The entities that we can render 100000 of are simulated on the gpu
Particles and all that
we do not need sli back
Quad way 5090. nods
That's wrong
don't you just get stutters
With some games? No.
or is this in more modern gamed
That doesn't mean it's not working either
i guess older games made with it in mind will work better
Sli just requires a ton of tuning
No games besides crysis 3 were made with it in mind practically
tuning that noone seems to want to do i guess that's why its been phased out
You can do it yourself using Nvidia inspector
interesting
There are like 5 different settings with various values each you can tune
But also we don't need sli, we need nvlink these days
Wait wait.
Or we need better frame amplification tech
You’re telling me I can get SLI and manually make every game do 95% with Inspector?
Noooo
:(
You can however turn anything that decreases fps with sli into nothing or a minor increase
Why must you give me hope only to rip it away and make life sad.
That's your fault
damn
Poor SLI. :(
Also 100% gpu usage on both gpus doesn't mean sli is helping
Gotta just look at the performance
Oooor
Single 4090
Friendly reminder that 4 of that card still holds the synthetic benchmark world record as of like earlier this year.
Thanks, Kingpin.
Fuckin’ madlad quad LN2 pot extendo daughterboard thing.
proof that bigger number is better
Maybe, but it still doesn't beat a single 4090
What
https://www.3dmark.com/spy/38550290
Single card record
By a single gpu fam
I don't think that's barely lol
guys i have a problem
nothing related to wooting
but just keyboards in general
so my keyboard keeps bugging out
every single day its a coin toss if my a key works or not
is it somthing wrong with my keyboard, software, or my pc
It’s a 7 year old set of GPUs.
It’s still impressive they even can punch near a 4090.
what are your specs on everything
warranty?
mechanical?
pull the keycap, and hit it with compressed air

very very impressive
This will change everything! or will it? Depends on how you will use it!

Home -We're Finally Landing ...
oh yea the npc speech generation
Ayyyyyyyyyyoooooooooo?!
What was that one game that came out recently? That one hyper realistic one that used the scanned building?
This combined with that would be absolutely fucking horrifying.
unrecord
Imagine the AI googling your facebook account and trying to empathize with you to avoid death. We're on track to a really goddamn cursed timeline.
Yeah that. Thx.
we need a heck of a lot more than just ai cores to run good text models
the current flagship ai model is 2.3tb, and you need to operate over the entire model to receive a response
the openly available models are still over 30GB when heavily compressed, and you would have to fit that into vram to use it with gpu ai cores
and when you compress them they get worse
applying ai is not the same as using the ai cores in the gpu
technically everything has ai applied to it since the gpu design themselves are optimized using AI
ye theres probably little to nothing that couldnt be improved
but i suspect its mostly going to be on the development side
making sure that every gpu resource is used properly is a problem for the game engines, it shouldnt be the responsibility of the gpu
this looks ljke the pc i would build
Does the Wootmation tool only support US layout?
Im using German layout but when pressing keys ot set a macro it recognized the keys as if I was using US layout.
wow thats hot
ANOTHER Moondrop IEM
Terrible name aside, I mean, wtf is a "dark saber"
These look nice
An obvious Star Wars reference?
No clue, sorry
There's a special, one of a kind lightsaber that has a black crystal, that turns it into a sort of black hole/negative effect visually.
Uh, alright
That's not a proper saber but, scifi can do whatever they want I guess
Why's it also misspelled, it's supposed to be a sabre
Wish it didnt have that V shape bass
It does look more like a metal sword than a traditional lightsaber yes. I don't particularly like that either.
They've always been called sabers in SW.
saber is correct spelling
As you can prolly guess, I've not seen SW so I really have no clue about any black sabres
Saber is not a thing

Sabre is a weapon, saber is not a word
it is very much a word
Neither are magical space plasma torches that have mass when they strike similar materials 😄
I guess then also theater is not a word
How come it's taking this long to release the 75% (or similar size) version? Not a critic, but as an ignorant in this field I would like to understand why does it take so long to release another version if you already have your switches, software/firmware etc. Does it take this long to tweak all these stuff for the 75% size even though you already have the full model which should, I think, cover to an extent stuff included in the medium model?
Maybe we want to make something more than just a "60HE but more keys"
We'll announce everything when we feel ready.
so 8khz 75% gotcha
Why settle at 8, when we have processors doing infinitely more?
Today 1khz, tomorrow 1 jiggahertz!
this is the way
But what if I just want the current performance but at 75%?
Maybe I don't feel like paying more for x features because I might not need them so why can't I access a "base" model?
Then you'll have to wait and see what we announce either way.
I see thank you! Will be waiting then 😄
i have an external number pad
Even if it’s just a new size without anything else new, having full-size doesn’t mean much, you still need a new pcb, new mold, new QC etc.
for extra keys etc.
or arrow keys
its nice being able to have it on left side of keyboard too
much better than the right
can still use mouse and use the numpad with left hand nicely
it's going to be so fast, it'll predict your inputs before you press the keys
it's like autocorrect, but for FPS movement
truly a revolutionary feature that everyone will love
I was thinking more of an 8% 75khz keyboard
fair option for the elderly
@ashen spindle A really weird leak came out today
Saying that contrary to Kopite's claims, T239 is not Switch 2 SoC
Nintendo is using T254
Which is funny cause that SoC doesn't exist, and for a good reason, it's based on Atlan
Atlan that Nintendo canned 2 years back and now are working on Thor
Apparently Nvidia thought that Atlan wasn't good enough, canned it internally, and just gave it away to Nintendo, and they took it
I find that not really believable but, could be?
I'd believe it
Cheap out on hardware
Cheap out?
Atlan's top of the line of whatever Nvidia still has out right now
When Thor comes out properly, obviously not
But Atlan's far better than Orin
If Nintendo somehow got Atlan
Then they are on the same hardware as PC market is
TSMC 5nm, Ada Lovelace, up to date ARM cores
Aha
Like, that'd be best case scenario for Nintendo
And considering Atlan was canned in like 2021, they could have that hardware running
But I really doubt it, Nintendo's most likely on T239 and that's Orin, good performing cores, but already getting oldy
They'll pick orin cause cheaper and therefore profit
They'd don't care about performance since all their first party games have low requirements
Except Pokemon......
If A Hat In Time can run flawlessly on Switch
Why can't Pokemon???
Cause resins
Well
.... The loading times for Hat are atrocious
Whatever Nintendo chooses
Takes like 3 minutes to load into a level
But once you do it's smooth
Orin is more than capable for FHD high fidelity gaming
Also.....
How slow is the Xbox 360 slim HDD????
As slow as you are when standing up from a chair
I mean it's a 2,5" mechanical disk. Welcome to HDDs
Cause I remember the loading times for Split Second being horrific on Xbox back in the day
But on my steam deck, loading from SD card, it takes like 10 seconds
So wtf
Nah....
I'm good with SD card
I have 512gb
A hat in time won't load from SD card for me
Which is strange
I mean, if you want to sit on outdated hardware, that's fine
I don't care
The loading times aren't any slower than the internal SSD
Installing takes longer...I usually install to the SSD then transfer to SD card
If I have enough space on SSD for that
Idk haven’t seen anything about Atlan so it doesn’t sound believable yet
Would be basically top end hardware for now
No I mean about it being used for Nintendo
Switch 2 gonna be 500 bucks if they use this stuff
And there's no problem with that

Yeah
Desk is best value possible for PC hardware rn
uh... oops, you weren't supposed to know that
That article is from 2022 so it’s missing known info
Idk if I'd buy it
The only thing I use my switch for now is mariokart
No longer play Mario maker cause my online subscription ended
Mario maker....
Pay 60 bucks for the game
Then 6 bucks each month to actually play it
Where is that leak
GG Nintendo
4chan or something
Wasn't your typical 4chan post
Read like someone was really either into it, or fanfictioning
4chan gets leaks there from time to time so I don't really mind the place, other than the bigotry and other scum
old rumor actually
and the 234 is basically a cut down 239
I keep up with the rumours
And not one of them ever said that Nintendo is going to use Atlan
haha
Hall effect joycons with no drift?
Top end hardware?
1080p OLED on base model (kinda cope here)
500$ is not a bad price for that
ROG Ally is more than that, and would be technically inferior
Idk how much the Lenovo handheld is sold for, but prolly a lot more than 500$ as well
They won't hall Effect
Joycon drift works in their favor since it makes people buy more joycon
uh... no, it worked against them, because they have to fix it for free
Pretty sure the reputable leaks said it was confirmed
So that's not a debate
Oh....they fix it for free now???
SoC is the big question where T239 is the answer
But I want more so I am willing to cope for Atlan
Nintendo have a patent for a goo thing for controller stick so maybe ? 😅
It's been like one or two years that they offer to repair it for free
O
I never got mine fixed, since they wanted money.
Free repairs are not global
I need to figure out how to get mariokart and it's dlc working on my steam deck
Imma sell my Switch
But Lana. That's piwacy
Then why doesn't every single card have like 64GB of VRAM
hm... odd, because afaik EU and NA got covered
I guess it's the controllers/interconnect bandwidth or whatever
Memory itself might be cheap but it's not the only thing
Lol
EU definitely wasn't covered in practice.
I reached out and they refused to do it for free. I could have probably forced them to via small courts, but cba.
Sold it a while after for a small profit, since it was the old moddable version.
Yay, I own one with a software jailbreak
I have found the patent for the magnetic goo of Nintendo on a website, if someone is interested to look at it :
I can give you the link from where I downloaded it 😅
lucky you... i got mine shortly after the v2, because nothing was appealing to play on the Switch till XB3 came out#
Or.. hall effect joycons
Although if they have their own patent, that's less licensing costs so, eh
Yeah but it seems like they don't want to do that 😅
Hmmm
There's many website on that patent so it's seems like it's true
Reminder that patents are not always ever used
True 😅
Oh also, sorry forgot to ask you before, will old versions be able to benefit from these improvements or you will need to buy them again in v2?
What improvements?
Physical differences can't necessarily be moved over. New switches? Sure. Things like the screw in stabilizer support on the 60HE Module? No. Those would require a new PCB.
Oh yeah that's what I meant: will the changes be hardware or software?
Or both
I suppose on the hardware side it's about better qol and feeling improvements
Alright thank you for replying my questions 😄
Oh look more corroborated slides that show ARL sucks, rip
But but Quin, I saw a tomshardware article saying 14900KF butchers 7800X3D and 13900K in performance
How can this be if Arrow sucks?? 😳
Because the 14900k is not arrow
14 is raptor refresh
Mobile 14th gen?
15
Ah
End of next year
@proper wadi thought I would take the JS question here instead of the uwu channel 🤣
- It's got hidden control flow which makes unexpected error management hard (this isn't just a JS problem, but modern languages avoid this)
- Npm is a mess, node_modules grows what feels like exponentially
- There are no standardised tools for code formatting, bundling, or linting. All third party, and some change all the time. It's a neverending battle of new frameworks coming out every week which leads to this funny website https://dayssincelastjavascriptframework.com/
- TS is great, but it's an extra build step for an interpreted language and in large projects leads to "type gymnastics", JSDoc is also great and helps avoid type gymnastics, but it bloats your codebase with comments.
- Weird quirks all over, you'll find some good examples online of people doing NaN === NaN = false or something else https://github.com/denysdovhan/wtfjs#-examples
- Module system is a nightmare, what is it? AMD? CommonJS? ESModules?
- JS is used for things JS should not be used for. I think someone created an OS with it somehow. It's not a fast language (but then again it isn't slow, compared with python)
- Const is not really const. It just means the reference is constant, but the values contains within can be mutated.
Could probs think of more but that's what I got!
Not reading all of that, just ask AI about it
Ah it's cool was in reply to waddlesworth in the #archived_wooting_uwu channel asking what's so bad about JS
Mods pushed yesterday to keep the uwu channel away from tech talk so I thought I would continue it here
i mean 2,3,4 and 6 are sort of solved when bun becomes actually usable
Yeah bun seems cool!!
wtfjs isnt really a wtf but more easy ways people may misunderstand type coercion usually
because most people just dont understand weakly typed languages like js
for 1, 7 and 8 i do agree although 7 is sort of a point where some projects benefit from the slight performance hit but trading it for an easier coding experience
Yeah, to be fair I don't know if it's a con but some of those just don't follow what you would think should happen leading to more bugs, even for people who have used JS for a while but it's not common anyway to have code inherit a bug from those quirks
I code TS full-time, and when I use something like Go or Rust I just 😍
I will always stand by python being great for what it's great at, gluing compiled libraries together and data analysis. It's got the tools and is really easy to work with, and I think will grow more with this AI boom going on
Hopefully one day Deno or Bun become the main choice, they really feel like what JS should have been like from the start
Or node, not so much JS
5 is just people being stupid
NaN == NaN should return false that is the IEEE standard
thats the whole point of the repo
educating people on how JS works and different standards
I don't disagree, but I also think a lot of these are as a result of design decisions that lead to a lot of the advantages that JavaScript has.
The main one that stands out to me is "JS is used for things that JS should not be used for."
I agree, but that's not the fault of the language. I'm not saying that JavaScript is the be all and end all and the only language you need to know. I'm saying that for a lot of cases, it is the best choice.
Yeah you're right, sometimes in my mind I forget node is NOT JS, and the above list was more of a gripe I have with how people have used JS today rather than how it could have been used. :/
What sucks is so much is done for node, that moving to bun or deno for a far better developer experience is difficult, especially for companies. Even with npm interop out of the box, is that what you want? Will it truly work flawlessly?
I guess to summarise, the JS ecosystem is a big mess that needs cleaning! It's got so much potential for improvement!
A good part of that list reminds me why I like zig or typed languages that being implicit type conversions
never understood the shit terminology of nodejs
Implicit type conversions just lead to bugs and make the code worse
it's just js, but on server
It's a pretty common occurrence for my personal projects to do a prototype or a proof of concept in JavaScript and node, to see if what I'm trying to do is even possible, only to build it in Rust later.
That was true of my Wooting overlay lol
at least youre not prototyping in python
what's wrong with python
😂
nobody cares if it's slow, when it's just a prototype
Main thing I don't like about python is the tabbing, I can never follow along and if I want to make something short or a one liner, I can't
Python at least has explicit type conversion
this is very true
Yeah I have never been a fan of the tabbing :/
so does js
Probably because I am very used to not havig it
I wrote something in Haskell once, that was an adventure
python also has implicit type casting
Must be minor
Python does not turn arrays in to numbers
doesn't js also have Number() and String() funcs?
JS does to an extent, if you consume directly from a lib it will give you types. But things you define beyond that are all any, I think // @ts-check can be used to force the TS server to run line-specific ts checking
yes you use the constructors or .toString on most types and classes
Gah I am spending more time talking about JS than coding it for work rn 🤣
???? i havent seen js turn arrays into numbers
Have you read wtfjs the explanations where that stuff got turned in to numbers
thats the least specific question you could have asked
do you mean array equallity?
like the only scenarios i can imagine you mean is where arrays get type coerced into bools which have a standard int representation of 0 and 1
Typewise, python is a lot more sane than js
well yes but js can be sane if you know whats going on
Other than earphones why does this exist
Compatibility with old devices of sorts?
Anything you already own that has lightning?
Plenty of accessories for the iPad and phones. Photography, Storage and so on.
Other than earphones, everything else would require it's own USB a to lighting to charge
I must be tired cause I read photography with a similar sounding type of graphy
Who said anything about charge? Data.
Only good vibes here.
Mansen's getting it, proof right here
True I guess?
But again
You'd just wack in a normal cable lol
Wow shit ok, MacBook doesn't have a USB a port, but still id imagine most have adapters etc or even USB c to USB lightning, pretty much all my cables are that these days.
Apple pencil
there is a usb c version of those btw
it's just there for backwards compatability

better to have it as an option then to not have it
That charges wirelessly or directly into the iPad you use, if the iPad has USB C it doesn't support gen 1 in the first place
It’s there to sell you an adapter for 30 that costs them 5 to make its simple as that
Apple pen gen 2 doesn't charge via wire
Gen 1 only works on older devices or ones with lightning
gen 1 does though
Yes but they only work with lightning iPads and older ones lol
No?
Oh shit it does but only the pro
there was no gen 2 pencil when it came out
Like what
An iPhone up till now
And your original cable is gone but you still have usbc cables
no fr there are a lot of weird accessories
Then buy a new cable instead of spending loads? Xd
good to have the option to at least have an adapter as a stop gap solution
Or if you just have a usbc cable and don’t want to carry both
Idk I guess
bruh
You’re trying to find an issue that doesn’t exist
That's why I asked
thing plugs in direcly
Ah that makes sense
It’s an adapter, it’s apple so it’s expensive
Ye I wasn't aware of that
not for using a lightning charging cable
That's fair then
price is still bs
but it is apple
to be fair
all manus overcharge for their cables
wip
a bog standard c to c cable from samsung is still 30-35€
But why are we buying overpriced cables?
Cheapest C-C I see here is like 2$
idk
are we
with apple it is for bs lockout chips
and to get the true apple experience of it desintegrating a year in
I give Apple a lot of shit where it's due, mainly obscene repairability standards
But aren't iPhones typically well known for being relatively sturdy?
Well, they last, at least
no I mean the cable
the cables have always been shit
they are made out of the softest shit rubber
Tbf for how flimsy my Samsung 3.5mm dongle is
that is why people wrap them in so much electrical tape
It's literally like 2mm in thickness
It held up for over a year already
Impressively shit, that thing
Or.. shittily impressive?
yea
last dnd session I was at one player had to charge his iphone
and pulled out a cable with like 15-20cm of tape on each side

Apples USB C dongle is quite resistant also
But their cables are garbage
Even third party ones
sturdy? lol, i remember when i got my S22U, suddenly forgot it on my trunk and went off driving. It fell to the ground, got run over by a car and still worked. Sure, the display didn't survive, but i was still able to control everything with the pen
the fucker who ran over my phone even maneuvered in such a way so his tire would hit my phone
Well, S22U uses Gorilla Victis
And S23U is on Victis 2
I'd expect those 2 to survive everything
iPhone doesn't do Gorilla glass so I'm not sure what protection they do have
But I have heard that Apple phones at least last
anyways, after 2 weeks in repair and a new display for 200€ it was fine again
Because their Apps have to run smooth on a lot of generations. It's basically in their Dev ToS
every dev has to make sure that the app they're creating runs smooth as possible on x amount of generations of iPhones
and i know a lot of app devs being pissed about that optimization shit, because their stuff's made to run on the higher end versions, but in order to comply with the ToS they have to make it a smooth experience for the lower end models too
resulting in a smooth, but bad experience on the higher end models
Apple phones last ages
I think what's happenng is a really interesting double edged sword
Just the battery doesn't
Nintendo from what I have gathered is really interested in competing with the Steam Deck
My iPad 2015 is still somewhat going well!
They want games ported to their platform
It's kinda got a lot of abuse though
iOS is also now a valid platform to port games to
My mum has been using an iPad since 2013 xd
What's going to happen, and why I am really interested how companies will deal with this
You now have so many software/games releasing
That will get ported to Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, Android, Switch, PlayStation, Xbox
Like, that's a LOT of work
Only way I can see all of that work getting done efficiently is to cut corners
not really
consoles are a special case since they are such low power but phones have different specs so that starts to be more like a pc or steamdeck where you just get different presets
and any smaller title that uses an established engine can just port it easily
if its some RE game the expected sales would warrant a separte team so no reaons to cut corners
With Mod Tap, are you able to bind arrow keys for both tap and hold for the same key? I.e. just completely remap 4 keys to function as normal arrow keys?
Oh no, too bad Levovo made a better Steam Deck.
Honestly the Legion Go is looking frankly excellent. Integer upscaling unlike the rest of the handhelds, nice hardware specs, QOL a stuff like Hall effect joysticks, and the right controller can also be a mouse.
Why even buy the ROG Ally.
Honestly? Mostly agree.
But their Legion line has been weirdly consistent.
Idk what it is. Nothing else they do is great except for those laptops and it appears the Go.
it's the only handheld PC I'm kinda looking forward to. I'm waiting for benchmarks and release (like any reasonable person SHOULD) before I make a judgement
hope linux will run good on it. also hope for a good audio chipset
Dave takes you a guided tour of a new Insider Preview build of Windows 2023 (Windows 11 23H2). Features include Windows Copilot, a new File Explorer, compressed RAR, TAR, and GZ support, virtual disc management, and much more.
i hope that's not a joke
But I do hate win11 taskbar and startmenu
I really think they dropped the ball hard with 11
It doesn't look good, far less functional
And they are abandoning it already lol
Win12 in 2024 apparently
what kinda aspect ratio is that guy using
4:3?
and then it changes lol
it looks like KDE lol
are ms ever gonna give (you) up on those godawful ribbon menus?
Try using a normal menu, ribbons are a godsend
Wait, right, they replaced my explorer
I use all sorts of menus all the time. ribbons should be a personal quick button area
This is genuinely awful by the way
Probably second worst transgression after right click menu
Then I'll go with taskbar and windows start menu for third
I gotta hand it to MS, I prefer this over the old ribbons
I genuinely really like this
This is easy to understand, easy to navigate
And I don't have to remember/hover over every single item to be like "what does this do?"
Which Win11 is INSISTING on forcing on you
it looks like a vomit torrent of icons to me, I wanna minimize it!
A lot of Windows 11 is just unnamed icons
aesthetics vs easy usability
I will forever prefer usability
But I also like it to look good
i never use the top buttons so
But if it's unusable, like Windows 11 continues to force on me unusable, hard to navigate features, then kindly, bugger off
I actually did try Windows 11 debloated and that was literally just Windows 10
But.. really barebones lol
right / left clicking kinda more intuitive for me
wait for LTSC
Tons of shit just broke cause whoever debloated it, removed a crap ton of functions that some apps use
But that was the best, and honestly pretty great, windows 11 experience
Mainly cause it was just windows 10 lol
its a VM, and at the start of the video he is zoomed into the bottom right corner for showing off copilot better
never been happy with user-modded bindows, there is always something broken with them
Which is sad cause those are by far the most, ironically, usable
But they break and become hard to use
If linux could game everyone would use it
Lol no
it can, it's just harder to get there
If Linux wasn't a pain in the ass and require terminal and googling absolutely everything for 3 hours to make something work, then more people would use it
Windows doesnt?
Windows is a lot more friendly
tbh i couldn't list a lot of stuff i would change in Windows
like it just works and does the stuff i wanna do
https://www.dexerto.com/tech/valve-employee-reveals-stupid-expensive-scrapped-vr-console-plans-2294731/ @ashen spindle DECKARD CANCELLED
Not every version of linux is arch
bruh learn to read
(that was clickbait to piss you people off, it's not deckard)
But hey "vr console" is basically Deckard
no that was vader
Is there a way to disable that black dot in the close button on MacOS??
Warning: found orphan
thanks to valve, linux gaming is a legitimate option now at least. before steam shipped Proton, gaming on wine was awful. used to play WoW this way in 2008. what a stupid idea that was
Yis
probably with some 10€ app
gnome is 💪
So that's the most unusable one, got it
okay you're trolling
If Lana likes something, it most likely, pretty probably, sucks
nah
On linux you need to setup your security unlike windows
I like Android, dont you use Android too?
That is literally factually, and logically, correct. Linux is the most unsafe OS that exists probably
Even less safe than Android
Linux's whole problem is that it's open source
Easy to find exploits
And then you rely on the linux foundation to do anything about them
But then all the damn skin makers also have to implement those
So there's a whole process that takes way too long that could just be an update like Android, iOS, Mac, Windows, etc do it
Results of Major Technical Investigations for Storm-0558 Key Acquisition
and you trust MS to be on that
But fym, you shouldn't give anyone the root key
That will surely fix the problem right
Just don't give it to anyone
(that's a kappa right there)
Which I was hoping for, cause it was so stupid it shouldn't be anything but sarcasm
BRACE YOURSELVES
That gif is way too big, it needs to go
you know what, I have more important stuff to do
And a hottie to boot so
hah respectable, take care
just dont connect pc to internet
Doge proposed
I'll best man in the wedding
So, it's not faster
It's just overclocked lol
yea its the same uArch
Ryzen is far more efficient this generation right?
Well, for a good few years now
Intel seems to run really hot, although Zen 4 also raised TDP up quite a bit so, not sure if they still hold efficiency crown
ive been on intel since forever perhaps ill check out amd next time, they seem to be doing quite well now
running hot means nothing
you can run hot while using 1/5 the power
lul
Okay, perf/W
Windows and linux are the same security wise. If you install a malicious application it will ruin your day.
All of these security problems are all from the same root cause, and will effect users of both systems equally
In order for someone to exploit legacy code from some application that you gave root permissions to would require them to already have access to your computer
I can only assume the reason no one really cares to solve the problem is because its a non-issue
I think you fail to understand that malware propagates in more ways that just install
Like how?
Javascript exploits, network worms, email hooks
There are lots of ways to target a computer without a download
office macros
And there you are all on your own and counting on the raw security of the platform
Linux is just very much the weakest
man macos has been tempting me more and more, if only it worked for stuff i need hah
How can you know that if windows isnt open source?
IT'S CANCELLED BRUV
I'm sorry?
Did you read the article that Fym linked
should add that Fym takes this stuff way too seriously
I tend to go with what she says
because she knows more than I ever will
You arent the only one who studies it here lol
You know, you would say that until you give Fymrin your IP address and get a network exploit sent your way lol
And then get a backdoor installed cause fym got your root access
Im not using legacy systems
Just delete root account lol
Thats literally the whole point of root lol
You do realize that is a major vulnerability waiting to be exploited?
which is great until someone else has root
hear me out
sometimes having checks and balances is ok
Yes, thats why no one uses the root account and instead creates a user
Root should only exist in a sandbox environment, and then it should be removed after build
That is literally hard-baked into the OS
Unless it's a sandbox then whatever
Then how do you modify system files without root?
Or access things that require that privilege?
So just dont use your computer? Ok lol
Garbage os that completely restricts what you can do
For a very good reason?
It's not meant for you to tweak it cause that is not safe
I dont trust a company enough to not allow tweaks
Im not trying to have ads that i cant disable on my desktop...
Ur funny
You are talking to someone that works in cybersecurity, studies cybersecurity, and is obsessed with cybersecurity
If you don't believe what a person that sacrifices 20 hours of their life a day doing says then, I'm sorry
Hes too obsessed. He things a little thing that already requires an attacker to have access is a problem
It's a she, mind
She's *so obsessed that she thinks the user is an attacker
It cant be a problem if you just dont get hacked
you're making quite the bad sell tbf, if someones credentials are just "they are studying the field so shut up" what would the need to study for
You cant just access any system with its ip. Hacking just doesn't work like that
If you could no one would be using computers
There's an amount of social engineering that needs to take place to make a user download a malicious application
I am pretty sure you can, it's just a hard way of doing things
Brute force, of course you can
Send someone tampered packets, if you don't have a proper firewall, they will go through
Just keep trying a password
and yet even people that run channels on scammers and baiting them etc. can fall victim to it so nothing really prevents that
so its not as simple as just saying just dont get hacked
more input from people who have way more expertise (and time on their hands) than me
Tbf I am scared shitless nowadays to open any PDF just cause any of them can be infected
Or virtually any attachment
Exactly. Dont open attachments, or files from people you dont trust. Crazy concept
Hey check out my game: "game.exe"
Or uh, your bank sends you an account statement?
Yes. Its almost like i know my banks email...
if your bank sends you something you go to the banks website manually and check just never via the email
if they even send you mails
Yeah, thats the best practice
but even that isnt perfect
every email from my bank has been "hello, we are your bank"
if DNS hijacks happen and you think its your bank you cant do much etc.
Have you ever heard of "email spoofing""
Any scammer can really easily masquerade as an official bank email address
You check the email handle, it's an official one, you think it's legit, click on the pdf, and you just got hacked
And have no knowledge of it
Crazy. If only it worked exactly like that
They stole your cookies, other information you have stored, etc, and they have your passwords
That is literally how that works lol

With all this Plex bs going on with shutting down servers I might just buy a refurbished Dell and self host
They keep shutting down servers that profit
I don't wanna use jellyfin because of my data
I use jellyfin and it's amazing lol
Had some issues with .mkv files, it's like 50/50 chance if it ever detects them
If it allowed me to migrate my data and keep it up to date I would
Plex has my data via my account no matter the server :/
Why wouldn't you selfhost
@solar hinge can I join your Plex server xd
I don't want to
Amateur
I used to self host years ago
But I can't be assed with the physical hardware but also electric consumption.
I also abandoned torrenting years ago
So are we just ignoring Spectre completely then?
Or like the recent log4js vuln.
You actually have the most brain dented take I think I've ever seen.
"Dw guys, Root is fine on a consumer OS so long as we ignore privilege escalation, day1 vulns, people being stupid and not updating, broken router firmware, physical attacks, and general entry level cybersecurity tomfoolery"
What's that? Some routers ship with ports open? I'm sure that's not a recipe to get your shit broken into because privilage escalation has never existed for Linux. If you don't know shit about cybersecurity then don't make a claim about security, especially when it's one you can disprove with all of the mental might of 30 seconds in google.
A bit rude but gets the point across
Here, just to nail the point home further because being an asshole can be fun, we have Phind, a GPT 4 model, can apparently does your future job better than you do, Black!
What a goddamn miracle the modern internet is.
AI also just gives you exploits in general
I'm ok being rude to people handing out actively stupid and dangerous information. I do the same with morons that go 'BuT oLd CarS aRe TaNkS'.
It's never been easier for a rookie to do damage nowadays
Exactly.
So when some idiot comes along spewing the most brain damaged information you've ever heard that can be corrected with 30 seconds on google then you have to wonder if that's just being foolish or actively malicious.
Either way it doesn't deserve any respect of any kind.
there was a fairly recent vulnerability that allowed anyone to spoof the dmarc checkmark
so, good for you!
Shit Hollow.
You can't do that to him.
He'll get lost in the 40 seconds it takes to find that vuln documented on Github.
Even mentioning dmarc to someone that thinks Linux is actually secure. Goddamn you'll give him panic attacks.
I think they thought that just saying something they thought was right, they'd look smart
that’s fine i’ll link it

They forgot that half the people here are really into IT in general
Or, well, just didn't know
Except it's just USB2.0 so that's sad
It's really solid.
Phind will happily write full programs and it's internet enabled.
also, there was this cool thing called wannacry
That toggle is prolly just that feature that OpenAI charges money for, whose name I forgot lol
BRO.
honestly, my favorite example
Oi but that was a windows issue
See? Linux is safe
EternalBlue on Linux doesn't exist COPIUM
Oh kek dw, Linux hasn't ever had ransomware before.
Yeee. It's S tier.
Phind good.
Did some website steal the code interpreter function for free?
It'd be stupid if it couldn't talk about cybersecurity.
Can confirm it is.
Like it does all the shit GPT 4 does since it gives you free access.
And it'll do wack ass stuff.
Yeah but it still runs on 3.5 unless you pay up
No it runs on GPT 4.
Uh, no?
so that’s the world’s first i can actually do
thank you for suggestions
You pay for more uses per hour, it does GPT 4 by default.
It's very much paid per their own pricing plan
Hmm. Odd.
I assume it's 3.5 unless you pay up
I have an account but I don't pay for it, I'm getting GPT 4 responses.
Fym, don't be an Avanna
Light mode, opinion invalid.
what a phraud
Aeon said it's 4 per standard, I doubt that unless Phind wants to lose money lol
Those 4 API calls are expensive yo
They're not that bad.
Was scrolling earlier stuff. Not sure preaching to someone who probable mainly browses, games and maybe edits documents in a single user environment about the merit of sandboxing is relevant 😅
Oh god you literally lana'd yourself
someone's brain is fried?
She looked at light mode once and got brain fried.
Now you can imagine what happens to Vex.
Anyways, I saw that some people create their own chatbots in a website of sorts
And those run on all kinds of models, GPT-4, the google one, etc
That's prolly the best one
Bro please I'm currently doing some LLM experiments for shits and gigs and actually like 95% of the models are for porn and chatbots.
It's so scuffed.
What else they'd be for?
Idk man porn is pretty useful
are you implying porn isn’t useful?
What I want is basically just wiki.js but I can ask the bot what I want to know and it'll find me all of the places for the stuff.
imagine having any porn plot you could wish for on demand
Give me that.
this is truly the 21st century dream
Kek
isn't the micro$haft AI bretty good for that
For what, wikis?
getting you links and stuff. at least I heard
O_O
With that non elaboration you have elaborated.
MIssion failed, we'll get em next time.
DXM
Any AI will just give you the links that they used lol
OpenAI with online on, Perplexity, Bing etc
Bing AI is weirdly good.
Also annoying as shit sometimes
I mean it runs GPT-4 so why it wouldn't be good
work fried brain?
And it's free unlimited GPT-4 so that's fun
That the fuckers are also building into Windows for no goddamn reason
I mean...
"Turn off the fuhkin antivirus I'm trying to install things from the high seas"
"AYE AYE, CAP'N"
It's possible.
It can be done.
can it seduce you while impersonating Bill Gates?
Nah just disable the real time protection and set up a whitelist for this specific folder
It's not that bad anymore.
Way better than the awful Windows 7 days. Fuckin' yikes.
Kind of been looking into that whole endpoint thing courtesy of @dawn epoch
Heard that cloudflare gives free endpoint protection lol
Lmao no, what? I can think of like 3 AV solutions that're legitimately better than Windows Defender.
Malwarebytes, Hitman, and debatably Kapersky.
But that's a more like last minute yolo.
I am on that kapusky thing
malwarebytes is the only one I'd recommend tbh
Kaspersky is absolutely insane
Like, Defender would literally always scream and delete files it deems remotely bad
Malwarebytes is the main driver for AV, then you run Hitman if things go sideways since that thing is basically a nuke.
Kaspersky is just like, yeah, whatever
Never flags anything unless something is really off
That's not a good AV feature, buddy.
That for me is a good feature cause Defender has too many flags set up
And I can't be bothered to fight it constantly
I'd only recommend touching Kapersky because it's good at killing stuff. But like... in that case use Hitman and Malwarebytes.
Wombo combo.
Like, always getting screamed at by Defender cause "HackTool:Win32/AutoKMS" was detected
And then fighting it cause it keeps autodeleting the damn thing
Like, fuck off, it's a hacktool, it's there for a reason
hahahaha
...? You use hacktools for KMS? Do you not know about the funny powershell script?
Windef doesn't see it.
I've moved to that for Windows
I'm pretty sure I can still do the 2 commands I used to activate my win10 LTSC from memory
But for Office I still use KMS
tru dat
Because Google Suite and ObsidianMD exist.
Why the flying fuck am I ever using Office when Obsidian, holy shit.
It's basically half notepad, half IDE.
A few thousand plugins as well. Can do pretty much anything related to notes.
if you aren't afraid to run chinese software, WPS office had far and wide the best compatibility with microsoft formats for me
Does this even do spreadsheets?
Like for example you can get Obsidian to do GPT 4 API calls.
Presentations?
Mhmm.
Prolly my fav thing about it is I can tell it to summerize an entire project into a new note and GPT 4 will give me the cliff notes.
Then there are plugins to link with various APIs like YTs etc so you can pull data from basically anywhere.
If that is any good for writing 50 page scientific docs then I might give it a shot
I mean yeah. It is.
Like what do you need to write scientific docs?
'Cause if it's a function someone does on a notepad then odds are pretty goddamn high someone has made a plugin for it.
GPT 4 API calls then.
Indeed
You can ask it to do GPT 4 shit, that includes expanding on detail. :p
it isn't
Yay.. guess who's back
Back again
shady's back
tell a friend
@prisma cragbanger
...
r/tihi
now I know which horseless carriage I will show up to the next wootup in
no issues off roading in this hah
um...no suspension
and unfortunately, the driver doesn't have as much dexterity to redistribute their weight as I'd like for such a size
Suspension is for the weak.
Are you trying to sell chrome os? Your take sounds like the chrome os ads
When you sounded like you were the person speaking in the ad
Classic.
My advice is go learn the field before trying to give out deliberately awful advice. Or do you not have anything to say about the rest of the conversation?
For example, how exactly do you respond to Spectre existing?
Stay safe from viruses with the HP Chromebook x360 14.
Learn more at https://www.google.com/chromebook/features/#security
'Cause that only got somewhat patched on Linux at first and it could be used to do priv escalation, that thing that's apparently harmless because root is fine.
Sooooooo...
Like are you good at cybersecurity when you ignore half of the security?
gotta say, that ad aged pretty badly
Bro thinks root being able to do anything on an end device is actually smart, half cyber no security.
Gotta go raw 😂
the last time I did that, there was blood and someone crying out in pain
we do not go raw anymore
It was the sysadmin when you ran rm -rf /, poor guy.
Gotta sudo for that one
If you're in root you don't.
Dw mate, cybersecurity isn't real, you can just do sudo su forever.
No ones dumb enough to be root user after setup
And yet it's kept around being a good thing by your logic? Interesting take.
How else are you gonna update the files that require root access?
That's the thing, in a well built OS you don't need to.
The whole point is those files get updated when the OS updates.
Thats purely theoretical and you know it
Updates are theoretical?
So are we pretending Windows or OSx or BSD don't exist?
I wish, updates are cancer but they are pretty much mandatory
A system that doesnt require updating because its perfect
There is no such system and that's literal brain rot.
That is never going to be a thing
Linux is also not a system that's perfect by any means either
Say you make your perfect system and I go ahead and make a better thing you don't have, shit guess I just ruined your perfect system.
No system is perfect, that is why there needs to be some way for a system to update its privileged files
Yes it's called an OS update, Windows has had them for all of Windows.
^
It's almost as though we certify these things specifically so a bad actor can't be a dickweed.
Who knew.
There's a reason there's billions invested into hashes and hashsum checks lol
Better hashes, better security
And like shit if you want to run an update that isn't certified you can specifically just turn off checksum for that update.
That's how core mods are done in windows.
Like there are ways.
It's just the base user doesn't get to fuck around at all times.
I can still delete system32 so fuck you
Hackerman
Why are we acting like linux is the only one with this problem then?
Cause Linux is the only one with this problem
Because none of the other ones have priv escalation from the user.
Last i checked all my updates are verified on linux
That's not what we were talking about
^
Problem is, is that Linux just allows anyone to tamper with the kernel
That's not supposed to be allowed
Linux is the only OS that allows the user to escalate and then modify everything in the entire OS. A bad actor needs to get into your account and then Ring0 is fucked. That's a really stupid vuln.
Someone cant tamper with the windows kernel?
No.
It's designed for you to need to actually do that with admin.
Which the base user can't do.
Windows doesn't have sudo into admin which lets any user fuck around.
Only Linux does that and it's why Linux for end users is the worst take imaginable.
Yes it can
Windows allows just enough open source for it to be fully functional and moddable to the extent that user needs
No it can't. Windows has UAC which is not the same thing as sudo.
The critical components are closed source
I can escalate a non-admin to admin in windows with an admin password the same way i do in linux
ok, hold on, wtf did i just read?
Windows UAC is designed to let the user install files in more areas or fuck around, but it doesn't let them break the kernel or tamper with Ring0.
Comparatively nothing, he means.
sys would be something else
So my anticheats that ring0 with only uac are what?
but admin?
it is too early to be getting drunk it is too early to be getting drunk it is too early to be getting drunk it is too early to be getting drunk it is too early to be getting drunk
Kernel anticheats?
nah, go hard
i'm contemplating about getting drunk due to the stupid shit posted here as well
Jesus fuck. Those Anticheats work because the code is verified and able to be installed in Ring0.
That's the entire point of code certification.
Certification? Wait, that's more than just downloading the latest thing off of github?
Specifically so any goober can't just break into your open SSH port because you don't have shit for password security or a vuln happens and then fuck about in Ring0 like you can in Linux.
Digicert some useless company man, what do they do?
No no, can't mention Digicert.
Digitally certify your stuff?
Stahp.
no one
who needs "certification"
that's for pussies and corpos
True :)
real g's just rawdog it
^^
and then lose everything
Yep yep
