RTX 3070, 1100 euros

#

I keep forgetting that mini-PCs nowadays are actually rather capable

#

Before they used to just be with iGPUs

solemn remnant
#

yes

cursive summit
#

Ah, okay

solemn remnant
#

please call an ambulance

#

at this point I'd want to join the mini-itx bandwagon

cursive summit
#

Ah there's a major caveat it seems

#

Minisforum uses laptop parts

#

I guess I'll take a look at mini-ITXs as well

halcyon moss
#

that would be the thing i'd mention

#

its laptop hardware, but in a mini pc format

cursive summit
#

I was expecting RTX 3070 desktop but it's the laptop one

#

Which is a big big difference

solemn remnant
#

it's a big difference, but yeah can't fit a regular one in a flat case

cursive summit
#

How big are mini-ITX PCs anyways

solemn remnant
#

I guess the height is similar to the one you were looking at, just thiccer

#

the good thing is you can go all out on the performance if you want, cable management and tetris'ing everything in place is a pain tho

halcyon moss
#

that is if you care about cable management

solemn remnant
#

well yeah it's not a thing that matters after you've got the thing running, but just letting everything hang freely can lead to problems down the line

halcyon moss
#

Today I forgot the cable for my keyboard... Thankfully I have a spare

cursive summit
#

Seems that MSI Trident Z is a rather small gaming PC with proper desktop firmware

#

One's on amazon with a full powered 3070

#

Also considering building my own mini-PC

#

But idk what really tiny cases could house an rx 6800XT

#

This seems to hold RX 6800XT's no problem according to some

#

Lol it seems to have enough clearance to hold an RTX 4090

astral haven
#

oh i finally found the meme elon was trying to make

#

someone called it an x post

#

just like you would say on reddit

#

🤦‍♂️

#

its not an x post from r/funny, its an x post in general

reef patrol
#

More people read news there than...well where else would you suggest?

#

Radio? Nondescript sirens?

final flame
#

maybe the alert system built onto our phones

reef patrol
#

Those are flaky and unreliable

final flame
#

better than using social media

final flame
#

why not use everything at your disposal

#

sirens are the only thing that should be kept until it gets bad enough to warrant panick

ashen spindle
#

still a mess but more passthrough progress

cursive summit
#

Anyways decided to make an SFF PC instead

#

That would be hand-carryable

#

@prisma crag will be happy, I'm getting the Fractal Terra

#

Seems like the nicest looking and one of the more spacious SFF cases around

#

Finding a good PSU cooler though that would fit in it with a 2.7 slot card though is a bit difficult

analog sinew
#

there will be a ton of startups using AI to determine gluten content in milkshakes and stuff

#

90% will go under again and just scam investors anyway

#

and that's that

#

🤷‍♂️

cursive summit
#

What milkshakes

analog sinew
#

those that bring all the vexes to the yard

cursive summit
#

Vex the minecraft mob?

analog sinew
#

No, you

cursive summit
#

I do like milkshakes

#

But I won't go outside under any circumstances

analog sinew
#

understandable

cursive summit
#

Its fuckin expensive though

#

230$ here

#

If the build goes way over the top, might have to go with a cheaper case like Lian li Q58

#

Technically also Torrent Nano exists

halcyon willow
#

Formd T1 with handle strap

#

9.95L

cursive summit

I can't find a formd t1 on sale here

halcyon willow
#

In EU?

cursive summit

Not buying EU

Local

halcyon willow

halcyon willow

It’s a worse T1

#

What color

cursive summit
#

Silver

#

Cause it looks good

#

Although case isn't much more than just a case

#

Needs to work, that's the important part

halcyon willow
#

The T1 is the best and it’s cheaper

#

OOS though if you can wait

#

What parts?

cursive summit
#

5800X3D, 6800XT

halcyon willow
#

Awesome

vagrant pagoda
#

they were up on the mountian because they are normally for tusnamis

cursive summit
#

Pffft hahah

#

I went to look at amazon prices

#

A lot cheaper

#

But wtf is that dispatch time

halcyon willow
#

They do

cursive summit
#

Formd T1 isn't even on amazon

halcyon willow
#

Case comes flat packed, build it yourself

#

Why would you look on Amazon lol

cursive summit
halcyon willow

On a website

cursive summit

I am not buying from separate storefronts

#

If I shop on amazon, it's the full rig

halcyon willow

💀💀

Listen to me Vex

vagrant pagoda

yeah

cursive summit
halcyon willow
#

Alright bro

vagrant pagoda
#

also

#

the terra is 230?

#

they are 180 in us

#

arent they swedish

#

how is it that much more in eu

halcyon willow
#

I bought it pretty much assembled

#

And just in case I ordered some extra screws from Amazon

#

Got it for pretty cheap, $150 US

#

I already had all the parts I needed as well

#

Still loving it to this day

#

Their discord is really helpful with this stuff and I have all of the links with help needed

#

Thank god I saved some stuff before I got banned lol

cursive summit
#

Autocorrect keeps fucking me a lot nowadays

#

CPU

#

Going with pure rock LP

halcyon willow

It’s a sandwich layout case so I’d suggest AXP90-X47 with Noctua fan swap

cursive summit

Neither exist here locally

Going with pure rock lp

halcyon willow
#

EU skill issue

#

What height is that cooler

cursive summit
#

Single storefront issue

cursive summit
#

Small

halcyon willow
#

The one I said is on Amazon though

cursive summit
#

Ah fuck this tried switching to a cheaper storefront, their 6800XT's are all 3-slot

#

The Sapphire I found is a 2.7 slot which is crucial

halcyon willow
#

Won’t gain anything

cursive summit
#

Cause Terra doesn't really fit 3 slot cards

halcyon willow
#

It would need to be 2.5 slot

cursive summit
#

2.7 slot fits

halcyon willow
#

I mean for a cooler

cursive summit
#

322mm clearance on Terra

halcyon willow
#

How about slots?

cursive summit
#

Most 6800XTs are 340mm

#

Sapphire is 313mm

halcyon willow
#

Another good reason to avoid Terra

cursive summit
#

Idc kmt havo

vagrant pagoda
#

thats what she said

halcyon willow
#

3.25 slot capable T1 and 3 versions of 4090 cards

cursive summit
#

RTX 4090 fits in the Terra from what I saw

halcyon willow
#

FE, and I think an MSI variant and another

vagrant pagoda
#

took 5 seconds to download

cursive summit
#

Terra, 4090

#

It's a pretty damn spacious case

#

Radeon cards are just hella long

#

But not as thicc

halcyon willow
#

Me personally

cursive summit
#

And that's a fucking issue

#

XFX 6800XT is 340mm

#

How am I supposed to fit that

#

MAYBE the 340mm includes the bracket

#

Which I think is 12mm

#

Which you could maybe remove and get it to just fit

#

How tf did they make the 4090 304mm thick

#

Or is it just Radeons that are long af

ashen spindle
#

pcb =/= cooler

cursive summit
# ashen spindle pcb =/= cooler

I am aware, which is why I am annoyed with the Sapphire having exactly the same clocks as the 340mm long versions while being 313mm

#

Like, why the bulk

ashen spindle
#

same clocks but are they the same temps?

#

might even be different pcb for those etc.

cursive summit
#

Three fan cooler and it's sapp, so I bet they are even better

#

Anyways I guess I'll go with this storefront since they have the Terra (only storefront in my country that has the Terra in stock) and the Sapphire card

#

Amazon seems cheaper but they have 3 months shipping on Terra lol

halcyon willow

cursive summit

Damn good SFX-L/ SFX PSUs are hard to find

#

Seems like a good PSU

halcyon willow
#

SF750

#

Fool

cursive summit
#

700W Platinum

halcyon willow
#

Garbage and loud

cursive summit
#

I'm not buying a 240 euro PSU

pale sigil
#

Why not

cursive summit
#

Budget limited

halcyon willow
#

150 refurbished

cursive summit
#

Anyways checking cybenetics

halcyon willow
#

From Corsair themselves

#

Must suck to be an SFF fan in the EU

#

I feel pity for you

cursive summit
#

Cybenetics only tested the 1000W model, unfortunate

#

But should be similar

#

They like it, platinum rating

ashen spindle
#

not even titanium, weak

cursive summit
halcyon willow
#

So you can buy only on Amazon?

#

The fuck is that 😭😭

ashen spindle
#

I love paying more for a worse power bill and worse clocks or noise/temperature dogekek

halcyon willow
#

SF750 Gold refurbished is more than enough

cursive summit
#

I could get an 80+ Titanium rated one but I'm not paying 314$

#

Sad that none of the Fractal Ion SFX are in stock

#

Anyways how much watts would I even need on a 5800X3D and 6800XT

#

600W should cut it

halcyon willow
#

It should

#

It will

#

Order custom cables

ashen spindle
#

without looking up 500 should do

cursive summit
#

105W CPU, 300W or so GPU

#

Does add up to about 500 on load and 600 should be safe

halcyon willow
#

SF650 with custom cables would be perfect

#

Good

#

Sike

#

I would love that EVGA 1080Ti

#

Looks insane

cursive summit
#

This fuckin storefront doesn't even have form factor sorting

astral haven
cursive summit
#

This?

#

SFX, Gold

#

Not best

#

Not terrible

#

Other than a 300$ silverstone lol

#

Using this for reference

#

There's decent amount of platinums

#

But way out of my price range converted to local pricing

#

Why are they not providing sizing?

#

I guess SFX is the "size"

#

But not sure if they go any bigger

#

Guess same thing with ITX

#

So Terra should fit the EVGA PSU then

#

5800X3D only supports 3200MHz memory?

#

That's a bit shite

ashen spindle
#

how is this your first time seeing supported specs stop at jedec

cursive summit
#

I have not looked up 5800X3D memory support before alright

ashen spindle
#

this is not 5800x3d specific

astral haven
#

thats tied for highest of any ddr4 cpu

ashen spindle
#

no cpu is rated for above jedec spec on the "this will work" spec table

cursive summit
#

I guess if you OC it to 3600 (when 3600 is I think an OC of 3200 anyways) the CPU won't mind

#

3200MHz is the highest native clock I think

halcyon willow
#

3600 for 5800X3D

cursive summit
#

I'd go with 4GHz

astral haven
#

the target for all ryzen 3000/5000 IODIE for oc is 3800 OC from 3600 xmp

#

^

cursive summit
#

I don't remember, is EXPO allowed on Ryzen 5000 series?

#

Think that was a 7000 series feature

astral haven
#

expo is ddr5 only

#

and anyways amd ddr4 chiplet cpus have less than 10% chance of passing 3800mhz

#

its ez pz on the monolithic chips

cursive summit
#

Also rather annoying with DDR4 CL14 being still extremely expensive

astral haven
#

well yes?

cursive summit
#

When CL16 is basically similarly performing but twice as cheap

astral haven
#

sorta but no

#

sure if you happen to be buying flat 16 bdies, you just need to give it an extra 100mv

#

but if you are getting non bdies, you are gonna have
oh wait
ryzen
fuck
you have no control over rfc/refi

#

to maximize bdie you need control of both

#

and amd locks away one of them i forget which

cursive summit
#

Gigabyte B550i

#

One of 3 options really, other one is an ASUS and ASrock I think

#

And I'd far rather have the jiggybyte, best I/O, best VRM

#

And it's also not ASUS which has that shite bloatware flashed into the BIOS dogenek

astral haven
#

gigglebios is a meme

cursive summit
#

@prisma crag do you know if with the Terra a low-profile DDR4 kit is a hard requirement?

astral haven
#

asrock is the current least painful vendor

cursive summit
#

Or only with some coolers

#

Pure rock LP seems like it doesn't "branch out"

#

So it just sits on the die

halcyon willow
#

Not true

cursive summit
#

So it shouldn't really reach the RAM slots I hope

halcyon willow
#

Just make sure it’s not too tall

cursive summit
#

92 x 92 x 45 (L x W x H), (mm)

#

Plus maybe I can mount it rotated lol

crisp granite
#

...ugh

#

please don't put more than 6 cores under that

#

it'll get pretty bad

cursive summit
#

That's why eco mode and curves were invented

crisp granite
#

yep
still
you can do better

#

what height do you have to play with?

cursive summit
#

I can NOT do better than that in a Terra

#

With a 2.7 slot gpu

#

Advice: was looking for Apple devices

#

Macbooks are incredibly overpriced

#

Get a mac mini

#

How much for the m2 pro macbook?

crisp granite
#

that and the MBP really has killer speakers, trackpad and screen

astral haven
#

great idea, buy a device with soldered on wear components refurbished

crisp granite
#

it is well worth the premium for such a great laptop

cursive summit
#

The damn cube has speakers

crisp granite
#

not bad at all
base model is 3150, no?

#

wait...max model?

cursive summit
#

Eh

#

So damn expensive

#

Mac mini with m2 pro was 1300

crisp granite
#

...where is that magical 50 dollar bump

#

I swore they were 3150

#

did apple bump up the price since I looked at those prices...last year?

cursive summit
#

Oh that's also the good M2 Pro

#

gets 2 extra perf cores and 3 extra gpu cores

crisp granite
#

ahhhh
the M1 -> M2 got a 50 dollar price bump

#

OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

#

yeah that makes sense

ashen spindle
#

but what do they check for when refurbishing, how many months sooner is that going to die

cursive summit
final flame
#

that's because they do a case swap for everything

astral haven
#

Visually not virtually

crisp granite
#

so the bits you'll touch will be impeccable

what about the the bits under the hood?

#

um
the applecare and warranty are fair points

#

although it is a refurbished device
it was in someone else's hands before

don't expect you got some rich kid's toy that they used thrice before they got bored

astral haven
#

if you thought it was a good idea to buy it, you already would have...

#

if you were talking about it just to flex, you leave

cursive summit
#

if they need an apple device, they can get an apple device

#

Went to an ideal yesterday to touch some apples, not grass

#

Honestly, I kinda like them

#

It's not windows but it's good enough

#

SFF is a hard requirement

#

PC has to be easily portable

#

Yes the requirement is easily portable

#

SFF is the only choice lol

crisp granite
cursive summit
#

There's a good reason why not

#

M2 Pro absolutely sucks at gaming

#

And the PC is for gaming

crisp granite
#

the AXP-100 copper coolers are still floating around

it's not perfect, but it does plenty more than one might expect

ashen spindle
#

refurb just has the issue that it only has 1 year warranty for a reason and it's not cheap ¯_(ツ)_/¯

astral haven
crisp granite
#

🙊

astral haven
#

bears repeating

cursive summit
final flame
#

I really need a new cooler for my pc, my aio pump is starting to die on me, can hear the bubbling every once in a while
but damn I'm poor rn

cursive summit
#

The person actually really liked the mac mini with m2 pro

#

But then they asked "how are games" and I was like ehh, you ok with playing at 720p on minimum quality? dogenek

crisp granite
cursive summit
#

No debate there

#

But a lot of the games they play are not

#

Well, nearly all of them are not lol

#

And most importantly, Apple DOES NOT SUPPORT EGPU

crisp granite
#

also the end of 32 bit support killed a lot of really fuckin nice mac ports

cursive summit
#

THEY HAVE DAMN THUNDERBOLT 4 BUT NO EGPU

crisp granite
#

can't play games like Rage

shadow minnow
crisp granite
#

or Spec Ops: The Line

#

two classics, very underrated

#

and you can't play them on mac
because ports don't...work anymore

final flame

I'm switching to air for good

cursive summit
#

Absolutely shit perf lol

#

Oh yeah

crisp granite
cursive summit
#

1080p barely 30fps

crisp granite
#

um

#

I think I did already

#

time to check my hoard of PC parts in my closet havo

cursive summit
#

I genuinely, 100%, would right now buy a macbook or mac mini instead of making this SFF PC

#

But only if they supported eGPU

#

And eGPU with apple silicon is not a thing

crisp granite
#

that would be a massive undertaking, my guy

cursive summit
#

Slap a 3070 on Apple M2 and it'd be a BEAST

astral haven
crisp granite
#

Arma 3 runs rather well on macs :)

cursive summit
#

I wonder though if Apple will ever consider eGPU support

crisp granite
ashen spindle
#

oh yes, enabling the gpu support they had in the past and dropped is really hard havo

cursive summit
#

Cause having to buy a 4000$-8000$ Macs for bearable gaming performance is rather shite

astral haven
crisp granite
cursive summit
#

Which I read they still have on Intel Macs

#

Apple silicon never supported eGPU

astral haven
#

no but they are in the hundreds of millions of cash on hand

ashen spindle
#

if you allow pcie gpus it's no real extra work, they stopped allowing the amd pro cards and pcie only allows sound cards and stuff like that in the mac studios now

astral haven
ashen spindle
#

so if you allow gpus there egpu is like rounding error

cursive summit
#

I wonder how different are those Thunderbolt 4 controllers on Apple

#

Surely they are the same as on Intel

astral haven
#

obviously not

cursive summit
#

Should not be incredibly hard for them to enable eGPU

#

But then their "studio" mac line would make no sense

astral haven
#

the studio macs dont support gpus either

cursive summit
#

Would make no sense cause of pricing

astral haven
#

they support video IO cards like from avid and blackmagic

#

but gpus are blacklisted

crisp granite
astral haven
#

they are a 2 trillion dollar company, aka thats the buyout price at market value right now
and they have enough cash on hand for a moon program
both are semantically and factually accurate statements

cursive summit
#

Stop fighting children, it doesn't matter what any of you use

#

Apple loves money

#

But they also love creators

#

I think?

#

Good platform for editors

#

Fast compile times also in CPU workloads

astral haven
cursive summit
#

@dawn epoch Are you choosing Apple just cause of closed source firmware?

#

Cause for that price a good windows laptop would be better

#

But yeah if you are just looking for security, obviously apple

because apple decided to oss it for bug hunting

Often audits / pentests of closed source stuff do get access as it makes it easier to find things. But yea you don't need it, you just won't find as many of the issues if it's closed.

fair gull

youll be even more surprised

#

but yeah apple does opensource stuff

AMD RDNA4 MCM, a complicated design that could already be canceled A conceptual renders and diagrams explain why AMD might have been forced to cancel the GPU. Concept AMD Navi 4X GPU render, Source: creper9000 AMD had to make revisions to its Navi 4X GPU rollout, potentially even considering the cancellation of its most advanced […]

A patent really does not tell you any more than they were working on the idea in a lab and decided it was important enough to patent.

ashen spindle
#

so this is mlid being on the mark just after others have posted it in less open places

astral haven
#

i suppose a better word would be "citation"

#

but that implies some amount of repute

ashen spindle
#

yes its from people with pretty decent track record for zen/rdna

astral haven
#

fkn microsoft

#

nyways yea its still the rumored cancelled device

mild dome
#

From what I hear AI demand coupled with enterprise margins being way higher means that for AMD and Nvidia it makes more sense to use the new nodes for enterprise AI silicon. This is likely why we saw GPU prices rise so much, ut gets hard for gpu makers to justify selling consumer gpus at a thinner margin when AI pays better

astral haven
#

substitute amd and nvidia for just nvidia but yea

#

what happened is nvidia abandoned all their non ai customers, and amd picked up the slack that is big in science

ashen spindle
#

current gen sure, mi300/400 is attempting to do what zen did to intel

#

but they also dont block all the nodes for AI silicon thats just wrong

#

h100 is substrate limited not wafer limited

astral haven
#

are there any rumors for mi300whatever flops

#

amd claims 8x mi250x which is 400tflops
that would be 3.2tflops
an h100 is already 4tflops

#

and the h100 is already over a year old

ashen spindle
#

think that was for mi300A and not mi300X which would have an extra cdna tile

astral haven
#

doesnt say :/

ashen spindle
#

thats from january where mi300 was not annoucned to have different configs yet iirc

#

so at that point they only showed mi300A

#

ah right, I forgot the most important part lol

#

large amounts of unified memory

astral haven
#

1.5tb< 4.8tb

mild dome
#

The story goes AMD realized cancelling the flagship would mean they could devote more resources for the more lucrative enterprise market, not that the flagship would be unprofitable but that it wasn't profitable enough to justify its existence over enterprise units

ashen spindle
#

one h100 has 94gb max, mi300x has 192gb

astral haven
#

nvidia advertises 144tb of unified memory per superchip in a cluster

mild dome
#

How so?

ashen spindle
#

it is to not delay rdna5 or other later products and get rdna4 to market without delays, its not diverting manpower to the cdna solutions

astral haven
#

block diagram showing its actually just 1 gpu

ashen spindle
#

its the 2024 refresh with HBM3e iirc

astral haven
#

but 141gb how?

#

144 i understand

#

141?

ashen spindle
#

maybe 3e has some stuff that limits it or for yields idk

astral haven
#

"Fourth generation NVIDIA NVLink enables GPU threads to address up to 144TB of
memory provided by all superchips in the NVLink network using normal memory
operations, atomics, and bulk transfers. Communication libraries like MPI, NCCL, or
NVSHMEM transparently leverage the NVLink Switch System when available.
NVIDIA NVLink Switch System connects each Grace Hopper Superchip to the network at
900GB/s total bandwidth. That is, a Grace Hopper Superchip pair exchanges data at up
to 900GB/s. With up to 256 Grace Hopper Superchips, the network delivers up to
115.2TB/s all-to-all bandwidth. This is 9x the all-to-all bandwidth of InfiniBand NDR400,
and 4.5x the all-reduce throughput."

#

actual insanity

#

144tb of unified memory at 900GB/s
not 900gbps
900GB/s

#

and this is without using infiniband

mild dome
#

GH200 Grace Hopper superchip that utilizes 141 GB (144 GB physical)

So is the additional 3GB used for something else or inaccessible?

ashen spindle
#

inaccessible

astral haven
#

its definetly inaccessible, but it could be used for something internally we just wont know what and wouldnt get any advantage from it

ashen spindle
#

likely just yields but could be something else sure

astral haven
#

could also be inverse 970 dealios

ashen spindle
#

lmfao

astral haven
#

the last 3gb would have been slower so they disabled

ashen spindle
#

dont think you can have mixed configured in one hbm stack lol

astral haven
#

could be their imc bursts into flames when you allocate 144gb of memory, and the minimum they could cut off was 512mb and they had to cut it off all the stacks?

ashen spindle
#

¯_(ツ)_/¯ couldnt find specifics only places saying its for yield though no concrete source

astral haven
#

yay

#

well if we survive this ai boom, ill buy an h200 superchip and see if i can find out myself

ashen spindle
#

I mean we are like 6 months away I'm sure by then someone will have something concrete xD

astral haven
#

maybe

frail portal
#

each die is 3 GB so could just be yields

astral haven
#

not quite

#

6 stacks of 12 = 2GB/die

ashen spindle
#

so it would be 3gb per dram IC so that would just be one they turn off then

frail portal
#

yeah they apparently will have 8Hi and 12Hi versions

#

these are 8Hi afaict

ashen spindle
#

yeah thats from july with the first info so the 36gb on gh200 would just use 12hi again

#

so basically memory capactiy/BW and uniform acces vs (maybe) faster chips

#

even if they dont win pure spec per gpu slot in anything that's still a valid choice then so better than cdna1/2 as alternative

#

the difference here is simply that nvidia is not doing an intel so it's not a straight win in server space lol

Use copyrighted material to create AI
release AI capable of spouting off copyrighted material to the market

Not sure what OpenAI expected

Also I know someone is going to say "Oh but it's just reading articles and writing its own version, we do this all the time!" but I think the concern many publications have is that ChatGPT almost never references back to the original sources.
I mean imagine going to a Warzone, writing up a detailed article on said warzone, possibly having your life at risk, and then everyone uses ChatGPT to read your article instead, netting you no income. Google already got in trouble something adjacent to this in a few countries, wherin news publications realized that Google pulling quotes out to show in the google image results to the user before they visited the site meant that their articles dropped in readership as Google was diverting people to its own system and taking the lion's share of ad revenue

cursive summit
#

What if two pieces of content are so similar that AI got inspired by one of them to create something resembling the other?

#

Which one is now being infringed as "OpenAI used my image to train their model"

#

Seriously, this is a weird ass grey area that I have no clue how to circumvent

#

In general I am positive towards a web crawler leeching off everything it can find to train a model

#

Cause why not

#

But a human opening a preview of such art to admire and take in aspiration is not considered as stealing?

#

How is this any different, in reality, from a human learning

#

You could argue that the difference is that OpenAI uses the model to generate profits

#

But so do humans, they steal other's ideas for profits

#

AI doesn't really plagiarise

#

It changes things enough to be unique

ashen spindle
#

llms literally work on predicting what letter comes next based on what it knows from the dataset

#

idk how much closer you can go without 1:1 copying it

mild dome
# cursive summit What way is there to prove whose content was used to train AI

A company that suspects its content has been used to train an AI would go to court, they might present some finding like the AI being able to closely recreate their work given the right prompt. From there the court can order OpenAI to present documents showing whether or not AI stole their content for training
Yes OpenAI could LIE on court documents, but companies are aware this can make the situation WAY worse then being found liable for copyright.

#

One law that might be necessary for AI, is to force AI creators to make public ALL training data

#

Also my point still stands. AI creates a situation where many independant news sources will have its readership stripped away as the AI takes their content to present to the user. Google has been sued already in multiple countries for doing the same thing, and in those countries now must pay the publications it sources its google results information from. AI might need to do something similar. Otherwise independent news sources might be driven out of existence, endangering our way of informing ourselves

#

ChatGPT as far as I have learned will usually not cite its sources of information (or if you ask it too, it will generate fake links that go nowhere). So if it sources live information for people then those publication will be getting Zilch

Not an ethical consideration but one weird thing about a world of AI is going to be to produce an ouroboros of AI referencing articles made by AI. Considering AI tends to "hallucinate" this could mean articles being generated that get increasingly innacurate, until its just spouting straight garbled misinformation. AI training program ironically might need to find ways to filter AI data it scraped from the internet whilst at the same time trying to make their AI generate human like and not obviously machine generated results.

I mean gpu busy is a nicer way because it’s fucking pain to get that in a readable way on nsight and similar

fickle ore

Funny that with lowest settings possible my ow is 99.9 % gpu util on native render scale

ashen spindle
#

It’s like frametime when that started, data already exist just not in a digestible way really

ashen spindle
#

So I’m happy for this and think next updates will do a lot

fickle ore
#

just installed it basically for the new "gpu busy" thing

#

just wanted to check whether "reduced buffering" had any difference to gpu busy, since it's less parallelization in the frame pipe

#

but no doesnt seem to have

#

yea injecting is bad for esports

@cursive summit Why so hostile suddenly?

Not hostile

Tech stays in tech, game in game

@prisma crag anyways, even if it's not 1000%, the price tag of their H100's is definitely overpriced, even for tech companies

ashen spindle
#

The issue with the h100 pricing is that is just bill of materials vs sales prices

hasty thunder
#

even Apple seems generous compared to NV with their $1k monitor stand

ashen spindle
#

Doesn’t include resaearch, software for it etc.

#

A monitor stand doesn’t need thousand of people to get it working after years of development

hasty thunder
#

well, yeah, i get that you pay for the service and RnD as well, but an estimated profit margin of 1000%? Thanks, but no thanks

ashen spindle
#

I mean, how many do they need to sell before they make any net profit if you include all of that though

#

dont get me wrong they are doing well and I know that

#

but it's still not free products that are cheap to develop

hasty thunder
#

given that RnD and service are running costs i could imagine they'd have to sell around 500k till they finally see any profit

#

if not 1m

ashen spindle
#

now how many do they ship this year

hasty thunder
#

550k according to the reports

#

we can only calculate a rough number of units shipped when we get some official income numbers

ashen spindle
#

so we have 2 years before they actually profit if we take that 1m guess

#

seems like that "1000%" isn't that insane after all anymore

cursive summit
#

Especially when AMD will be heavily digging into Nvidia's profits with Mi300

#

Which for whatever reason from what I have been reading is actually superior to Nvidia's tech in almost every way

ashen spindle
#

that doesnt really matter for current pricing

hasty thunder
#

Honestly doubt AMD will damage NV's income at all

cursive summit
#

They are directly competing

#

And MI300 will be faster than H100

#

Prolly also cheaper as well

ashen spindle
#

nvidia is substrate limited for the h100 so they already cant sell as many as they wnat to so amd taking some spots isn't even directly eating their profit

cursive summit
#

I did a bunch of reading on those AMD accelerators and my surprise was that, AMD is actually ahead in terms of performance

#

Which was rather weird considering the situation with GPUs

ashen spindle
#

ehh you gotta be careful about that conclusion

#

raw tflop performance isnt the all

thick elk
#

However if amd were to vanish from existance it would increase demand on Nvidia which would allow them to drive up prices

hasty thunder
#

faster doesn't mean it's performing better. A.e. 12900k vs 5800X3D

thick elk
#

so they have some effect

ashen spindle
#

memory capacity, bandwidth, software stack etc. all matters too

thick elk
#

Not saying it doesn't matter but the market AMD adresses now could be addressed by Nvidia

#

so it at least has some marginal effect on demand

ashen spindle
#

but ironically those things make mi300 so much better than the previous instinct cards
