And it’s not even on weight

initial problems sorted out

lofty pivot

Went from 33 to 38 grams so it’s basically just a gwolves htx now

They say December ordering for small but they’re literally scrambling to redesign it now because people are roasting them on lying about weights

crisp granite

wait...what?

wow Finalmouse dropped the ball

AGAIN

lofty pivot
#

Their justification is the funniest part

#

They low key changed specs on site from 33 to 35 grams then said 35 grams is weight without skates and such

The dongle is polled at higher hz than 1khz even on 1khz setting, so they can sneak extra click packets even if no sensor data is available. Clicks can be interrupted separately from sensor data, so clicks always have data availabe to send.

gusty kiln

hope one of these brands include a KVM

crisp granite
#

that seems dangerous

#

can't wait to bash into one making a right hand turn, I guess

crisp granite
#

what in the fuck

#

don't get me wrong
I try to be safe around cyclists, and the issues here is that no cyclist around seems to respect the traffic signals nor signal their own in turn

#

but if you signalled, I would respect that

thick elk
#

Interesting electric scooter design. I don't think it will catch on in the Netherlands though, as it would probably require you to use a helmet, where an electric folding bicycle would not, even if the latter is a bit more clunkey.

#

The reason is mopeds allowed to go a maximum of 25km/h were a big nuance in cities most of them tuned to go much faster. So they added a licence plate and helmet requirement. Electric propulsion would not change the classification as far as I understand.

#

Regular mopeds limited to 45km/h requires a form of driver's licence and are not allowed to be used on bycicle lanes. hence tuning the low speed option was popular.

#

In the netherlands as long as your using your own power there is no need for a speedometer, so there is also no speed limit. Going down a local hil I once hit 50 km/h which does feel a bit scary on a normal bicycle.

hasty thunder
#

wait... how can you get a speeding ticket for that shit? o.o

#

well, explains it i guess

#

hoooold on, does hawaii used kmh or mph?

#

well, i'm fine with mph

#

i mean you guys signed a treaty to convert to metric

thick elk
#

Getting a speeding ticket on a skateboard would not be possible in the Netherlands.
Getting fined for reckless behavior would be.

To me imperial is just a pain, having to convert every number. That's about it.
mph I can handle but don't start expressing peoples hights in 2 different units at the same time.

hasty thunder
#

HA! Found it

thick elk
#

Or as a good troll use decimal pointers on yards somewhat close to metric with a small offset.

hasty thunder
#

35 mph should be around 50 km/h iirc

thick elk
#

Oh you don't need unit conversions for that.
A road I drove on a lot with covid (normally take the train) has those as well, maximum speed 80 Km/h cat, lets bounce between 50 and 70.
Then a bit further down a truck and some people are desparate to overtake it even though the truck is not the problem.

hasty thunder
#

i'd simply hit the throttle hard and overtake it

thick elk
#

Still mph is pretty easy to get used to on the road, just make sure the speedometer is set to the right unit and look at the number on the sign.
other imperial things are more annoying as you actually should convert them.

hasty thunder
#

3 ft ≈ 1 meter

thick elk
#

The opportunities to overtake are very limited on that road.

Feet inches to me is the worst, also the fact that you cannot easily convert volume to weight of a lot of substances that are roughly equal density to water which is a lot of things.

old marlin
#

obviously we should use a measurement based on an somewhat arbitrary salty slush and body temperature

old marlin
#

also "fluid ounces" being a thing

hasty thunder

well, volume to weight is actually used in a lot of industries, especially the metal industry

yes

i hate these recipes with "1 tea spoon"

hasty thunder

Man, some have tea spoons bigger than normal spoons

old marlin

a tea spoon is standardized

I love not needing a weird chart and measuing cups to cook

hasty thunder

ok, how much would be a tea spoon of sugar i.e.? Is it like the edge of the spoon or is it like a tea spoon of sugar i'd add to my coffee?

old marlin
#

edge

#

always edge

#

yea but then you have to look up density for whatever you wanna measure with a teaspoon

since sugar for example is not the same density as salt

Windows 11 is coming to its end, somehow, already, and it's not as popular as Microsoft would like

#

I hope that people have actually lost faith in Microsoft and will refuse to just blindly "upgrade" to a newer OS which honestly just functions inferiorly

thick elk
#

Do note that the steam survey is always a subset and sometimes chinese users get sampled more than others.
So an increase of windows 10 is most likely just a change in the users sampled.

cursive summit
#

Not really talking about the increase

#

More just the general popularity of 11

#

You'd hope that 11 would at this point be more popular than 10, as Microsoft at least

#

Whereas it seems it's far less popular, and I wonder what would be the cause

thick elk
#

windows 8 never got more market share than windows 7 for starters.

rough osprey
#

probably cuz most people dont have pcs that can use w11

#

at least officially

thick elk
#

also hardware requirements are a real factor, a lot of older cpu's are still in use.

cursive summit
#

But I doubt that's the case though

#

All Zen+ and Intel 8000 series coffee lake CPUs, or older, support 11

#

I have my doubts that people are still stuck on Kaby Lake lol

thick elk
#

You know there are still a lot of skylake and kaby lake systems out there.

#

There are still a lot of systems where tpm was not enabled

#

Windows 11 should be available to those people

thick elk
#

But also remember tpm on self build pc's was not enabled by default for a long time.
If those people don't enter the bios they will not get the update.

cursive summit
#

Windows did have a guide how to enable tpm to get 11

#

Again I am more inclined to think people just don't want to upgrade

I will need a good source on them actually doing anything

ashen spindle
shadow minnow

Hmm very possible tbf it’s been some time since I last looked at proper benchmarks

#

I guess I am thinking of what E cores should be instead of what they are lol

ashen spindle
#

no I think you are mixing things up

#

zen c cores are the same ISA just made to never clock as high thats how they can take less area but have the same performance on lower power

#

so no lack of AVX512 or bad scaling when going to lower power

#

thats why the lanes are basically the same, because they are the same core one just is for more power the other for less power optimized

#

that is why they dont need a hardware scheduler because it doesnt make it worse if it runs on the small cores

What Tak said. It's a prebuilt. and I bet HP used -all- the proprietary parts they could get away with.

You could potentially double the RAM for a small boost in games that need more RAM.
You could -maybe- switch out the graphics card, but the power supply probably can't handle it, nor will the power supply have the correct cables (and the motherboard might in some cases outright block other graphics cards)

nimble canopy
#

the real upgrade for memory would be not being stuck at 2133 MT

Wouldn't do much. You'd get 2400mhz at best.

Those BIOS'es typically are locked to JEDEC.

And same with all the XOC people i know/talk with

astral haven
#

shitty vrm = poor load balancing

#

gotta remember the 3090ti drew waaaaay more power than the 4090

#

but because the 4090 was missing load balancing, the connector would shove all the power through just part of the connector

vagrant pagoda
#

Why I'm a big fan of single rail

astral haven
#

single rail actually makes this problem worse

#

unless you have per pin current monitoring

#

ax1600i best

vagrant pagoda
#

If the GPU has 1 12v input plane for the connectors the pins will balance

#

If one has a bad connection it will heat up and pass less current

astral haven
#

except

  1. heating up will cause it to pass more current
  2. more current has to pass through the other pins of the connector
  3. there can be a substantial difference even with perfect connection
vagrant pagoda
#

Wont the connector heat faster than the pin causing it to get worse connection?

astral haven
#

nah the pin heats faster, the connector just melts faster

vagrant pagoda
#

The pin is solid though

#

Who knows though the only time I've ever seen a minifit burn is from water or poor quality cables

astral haven
#

same story for 12 pin tho

vagrant pagoda
astral haven
#

you can draw 1kw through dual 8 pin actually quite easily as long as the manufacturer doesnt limit you

vagrant pagoda
#

Modifying the BIOS you can get close to 500 watts

astral haven
#

^ and thats on ambient

vagrant pagoda
#

I ran about 425 to 450 while gaming

#

The connector only limits the stock wattage

vagrant pagoda
#

And it only limits it if you want to put the PCI Express logo on the box

#

Which is why things like the epower and elmor power board will draw triple+ the pcie sig rated out of a 8 pin

azure kelp
#

ohhh ok thank

vagrant pagoda
#

A single 8 pin is 150w by the pcie sig, or 325w by molex

astral haven
#

and thats with zero airflow

vagrant pagoda
#

Back to the video a quad 8pin can draw easily 1500w without major issues wiring wise

astral haven
#

yup

#

but so could a 3x12p

#

and the 3x12p is less board and cabling area

vagrant pagoda
#

Yeah by a minifit is easier to install correctly lol

astral haven

wasnt a problem on the 12 pin

only the 16 pins have issues

vagrant pagoda

ashen spindle

which sucks for consumer market but not as much for where that gets put

astral haven
#

nah not just that

#

cublas gets about double the perf/flop vs aocl

#

and in ai, cublas can get even further ahead

#

then add in actual cuda, and the gap gets wiiiiide

ashen spindle

which is what people get around to port things and make it run regardless and there will be cases where the raw hardware of mi300 will just beat whatever cuda tries to do

astral haven

thick elk

I wonder the use of Opus as a bluetooth codec is going to be more widespread, has a good reputation for sounding transparent at lower bitrates and is low latency.

astral haven
ashen spindle

but it is being done

you know its really bad when the libertarian ai crowd is buying nvidia to build servers

thick elk
#

Also they should have made opus the standard instead of what they did with le audio.
It was an open codec already with a proven record lc3 just seems somewhat stupid.

astral haven
#

believe its more about power used

#

lc3 is designed around hardware decode units being small and low power afaik

thick elk
#

Opus can be used on low complexity / low power, they just tested it using an older version of opus when a more recent version improved things. Also their testing focused on very low bitrate voice instead of higher bitrate music.

astral haven
#

low power on a cpu

#

but how easy is it to build a chip for it?

#

afaik it hasnt been done yet

ashen spindle
#

well the best indicator will be what companies will amd show when presenting the mi300, that used to use nvidia or now use both

thick elk
#

They choce it over opus for audio quality not resource usage.
however the tests themselves were a bit suspect.

cursive summit
#

Damn, what a partnership

#

Why Qualcomm though

#

Samsung makes sense since Exynos uses AMD's graphics IP

#

Qualcomm.. doesn't really have anything to do with AMD afaik

#

Unless this is a strategic partnership to enable Qualcomm to use AMD's FidelityFX technologies on the upcoming Snapdragon Elite processors and on smartphones

#

Since AMD's tech isn't really a thing on smartphones yet

#

Not upscaling

fair gull
#

dlss is also more code than tech

cursive summit
#

Technically all toggleable tech is more code than hardware

fair gull
#

well it can run without its just an ai network right

#

but yes we tend to build hardware to accelerate graphics tasks specifically

cursive summit
#

AMD I suspect will also tweak FSR to use AI

fair gull
#

optimizing the math behind it

cursive summit
#

It doesn't

fair gull
#

im unsure how gated it is software wise

cursive summit
#

It's hardware gated

#

We had this talk before, DLSS uses Turing's hardware at minimum, DLSS3 requires Ada hardware

fair gull
#

well yes but in theory the ai models should be able to run on anything

#

just not as fast

cursive summit
#

FSR I hope will get some kind of AI mode since AMD finally caught up to CUDA and has AI cores

#

Big expectations for XDNA

fair gull
#

id hope they keep software only and just have ai acceleration as an option

cursive summit
#

Thing is FSR2 is far different from ReShade just cause you know, it actually requires developer implementation lol

#

FSR1 was a cool portable upscaler, not great, not horrible

#

FSR2 isn't portable so more software doesn't use it pepecry

ashen spindle
cursive summit
#

XDNA is pretty alright though

ashen spindle
#

And dlss uses the tensor cores so in its current form it would not run on any gpu, probably could be rewritten for lower performance though

#

Yes Xilinx did well before it got bought, that doesn’t mean suddenly rocm is equal to cuda

cursive summit
#

I'd argue that ROCm is potentially better than CUDA havo

#

Just needs support, which it doesn't

ashen spindle
#

„This could be better than the other thing, if only they made it better“

cursive summit
#

Well, hard to make it better when better comes in many ways

#

AMD has done well so far to make ROCm actually a valid competitor

#

But software support costs a fuck ton more and AMD is rather not big

ashen spindle
#

It is not better currently so what could be doesn’t matter for that

#

It’s not even about the academic learning path, that’s just a nice bonus

This does make it faster for productivity in some cases, but charging so much for real simple upgrades is ass
