Considering Google has gathered a lot of data via the recorder app this honestly feels like the next pixel drop. That said the Google recorder is very cool.

PS5 Pro releasing November 2024.

#

I am going to assume that PS5 and PS5 digital will be cancelled as products and PS5 Slim and PS5 Pro will be the new offerings

#

I am having difficulty finding out what a WGP is

#

Apparently it's a WorkGroup Processor

#

But it doesn't appear to be either graphics CUs or CPU cores/threads

#

Ahh, as per videocardz "30 WorkGroup Processors (WGP), which refers to large clusters of GPU cores as per AMD’s terminology. This would be the equivalent of 60 Compute Units compared to PlayStation 5 featuring 36"

#

Potentially major performance boost, would it be based on Sarlak perhaps technologically?

ashen spindle
#

no it will be semi custom like all consoles

hasty thunder
#

Actually that's wrong, but also right at the same time. Lemme give you a quick run down from someone deeply involved in the motorsports and tuning scene: An ECU adjusts the fuel injection by measuring air pressure, density and flow. Your car will use much more fuel in an area way above the sea level, i.e. a mountain.
If we're talking about stock factory cars right off the production line, then yeah, you don't have to fiddle around with the ECU, unless you want a more efficient engine and more power. In that case an ECU tuning can take weeks to months. Basically mapping the entire ECU from the ground up

reef patrol
#

Less fuel. You use less fuel at altitude.

hasty thunder
#

actually iirc it was more, because you'd have to adjust the amount of fuel to achieve the same bang

#

Mansen used Confuse
it's super effective!

reef patrol
#

Google agrees that fuel is less at higher altitudes - in theory anyway.

hasty thunder
#

i mean it kinda makes sense given that an explosion inside the engine requires a specific amount of air, but at the end the equation wouldn't

#

lemme check my notes

#

nvm, you're right

#

but then again, fuel efficiency goes out the window at altitudes, because the car produces less thrust

#

resulting in a poorly performing engine

#

other than that i wouldn't particularly say an ECU is the brain of an engine. After all the electronics check a given value (air mass flow), comparing it with a table and adjusting the fuel injection according to the programmed table

#

That's like @reef patrol getting a list of a Batch and counting on how many keyboards arrived at the warehouse to validate

In that particular case? The driver. He's supposed to adjust the speed given all the circumstances. State of the road, upcoming traffic, condition of brakes, tires, etc.

#

a friend of mine has a company that helps with pushing code out faster for a/b testing, and was curious to know if its a challenge people are facing

hasty thunder
#

Not really. People found solutions to this like ages ago by now

#

i.e. LTT uses TeamViewer for years, others like to use RD, then there's the AnyDesk faction and some others like IBM have their in-house programs for remote stuff

#

in fact you'll barely meet a business with 100+ employees who don't use their own in-house program

final flame
hasty thunder
#

mostly without taxes

#

and honestly? I'm kinda surprised there's no defined tax for the country in total. I mean the US pretty much changed the world significantly over the last decades, but the can't handle something as simple as introducing a general tax

#

or explaining to people why a proper healthcare system would cause less headaches for everyone

final flame

taxes in the us are a total joke when it comes to the system behind it

cursive summit

That's a good ass price

final flame

The fact that U.S still doesn't have a hypersonic missile interceptor when their research into the field is at least 40+ years old is weird

But eh U.S fields what's useful and then spends many billions on R&D that will never be used

But I will never, ever forgive you americans that you cancelled the 75mm ARES gun project

hasty thunder
cursive summit
#

Yes that's what I said

#

U.S only fields what's useful

#

But then China develops their own and now U.S has to play catchup

hasty thunder
#

that's what the US does for years by now. They're playing catchup since the 80's

cursive summit
#

Which is funny cause U.S is so technologically ahead that it's criminal that they just stash the technological reports until needed, and borderline never use it

#

Like the future combat systems program

halcyon willow

criminal, you say

hasty thunder

little hint: No, there wasn't. It became a thing in the mid 80's in Europe and pretty much created its own thing over here called KNX

power line wiring for signals...

I still hate giving these machine learning algorithms the denotation of "AI"
When the majority of people hear AI they think "Well it must be able to THINK!"

I know that was part of the marketing hype machine, to make it seem bigger then it actually was. But I feel a lot more people wouldn't make dumb mistakes like this is they were informed it was really just an advanced statistical engine with no understanding of what it was reading.

empty wren
hasty thunder
#

Google and Snapdragon is pretty much a never ending debate

empty wren
#

Snapdragon is good and all but they have a US monopoly and honestly snapdragon dragon chips every few years have a dud chip that loves to drain the battery.

hasty thunder
#

still better than Samsungs own Exynos trash

#

as much as i liked my S22U, the Exynos Chip in it was basically garbage compared to the Snap 8 Gen 2 in my S23U

empty wren
#

Guess Samsung just is not serious enough

#

There was a time galaxy devices had exynos chips here

hasty thunder
#

i already hate them for the fact that they're going to use the Exynos bullshit again in the S24

empty wren
#

Can you not import a snapdragon model?

hasty thunder
#

It doesn't work like that. We're using different bandwidths for calls over here in Europe

ashen spindle
#

most of the exynos issues seem to come down not to chip but node issues, the last one missed gpu clocks by some few hundred mHz since they couldnt get it to work on the samsung nodes or so

empty wren
halcyon moss
#

Then there's still the problem with warranty

empty wren
hasty thunder
#

already did back then with my S22U. They're using totally different antennas inside as well as totally different firmware. Basically: US carrier networks aren't compatible with EU ones

ashen spindle
#

well that sort of goes hand in hand, if the efficency has issues that affects lower and high power most likely

hasty thunder
empty wren
hasty thunder
#

or tl;dr: The Snapdragon is better, faster and more efficient

#

the only issue is that Samsung has to buy the Snapdragon Chips, making it more expensive for them

empty wren
#

That is understandable

hasty thunder
#

that's why they love to stick to their Exynos crap

#

and no, the collaboration with AMD and a heavily cut down RDNA2 chip inside the S22U EU didn't affect it

empty wren
#

I do not even remember anyone talking about it after the leaks anyways lol

hasty thunder
#

on paper it should have blown the Snapdragon out of the water in games

#

in reality it didn't do shit

wheat plume
ashen spindle
#

yeah thats the part they failed on, the rdna2 ip on samsung node didnt manage to clock as high as they planned

cursive summit
#

That was already said and you also managed to misspell it

hasty thunder
#

Samsung promised years ago that Exynos would catch up to Snapdragon in terms of performance and efficiency, but all i see is Samsung running after a pipe dream they won't achieve

empty wren
#

Yeah

#

I hope mediatek can eventually make it to the states

#

The only drawbacks today is carrier bands, camera and audio experience.

#

On the other side though, better efficiency and even higher clocks.

hasty thunder
#

is audio even a thing now when there's basically no flagship phone with a headphone jack?

empty wren
#

I got one

#

Sony has some too

hasty thunder
#

BT is still miles behind a plain simple 3.5mm Jack

empty wren
#

So exists like an endangered species

ashen spindle
#

just use a dongle

empty wren
#

Where headphone jacks really exist is midrange to low end

empty wren
ashen spindle
#

it makes your headphone cable 3cm longer I fail to see the big issue

empty wren
#

That is fine I guess

#

But they could at least try to put a good dac on it

hasty thunder
#

I mean on one hand it's a good thing headphone jacks disappeared, but in terms of pure quality there is nothing even remotely close to it when it comes to wireless stuff

final flame
#

The issue of Bluetooth audio is less the codec, and more the DAC and amp inside the device itself

If the device supports nice codecs like ldac

empty wren
#

Also headphones need to support same codes too *

final flame
#

Yea

#

Thats what i meant by device

empty wren
#

Oh okay

hasty thunder
#

even if it supports LDAC, the phone has to support it as well. My Liberty Air 4 support LDAC, yet my S23U doesn't. It does on paper, but according to the debug logs it doesn't even try to enforce it

empty wren
#

That is weird, that is flagship device thonk

hasty thunder
#

ikr

final flame
#

Essentially every flagship phone supports all the main codecs, so not really a issue nowadays

#

On Samsung devices you have to enable it in the Bluetooth setting not in developer options

#

This is how you do it on Samsung devices

empty wren
hasty thunder
#

i don't have that option

final flame
#

If the option doesn't show then the audio output doesn't support it most likely

#

Unlike implementing ldac on headphones and earbuds, there is no royalty charge to Sony to implement it on phones and other transmitters

hasty thunder
#

nvm xD My fault, i didn't even activate LDAC on my headphones

hasty thunder
#

speaking of dongle tho. Anyone here saw the VR P10's so far?

#

basically the first market wide USB-C dongle to BT headphones for handheld consoles and more

#

and it allows charging as well while using it, because it has a Pass-through

empty wren
#

Was there not a Bluetooth dongle for the switch a while back

hasty thunder
#

there was, but with the issue of being bulky as heck and not allowing you to charge it while in use

empty wren
#

Oof on the second part

hasty thunder
#

yay

final flame
#

yea that took me a while to figure out how to enable it too

#

I wanted to run my m6 on ldac so much since the default it goes to is always sbc

#

and poweramp always shows what the current codec that's being used

#

there's sadly no good way to see what codec is being used besides it being built into certain apps

hasty thunder
#

can't imagine someone other than me uses PowerAmp

final flame
#

I have been using it for years

hasty thunder

can't go wrong with Volbeat tbh

final flame

stuff from the band release hallucination is really nice

subgenre or not, metal is metal imo

yea

hasty thunder

i mean K cup cars are a subgenre of sports cars, but they're still sports cars, if you know what i mean

final flame

yeye

#

ironically metal is some of the best music to test audio equipment with

very difficult for it to be reproduced without distortion

especially when the mastering is worse for wear

Ah yeah that's what I already thought

final flame
#

Purchasing CDs is also a option too

fading cloud

hasty thunder

Depends, i'd specifically watch for CDs which only contain some DRM. So they're downloading the songs from an online source. I.e. i have a 5FDP Album here that does exactly that, because the whole album is actually flac-filed

final flame
#

6xx are the best gateway drug imo, and for many people that's endgame

at least as far as for headphones

if you're some electronic dance music enjoyer: Masters of Hardstyle series
They do the same and only upload their files in flac

fading cloud

Yeah I kinda want noice canceling headphones. And then in ear which in its self are worse than over ears

the wfs are fine as far as noise cancelling wireless buds go
the wh series tho are tuned terribly so wouldn't reccomend

hasty thunder

i've tried countless in ear BTs for years till i settled on some Liberty Air 2 Pro's and Air 4 later

uh... idk if everyone's willing to carry a DAC with them

fading cloud

my concern is, my sis got the linkbuds s. 130€ cheap ish.
They sound better than i have i ever owned a headphone haha.
But my concern is, that my phone might have problems with high res audio bt streams.
When i enabled ldac on the sony headphones, it stuttered hard

hasty thunder

my honest opinion? Try some Liberty Air 2 Pro first, these already blow the Linkbuds out of the water

final flame
#

also maybe try a little bit of auto eq with wavelet

fading cloud
#

um

hasty thunder
#

not necessary, Soundcore comes with a ton of EQ presets you can fiddle with and even tune it to your preference

final flame
#

eq presets aren't exactly good a majority of the time

#

tuning to a target then tweaking from there is the easiest way

fading cloud
#

how do I put it, I have always been using ear / headphone that arent the best.
Always used free streaming services

To add to, my phone is ass, spotify and every other app will get auto closed after a while.
When the phone:
A: is to hot (which is 70% of the time)
B: Feels like it
C: Every app crashes

final flame

what are you currently using now?

works fine for me

Wavelet is basically the same thing except it also has the auto eq feature built in

#

and works for everything you use

other than that Soundcore headphones come with ANC (currently not the best, but one of the best so far), hear ID (adjusting the loudness of each frequency depending on your personal hearing once configured), programmable buttons and much, much more

for the price point of around 100 to 150 bucks they're an absolute bang for the buck

sure, they aren't the "end all, be all" solution, but they're more than solid imo

the galaxy buds pro imo are the best bang for the buck tw bud you can get

hasty thunder

got them with my S22U back then i hated them

final flame

they're tuned quite well

hasty thunder
#

fun fact: I got the S22U a day before anyone else, with all the blows and whistles and goodies it came with, because my 30th birthday was a day before its launch

#

And Samsung back then at the order was like: Uhm... Ok, your birthday is the 24th and we're launching at the 25th? FUCK IT!

fading cloud
# final flame what are you currently using now?

In ear: Huawei freebuds pro - noise canceling
When do I use it: at home in bed, traveling on my e scooter.
Codecs: AAC / SBC - 16 bit - 44,1khz
Makes my phone crash i think
Gaming headphones:
Corsair VIRTUOSO WIRELESS XT - no noise canceling
When do I use it: now mostly at home, on "road trips", as they are more comfy and how do I put they don't make me annoyed after a while.
Note: I have custom ear foam pads
Codecs: HD Audio enabled: SBC, AAC, APTx , APTx HD - 44.1khz - 24 bit

hasty thunder
#

well, yeah, the buds are well tuned out of the box, but they honestly lack features i'd like to see at the price point they had at launch

#

like programmable buttons weren't a thing, ANC was awful by introducing white noise the entire time, etc.

fading cloud
hasty thunder

maybe they're better now, but back then there was simply no point in keeping them

I am talking about PWM

hasty thunder

would actually be weird. I'm using Samsung phones since the S4 and Note 4 came out and never experienced such an issue. But maybe i'm not sensitive to that stuff

fading cloud

iphones have like 60hz -120hz refresh rate. But pwm is at like 600hz which is more than fine for me. and my sony phone, hence I also kinda choosed it

fading cloud

hence nobody talks about it

#

🫡

#

Seriously, I can see for a very very tiny split second notice the screen turning off.
If I watch videos, or look at in a car, i can get sick

hm.. the S23U uses a 240 Hz PWM signal

fading cloud

which is too low for me

I mean i dont have the buget to know at which point it is good enough for me

As I mentioned, I have been thinking about the sony wf-1000xm5. 320€
But that is most upper limit of all the budgets

Never liked Crapples closed eco system

#

especially not their shady methods

#

they really wanted to restrict people using 3rd party USB-C cables by crippling the tranfer speed

#

the EU said "Fuck you, Apple! We dare you to do it. But keep in mind we'll ban your shit outright here if you decide to do so"

#

i prefer to use USB-C to 3.0, because the phone supports it and it's way faster than downloading from the cloud

#

it's still shady af by Apple and they definitely tested the water with that idea. Because if they could restrict transfer speeds without punishment they'd also restrict charging times

#

So they'd force their customers to buy a genuine Apple cable and making them believe that the change to USB-C was a bad idea

#

just don't cheap out on something you intend to use for a long time

#

There's a reason why i'm using Volutz cables for almost a decade by now

#

yeah, they're definitely pricey, i get it, but they're definitely worth it

i.e. USB 2 cables are specified for theoretical transfer speeds of up to 480 MB/s. Their cables reach that limit in real use

I honestly don't think the AdBlock piracy take is that bad. Legally they are different, sure.
But the bottom line is in both cases you deprive the creator of their source of revenue for the content they create.
It should also be seen in context of Linus not being that badly anti-piracy.

#

I keep seeing posts made weeks ago, that I have already interacted with.

thick elk
#

Of course, I will not deny that, though I have never used Facebook. I have also pirated almost everything for a long time and still pirate some types of content.
Just as a point that both are forms of freeloading morally is still valid and I would agree with that.
I can also see that blocking ads is the only viable way to consume content. My personal solution has been to block everywhere but pay for premium in a few places that really matter to me.

Yeah that’s true but I was just comparing the size

vagrant pagoda
#

Dude had them in eBay for less than every one was offering single cards

#

And the listing text said it was 2 carss

#

But only photo of one

astral haven
vagrant pagoda
#

Paid $100 for both

astral haven
#

Definetly a bit steep for 1 but not bad for 2

vagrant pagoda
#

Yep

#

In box

steep creek
#

16” aha personally for me the sweet spot is 14. Fits easy in my backpack

vagrant pagoda
#

Tested working

#

My issue is

steep creek
vagrant pagoda
#

They came in box

#

Like only inbox

astral haven
#

Wow

vagrant pagoda
#

That's how it arrived

astral haven
#

Well that's how I got 780ti #1 lol

vagrant pagoda
#

Amazingly uncrushed or damaged

steep creek
#

Yeah, though wouldn’t you want to connect it to an external display?

#

But either way it’s a nice laptop

#

True lol

I do now tho
Xreal for the win

New Ray Tracing test from 3DMark UL Solution has released a new graphics benchmark for that will work across many platforms.  Solar Bay does not aim to replace existing benchmarks like Port Royal or the recently introduced Speed Way. Those benchmarks are designed for the PC platform and high-end systems equipped to accelerate ray tracing […]

#

always wanted to compare my 4090 to my phone /s

astral haven
#

24.5 is a heck of a lot closer than it used to be...

vagrant pagoda
astral haven
#

tho i suppose it depends on how the benchmark is, if it is small enough to fit cpu+gpu inside of 12gb, it may not be the most detailed

vagrant pagoda
#

My heavy hitters

astral haven
#

i have 2, but 1 is dead as a doorknob

vagrant pagoda
astral haven
#

also such an awfully ugly gpu compared to its predecessor, the sexiest gpu ever made, the 9800gx2

vagrant pagoda
#

I have 3 295. One is a single gpu

astral haven
vagrant pagoda
#

The 280 is what the 4870x2 competed with

#

Single GPU vs dual

#

295 can almost match 4870x2 cf

#

295 SLI smokes it

astral haven
#

😬 i thought ati was at a slightly better place at that point

#

yikes

vagrant pagoda
#

Their dual GPU was better

#

280 sli best 295 handly

#

But 4870x2 was faster than 4870 cf

astral haven
#

yea why tf did nvidia push so hard with the 480?

vagrant pagoda
#

4xx was just there because of DC sales

astral haven
#

were they aiming to beat 4870x2 cf?

astral haven
#

i suspect once someone suggested it to him that just was inevitable

vagrant pagoda
#

We never got full fat fermi

astral haven
#

ye

#

check my profile lel

vagrant pagoda
#

Quadro 7000 was 512 core

astral haven
#

there was one 480 512 that appeared in china once

#

and ive wanted it ever since

vagrant pagoda
#

Just get it made

#

The cores are swap able

#

Buy a 7000 and a 480

#

Send it to a GPU realir place

astral haven
#

but does it say its a 480?

vagrant pagoda
#

Swap cores

#

Yeah

astral haven
#

oh i suppose back then it was possible to hack the bioses regardless

#

hmm

#

thats actually not a terrible idea

vagrant pagoda
#

It will work with same bios

astral haven
#

feels kinda cheaty tho

vagrant pagoda
#

The only issue

#

It will run like shit

#

Because missing memory channel

astral haven
#

definetly cant get a 490 like that tho

#

between 7950gx2 and 7990 i have all of the dual gpus, and the only gpu thats messing up the pattern is the lack of a 490

vagrant pagoda
#

Nonwait

#

The 7000 and 6000 are 384 bit

#

So it definitely swaps

#

That's most likely what the Chinese one was

astral haven
#

yea its the same pcb

vagrant pagoda
#

Unless you saw it in a box that said 512 core

astral haven
#

nah but it had real es stickers?

#

may have been a 480 es that someone core swapped

vagrant pagoda
#

I have seen someone swap 295 cores with 285 cores

#

And it worked perfectly

astral haven
#

did it blow a hole in the pcb under the vrm if you tried to run any load on it?

vagrant pagoda
#

Lol nah

#

295 dual PCB ran fine

#

Just don't expect less than 100c

astral haven
#

yea but it used a heck ton of power

#

oh right

#

yea the dual pcbs never had that issue

vagrant pagoda
#

I mean it used twice a 275

#

The 295/275 is one channel and 4 rop short

#

That's why I was saying the 512 core might run slow

astral haven
#

the single pcb 295 would have converted the mossfets into fiberglass breaching charges

vagrant pagoda
#

There is a guy who swapped 285 cores on to a 295 and it ran like shit because of the missing channel

astral haven
#

interesting

vagrant pagoda
#

Got the extra 4.rops

astral haven
#

but gtx970 issues?

vagrant pagoda
#

That's why the 295 is like 890 mb

astral haven
#

what

vagrant pagoda
#

Not 1gb like 280/285

astral haven
#

oh MB

vagrant pagoda
#

It's missing a memory chip

astral haven
#

i was imagining a 8900gx2

vagrant pagoda
#

The pcie switch is where the missing channel is

#

And that stupid flex PCB which is what kills them all

#

Pretty sure it's a NF 200

ashen spindle
#

it's impressive how far we have come looking at those old halo flagships and what N4C was supposed to look like lol

vagrant pagoda
#

The best part about my single core working 295

#

The second PCb is the one that works

#

So the first PCB has working power delivery and nf200

#

But something else is wrong preventing the core from ever being detected
