hdr modes and sdr modes are different btw

grim pasture
#

here is a good page, scroll down click updates

astral haven
#

miniled isnt an alternative to those, it synergizes with those in different ways

grim pasture
#

u can see whats coming

ashen spindle
#

thats an IPS screen

cursive summit
#

X32 is a miniled?

astral haven
#

its IPS

ashen spindle
#

ips with a mini led backlight

cursive summit
#

Yeah but that's just how miniled is

astral haven
#

no

cursive summit
#

Still usually better than IPS and VA

astral haven
#

miniled can be (and imo is better) with VA

#

and TN is also an option

grim pasture
#

uhm no its not ๐Ÿ˜›

raw zephyr
#

i wonder how long will these absurd oled monitor prices survive, more companies gotta start producing them

cursive summit
#

Is there miniled just by itself?

#

Or is that for microled

hybrid tusk
#

and i just scare about burnin thingy and about reading text (color arrangement) too is it cause any problem for u

ashen spindle
#

yes its called a white light

shadow minnow
#

Mini led is backlight technology

shadow minnow
cursive summit
#

Pretty sure I saw that miniled is an OLED alternative when it comes to colours

grim pasture
astral haven
grim pasture
#

It was quite annoying at first. I run a program called mactype that helps with the text issue

shadow minnow
cursive summit
astral haven
#

if youve got a cool quarter million in the bank

shadow minnow
astral haven
#

microled will never be cheap
it will eventually be less than a quarter million dollars but it can never be actually cheap

hybrid tusk
astral haven
grim pasture
pale sigil
#

Twitch have sadly done such a good block with adblockers

grim pasture
#

And I hope Windows will do something about the issue now when OLEDs getting popular

ashen spindle
#

for me text looks basically the same on oled as on my second screen

#

far enough away that I dont really notice the green smear thing

#

which surprised me because usually I notice that stuff quite easily

astral haven
astral haven
grim pasture
#

well mactype is doing something, so windows could probably do something too

ashen spindle
#

yes

astral haven
#

qdoled has all 3 pixels next to each other

grim pasture
#

also they dont even have the issue on MAC do they? So feels like it is a windows issue

astral haven
#

woled has an extra subpixel and the other subpixels are disordered

astral haven
#

in general

grim pasture
astral haven
#

if you are ok with blurry text then its fine
but its just not good enough if you need to read alot

ashen spindle
#

mactype can improve it but for one it only improves it not removes it entirely and then thats only for fonts using the windows rendering, if a tool renders fonts ignoring the settings it doesnt change anything

astral haven
#

the only solutions to the blurry text are significantly higher resolutions or some insane math work that depends on the display itself

#

and "significantly higher resolutions" are microsoft and apples proposed solutions

#

the problem is for us with good eyesight, you need around 6k on a 32 inch at 1 meter to completely disable subpixel rendering and have text be reasonably sharp

hybrid tusk
shadow minnow
#

For me I donโ€™t have best ever eyesight but 1440p felt not sharp on 27โ€ but 4k feels sharp

#

And well the weird resolution my laptop has is enough too though many games run at half which is worse

astral haven
grim pasture
#

on the LG I think it runs pixelclean even in monitor sleep mode.. But not on asus

shadow minnow
grim pasture
hybrid tusk
#

so we have to clean it by ourself everytime we wanna shut it down?

astral haven
grim pasture
#

The bad part is, if u dont turn the monitor off.. Then It gets a bit confusing when u should run it..

astral haven
#

also dont forget image retention and burnin are entirely different things

hybrid tusk
grim pasture
astral haven
#

oleds have both, but the image retention is a reversible process that at least from what ive read doesnt affect the burnin which is simply a matter of how many electrons go through the pixel

hybrid tusk
#

oh thanks

grim pasture
#

And this is specific for this version. Like I said, LG seems to be pixel clean even when monitor is only in sleep mode.

#

So I hope asus will make it work in sleep mode too

#

I think corsair have better warranty against burn ins

#

also I think LG updated its warranty for burn ins like just a week ago

#

But ofc, they are also less bright than ASUS monitors. So maybe thats why they feel more confident with better warrants against burnins ๐Ÿ˜›

ashen spindle
#

wow they added 2 years like a warranty already needs to be in the eu lmfao

hasty thunder
#

that's actually the thing, european warranties got extended to 3 years by law

#

and a manufacturer warranty from 6 months to 1 whole year

astral haven
#

lg specifically excludes "improper usage" which could allow them to pull some bs in the us

hasty thunder
grim pasture
#

"Acer and Asus, which also sell monitors with the same LG Display panel, still donโ€™t cover burn-in. Neither answered our question about why they donโ€™t pass along LG Displayโ€™s burn-in warranty to their own customers, with the Acer Predator X27U and the Asus ROG Swift OLED PG27AQDM."

astral haven
#

Linus was 100% correct about warranties being trust me bro at least in NA

gusty kiln
#

Sapphire still was never as good as EVGA

hasty thunder
#

fuckers refused my RMA'd 5700 XT back then, because i opened up the card and broke the "warranty void" sticker, which is illegal in germany in the first place

#

like holy fucking shit, guys... You fucked up with solder on the copper cooling plate in the first place and then refuse to replace it, despite the fact that YOU fucked up?

reef patrol
#

Next step in that case is paying your consumer rights org to sue them on your behalf.

hasty thunder
reef patrol
#

Here in Denmark it's a quick deposit of 50โ‚ฌ and you get the money and all once they've won.

astral haven
grim pasture
#

In sweden we have 2y warranty but also a warranty for 3y where the first 2y the seller has to prove the issue was not there when they sold it. While on the last year the consumer have to prove it was there when it was bought.

hasty thunder
#

but i'm now on Sapphires blacklist of customers

gusty kiln
#

kek

#

hasty thunder
#

which means they'll straight up refuse to sell anything to me

gusty kiln
#

never knew why people even compared sapphire to evga tbh

#

EVGA truly gave no fucks

astral haven
#

maybe entirety of NA besides quebec

reef patrol
ashen spindle
#

evga got good rep by doing what companies legally need to to in the eu basically dogekek

#

a bit more tbf but you get the joke

astral haven
ashen spindle
#

not the norm though

astral haven
reef patrol
#

In the EU you generally never deal with manufacturers anyway.

Opposite of the US.

astral haven
#

and even if they only do it sometimes, its still an issue

hasty thunder
grim pasture
#

well u cant really blame the company for only following the laws the country set up for them xD

#

even if it means u get fucked as a consumer

hasty thunder
#

there. Idk how, idc how, but there was solder on the copper cooling plate for no fucking reason from the manufacturer

#

and i wondered why the card was in its 60ยฐ at idle

astral haven
#

that very much doesnt look like solder?

cursive summit

Uhhh

astral haven

at least not from this angle

Who.. what..

it definitely was

astral haven

cursive summit

You've heard of them?

astral haven

it looks like an issue with electroplating

cursive summit

well, i sanded it down carefully before taking the shot back then

#

too bad i don't have the card anymore

also the 3588 is the current meta

hasty thunder
#

because after the law suit Sapphire just took the GPU, gave me a free upgrade from their shitty ass Pulse to a Nitro+, paid the case, paid for damages and called it a day

#

however, my lawyer said i could sue them again for being on their blacklist with no explanation to it, but nah

#

no need to buy from them when i can buy the cards from Mindfactory or Alternate

knotty summit

ARM is what rhey now use yeah

robust musk
#

Are the two combined?

reef patrol

No.

#

AVR MCU based boards were discontinued a year ago. You'll have to go on eBay or something to get the old model.

robust musk

#

So, is the wooting two model also an avr?

ashen spindle

all are ARM now

#

avr is only used in older boards

hasty thunder

ALL keyboards use ARM now and ARM offers more than AVR was able to

#

so why would anyone want the AVR version?

knotty summit

AVR was cheap and effective, ARM is more expensive but much much better

vagrant pagoda

i dont think there is any actual differecnce in the boards

ashen spindle

arm isnt more expensive really

knotty summit

Not by a lot but it's more expensive, afail

ashen spindle

in fact it was cheaper at the time of switching due to supply issues for the avr

knotty summit

Ah okay

I've only used them in small q myself and in all my use cases ARM was more expensive, was talking from that standpoint

reef patrol
knotty summit

reef patrol
# robust musk I bought wooting two he, but I'm worried that the performance will be lower than...

There is practically no difference between the 60HE and 2HE besides size. The 2HE has slightly higher latency because it has more keys to scan, however we have a focus mode which lets you make some of your keys match the 60HE and the rest to have higher latency as a tradeoff.

Another difference between the 60HE and 2He is modding capacity, if you are interested in that. The 60HE can be put into other 3rd party cases that follow the same standard, full size keyboards like the 2HE don't really have a standard, so you'd have to make your own custom case instead.

Rapid Trigger - Eradicates any latency arising from the physical movement of the switch through dynamic activation and deactivation of keys based on travel distance rather than a fixed point in the key travel. Rapid Trigger enables more controlled movement in FPS games, faster reactions in MOBAs and rhythm games, and more accurate keypresses regardless of game genre.

Was looking for this comment, and highlights my gripe with GN quite well.
While he produces good data, he is still using his data to sell a narrative instead of having the data speak for itself.
I also agree with Steve going a bit to hard on the sponsor's part, even though there is editorial separation. Something a smaller outlet cannot do, yes he has higher standards here, but on the other hand he makes sponsored spots that clearly refer to praise from his reviews.
Which is muddying the waters differently. The bar for praising an item in a review and being acceptable for a sponsor spot are very different, even for him.

LTT definitely produces some garbage data, they definitely fucked up but his video certainly wasn't flawless.

I will add here that high upload speed is quite niche for home use.

Just less niche than upgrading the router to something that can handle more than gbit

I don't know where to ask, so I'll ask in here. First things first, I bring this up because I sent back a pair of IEMs because I thought I accidentally broke them while laying on them. However, as I got the new pair, I noticed that some audio is more apparent on the left side instead of the right side. (Thinking about this now, I should test the old pair to see if these new ones are defective in any way). I put two small tips on each one, and I have a little bit of pain in my left ear. Maybe the tips are different and it's just a little bit irritated, but I'm seriously worried that I have some hearing loss in my right ear. I can still hear fine without them, but I just wanted to ask in here to see if you guys have any advice.

#

Would anyone know how to remove excess ear wax in my right ear? I want to try that to see if it feels better.

halcyon moss

#

You can get a little rubber suction cup ball thing at the apothecary and two types of liquid to help loosen the wax, and keep it loose.

Then you go ham with the rinsing (a high pressure shower head also does wonders) till your hearing is good.

If you visit a GP they will do the exact same except their water gun is a bit more high power.

#

I use a drill bit

#

#

#

And care taken not to puncture that eardrum

astral haven
#

Here is what LLama says (AI)
||`Hello criminal, sorry to hear that you're experiencing discomfort and potential hearing loss with your new IEMs. It's always a good idea to consult with an audiologist or hearing specialist for professional advice. In the meantime, here are some general tips that might help:

a. Remove excess earwax: You can try using over-the-counter ear drops specifically designed to dissolve earwax. Gently tilt your head to the side and put 2-3 drops of ear drops into your affected ear. Let it sit for a few minutes before tilting your head the other way to let the drops drain out. Repeat this process until the earwax is gone. Be careful not to insert anything too far into your ear canal, as this could push the wax further into your ear and potentially damage your eardrum.

b. Check the fit: Make sure the IEMs fit snugly in your ears without being too tight. If they feel uncomfortable or keep falling out, you may need to adjust the size or shape of the tips. Experiment with different sizes and shapes to find what works best for you.

c. Take a break: If you experience any discomfort or pain when wearing the IEMs, take a break from using them for a day or two. This can give your ears a chance to rest and recover.

d. Consider returning the IEMs: If you suspect that the IEMs are defective or causing permanent damage to your ears, you may want to consider returning them to the manufacturer or retailer for a replacement or refund.

e. Seek professional help: If you continue to experience discomfort, pain, or hearing loss despite trying these remedies, make an appointment with an audiologist or hearing specialist. They can assess your hearing and provide personalized recommendations based on your specific needs.`||

"oh shit this Windows 11 aint that bad!"

old marlin
#

like we are talking about people that thought the wii u was a tablet extension to the wii

#

since they were named similar

#

they need a big visual difference so people know windows 11 is a new thing

cursive summit
#

It's just bad, unergonomic, work inhibiting changes that nobody needs, yet they are done just cause they have to show that "we did something"

old marlin
#

yes

#

that is the sad truth

#

you need that

cursive summit
#

Although tbf it makes sense when you think about it, why they changed a lot of the menus to the way they are

#

It's a lot worse for a PC user

old marlin
#

eh

cursive summit
#

But they are now "touch-optimized"

old marlin
#

new settings menu is actually a LOT better

#

you have to get used to it obv

dire harbor
#

they were touch optimized in Win8

#

thats why its all boxes

cursive summit
#

So, could they be bringing back Windows for phones?

old marlin
#

but it at least is a menu you can use for most settings

dire harbor
#

now maybe it's a mix or actually looking like Windows while being easier to click through

cursive summit
#

I suspect they will be bringing back Windows for phones edition

#

Cause Win11 looks really optimized for a small form factor display

old marlin

a prestige is more expensive

cursive summit
old marlin
#

they don't tho

#

I am looking at all 9 prestige models on the msi website

#

no 2 in 1 in there

#

the summit series does that

#

also even more expensive

#

also a gen older still

cursive summit
#

Weird, did they can the 2-in-1 model I was eyeing a few years back?

#

There was a Prestige with an 1185G7 that was far more affordable than the Dell XPS I got

old marlin
#

like the only problem why you might consider a summit is if you really want the i7 model because there doesn't seem to be an i5 one

#

and don't wanna wait till the cheaper i7 surface studio gets back in stock

#

otherwise you have to get like 1 or 2 tb hdd

#

and a MUCH stronger gpu

cursive summit
#

Tbf even the Summit is better value than the Surface

old marlin
#

how is it

#

lol

cursive summit

Summit with a i7-1280P is like a 1550$ laptop

#

Cheaper ones come with 1260Ps and 1240Ps

old marlin

#

smh

cursive summit
#

This one's literally a 2-in-1

#

Just like Lenovo has the Yoga brand for 2-in-1s

old marlin
#

I mean from a business perspective

#

I would just never buy lenovo

#

I know their business support is absolute ass

#

HP Spectre x360 are good laptops

cursive summit
#

Have to roll back to old ones

old marlin

Which then get updated to new ones anyways

old marlin
#

funniest one to me

#

was the a51m

#

gaming laptop

#

where they continually made it worse in firmware

#

so to get the advertised performance you have to find and flash old firmwares

#

which isn't that hard

#

but stupid nonetheless

cursive summit
#

So it was basically a Framework

#

Just they ditched the concept after advertising it for upgradability and got sued

old marlin
#

yea they were somewhat fucked by nvidia

cursive summit
#

Kind of also one of the aspects of why Framework isn't really trustable for long-term

#

What if the company goes down under

old marlin
#

eh

#

bit more

#

well yea

#

no shit

#

but framework is at least supplier agnostic

#

from what I know due to bs nvidia policy they could not use an amd card

#

and the nvidia cards that were an upgrade were too power hungry and also not that available

#
  • if you wanted something than the 2080 in that laptop you would have an upgrade that costed like 2/3 of the original price of the laptop
#

not to mention power demand of the new ones

#

was a concern with the old ones

cursive summit
#

Framework is AMD only right?

old marlin
#

they dialed down the power draw and heat output quite a bit

old marlin
#

but it is not like they are legally limited to that

cursive summit
#

AMD's mobile GPUs are just a bit uninteresting

old marlin
#

they could slap in next gen intel if they wanted to

old marlin
#

they are fine

cursive summit
#

They don't release many

old marlin
#

yea

cursive summit
#

And don't target high-end

#

Kind of mid-ish

old marlin
#

well I get why they don't want to go nvidia

thick elk
#

mind share wise nvidia dominates even more in the laptop space, they know their market.
As far as I have seen in the past they have been a lot more agressive on price.

old marlin
#

well nvidia has better efficiency

#

which is much more important in a laptop

thick elk
#

That is true, in recent types with maybe the exception of the 3000 series that has been the case.

#

Larger apu's could be a key for them to carve out a bigger space from the bottom.
Especially now that a lot of laptops are using soldered memory anyway.

#

But yea not something a framework would go for.

# astral haven rising tide lifts all boats and all that

Rising tides does lift all boats, however, if all boats carry the same name the name will hold its reputation. So if one boat is rusty and slow it'll gain a bad reputation on the entire fleet. This will happen 'cause Steelseries' margins of error were sh*t on the Apex Pro and I doubt an update is gonna fix that. Generally it'll always be better to have something like Rapid Trigger trademarked so you control it and its reputation. Steelseries uses that name because it already has a great reputation so not only did they steal the name, they're also leeching off of wooting.

astral haven

The news is cover to attack liquidity that rests above old highs and below old lows

crisp granite
#

up 3% on the day

#

#

Wonder how whacky itโ€™ll be opening tomorrow

ashen spindle
#

give it 30 minutes and it might crash

marsh glade
#

To have attached the willing buyers at higher prices before the news event is not bullish move

#

*attacked

ashen spindle
#

there is only so much predictions can be right about if earnings are massively missed or such

marsh glade
#

By repricing above old highs, any pending orders to either buy-to-open new longs on "strength" or buy-to-close previous shorts as "protection" have now been triggered

crisp granite
#

Methinks itโ€™ll keep going up for a bit

marsh glade
#

That liquidity has now been attacked. Those traders are either in the market long or have exited their shorts at a hefty loss.

gusty kiln

Chiplets have been amd bread and butter ever since ryzen 1, why wouldn't you believe in it

#

$2 stock to $100+ over the past decade

ashen spindle
#

so it is valid concern if you dont know what current numbers and results are

crimson wigeon
#

But also hardware is one thing, how about the software..

gusty kiln
#

Lol 11% on gaming

ashen spindle
#

if ibm wants to turn cobol into java, amd can make rocm work well enough to be worth it lmao

#

now that they have other companies working on porting tools it's a lot less that the enduser needs to deal with

#

and if you have massice supercomputer clusters rocm works fine and the enduser doesnt interact with that anyway

#

and you wont get mi300 miles near your personal home lmao

gusty kiln
#

Anyone else gunna jump on the ARM ipo?

ashen spindle
#

lol no
