#

The problem is we can't render 100000 npcs

young pecan
#

Look, mate.

#

All I’m hearing is SLI needs to come back.

astral haven
#

The entities that we can render 100000 of are simulated on the gpu

#

Particles and all that

warm night
#

we do not need sli back

young pecan
#

Quad way 5090. nods

warm night
#

it never worked anyway

#

not well enough

astral haven
young pecan
#

Well that’s just objectively wrong.

#

Multiple games used both GPUs to 95%.

warm night
#

don't you just get stutters

young pecan
#

With some games? No.

warm night
#

or is this in more modern gamed

astral haven
warm night
#

i guess older games made with it in mind will work better

astral haven
#

Sli just requires a ton of tuning

astral haven
warm night
#

tuning that noone seems to want to do i guess that's why its been phased out

astral haven
warm night
#

interesting

astral haven
#

There are like 5 different settings with various values each you can tune

#

But also we don't need sli, we need nvlink these days

young pecan
#

Wait wait.

astral haven
#

Or we need better frame amplification tech

young pecan
#

You’re telling me I can get SLI and manually make every game do 95% with Inspector?

astral haven
#

Noooo

young pecan
#

:(

astral haven
#

You can however turn anything that decreases fps with sli into nothing or a minor increase

young pecan
#

Why must you give me hope only to rip it away and make life sad.

astral haven
#

That's your fault

warm night
#

damn

young pecan
#

Poor SLI. :(

astral haven
#

Also 100% gpu usage on both gpus doesn't mean sli is helping

#

Gotta just look at the performance

young pecan
#

Ok ok but hear me out.

#

Quad way 1080Ti.

astral haven
#

Oooor
Single 4090

young pecan
#

Friendly reminder that 4 of that card still holds the synthetic benchmark world record as of like earlier this year.

#

Thanks, Kingpin.

#

Fuckin’ madlad quad LN2 pot extendo daughterboard thing.

warm night
#

proof that bigger number is better

astral haven
#

Maybe, but it still doesn't beat a single 4090

warm night
#

unfortunately this means that the 5050 is going to beat it

#

if they make one

astral haven
#

What

young pecan
#

Oh cool it finally got beaten.

#

But like only barely lmfao.

astral haven
#

By a single gpu fam

halcyon willow
#

I don't think that's barely lol

astral haven
#

133 vs 144 fps

#

it is pretty minor

Imagine the AI googling your facebook account and trying to empathize with you to avoid death. We're on track to a really goddamn cursed timeline.

young pecan
astral haven
#

we need a heck of a lot more than just ai cores to run good text models

#

the current flagship ai model is 2.3tb, and you need to operate over the entire model to receive a response
the openly available models are still over 30GB when heavily compressed, and you would have to fit that into vram to use it with gpu ai cores

#

and when you compress them they get worse

#

applying ai is not the same as using the ai cores in the gpu

#

technically everything has ai applied to it since the gpu design themselves are optimized using AI

#

ye theres probably little to nothing that couldnt be improved

astral haven
#

but i suspect its mostly going to be on the development side

#

making sure that every gpu resource is used properly is a problem for the game engines, it shouldnt be the responsibility of the gpu

That's not a proper saber but, scifi can do whatever they want I guess

Why's it also misspelled, it's supposed to be a sabre

It does look more like a metal sword than a traditional lightsaber yes. I don't particularly like that either.

#

How come it's taking this long to release the 75% (or similar size) version? Not a critic, but as an ignorant in this field I would like to understand why does it take so long to release another version if you already have your switches, software/firmware etc. Does it take this long to tweak all these stuff for the 75% size even though you already have the full model which should, I think, cover to an extent stuff included in the medium model?

reef patrol
#

Maybe we want to make something more than just a "60HE but more keys"

We'll announce everything when we feel ready.

Why settle at 8, when we have processors doing infinitely more?

Today 1khz, tomorrow 1 jiggahertz!

fickle ore

this is the way

regal oasis

Maybe I don't feel like paying more for x features because I might not need them so why can't I access a "base" model?

Then you'll have to wait and see what we announce either way.

I see thank you! Will be waiting then 😄

#

@ashen spindle A really weird leak came out today

#

Saying that contrary to Kopite's claims, T239 is not Switch 2 SoC

#

Nintendo is using T254

#

Which is funny cause that SoC doesn't exist, and for a good reason, it's based on Atlan

#

Atlan that Nintendo canned 2 years back and now are working on Thor

#

Apparently Nvidia thought that Atlan wasn't good enough, canned it internally, and just gave it away to Nintendo, and they took it

#

I find that not really believable but, could be?

wheat plume
#

I'd believe it
Cheap out on hardware

cursive summit
#

Cheap out?

#

Atlan's top of the line of whatever Nvidia still has out right now

#

When Thor comes out properly, obviously not

#

But Atlan's far better than Orin

#

If Nintendo somehow got Atlan

#

Then they are on the same hardware as PC market is

wheat plume
#

O.o

#

It'll still be arm though?

cursive summit
#

TSMC 5nm, Ada Lovelace, up to date ARM cores

wheat plume
#

Aha

cursive summit
#

Like, that'd be best case scenario for Nintendo

#

And considering Atlan was canned in like 2021, they could have that hardware running

#

But I really doubt it, Nintendo's most likely on T239 and that's Orin, good performing cores, but already getting oldy

wheat plume
#

They'll pick orin cause cheaper and therefore profit

#

They'd don't care about performance since all their first party games have low requirements

#

Except Pokemon......

#

If A Hat In Time can run flawlessly on Switch
Why can't Pokemon???

wheat plume
#

Well
.... The loading times for Hat are atrocious

cursive summit
#

Whatever Nintendo chooses

wheat plume
#

Takes like 3 minutes to load into a level

But once you do it's smooth

cursive summit
#

Orin is more than capable for FHD high fidelity gaming

wheat plume
#

Also.....
How slow is the Xbox 360 slim HDD????

cursive summit
#

As slow as you are when standing up from a chair

reef patrol
#

I mean it's a 2,5" mechanical disk. Welcome to HDDs

wheat plume
#

Cause I remember the loading times for Split Second being horrific on Xbox back in the day

But on my steam deck, loading from SD card, it takes like 10 seconds

#

So wtf

cursive summit
#

SD card?

#

How cheap are you, get a 1TB NVMe SSD for like 60$

wheat plume
#

Nah....
I'm good with SD card

#

I have 512gb

#

A hat in time won't load from SD card for me
Which is strange

cursive summit
#

I mean, if you want to sit on outdated hardware, that's fine

wheat plume
#

I don't care
The loading times aren't any slower than the internal SSD

cursive summit
#

You tell yourself that

wheat plume
#

Installing takes longer...I usually install to the SSD then transfer to SD card
If I have enough space on SSD for that

ashen spindle
#

Idk haven’t seen anything about Atlan so it doesn’t sound believable yet

ashen spindle
#

No I mean about it being used for Nintendo

wheat plume
#

Switch 2 gonna be 500 bucks if they use this stuff

@proper wadi thought I would take the JS question here instead of the uwu channel 🤣

  • It's got hidden control flow which makes unexpected error management hard (this isn't just a JS problem, but modern languages avoid this)
  • Npm is a mess, node_modules grows what feels like exponentially
  • There are no standardised tools for code formatting, bundling, or linting. All third party, and some change all the time. It's a neverending battle of new frameworks coming out every week which leads to this funny website https://dayssincelastjavascriptframework.com/
  • TS is great, but it's an extra build step for an interpreted language and in large projects leads to "type gymnastics", JSDoc is also great and helps avoid type gymnastics, but it bloats your codebase with comments.
  • Weird quirks all over, you'll find some good examples online of people doing NaN === NaN = false or something else https://github.com/denysdovhan/wtfjs#-examples
  • Module system is a nightmare, what is it? AMD? CommonJS? ESModules?
  • JS is used for things JS should not be used for. I think someone created an OS with it somehow. It's not a fast language (but then again it isn't slow, compared with python)
  • Const is not really const. It just means the reference is constant, but the values contains within can be mutated.

Could probs think of more but that's what I got!

Ah it's cool was in reply to waddlesworth in the #archived_wooting_uwu channel asking what's so bad about JS
Mods pushed yesterday to keep the uwu channel away from tech talk so I thought I would continue it here

fair gull
#

i mean 2,3,4 and 6 are sort of solved when bun becomes actually usable

past sage
#

Yeah bun seems cool!!

fair gull
#

wtfjs isnt really a wtf but more easy ways people may misunderstand type coercion usually

#

because most people just dont understand weakly typed languages like js

#

for 1, 7 and 8 i do agree although 7 is sort of a point where some projects benefit from the slight performance hit but trading it for an easier coding experience

past sage
#

Yeah, to be fair I don't know if it's a con but some of those just don't follow what you would think should happen leading to more bugs, even for people who have used JS for a while but it's not common anyway to have code inherit a bug from those quirks
I code TS full-time, and when I use something like Go or Rust I just 😍
I will always stand by python being great for what it's great at, gluing compiled libraries together and data analysis. It's got the tools and is really easy to work with, and I think will grow more with this AI boom going on

#

Hopefully one day Deno or Bun become the main choice, they really feel like what JS should have been like from the start

#

Or node, not so much JS

nimble canopy
#

5 is just people being stupid
NaN == NaN should return false that is the IEEE standard

fair gull
#

thats the whole point of the repo

#

educating people on how JS works and different standards

past sage

yeah it is a really interesting repo 👀

#

Maybe I shouldn't have put it in my list 🤣

proper wadi
# past sage <@229419335930609664> thought I would take the JS question here instead of the u...

I don't disagree, but I also think a lot of these are as a result of design decisions that lead to a lot of the advantages that JavaScript has.

The main one that stands out to me is "JS is used for things that JS should not be used for."

I agree, but that's not the fault of the language. I'm not saying that JavaScript is the be all and end all and the only language you need to know. I'm saying that for a lot of cases, it is the best choice.

past sage
#

Yeah you're right, sometimes in my mind I forget node is NOT JS, and the above list was more of a gripe I have with how people have used JS today rather than how it could have been used. :/
What sucks is so much is done for node, that moving to bun or deno for a far better developer experience is difficult, especially for companies. Even with npm interop out of the box, is that what you want? Will it truly work flawlessly?
I guess to summarise, the JS ecosystem is a big mess that needs cleaning! It's got so much potential for improvement!

nimble canopy
#

A good part of that list reminds me why I like zig or typed languages that being implicit type conversions

raw zephyr
#

never understood the shit terminology of nodejs

nimble canopy
#

Implicit type conversions just lead to bugs and make the code worse

raw zephyr
#

it's just js, but on server

proper wadi
#

It's a pretty common occurrence for my personal projects to do a prototype or a proof of concept in JavaScript and node, to see if what I'm trying to do is even possible, only to build it in Rust later.

#

That was true of my Wooting overlay lol

at least youre not prototyping in python

raw zephyr
#

nobody cares if it's slow, when it's just a prototype

proper wadi
#

Main thing I don't like about python is the tabbing, I can never follow along and if I want to make something short or a one liner, I can't

nimble canopy
#

Python at least has explicit type conversion

past sage
#

Yeah I have never been a fan of the tabbing :/

fair gull
past sage
#

Probably because I am very used to not havig it

proper wadi
#

I wrote something in Haskell once, that was an adventure

fair gull
#

python also has implicit type casting

nimble canopy
raw zephyr
#

doesn't js also have Number() and String() funcs?

past sage
# fair gull so does js

JS does to an extent, if you consume directly from a lib it will give you types. But things you define beyond that are all any, I think // @ts-check can be used to force the TS server to run line-specific ts checking

fair gull
raw zephyr
#

didn't even know there are some consts and methods

past sage
#

Gah I am spending more time talking about JS than coding it for work rn 🤣

Have you read wtfjs the explanations where that stuff got turned in to numbers

fair gull
#

thats the least specific question you could have asked

#

do you mean array equallity?

like the only scenarios i can imagine you mean is where arrays get type coerced into bools which have a standard int representation of 0 and 1

iOS is also now a valid platform to port games to

pale sigil
#

My mum has been using an iPad since 2013 xd

cursive summit
#

What's going to happen, and why I am really interested how companies will deal with this

#

You now have so many software/games releasing

#

That will get ported to Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, Android, Switch, PlayStation, Xbox

#

Like, that's a LOT of work

#

Only way I can see all of that work getting done efficiently is to cut corners

ashen spindle
#

not really

#

consoles are a special case since they are such low power but phones have different specs so that starts to be more like a pc or steamdeck where you just get different presets

#

and any smaller title that uses an established engine can just port it easily

#

if its some RE game the expected sales would warrant a separte team so no reaons to cut corners

chrome silo
#

With Mod Tap, are you able to bind arrow keys for both tap and hold for the same key? I.e. just completely remap 4 keys to function as normal arrow keys?

young pecan
#

Honestly the Legion Go is looking frankly excellent. Integer upscaling unlike the rest of the handhelds, nice hardware specs, QOL a stuff like Hall effect joysticks, and the right controller can also be a mouse.

#

Why even buy the ROG Ally.

cursive summit
#

Cause it's Lenovo

#

And I don't like Lenovo

young pecan
#

Honestly? Mostly agree.

#

But their Legion line has been weirdly consistent.

#

Idk what it is. Nothing else they do is great except for those laptops and it appears the Go.

smoky frigate
#

it's the only handheld PC I'm kinda looking forward to. I'm waiting for benchmarks and release (like any reasonable person SHOULD) before I make a judgement

#

hope linux will run good on it. also hope for a good audio chipset

so can i have the win10 taskbar and startmenu in zinc?

no? well sucks to suck

But I do hate win11 taskbar and startmenu dogenek

hasty thunder
#

yep

#

it sucks hard

cursive summit

I really think they dropped the ball hard with 11

It doesn't look good, far less functional

And they are abandoning it already lol

Win12 in 2024 apparently

How doesn't 11 look good

Sure it has its flaws here and there

But it's beautiful

it looks like KDE lol

rough osprey

much better then 10

#

hell nah

smoky frigate
#

are ms ever gonna give (you) up on those godawful ribbon menus?

cursive summit
#

But eh "preferences"

halcyon moss
#

Try using a normal menu, ribbons are a godsend

cursive summit
#

Wait, right, they replaced my explorer

smoky frigate
#

I use all sorts of menus all the time. ribbons should be a personal quick button area

cursive summit
#

This is genuinely awful by the way

#

Probably second worst transgression after right click menu

#

Then I'll go with taskbar and windows start menu for third

smoky frigate
#

I gotta hand it to MS, I prefer this over the old ribbons

cursive summit
#

I genuinely really like this

#

This is easy to understand, easy to navigate

#

And I don't have to remember/hover over every single item to be like "what does this do?"

#

Which Win11 is INSISTING on forcing on you

smoky frigate
#

it looks like a vomit torrent of icons to me, I wanna minimize it!

cursive summit
#

A lot of Windows 11 is just unnamed icons

rough osprey
#

aesthetics vs easy usability

cursive summit
#

But I also like it to look good

rough osprey
#

i never use the top buttons so

cursive summit
#

But if it's unusable, like Windows 11 continues to force on me unusable, hard to navigate features, then kindly, bugger off

#

I actually did try Windows 11 debloated and that was literally just Windows 10

#

But.. really barebones lol

rough osprey
#

right / left clicking kinda more intuitive for me

smoky frigate
#

wait for LTSC

cursive summit
#

Tons of shit just broke cause whoever debloated it, removed a crap ton of functions that some apps use

#

But that was the best, and honestly pretty great, windows 11 experience

#

Mainly cause it was just windows 10 lol

wheat plume
smoky frigate

never been happy with user-modded bindows, there is always something broken with them

smoky frigate

it can, it's just harder to get there

loud ember
#

On linux you need to setup your security unlike windows

wheat plume
#

I like Android, dont you use Android too?

cursive summit
#

Even less safe than Android

#

Linux's whole problem is that it's open source

#

Easy to find exploits

#

And then you rely on the linux foundation to do anything about them

#

But then all the damn skin makers also have to implement those

#

So there's a whole process that takes way too long that could just be an update like Android, iOS, Mac, Windows, etc do it

smoky frigate
#

and you trust MS to be on that

But fym, you shouldn't give anyone the root key

That will surely fix the problem right

Just don't give it to anyone

cursive summit

Okay, perf/W

loud ember
#

Windows and linux are the same security wise. If you install a malicious application it will ruin your day.

#

All of these security problems are all from the same root cause, and will effect users of both systems equally

#

In order for someone to exploit legacy code from some application that you gave root permissions to would require them to already have access to your computer

#

I can only assume the reason no one really cares to solve the problem is because its a non-issue

cursive summit
#

I think you fail to understand that malware propagates in more ways that just install

loud ember
#

Like how?

cursive summit
#

Javascript exploits, network worms, email hooks

#

There are lots of ways to target a computer without a download

rough osprey

cursive summit

And there you are all on your own and counting on the raw security of the platform

loud ember
#

Yes, i use linux

#

These things are not as big of a problem as you think

crisp granite
loud ember
#

You arent the only one who studies it here lol

smoky frigate
cursive summit
#

And then get a backdoor installed cause fym got your root access

loud ember

Im not using legacy systems

cursive summit

Just delete root account lol mm

loud ember
#

Thats literally the whole point of root lol

cursive summit
crisp granite
loud ember
cursive summit
#

Root should only exist in a sandbox environment, and then it should be removed after build

cursive summit
#

Unless it's a sandbox then whatever

loud ember
#

Then how do you modify system files without root?

#

Or access things that require that privilege?

#

So just dont use your computer? Ok lol

#

Garbage os that completely restricts what you can do

cursive summit
#

For a very good reason?

#

It's not meant for you to tweak it cause that is not safe

loud ember
#

I dont trust a company enough to not allow tweaks

#

Im not trying to have ads that i cant disable on my desktop...

loud ember
#

Ur funny

cursive summit
#

You are talking to someone that works in cybersecurity, studies cybersecurity, and is obsessed with cybersecurity

#

If you don't believe what a person that sacrifices 20 hours of their life a day doing says then, I'm sorry havo

loud ember
#

Hes too obsessed. He things a little thing that already requires an attacker to have access is a problem

cursive summit
#

It's a she, mind

loud ember
#

She's *so obsessed that she thinks the user is an attacker

cursive summit
#

You only need to get hacked once to get fucked

#

So it's not a problem until it is

loud ember
#

It cant be a problem if you just dont get hacked

ashen spindle
loud ember
#

You cant just access any system with its ip. Hacking just doesn't work like that

#

If you could no one would be using computers

#

There's an amount of social engineering that needs to take place to make a user download a malicious application

cursive summit
loud ember
#

Brute force, of course you can

cursive summit
#

Send someone tampered packets, if you don't have a proper firewall, they will go through

loud ember
#

Just keep trying a password

ashen spindle

so its not as simple as just saying just dont get hacked

smoky frigate

more input from people who have way more expertise (and time on their hands) than me

Or virtually any attachment

loud ember

Hey check out my game: "game.exe"

cursive summit
#

Or uh, your bank sends you an account statement?

loud ember
#

Yes. Its almost like i know my banks email...

ashen spindle
#

if your bank sends you something you go to the banks website manually and check just never via the email

if they even send you mails

loud ember
#

Yeah, thats the best practice

ashen spindle

but even that isnt perfect

smoky frigate

every email from my bank has been "hello, we are your bank"

ashen spindle

if DNS hijacks happen and you think its your bank you cant do much etc.

Any scammer can really easily masquerade as an official bank email address

You check the email handle, it's an official one, you think it's legit, click on the pdf, and you just got hacked

But I can't be assed with the physical hardware but also electric consumption.

#

I also abandoned torrenting years ago

young pecan
#

Or like the recent log4js vuln.

#

You actually have the most brain dented take I think I've ever seen.

#

"Dw guys, Root is fine on a consumer OS so long as we ignore privilege escalation, day1 vulns, people being stupid and not updating, broken router firmware, physical attacks, and general entry level cybersecurity tomfoolery"

#

What's that? Some routers ship with ports open? I'm sure that's not a recipe to get your shit broken into because privilage escalation has never existed for Linux. If you don't know shit about cybersecurity then don't make a claim about security, especially when it's one you can disprove with all of the mental might of 30 seconds in google.

cursive summit
#

A bit rude but gets the point across

young pecan
#

Here, just to nail the point home further because being an asshole can be fun, we have Phind, a GPT 4 model, can apparently does your future job better than you do, Black!
What a goddamn miracle the modern internet is.

cursive summit

AI also just gives you exploits in general

young pecan
cursive summit
#

It's never been easier for a rookie to do damage nowadays

young pecan
#

Exactly.

#

So when some idiot comes along spewing the most brain damaged information you've ever heard that can be corrected with 30 seconds on google then you have to wonder if that's just being foolish or actively malicious.

Either way it doesn't deserve any respect of any kind.

misty saffron

so, good for you!

You can't do that to him.

He'll get lost in the 40 seconds it takes to find that vuln documented on Github.

Even mentioning dmarc to someone that thinks Linux is actually secure. Goddamn you'll give him panic attacks.

that’s fine i’ll link it

Phind will happily write full programs and it's internet enabled.

I mean phind is a full programming AI.

cursive summit
young pecan
#

It'd be stupid if it couldn't talk about cybersecurity.

#

Can confirm it is.

#

Like it does all the shit GPT 4 does since it gives you free access.

#

And it'll do wack ass stuff.

cursive summit
#

Yeah but it still runs on 3.5 unless you pay up

young pecan
#

No it runs on GPT 4.

cursive summit
#

Uh, no?

misty saffron
#

thank you for suggestions

young pecan
#

You pay for more uses per hour, it does GPT 4 by default.

cursive summit
#

It's very much paid per their own pricing plan

young pecan

Hmm. Odd.

cursive summit
#

I assume it's 3.5 unless you pay up

young pecan

I have an account but I don't pay for it, I'm getting GPT 4 responses.

That's prolly the best one

It's so scuffed.

Why no AI wiki?

cursive summit

Idk man porn is pretty useful

misty saffron

are you implying porn isn’t useful?

I still despise Windows Defender

young pecan

It's not that bad anymore.

cursive summit
#

It's not

#

It's still worse than most things you can use

young pecan
#

Way better than the awful Windows 7 days. Fuckin' yikes.

cursive summit
#

Kind of been looking into that whole endpoint thing courtesy of @dawn epoch

#

Heard that cloudflare gives free endpoint protection lol

young pecan
#

Malwarebytes, Hitman, and debatably Kapersky.

#

But that's a more like last minute yolo.

cursive summit
#

I am on that kapusky thing dogenek

smoky frigate
#

malwarebytes is the only one I'd recommend tbh

cursive summit
#

Kaspersky is absolutely insane

#

Like, Defender would literally always scream and delete files it deems remotely bad

young pecan
#

Malwarebytes is the main driver for AV, then you run Hitman if things go sideways since that thing is basically a nuke.

cursive summit
#

Kaspersky is just like, yeah, whatever

#

Never flags anything unless something is really off

young pecan
#

That's not a good AV feature, buddy.

cursive summit
#

That for me is a good feature cause Defender has too many flags set up

#

And I can't be bothered to fight it constantly

young pecan
#

I'd only recommend touching Kapersky because it's good at killing stuff. But like... in that case use Hitman and Malwarebytes.

#

Wombo combo.

cursive summit
#

Like, always getting screamed at by Defender cause "HackTool:Win32/AutoKMS" was detected

#

And then fighting it cause it keeps autodeleting the damn thing

#

Like, fuck off, it's a hacktool, it's there for a reason dogenek

smoky frigate
#

hahahaha

young pecan
#

...? You use hacktools for KMS? Do you not know about the funny powershell script?

#

Windef doesn't see it.

cursive summit
smoky frigate
#

I'm pretty sure I can still do the 2 commands I used to activate my win10 LTSC from memory

cursive summit
#

But for Office I still use KMS

young pecan
#

Bro is using Office.

#

There are bigger problems here.

cursive summit
#

Why wouldn't I use Office?

#

Libre sucks

smoky frigate
#

tru dat

young pecan
#

Because Google Suite and ObsidianMD exist.

cursive summit
#

No thanks for Google

#

Not sure what Obsidian Medical is

young pecan
#

Why the flying fuck am I ever using Office when Obsidian, holy shit.

#

It's basically half notepad, half IDE.

#

A few thousand plugins as well. Can do pretty much anything related to notes.

smoky frigate
#

if you aren't afraid to run chinese software, WPS office had far and wide the best compatibility with microsoft formats for me

cursive summit
#

It's Windows OneNote? dogenek

young pecan
#

Nope.

#

OneNote is notably worse than Obsidian is.

cursive summit
#

Does this even do spreadsheets?

young pecan
#

Like for example you can get Obsidian to do GPT 4 API calls.

cursive summit
#

Presentations?

young pecan
young pecan
#

2 very well fleshed out plugins for those.

cursive summit
#

Tbf I don't really care but good to know

#

If it works, don't fix it

young pecan
#

Prolly my fav thing about it is I can tell it to summerize an entire project into a new note and GPT 4 will give me the cliff notes.

#

Then there are plugins to link with various APIs like YTs etc so you can pull data from basically anywhere.

cursive summit
#

If that is any good for writing 50 page scientific docs then I might give it a shot

young pecan
#

I mean yeah. It is.

#

Like what do you need to write scientific docs?

#

'Cause if it's a function someone does on a notepad then odds are pretty goddamn high someone has made a plugin for it.

cursive summit
#

Nah I just need it to write itself

#

Cause I can't be bothered lol

young pecan
#

GPT 4 API calls then. LUL

cursive summit
young pecan

When you sounded like you were the person speaking in the ad

young pecan

#

My advice is go learn the field before trying to give out deliberately awful advice. Or do you not have anything to say about the rest of the conversation?

#

For example, how exactly do you respond to Spectre existing?

young pecan
#

'Cause that only got somewhat patched on Linux at first and it could be used to do priv escalation, that thing that's apparently harmless because root is fine.

#

Sooooooo...

#

Like are you good at cybersecurity when you ignore half of the security?

young pecan
#

If you're in root you don't. KEKW

#

Dw mate, cybersecurity isn't real, you can just do sudo su forever.

loud ember
#

No ones dumb enough to be root user after setup

young pecan
#

And yet it's kept around being a good thing by your logic? Interesting take.

loud ember
#

How else are you gonna update the files that require root access?

young pecan
#

That's the thing, in a well built OS you don't need to.

#

The whole point is those files get updated when the OS updates.

loud ember
#

Thats purely theoretical and you know it

cursive summit
#

Updates are theoretical?

young pecan
#

So are we pretending Windows or OSx or BSD don't exist?

cursive summit
#

I wish, updates are cancer but they are pretty much mandatory

loud ember
#

A system that doesnt require updating because its perfect

young pecan
#

There is no such system and that's literal brain rot.

cursive summit
#

That is never going to be a thing

#

Linux is also not a system that's perfect by any means either

young pecan
#

Say you make your perfect system and I go ahead and make a better thing you don't have, shit guess I just ruined your perfect system.

loud ember
#

No system is perfect, that is why there needs to be some way for a system to update its privileged files

young pecan
#

Yes it's called an OS update, Windows has had them for all of Windows.

cursive summit
#

For the system to update the files, with a certified update

#

Not THE USER

young pecan
#

^

#

It's almost as though we certify these things specifically so a bad actor can't be a dickweed.

#

Who knew.

cursive summit
#

There's a reason there's billions invested into hashes and hashsum checks lol

#

Better hashes, better security

young pecan
#

And like shit if you want to run an update that isn't certified you can specifically just turn off checksum for that update.

#

That's how core mods are done in windows.

#

Like there are ways.

#

It's just the base user doesn't get to fuck around at all times.

cursive summit

Hackerman mm

loud ember
#

Why are we acting like linux is the only one with this problem then?

cursive summit
#

Cause Linux is the only one with this problem

young pecan
#

Because none of the other ones have priv escalation from the user.

loud ember
#

Last i checked all my updates are verified on linux

cursive summit
#

That's not what we were talking about

young pecan
#

^

cursive summit
#

Problem is, is that Linux just allows anyone to tamper with the kernel

#

That's not supposed to be allowed

young pecan
#

Linux is the only OS that allows the user to escalate and then modify everything in the entire OS. A bad actor needs to get into your account and then Ring0 is fucked. That's a really stupid vuln.

loud ember
#

Someone cant tamper with the windows kernel?

young pecan
#

No.

#

It's designed for you to need to actually do that with admin.

#

Which the base user can't do.

#

Windows doesn't have sudo into admin which lets any user fuck around.

#

Only Linux does that and it's why Linux for end users is the worst take imaginable.

loud ember
#

Yes it can

cursive summit
#

Windows allows just enough open source for it to be fully functional and moddable to the extent that user needs

young pecan
#

No it can't. Windows has UAC which is not the same thing as sudo.

cursive summit
#

The critical components are closed source

loud ember
#

I can escalate a non-admin to admin in windows with an admin password the same way i do in linux

young pecan
#

And that's not sudo.

#

That's UAC.

cursive summit
#

Not the same thing lol

#

Windows admin is like, nothing

hasty thunder
#

ok, hold on, wtf did i just read?

young pecan
#

Windows UAC is designed to let the user install files in more areas or fuck around, but it doesn't let them break the kernel or tamper with Ring0.

hasty thunder
#

win admin means nothing, srsly

young pecan
#

Comparatively nothing, he means.

hasty thunder
#

sys would be something else

loud ember
hasty thunder
#

but admin?

crisp granite
#

it is too early to be getting drunk it is too early to be getting drunk it is too early to be getting drunk it is too early to be getting drunk it is too early to be getting drunk

cursive summit
hasty thunder
#

i'm contemplating about getting drunk due to the stupid shit posted here as well

young pecan
#

That's the entire point of code certification.

cursive summit
young pecan
#

Specifically so any goober can't just break into your open SSH port because you don't have shit for password security or a vuln happens and then fuck about in Ring0 like you can in Linux.

cursive summit
#

Digicert some useless company man, what do they do?

young pecan
#

No no, can't mention Digicert.

cursive summit
#

Digitally certify your stuff?

young pecan
#

Stahp.

cursive summit
#

Who needs that

#

Not linux

young pecan
#

They're scary.

#

Digicert bad.

crisp granite
#

who needs "certification"

#

that's for pussies and corpos

loud ember
#

True :)

crisp granite
#

real g's just rawdog it

loud ember
#

^^

crisp granite
#

and then lose everything

loud ember
#

Yep yep

young pecan
#

I literally have no idea how it's even possible to claim cybersecurity and be this brain rotted.

#

Like holy shit.

crisp granite
#

because they know absolutely nothing about what they're doing

#

more like DIWhy the fuck do you think you have any idea what you're doing?
