android 14 bug?

warm night

fine for me and im on 14 so i dunno

wheat plume

Speaking of Android 14....

DISCORD
PLEASE MAKE A THEMED ICON, FFS

Even WHATSAPP has one .-.

#

there's a reason why I don't like extremely themed icon packs, since they make the icons that aren't made stick out so much

#

Meeyo icons are the icons I like to use

warm night
wheat plume
#

....wait how ?.

warm night
#

i just have it ..?

wheat plume
#

Do you have Nitro??
Did they lock it behind nitro?

warm night
#

lmfao

#

nope

#

no nitro

wheat plume
#

Wtf

warm night
#

snap & tumblr suck tho

crisp granite
warm night
#

at least tumblr is close enough to my colours anyway

#

it doesn't mega stand out like snap

#

xd

wheat plume
warm night
#

I actually dunno why i have it and you dont

#

I've done nothing special (that I am aware of)

wheat plume
#

Idk ;_;

warm night
#

unless its another one of those rollouts that take 308 years to get to everyone

#

but that seems like such a silly thing to do like that

#

is your app up to date

coarse cloak
wheat plume
#

Yep I'm in beta

final flame
#

Meeyo icons ftw

warm night
#

i hate squircles

#

wtf

wheat plume
astral haven
#

my icon pack has a ton of generic icons that are easy to apply to any app

warm night
#

didnt know i could hate an icon shape that much

#

kde connect user

#

lets go

final flame
#

Just because you have a opinion doesn't make it right

#

:)

wheat plume
#

KDE Connect is my favorite app ever

#

๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ

final flame
#

KDE connect is alright, has quite a few issues connecting for me

coarse cloak
#

is mario kart a good game

wheat plume
warm night
#

it always just connects for me at least, never really had an issue

wheat plume
final flame
#

also can't select multiple files you want to send at the same time, easiest option is just to compress the files into a zip and send them

coarse cloak
#

f

final flame
wheat plume
#

Oh
You are connecting to Windows

warm night
#

even using gsconnect on gnome it just worked

wheat plume
#

You can send multiple files at once on Linux

#

Both ways

final flame
#

so the windows app just sucks bruh

wheat plume
#

Even different file types

#

Yep

#

Well ..the app is the same

But on Linux its integrated into the file manager

#

So you can highlight many files and right click and send

#

It's not integrated into windows file explorer

final flame
#

so that's the issue

wheat plume
#

Ye

warm night
#

its probably possible to integrate it

#

but not going to happen probably

wheat plume
#

I bet Microsoft disallowed it

warm night
#

ive seen a few interesting things integrated into explorer

wheat plume
#

Dave

#

Same * lol

warm night
#

so i cant see that not being possible, also dunno if Microsoft would really restrict that

wheat plume
#

The keyboard is smaller in Android 14
I'm not used to it

warm night
#

unless they really wanted to push the link to windows

wheat plume
warm night
#

ive been on the beta for ages so i really dont know

#

yeah i guess maybe

wheat plume
#

It's shorter

final flame
#

this is as close as to being interated in explorer as they've done

wheat plume
#

Oh hmm

#

That's new

astral haven
final flame
#

that's been there lol

wheat plume
#

Does that only send one file even if you select multiple?

final flame
#

just nobody uses "sent to" since everyone forgets about it

wheat plume
#

True

#

Still
Sending from the phone to Windows works with multiple files

final flame
#

I think you can send more than one file, but I have yet to test

ashen spindle
wheat plume
#

Either way it works flawlessly on Linux
And even better in plasma desktop, ofc

astral haven
wheat plume
#

For me it has been

final flame
#

I've had many issues connecting it

warm night
#

its sometimes iffy getting it to pair at first

#

after that its fine

#

from my experience

wheat plume
#

You need to make an exception in the firewall for it though
Firewall blocks it

warm night
#

i dont even have a firewall bro

final flame
#

it's iffy even after the first pair

wheat plume
#

Windows

astral haven
#

that doesnt make it flawless, and you have been provided an example of it not being as such
i also found it really annoying with my deck

wheat plume
#

I've had issues with the windows build

warm night
#

its windows

#

gonna happen

#

insert trollface

final flame
#

doesn't that say more about the application more than the OS

wheat plume
#

Not really

astral haven
#

sure but you dont need it for windows, they have something that works, and better

wheat plume
#

KDE Connect is originally Linux only

final flame
#

there's plenty of apps that work great on Windows that do a similar thing
for example pushbullet

wheat plume
#

Yeah but Pushbullet is Windows native

astral haven
#

and the built in windows one also works

wheat plume
#

KDE Connect is QT

warm night
#

the link to windows thing just did not pair with my phone ever

wheat plume
astral haven
#

qt is an app design framework not a linux specific thing

#

and yes

#

that isnt a reason that it doesnt work

astral haven
astral haven
wheat plume
#

But it was made in Linux first
Only on Windows because qt happens to work there
And most of the features had to be wet reworked to work in Windows

astral haven
#

but both of those mean the app isnt flawless

#

๐Ÿคท same could be said for a ton more about linux

warm night
#

i forgot what it wanted me to do but i did it and it just didnt pick up that i did it

#

i gave up shortly after

#

because i didnt really care

astral haven
#

yup

#

ive got a pretty tight firewall and i had to jump through hoops to pair it first time

warm night
#

probably could have got it working but at the end of the day most people dont feel like troubleshooting

#

so i guess its gotta work first time for people to actually use it

#

or at least tell you what's happening or something

astral haven
warm night
#

i literally didnt have a firewall installed when I was using kde connect so i dunno about that

astral haven
#

network firewall

#

on your router

warm night
#

even that im pretty sure is just

#

not doing anything for my pc

#

yes very insecure no i dont care

astral haven
#

๐Ÿคท i have a slightly more manual setup than that

warm night
#

(until i get fucked)

#

(then ill care)

wheat plume
#

KDE Connect has themed icon

#

๐Ÿ’œ

#

Ffs discord

#

Wait wtf

#

Themed icon is only on stable branch and canary??

coarse cloak
#

are you on the other one

#

havent used it forever so i even forgot what its called

warm night
#

beta

wheat plume
#

Also.....
Android 14 seems to let you slide away persistent notifications

Just did it for Kde Connect's permanent notification

coarse cloak
#

PTB

warm night
#

oh

#

it does

#

that's interesting

wheat plume
#

See!

#

That's pretty neat

#

๐Ÿ’œ

#

Even shows in the history

astral haven
#

that was already in 13?

warm night
#

wtf why is the android 14 easter egg like a space ship flying game thing

wheat plume
#

Idk xd

#

Oh ... Guess I'm stuck in beta on phone

astral haven
#

can you get rid of those?

wheat plume
#

Probably yeah
You can turn off notifications for whatever app sends them

astral haven
#

even system?

wheat plume
#

Samsung doesn't let you, as we found out yesterday

astral haven
#

sure but dont think google did either on 13

wheat plume
#

They do

astral haven
#

neat

wheat plume
#

I have a few system apps that I disabled notifications from

astral haven
#

no

#

SYSTEM

#

not system apps

wheat plume
#

Hmmm

astral haven
#

yea those are not system

#

search all for either "system UI" or just "android system"

wheat plume
#

Yeah I forgot to enable the show system toggle

astral haven
#

now see thats a difference

#

Nice!

#

im stuck with both of these

wheat plume
#

Can turn them all off

astral haven
#

what happens if you enable do not disturb?

wheat plume
#

Hmmm?

astral haven
#

"do not disturb"

#

its a feature

#

pretty sure its android generic?

wheat plume
#

I have DND on RN

astral haven
#

sweet yea this bs is annoying asf

wheat plume
#

I've never once seen that notification

#

Must be Samsung thing

astral haven
#

yup ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

warm night
#

i get the bedtime mode one

#

i can swipe that away i dunno if you couldn't before

#

honestly can't remember

wheat plume
#

I get no notification about DND
But it shows the DND schedule in the tile

vagrant pagoda
#

thats a lot of grunt

astral haven
#

where does the air go?

#

assuming those are 400w gpus, that prolly gets super toasty

#

unless ofc those are 2k+ rpm 38mms

wheat plume
#

Discord's "Uploading files" notification can ignore DND.....

Why though

astral haven
#

did you hide all?

wheat plume
#

Not for discord

#

You mean in DND settings? Then yes I did hide them all

astral haven
#

interesting yea thats janky

wheat plume
#

I think I remember Facebook Messenger also ignoring DND

#

Hearing that fucking ding sound every message

fading cloud
#

so how many new things are there for android 14?

astral haven
#

many

vagrant pagoda
astral haven
#

yeeeeee

vagrant pagoda

and 6 4090s

fading cloud
#

I feel like every since android 7 to android 8 there weren really any more features, year over year. imo

vagrant pagoda
#

hence the dual 2kw psus

astral haven
#

also 6k rpm?
are they 120mm? if so which model
my pfc1212de are 5400rpm

vagrant pagoda
#

dnd dosent hide notifactions that dont pop up

astral haven

it has a button that says "hide status bar icons"

steep creek
#

Never seen hspa here either. Very interesting

astral haven
#

seen it before, dont remember if it was in the us or europe

steep creek
#

Ah

astral haven
#

I think it was probably in europe

steep creek
#

Probably couple countries have it

fading cloud
#

Yea I have seen h+ too, germany however germany being germany shut down all 3G towers pepesalute

fading cloud
steep creek
#

Yep same. 2g 4g and 5g are the only ones remaining to my knowledge

fading cloud
astral haven
#

i mean it is

fading cloud
#

Nah dawg

astral haven
#

its just 5g has 2 parts

#

the good part and mmwave

fading cloud
#

5G NSA is based on 4G+ with some very tiny benefits, mostly imo marketing

astral haven
#

for the end user?

#

10x upload bandwidth with the same signal strength

fading cloud
#

5G SA is true 5G that is actually based on 5G

#

For Vodafone, to enable 5G Sa you firstly need a two year plan, and go into the app to enable SA mode for the sim card

astral haven
#

ah

fading cloud
#

Yop

astral haven
#

tmobile just does SA automatically

fading cloud
#

germany?

vagrant pagoda
#

ill never get sa

#

im to far from towers

#

๐Ÿ˜ฆ

astral haven
#

doubt

steep creek
#

Standalone here in the big cities, 4g elsewhere

vagrant pagoda
#

i mean 5g nsa is everywhere 4g is for some networks

vagrant pagoda
#

i have to have a booster to get more than 1 bar on my property

fading cloud
#

Thing is, some people complain about 5G - while others dont
I am assuming those who complain about 5G (like bad coverage, drop outs etc) are 5G SA users while the other peasants like myself get 5G NSA which is almost everywhere where a 4G tower is

vagrant pagoda
#

i mean even on 5g sa

#

it will still connect to 4g/5gnsa

#

and will failover

astral haven
fading cloud
astral haven
#

ive been to some mmwave areas and its incredible

fading cloud
astral haven
#

i got faster than that pre5g on regular lte

vagrant pagoda

yeah

was gonna say

#

that isnt that great

fading cloud
#

Yop germany my wooting members

#

THough it is about 10x faster than what I get at hiome LMAO

astral haven

yea and thats 3x what i get on SA indoors

fading cloud
#

This is what I get at home with my internet connection

#

I srl like my Ping, I always liked my ping

but my bandwidth sucks ass

astral haven

This is my best 5g score

Hey someone knows smth about PSUs ?

#

My current one has bad smell

reef patrol

Define... smell. Like burnt plastic? or fish?

#

Or warm dust?

fading cloud

Like in the store are Corsair rm750x, seasonic GX series ROG strix , Thor

fading cloud
reef patrol
#

That is NOT a good smell. Could be a capacitor leaking, dying. I wouldn't trust a PSU like that and immediately chuck it and replace.

frozen ingot

It was just to extreme, my mom recognized the smell of electronic burn because in the past something already had burnt.

Here was No flame no smoke just smell

warm night
#

seasonic is usually always a good choice

old marlin

except when it wasn't

and they had massive issues with transients

umbral heron
#

Hah!
No, I'll never get anything Seasonic again
I got 2 PSUs from them, 650W, whereas my PC ran great on 550W
Both of them has horrible issue with turning on PC, like if you flipped a switch on the back they needed 5 minutes to "warm up"
And while playing they could randomly turn off PC just because
Got myself 650W Cooler Master and lo and behold - no issues at all since

old marlin
#

usually it might only smell a fishy when new (espescially some corsair units)

#

and then possibly a hot plastic smell for a short while when they heat up the first few times

ashen spindle
fading cloud

Yeah no, on idle the smell didn't develop but as soon as I fire up an intense game the smell started

cursive summit

Well I don't think so cause the tweet literally has a link in it

vagrant pagoda
#

and no one is talking about ps5 fpkg

pale sigil
#

I didn't wanna talk about it but the guy who notoriously jailbroken PS4 tweeted he claimed a bounty

#

And keep consoles old

cursive summit
smoky frigate
#

about the mobile internet btw, a 60bux router + taping it to the attic window is pretty fine. getting 35-50ms in games, download speeds at around 70mbps. mayhaps I have misjudged 4G @cursive summit

pale sigil
#

Idk if I got that across

wheat plume
wheat plume

๐Ÿค”

pale sigil
#

But basically it seems the PS5 was exploited

#

For side loading

#

Wouldn't surprise me if PS4 pkgs worked on PS5 as people even backport games

vagrant pagoda
#

you can run most ps4 and lots of ps1/ps2 game in fpkg

smoky frigate
# cursive summit 4G is ass though

considering the price, it's mighty fine. when 5g gets cheaper I'll get a router for that. 70mbps is one of the better internet connections I have had up to this point, didn't think 4G could do it

cursive summit
#

Why not just get fiber

smoky frigate
#

don't have it in this neck of the woods

cursive summit
vagrant pagoda
#

again nothing about ps5 fpkgs

cursive summit
#

Do PS5 games not come in fpkg format or something?

smoky frigate
#

this house doesn't even have a cable connection. 4G is my only choice, that or ultra shitty DSL at 6 mbit. no sir!

pale sigil
#

They do but it's the keys that are needed

#

Irrc

vagrant pagoda
#

they come in fpkg

vagrant pagoda
#

but ps4 run with a different container

#

running ps4 fpkg isnt a big deal as ps4 is broken

smoky frigate
vagrant pagoda
#

you want ps5 fpkg

pale sigil
#

Keep your hopes as low as your firmware is the good olde saying.

cursive summit
#

I probably misinterpreted the tweet as "PS5 fpkg" as running ps5 fkpg's

pale sigil
cursive summit
#

So, yeah no ps5 jailbreak yet

pale sigil
vagrant pagoda
#

i have a cfw ps4pro and a cfw ps3

#

ps5 is marginal over the pro for ps4 games

pale sigil
#

Same

#

Well PS4 normal

vagrant pagoda
#

i use my ps4 pro with vita to stream games

#

it works amazingly well still

pale sigil
#

Don't update bla bla

#

Once it's complete he usually discloses itn

vagrant pagoda
#

yeah

cursive summit
#

A bounty as in, for Sony to patch?

pale sigil
#

Ye

vagrant pagoda
#

running ps4 fpkg helps find exploits

cursive summit
#

Well that's a bastard havo

pale sigil
#

Why?

vagrant pagoda
#

as now you have the entire ps4 library to find an expooit

#

the issue is to get this to work

cursive summit
#

The less patched these consoles are the better

vagrant pagoda
#

you need a ps4 game on your ps5

#

withouth psn

cursive summit
#

But eh money is good so whatever

vagrant pagoda
#

one that isnt disk based

#

the real jewel is when the bd expoit leads to code execution

pale sigil
#

If you're serious about jailbreaking you're on the version that can be jailbroken

vagrant pagoda
#

right now you can only run ps1/ps2 emu from the bd expoit

cursive summit
vagrant pagoda
cursive summit
#

5 of course

vagrant pagoda
#

4 is 6.72

#

5 was 4.5, now its 4.03

cursive summit
#

How did the version number go down? thonk

vagrant pagoda
#

the current expoit is for 4.03

#

to run any fpkg

cursive summit
#

Any?

vagrant pagoda
#

yes

#

so anything that runs on ps4

cursive summit
#

For the uninitiated, is this whole fkpg thing the same as, let's say Switch's nsp?

vagrant pagoda
#

fpkg is fake package

cursive summit
vagrant pagoda
#

its how ps4 games get packaged for ps5

cursive summit
#

Ah

#

So no running PS5 games off an image of sorts yet

vagrant pagoda
#

yes

#

i keep saying that

#

it just removes the license check for fpkgs

cursive summit
#

You can't even run the game off a hard drive

#

Why did they stuff the logo on a 100$ hard drive anyways

rough osprey
#

are the missing npcs on that drive

vagrant pagoda
#

yoiuve been able to install pkg and fpkg if you had licences for them

smoky frigate
#

this is where they store all their wasted potential

vagrant pagoda
#

and there are "publicish" accounts with loads of licenses you can find

but it didnt work for ps4=

it is nice to see that you can stack the two of them tho

noticing something rather weird with the fsr3 output, it really looks like all of the frames are somewhat garbled when theres stuff not moving and other stuff moving

thick elk

I don't know the exact details but this does more than antilag does.

thick elk
#

Its not the same as reflex sure but still it seems to do more than antilag.

#

Could it be that antilag+ uses RDNA3 specific things, possible even likely but I do believe additional reduction over the current antilag implementation is very much possible on older amd hardware.

You shall never know

misty saffron

imo this is a good thing

#

cheaper laptops with preinstalled windows, potentially

smoky frigate

so maybe that modded one will work

thick elk
#

It uses nvidia's api's to work just hte underlying implementation is different and works on amd.

#

I have not yet tried it though

ashen spindle
#

main poin is that it has nothing to do with frame interpolation so AFMF working on rdna2 doesnt mean anything if anti lag+ works or not

smoky frigate
#

it appears to integrate with proton nvapi.. the author warns against anticheat, but hell, I wanna try it lol

thick elk
#

That is true the two are very much not related

smoky frigate
#

single player? never heard of it

thick elk
#

It's also probably a disclaimer more than anything as messing with these types of things in a multiplayer game is a pretty big red flag for any anti cheat.

smoky frigate
#

the author mentions DXVK, but I'm using vkd3d.. oh well

#

I have heard of the starfield and I think of the marios before!

#

(but no I unironically have not played cyberpunk, I never got into any cdpr game)

#

tbh, how much lag is there to be reduced

thick elk
#

I have cyberpunk installed and played the witcher triology though never finished the third game, maybe someday.

#

I can tell you about the Witcher 1, playing the pre enhanced edition on a Pentium 4 was rough, you really could have 15 minute loading times

smoky frigate
#

that first game was rough lol

#

never got very far into it, not into any witchers.

thick elk
#

Enhanced edition made it a lot better and I did quite enjoy it, maybe more so than the later games.

#

It's installed but not yet started it, maybe tonight.

smoky frigate
#

I pirated it for my gf when it released and she played it, it looked alright. my poor Vega 56 got put through the ringer by it. I will probably give it a go myself one of these days

thick elk
#

I have stopped pirating on pc for some time now, consoles I pirated for longer but sort-off decided against it but still sort of unsure what my exact position is.
On the one hand I am a strong believer in being allowed to use my system as I want.
On the other hand my modded switch is probably banned from buying games legitimately.
So dlc / updates I cannot buy at all, in that sense I feel warranted to pirate.
Retail games I can also buy retail.

Besides that if I were to pirate a multi-platform game on switch even if digital only, it would deprive me from buying it on a different system. this same logic could also be extended to exclusive but rather that I play / buy those instead of playing a pc game.

For now I have landed on the following philosophy.
If a game is available retail and I am fine buying it retail and pirating updates. DLC I should generally simply not use unless I really want to play it and the game is switch exclusive.

Pirating a multi-platform game is only fine if I already bought the pc version before playing, that being said I'd probably rather play those on deck.

Legacy systems I feel is mostly fine, as noone has any expectation of new first sales for those systems and an updated port is a different product.

In practice it has been somewhat easy as I have not had the intention of playing any switch games ever since I got my steam deck.

Random qlumposting I know.

smoky frigate
#

oof, I have no such qualms, I am a bastard. but I do buy everything I enjoy

thick elk
#

I was there, especially as a kid I had little pocket money but over the years I have been thinking about these things more and have come to different conclusions, especially now that I have a lot more disposable income.

#

There are still things I pirate such as tv-shows and music but my position may move there.

#

For music it's the generally low value musicians get when streaming it.
For TV shows its my low consumption and dislike for streaming services that make me feel okay about it.

coarse cloak
#

I do buy stuff if it's not overpriced and I enjoy enough to want to support the developer/company

astral haven
#

i get most of my games by buying it on humble bundle

#

I leave the default cut

coarse cloak
#

like Daniel Mullins' games, The Hex & Pony Island, played them and then decided to buy after loving them

thick elk
#

For me the biggest own against pirating things that are overpriced is that time spend playing those games, that deprive me from buying / playing games that are not overpriced.

coarse cloak
#

i only buy if its on promo tho ngl

thick elk
#

Honestly Humble bundle back at the start was what drew me away from piracy, be it slowly at first.

coarse cloak
#

humblebundle is great

smoky frigate
#

since I went away from windows, getting pirate copies to run is an arse and a half anyway. so I'm buying more than I ever did on winders. go figure

thick elk
#

Humble bundle has mostly been meh at best in the last couple of years.

astral haven
#

ive been subbed for 3 years now i think

thick elk
#

I am subbed to monthly / choice yea but I mostly just skip months.

astral haven
#

every once in a while it gets something good, and the 20% discount on any game pretty much is really nice

coarse cloak
#

after that I never opened it cause i wasnt gonna get a sub and stopped farming cheap game bundles for my account

astral haven
#

yea their subscription service usually has 1 washed out AAA, and a game each from a variety of genres

coarse cloak
#

for me that sounds good enough since i barely play any games

thick elk
#

I just have an rss feed or two with free games on epic and game bundles.

#

So I decide from there.

astral haven

Armoury crates sucks though

empty wren
#

Alright

astral haven

all the options are available on the others

#

but gigabyte and biostar for example dont properly organize all the options

#

just the most used ones

empty wren
#

Oh

astral haven
#

not sure if biostar has the options available in a submenu, but gigabyte has them, mostly with unintelligible names for all the rare stuff

#

if you poke down deep enough in asus you can usually find a few unintelligible ones, but its even for some nescessary stuff on giga

empty wren
#

Nothing seemed weird on my z690 but there was maybe too many options

astral haven
#

yea its only for some of the terts and training reconfig settings

#

but some of those are nescessary...

#

at least for best performance

empty wren
#

Speaking of training do you mean like fan curve testing

astral haven
#

no i mean memory training

empty wren
#

Oh okay I think I seen something like that

astral haven
#

there are always hidden settings that cant be manually set, or are far too much work to manually set, and you can somewhat modify how the training completes

#

not that ive ever used that, but ive seen some folks using it

empty wren
#

Gonna have to read about em later I definitely want to try an overclock, especially my Intel gpu

#

Arc 770LE

astral haven
#

thats not gonna require bios tho lel

empty wren
#

Right but it will not hurt to do it all at once right?

#

Or do I need to run one component for a few months

astral haven
#

uh if you accidentally have one thing unstable, its a nightmare to find

empty wren
#

Okay then

#

I do know I am not properly overclocking my memory

#

I had to reset the bios when I first built my PC like 5 times

#

But memory is quite complex it seems there are timings, voltages ect ect

astral haven
#

yup

#

what cpu?

empty wren

astral haven

d5 i presume?

empty wren
#

You mean ddr5?

astral haven

ye

empty wren
#

Yep

#

CL30

astral haven
#

yea integral hasnt updated their guide on overclocking for ddr5

#

its mostly the same, but all the numbers besides the voltage are different

#

(same process)

empty wren
#

Per CPU or per brand?

astral haven
#

for ddr5

empty wren
#

Like I know one cpu might be binned better

#

Oh

astral haven
#

the instructions are generic enough to apply to everything

#

but it doesnt have ddr5 specific info like infinity fabric clocks,, memory chip expected performance, known good voltages for ddr5 cpus, etc

empty wren
#

Infinity fabric is amd related right?

astral haven
#

yea should have said northbridge since i knew you were intel

empty wren
#

I mean I thought Intel did not have it

astral haven
#

with intel you dont have to worry about it

#

because higher is better as long as it is stable

empty wren
#

Is it true ddr5 still sucks on amd

astral haven
#

infinity fabric is alot jankier and slower, and thus is also more important

empty wren
#

I heard that there was a certain limit
