yea basically everyone standardized on prores as the correct recording format
and apple built hardware prores accelerators into every m# chips
anyone here got a spotify car thing for their setup ?
in terms of overall usage I can't really pick a winner between the two, there's stuff I like and miss about both platforms
lemme introduce you to blackmagic design
davinci resolve is your friend
and stuff that annoys me
doesnt perform better than davinci on nvidia hardware
unless you are using prores on a m# chip with the prores accelerator
apples obsession to make everything proprietary is something I'm rather fed up with these days
^^
the thing i think everyone misses about the m# chips is they are slow at anything that doesnt have a dedicated accelerator
unless you drop out of the accelerators
if you are shooting braw, redcode or even h26510b, the m1 at least chugs hardcore
my camera shoots video faster than the ssd controller of the base m1 supports sustained writing
and it doesnt even shoot raw
my 1060 laptop can render my friends raw footage faster than his m2 mac mini can
been on ios for my daily driver since 2017 or so but considering a switch once I finally retire my current phone
and it can preview the video in realtime where the m2 can only do that in proxy
and this part is super insanely not true unless you are looking at overclocked desktops using intel cpus
as much as I can get along well with android as an OS I really loathe a lot of the google services and logging bs baked into most of the commercial builds
starting with some real basics
apple laptop gpus gets slaughtered in rendering by the 3060
same render, metal vs optix is just a bloodbath
for the same power usage, nvidia takes half the total render time
in gaming its kinda just sad
only time apple is at the top of the gaming charts is when nvidia isnt on it ๐คฃ
watts per frame gotta be better, using 30 watts for 20 frames vs 400 watts for 80 frames lol
give me efficiency or give me death!
yea except its more like 400w for 400 frames
and 120 watts for 200
the 4090 mobile is 80% the performance of the 4090 desktop when it uses 150 watts
ada is shit expensive but its efficient
and its 50% the performance for 100 watts (which is about the power usage of the m2 max gpu
as long as you pair it with a cpu on the same performance scale as the m#, aka intel u or anything ryzen post 4000 series, you are looking at far over double the performance for the same power usage
and thats in native metal games
in translation layer games your power goes up on the apple and the performance goes down
and if you want real watts per frame, get an amd apu and run holoiso
the 7040hs is solidly competitive in games with the 16 core m1 pro for 19 watts instead of 65
also defending apple using this line is serious chutspa
also we were talking about ampere because ada is in a different league and was released later
lets compare vs amd as well because amd makes socs under 100w, where nvidias smallest one is over 600w nowdays and cant even run games
when you compare raw rendering power the apple looks great!!!
but then oops
oooh thats a good result (the best result for mac gaming)
but then you realize its a $800 computer at 19 watts vs a $3200 computer at 80 watts
lets do some math here
19 watts at 47 fps
vs 80 watts at 83 fps
๐ค
500% rendering power but outmatched by 780m in game lol
yup
apple is not ahead in terms of gpu
they are ahead in terms of on die accelerator
they have dedicated super efficient hardware for video editing prores
that hardware is on par with 100 watts of nvidia for rendering prores and it consumes 3-5 watts
but as soon as you want to edit braw that silicon cant help you and its gg
and if you want to game? come on apple is not even trying
Is a ryzen 7700x3d and a 4070 ti a good pairing?
Iโm trying to build a new pc for myself but i want it to be a no compromise for around 2000 dollars or so.
havent heard of a 7700x3d
7800x3d oops
iโm trying to determine if i should go all AMD or something because im gonna be doing gaming and some streaming as well
if you are streaming, skip radeon
gotcha gotcha
but really intel isnt an option either way unless your target is under 1000 or a second pc
either way being cpu or gpu
๐ญ AMD has gotten so good since the last time i bought parts for a pc so itโs hard to pick and choose nowadays especially cause i want this pc to last longer than the i have one currently
yea you could make an argument for a 6800xt or a 6900xt at that price tho
if you werent streaming
nvidias just the way to go for recording and streaming cuz of encoders
just streaming
gotcha gotcha
recording doesnt matter
nvidia has a better 1 click recorder but if you have 30 seconds you can get the same quality on amd
is a 4070 ti a good gpu tho?
its a "good" gpu
4000 gen in general is pretty mid
its expensive for the performance
๐ญ yeah of course it is but i just meant like for future proofing for now
and something i wonโt regret thatโs all
no such thing
if you want to actually future proof
get a $1000 pc now, and then a $1000 pc when your current $1000 pc stops working
then you sell the first one for $400, and you end up having paid $1600 rather than $2000 and your second $1000 pc will be far faster than whatever you can buy now for $2000
you sound like a nvidia marketing genius
nvidia doesnt sell any new gpus that fit in a $1000 budget ๐คฃ
๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ
well maybe a 4060 but ๐ that
4060 makes me gag
10 series was the golden age
1080ti was fire
jensen and cook probably meet in the park on sundays to throw rocks at poor people
for $300 you could get the 970 which actually outperformed the 980 for the price even despite 3.5gb
i remember that controversy๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ
pascal was great but you couldnt get 95% of the flagship for half the price (always ignoring titans)
the 1080ti was a great card, but it was $700 and not double the performance of the 970 which again you could get for $300!!!
actually it was near double the perf
ok yea the 1080ti at 700 was actually fantastic
but 700 is a large chunk of change
until you get to todays cards lol
heres the crazy part about todays cards
the value is actually not bad if you look at fps at normal resolution per dollar in modern games compared to 10 series and before
but
you are looking at buying a card with a 70 name rather than a 80ti
for the same bracket
aka 4k 60 2023 games vs 1440p60 2015 games
or 1440p60 2023 games vs 1080p60 2015 games
https://tpucdn.com/review/asus-geforce-rtx-4060-strix-oc/images/average-fps-3840-2160.png
if your target is an average of 4k60, you are solidly enough over that with a 6800xt or 4070
and this is with craaaaaaanked settings
if you want to drive your 4k120hz tv at that on average, its gonna cost you significantly
but there simply was not that level of performance in existence 5 years ago
was this in games of the time or current games
i think its more interesting to talk about games around the launch of the cards
it levels off the graph a ton, but you are still getting double the fps vs what you previously had in that very same year's games
in 2023 games ofc the 1080ti gets reamed
i mean who would have thought
lowest end 2023 gpu wins in 2022 games vs highest end 2016 gpu
๐ฑ
but the 4070 still is faster at 2022 games than the 1080ti was at 2015 games
yea exactly
nvidia doesnt even have a gpu this gen that is at the same performance tier as the 1080ti is now
Got a fun new toy!
Hmmm
Another problem is I can't show what it looks like with text since all it does is screen mirroring
So if I open the camera app you can't see the text
Oh wait NVM I'm on android
Windows!
so it turns out it isnt very good as a second monitor for a desktop
and if i thought i couldnt handle 120hz?
lol

wot
I think the email vexx got might be spam, also got one today to a email I dont use for discord with my name with a different number after the hash
I got a reminder with an old alt account I made in 2015
Facebook moment
Does EVGA do anything at all these days? Feels like they've pulled out harder than a mormon on prom.
... or something.
PSUs
idk if they still do mice and keyboards
pretty sure they also did cases and motherboards
idk if it was a capture device or audio interface but they had a brick with a knob on it as well
why are PSUs so expensive
looking to build a nas/home server, anyone has experience with truenas scale? should i use it like a "hypervisor" or should i run it under proxmox
Update 07:45 UTC: We've heard from workers at EVGA Spain "it's just another day at the office". So maybe it was only Kingpin/the OC team in TW that has resigned, or the whole story is completely untrue.
why the scale version?
mainly cuz it's linux, not really familiar with freebsd + jails
use truenas core
thats way easier to setup for a singular storage server
also freebsd is also linux
well
unix
all the same anyway
but ideally youd use something like unraid and then just run a containerized truenas core from there
that way you can always spin up another normal linux container on the same server and have both running at the same time with easy management
if you want free alternatives to unraid id recommend proxmox
@fair gull my idea was to run truenas scale with a linux vm that runs all my containers - traefik, portainer and bunch of services and optionally expose some of them with cloudflare tunnel
id invert it tbh and not use truenas scale
when i tried it i had a bunch of difficulty setting it up to run containers
my final setup ended up being proxmox with tons of containers directly in there to remove vm overhead and then run truenas in a container as well
well that's why i want to run a separate vm that i would use to manage all my containers
ye but then you got overhead of running the vm
i dunno, there really seems no "best" solution for this
well the best solution is to not use VMs unless absolutely necessary
ideally youd run everything in LXC and if thats not possible docker
and only if both are not possible youd resort to a vm
i found this write up from wendell from level1techs https://forum.level1techs.com/t/truenas-scale-ultimate-home-setup-incl-tailscale/186444
Outcome We want a robust and reliable home server that makes it as easy as possible to run whatever services are relevant to us (NextCloud, Plex or Emby, Syncthing, VSCode server, whatever!) but that is also easy to manage and update. It should ideally consume less than 50 watts of electricity nominally and maybe as little as 10-15 watts when i...
that's basically the setup i wanted to go for originally
as mentioned i personally dont like the overhead of an entire vm
well its sort of like phones... some people will get iphones, others samsung and others sony phones
ask 10 people and get probably 8 different answers
i will see how it turns out, i don't even have the hardware at my hands yet + the hardware is not gonna be that beefy since i was going for maximum efficiency
if you go for maximum efficiency then id even more not use VMs
as in fully fledged kvm vms with an entire linux or freebsd or smth running
i'm getting one of the cheap intel celeron n5105 based boards
id only rely on LXC and docker tbh
It is not a direct alternative as much as a much more corporate and definitely not free alternative. ๐
Should I get the Viewsonic xg2431 when Iโm using a 3070
Depends on the games you play I suppose. Can you consistently get 240fps or so in those games?
Do you care more about hz than resolution?
I will play Fortnite and cs go and More fps games
i tried unraid and proxmox but stuck with proxmox
cause unraid expensivo
as mentioned my setup ended up being proxmox as the main os and then just tons of containers on it
including a truenas core container
Or should I get the Asus TUF Gaming VG259QM 24.5
Overkill for Fortnite
how would any monitor be overkill for fortnite?
You answered... some of my questions. Not the critical ones though ๐
Oh that is a monitor
what did you think it was lol
Who knows, it's lana
Lana works in some of the most mysterious ways in the universe
Thought it was laptop
Honestly fair enough
how would a laptop be overkill though
But 24.5" laptop, really?
Yeah xd I didn't read the entire name after the letter spam
Tbf TUF laptops typically are really budget
So it's not overkill in any means
Although I have questions why are you willing to spend what I'm seeing is 450$ for a 1080p display
Yeah
Overkill
Lana you need to learn what overkill means
It's just a weird purchase, overspending
high refresh rate probably
Is it OLED?
Why not get M27Q X?
HDR?
Lol no
as if you get hdr oled for that cheap lol
Lol
Why not get the Jiggybyte M27Q X?
It's a really damn good display in same price range as the viewsonic
Except it's just better
most likely gonna end up with the same setup
its google blue
Tf are they doing now
I was wondering why a few subreddits I was in started posting porn all of a sudden

This whole Apollo drama is tiring
On one hand Reddit's fine to monetize the API
But wtf is this with the borderline autocratic "I tell you how to live your life" posts from Reddit staff
it's not just apollo
And the stupid high API fees
the problem is not even them trying to monetize the api
Apollo said it would cost like 3 million to keep the app running per year with the cost Reddit want to charge
Reddit isn't fully monetizing the API either
They are still keeping the free tiers
But yes the paid tiers cost way too much
But it makes sense cause most bot devs will just use the free tier
the free tier is unuseable for any bigger distributed app
Client makers will be forced to use the paid tier, which I guess is what exactly what Reddit wants
You want to compete with your own app and use our API? Pay up
except no client has a big enough userbase to fund the api fee
So they are competing for profits
and no client ever will
Any person that doesn't use reddit's native client and goes to use Apollo's to view reddit content and pays a subscription fee to Apollo is just lost profits
since the api fee was calculated on every apollo user coughing up like 2,50 or something
the issue is reddit is overcharging, basically, the people who create the value in reddit to begin with
I can't argue at all with that yeah, Reddit is very much overcharging
But it's clear to see why
I can still think of multiple ways to implement it better
I tried the official app before
It's total garbage
It is?
like give the option for people to make a personal api key that they can use in whatever app they want
reddit is only useable via the website or third party clients
their own app is literally trash
Idk I've been using the official app for years and it's fine
I've never even heard of apollo before this drama
communicate with client makers to have a free tier that has ads from reddit
etc
it even is on the website
all that will happen over time is reddit being a ghost town
and people just go back to forums
Forums are unpopular
Also most users prolly can't even name a single forum
Mainstream social media is far more appealing than forums
Reddit isn't dying anytime soon, if ever
until said media is devoid of good content
and forums are far from unpopular
especially in the tech space
hacking forums, ltt forums, cheating forums, game related forums
are all well and alive
Those are really specialized and niche in grand scheme of things
Most users would never use those
Reddit's basically for normies anyways
but yes reddit might actually die if they continue to think and act as if reddit generates the value in the website
when in reality reddit doesnt generate any value.
any social media platform is only as valueable as its userbase
and reddit doesnt understand that apparently
or well the ceo doesnt
^
i mean twitter has also done some stupid mistakes and yet the platform itself is thriving
I'd argue that's false
same thing will happen to reddit
The value is that it's a community place where people of all kinds gather to spread their knowledge and whatever
You run into sunken cost fallacy when you have this outrage rn
the vocal part of the community is marginal in the big view
People leave, and come back after a week
When you incorporate Reddit into your lifestyle, what are you going to replace it with?
Twitter's dying, Facebook is useless
the next reddit
A forum.
I dumped leddit, no way I'm using that official shit app
Reddit has no real competition rn
Yeah
Community content
Reddit doesn't make content
Only ads to insert between every 4 posts
its like saying youtube has no competition when they actually do
theres tons of video platforms
YouTube has plenty of competition nowadays, just none as popular
Yes it probably won't die, 99% of the users use new leddit and official app because they don't know better, but they say the 1% that doesn't use those things are the power users, mods, content creators, without them leddit is dead, or so they say
the same goes for reddit
YouTube has the best video player though
Clean and functional
Others have a crappy video player UI with less features and slower loading times
The streaming platform wars are rn what's the hot topic
reddit has tons of competitors
There are at least 4 main streaming websites that are fighting for the crown
i do like the bilibili player
I have not seen that one
YouTube is still the king but that might change in 10 years
I think idk
If only bilibili wasn't chinese
niconico douga also has a nice player
Or used four syllabels.
I get tired just pronouncing it twice in a conversation ๐
look a japanese guy smoking and the comments automatically fly across the video
best feature
dont need any plugins to stream the chat on screen
Wooting streams after another harrowing product release
Twitch needs that shit
Easy to implement via stream apps like OBS. I like it not being a default option.
Wtf why it try to auto download the app????
the fact just is: reddit is dying and has compeition. vex just cause you only use reddit and personally dont want to use forums doesnt mean they dont exist or are dead
Wait, Rumble is an actual video hosting platform?
I thought they only did streaming like Kick
We'll see if Reddit actually dies, I bet it will not
Speaking of dying platforms. I'm still waiting to see where the cards land for Twitter. You've got bluesky.social, there's mastodon? there's hive and now Threads (which isn't even globally available)
Ok that's a cool feature for a Livestream
oh so twitter can die but reddit cant?
Only if they get their GDPR shit sorted out.
But maybe hell for moderation
Still yet to see anything on the scale of Reddit for reddit to die off and users to migrate somewhere else
Considering how garbage the instagram experience is on big computors I got no hope for Threads
Platforms don't truly die. People just move on. Facebook is a great example.
I don't even use the official Instagram app....
That's what I said
Where will users migrate?
Use a patched version
Most users just visit shit like r/animalpics r/videos r/pics r/funny and other generic shit
What forum will replace that? None
Reddit will only die when a comparative service becomes available and gets marketed to hell while Reddit screws up
Plenty of forums and other platforms for that.
Hence Twitter being on its wobbly legs
I've not yet seen a single example
Uh huh. Closing your eyes when ones are mentioned will do that ๐
nono those forums i mentioned are way too specialized
Why does YouTube automatically play a random YT Short when you open the app now?? .-.
It's the worst
thats like saying you cant use r/funny as an example cause that subreddit is way too specialized
so who posts on reddit directly
or do they post on subreddits
which are specialized
almost like a forum
hmm.....
its almost like reddit is just 1 big forum
Forum that is so diverse, varied and encompasses people of all spectrums and interests
What competition is there for that?
Discord can do that, maybe
Again I am yet to see a single service for people to migrate to for Reddit to ever become irrelevant and die
Yeah but it shouldn't happen
None of the shorts it plays are shit I'm interested in
Shorts is fucking stupid I hate that shit
But I guess people have no attention spans and must watch everything on their phone and turning it 90 degrees is an impossible ask
So used to be Vine (which is making a comeback apparently), TikTok and other trash
Super short span videos are in general just cringe ass
Tony needs those wheels to arrive ASAP.

It's kinda crazy seeing the price of he new AMD GPUs
ATM
Well it isn't since scalping isn't as bad/demand not as much
But christ a 7900xt is really solid price wise in the UK
Cheapest XTX still 1066.83 โฌ here
Lol XT is nowhere near as good as the XTX
XT is 889, not really worth it
6800XT is like sub-600, best deal that currently exists
price calculated over lifetime?
is not a deal unless energy efficiency is being considered
Wait what on earth
I was just checking twitter for Threads stuff, see the rats scurry about
They introduced a new feature?
This isn't new
Haven't seen this feature yet
any1 knows this pc case?
looks very phanteks
thanks
Because they want to harvest all possible data
Isn't snap also a video platform?
Yeah
But taking a photo is default when you open the camera screen
Isn't single click = photo, hold = video?
The app just needs permissions in case you do take a video
If you cancel it might kick you out, or it might not
So uh....
I don't allow Snapchat to access my contact list
Yet it's suggesting I add a friend based on them being in my contact list
Why TF
Does it know she's in my contacts??
It shouldn't
Contact perms are off
Pretty sure the app can't just bypass android permissions if it wants to
If other people share their contacts with snap it probably cross references that
It shouldn't be able to see what numbers are on my phone
Instagram does the same :/
But that's Facebook
I'm sure they bypass any permissions they can
Those apps do harvest all data they can, and most people just accept it all
Yeah
But I've disabled it's contact list permissions
Allegedly
My phone says I have
Old, but relevant
But has she disabled that permission?
I never granted it in the first place
It never asked for the permission and it's not granted automatically
This version of Android doesn't even let apps send notifications without you giving them permission first
Hmmm
On pixel buds you only get the change the bass level
But in Google nest you get to choose bass and treble
Why no treble slider on the buds?
To get you to download more bloat
Also certain apps are useless
Proper EQ apps would allow you to tweak everything
This is the one inside google Home app
GM want to remove Apple Carplay and Android Auto from their cars
because they think they can make their own system to replacve them with
yep .-.
It's funny how a car from 2010s can be considered more reliable and better than one from '20s onwards
got to love paying a year's wage for a car, only to find out you cant use the AC unless you pay even more for the AC upgrade package
/S
We are innovating backwards
But car makers SURELY can't just make a profit with just car sales right?
Those margins sure are tiny
... not
ikr!! they cant buy their 5th yacht if they dont charge for stupid upgrade packages that just readd basic features
Yo do guys both got wootings sorry to interrupt
yes
Was it worth it
I've had mine for years and I don't need anything else
Yes, but I cant currently use mine due to limited desk space (I have the Wooting Two which is fullsize)
So yes I think it's worth it
Pleb, buy the TKL off of Ebay
Ahh ok got it
I have a 60%
I just ordered mine
60% ๐คข
is perfect for desk space
Why would people torture themselves with 60% I swear
๐ถ
I mean if you like to take it up yer arse like a masochist then sure, 60% is good
McGregor's a funny bloke. A bit mental, but funny
I bought a Walmart keyboard cause I was in a rush and now Iโve had it for like over 3 years and I need to replace it so I got a Wooting
and being investigated for SA of female staff at various locations
That whole story is weird
But there's video footage that somewhat confirms that something did go down in that NBA match vicinity
Not good look for Gregor who is having a family back at home in Eireland
The Frog xd
I look like such a functioning member of society in this car

Nvm
Raining
HAH
I just saved my FM transmitter frequency in the radio system
Why is the bonnet lever on the freaking passenger side?
Wait.....
You learned to drive in an EV????
Damn
Where is "here"? I wanna go
Ooooohhhh
I was there
Yeh...saw a fuck ton of EVs ๐
Probably designed with right hand driving in mind
cause they didnt redesign it for the british version? idk
Does Spain drive on the left?
Cause seat are Spanish
Ahh..that explains it xd
Does Spain have the driver seat in left?
Mainland Europe.. All drive on the right
... No
Yes
Opposite of what you have
Okk
It worries me that the passenger could accidentally trigger that lever with their foot when they sit into the car
Cause you push it towards the front ...
Granted
I don't have passengers 99% of the time
Soooo
It looks like you pull it back to me?
Which would be VERY damn difficult to do by accident.
Hmmm
I haven't used it yet
When it stops raining I'm gonna check for wiper fluid though
LOL one of the previous owners must have really liked speaking Irish or soemthing
they stored the irish radio station on here
the one that ONLY speaks in Irish
Instagram Threads is the new Twitter/Mastodon/Bluesky alternative that just hit the worldโunfortunately with several issues. From the timeline, to privacy concerns, to its ActivityPub integration, and more! Here are the several issues behind this Facebook/Meta product that I think should be considered before you open an account.
Why Privacy Mat...
(also hes in the EU so he has to avoid Threads anyway cause we cant get it here anyway xd)
With how shitty and broken Facebook has been for years. Can't blame em.
yep
I am VERY skeptical as well.
You can get Threads in the Eu if you manually install it as apk no?
probably yeah
I think the limiter is your account and country settings, not a country block as such?
oh
No you can change Region or vpn or install the apk
It just doesnโt offer it in the store for eu people to download
OH GOOD YOU CAN TURN THIS SHIT OFF
on youtube
no more playing the vudeo in the thumbnail when hovering
So that's why it's not showing up for me
Lana
yo
We still follow EU laws that were passed before we left.
But it launched in the uk?
ooh
Uk got Threads because itโs not part of eu regulation anymore
Because itโs not an existing law that prevents it like that comment thinks but because meta is being preemptively careful since they did not get explicit guidelines for privacy rules
Thatโs why itโs launched in the uk because they donโt expect the uk to make privacy concerns like the eu lol

Algorithms are fucking stupid at times. Posting a video in a tweet dramatically reduces your reach. So most twitch and youtube content creators have to do this shit. Post the actual video link in a response every time.
Doesnโt help that there are also lots of myths because itโs not public so streamers did that for a while but in reality it was worse
Pic in it and link might be better now? System is complicated but you need to play it
cKnoor does streaming and community management for Paradox. If he does it, it's definitely backed by hard data ๐
Oh I remember that happening

even if it recorded raw video (which it doesnt) the internal storage of the phone would still be fast enough to directly record the video
4677 is such an expensive platform :/
Dual Marvell AQUANTIA
dafuq that mean?
dual marvell aquantia 10gbe
it's a brand
Oh
means theres 2 10gbe ports
so you gunna buy or not?
probably not
rip
rumours lule
thats good news?
maybe
means other vendors dont get good engineers and we know some could use it xD
"We saw those message and they are rumors.
Our Taiwan office is still operating and Kingpin is still with EVGA.
EVGA is still doing business and supporting its customers.
he can move to the us and still work at evga
him going also likely wouldnt break the motherboard team
@prisma craghttps://www.digitaltrends.com/space/nasa-experimental-supersonic-jet-edges-toward-first-flight/
That schnose though
That's hell of a schnose
i mean what other option do they have lol
imagine your job is to sharpen the nose of an airplane after every flight lol
oh the nose isnt even a cone
its a
uh not sure what to call that
bill?
if they point cameras in every direction and record all of them, they could use it as a camera plane
do the tesla camera car trick of having your camera zoom around your subject even when moving fast
It looked quite nice when Steve and him where driving the bikes around Taiwan
I mean, that depends on how you judgje the china risk, some would probably love to get away from there
Taiwan? Yeah I'll take that any day over the US. Way too many gunhappy idiots
youd be surprised how easy it is to find a place to live without that issue
sure but I take that over a warzone (hence if someone judges the china risk to be quite big)
also rural places without methheads exist still
even tho we have the highest gun density, its not like switzerland where everyone owns one, its more like a small proportion owns a tooooon of them, and most folks dont have one
half of the guns in the us are owned by 3% of the population
and the us has 1.2 guns per person on average
yea folks like fpsrussia made it seem like that was normal but thats really not what normal americans do
oh and its not like isreal where you cannot walk around without seeing someone open carrying a rifle
ive actually never seen someone with a gun in public
Yeah. Not-America is lovely this time of every year.
besides ofc police

remember seeing some guy carrying a rifle and the corresponding flag through a park some years ago
good times
So, I guess it's more of a question to @astral haven unless we have some other network engineer people
I have an app that keeps throwing bad SSL requests, devs said to check if TLS 1.2 is enabled
Is that supposed to not to exist, and I'm supposed to make the folder myself
Or is that just wrong on my end of Windows
ssl is application level, its not really generally a network engineering thing
what sort of app is this, and what is it using as a back end for the ssl?
Fuck do I know, it's Vortex
oh god
these schannel keys dont exist usually (had to create them once as well)
not for vortex though
although in my case it also didnt fix it
god i hope they arent using IE as a backend
many things just use ie settings
Error: self signed certificate in certificate chain
I don't think it's my AV blocking it, I already disabled the AV's web traffic protection
Got to love youtube sugestions, a 5 year old video about the vega release from ltt
Well now we know, they ran hot, but they weren't "hot"
Good for mining
thats unacceptable unless you are hosting the thing yourself
if its someone else hosting it, its on them to fix
It literally doesn't react to anything I do to it
and you shouldnt use it until they get it fixed
because whatever u access uses selfsigned certs
Logins not responding, trying to get it to react to API isn't responding either
if you ignore that error anyone could just pretend to be the server
anyone can sign their own certs
^
"Encountered an invalid SSL certificate. If this happens on a network connection to a server that has a proper certificate (like the Nexus Mods API) it may indicate a significant security issue in your system."
Yeah but how on earth do I fix that
if this is the error, you cant fix it
if the cert is invalid, you need to wait for them to update it
they literally say in this post they dont use self signed certs
Yeah I already found that one, didn't help
heck it could be someone hijacked something of theirs and is now stealing all the data they can
and as they said this means the chain has been intruded by another cert that shouldnt be there
check your av if you have one
maybe it just does some funky ssl spying shit
As I said, I disabled the web antivirus
It's kaspersky so it loves to fuck with internet traffic, but I disabled the web AV component
So it should be not functioning
What do you even mean
kaspersky literally uses its own certs
i had so many issues with its dumb certificates
i like how the response to running into a security error is to disable the antivirus
definetly the best way to keep yourself safe from whatever caused the security error lol
I don't even have such settings
well i think it was over generalized but from 8yrs of pain i can assure you kasperskys dumb ssl interception has caused me weeks worth of pain
crap wrong kaspersky version
Wouldn't I want it to scan encrypted connections?
Wait I just saw that setting a minute ago
But it's not under Additional
It's just under Network Settings
i mean its not wrong but its still quite poor design on the part of the av vendor lmao
But is that a good or a bad thing
Like, this keeps me safe even if it brings pain from time to time
well yesnt
define safe
it should be able to keep you safe before and after an ssl connection
its the thing that the internet uses to verify a website is what it says it is
there are something like 10 trusted ones that the internet uses as a base
Again isn't that technically a good thing though, if you trust the software to do its thing
if you are working in an enterprise, the enterprise will install one so that their hardware can intercept all of your traffic and inspect it
I would assume most protections would want you to get a root cert?
but that means it can see every single bit of data transferred
Isn't that the risk all cybersecurity providers take by offering their high-end services?
Or is this a rare occurence
most protections know before the ssl connection is established that its bad
the better vendors just use a browser extension that notices a link is faked or whatever
using the extension is alot safer than the root cert
ye
Wouldn't the root cert thingy be useful in mitigating some zero days?
literally back in my old job the first thing when i saw kaspersky was disable the ssl shit cause it always caused some kind of issue
no
zero days dont happen over ssl
not to mention how would kaspersky know its a zero day
Yeah I'm way out of my technical knowledge lane with how networking and interconnections work
it sees some weird stuff and just waves it through
digicert, verisign, comodo, etc
all the real vendors do not screw around at all
ye
anyway im glad my ancient (roughly 9month old) knowledge came in good
last time i can find news of a ca breach was in 2011 and it was a chinese state group that did the hack
Thanks bud
Not sure why Kaspersky is so intrusive though, I guess it's considered secure this way?
Would you really call a recognised AV provider shady?
you think in the current situation kaspersky is not shady?
even if we assume all the people working there are fine it's like china, is not like they might have totaly control
Ehh, I would want to put away regional affiliations and consider them as non-biased
Especially since they moved their servers and such to Switzerland I think
you hope ๐คท
Look as far as consumer AVs go, Kaspersky seems to be the go-to
Strongest one according to tests done in terms of malware protection
So that's the one I've gone with
you could personally know all of the people working on it I would still not trust it
just like with china I dont have issues because they are chinese but because of government influence
If there's a better option that is just as capable, I'd be all ears to changes
idk I just use defender
windows defender in online mode and when using edge is significantly more powerful
I don't use edge and I will never do so, so I guess defender is meh
Wth is Defender online
All results are for offline
its the one that doesnt use cloud and only gets updated every week or so
Yeah but where is it
Neither ๐ ฑ๏ธing nor Google show any results for "Defender online"
I just found that
And I was going to ask if that's it
Again based on testing, Kaspersky is ahead in terms of malware protection
Is there anything that isn't Russian that is as good as Kaspersky?
Bitdefender? Eset?
all of these switched on should be defender online
also what testing found defender to be lacking?
pc security channel testing isnt particularly helpful since it bypasses smartscreen which is basically all of the online part of defender
It was indeed the PC security channel, which Carmonben, you yesterday linked yourself
Would have been this
yep
just because i agree with his methodology for this one test doesnt mean i agree with everything he says
Again I do understand why the AV testing would be considered as not particularly conclusive
Considering that the malwares are already known and all
kaspersky is probably the best cleanup tool once you are infected maybe?
Isn't smartscreen that annoying popup that just asks you if you want to run the app?
thats the part of smartscreen that you see usually
That isn't very protective of it
Usually you just run it anyways cause scan returned nothing
if you actually get a virus with smartscreen enabled it will show this screen instead
and there is no option to run the program
Pretty sure there is, if you go to more info and run anyways
different error
Defender though is very aggressive with flagging anything though
again 2 errors
smartscreen will not let you run something it knows is a virus
it will however flag anything that isnt signed properly
now they should have the actual detection show up as a different error entirely like they do for websites and links that are known bad
and sometimes they just make the program vanish if its flagged as dangerous enough
i havent really heard anything about cylance
is it on the level of the big edr tools like crowdstrike, sentinelone, and carbon black?
Isn't this borderline technically impossible rn?
intel had it running 12 years ago
Personally, I find it perfectly acceptable that AMD doesn't allow or at least doesn't allow DLSS / Nvidia marketing on Games they did co-branding/consulting on.
Of course strictly speaking it's directly negative for the Consumer, but I do think it is warranted.
DLSS is a vendor locked tech after all, that is closed source and is protected against creating a translation layer to run it on non Nvidia hardware.
Another thing is I can see it being a thing from a marketing perspective: we promote open standards, also a game we market looks best with a vendor locked tech from our competitor.
Just seems pretty much an understandable choice.
The real solution is to improve FSR2 to the point DLSS becomes obsolete which would fix sadly easier said than done.
the fact is though they are not limiting it at all
neither the part of marketing it nor including it
That could definitely be true, just saying it would be acceptable if they did exclude it
well thats just like saying intel didnt limit the sale of amd cpus in the mid 00's
Realistically they would just block nvidia marketing and devs being to lazy (budget constrained)/ ignorant to try and negotiate / implement DLSS themselves.
That seems plausible considering the state of half those pc ports
they obviously only help them out including fsr, no comment about "hey if you also add dlss addd that line here to make it easier"
most reasons are time constraints for big titles
why add another upscaler if you can put the dev to work on fixing something else for launch
etc.
because nvidia makes it easy to add all 3 at once?
Either way, I really hope AMD pulls some rabbit out of their head to have good improvements on FSR
Nvidia allows adding all 3 because they know theirs is best, of course. Noone who can run DLSS is going to run FSR 2 I hope
talking about the scenario of amd sponsored title where they will either implement fsr themselves or help out with that
again tho this is violently antiuser that its worth repeating how much deserved hate intel and nvidia have gotten in the past when they did the same thing
Also it's distributed under Nvidia's control and I don't know if the FSR implementation is optimal, it does require some tuning for each of these.
either way the whole thing is just annoying because journalists go for clickbaits instead of doing research
and because AMD PR shows incompetence again as well
should have had a better answer gone through legal faster so you can respond better
Definitely AMD needs to reorganize it's PR
the journalists didnt get proof for 10 years that intel was intentionally witholding money from companies that work with amd
They really require a good corporate person with a strong position and constraint to fix that marketing mess
there is a difference between sniffing something out/having sources etc. or having it all based on wccft which is a site where you are forced to make 1-2 articles a day regardless of what happens in the world
low quality site going for clickbaits is not the same as someone trying to dig something up that might be the case
the exact same general sentiment was felt in 2004 or 5 or whenever it was
and while its fair to feel that way, its simply not useful
I want to add here that what's often missed is that those sponsored titles are not just marketing, AMD / Nvidia definitely do technical consulting / helping here.
Asking something more than a logo in return seems fair in that regard.
As for Intel / Nvidia doing the same, in those cases they were never pushing a moderately worse open standard over also including a closed but better performing standard by the competitor.
I don't think Nvidia would have gotten flack if they blocked a dev from having a mantle implementation pre dx12/vulkan
I will gladly entertain the idea that either of the big companies is engaging in bad behaviour any day, not if the sources is wccftrash lol
so make arguments that include that rather than attacking the character of the reporters
they have a massive track record of bogus articles with false information and all
Their coverage was largely a opinion piece based on a history of games not including DLSS and a lack of comment by AMD.
yes but this all stemmed from when wcc posted it first and since then there was no further indicator for it, aside from some amd games not having it and some lacking comparisons of what sponsors titles have it/dont have it while ignoring factors like console release etc.
console releases cant have dlss yet?
it means extra work on a port when we currently are saying most console ports have other issues already
and if there were a significant number of sponsored titles that did have it, then sure that would be less and less interesting
I feel like a big contributing factor seems to be at least to me that AMD's marketing department really seems to have very little access to the rest of the company.
Which seems to be at the source of a lot of blunders on their front. But that seems to be my speculation.
"oh its ok for amd to be evil because their company structure is awful"
you must be an olympian long jumper to be ok with making that leap...
if you swap the names nvidia and amd and the respective tech and your opinion on the matter changes, then you need to rethink your position
One does not exclude the other, AMD's marketing department is known to bo blunder.
Just saying even if it's intentional blocking it would be acceptable to me.
Just remember you are talking to a linux user who sticks to custom roms on android, I am pretty sure I have some bias towards open standards.
yep and im not arguing that what amd is currently doing is definetly bad
im just arguing that what it looks like amd is doing is most certainly extremely evil and you should heavily reconsider your ethics for thinking that its ok
I will take a fight against vendor locked standards anytime given the chance
If DLSS was open source I would not defend AMD just because it can't perform on cards without the AI cores Nvidia has or with less of them.
But DLSS is closed off.
for the moment these standards are vendor locked however because companies like imagination and qualcomm cannot run dp4a or whatever
its ok as long as the standards are locked off to more than 1 huge corporation?
yea right lmao
I don't mind if it doesn't perform on all vendor's just like I don't mind it if games have heavy RT implementations. However I do not like closed vendor locked implementations, that make switching cards harder based on historical choices.
regardless of the argument if it would be ok or not, I trust a random amd engineer more than a random article with questionable comprehension skills
amd engineers dont make the decisions
I know I'm not saying this is pure fact or the lead of anything
quake 2 rtx
oh wait lmao
I still trust that more than some random hunch that lacks imo any actual grounds to believe it more than cautiously considering it
yea quin healthy skepticism is fine and all
I think assuming amd does this is very unhealthy skepticism lol
based on the small tidbits on information
but again
if your position changes after swapping the names around and considering what would happen (and i mean seriously considering it)
then your position is wrong
yep which is why im arguing with qlum who thinks it is
that's why I prefaced the image with me not arguing that part ๐
I just took a bit to find that image again
If swapping names around I would still say it's okay.
if swapping the closed and the open standard around I would say it's not.
ah so you are just blindly rubberstamping anything that says open source on the tin
great
thats how we got where we are today with rocm
Open standard, not open source, if it's closed source but could reasonably be shimmed to work on other vendors it would be fine too, even if fundamentally one vendor's hardware is better suited for it.
heres an unpopular opinion
just because you can see the source code doesnt mean its open
and especially you shouldnt believe companies when they say they are supporting open source
I never said anything about the source code, rather can it be run on other vendor's hardware providing they have the capabilities.
whos to say dlss cant?
amd is a solid 4 + generations behind nvidia in terms of their ai processing power, and their support for ML is worse than even that of qualcomm...
whos to say that amd couldnt make it work
I have seen no evidence that it can, Nvidia has had a track record that shows little evidence that it can. Also Intel Exists and as far as I know they are further ahead on that regard
amd made directx work on their hardware
Of course DirectX specification is open, any vendor can make hardware that speaks DirectX
Or at least available
that was not true when the xbox released
microsoft "opened" up to put the screws to nvidia
Now to be fair they did it a heck of a lot faster than Nvidia has done for dlss so far
But nvidia has opened up physx even though physx has actually no competition whatsoever and is incredibly vital to the robotics space
Tldr amd probably not doing anything problematic
But do not for an instant pretend it is ok if they do, that is how we ended up with 15 years of intel
15 years of intel had very different reasons as for physx not really relevant as it aggressively locked out amd during its prime even refusing to run if your main gpu was amd while using a dedicated physx gpu on the side.
Sure it's open source now and at this point I would say it is indefensable it amd blocked the inclusion of physx in sponsored titles.
I would also say that if amd were to prevent studio's from using heavier forms of ray-tracing on sponsored titles, it would also be indefensible.
The last part is actually as plausible as blocking DLSS, maybe even more so.
15 years of intel was because intel was the open option, then once everyone migrated over and they stopped being the underdog, they pulled out the lawyers
and it took 10 years for the legal wounds to heal enough for anyone else to start making a comeback
and physx currently has a complete monopoly for machine training real world robots in the industry
the gaming physx was meh but it worked on every vendor of cpu, and it was only locked to cuda...
only nvidia advantage was that they ran cuda on the gpu
@prisma crag started watching Succession recently and wow
middle of S2 atm, crazy how they can make you feel sorry for billionaires

also Greg

@zealous cloak why are you mass deleting messages
i thought some nuke happened in the logs but its just deleted messages of you
its all in the log lol

who knows what bots scrape this server for messages
uh ok gl thinking that
oh now were to general as well
good to see its not just techtalk
no but bots can repost it with all user info
and any user can log it as well
since all discord clients in a guild are informed about the message deletion
i wish discord would offically log it like they log messages deleted by someone whos not the author
You can with a script, actually
But that's technically against ToS but god knows if they actually care
And a bot doesn't?
I guess it's a bit different if a bot and a user just spams the API
yes, ban feature includes that, and any bot can do it too
You can't ban yourself you know
Actually, maybe you can
Say something naughty and the automod might ban you ๐
I would suggest against that
Or 5 mins with chatgpt and such
What's driving?
Thanks dad
Or uncle
That script looks fine ngl
Although not sure why the client login is at the very end
Now that I'm reading a bit into the code, it doesn't necessarily make much sense
Yeah it assumes that const channel somehow has an array of things
Which it shouldn't?
Although it's calling channels.cache, maybe that actually returns a full list of messages?
Need to test it to see if it actually does anything
so nice that it wouldnt work
Where did it go wrong?
I know not a shred of JS
the fact that discordjs and pretty many other libs dont support user tokens for login
as its against tos
mainly stems from userbots being annoying and not really liked or even tolerated much in the discord dev community
yeah
you'd only get your account banned if you used it in a server with someone that hates selfbots or is friends with someone that works @ discord
or someone that works @ discord saw it
py
looks like it would work
yes that would most likely work if you can run selfbot using the library
wait selfbots cant use .purge lol
or can they now ๐ค
LOL
correct purge/bulkDelete is a bot only endpoint
youd almost instantly get banned i imagine
home know about cars
Me battery drained
It's slowly going up
So I just wait right?
This won't seem to kick into charge mode under 12v or some shit
fuck is it expensive
