Good rule of thumb is if you want to own an IPO stock, buy it at 50% off it's high after listing
Kek yeah, it usually dips a bit after being listed
hmm
gib 540hz oled
540hz normal layout with BFI or similar oled on ultrawide I beg
Also Xilinx acquisition will be really big for their growth
😬
I kinda wana try stacked 32:9s
💀
Effectively 4 monitors
On top of eachother?
Yeah
Get this thing then https://www.samsung.com/us/computing/monitors/gaming/55-odyssey-ark-4k-uhd-165hz-1ms-quantum-mini-led-curved-gaming-screen-ls55bg970nnxgo/
except significantly higher resolution
A bit of a weird product but eh
I hate how many monitors release and they just are too large for the amount of pixel density they have
for the average distance on a desk you'd be viewing from
Ah come on
165 is just fine
For pleb eyes
name one lol
ark
No one buys it though
all the 1440p ultrawides
the pixels are huge on that monstrosity
specifically the 32:9 1440p ultrawides
and the 1440p ultrawides are often about the same pixel density as 1080p24 inch
yes
essenstially every corsair monitor sku
you arent supposed to consider it like one monitor that you want to fully fit in your (acquity) fov
32:9 ultra wide are the same as 1440p27
^
The corsair 45 inch one is dumb though
its just 2 monitors extremely well stapled together
the issue with that is even 1440p 27 is kinda not that dense
27 inch 4k is ideal
the proper viewing distance for a 1440p 27inch is 2 feet
Also i want a kvm on all my monitors now
my monitor is all the way back on my desk and I only reach 2 feet when I lean back in my chair
my desk depth is 30 inches deep
yes so put your monitor at the back of the desk?
already is
and sit up straight insead of slouching forward?
if I wanted to put my monitor further I'd need a wall mount
oh also be aware that the more tv sized monitors have slimmer mounts
if your monitor raises and lowers, its moving your monitor more forward than the arc would sit
now the arc also has a super deep stand, but the monitor is mounted very close to the back
my issue with the arc is it's a bit too big for it's resolution as a monitor
you can get away with 4k 48" at 3ft which is a good distance to be away from it
but at 55 you need to have a far deeper desk, which the curve on the arc doesn't really allow
if you curve it the other way it pushes further out from the desk, and then you need it to be mounted lower
but this way you can get a normal monitor experience+ extra
We got our hands on 3 55" Odyssey Arks, so we Spanned them together. This was difficult to get it to work, but amazing once we got it!
Odyssey Ark 55"
- Screen Size: 55 Inches
- Display Resolution Maximum: 3,840 x 2,160 Pixels
- Brand: SAMSUNG
- Special Feature: Curved, High Dynamic Range, Tilt Adjustment, Pivot Adjustment, Built-In Speake...
also this
lol
🤷 some people actually just have poor vision
and some people are rich enough to have enough space in their room to have a very deep desk
the image on their website is as blurry as this monitor is
also keep in mind tho you gotta compensate for the extra width
thats only slightly less dense than a 1440p 32 incher
https://www.amazon.com/HEMUDU-Monitor-Computer-Adjustable-Rotation/dp/B09KKY2C9X/
also there are thinner monitor mounts you can attach to the back of your desk
this is likely to move your monitor further away
🤔 are you sure about there not being any issues?
yea by 0,18 % while being up 3 % for the day
Sure, just letting you know there is a new dip so you can buy more
Though I expect in 2-3 quarter you can have another dip
Oh I've not bought more. My average is around 30$ and I've stopped adding. It's yielding me some divs rn and waiting for 50-60$+
Ultimately I'll just sell and move over to boring acc etfs true boglehead style
Might not want to look at the numbers next year then lel
It's considered to have pretty ok risk/reward tho
Same as Meta at 100$ a while back, when everyone was shitting on it and telling me nobody uses facebook anymore 😛
I'm up 150 % on my meta pos
up 150% or at 150%
up 150%, which isnt that much but beats index
what
Meta doesn’t have a zen5 semi truck running into its office early next year
2.5x initial is hella great wtf are you on
true
i mean unless you invested 20 years ago or whatever
na last november when it was like 100 kek 😄
yea hype vs counterhype
in hindsight shouldve bought more but im stupid what can you do
well hindsight is 2020
yea
and who were you to know that meta would be leading the Open source AI charge
jumping from the least productive bandwagon to the most productive one
i was playing around with compressed llama 2 models yesterday and daaaaaamn are they awesome
Also sold my mini NVDA pos. at like 300 $ a while back when their TTM P/E was like 200. Seemed too risky but who could've guessed this. Not me 😄
yup
otherwise their pe ratio would have been 300+
It's still crazy high I think but if they keep growing like this that's fine I guess. Though it's hard to grow 88 % yoy or qoq.
but being the solitary company capable of delivering on the next hype cycle of tech 3 times in a row is insanity
yea lol
gaming then crypto then AI
lucky or not? thats the question
Before we need to survive ai ai needs to survive capitalism
lol dont think thats gonna be a problem
Chatgpt is amazing but what’s the revenue model to make profit
chatgpt is whatever per month
hiring an intern is a heck of alot more than that
Something weird like the internet, they couldnt believe internet could make money at first!
well thats a pretty bad example lol, there was a huge bust
xD
as long as outfitting your team with chatgpt subscriptions outperforms hiring an extra intern, it will be hella profitable
the problem is the current ai just learns by looking at outputs...
so if your work has deliverables already, and a history of them, you are screwed
at least eventually
you can buy 130 chatgpt subscriptions for the price of a single minimum wage entry level software dev
This kinda becomes a big problem at scale; if you replace all people, who will pay the taxes? And on other hand, who is buying the things after liquid dries up? You somehow gotta keep people worked or on welfare
you dont replace all the people
you just replace the lowest performing ones :/
thats how it always is
there is also a current issue with copyright etc.
thats not a problem for organizations with code
use a lora with purely your own code and you are good to go
Tbh I wouldn't mind a 2k€/month welfare check either =P. So keep the AI coming bois.
and about 90% of the boring part of my job can be automated by AI
the interesting part only probably 20% can get automated with pure software tools
even just trained on own data isnt a clear case, there was a talk at devcom from a lawyer at devcom yesterday that a coworker went to and summarized but need to look at details next week
the more useful part for coders however is searching for errors
if you could get an ai good enough to always warn you about bugs, that would easily displace about half of the software dev industry
(current)
now if you couldnt trust it to always warn you it wouldnt be helpful
dont think you understand
the printing press didnt "replace" the scribes
One question you do get is will half the developers really be out of a job, or will they be utilised in other niches?
Eitger way I imagine companies will use AI as an excuse to reduce wages
it just made the people who used them 100x more productive
yep the hope is that the software industry will grow by more than the productivity is improved
But that essentially means you need 1 for each 100 persons. If that is economy wide on all sectors, it will definitely become an issue that needs tackled at some point.
why?
Can't have only 10% of the population working and rest on welfare
as long as productivity (i mean real goods productivity) outstrips the rate at which jobs are replaced you are all good
you can if those 10% have 100x the productive output they did before
technically you just need 10x but thats not practical
Sure, but then you have 90% of the country just afk playing games and stuff. I won't complain as long it's not slavery welfare. If they could pay 2-5k/per person benefits they should do that instead of something very little, otherwise it'll become a civil war 😄
remember 100% of humans used to be used for food production and preparation
people will find stuff to do
now what are the chances that real productivity increases faster than people are displaced from jobs? low
but it can possibly be a good result if we try
should be something like a percentage of productive output
capitalism has ruined the world
capitalism has ruined the world the least out of the options we are aware of
capitalism got started around here
ban tradable shares, distribute wealth, give every newborn a personal capital account or a trust which gets topped with universal income until they come of age, no equities, give workers freedom to move between companies freely, tax only corporate revenues
capitalism started when east india company was divided
thats not capitalism
megacorporate shit capitalism which gives companies all the power was cemented in 1929 and 2008
no it was cemented in the 16th century
it just took a while for humans to figure out how to optimize it past the point of being beneficial for humanity as a whole
that's kind of the timeline, but the no morals only profit thinking really started with EIC
🤷 thats very much not what it looks like in history
more people are suffering now by a factor of 10
but we have a factor of a million times more people
yes
there are problems, but we are using the best framework we have as of yet discovered
just follow my above framework, also give everyone psychedelics
or just abolish work altogether, don't we have enough capital already for everybody
we need love, not labor
shares are a key portion of how money flows in capitalism, so thats out
distribute wealth is the whole crux of the issue, its not a solution its a description of the problem
equity is shares
worker freedom is also a description of the problem not a solution, theoretically they have freedom
and define corporate revenue, there are plenty of companies that have tiny revenues and outsized impact, or companies that are tiny but technically have a ton of revenue thanks to providing services to many many people
maybe if shares are suddenly votes which you can't buy or sell, everybody in the company has one and then they decide about everything from distribution of profits to what to do next together. make everything smaller, abolish mega-corporations and banks
no the monetary part is entirely nescessary
would be cool if we found a way where everybody was working for the common good, and not for the 1%
of course all of this is not realistic and I'm not serious, we're fucked unless some kind of a world-wide revolution happens
🤷 as long as production goes up faster than inequality, its still an improvement
I miss having a static IP address
Fun fact: megacorp head honchos hate capitalism, they wish to eliminate it by destroying competition.
Hence why capitalism tends to kill itself if not properly managed.
Ensuring that the worker has the power ensures good capitalism. Which is why megacorps hate unions
yup
Your provider just swapping around your public IP a bunch?
static IPs suck hairy, unwashed balls
lel
the main source of our current issues in my opinion is that lobbying has disproportinately more power than constituents in affecting politicians opinions
If my modem goes off I get a new one
nien
Great to avoid bans but sucks for hosting
everythjing gets static ip
I'll have to set up a dynsns
ddns
Ye
what's the point of having a static IP nowadays? Just use a DDNS
I just miss not needing to
Modem using ipv6 or ipv4?
order
or you can use cloudflare tunnels and also get security and ddos protection
may i give you an advice?
4
I don't think advice is a physical object
every asus router comes with a free DDNS function
buy a cheap one, set it as a repeater, use the DDNS function, call it a day
Zylex also has that option, if you want something more secure
or you can use a raspi and run a ddns service on that
That is also something I was considering
personally recommend cloudflare tho

i use CF for all my clients that need ddns
Sry to say, but as someone heavily involved into cyber sec i'm strictly against Cloudflare
I want to sort my networking out in general.
single url access for ddns is the best
Rn it's horrid since I moved room
you find another company that provides such high efficiency security services for free
room? So you went from basement to sleep room?
throw your domain behind cloudflare and you actually have a chance of avoiding leaking your real ip

10/10
i doubt this
cloudflare is a industry staple
heavily involved and industry professional are very different things
I used to have a proper setup 😅, had the router positioned in the center of the house with pihole etc
and too invasive if you're running a business working with delicate data
huh
what
if you cant trust CF cdn in the middle
then youre shit isnt going over the internet anyway lol
yuppo
no cloud anything
best regards,
cybersec professional
don't believe me? Take a look at what data they're tracking the entire time and how often CF sends that tracked data home
a cybersec specialist who doesnt want anything cloud is unemployeed not a professional
if someone compramises CF then your crappy shit over ddns is the LAST thing they will go to
that is what a cdn dose dumb ass
lol
yes
I know what it is because I requested it when I set my security settings lmao
and for that reason alone i can't and won't recommend anyone CF. There are better and more discreet solutions out there if you have the money
what
Anyway.... I'm considering getting a repeater or something
Because I can't have my router outside my room anymore.
wrong window
asus supports using other asus routers as Mesh extenders
akamai?
AWS WAF?
I'm using both lol
a10?
yea cloudflare doesnt exactly do servers
:p
I use cloudflare DOH on my phone too which is pretty great
i get a nice warning popup whenever someone tries to watch my traffic
thats all cool and shit but, what is the best VPN that I can use?
theres no best vpn
a good one for torrenting
this
that is factually incorrect
^
The best VPN is a self hosted one
useless for torrenting tho
the solution tho is to not torrent
Why not
we don't care about your anti piracy explanation
what is the best VPN for torrenting
probably PIA
but im not saying not to privateer, im saying not to torrent
torrenting is stupid
Mullvad
they disabled port forwarding
I have literally 0.9mbps upload anyway
never
get gud
torrenting is just bad for the internet
download the content properly, if you cant find out how to, i suggest practicing your google skills
Stock growth this week nets me more than working full time this entire month

I wish I was smart enough to hop on the system when I was young, now I'm just an old anti-work disgruntled commie
kinda sounds like student life
there we go
have been for
how are you working full time as a student???
summer
I did too, though I took about 9 years to get my degree lul
oh right forgot about that
breaks 😦
It was nice while it lasted
Having time to work
and…
crap I did nothing but work this summer
I'm sure you'll hate it eventually when all you do is work
Oh you're anti torrent
Not anti arrr
mmmmmmmmmhm
yea
get your crap out of my routing table
I think I wouldn’t mind it if I had a stimulating job
like uh a prostate massager?
I rarely torrent these days
Mentally stimulating

double the stimulation
mmm that would be nice
Though the place I stream from does
tbh I have to think and sometimes talk all day, after work my brain and body doesn't function anymore
stimulation is fun until there's too much of it
my shoulders ache after a day
being at a block
cases of beef piling up
annoying customers with dumb requests
sir this is a wendy's
the cold hands
cuts
blood and fat everywhere
hard to tell if it’s mine or the cow’s
so are you a butcher or a sandwich artisan
Butcher

They also a spice master
just ask @dawn epoch
ohh spicy
I take it seriously
So obsessed he was told off by his doctor's
STOP
lol
Yeah that happened
okay this sounds interesting
irritated my intestines quite nicely, shitting mucus and blood for days
now I only eat one ghost pepper a week
lol
it's good to moderate stuff
well I had to call in sick after half a day today after I ate granola with oatmilk, super cramps, bloody diarrhea with some puking mixed in for hours
no ghost peppers there
idk I might have IBS
I usually have the runs like 4 times a week at least, never had that much pain before thoo
almost, I took the sample bucket home but forgot about it
I'm kind of in the middle of something else right now, but I'll get it sorted eventually
they did a colonoscopy on me, nothing wrong there
yeah but they can't give a diagnosis just based on that, hence the need for a poopoo sample
eugh
btw the camera going up my ass was one of the most painful things I've experienced for some reason
weird since I sometimes like stuff going in there
I can tell you it isn't the most painful thing
when you snooze it, swear a bit, and get back to bed
thank you LTT for shilling that tazer watch with an alarm setting
always quite the start to the day
well it being too late by aggressively killing off every background task
why does one need so many alarms?
I just use 3
works best for me
and I just tend to not delete them
so I have like 20 alarms that are all inactive
i got a schedule set inside the health app on my phone, i have it setup just in case, i usually wake up before the alarm goes off
yea I just had to wake up earlier than usual today
I don't always need to wake up at 5am luckily
god bless, i used to do that, now i moved to 1h later schedule
nah like 3 alarms is perfect for me
I wake up quickly
but I benefit a lot from dozing those 10 minutes
lol yeah
hz != fps
well yes
I figure I'll wait for card tech to catchup before considering a G9 57"
ngl I doubt you will get that in a current AAA title with highish settings even on a next gen TOTL card
even with DLSS 69
magic
thats so weird
It's like an all in one hub. Two computers, one of everything else.
4090>>>>
big reason was also more of a switch to ipmi for everything
or ilo/idrac whatever you wanna call it
no need to ever enter the serverroom
but it is quite useful so you can hook up multiple computers
even if you can just do pbp, you have parallel desktop features with powertoys
fuck those noisy cold and hot spaces tbh
hey two of mine are only actively hazardous
one has a danger of wastewater treament spillages that already killed multipler servers
the other one is in a room with a giant fuckoff transformer for production
thing has it's own cage and everything so you can't get too close
Why is an old game running better on a totally different architecture through two translation layers than native lmao
It just won’t launch on an Intel iGPU but works through game porting toolkit on macOS
So.. Not a huge difference?
@fair gull hey man, not sure if the right channel, after checking the date of delivery changes, does it deadass just check if it's later than midnight and then increase the delivery day by one? 😄 it seems to be ignoring weekends and everything haha
Pretty sure Tony didn't code that system
DarrelVS could tell you more
But even then I'm not sure if Darrel was responsible for that system specifically, even though he works on the web side afaik

don't forget the warehouses, shipping networks and rates
it's pretty funny to me, not really a dig at anyone, but it's legit not really rocket science to implement a check if the date falls on a weekend 🙂
https://www.arctic.de/en/P8-Max/ACFAN00286A Seems like Arctic released 80mm "Max" fans
Amazon only has like a 50% success rate in my shipping estimates lol
MSI unimpressed with 14th Gen Core series MSI made a mistake of sharing an unlisted video which has now leaked out. At the time of writing, the video was still available. Intel 14th Gen Core Series, Source: MSI This leak involves a product training video showing MSI’s latest Intel 700 motherboard series and upcoming PC […]
I want to laugh
But that's just sad

At least 14700K seems properly improved
Isn't that 13700K still like 400$ at least?
Wouldn't buy it ever, 7800X3D go brrr
we talked about graphing calcs earlier..
there is an opensource one apparently
https://www.numworks.com/
XD
Yeah this is a joke tbh, they should all be 2.0 or at least 2.1
cheaper MSRP than 7800x3d and 25% cca better performance
I love my server room, temps around 19 degrees, constant noise plugging out all human voices, peace and quiet since I am one of the few people allowed in there, ahhh
intel prepared for zen 5 or no? i wonder what will happen next year cause amd gonna have like 15% ipc boost
ipc vs perf/clock are very very different
the current best ipc chip is the n300 and its fkn slow asf, the clock is slow and the lack of cache kills the perf/clock
You didn't respond to my messages 😦
If you refine a search, it doesn't give a concrete answer
When considering the importance of IPC (Instructions Per Clock) versus performance per clock, it depends on the specific context and goals. Here are some points to consider:
IPC:
- IPC refers to the number of instructions a processor can execute in one clock cycle. It is a measure of the efficiency of the processor's architecture.
- Higher IPC ...
You can narrow down what results you want, I chose scholarly articles only
Although, using a jailbreak:
TL;DR: performance per clock (IPC) takes precedence
@prisma crag https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7fyrlzg_x9I
Are you enter the Pariah Nexus?
Learn more about the new action-packed animation due to launch on the 13th of September on Warhammer+
ipc isnt performance per clock
Wrong chat
Salamanders

ipc is instructions per cycle
it assumes infinite cache bandwidth and memory bandwidth (which sure arent the responsibility of the core designer but its still important)
the 5800x3d exactly equals the 5800x in IPC
this is why perf/clock is so much more important for gamers
Still worse than the lekker switch lol
probably better stem wobble than lekkers
Lekker 2 can always be released as a hotswap for current lekkers with good improvements
For now there's no real reason to do so I suppose, until Wooting product stack is fully released
*shit
*cowturd
yah, they are not even close to being durable enough. need to almost frame it to keep it safe lol
for most of us sure
but some people are happy with how it is
yep i know someone who works from home. its fine for him
most folks i saw with Flips in my previous job were women, who explained that normal phones dont fit in pockets
I would like to see you attempt to break a nokia 3310 in your regular use
do you ever replace a phone before it has the chance to get broken tho?
those things are the phone of choice for jihad terrorists for a reason
well then you are guaranteed to break your phone
some folks just upgrade phones when they can
i just have a rugged case and screen protector on mine. case looks worn down but phone is flawless lol
i have just a regular case, and a quick wipe makes it look flawless
...oh wtf
yah that works too. just the rugged gives me more assurance when im outside and such
I just drop my phones all the time
I've only seen the Astartes one, I've also watched a bit of the Angels of Death show
I think my SE3 has more airtime last year than I did
i try to avoid dropping phones
same but it happens once in a while, especially when im in a hurry
hehe butterfingers
estimated 5 months before samsung releases s24 series :/
xperia pro-ii unknown
iphone 15 series not expected to have a supertelephoto
sounds like you are unaware of the mdr-z1r and ier-z1r
it's "sony interactive entertainment", not the sony division known for audio
probably has something to do with the maxwell
Yeah they'll prolly be hard-pushing now for gamer branded headphones
I hope there's still room for hi-fi
they better not mess with anything else, Audeze's quality has been good since they are mostly hand made in california
that would have been sony electronics
"noise cancelling tech" that's a general blanket term
all noise cancelling headphones rely on the same underlying technique to remove sound
actually its probably for the DSP
audeze is known for making awful hardware with excellent dsp
eh not really
am i confusing them with another company?
audeze doesn't even use dsp, they physically are unable to for their hifi headphones
This intelligent voice enhancement ensures human speech remains the focus of the conversation. With ClaerityAI comes clear communication. Try it today!
maybe this tech
that's just noise suppression
we're talking about noise cancelling, they both work completely differently
not really, audeze is known for their planars but there are other companies making competent planars
Hifiman for example
thats how hyperx did it
that part would be more up sony electronics aisle
they using audze drivers
hyperx did nothing
hyperx uses takstar drivers
and no dsp
since when did they start using audeze drivers?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UyN1TACCbHE
this is the foundation on how anc works on headphones, by using a inverse phase signal you can effectively cancel noise
hyperX didn't do anything, looks like they just made a deal with HyperX to include their drivers
yea but thats a rebrand of an audeze product not a new product
at least the cloud 2s are a new chassis
like that really looks like a rebrand of the penrose?
good headphones
afaik Sony has best ANC already?
So maybe Audeze will stay good as well
bose still has the crown, just they dont put it in their consumer products
we were talking about patents and that if u wanted to use the planar magnetic driver you would have to go to audeze to get them.
I only showed an example that thats what hyperx did
thats blatantly not true
planar magnetics are not owned by audeze
and never will be
audeze has some special sauce, but its mostly dsp and tuning, and others have done tuning just fine
I was still only responding to what @prisma crag wrote about the patents
where do they use it?
There have been many audio companies that do planar drivers
Hifiman, 7hz, Moondrop, Meze, just to name a few
the aviation headsets
Actually I'm not sure if they actually make their own
They prolly source them from the factories
Very few audio companies actually make the drivers
takstar manufacturers planar drivers
Most of them are just sourced generic ones and tuned up
and audeze used some (takstar units) in the distant past
audeze afaik doesn't make their drivers in house at their california location
they source them from whatever factory they have ties to
are those even the official aviation units?
the ones ive seen are usually larger and sturdier looking
tho i suppose thats a small plane not a jet liner
hunh
yea i dont see them advertising a higher end unit
interesting
yea but the units i remember didnt have bluetooth at all
definetly were old units tho
well no
just the high performance anc market
"Pulse Elite is an over-ear headset that offers "lossless audio", and comes with a built-in retractable microphone. It also boasts "AI-enhanced noise rejection", which aims to eliminate background noise from your voice channel. In the box with the headset comes a charging hanger, so you can store your headphones nicely and ensure they're always powered."
"Both devices use "custom-designed planar magnetic drivers", which we won't pretend to understand but appears to be a Good Thing. Apparently, the Pulse Explore earbuds will be one of the first sets to utilise this tech."
The buds probably sound shit knowing audeze's past for iems
"Both headsets will also take advantage of a new technology called PlayStation Link that brings low latency and lossless audio when used with the PS5 and new PlayStation Portal game streaming device."
wonder if the playstation link usb dongle supports pcs?
Hopefully audeze gets an upgraded software/firmware department now, takes them months to push any updates for maxwell
extreme doubt
my wf1000xm4 took a year and a half to get multipoint
wish the maxwell wasn't so heavy, would be great for on the go use
The headphones are only $150 US, wonder how they sound considering that really low price
afaik the maxwell is already mass produced as with all of audezes non hifi stuff
MM-100 out yet?
nah, still preorder on audezes site
" Pulse Elite and Pulse Explore can simultaneously connect to a PlayStation Link supported device (PS5, PC, Mac, or PlayStation Portal) and a Bluetooth supported device"
PlayStation link USB dongle may be uac!
uac?
USB audio class
Aka the standard usb
oh
major alienware vibes
Who cares if it sounds good 🤷
Especially for gaming
"PlayStation Link wireless audio technology uses a proprietary codec to transmit audio data over a wireless connection.
This codec is designed to minimize latency and ensure that the audio is delivered in lossless quality. The PlayStation Link wireless audio technology is compatible with both 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi networks."
Sure but wireless is nice
you can't add hardware functionality after the fact
you *may be able to depending on how the decoding is but that's unlikely as it seems this is only for 2.4ghz connections
not over bluetooth
Maxwell already has dongle
How are we to know they aren't using the same codec under the hood?
Unless Maxwell dongle is just Bluetooth?
Remember many "2.4ghz" connections are just customized bluetooth
what
making a ico file with all the different icons in it
oh fun
for what?
ok that worked
Whats that
windows .ico files are what's used for icons on the os
they support having multiple files in them
Musicbee
The MM-100 have been delayed to September according to posts
You use musicbee to play music or?
yes
sigh
hardware drm for the os? why
whomst the heck is mispology
yep
FPGA people
rhetorical question quin
had no clue until today either
same but thats the problem
are they actually useful?
depends for how much they got them
fpgas dont have the capacity to run LLMs and thats the current big thing
oh god imagine a WSE scale FPGA dedicated to running LLMs
idk if its for LLMs or just other projects that are solid, maybe not as hype bubbling but actually useful for more ares for years to come
have you actually gone and downloaded one of the easy to run llama derivatives?
llama 13b chat 4 bit quantized is about as fast as me typing (when running) on a 3090 and is incredibly useful without fine tuning
even if its not transformers, llms are here to stay
well yes it will be around but I still think its a bubble that needs to come down where other areas might not explode but dont need to come down in 1-2 years
🤷 i dont really care about the finances of the companies currently involved
im just looking forward to the future
where we are now for llms is the token ring era of the "internet"
well the current companies care about finances and make acquisitions based on them xD
sure but i wanna see progress on hardware
if we can get a chip that runs 10b+ parameter llms at a million tokens per second rather than 20, that would be huge progress
wait for mi300 numbers then if that shows progress
idk if that meets your numbers I just meant wait for its numbers to see progress in general

again tho i wanna see the dedicated hardware like we got for image processing (ISPs not gpus)
PIM tech may help a ton with that
yea vex thats what the half of us not talking about cars were talking about
Running motors at higher voltages is nothing new, and has been done for a long time.
It just isn't the most sane thing to do most of the time.
yes

Just watched it
Oooo another neat feature
You can stream audio to the Pixel Tablet when it's docked now by holding a phone close to it
its a shame its not using standard chromecast
google should just make it possible for any android with google play to act as a chromecast receiver
never understood why you couldn’t stream sound to any of your apple devices either
yup 😦
windows supports bluetooth a2dp but i havent seen it on android natively
samsung has their fancy pants local sound streaming
but yea a2dp receiver on the windows store, allows you to pick any bluetooth device you have paired to your pc and try to connect to it as an audio receiver
used it with my work pc to connect my phone and have my audio come through my work headset
that’s interesting, gonna have to try
playing music from phone seems a bit more convenient
yee
when working at home I have my audio system, but at work it wasnt ez
eventually i acquired enough monitors to throw music on a 5th screen, but until then i used this app
its not a smooth experience, but it works
just not very convenient for me to alt-tab from fullscreen games to change songs
takes a bit too long
Android supports streaming audio to any other smart device that can play audio
not to proprietary smart devices
or original chromecasts
or android tv boxes
most of those require specific app support
Fucking finally....
This is a feature I am extremely jealous of Spotify for
https://9to5google.com/2023/08/24/youtube-music-live-lyrics/
that is definitely one of the videos
or like any other streaming service?
Apple music and Amazon and Deezer and Tidal and shit have real time lyrics??
bandcamp doesnt, or SoundCloud
deezer and tidal do
dunno about apple music or amazon
iirc ios 17 will have lyrics on the lockscreen for apple music, no idea why would anyone want that
i dunno i just use spotify, i notice minimal difference flac vs 320kbps mp3
tidal costs ~10% more and artists don't get completely shat on
AMD confirms first FSR3 games The long-overdue update for FSR3 is finally here. AMD officially announces support for its latest upscaling technology in two games. The new version of FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR), known as FSR3, introduces a feature called “Fluid Motion Frames,” which can be compared to AMD’s equivalent of DLSS3 Frame Generat...
a tidal view is like 2.5 times the revenue (with 2018 numbers)
I wonder what the benchmarks for FSR3 will be
I know the spotify number has not changed
I highly doubt they will compete with DLSS3 let alone with NV getting ahead with 3.5
and have not heard about the tidal number changing
and spotify has supported those rates getting absolutely shit for smaller artists
by not calling out larger artists when they make people farm listens while sleeping
while doing so for smaller artists
It would be absolutely amazing if FSR3 somehow becomes a tech that is so damn good that even Nvidia will scurry to match it with DLSS 3.5.1
Cause AMD engineers somehow got a stroke of genius
last i heard yt is around 0.008 or 0.009 nowadays
so still more than twice as good
ofc most of that is all from just usually some smaller artist calculating numbers
dont think google publishes it
at least for services where anyone and their mum can sign up
something like tidal is not riddled with random artists usually
have not missed much personally
outside dj sets
those re typically youtube only
and maybe soundcloud
Maybe not but at least you don't need a fucking 40 series card
Xbox Music is a thing still????
2018 data
MS tried to get into music 3 times I think
oohhhhh
befre it was groove music
there are a few older ones that I cann't recommend
cerapad kin could be good tho
func 1030 rough surface
the original corepad
U can also try corepad control skatez
won't do much
i never used the kin pad or the control skates
would prob be faster on most pads
So no idea how they perform
X-raypad Thunder9 is a control pad too i think?
new desk looking cold
Magnus desk worth it?
hello I have a problem with key shortcuts, for example if I press ctrl+r with the old keyboard I opened the mode to control the speed of the video in davinci resolve mind now with 60h and if I press this key combination nothing happens, I have to set it I manually somehow?
That dosent sound right. If you do the shortcut with on screen keyboard, dose it work
I also checked in the software that it actually has ctrl on that key and everything seems correct, but nothing the key combination no longer opens the video speed control
yea, built solid. just mounted my pc to the table leg. looks mint.
I put my PC on a shelf above my desk lol
If you want to mount stuff no
Oh wait magnus is not Ikea
Disregard gamer desks, acquire used office desks with motors.
Much cheaper and better built.
100$ for one that'll outlast your PC
sometimes i like to stand up, but then i might as well go walk a bit lol
The flexibility is great.
I often stand up for a couple of hours while answering emails.
Eh fair enough
And typically having a motor means the structure and tabletop are quality. Since they have to follow spec for more weight
I just can't imagine having to plug in one more thing into the extension power cables
Instead of those cardboard mix tabletops you often see.
There's like 2 x5 extension cables near my desk and they have 9 slots occupied ffs
Mine has a cable duct in the I beam going across the table connecting the legs.
many have built in power strips, the entire table moves up and down so you cant really have the power cables hanging off
So simply having some cables with some length and flex means I don't have to worry about issues there. The Desktop is on the tabletop, so everything connected follows the motion.
Tbf I also am rather wary for the price of adjustable desks
Good ones are easily well over 300$
That's why I specifically mention the used market.
Normal standing desk, or a corner one? I got mine for 30$ or so
used high quality > new low quality
I get the advantages but I like my corner desk
Both of* my used desks were obsoleted by offices doing spring cleaning for new models.
And I spent about 100$ on each.
What kind of offices would even buy these kind of desks
Quite a luxury workplace
Most of them?
Around here they are the norm due to various workplace health regulations and such.
even the most callous of workplaces have them, they increase productivity
Top right example is very common in banks and office spaces.
That desk is 47€ btw.
Motor and everything
Seems in my city there's a whole of.. 2 offers both 200€ and above
Then again unless there are corner automatic desks, I am not interested
I love my corner desk, so much more space than traditional ones
Those exist though leas common.
GF's is a corner desk we shortened into an rectangle.
Literally downgrading lol
It was way too big for her.
Tbf my "corner desk" is a megabudget solution that some company did by combining 2 normal desks, and slapping on a screwed on slanted part as the connector for the 2
I mean, it works
Was like 30€
Not the prettiest thing
there are digital watches that arent smart 😛
and i like that my watch rings whenever i get too stressed and I can meditate for a bit
aint gonna get a heartrate monitor in an analog watch
ye
normalize double wristing watches
privacy concerns arent a problem if you just use it as a watch + real time heart rate monitor
just dont use the long term tracking features
https://www.withings.com/fi/en/watches Here's another hybrid
i wear my gshock on the left, apple watch on right which has theater mode enabled and every possible notification other than very urgent ones disabled
you look like a nerd, but it’s best of both worlds
i was looking into smart rings, but the prices are absurd and it barely does anything
for me its just really nice. my next class room number and time pops up on it, really nice instead of having to pull up my phone. just these little things along with fitness tracking and calling etc ahah
you are aware that there are self contained smartwatches?
where you dont need to connect them to your phone
they just track their things on their own
store data internally
yes
all of those issues are addressed by not connecting them to a phone
”feeling always connected” you might as well leave your phone at home and use it as a landline
Having to charge it every night? The one I have last a week with activities? But yeah fair points 😄
lol i like it. considered the same while ago but ended up just going with one
peace
yea mine lasts 2 weeks after using it for 2 years just about?
but yeah fair points, it’s not for everyone
no issue, people like different things
my apple watch se lasts me 2 days, but i charge it every night because i use it as a nightstand clock
and i wear my watch while sleeping
Same
mine lasts 2 to 3 ish but its on basically all the time except when sleeping and showering
its a different use case
yah depends how you use it i suppose
its a real shame that the smartwatch has been publicized as a device that connects to a phone
imo its a phone extension, not actually a smartwatch
it should be self contained to be considered smart
but thats not what society has decided :/
i mean yes, but in reality it can be very independent, for example with an esim
i can leave my phone at home and the watch will be just fine for my use cases
the apple watch is a brick if you dont own an iphone
the garmin watches are fully featured
it handles calling, messaging, tracking, and my callendar personally its enough for me
sure but my phone does that
but of course my iphone needs to connect to it at some point
but im mainly talking about bringing only the watch when out running or walking
otherwise im fine with the phone too
ye
and the devices that can do that without connecting to a phone ever are smarter
yeah they are nice
the garmins you can wire up to the computer to a program, you can sync over wifi direct to a website on top of connecting to a phone
yah ill say this, if i was more into extreme sports and away for a longer period, garmin beats apple
the problem is the apple is a brick without the iphone
i mean most apple devices are somewhat limited without the ecosystem lol
and the iphone is a very limiting device by design
but i suppose if you like their devices, its okay
airpods is also quite limited on non apple devices
"i mean most apple devices are... limited..."
Corrected
imo depends on the use cases, like if you are just doing web browsing, doesnt really matter that you cant sideload apps or whatever lol
the idevices rely on you changing your habits to the way that apple invisions you doing things
banning sideloading is just a symptom
you took unabomber manifesto too seriously /s
Personally I like them, they’re simple and do what I need. But yeah I get that Apple doesn’t fit for all
sure
my problem is the ethos of the devices themselves
its an extremely authoritarian ethos
"my way or the highway"
Oh yeah just to name repair ability for example, they’re no good
again tho just a symptom
Yea I think it’s just, they want to design everything their way
thats the underlying issue imo
So the byproduct would be just accept whatever they decide
yep
and thats extremely antihuman imo
what happened to this company https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VtvjbmoDx-I
http://www.mac-history.net/apple-history-tv/ads/2011-07-12/1984-the-famous-super-bowl-spot
"1984" is an American television commercial which introduced the Apple Macintosh personal computer for the first time. It was conceived by Steve Hayden, Brent Thomas and Lee Clow at Chiat/Day, Venice, produced by New York production company Fairbanks Film...
I’ll watch it in a bit, brb
Lol I know about it. It’s just I’m with people right now so I can’t watch it on loudspeaker
you dont have to watch it again but its the sentiment
is there a setting for the wooting that deactivates a button at a certain actuationpoint when pressed down ?
DKS for example
Yah I get the point of it. But I’m curious to know what do you think of some companies also following Apple by not including the charge brick, 3.5 and sd card slot so on
removing features isnt breaking out of the norms...
https://www.gsmarena.com/sony_xperia_1_v-12263.php
also this is what i think of that
Personally I think the added revenue for them out-weights anything else lol
Yea I really like Sony for that
I’d move to Sony if I were to choose from an android phone
yep
there are different options tho
i refuse to downgrade from my supertelephoto that is ostensibly superhuman
real sad bc sony could do it, they just chose not to to keep the overall quality up
Are they not on par with others quality wide? Mkbhd’s reviews on their phones seem pretty positive
Haven’t had a chance to test them really myself
oh they are on par, but i use the 20-100x zoom on my phone a ton
and only samsung and huawei have even resonable quality at that distance
wait no xiaomi not huawei
oh i see
yeah telephoto can be nice for stuff
especially when i am at the far back of the lecture hall
i dont wanna have to compromise
and i very much imagine that the xperia pro-ii is gonna have a 3x-9x optical zoom
if they dont, i wont get it simple as that
makes sense if you value the zoom
yup, now that i have it its beyond great, i dont wanna go back
have to go, nice talking to you
👍 have fun
you too

Funny, I knew 7800XT will be 499$
Wasn't sure their product stack even needed a 7700XT
what
Now, question remains, will they obsolete the GRE, or will the GRE obsolete the 7800XT
And 7700XT will be the "value option"
the gre is a china only model
Cause there's really no space performance wise between GRE and things like 6800XT at this price point for it to be 499$ and still be considered a good option
it wasnt supposed to exist in the west
Either it matches or beats GRE, or is just meh
ignore the gre its not for your market
Why do you talk so much about the GRE?
a west release and pricing are not intentional
Cause it's a product in the product stack?
649$, where 6800XT was
Yeah, if it can't easily be found it might as well not exist here
the gre is made to avoid sanctions
What, the GRE?
Well I can't find individual models but the prebuilts with GRE are pretty compelling value
its as big a gpu as they can sell without hitting legal gpu limits
Some GRE's on aliexpress but meh
vex
smh
amd did not release the gre for your market
its not part of the product stack
On semiconductor news, LK-99 is back to the newsfront for some reason
Seems they are doubling down that there is evidence is it superconducting
Starfield is not $33, its $33 worth of turkish lira while in turkey
for example
We'll see how the original samples are peer reviewed
maybe they had something there
theres no evidence that it is superconducting
Ngl Frank, you have lied plenty before, not sure if I should trust you
But eh I haven't looked into the topic much and Quintosh seems to agree that AMD isn't forcing anyone into exclusivity, so fair enough
Tbh kinda surprised the FSR3 announcements have nothing to say about Starfield
Did they give us any dates on 7800XT reviews?
Watched a GN breakdown on slideshow specs but didn't hear anything on them getting cards
its very unlikely that amd is forcing anyone
but nvidia wasnt "forcing" anyone to be in their bs gpu program it was just wink wink nudge nudge
thx very much got it now
also "nothing stopping them" doesnt mean that amd isnt providing monetary or support incentives if they dont
they could to it, but it would have a downside for them without azor having to lie
not saying this is happening, but you cant trust it to not be happening
keep in mind its a fused off china edition
they very well could have fused off features like nvidia did with the a800
It’s also a bit weird of a conclusion saying it’s little evolution of a functioning vs a broken product
the a800 on paper is an a100 but it has features and clock speeds cut down just enough to comply with the restrictions
Ah they are finally launching the all-in-one switch
September 6th
I guess they closely tied it to FSR3 to work better together
Wonder what anti lag+ is
I hope it's more than just a switch and there's more to it
Anti lag we know
Same thing as Nvidia's new reflex?
hdr 🤷
What's even the hype on HDR10+?
doesnt have licensing costs
its also able to enable itself apparently but i dont buy that
So, I understand the HDR10(+) vs Dolby Vision comparison in movies
Why would I need that in games?
if theres an advantage in movies why wouldnt there be an advantage in games?
But they have nothing in common?
no
the entire everything
bright objects will be bright and dim objects will be dim
torches. flames, flashlights, the sun
shadow detail
Imagine getting flashbanged in a game and it actually making you blind because SO BRIGHT
thats not an hdr thing thats just monitors being bright
Kinda like sRGB I am guessing?
thats missing the point
I thought it was limited to motion picture like movies only
Yeah but with proper HDR there's a decent contrast ratio so it'll be that much more intense, no?
actually thats not true
HDR started in movies
Where does the HDR10 spec lie
its an image tech
its a method of storing data
