So, I guess there's a little stopgap between HBM3 and HBM4

#

Guessing Samsung will still make HBM3 and 2E for Nvidia?

AMD Fluid Motion Frames gets fourth update Just a reminder, the current implementation of AMD Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF) isn’t yet integrated into an official driver branch. AMD is actively refining this technology to ensure it delivers an improved gaming experience upon its official release. However, feedback thus far has been positive, and the...

#
  • We have added initial support for HDR to expand the AFMF gaming experience.
#

That is pretty good, one of the bigger complaints about the tech

#
  • Improvements to frame pacing have been made, resulting in an overall smoother gameplay experience and improved image quality.
#

Needs testing but could be exciting

By making a minor concession EU governments hope to find a majority next week to approve the controversial β€žchat controlβ€œ bill. According to the proposed child sexual abuse regulation (CSAR), providers of messengers, e-mail and chat services would be forced to automatically search all private messag

#

So what would happen to apps like Signal

crimson wigeon
#

But think of the children

reef patrol
cursive summit
#

I'm guessing EU would just ban distribution of Signal through Play store and such in EU

reef patrol
#

The real question is if they can demand backdoors, or jail suspected victims for not handing over codes (see UK)

cursive summit
#

Disgusting behavior tbf

frozen ingot

and people wonder why I don't like the EU

cursive summit
#

There isn't a better place than EU tbf

frozen ingot
#

yes but then they come up with god awful shit like this

#

and it ain't the first time

ashen spindle
#

its the same that every government comes up with every so often though

cursive summit
#

The hope is that this doesn't happen

ashen spindle
#

at least usually in the eu it doesnt go through and stuff like right to repair or GDPR is pushed instead

smoky frigate
#

dumb shit has gotten through before, but you can usually work around it

ashen spindle
#

yeah everything has some good and some bad ideas, as long as the good parts heavily outweigh the bad parts that's fine

devout raptor
cursive summit
#

Well, there's always the question

#

What are you hiding if you think it's a problem? havo

ashen spindle
#

no that is never the question

#

that assumes you live in a wolrd where you never end up disagreen with people in power, that people would never make something you said look like the wrong context etc.

smoky frigate
#

if I have nothing to hide, they have nothing to see πŸ˜›

ashen spindle
#

thats the better view

wheat plume
reef patrol
#

Lanaposting has (d)evolved into pure clickbait at this point πŸ˜›

wheat plume
#

hes talking about how hes switched to Windows desktops because Apple solder everything down and you cant upgrade the hardware

#

and hes like upgrading your GPU every 3 years for a few hundred dollars is better than upgrading your entire machine for like 3 thousand instead

ashen spindle
#

feel like that comparison doesnt quite work since for non gaming you either dont upgrade your gpu taht often or get the most expensive stick every year anyway

old marlin
#

And soldered ram is not something i can fault apple for at this point really

#

Storage sucks tho

ashen spindle
#

eh, they dont use speeds or sizes that would need soldered ram for any benefit

#

if the prices for ram upgrades would be fine, sure

old marlin
#

Well yea was disregarding that

ashen spindle
#

the CAMM thing from dell fixes things until that is a jedec spec soldered ram can be fine

#

but not for what apple uses

cursive summit
#

Eh that's a normal lana post though, for once it's actually something somewhat relevant

#

And not just... random youtubers and minecraft

reef patrol
cursive summit
#

Are you done with Apple if you were never into it? thonk

wheat plume
#

no

wheat plume
#

I love mechanical shit like this

shadow minnow
ashen spindle
#

no

shadow minnow
#

What no? Soldered ram does have lower latency

#

Though idk if the difference it makes matters or not. Still they also use quite high speed nowadays.
Soldered SSDs are ridiculous though

ashen spindle
#

its normal speeds that non soldered ram can get to

#

using it for vram doesn change that

shadow minnow
#

Latency is not the same as the frequency though

#

And soldered ram is less distance so slightly less latency

ashen spindle
#

yes all timings are the same as well

reef patrol
shadow minnow
#

By latency in this case I mean the ammount of time it takes for the signal to travel through the wire

reef patrol
#

And again - Timings vs speed is a formula. If you don't have both, you're not any faster than something else.

#

Doesn't matter if the latency is super low, if the overall speed of the module doesn't match. It'd still be (as) slow as higher latency RAM.

shadow minnow
#

No not exactly

#

If there is less time needed to reach ram, you may be able to fit into an earlier timing slot

#

But tbf the difference is probably very minimal

ashen spindle
#

no it literally doesnt change anything here

reef patrol
#

If your comparing apples to apples, there's a difference, but that isn't possible.

When comparing soldered RAM to unsoldered you have to account for differences.

astral haven

Let's goooo

wheat plume
#

2.2gb...sounds about right

astral haven
#

this is gonna take forever ofc since samsung is incompetent at installing updates

wheat plume
#

Pixel updates take forever too cause of Dynamic Partitions

warm night
#

ya

#

it takes sooo long

wheat plume
#

It has to copy EVERYTHING to the second partition

#

and its so so so slow

#

then install the update

astral haven
#

its slower when theres only one partition

wheat plume
#

X to doubt

astral haven
#

because it has to do all that while the phone is shut down

wheat plume
#

ooh

astral haven
#

i mean the time where you can keep using the phone doesnt count as update time imo

wheat plume
#

yeah, but on Pixel..if you use the phone while this happens, it pauses and you have to go back to the update screen and click resume and you lose progress

warm night
#

ya it just says like itll do it later while youre not using the phone

astral haven
#

that i was not aware of

wheat plume
#

so id argue that the phone being off for longer is better

warm night
#

if you manually start it and then start using the phone again itll just give up

wheat plume
#

yeh

warm night
#

you have to just not do anything for ages

#

so basically overnight

#

is the only real time to get updates

astral haven
#

that sucks, unfortunate

wheat plume
#

It once gave up when I was NOT USING THE PHONE .-. I had it left on the update screen and it decided for some reason I was using the phone

#

and idk why

warm night
#

it's not hugely sucky since you just go to bed and wake up to an updated phone but itd be nice if you could a) use the phone while it did it or b) it could just go quicker

astral haven
#

hit the start button now

astral haven
warm night
#

what you cant manually check for updatees?

astral haven
#

samsung, ios, windows
all of them you download the updates, then installing them is another button push

warm night
#

oh

#

right

#

yeah its unfortunate

wheat plume
warm night
#

yea i misunderstood the message

astral haven
#

its still thinking about the update tho

#

oh wow it let me dismiss all my notifications now!

#

interesting
swiping down the notifications also brings the status bar down?

halcyon moss
#

Pixel was update experience was a much fast experience than Samsung.

New update! Cool let's reboot. And done

astral haven
#

keep in mind occasional security updates and major os updates are different speeds

#

but yea 13 minutes is an incredibly long time

cursive summit
ashen spindle
#

whats with you and your conspiracy that any update is made to make older phones run worse

cursive summit
#

Because it is

ashen spindle
#

right...

cursive summit
#

When shit like this happens

#

Software updates providing virtually nothing useful (other than that one Android update with Bluetooh-LE, that was alright)

astral haven
#

"Apple acknowledged in December that it had intentionally slowed iPhones with degraded batteries through software updates to avoid sudden shutdown problems, but denied it had ever done anything to intentionally shorten the life of a product.

The company later apologised for its actions and reduced the cost of battery replacements. It also added battery health information to iOS and allowed users to turn off the slowing down of the iPhone’s processor."

cursive summit
#

And there being more than one scientific paper tying software updates to gradual device slowdown

#

Which is effectively just forced obsolescence at that point

#

I am more than negative towards software updates

steep creek
#

ironically my phone feels snappier on ios 17 compared to ios 16, lol

ashen spindle
#

yes it happend, it was from 2018 and people now look out for stuff like this

#

them doing it once and not getting away with it doesnt mean every update is making stuff slower now

cursive summit
#

Well considering my wonderful Nokia 7 became virtually unusable in around that time period, I have a very negative outlook

#

And that's not going to change considering android version updates are virtually useless

ashen spindle
#

do you even know it is because of updates

cursive summit
#

Well yes, of course

#

Considering my wonderful phone running Android 8 Oreo became slower than it should be with Android One

#

And then this weird OS update that I actually got while I was surfing the web, installed, and it became completely unresponsive permanently

#

Prompting me to get this chinese shite Poco

#

Which is actually getting slower with updates itself the bastard

#

Android that released at least before 2020 are too weak to deal with updates and suffer no device slowdown

#

Not too sure about Snapdragon 8s cause I turned off software updates on all my devices and am not ever updating them again to find out

astral haven
#

and ofc no proof is provided for any of this, and it couldnt possibly have anything to do with app updates or just using the phone for an extended period of time of course

gusty nexus
#

I've erased my message because there was my address on it ;-;
But watch out there's a big scam on amazon right now with graphics cards πŸ˜…

ashen spindle
#

how do you know its a scam

gusty nexus
#

Well I got scam

#

By the same people, their name are the same as before
Look at rx7900 xtx nitro+ on Amazon (a lot of 7900xtx, 7900xt and 7800xt are sold by them at a low price)

astral haven
#

did they give you a big brick or something?

gusty nexus
#

They remove my order and ask you to give them money outside the app
They have also found a way to have the official comments of the amazon page on their page because the official amazon page is gone on the app for this product

astral haven
#

they cancel your order?

gusty nexus
#

Yes and then ask people to pay in a weird way to get it havo

golden ibex
ashen spindle
#

no

gusty nexus

No, I've receive nothing because I have not link my email to my account but they send email, people on their pages says it

wheat plume
#

how do you have an amazon account without an email address?

gusty nexus
ashen spindle
#

yeah its just another amazong scammer trick, annoying they dont do anything about it, but as long as you always stay on amazong it will be fine

#

sadly they just dont care and just let people do whatever

gusty nexus
#

Look at the price of AMD graphics on amazon the nitro+ model in France you will see

ashen spindle
#

account will be banned at some point and then its just another new one made soon after

reef patrol
ashen spindle

not worth the effort

To each their own. I am 100% that vindictive πŸ˜„

gusty nexus
ashen spindle
#

don't bother, sadly they can just make a new account after

gusty nexus

I just hope that at the start of next week I will not lose money on my account ;-;
But I think not because I have accepted nothing, my order as only been removed πŸ˜…

ashen spindle

if all you did was order it via amaozn you are fine

if you dont enter data elsewhere they cant doa nything

gusty nexus
gusty nexus
ashen spindle

amazon has become a shitshow for years now but there isnt really another options still

gusty nexus
#

I've heard that the same type of thing hapened like two weeks ago on US Amazon, that's why I'm just telling πŸ˜…

ashen spindle
#

happens all the time with all sort of things on any amazon site

gusty nexus
#

Yeah but it's scary ;-;
How did they have the official comments on their pages ?

woven laurel
gusty nexus
#

On the official app while removing the official amazon sellers page ?

ashen spindle
#

because its still the same company nehind it

#

comments are also a mess, many fake and bought reviews

gusty nexus
#

Because one day ago this same page was one that amazon was selling and sending to people, not this weird fake enterprise

ashen spindle
#

could just be the same company did some legit sales to farm trust

gusty nexus
#

Idk

#

But yeah watch what you're buying even on trusted website because it's not even safe anymore..

astral haven
#

i mean

#

define trusted website

gusty nexus
astral haven
#

i trust ebay the website, but its just a listing platform

#

anyone can list whatever on ebay

#

and amazon is the same

gusty nexus
#

Yeah that's why it really suck ;-;

astral haven
#

🀷 just gotta be aware of it

final flame
#

same with literally every store that allows people to upload listings
ebay isn't the exception

gusty nexus
#

Yeah I know πŸ˜…

pale sigil

Hmmm I escaped twitter finally

#

Now on bluesky

gusty nexus

I was so happy havo
But I was pretty sure right from the start that it was weird..

latent kiln
#

i hate the gpu market

#

the prices are dumb and the vram amount is dumb

astral haven
#

dont worry about the vram amount, and just buy the cheapest gpu that performs well enough for you

#

like sure they are more expensive now, but they are also faster

#

you get much more performance even if you compare release year games

tough crypt
#

isnt funny how the more pc guides i watch the more confused i get lmao

astral haven
#

just think of it like lego

#

if it slips in nicely, you good, if not, check if theres a different spot where it fits better

tough crypt
#

True

#

The cpu and ram and ssd part are easy its just The case cables, psu cables and aio that confuse me

astral haven
#

the case cables are a bit annoying, but you just read the manual for those

#

psu cables is lego, if it fits easily, its the right spot

#

and the aio you also follow the instructions, tho be careful to not touch the paste

gusty nexus
#

Is it hard to update a motherboard bios without a CPU in it ? πŸ˜…

astral haven
#

Depends on the motherboard

#

Some it's easy, some it's impossible

gusty nexus
#

An Asus one for 7800x3d

astral haven
#

Check the manual

#

It depends on the specific motherboard

gusty nexus
gusty nexus
astral haven
#

Just look up the manual online

gusty nexus
#

I will look ^^

warm night
#

you either have a bios flashback button thing you can press to flash the bios without a cpu or

#

you are outta luck

#

as far as im aware those are the 2 possibilites

gusty nexus
ashen spindle
#

read the manual it is different on different boards

warm night
#

you usually just plug in a usb with the bios file thing on it, make sure the board is powered and hit the button, but it differs from board to board

ashen spindle
#

take the name of the board, go to the website and check the manual for it

warm night
#

theres a specific usb port you have to use sometimes, but itll probably be labelled either on the backplate if its integrated or in the manual

gusty nexus
#

It just says to rename the file on the USB to a specific name, plug the USB on the bios port and then hit the button πŸ˜…

ashen spindle
#

well then thats what you do

#

but if its a new board there is a good chance it already has a bios that supports the cpu anyway

warm night
#

yep

gusty nexus
warm night
#

i mean thatll be like

#

in the manual

#

but i guess itll have to do something to let you know it worked lol

gusty nexus
# warm night in the manual

I've read a little of the manual but I will see when I will have to do it πŸ˜…
Thanks you for the help ^^

We went from 54% improvement, to maybe 5.4% to 0% on 14th gen Intel havo

GN's video will be pretty damn interesting on these

Although it does feel like the whole point of 14th gen Intel is that new 14700K

ashen spindle

Nobody said 54% that was some production workload compared to alder lake with half the e cores

old marlin

cursive summit
ashen spindle
#

No it’s an intel slide showing it from the comparison against alder lake in productivity

#

Never compared to RPL

cursive summit
#

Alder lake... that's 12th gen?

#

Why compare to 12th gen

ashen spindle
#

Same reasons apple compare the m2 to 2018 intel laptops still

fallen shore
#

Does anyone have experience with Gigabyte laptops, because I can only find negative info about it on the internet and I want to hear the positive sides of their laptops.
I wanna know this because the new G6 by Gigabyte looked kinda tempting to buy.

cursive summit
#

From what I read the cheap ones are mostly negative

#

One was so bad that virtually every single one overheated, but that was some 1000$ one

woven laurel

I only heard positive news on the aero series

cursive summit

Cheap gigabyte laptops are usually really bad anyways

#

Looks like it packs a 4050 so bleh

fallen shore

I have a budget of like 1400 euro so

#

Am I better of just buying a MSI laptop or something

cursive summit

EU then?

#

Gaming laptop I am assuming

#

What display size?

fallen shore
#

I don't really care how big the display is

cursive summit

Well if you are ever packing one to carry somewhere, 17.3" tends to be too big for some backpacks

fallen shore
#

I wanted to switch to a laptop with AMD igpu, but I'm mainly a Linux user and Linux is better in general better with Intel

cursive summit

That's weird, AMD usually plays well with Linux

fallen shore

I'm drivers

I heard Linux is a bit annoying with sometimes

cursive summit

Well yeah, you are using Linux

fallen shore

Or something related. I don't really remember

umbral heron

Somebody said Linux? duck_sip

Mesa works great with AMD igpus, idk what issues

ashen spindle

The only amd issue for cpus would be the fTPM thing but not aware of anything else

cursive summit
#

@fallen shore What are you looking for anyways

#

Productivity laptop? Gaming laptop?

fallen shore
#

Idk really know tbh, first I wanted a laptop with long battery usage.

cursive summit
#

That sounds like a macbook

fallen shore
#

I don't like Macbooks

cursive summit
#

Or one of those AMD G14s but they aren't cheap nowadays

fallen shore
#

Well I kinda wanted to go for a AMD igpu because the TDP is usually pretty low and you get a lot of performance in return

#

As far as I know

cursive summit
#

Why iGPU

#

Do you even need a dGPU?

fallen shore
#

Not really, because I usually do system management on my laptop

umbral heron
#

If you need only productivity laptop go for one of newer ThinkPads, Intel iGPU, battery lasts really long and no problems with Mesa drivers

#

Or for administration tasks older will do too

cursive summit
#

The LG Gram is not a bad option innit?

fallen shore
#

And I also don't really wanna buy a Lenovo, because in my experience with Lenovo laptops is not that great

cursive summit
#

Good havo

fallen shore
#

Mostly with BIOS and firmware related stuff

umbral heron
#

Newer Lenovos... sure. Older ones not so much

cursive summit
#

Stop supporting Lenovo is a move I can get behind

umbral heron
#

In the most fucked up BIOS and firmware related stuff HP wins by a landslide

fallen shore

I'm using a Lenovo atm, but I need Windows for like everything hd_skull

ashen spindle

Where are my zen5 leaks Lenovo, hurry up

old marlin
cursive summit
#

@fallen shore You in EU since you said euros right?

fallen shore
#

Yeah

cursive summit
#

So, you aren't looking for a gaming laptop then

Considering you said you mostly just want battery life

theres like 10 bit colour support and it breaks everything

#

that's about it

umbral heron
#

Only gamescope compositor has somewhat working HDR

ashen spindle
#

Valve is slowly working on adding it but it’s still not just there

umbral heron
#

Other than that wayland devs are at each others throats about everything

warm night
#

its not really major because im using this for work anyway

#

was a mistake getting the oled though i am always concerned about burnin now

old marlin
#

it's funny how it needs valve to make linux capable of being a modern desktop os

ashen spindle
warm night
#

yea probably its alright but theres no like pixel shift etc on linux

#

which is slightly concerning me but we'll see i guess

ashen spindle
#

Wym on Linux, that’s Monitor software not on the os

warm night
#

what

old marlin
#

I don't think any monitor does pixel shift

#

not like it would really help with a desktop OS

warm night
#

i mean like in the asus app thing it has oled protection stuff and that app doesn't exist on linux obviously

old marlin
#

that should all run on the monitor tho

#

at least it does with the competitors

umbral heron
warm night
#

then maybe im fine

old marlin
ashen spindle
#

Oh I mean if you have an oled monitor they have refresh cycles that you can run manually or they do it after x hours when you turn it off

old marlin
#

yea

#

with my dell it nags me every now and then to run it's pixel refresh

#

which takes like 2 minutes or something

#

and then once every 1400 hours or so? iirc

#

for an hour long thing

umbral heron
warm night
#

well if the display does it itself then i guess theres no issues

old marlin
#

it should at least

#

unless asus has a stupid implementation

warm night
#

possible

raw zephyr
ashen spindle

That’s why I mean look at the rtings video, they have loess run for like 8 months now on static news cast and that barely does anything as long as the refresh runs

ill check it out when i get out of this lecture i guess

i need to at least somewhat pay attention

They said amd is not delivering what their supplier would give them, not a direct sale

cursive summit
#

Well either I'm not getting the whole story right

#

So their supplier who buys them from AMD didn't give them the right amount of chips

#

And they blame AMD for that?

#

Are they sure it's AMD's fault?

old marlin
#

Clueless their supplier probably assured them that it was AMDs fault

cursive summit
#

Cause there's a major gap in logic leap between "our supplier violated the agreement" and "AMD breached the contract"

ashen spindle
#

It could be amds fault but this isn’t direct sources for it

@old marlin I think we discussed this in depth

umbral heron
wheat plume
#

Oh
You didn't get the dock?

old marlin
#

imo liquid cooling on laptops is stupid

cursive summit

It's the one where they put liquid cooling with air cooling hybrid shit

But the liquid was like, weird or something

old marlin

uhhh

possible?

umbral heron
wheat plume

Aha!

#

If this works there isn't a reason to get the dock

The one you have probably has more ports too xd

cursive summit

Ah yeah

#

It was basically useless liquid cooling

wheat plume
#

Actually
You may need the official dock to output HDR to a display
Idk though

umbral heron

I wish it only had also an ethernet port too, now I have to connect usb3 -> eth to hub, so I have a small cable octopus dogekek rsync runs way better with cable than on wi-fi ;-;

@wheat plume I ended up buying the Ubook X took a while before it shipped but arrived today.
Also me swapped it's ssd with the old 256gb one from my steam deck (don't really need more on it) so here it is running SteamOS until I give it a clean install.

wheat plume
#

Is that the chuwi table you linked a bit ago?

thick elk
#

yea

#

pretty nice screen, certainly not fast but so far acceptable for light use

#

next to it my old one that is in fact dog slow and has a much less bright screen

wheat plume
#

Oo :D very nice

#

SteamOS just worked immediately?

thick elk
#

yes it just boots, it's just linux after all and the chuwi devices don't use any exotic parts so pretty much everything is mainlined

#

it's it's recovery menu though as I kind of messed up migrating between ssd's on the deck

#

don't particulary care as standard arch will do

wheat plume
#

Standard arch is better anyway
Having an immutable distro isn't the best for everyday productivity

#

It's great for the deck though which only needs to game for most people

astral haven
thick elk
#

Of course, standard arch is better suited for a desktop, just didn't get to that point yet:
now time for the real stuff:

[qlum@CryptArch Downloads]$ sudo cp archlinux-2023.10.14-x86_64.iso /dev/sdc
[sudo] password for qlum:
#

people make it seem way more difficult than it has to to create a bootable usb, cp works just fine

wheat plume
wheat plume
astral haven
#

yep, stable is relative ofc, but immutable tends to be on the more end of the spectrum

wheat plume
#

Yep

thick elk
#

Steam OS is also specifically made for a steam deck, so just randomly using it on some other device does not seem wise

wheat plume
#

It works fine if you have amd or Intel

#

But in gamescope the TDP setting won't work

thick elk
#

I am not planning to use it for anything I would use steamos for, could very well be I never even install steam on it.

wheat plume

#

Can someone tell me why TF you dont have root access to the AVD in Android Studio?????

#

Google, why do you not allow peope making apps for Android to have access to the root folders?????

astral haven
#

what?
you only get root on a rooted phone?

wheat plume
#

Im in the file manager for my emulated phone in Android Studio and I can only read the files

#

not edit them

astral haven
#

where exactly?

#

/Internal storage/
Here?

wheat plume
astral haven
#

yea thats the linux root folder

#

if you want access to that, root it, magisk i think it is gives you access to that

wheat plume
#

but like.....

#

why is it not accessible by default

astral haven
#

wait is that even inside the phone itself?

wheat plume
#

to APP DEVELOPERS????

wheat plume
astral haven
#

no i mean the actual data

#

are you sure its not mounting your drive?

wheat plume
#

yeh ths is the device explorer for the phone I have emulated

astral haven
#

again i think this is the root root folder

wheat plume
#

still, for people making apps, you should be given full perms to these folders and files

astral haven
#

no standard android app should have access to those?

#

you might be able to mess with them from outside the emulator

ashen spindle
#

I think asking stackoverflow/chatgpt/an android dev discord will get you an answer faster than troubleshooting here

astral haven
#

also this^

wheat plume
#

also, the AVD has 2 button navigation, is it possible to get it from there and install it on my phone too? I really liked the 2 button nav gestures but they got removed in Android 10

astral haven

2 button?

wheat plume
astral haven

interesting, i forgot about that (or maybe didnt have it bc samsung)

wheat plume
#

this was before Google decided to just copy Apple gestures in 10 and beyond

does google not have 3 button?

Yeah, you can use 3 button or gestures

they removed 2 button since 10

I had both in university

#

dont have a favorite between ios and android developing

both are absolute disgraceful

#

πŸ’€

wheat plume
#

Hmm, do you only consider Android development disgraceful cause its in Java?

#

or different reasons?

#

how extract it??

woven laurel
#

its the MVVM

#

and

#

the poor documentation in general

#

java on its own is really great

#

I prefer c# more because java is really verbose, but you can create some beautiful backend stuff with java

wheat plume
#

I dislike C#, too many data types for variables .-.

#

once spent 3 hours trying to figure out why my values I was trying to insert into a database were not being inserted as decimal numbers, but it turns out I was using the wrong data type .-.

#

was using decimal, should have been using float32 or some shit like that

ashen spindle
#

that is a good thing...

woven laurel
#

if you use a variable it auto assigns the correct datatype

ashen spindle
#

it makes sure you dont end up with a data type you didnt wnat

woven laurel
#

thats why im a bit confused

ashen spindle
#

so yes, a float is what you wanted

#

aside from that c# is basically java

wheat plume
#

wait no, I was using a float but I had to switch to decimal

#

i forgot exactly

mild dome
#

I know nothing about C#, but Decimal seems to justify it's own existence by being double the precision of a double

wheat plume
#

double?

ashen spindle
#

decimal is not a double

#

er, I should read correctly

woven laurel
#

float is a decimal with the difference in bits

ashen spindle
#

decimal is basically for currency and money

wheat plume
#

yeah....

ashen spindle
#

float and double for any other numbers

wheat plume
#

I was using float for money .-.

#

3 hours wasted on that error

#

and many changing of the code

#

cause there was no error, just the data being inserted wrong

ashen spindle
#

literally just ctrl f and just replace all points with the other data type?

woven laurel
#

do you need help with java or c#?

mild dome
#

I was just looking at this table. It's got them bits

wheat plume
#

well, rn I need help getting the 2 button nav APK from this AVD

ashen spindle
#

I think you misunderstanding c# makes you think its a bad thing when its saving you from uncertain inputs

woven laurel
#

come voice share your screen

ashen spindle
#

you just have to specify what you want

#

but you can still use var it's just bad practice and will end up hurting yourself more than it helps

wheat plume

hmm I need to figure out how to use ADB on Android studio onan AVD

#

cause I know you can use it to connect a real phone instead of using the AVD

#

but idk how to use it on the AVD directly

Gaming is lol

Nvidia also announced yearly GPU refresh

latent kiln
#

the asus strix variant is still 16k DKK

vagrant pagoda
#

Means 5090 would be sooner than later

cursive summit
latent kiln
#

2250 USD

vagrant pagoda
#

Which would also make sense that 4090 is ramping down

cursive summit
#

Wtf is a DKK

latent kiln
#

Danish currency yes

cursive summit
#

Ah a danish krone

#

@reef patrol there's more of you ducks

vagrant pagoda
#

As the 4090 is over year old.

Good one, the refresh is not happening for consumer if it even is happening on data center

cursive summit
#

Still not sure we should expect 5090 before 2025 lol

#

4000 series is selling just fine

latent kiln
#

If I buy a 4090 STRIX I get an ASUS keyboard as well lmao

#

But I'd rather use the Wooting that I am getting

umbral heron

I wonder if it's better to wait for zen 5 or go for 7950X/X3D...

latent kiln
#

Is zen 5 going to be AM5?

#

Then you could upgrade later

umbral heron
#

I have AM4 still

latent kiln
#

Does 7950X work with AM4?

umbral heron
#

Nope, it's AM5

#

I'm swapping CPU, mobo and RAMs

latent kiln
#

Yeah okay. My point was you can get AM5 and 7950X and then upgrade CPU later

umbral heron
#

If I got 7950X I'd probably then wait for Zen 6, if it'll be still supported by AM5 duck_sip

#

Thankfully I don't need new GPU, 6700XT is more than enough for me
Still, 6 cores for working on VMs is a little small, so I want to upgrade sooner than later

vagrant pagoda
#

If you're going to upgrade later

#

Get a 7800x3d

#

Best for now

ashen spindle
umbral heron
#

7800x3d is 8c/16t, I'd rather have at least 12c, because I'm running 3-4 VMs at a time at least ;-;

ashen spindle
#

My personal guess is CES announcement but nothing concrete obviously yet

umbral heron
#

Ok then, I will wait for CES then duck_sip

ashen spindle
#

yeah but dual CCD just is a pain

cursive summit
#

We aren't getting any new GPUs anytime soon, sadly

ashen spindle
#

what does gpu matter for this

cursive summit
#

I doubt the lad is doing a partial refresh

ashen spindle
cursive summit
#

Different people lol

ashen spindle
#
