Not what I'm talking about at all...
They swapped which of the Ryzen AM4 coolers you'd get included with certain CPUs
Midway through AM4 era.
yes
Skimping.
they added the stealth
the difference tho was that intel actually doesnt give stock coolers that arent sufficient
and the intel stock coolers are actual pennies like the wraith stealth, and dont actually contribute to the proce of the cpu unlike the prism
and the prism is just not enough for "95" watts
tbh if it was actually 95 watts it might even be fine
yeah it is
they work fine at 125w
with what cpu?
the cpu it comes with
like?
5900 non x is the fastest that has a box cooler
4ghz all core is throttle?
if it cant run cinebench twice without the second score being lower, its throttling
yea thats not how that works
yes
heat soaking a cooler isnt throttling
by that logic every single aio thottles
ryzen will drop under base clock if you push it hard enough on an open loop
run prime95 on stock and youll see
my 5950x is 3.2ghz base and itll drop under 3 if i put the right fft size in
you running over power target then
so clock is not a good indicator of sufficient cooler
when the clock is heavily variable thanks to the power usage of the program itself you have to ignore it
in that review they were getting 86C on the stock cooler
which is under tjmax of 95
good for it?
did you look at the review?
yep
where is it thottleing
it shows 1 the performance always being lower
and 2 it doesnt show repeated results
then show me the opposite
non of those are ryzen stock coolers
final result isnt throttling
yea i cant find anyone running cinebench loops on them
but it is lower performance at stock
so even on the first run it will be lower performance than a cooler that doesnt throttle
the bigger problem is you have to pay for these coolers since they arent as cheap as the intel ones
and they include worse coolers on hotter processors too
when?
they have had the 4 heat pipe for the 90w+ for ages
3600x
95 watts, full alu cooler until people whined and they gave them a copper slug
"95"
thats another thing
intel fkn actually doesnt lie about the power limits
they just let the processors ignore the power limits for short times
now thats also stupid
but at least theres a claim of precision in there somewhere
amd just makes up numbers
yeah idk why amd isnt taking advantage of being much more power efficent on loads and just use real numbers instead of doing the same as intel for categories

5600x released after r20 which automatically runs in a loop
and the score just keeps going down
now this isnt better than the intel stock cooler, but amd is costing us money on even these higher end cpus that solidly need better cooling
sure 5700g can get a stock cooler
same story as the 10400f for example
or 10400 non f
they throttle a tiiny bit but its not a whole ton
5% is the difference between the 5600x and the 5600...

oh no
Who said this was an iPhone?
But no, this was me.
First time I've done this, needed to use IPA for the glue since all three strips broke.
I'm probably going to have to pay someone to swap that connector...
Jusst a joke
Is it not available to just buy?
I don't have the tools or skills to replace that connector.
Is it not just glued down?
It's soldered to the motherboard.
The battery side of the connector came off and is stuck in the motherboard side.
Ah okay

fml terrible coil whine in menu's on my new 7800xt ๐ฆ
from high fps?
Yeah most likely since not in game, just in menus
This and the cs2 issue making me regret the purchase
check and see if you can just limit fps via RTSS or special k or something
Lots about the AMD issue on cs2 reddit, so it's the game/amd driver issue FYI
yea but its related to the shader cache being rebuilt every time you launch the game
you gotta play every map and shoot every weapon and it goes away
imagine doing that before each pro game
no?
That is very much the games issue
I play the same map twice with same weapons and second round it still has issues
yeah but you gotta fly through every spot in the map to get it gone and each gun that gets used needs to be cached first lmfao
even from enemies
man I get the stutter when in spawn there is nothing there I didnt cache first run
GN tested cards and had it on literally all
its not just a driver issue, if there is one
Holy 7800xt rip
nice didnt see it yet
But good to know Nvidia has them too so its not AMD related. Most ppl on reddit just seemed to have issues on AMD and no mention of Nvidia whatsoever
thats why I keept saying its not a driver thing lol
you were right ๐
3070 > 4070 did my eyes go wrong
no thats why the game is a bit of a mess still
Nice official release
I'm sorry what

"Huawei Mate60 Pro is definitely a magical phone. When it was first launched, the specifications were 7nm process and 8 cores. However, after the 116 version system update, it turned out to be a 7nm process, 12 cores and supports hyper-threading. Now the latest 121 version system update , and even directly upgraded to the 5nm process, which is really amazing."
Per GSM it's just a 7nm octacore
So Huawei is just.. updating specs with software updates?
Okay there is some sort of fuckery going on
With a software update they went on to match the speed of a snapdragon 8 gen 2, which is a 4nm chip
How did Huawei manage to somehow upgrade a chip with 4 more cores, and shrink the core design by 2nm with a software update
yep same thing with 7800 xt and 6800 xt..
Volvo bad
:(
I genuinely think that 4000 and 7000 series from AMD and NV are just scams
7800XT loses to 6800 lol
Like, what
They delivered us one of the most competitive GPU generations with RTX 3000 and RX 6000
And then were exhausted or some shit and decided to drop a dump gen
Like, these would be amazing cards if the pricing wasn't so horrible from Nvidia and the terrible decisions with nerfing memory bus
AMD are just releasing cards that are just too expensive
cs2 is not the normal game performance
the 7800xt loses basically nowhere to the 6800xt and is 150 lower msrp
Really they are the same price in the brand new market, so the msrp doesn't account for much
7800XT should be like, 400$? To be considered a great offer at this point
lmfao
you say most competitive like rasterisation performance and not raytracing/Deep-Learning gives market share
So what gives in terms of AMD market share then?
So, you're saying that the fact that we can find brand new 6800XTs for 530$ or so doesn't hinder 7800XT's reception?
Cause it's really about the same perf if not worse at times, for.. what gain?
AMD AFMF and anti-lag+ basically
Yeah idk what volvo did but they need to fix it asap or people are dropping cs2 like flies
no people are not dropping it, because their card has 230 instead of 290 fps lmfao
people don't seem to take AMD raytracing seriously if there's no deep-learning antialiasing method to cover the usual performance hit
who tf talks about raytracing on a 4060 either
Btw the DP 2.1 in RDNA 3 is just UHBR 13.5 and not UHBR 20, so ~52 gbps effective bandwidth instead of the maximum ~77gbps
Muh DLSS3
maybe it isn't what influences people to buy NVIDIA and cause AMD to continue to be unable to compete ๐ค
I think that sentence missed some words somewhere
dude, not bc of average fps being lower but due to the stutters
I mean I'll take it as given if the general consumer doesn't actually factor in raytracing/deep-learning for purchase decisions and thus the RX 6000 series vs RTX 3000 series was an actual competitive market...
But it's early days we have to suck it up to valve and wait for fixes
CS:GO died for this trash
yeah but that will be fixed in due time, just an awkward release state
But I mean sheesh, beta was for months and pros have been playing it for longer.. Like WTF?
Whole volvo team use Intel gpu or what? Nobody had stutters?
I think the biggest issue is just shoving it out the door into the public so that millions of people that used to play GO now have to bother with reporting bugs and suffering stutters
Instead of.. people just being invited into the test to play it, if they want to
Agreed
yet somehow basically everyone wanted an invite and anyone who had one basically didnt play csgo
Definitely feels more like alpha/early beta state to me than full release.
And now I don't want to play CS2 and want to play GO
So, tough luck
ok so far still a tiny minority so tough luck
You can't justify the fact they clearly completely botched and mishandled this launch
given they are doing daily fixes currently, so give them some time, if it's not getting fixed soon sure then it's an issue
I can understand the low fps but stutterfest is inexcusable imho
In a competitive game btw
I gave up because I was lagging in A SINGLE PLAYER OFFLINE GAME
It would just lag me out, refuse to acknowledge any inputs, and I'd just die to bots lol
How do you start to lag in an offline match
Just give us back CS:GO until they fix this mess
maybe give them at least like a week and not just 3 days before you yell for a revert
Idk man
They never should have mishandled the launch like this to begin with
It shouldn't be released with this shite
Quin, go play it for yourself, see how long you last
I'm not saying it doesnt happen or anything
Easy to talk when you haven't experienced the absolute mess they launched
It's a competitive game
Stutters, lag, freezes, bugs, glitches, etc should not be a thing
If those clearly exist in test build, why is this being rolled out globally
Keep it there until it's ready ffs, what's the rush
It was just unplayable for me and even worse with -vulkan flag
I literally couldnt play it, vulkan would make me go to 5 fps
and zone out for few secs
Btw, this game is nowhere near ready for launch
VACnet is not a thing, all of the sidemodes like wingman, gun game, flying scout, etc, a lot of the maps are just not there
So why the sudden rollout of what is clearly not a fully developed product
yeah a big fuck up, too bad they are not on the stock market
Damn, stock market is the real voting with your wallet everyone keeps talking about
but collectively the stock market does influence company policy in a more real impact than most videogame consumers will ever be able to attempt by 'refusing to buy' given how capable big names are of having a baseline level of sales regardless of quality
yeah yeah
Those ppl who hype all the way down during this 6months are taking L
"Upgrade your PC, yall don't have 4090?"

okay I'd be very surprised if we were at Todd Howard levels of logic in CS2
I was wrong sorry even 4090 can't fix input lag and frametime spike
wdym? makes no difference?
If you want actual changes in the way a company is going
Especially with starfield for example
ah gotcha
as in, if you invest big time and then 'punish' a company for doing something stupid by selling off shares you won't make an individual impact
Even then
With starfield you would have to be a BIG investor for it to even make a difference
No, ofcourse not, but you'd bet there'd have been a 5-10 % drop with the cs2 release state ๐
Could have gone other way too
No
Valve has no stock
Not a thong there
They watch player numbers, case and key sales etc
thats why I said "would have been" ๐
And how many people complain online
if it lags but people buy skins it would still make stock go up
except if it lags for 90% nobody is buying skins if they can't play
Streamers being the remainder 10% that still open boxes for viewers, gotta make money even if inconvenient
yes thats why CS2 is the third most viewed game with 30% more viewers than valorant on twitch because nobdoy is playing or buying stuff
the new release def generated hype
like the bot game I played had no issues, while having xiv in the background open too, watched I think olofmeister? play a game and nothing happend, it's not like every gun shot is giving you a frame drop lol
now sure its a 60fps stream only so its not showing every issue but its not like nobody can play
This is 3rd party info, but on reddit people are saying that the game plays normally after you disable dxnavi and/or the shader cache is done caching. That pros visit every map of the playpool on bot game first and then queue after.
I don't have the time nor interest to test that
maybe that works idk, point is its playable and im not going to crucify them for that in 3 days after launch
like yeah its not an ideal launch still
but its not like you have no way to play it now
EW
I read that these (Timeless II) are apparently a major disappointment
That looks horrid
I guess 7hz tried to match Moondrop on the pretty damn good launch of Blessing 3 and completely funked it

So it's a software bug but a few days back they were going to downclock the chip?
Who said they were going to downlock the chip?
Definetly not apple...
rich problem for the rich
As a product it's okay ish just the price is way off. Should be more closely priced to budget cpu blocks with a small premium.
And it should include thermal adhesive and small heat sinks for on the gpu.
Impressive how apple can make wireless charging incompatible
Alternatively, how BMW made a charger so bad it kills NFC chips.

I thought Apple pay was transmitting from the device similar to a door lock
Forgot actual term
I might be mixing terms up though
how do you even mess up a charger like that
isn't there supposed to be a talk between the charger and phone for how much voltage to supply
its wireless
if you throw out wireless at the frequency the nfc coil receives and there isnt good protection on the nfc coil, you are gonna fry your nfc chip
Honestly I hate the watercooling design style Corsair went with. Though I guess they were first to go that way so may capture more market but not a fan myself
Nah
A few days ago they blamed the overheating on non-Apple USB C cables
Not only
Was that Apple officially?
Apple stores in China
Can't find what I read, but there was something about how they planned to gimp performance to cope with thermals
Here you go
Ah it was some random analyst
Yea, definetly not someone to pay attention to, we already know that Apple spends a ton of effort to avoid software from using unneeded resources
They only throttle when they want you to buy a new phone lmao
Nah, that generic block style has been around for a while, just Noone bothered with it because it's dumb
I mean the looks design part, making the metal look almost like plastic
What're you talking about
That to me corsair water blocks look visually very bad
See here
Ah, right
You just started talking about it all of a sudden so I was like, Apple makes plastic looking metal?
Yeah idk why did I not do it as a reply to the ek thing
Although I do have questions why do Apple always use glass on the back of their phones
Can always just do with metal
I guess it feels better? But then cases exist and why wouldn't you use a case
You could use aluminum but it would have to be less than 0.25mm thick
Honestly, I never though I would say that compiling something to JavaScript makes it run faster, but I guess there is a first for everything
Brodie Robertson - Linux ON Scratch - 2023
Why 0.25
It already has a titanium/aluminium body of I think 0.1mm/0.1mm already
So, why the glass on top
Structural stability id think
0.25 because at the wireless charging frequencies itโs apparently aluminum skin depth
Right so something with wireless charging?
Plenty of phones with just metal though
Which of them has wireless charging
Hm, most of them?
That's not true, Even alu is really awful for wireless signals
I am indeed struggling to find a phone that has no glass on the back lol
Yeah but based on frequency you can have some thickness without too much impact. 0.25 is already huge loss
Ok I found one
Aluminum frame with plastic back
Reverse wireless charging
Which.. I have no clue how different that is from normal wireless charging
It says reverse wired
Tf does that even mean
That it can charge if you plug earphones or sth into it
Reverse wireless = put earbuds on the back and the earbuds charge
The usb port can output energy
That's glass or plastic
Afaik ceramics is not metal
Not glass either
That will be for a few seconds otherwise the phone would get hot
That's default qi charging
Silicone polymer isn't glass either
Well yeah many cheap phones use plastic and have wireless charging
So, we can do something more than glass
Ceramics and glass are similar materials
Cause glass is annoying
It's just like glass
And I donโt want the feel of plastic on the back of the phone ngl
Well afaik they are quite brittle
Different formulas are different
Not even sure what the material properties of ceramics are nowadays
But silicone polymer back sounds interesting though
Practically whatever you want
Basically plastic but more sophisticated?
Plastic
Anyways plastic backs on wireless phones we had for a while but itโs reserved for lower end due to device feel
Also plastic likes to scratch
Very easily
I imagine silicone might be a lot nicer
Matte back is very hard to scratch
Idk glass is just.. can we get rid of glass?
Also if you want a plastic back, you can just get a case
On a glass phone
Why
I know it's very resistant to scratches but glass is just bleh
Why though
Then put on a case...
Frosted glass has nice feel and is very scratch resistant so why not have it
Glass is very good at protecting the internals, very good at absorbing shock
And you can put plastic on top
Last I checked Apple and co tend to bind the frame to the glass, so you have to pay a lot more for it to replace it in case glass shatters
So, I'd rather there not be glass there
They stopped doing that
And everyone else just uses a bit of glue or tape
Also back glass is far better than using the front glass as structural...
Samsung
Google
...
Think that's fixed now
For me glass just doesn't do it, and the case argument while valid also adds bulk to the phone.
I just really prefer plastic, why use a fragile material if all it does is push people towards using cases.
There are also some pretty good plastics
Plastic is a whole material science in and of itself
Even the relatively cheap plastic back on my poco x3 pro is fine.
I definitely do.
Personally I love the feel of glass but it's the angles of the phone that do it for me.
of course plastic comes with the drawback that you need some kind of midframe for structural support of the phone itself.
People were annoyed about the Pixel 7a having a plastic back
But I was so happy haha
Glass is slippy and easily breakable
Finger skill issue, ngl.
If you have a case then it becomes completely pointless.
I personally never owned a glass backed phone.
My first smartphone had a plastic back, my second one a metal one (arguably also quite stupid) and my current one plastic again.
I've had glass a few times
Feels nice but I just don't like it and it broke easily
Same shit with other phones
Kind of weird to say that I am still on my third smartphone.
Started rather late with the whole thing in 2013 and being on my third in a decade is quite normal I think
HTC, HTC, iPhone, iPhone, Samsung, Xiaomi, Pixel.
Both iPhones were handed down though and one I used for a few months as my htc broke
And the second one blew up
For me Samsung, ZTE, Xiaomi.
Yes it's android 8 update was in limbo due to US sanctions at the time.
HTC was during the older tech days when android was terrible so my first one after years became horrible, second one sadly became faulty and the camera unusable (known issue).
It did release eventually and custom roms went to 8 just fine.
iPhone 5 was because my HTC broke and iPhone 6s lasted me a year and blew up.
Samsung S7 was by far my favorite phone
S7 and my Xiaomi are my longest owners phones and both were swapped due to battery issues.
S7 I think I would have kept for 2 or even 3 more years but the battery was just unusable.
Had to charge it multiple times a day, it was horrible and unreliable, I tried to replace the battery but couldn't and no one else would due to the fragile design, even Samsung broke the screen when replacing the charging port which failed but was under warranty.
For me my note 3 lasted me until I fell with my bicycle at it's ripe age of 4 and a half years. Granted the GPS barely worked at that point. My axon 7 was just slow at some point and well android 8 was quite old in 2021. So now my Poco X3 pro does nicely.
I did replace the battery on my previous phones on my note 3 I had 3 of them in my wallet.
The poco x3 is nice
Thankfully this pixel 7a you can replace the battery easily
It's just the battery is garbage lol
Honestly replacing the battery on my current phone seems quite doable, thanks to not having a glass back.
Afaik Xiaomi also don't rely on you removing the screen to replace shit on most of their phones.
Well if you have a glass back to remove, it's barely any better. that being said a screen replacement does require you to tear down everything from the back first.
Tbh I considered replacing the battery for my M9T but it's a pita and after I tried out a pixel in the store I realized my m9t ran bad xd
Generally the most likely part to fail next to the battery.
Oh I noticed the jump to my poco x3 pro in terms of speed quite well. It was really at that point I realized how slow my old one was.
I wish I got a poco instead tbh
The newer one
This Pixel 7a is genuinely utterly garbage if you care about battery.
I will say that I would never use one with the stock rom though.
I recently tried it for a bit and I found it quite terrible to use.
Constant nagging, apps in the background not staying alive when they should.
I have not used it enough to really learn it but enough for me to want to return to an aosp based rom with some tweaks.
Wish I could use Micro G but sadly it's incomplete and qr codes on backing apps failing is a big nono for me.
First of all if you are rooted magisk hide and such work perfecly fine.
The problem is Micro G does not have all the google play api's, it's mostly fine but the one 2 different Dutch banking apps use for scanning QR codes was not implemented in Micro G.
Ah
Actually the bank I use myself (ING) does not even care about root. Just the one I access via the app at Work (Knab).
But yea that's easily solvable.
I probably avoid it even if they fix it, chances are reasonably high that such an issue pops up again and it seems considering this one has been open since 2022 it may take quite a while before such a thing gets fixed.
i mean magisk has been able to hide root for years
Definitely, for as long as there have been apps that detected root have there been ways to hide it from them.
Ah....got to love YouTube
Suggesting a video absolutely shitting on the mouse I just got
the G305 is absolutely horrible out of the box
building my first pc soon hella nervous
It's great so far for me
Though the clicks are a bit loud
if you mod it to be heavily customized for yourself, then go back to the original, it might...
Can I mod the left and right clicks to be less loud?
probably?
likely more about resonance in the case, a bit of foam is probably gonna fix it
I wanna use it on lab classes...so it'll need to be less loud :/
Already self conscious about the sound of my laptop keyboard when typing
if you have a laptop, you can use your thumb on the trackpad to click while pointing with the mouse
tho i suppose thats alot easier with the lenovos that ive got at work since they have the clicks above the trackpad
also this is why i was recommending the mx anywhere
the anywhere 3s is 100% silent
for example
Oh...
Good idea
I mostly need the mouse for lab classes cause the touchpad on my new laptop is actual garbage :/
It's large which I like
But the accuracy is not good
And about 1 in every 15 times I boot the laptop, it glitches out, like full on spasm attack , double clicking..holding down left click, holding down right click.... Moving the pointer across the screen in random directions
Takes maybe 3 or 4 reboots to get it back to normal
go into windows and do all the firmware updates
There wasn't any
Well
I did apply it cause the touchpad doesn't work out of the box on Windows
So I had to use my wired mouse and plug it in to the the windows setup
Going back to the smaller touchpad in my previous laptop
It's so fucking good
But almost too small to do any multi-touch gestures :'(
But the accuracy is amazing
does it say windows precision?
I never misclick or anything
Hmmm?
Idk
I don't have Windows in my new laptop anymore
And before you say it.....
No, this isn't a Linux issue
The touchpad was just as garbage on Windows
yea im aware
but also boot up windows and see if there are further firmware updates now
a bunch of laptops take 6 months for all the launch bugs to be fixed
Itโs a โI got an inferior trackpadโ issue
Get a MacBook next time
:)
or a windows precision trackpad
I can just check the website
Got to login to my account and go to the support page to select my device
Then they send me a zip file with a bunch of drivers
That's how I got the touchpad to work on Windows
yea but thats not always the full situation
Once Asahi Linux gets stable enough, I'd consider it
lenovo pushes a ton of firmware updates via windows updates
But then going back to linux would undo that?
also ECM updates
ECM?
the microcontroller that runs the lower level stuff in the laptop
If Windows had a live session you could boot into from USB
Then I'd check for updates
it does
But it just boots directly into installer :/
the difference is the installer and the live boot are different things
it makes the windows installer smaller
How boot into live session?
you make a windows to go usb
rufus supports it tho you have to download the iso direct from microsoft instead of the customized one from the media creation tool
Oh ...
That's an idea for next weekend
Cause I'm not bringing both laptops to my aunt's house
The touchpad is so so damn good on the previous one
I wanna swap them ;_;
will say i havent tried windows 11 to go, it might not work well, ive used a 10 live since release
Got to love how Rufus is Irish
Hek yeah
You can tell cause the website is jank looking and doesn't adapt to phone screens either
I think thats more its a desktop program that is likely to never be needed or useable on a phone
Yeh xd
I just make fun of Irish websites cause most of them are either garbage looking or not fully functioning, or both
rufus is great but ventoy changed my life
Ventoy ๐๐
truly
Idk how it even works but it's magical
ventoy is not particularly compatible with secure boot
its pretty awful for diagnostics
it worked enough for me at least, it booted and whatever but secure boot is not really something im too bothered about
I don't have secure boot on
yea ventoy is ok for your own computer
i just use shims and whatever to make windows 11 happy and linux actually boot with secure boot enabled and go about my day
but windows to go you can plug into any computer and without even power cycling you can boot into your own os
at least if its a windows or mac, linux might need a power cycle
I'm thinking of installing it to the external HDD I have
and chromebooks windows live support is also jank
So I have portable Windows on HDD
thats a really bad idea
Hmmm?
Yeah I know
I just need it to check for driver updates on my laptop
dunno how i lived with it for so long
do you really not have any 64GB+ usb3 drives?
I have a 64gb one
if youre on linux fwupd might support your laptop and i think that does various firmware updates and stuff if you're wanting windows to give you a firmware update
think i saw firmware mentioned earlier
if not ignore me i am delusional
I tried fwupd but it said there was no updates
Idk if that's true or it didn't support my laptop
you are correct quadrilateral but i was more meaning not just the bios
possibly just didn't support because the support is more just actually having something to update
theres a list of supported devices somewhere
I doubt mine is on there
what is it
It's a semi custom OEM build
a
From PC specialist
what is the odm?
Uhh.....
Some place in China I can't find information about even after typing the name and address on the underside of the laptop into Google Maps
pegatron? clevo?
Nope
At least with this one it doesnโt look like the grill is trying to compete with the ge90โs in air intake
why not get one of the more well known odm devices ๐ฆ
do you know the model number your laptop is based on?
Cause I couldn't find a laptop with these specs for the same price as this one
That also had this slimmer form factor
16gb ram
1tb SSD
Core i5 10th gen
Design doesn't look like it's from 2008
โฌ580
Uh... Idk
screen diagonal?
I think 13?
they dont seem to have much 13
maybe 14?
If I can remember my password I can login and check the spec list for this build
Oh
It's 14
well shoot
i searched all the 14s and they seem to have removed all the 10th or even 11th gen laptops from their website
lovely
Ohh
Can perhaps use the way back machine if itโs helpful
50.8Wh
Oh that explains it
that could be done, but i do not have the patience to do that
Understandable
Wayback machine + Chinese website = slow af
the wayback machine is slow in general for unpopular sites
but sites that dont even retain old data means that even finding out the right webpage to search would be a nightmare
Yeah it to be honest took quite a while to load the Apple.com website too, canโt imagine it on lesser known ones
Aha
This is what they sent me to get the touchpad working
my 8th generation laptop had updates in 2022
Also need this to get the SD card reader to work
Funny how both of these work without issue on Linux
yea this advice only applies to reputable companies
just like my laptop's wifi not working out of the box on windows
that sounds untrue from what you are saying
was a fun experience fresh installing to realise i had 0 networking ability
both are very problematic on both oses
Yes
But the touchpad literally didn't work on Windows until I download and installed those drivers
Windows didn't even know it was actually there physically
Device Manager didn't see it
that's unfortunate
yea that means its not a windows precision trackpad
No shit
It's not at all precise
and any trackpad that isnt windows precision on windows is just gonna be pain
no not talking about precision the ability of the device
"windows precision" is a spec for touchpads
Yeah I know xd
I really underestimated the precision trackpad features. Just setup the four finger gestures they work quite well
my external trackpad isnt particularly precise, but since its windows precision its pretty nice to use
100% sure that windows saw it
Touchoad Gestures in Windows are nice
Too bad the laggy jank animations ruin it entirely for any desktop navigation gestures
cant install a driver for a device thats not visible
well you technically can but it doesnt do anything
you can in fact disable animations
and the animations are only laggy on slow computers
I think theyโre alright in windows 11, in 10 I wasnโt too fond of them
Idk
All I know is that I could touch the touchpad and nothing at all happened until I installed the drivers manually
which is not too unsual
also thats not entirely true, you can have a driver package that tells the ecm to enable the device physically
touchpads arent that fancy
they are ps2 devices on almost all laptops
same for the keyboard
only on the garbo touchpads
ah yes synaptic and elan
They aren't....
The animation when switching virtual desktops when using the touchpad gesture, makes the task bar flicker for a second or so
And the wallpaper to move up and then jerk back into place once the animation is done
the garbage companies
its not about the companies tony
its about the drivers they use
if the touchpad pretends to be a ps2 mouse, and interprets everything internally, it will not be a great experience compared to a real windows precision touchpad
elan and synaptics make precision touchpads, but they just use the windows drivers for them afaik
Do Windows Precision touchpads work on Linux?
yep
Ahha
its an "open" standard
Iโll be honest with you, I just split screen / full screen a program so Iโm not too exposed to the animations ahah
the problem is that windows has poor palm rejection
I don't really use the virtual desktops on Windows
They are a UX pain in the ass to use
and palm rejection is up to the os
Not at all a smooth experience
Same I never use them
yea i have 3 fingers to swap between apps
I use them all the time on Linux...partially gnome desktop
4 fingers is media controls
I have this multimedia volume knob which Iโve gotten too used to
Oo nice
ngl never had issues with ps2 touchpads
they all worked smooth af
I have my extra mouse buttons acting as play/pause toggle, previous and next
Still got the change volume with my keyboard though ;_;
the problem with ps2 is you have to perform all the conversion into mouse inputs in "hardware"
the os cant tell where your fingers are
Aha yeah I used to do it too before, volume wheel on my old keyboard eventually broke so it was a bit annoying lol
Oh damn
and yet they are touchpads
I got volume up and down FN layer keys
unless you wanna start fighting them companies of them touchpads
Thatโs cool
the physical device is a touchpad
the computer component that that physical device performs is a trackpad
direct touch sucks anyway ยฏ_(ใ)_/ยฏ
Apparently my laptop has a clickpad
Not a touchpad
Since it doesn't have physical left and right clicks on it
Wtf xd
I tap to click
just like an optical mouse is a camera, but the computer component that device emulates is a mouse
just like old ballmice are 2 rotary encoders but the computer component that device emulates is a mouse
exactly
a trackpad requires a touchpad be a physical component of the device
but the computer doesnt see the touchpad if it is using ps2
it sees a trackpad
actually are there ps2 signature pads?
the computer couldnt care less what it is... it sees an HID device moving a mouse
and thats not the case for a precision touchpad
well not the mouse the cursor
on a precision touchpad, the os is given a set of touch samples
the os then determines what happens from that
Interesting stuff Iโm curious of how it works so well
software
it doesnt work well
its all software
hi there,
is there any technical difference between 60he or TWO he?
you blindly stab at a slab of plastic hoping your hand eye coordination and muscle memory can touch the right thing on your screen
if all you have used is ps2 attached trackpads
you have not used a windows precision touchpad
do not make claims about how well something works if you have not used it please
That just describes screen-less drawing tablets to me :')
I mean gestures like two fingers to zoom, scroll and so on, works pretty alright for me at least
ye they work great for me, even better than the mouse based ones
On a touchpad you start at the center no matter where the cursor is on screen, usually
See the top pinned message by mansen in #๐ฌโgeneral
Yep
TY
that also should be true for any trackpad
tho if you know your cursor is on the right, you might want to start on the right so you can bring it to the left faster
a trackpad with absolute positioning like that would suck man
Maybe itโs just me but honestly canโt tell much of a difference between the new surface / lenovo trackpads and the MacBooks, in terms of accuracy and gestures
imagine having to use that
ive used them actually
it cant be nice but youll probably get used to it
tbf i play osu with absolute positioning on the tablet but thats gotta be different
ye and for drawing its a different story
but if you are doing stuff like general windows usage on a laptop, you can get used to it
you just gotta think of it like a really awful touchscreen
this is true
think of it like an overhead projector
but a touchscreen implies you touch the screen
or an elmo for you newfangled folks
a what
smart board if you are a zoomer?
Iโm pretty sure our smart board in elementary school had absolute positioning
elmo is the old version of the smart board
and the overhead projector predates the elmo
oh yeah wait ik now
An overhead projector (often abbreviated to OHP), like a film or slide projector, uses light to project an enlarged image on a screen, allowing the view of a small document or picture to be shared with a large audience.
In the overhead projector, the source of the image is a page-sized sheet of transparent plastic film (also known as "foils" or ...
yeah
Hah the memories
Anyone else's school never figure out how to get the projector aligned to the screen properly ?
we had one of those for when we had like an assembly
They had the tallest kid in the class come up every time to try and align it, lol
all our teachers were properly taught to do the calibrations
At my school
More than half the image was falling onto the wall behind the screen
oh lol get rekt
in ours they always had the image contorted in the worst way possible
yea our installers here were pretty competent
barely legible
This was in elementary though so kids will be kids
Xd
but it was massive and 1080p so it looked pretty meh anyway since the room was small and you were always close to it
anyways imagine if the smartboard was on your desk, and the projector was still facing the wall
you could eventually get used to it
ye
it also had the big advantage of not requiring any gesture to get from one side of the screen to the other
yeah thats true
with those ancient tiny trackpads it could take 3 swipes to get from one side of the screen to the other
glad to have missed that era
Personally still prefer a touch screen as much as possible
Just find itโs quicker to for example close a program when my cursor is on the opposite site
same
tho i have 7 screens at work and i can reach the 2 of them that are touchscreens
so for the others i kinda need something pointer based
Thatโs fair. I use just the laptop for when Iโm at university so it works out
yea a laptop without a touchscreen is a tragedy
I really canโt get used to it
if you dont want to use it, dont, but dont make me suffer
Yea also I like standing up and working sometimes, and being able to lay the screen more flat like on those yogabooks is very nice
wish i had touch
or a laptop that didnt spin up the fans to ps4 level of noise if i open more than 3 tabs in chrome
besides that its pretty good
This is why having those buttons on the left is better xd
Haha yeah I can relate to that, mine spins up so loud when just idling / charging
MacOS got that part right
Lol, but if I have the cursor on the right it would still be quicker to touch
luckily its silent when im just taking notes and stuff
would be pretty awkward if i had a jet engine equivalent in front of me during a lecture
uh no?
they dont have a touchscreen you can use for it...
The cursor spends most of the time on the left side of the screen
So having the window buttons on the left makes more sense
but only if you put them at the very top
otherwise if you click at the very top of the screen, you wont hit the window buttons
It depends on the application, in visual studio code for example the run code is on the top right, my cursor usually hangs out there most of the time
at the top right corner, you can flick to that location and your cursor will naturally end up on the button
macos, flick to the top left and your cursor will end up on the menu button
Bruh
..... Use a fucking monitor
No wonder your experience was shit
Oooo m.2 SSD slot too
Color price differences...
Also the image makes the black one look less dark than the light black xd
bad photoshop lel
why would they do it like that
also valve is already selling the steam controller 2 and 3 on their store right now
2) https://store.steampowered.com/app/1059550/Valve_Index_Controllers/
3)https://store.steampowered.com/steamdeck
Fuck off xd
๐
actually tho that was their next set of controllers
using very similar tech, and the deck even can play the same games
edge is in MacOS too?
And on Linux
that's amazing
its just a chromium reskin now basically
yeah, current edge is fine as a browser
if it's not "googled" to the ass like chrome
ungoogled chromium is the way for me when I need chromium fork
Yeah
macos allows custom browsers
Edge isnโt too bad but I donโt use it much
yeah
says something that the most effective antivirus on macos is windows defender lel
Defender is on Mac?? Xd
O o
yea defenders performance gets something like 30x worse without cloud
yea i think they rebranded it
weelllllll
windows server does routing
not well, but you could run your entire stack on windows
at work we use windows for about half of the services a home router would be in charge of!
you can run the entire network on windows servers
and loads of networks do that
that was almost standard in the 90s/200s
not important for the target market of enterpirse though
what???
how fkn rich do you have to be to not use nat???
actually nowdays its not even a matter of money, its a matter of when did you get founded
they had multiple class as back then lol
yea only some companies
and thats who ms made ms server for
we were outerino back then
and microsoft wasnt just targeting companies as old as them, they were targeting newer companies too
the entirety of the dotcom bubble was built on nat
people vastly underestimate the use of windows server
the only difference is windows server installs have been sitting and working in server closets with minor maintenance for 10 years
and slowly people migrate some stuff to a different platform like websites and stuff
but theres still a ton of them lying around
Well that's your own fault Su
Moats are best castle defence
DIG A DITCH
why buy anything at launch if that is a concern
It's my first proper launch product haha
Except for maybe the 5600x I got but expected to be cheaper after
Why buy any flagship phone at all?
Actually tbf my last phone I got at launch but it was the opposite
You got a discount
Pixel 7a ain't flagship though
Ok and? I'm still salty about it was my point.
oh I thought you were talking about a recent thing, not something that happened 5 months ago
Nah
I just got reminded because now even the pixel 7 itself is much cheaper than 7a launch price
Cause they are cool
Also flagships last a long time, so I'd buy one just to have the best experience for a long time
At least I don't really buy phones every 2-3 years, and then they are mostly mid-range 300$ ones
But the real question is why upgrade your phone every year?! I donโt
Poco X3 been lasting me a good long time now, not a bad chinesium phone
Really really wanting a Sony Xperia though
Iโll be upgrading my iPhone 13 to an iPhone 15 in August of 2024 ๐ I go with the base models of iPhone, the one with the two cameraโs ๐
Whatever floats your boat
probably about as much of a difference than upgrading every year tbh
at this point at least
I donโt mind either phones.. a phones a phone, itโs all I ever use it for ๐
why upgrade to the 15 then?
Huh, isn't the wifi chip built-in into the SoC on androids?
Why is zenfone 10 wifi-7 compatible but xperia only 6e, both being on snapdragon 8g2
@old marlin the only reason why I upgrade is because itโs free for me to upgrade after the two year contract is up ๐
I've been considering selling my pixel 7a tbh
sony not upgrading to the wifi 7 compatible firmware then
ah, makes sense ig?
Hm, could be
It does ๐
would prob be cheaper to not have a contract that offers that though
Id rather have a slower phone with superior battery
what's the problem with it
Not really @old marlin
Battery
But seriously I'll prolly be getting an Xperia 1 at some point, cause that's the best looking phone, with an amazing screen, 3.5mm jack, great internals
It equates to the same price.. in the long run @old marlin
Fuck all
yea but you are essentially forced to buy a phone every 2 years
instead of when you want to
3-4hr sot if lucky
wtf do you do with it
Discord, Whatsapp and rarely something else.
Iโm not forced, itโs when/if I want to.. ๐ I can say: no I will continue with this phone.. etc.. and still have this phone for another 2 year contract
what drains your battery so quickly then
cause that ain't right
that's not great battery life
but also not as bad as you get it
yea but if you say no it would be more expensive than jst having a contract that doesn't have that function at all
Idk but I'm not the only one
Background apps prolly lol, cal's the type of person to download a fuck ton of shit and not close them
your provider doesn't do that because they are so nice to you
check your battery management tools then lol
Nope
I like contracts though.. @old marlin instead of having to save up for 3 months.. so I can buy an iPhone 15 flat out..
I did in the past and posted all findings here, it was a mystery.
you pay more for that though
Doesnโt matter
if you need to save for 3 months to buy a phone then at least properly save for it
instead of paying more over the course of 2 years
for a phone you admit to not needing
2 years is good for me ๐
smaller battery than an apex pro mini
so far really happy with the A54, has the usual samsung bs tho
aka it just installs 6 apps without asking
you gotta let it install all of them, THEN delete them
otherwise it might reinstall them
@cursive summit I don't even have any games other than chess installed lol
lasts me ~2 days
Background apps are Whatsapp, discord and Gmail.
Oh damn!! Long battery ๐
Pixel 7a has bad idle too
the endurance rating is not how long it lasts in total just fyi
Oh ok.. thank you ๐ ๐ @old marlin
Ye
the a54 is "only" at 25W
Phones should support 100 Watt Fast Charge ๐
the 12T at the top is the same battery capacity as the A54
and charges at "120W"
Controversial take but, I don't think battery really matters
Alsoโฆ canโt wait for phones, batteries etc.. to switch to Graphene.. runs cool. Never overheats, near infinite charge cycles, can charge a phone in 10 minutes from 5% or so to 100% the benefits of Graphene Batteries will be perfect ๐
imo being able to get 2 days is a nice thing
12 hours of charge imo is good enough for a phone to recharge after, let's say a workday
At least I'm not particularly annoyed with battery charge on my Poco at all, holds well and charges whenever necessary
Pocos charge extremely quickly
but miui is just absolutely horrible
Has anyone here heard of Graphene Batteries?! ๐ I have!!
can't get that hot if you charge it quick enough, right?
