from store links may give me some money....
but yeah to answer your question affinity shouldnt have that big of performance issues unless youre slinging stupidly unreasonable workloads at it
More like why are you not optimizing your layers at that point
i honestly dont know
digital drawings ?
I rarely go over 100 layers, and I almost never go over 200
took a video at 200mm 1080p, scanned over the scene, separated out every frame into a jpeg, upres'd the jpeg with topaz, then fed the result into ICE
Nesting anything that can be condensed into a smart object when I can
ice is so good for stitching
i think affinity doesnt exactly have smart objects
maybe i should try placing an .afphoto file inside of an affinity document
yea its shocking how theres no actual alternative
see if that works
I was always of the impression VMware was a bit of an overrated company
Looks like they have alright security engineers working for them
its deff the only one iv found that had very consistent results tho photoshop is getting better at stitching now
yea this image (i took) is tiny compared to the serious stuff
wdym stitching
i aint got a 2 gigapixel camera lol
oh
for making panoramas or super highres images
iirc affinity actually has a great panorama stitching feature but i doubt itll beat out a specialized stitching program
you can actually refine the stitch after the automatic stitching to make it look better
affinity cant handle even stitching just a few 108mp images from my smartphone, much less thousands of pictures that you need to do supertelephoto stitching
oh huh does it just collapse
yup
yeah then i dont think it'd work for gigapixel stuff
most stitching programs including photoshop do
many can handle 400mp source files and stitching 3-4 of them together, but if you are starting with thousands of images, it just dies
its actually awful how in 10 years nothing has come to replace it
this was about 12 photos for the stitch in photoshop low res sample
and those that have tried dont even work any more
looking at you autopano giga

I really need to make a pano with my new camera and lens
100mm 1.8 turns into 24mm f0.43, 573MP, and I only need to take 20ish images
what camera and lens did you get ?
sigma 50-100 1.8 and a7iv
this was taken on a sony a5000 and a canon 70-300 kit lens adapted
ive had the a74 for over a year now and I already have GAS again
the A7CR looks so sweet!
what insanity
for those not in the know, the camera on the right is 33 megapixels max, the left can take 61 and even 240 megapixel images (that needs a tripod however)
#🔌│tech message this was taken with a canon eos r + canon rf 50 1.2
nice!
yea my lens choices are alot more janky but hey they work
I'm not gonna go for rf until Canon opens the mount, and even then I'll wait for an e to rf adaptet
The e to z adapter is awesome!
The fun part? Pretty sure when M1 first came out, Apple was ahead in prolly every category
Now they only finish in top half lol
Competition really stiffened up, Apple can't even be the best anymore
for me it didnt matter that much since i already had a few EF lens and now a few RF ones
and i think canon is opening it up
Discord is dying holy smokes
Hello, I came here just to ask a few questions that weren't answered in the FAQ cause I plan on getting one to mod in the future
Are there ever gonna be different switch types in the future?
Would how much can you fit in the stock case? I like making my keyboards THOCC, Hipyo style so I wanna know if I can tape, foam/kilmat it
We don't know much about Wooting's future plans
The "12-17" f4 is even more insane for the price
All we know is that currently they are working to fix their logistics and support issues, and after that launch a new keyboard
@late shell our resident keyboard nerd is on holiday
Sick, I don't like full but also don't like 60%, I thought of just using the switches to make a 75% but that's a hassle
I don't see those channels, sorry
Wooting will launch a 75% soon enough
They just aren't there for me
Or TKL, something like that
discord is just shitting itself atm
TKL, 75%, both are what I prefer so whichever it is I'll be happy with it
Just wait for idk, a year?
Wooting will launch a founder's crowdfunder soon enough, to unveil the design and features
Prolly will ship by the end of next year
I can, I currently use an unmodded older G915 cause broke but once I get a job I should have the money by then
I thought I would like the low-profile switches but I don't actually
And my last one that I built myself with black oils broke
Yeah that's an acquired taste
So I just wanted to go all out with my next one cause I plan on redoing my whole setup when I move out
If you want something for the interim, keychron has cheap TKLs and stuff
Good quality for the price
I originally planned on that actually
I would if you could buy the switches on their own
But I haven't been able to find them
This thing is nuts https://wccftech.com/mediatek-dimensity-9300-goes-official/
The MediaTek Dimensity 9300 is finally here, and it is ready to take the fight to the likes of Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and Exynos 2400. The new chipset brings a number of changes, including four big Cortex-X4 cores and four Cortex-A74 cores. MediaTek also promises Stable Defusion generation of under one second--in addition to that, the new chipset al...
This cannot be a smartphone chip
Snapdragon has 1 X4 core, Mediatek for some reason stuffed in 4
Is this one of those like the latest Apple ones where they're getting to the point where they can no longer get to a small enough size to fit components into it?
This is MediaTek trying to outcompete Qualcomm
Cause I heard with the latest Apple M chips the capacitors or something are so tiny that they can't go any further with the tech we have
nah thats not whats happening
Ah, phones aren't my field, sorry
they latest process node just isnt as great so the gain is less but it's not just that
I do computers as a hobby so I hear about what's going on sometimes
But per notebookcheck 3nm is amazing
but we still get more transistors and smaller hardware chunks for years to come
It's amazing how small it's all becoming
I find it fascinating how quickly things progressed once we made computers
I cannot fathom how MediaTek is planning to have more than 8 hours or so of battery life with 4 giant performance cores, and 4 extra smaller performance cores
This doesn't make any sense
New battery tech or maybe a way to make the CPU more efficient?
simple, they dont use 4 of the same cores they have 3 lower clocked ones
Idk, there could be something
not like they all run at total powerdraw all the time
and they also have 4 efficiency cores
I was just guessing
Makes sense for it to be 4 weaker cores but how does that work but now I wanna know how they did it and how it works
same way everyone has always done it
lower clocks
less cache, smaller compute units that run slower but use less power
smaller cores that are made for lower clocks so more efficent but cant clock as high even if you give them more power
Snapdragon 8 gen 2 boosts up to 3.36 GHz with 1 core which is about what they are aiming at
and so does the 9300
This thing has 4
Ah, I obviously don't know the technicals of this
I just build and tinker
But I find it all neat
Per early reports yes only 1 X4 will run at "normal speeds" other 3 will be like, 2GHz or thereabouts
That still doesn't excuse the fact these are 4 giant cores on an SoC where competitors only use 1
difference isnt that big between big and small cores
and the difference is zero if the core is idle
3 big at 2.8 vs 3 small at 3.2
its not like small cores are more efficent even at much higher clocks
you can also just donwclock the big ones
Considering X cores are far bigger than A720s? That's a big difference
its just not
A lot more cache on the X4s over small cores
so? die size doesnt linearly correlate to power consumption at a given clock
a720 uses about 20%? less power at the same clock
and it does not like high clocks
id actually be shocked if the power usage was measurably different between an a720 at 3.2 vs a x4 at 2.8
look at the graph
as the power increases, at the high end of the graph, the a720 becomes more power for the same performance as the x4
it uses more power at higher performance, so just limit it to that part

uhm
But they won't, it's rated for 3.4 GHz clock max
2.85 base?
That's pretty damn insane considering 3.4GHz is peak boost clock as far as I can find
paste the whole picture again, i thought he had unmuted me but it seems not
you posted the link yourself vex so you should know what the cores are put at lol
god discord is still taking ages to uplod some messages, it just doesnt want to do the whole picture
Alright, I did some cross-comparisons and I will concede the point
Wait, no I won't
A720 is rated for 3.0 GHz max
At which point per Arm's graph it would be more powerful than a low boost X4
X4's on Mediatek are already boosted to close to 3GHz with 3.4GHz being max
more power for the same performance isnt a good thing
The A720 here is virtually just substituting A500 series cores at very low boost clocks, 2GHz
you also barely ever have all cores are full power so it's not like you can just compare it 1 to 1
right is good on the graph, up is bad
X4's are still at pretty damn high boosts, 2.85GHz on 3 and 1 at 3.25
Battery life is not going to like that
don't think he read the legend of the graph
I did you muppet
i mean it would have been nicer if the legend included numbers and units but so be it
At max power of A720 outdoes X4 in power efficiency and performance
Mediatek are going nowhere near 3GHz clocks with A720, they are for whatever reason clocking them at 2GHz only and completely omitting A520 cores
the a720 on sd8g3 is 3.2ghz
and the a720 uses more power at 3.0ghz than a x4 at the same performance
So by downclocking some X4 cores and leaving 1 X4 core towards max clock, if anything Mediatek is shooting themselves in the foot by not using 2.8GHz or so A720s, you get less performance and less power efficiency
Again it makes no sense for Mediatek to use 4 X4 cores on a smartphone chip, Android isn't necessarily known for great battery life anyways
uhhh no, at max a720 on that graph it uses MORE power than an x4 for the same performance
That's why I said around 2.8GHz
So that you are actually more power efficient than X4 at this spot
Why use X4 at all
that is SiR not clocks on the x axis
What's SiR
spec int rate
Isn't that representative of overall performance?
facts: sd8 gen 3 gets good battery life, and the cores from the mediatek are more efficient at the rated lower clocks than the ones on the 8 gen 3 at their rated clocks
Solid state batteries
Replacing the normally liquid electrolyte with a solid one
That'd be cool, call me when they are implemented in consumer electronics
theres also the graphene cathode batteries, got one of those in my backpack right now
most are currently graphite, but graphene is more efficient and lighter
I just wish they would have some useable sodium or reflow batteries for home storage by now
would like to just not have big Li ones in the basement
reflow im not so sure about
yeah not most excited but redflow or something from australia has stuff working it seems just still not at scale production
like ye realistically I'm not worried about it blowing up but I'd rather not think about the Li fire situations if something else goes bad and starts it
im happy to have lithium batteries as long as they are iron rather than normal heavier metals
sodium iron should be super cheap too
maybe not first gen due to scales, but even if it needs more space for home storage that's totally fine still
might not be a choice for cars for a while but it's not like we need the super solution for every area at once
I mean for cars if it gets twice as heavy it's not great for some time
if the battery price is 1/4, for half the storage at the same weight, thats solid for cheap cars
my car's price (and the new model of the same car) is half battery
dropping from 40k to 25k for 100 miles of range is not bad at all
add on modern aero and you can get back to 200 miles of range sometimes
an aptera would go from 25k to closer to 15k with still around 150 mile range
and sodium iron is probably gonna be closer to 70% rather than 50% at the same weight
oooh and thats vs NCM not lifepo4 that aptera uses
so probably closer to 200 miles at the same weight rather than 250, but solid decrease in price

We have heard the global shutter rumor many times before but is it actually happening this time?
A new Sony A9 III rumour suggests that the upcoming full-frame camera will debut a new sensor with global shutter when it launches. Global shutter would completely eliminate rolling shutter, but may come at the expense of burst speeds or video frame rates. The Sony A9 III is expected to launch on November 7 at a special event Sony has planned in...
would expect this more on a7 s iv
nah, a7s is sensitivity not speed
its video tho
no
a7s is sensitivity first video second
it just so happens that insane iso performance is good for video
