especially in the eu the tracking will be an issue to get on market, since its easy that it could track people that arent you without them knowing etc. so I'm not even worried it would arrive here
This TV sounds like a good deal
Also there's
A simple way to get this company in big trouble
What if this TV is in a childs room...and you know they change clothes? Badabing badaboom
OOOOOFFF
yeah
or their kid runs out of the bathroom after a shower and runs through the sitting room
so they just run a filter that detects it and cuts out everything so they only lose some data but still collect the rest
so unless you put your naked child infront of it 24/7 that likely wouldnt do anything
Nah man the idea this footage is even potentially collected could make a lot of shit go down
^
if the potential of things would stop them we would not have a lot of things lmao
So Nvidia just announced ULMB 2 or Ultra Low Motion Blur 2. This is the latest gen of backlight strobing tech to greatly reduce motion blur in game. It runs on the latest 360Hz monitors, could give Zowie DyAc a run for its money, and makes a pretty strong case to stick with IPS in 2023.
๐ PULL IT DOWN FOR THE GOOD STUFF ๐
โ GET THE NEW FIRMWARE ...
yes this is a concern but I highly doubt they completely did not think about it or ignored it and if they just not capture it when the filter thinks its that content then it doesnt even record it locally
less go
i doubt they collect raw footage
prob only detect bodypart location xbox kinect style
together with facial features
A Tennessee family said someone hacked a Ring security camera set up in their children's bedroom and taunted their 8-year-old daughter.
The LeMay family, of Memphis, told NBC News they installed the device to keep an eye on their daughters. A few days later, the family said a stranger had gained access to the device.
Get the full story here:...
its great and all, but I aint going back from oled to something like that xD I rather hope we get some REALLY bright oleds and do BFI and such well
and yeah, people already do insecure home surveillance xD so a tv with only motion cameras is sadly nothing new
yeah I had a scythe cooler back in the 775 era
FUMA2 is an incredibly good cooler though

We just need an Amazon Basics CPU, Motherboard, and GPU, some Amazon Basics RAM and HDDS / SSDS and a PSU, and we're on our wait to the AmazonBasics Home Computer
Ring Home pc free for you and just keylogs everything and Webcam is always on

As if 12VO wasn't bad enough.
ASUS reveals the first GeForce RTX 4070 GPU that does not require any power cables
https://t.co/qUHJxrYMV4

I mean it seems better than the 12vhpwr cable at least
Less cable, less user error
Fewer cables, more power running through the motherboard. More complex and expensive design.
As if motherboards we'rent the main point or failure longterm to begin with
but since we are already getting higher layer counts due to pcie signals I think that would be easier to do now than some years ago
the failure point part sure that could be a concern
would all the gan tech also have use in psus?
The what tech
gallium nitride
I mean thats still a bit vague but in general yes, smaller/more efficent transistors would work in a psu just like anywhere else
Most desktop PSUs target several hundred watts which is not efficiently handled by solid state transformers.
You could build a solid state 50/60hz ac -> several khz ac -> dc supply like those used in laptop chargers.
It would outperform existing PSUs, but the cost would likely be quite high (close to $1000).
Most higher power applications (including desktop PSUs) use switch mode power supplies.
my cable just broke randomly
it didnt even melt or burn
it just stopped working
now i have a sketchy new cable
couldnt get a cablemod one since those take a month+ to ship
just as bad as the esports crossed arms lmfao
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2jZ1wP10ImE thats the thing that confuses me why asus didnt add that as one of the first things to armory crate

8% battery on Spotify in 27 ain't normal right
thats very high
I love this 7a but the battery is genuinely irritating me
Left at 5:30 with 29% and it's now 7pm with 5%
Which would seem ok if I'm bloody watching videos but all I'm doing or was
Was listening to my phone and checking a WhatsApp message every so often
Ok tbf I took 5 photoa
Something funky going on
It seems to be a genuine issue for the 7a
But no response from googlen
I see so many battery issue posts for the 7a :/
No simple fix ATM
Was more than 30 min o.0
My phone is confused
Ye but it wasn't showing this before ๐
Oh
These stats are till 6pm
Which makes sense
As I started playing music at 5:30
The batter hasn't updated past 6pm yet
From 5:40 till 6pm
๐

Oh I get that
My original comment was me in the store keeping an eye on my %
I'm not exactly saying it's Spotify
Overnight I'll lose like 30% sometimes or even more!
Ye :/
Apparently I'm not the only one
Everyone keeps saying just wait for adaptive battery bla bla
on my 7a i have no problems with battery
it dint charge at night once and only losed a few %
But it's been 2 weeks nearly
Ye I see this too
It's bizarre
77 votes and 163 comments so far on Reddit
Can I see your battery usage
Out of curiosity
Because I fucking love this phone so much but the battery is annoying me.
It feels worse than my previous phone sometimes
Don't worry, we won't judge for the porn hub app
i woke up 2 hours ago
i dont use my phone that much maby ~2 hours of youtube or media so i just charge it at night
but even with a few hours it usaly at 70% left at the end of the day
That just isn't the case for me lol
i am using graphene os so i do have less google running in the back ground
I was at 60% when I woke up at 12pm and now it's 2% at 7:34 ๐
Idk man XD
45% in 10hours with basically no usage
thats way different from me i can still have 90% left with a day of no usage
i do have buetooth and mobile data disabled
:/
Maybe I should inquire about a replacement
Also Snapchat was viewing stuff not my camera but also wtf 39 minutes?
So for context on how bad it is.... my m9t with 45% battery health is at 81% and has been idling alll day today, last night and a bit of yesterday.... all with my original apps and a sim card.
๐
ah my favorite, pain and confusion
Witchcraft
I currently have a 1 tb pci-e 3.0 ssd at 87% health
Should I upgrade to a 2 tb pci-e 4.0
?
For now at least
Where is that deal?
Is that some dram-less qlc thing?
I'm still on all sata ssds
sadge
This is so wholesome โบ๏ธ
though none of the games I play uses direct storage yet
Diablo 4 might
also my nvme slot is right under my GPU
or behind it
even my old 4790K rig uses an nvme
Same
well, there are more just not on pc yet
and idk if ratched and clank is ever coming to pc
mine is in between the cpu and gpu slot
haven't had any heat issues though, but then I don't have a super high end overkill gpu either
To be fair some parts of the drives like to run hotter
usually mine sits around 30-45c depending on system load and ambient room temp
How long have you had it just curious
Cuz after about 2 months mine now sits at 45ยฐC at idle
but the drive itself has barely anything to do with that
I guess it could be the fact it got bent more and more over time
Because I think the thermal pad was not fully touching it in first place
well mine will have the gpu blow hot air direct at it, not sure if better or worse than between gpu and cpu cooler
motherboard manufacturers sure love slapping a bunch of shrouds and cover bs on their stuff these days
but a 7-segment display? nah too expensive for our margins m8
that budget went to putting our logo in 18 places where you cannot see it when screwed in anyways
frogot which is the cheapest to get a post code display and P/R buttons on the mobo
think B650 Taichi
asrock AM5 mobo only goes up to 600, or 500
while all 3 other brands easily go 1000+
high end builds just get the X670E Taichi and call it
The Catesby Tunnel, in the UK, is an old Victorian railway tunnel that has a new use: a secretive car testing facility, like a wind tunnel but in reverse. So rather than just show it to the world, I thought I'd answer a question: if you stick a camera on the outside of your car, how much does the drag cost you? โ The tunnel: https://catesbytunne...
I love how quite and smooth electric cars are... I really want to drive one some day
Debaur made a video testing m.2 heatsinks and the big plate had the almost the best thermal performance overall.
My motherboard doesn't have covers on the m.2 slots...
And one is basically right beside the GPU
thats perfectly fine
thats perfectly fine
Yeah xd
Hhhmmm
Ireland has a fuck ton of potholes everywhere
Even on national roads
The ones that are meant to be maintained by the county councils
@marsh glade what do u think of the potholes in the netherlands
he sees it when he wakes up
car rental depends on potholes? tf kinda determination is that
I doubt it actually is
Isn't it like a couple hundred per day go rent a car?
Never done it before
time to google what it costs in your plcae then
would guess like 50-100 for a day
greatly depends on what car ofc
also depends on if you do a big company or some personal renting thing where people lease their cars like airbnbs
but you can get a tesla for a day for less than 100 if you are looking for it
I haven't cycled in years
But if it's a bike with wider tires I'm pretty confident on one
The bikes with really skinny tires
.... I'm scared to turn anyway fast on those
Hmmm
Aha

Oh ...
And if there is an accident
I assume it's you covering all the costs and repair?
Credit card insurance???
yeah its why I use my credit card for travel and stuff, covers travel insurances in certain things
@zealous cloakjust use revolut innit
0 fees
I already have paypal so I dont really see a point in using revolut
beautiful car too
it's the new idrive 8 iirc
my g80 m3 had idrive 7
was lucky to get it a couple months before they switched
my cousin got a g80 m3 a month after and they delayed it so he got idrive 8 in his
and now that i look at it
i kinda prefer the newer screen
a passat would do you well then
i dont even use the infotainment on my m5
i use the dash for maps
and hud for speedo
indeed
i had a mk3 vr6 at 18
was a beautiful car especially given how old it was
i use carplay just for the music and maps
otherwise yeah its mostly useless
well i use it to beat traffic
and see if i wanna take b roads for more fun and still get to work in time
currently looking for a kit to make it look more aggressive
im gonna get a defuser and tips but im torn on whether i want a large lip spoiler or small
It's a BMW
People will still hate you on the road no matter what you make the car look like
You are a bmw driver who knows how to drive?
yes
Rare
why would i not know how to drive
It's just a stereotype about BMW drivers xd
i know but thats mostly american
Yes
i try follow limits because of cameras
I hate when I'm the only one on the road for ages and I have to drive through a 50km/h zone
-.-
on my road specificslly there are none so i blast it until im close to the school zone then ill do like 15
but there's quite a few cameras near the main road
its funny tho because a load of them have never worked
Hmmm
If there is a speed camera on the road
Usually other drivers will flash their headlights at you to let you know it's coming up
yeah thats not something im comfortable with
some people are just not aware of their surroundings
and will walk into the road
There is one part of the motorway in Sydney where it goes: 80>40>80 in across a 100m stretch. It's a leftover from when they had tolling booths, but they keep the old speedlimit in place because that area is fitted with speed cameras. That I am certain of
That's happened me today .-.
Driving through a town
A bunch of teen girls just walk onto the road infront of me WITHOUT LOOKING -.-
Then when I slammed on the brakes to stop
They turned to look and flipped me off
this was at the crack of dawn with like no cars
yeah thats the worst part, im always cautious in cities
Yeah
Me too
Wish we had an autobahn or whatever the Germans call their need for speed highway
i havent had any points on my license since i got it and i try keep it that way
But the brakes on this car aren't as fast at slowing down the car compared to my previous one
So I'm not used to the longer distance I need to slow down
so ill only ever speed if i am sure i wont get caught
i was pulled over once because they thought my car was stolen
Need for speed highway :') that's a much better name than Autobahn
How do you prove it's not stolen?
Login to your car insurance account?
Oooh.......
RIP
no i had the V5 and registration with me
O
How tf is that something they just can check on the fly?
they were super nice tbf
ANPR
they can pull up every little detail in seconds
Oh
just by scanning a plate
I see....
My insurance company was able to tell me more about the car than my dealership was just from me telling them the license plate number
Nah I wish we would finally get rid of that and out limits on it
yeah that wouldnt fly here lol
if you dont report it to your insurance or dvla theyll cancel your insurance
... Bruh
some cops will let you go if you say you forgot or whatnot
but if they're a dick then too bad
its why i decided to just ceramic and ppf my car
Wat
Oh wtf
yeah my vr6 had a yellow hood
but the rest was factory pearlescent purple black
still wish vw had that as a colour
was so cool
My new car is a dark grey and I'm happy with that
I hated the glossy bright ass red my previous car was

GN's supercuts are always funny to watch
but decided against it cause i kinda liked the black
A matte black would be so nice
my evo was wrapped black tho
I'd love to have a white car but the place I live
It would be a nightmare to keep clean
same here but i still get pollen all over mine
I've had my car for almost 2 months now
And I've washed bird shit off it multiple times already
Fucking birds building nests on the damn house
It's really too bad AMD is letting Nvidia get away with this. We really though they would try to at least undercut Nvidia
AMD have been undercutting nvidia the whole time, it has never worked
barely
covid era kinda weird though
5700xt was cheaper than the 2070 super at least
and same/slightly slower
not better
Such is the state of the duopoly.
One company has a proprietary tax, where you pay extra for features you don't want or need
The other is slightly cheaper, but is taxing you on the "We aren't the other douchebag" tax
Reminder AMD mocked Nvidia for having 8GB cards before releasing an 8GB card.
AMD def gunna leverage their AI stuff in the future, just dunno if it can match nvidia
nah I just meant the gaming features
kek no way anything is catching cuda

why tho
https://www.tomshardware.com/news/asus-rog-matrix-rtx-4090-gpu Because it's "ultra-premium"
at least the tubes do not jut out so that you can't close your side panel
Not a lot of people can fit 2x360mm in their cases (CPU & GPU)
this would be the perfect case
The CTE Form Factor Designed by Thermaltake, stands for Centralized Thermal Efficiency, and is focused around providing high level thermal performance to critical components. The design utilizes a 90-degree rotation of the motherboard providing more efficient airflow pathways. Since the CPU location has been moved much closer to the front panel ...
AIO both mounted on the sides and heat go out the top
Yeah ๐๐
Phanteks NV7 would be ok too if one could change out the front glass (NV5 is apparently coming too no ETA)
The O11 Evo has the front mesh kit but can't mount 2x360mm rads on the front and side i think
both as intake?
Yeah also "Extra-thick" radiator on the "Matrix" with it being a "Collectors edition" and launching Q3 close to $2000 ๐ค

Lol I learned about this video from a reddit post
A lot of people were butthurt that Steve made this video
"Steves ego is massive" "awful presentation" "Imagine hating on apple"
Razer 5G actually refers to the optical sensor. As in 5th generation
Barely has any dislikes on youtube, over 100k views in 7 hours, looks like a good watch
I too fail to see how this would help. Why 5Ghz?
Polling rate might have been an incorrect word
monitors just exploded in price its insane. i wanted to get a ULMB 2 monitor but that thing is 1600โฌ in germany thats absolutely nuts imo
Wireless 5GHz is less crowded (As 2.4GHz is taken up by Wifi, BT, a million other proprietary standards, and literal kitchen microwaves), has more available channels, and since the wavelength is shorter it has a higher theoretical bandwidth. So a lot of wireless gaming mice choose 5GHz over 2.4GHz
News to me - The downside of 5Ghz is that is also had much, much worse coverage and range. ๐
If you're having issues with your 2.4ghz mouse cutting out due, this ain't going to help.
You don't really need that range with gaming mouses
Like, in what scenario would you bring your gaming mouse to another room, away from your main PC?
Considering how many times I've had to move around my USB dongles for wireless mice and headsets, I disagree ๐
The PC CASE in particular is a great point of interference.
thats cursed
We knew, thanks Walter White
we need to cook
I'll have scrambled eggs, thank you
As long as it ain't raw
why is markiplier wearing a hazard suit
2.4ghz has longer range, but more frequent dropouts due to constant interference. It's one of the major reasons it is a lot slower and has larger latency.
They didn't introduce 5ghz wifi standard for shits and giggles. It's practically required in metropolitan offices due to the sheer number of 2.4ghz devices trying to talk over each other. And that's before you factor in the kitchen microwave malfunctioned again and jammed the network
You say that - And yet I've had to move the USB dongle on any 2.4ghz device I've ever owned to the front ports, to avoid issues.
And I live somewhat rurally. 2.4ghz is not polluted here.
I don't see how 5ghz with its shorter range helps there. God knows my Wifi's not great at 5Ghz range wise ๐
Yes - And as I've explained my issues don't seem to stem from band pollution ๐
Yes, but I am explaining why it's a requirement for 80% of the population. For most living in even a moderately dense neighbourhood 2.4ghz would be terrible for a gaming mouse.
Also can't you situate the router closer, or is it stuck
I could - But it's already central. It's a question of range of a single device at the end of day. Anyway just me rambling I suppose - I don't have any 5ghz devices that are USB to test and compare with. My setup just doesn't seem to like having USB dongles in the back without having interference ๐
Hence my hesitation as to why you'd make that worse by going 5ghz
are they even allowed to use 5ghz? i thought that was only allowed for wifi
2.4ghz is a free for all basically
Well a mouse is meant to be only 2m away from the reciever at most so yeah range doesn't matter.
For wifi longer range is actually detrimental at a certain point due it leaking across to neighbouring networks and interfering.
Routers have to actually stop transmitting when interference occurs as recievers can't hear anything anyway. So every router in range needs to take turns if the 3-4 channels are already all claimed
5ghz is also free for all, but more expensive
As in the tech for 5ghz costs more power and money
2.4ghz being free to access means that a lot of devices don't have to worry about preventing noise in the band, that is to say if they produce 2.4ghz as wasted energy they are legal provided they don't literally microwave the population to death.
Irc anything using the 2.4ghz band is limited to 5 watts
Hahahahaha just got around to it, holy shit jensen was on something else
No this is worse
Like I hope this was not practiced or else I am worried for his mental of the next keynote is also such a mess
I physically cringed when he pulled his whoosh sound effects
the heck is this guy on
every "joke" he's trying to pull falls flat, dead silence
god this is tough to sit through
Itโs the first live keynote since a while so Iโm willing to forget it if the next one is normal again but man this oneโs a struggle
you thought our prices were cringy, well watch this

Yeah but there seem to be a few deals already on monitors like the Samsung G8 OLED it is priced at 1149โฌ here now & the original price was 1499โฌ
yea because of the burn in issues i would guess
Koreans approve of the Microsoft acquisition
Lol we're gonna have a case how Sony bought out the UK agency to deny it
They are the only ones not allowing it go through
US also wants to stop it but need to go through a judge
But cloud gaming!
Destroy clouds, sunshine all day every day
And night for that matter
The Alienware OLED monitor (AW3423DW) is the same panel supplied by samsung. Identical in measurements by rtings
$100 cheaper.
It's priced at 1100โฌ here so between the DW/DWF and G8 it's just whatever feature is more interesting and that 50โฌ is whatever
It's a bit disappointing there's no options for monitors with high contrast and brightness.
The best display I could find under $4000 is the 34M2C7600MV, but still falls quite a bit short even compared to the built-in display on macbooks.
I've had one for a year
Graet monitor
the DW, that is
Great*
It's priced at 1200โฌ~ here
That's pretty decent isn't it? If you have 9 hours of SOT?
Not 2 hours of screen use!
How long have you been using it?
This phone?
You said 2 hours you used 22%. How much of that is actually using the phone?
Oh, only the last 20 minutes ive been using it, before was just checking my messages and putting it in my pocket.
This phone used 15-20% idle when asleep too!
Weird. That phone should have pretty good idle life, about 3%/hr drain on a new unit.
7a has known issues with battery life just nobody really knows whatโs causing it yet because itโs not happening for everyone
Ye and it's driving me through the roof
This phone is becoming less reliable than my last which is messed up
Could you run htop and check what's using CPU (during idle).
I can't do that
From an ADB terminal, attach the device and run adb shell top
Documentation is here https://developer.android.com/tools/adb
Luxury? XD
I paid for a phone and the battery is bad ATM, ain't no luxury issues.
My budget phone was having less problems
I had a few phones from Samsung and Xiaomi but they've always had very limited ability for users to manage background processes. After a few months of use the idle processor usage became high enough to drain the battery in less than a day.
I eventually gave up and just bought iPhones
My S21 5G drains about 0.4%/h idle
I would just wait and see if google or someone finds the issue and release a fix for it
My S7 and S9 drained about 5%/hr idle.
Then I lose the ability to return :/ if it genuinely doesn't get fixed for months I'd be annoyed
Yes, the S7 on the version of android Tmobile shipped with kept the LTE radio at max power even when connected to WLAN if the LTE signal is weak.
My M9T idles at fuck all overnight and even when I ran YouTube music on both background it used 5% less in an hour.
Same apps and both running a sim
Not the best test Ik!
This the 7a?
I mean can still wait for return window and then decide, also Iโm pretty sure that should qualify as broken enough to send back under warranty
No, M9T
He's kinda right
There are people just making plain old websites nowadays just with AI and no experience in coding
But you aren't making anything worthwhile
No longer will programmers need to write lines of code, only for it to display the dreaded โfail to compileโ because of a missing semicolon.
bruh if your IDE doesnt tell you about this.... youre doing smth wrong
also the code ive seen from ai was usually ok-ish at best
I've been trying to get my hands on a Nvidia H100. I've asked several people at Amazon Pasadena but no one had any units they could lend me ;-;
I might just end up buying one
Some IDEs are actually horrible at displaying error codes btw
There is always some kind of typo somewhere, and the IDE just shits its pants and gives you a general error leaving me to guess, sometimes for hours, where the hell did it go wrong
what shit IDE are u using lol
Nowadays I use Code, VS and whatever Jetbrains have
all of those can tell you exactly where the error is
for code is mainly depends on the competence of whoever wrote your language addon
Code also requires a fair bit of editing the linter configuration to work with a lot of packages (like torch, unreal, etc...)
but if VS (after 2005) and jetbrains cant tell you where exactly their lexer expected a ; then smth else is wrong like the lexer being fucked
Ehh not even, most like unity unreal and co have a plug-in that takes care of it, either first or third party
sometimes still.. missing a ) or } can make it difficult
Iirc if you have a block of code under a cycle of sorts, it'll just mark the end of the cycle and leave you guessing where in anywhere up to hundreds of lines is the problem
ASUS ROG Ally gets new firmware and significant boost for low-power gaming Dave2D was among the first reviewers to lay hands on the ROG Ally consoles. My main complaint with code is that microsoft's cpptools addons could not handle recursive directories.
id really love to see that to learn about it
Kek so true
eg if you had a directory structure where a sub directory linked to its parent directory.
Cpptools would get stuck searching recursively through that loop and fail to provide any linting information.
and thats why im buying samsung ๐
The battery life looks pretty good from the tests online and the specs you just posted.
I would recommend attaching the phone to a debug bridge and seeing what's draining your battery.
If you have poor signal on LTE/5G and WLAN, it will drive up power consumption by a lot.
jesus.... i get .4-.7% screen off
But again I never had this issue with my last phone
Your last phone may have been configured to keep the radio at low power on idle.
Google kinda sucks at making phones if it wasn't obvious from the last 6 pixels
6a got insanely good raving reviews though
I don't agree with this at all
Then again, I haven't bought a flagship phone in over a decade
But I've had the Pixel 3 and currently the 6a, before that the Nexus 5. Perfectly good phones, all three
Part of me wants to install grapheneos but the Dev is a nutjob
Still my favorite phone of all time was the Droid R2D2

discord doesnt drain shit for me when i dont actively use it
why tf clock running so much?
Alarm?
i have an alarm i dont even see clock on my battery usage
same
also same
not same
i use fuck tons of widgets but they dont use battery when the phone is screen off aka idle
id check the battery usage after you wake up
cause it means u had hrs of idle
and it shouldnt be polluted by apps you used like yt etc
Discord has very low usage for me even when open.

htop on android?
sounds like something is burning cpu time like crazy

I am having a hard time comprehending the rocket science behind... fans
Like, is there really a lot of science behind fans?
If not why wouldnโt someone just make a better one every year
there's a lot of science involved in finding good ratios between airflow and noise
Airflow, noise, form changing on heat, stability on high rpm, pressure differences on closed cases vs mesh vs open
yeah a fan efficient at lower rpms can become a lot less so at higher ones
etc etc
like aerodynamics are one of the most complex fields in science there is
Imagine working in Noctua when you could just work in Boeing or Lockheed Martin
I highly highly doubt these things are THAT complicated though, it's just a spinny fin thing
If itโs not that hard why are we not getting more than like 2 coolers in the last years that are better than before
waits for Vex to start his own fan company and crush the competition ez
Noctua also are more careful with their releases
They probably have one of the lowest rma rates in the industry

Over the past decade, more than 400 million gaming controllers, valued at over $20 billion, have been sold, each featuring joysticks that are commonly plagued by potentiometer issues. Numerous class-action lawsuits have been filed in an attempt to tackle this problem. If the world won't change, we'll just have to change the world ourselves. So, ...

should have really invested in 2019
So they copied Intel uArch
And just slapped a far worse node on it
Is that even possible? Aren't these architectures designed for a specific node
I've had some Noctua fans for 12 years now, roughly
Used them every day of those 12 years
Still quiet, still providing great air flow

@vagrant pagoda
10nm also looked good at first tapeout
They basically do
There is more than one factory
But a lot of them are from the same one
Doesn't mean they have 100% the same surface etc
I guess they are future proofing for the 5090
Also don't laugh it's a workstation psu so certain workloads can run those kind of gpu setups
Not that most of us really need to.
Also something americans tend to forget in europe we also have the option for 3 phase power.
I think our standard plugs maxes out at 2400w or something like that
European standard plug at 3600w or so, but there are some cases where you may want more as well. Such as for a cooking top or electric car.
In those cases you may want 3 phase power, Just looking around you can buy a cooking top that maxes out at a 10kw
oh yeah my bad its 3680w
I've had safes pop for less tho
stoves typically run on 400v
Most devices you readily plug in actually don't go much over 3kw here either
because A it makes little sense and B same as yours
Something like an oven and such can have higher amperage connectors if needed
The difference is that in the us 3 phase power is 208v potential between 2 phases not 380
And the individual line potential you can get shocked by is still only 120 not 240
That means that 2 phase equipment is generally within safe limits regardless of which 2 phase you use
I will grant you european mains is definitely more dangerous
10A fuses are pretty common here on the regular 230v outlets which gives you around 2300w before it pops
Only in older homes here in the netherlands
the 400v 3 phase can theorerically go up to 4000w
that's what stoves commonly use, or industrial machinery
Yeah and we use 20a on all our outlets, basically matching the total power just being less efficient
But rule of thumb 16a max on a 20a breaker obviously
We do have 30a breakers for 20a outlets
I think up to 16 is more common in modern houses, I live in a building from the 50s and the landlord has 10A fuses installed on each rail as standard
And we even have the provisions for 50a 120v plugs but that's just beyond dumb
Tho I have one lol
I have 15a 220 outlet in my garage lol
Its using an adapter to plug into a 50a 240v outlet and then running just 1 of those phases along a power cable to my car charger
our old company premises had six 400v 3 phase outputs
I wish I had three days
Phase*
The irony of me living on a street that has a high voltage feeder on top of the poles but them not allowing me to have three phase
Because there's no step down
And there's no way they're going to install a substation in my yard just so I can run a little more torque out of my vfds for the lathe
Our home just has a lot of 20 amp fuses installed right now, but there is always the option to change things around for if we get an electric stove
16 groups atm
My house I have set up with 220 running to each room and then just run a one phase to every other outlet
thats slightly more scary than standard household
That does not seem like the most sane setup
All it is is saving one wire
If you run a tandem breaker you can share a neutral
So I just have 12/3 Romex running
The first outlet I used the black for the hot and the second outlet I use the red
And then just connect through the one that's not used
And I just installed the surface mount wagos in the back
4 3 spot wagos
And in my panel I used used dual tandon 20+20 breakers

Oled is sounding so nice that it's tempting me to upgrade from my g9 neo
if they do 3 year warranty like alienware it should be fine
It's a hassle to ship it in
But yeah that's a saving grace
Just wonder about the 4 years
I want my monitor to last at least 5
Time to save up
msrp guess is 1,999
thats much lower than I expected
that's my guess
ah
what do you think?
That's an aspect ratio for insane people
wtf why did that show up
like 2.5ish
Sticker suggestions
maybe a bit more
well I guess it depends on how well it does at 240hz
dunno if they're comparable
I guess they arent showing g sync panel so maybe not that expensive if they dont add that
yeah on second thought 2k might fit
if theres no g sync module though I worry for its performance
LG C1 had strobing and it looked great
only issues is that it can accerlate the oled burn out
I'm gonna call it pulse refresh
That's what plasma screens do
Motion handling is excellent on my 2010
Black frame insertion makes burn out faster?
Ah mightโve misheard just remembered at the start he said all screens coming this year
correct
higher brightness = exponentially faster burnin
240hz is just not enough ๐ฆ
gimme moar
interesting
but only because you set it to higher brightness to compensate right? if I'd turn off bfi and keep it that should be worse in theroy right?
perceived vs actual
most bfi solutions are brightness compensated
yeah I know but I mean bfi itself isnt causing more burnin just what is used in conjunction with it?
๐คท bfi as a setting on an oled tv or monitor simply would
if you decreased the perceived brightness to compensate you are correct
reminds me how people saw this and forgot about duty cycle or thought this was about effective brightness

You want more, I will give you more: Micro OLED specs for Apple's AR/VR headset:
1.41" in diagonal
4000 PPI
5000 nits of brightness
644
also gotta remember vr optics are insanely inefficient
quest pro is 10% of the display emissions make it to the eye
my comment was thats lower than I expected lol
since the emagin spec from a few years ago was 10k nits peak lol
well no
though I guess 10k is >5k technically
the pixel density massively decreases the brightness
those 10knit displays were alot lower ppi...
oh true didnt check what ppi they were
if they can do 5knit 3840 square 1.4 inch displays that would be pretty awesome for a display
wouldnt be fantastic for vr since youd be looking at 50 nits perceived at 100hz 1ms and thats for a relatively thick vr headset
the slimmer it is the less efficient it is
tho you could make it index thick and have it be alot brighter
no chance apple would tho
yeah I wonder if that will make apple stock plummet or if they just say AI will make the apple-verse and turn into a 3T$ company lol
meh, i dont think anyone cares about the apple vr headset yet
will be a true showing of what tims vision will do for the company
its probably priced in like airpower is
you say that but google has their search done already
I'm interested if apple will make their own AI hardware or buy
both
will they forgive nvidia and buy H100s or go AMD
lol
nvidia or amd?
other
ah
https://machinelearning.apple.com/
google search a few names from here if you want
if anything they would just gobble up a tenstorrent or similar or their engineers not really hardware from the big ones directly
nah they already have their own stuff deployed
and its slow but its tiny and efficient
yeah if they would want a new market to add to their offerings that they cant fulfill with their own tech though, that would be the way over using amd/intel/nvidia
yea
in house first choice, if not possible it would be either getting them inhouse or just turning a company into an apple company xD
buy tenstorent and replace the cores they have with the existing cores and taking advantage of tenstorent's networking and large dedicated soc program
for example yeah
on the other hand nuvia (now QC) was made from the existing apple M1 dev team becuase apple did not want to go into servers so idk what they are doing
yeah but if they could have scaled the m series and made use of the fact they get the latest tsmc node before anyone else, they could've landed big
not to server grade though
M2 ultra is damn near...
Apple just could not care less
Sorry m1 ultra for now
You could make an hci server using 20+ m1 ultras in a single standard size GPU server chassis
Looking at 400 CPU cores, 160k shaders, 3.2kw
H100 system is 120 CPU cores 116k shaders at what? 6kw?
idk if it would scale that well thought because then you need to look at interconnects and memory bandwith etc.
Obviously
As I said just for hci
no clue if that wouldnt just require more energy to keep that fed or if you can scale it like that
And that would give you less than a single h100 worth of ai ops rofl
Each M1 ultra is 22 tops ai (apparently)
An h100 can do 2500 tops ai
an m series for that target would likely have different cores or at least extra ALUs to increase that specifically though
Apple's GPUs are much less power efficient than Nvidias. They're generally uncompetitive for AI applications.
even accounting for MPS
Yes
And apple probably could change that if they cared
I dont think its quite fair to compare them when they are build for vastly different power targets and all
dont think h100 could be scaled down as well to a tablet chip lol
Eh
M1 ultra still gets slaughtered by Nvidia drive systems
I'm sure Apple has the resources to be competitive but so does 20 other companies (amazon, google, ibm, etc...)
it doesnt really mean anything to say a company "could" do something when they have no intentions of doing so
none of those have the hardware node advantage that apple has though
Apple doesn't manufacture any nodes, its all outsourced fabrication
yes but they basically fund TSMCs research and get the new nodes for themselves for a while
Orin is 250tops at half the power of M1 ultras 22tops
then again I also partly want them to compete to see it fail and finally have people shut up about ARM being inherently above x86 and others
They fund TSMC research in the same sense that Nvidia does.
They're a customer that buys their products.
They do not give them free money. All transactions between Apple and TSMC are contracts to fill chip manufacturing orders.
the last years apple basically had exclusive usage of the bleeding edge nodes of tsmc while nvidia was dual dipping tsmc and samsung for better deals, they aint getting the priority over apple unless they invest a lot more
Well priority doesn't really matter much
TSMC does not have supply issues. Nvidia typically buys older nodes to reduce costs.
Nvidia is winning by insane margins even on aSS node
Tsmc has limited supply
oh yeah nvidia is making bank, but for having the hardware node advantage when it comes to the idea of apple making ai hardware, they would have an edge there
Samsung had a much harder time with large die volume production but Nvidia still contracted with them instead of TSMC, which had sufficient supply to fill much more 3000 series Nvidia GPUs than samsung did.
Mainly because TSMC 7nm was about double the cost of Samsung 8n (for the same transistor count).
Wasn't double per transistor lol
It was double per mm2
Nearly triple per transistor
also samsung has no problem making huge volumes
they just have a slightly smaller mask size than tsmc
Nvidia's use of older nodes are not due to supply issues. The nodes they chose for the Ampere series GPUs had substantially more supply issues than the nodes Apple used. They require massive single chip dies for their GPUs and their target markets value cost efficiency much more than Apple's market. (The most sold Nvidia GPUs have always been the xx60, low cost models).
they also dont have the IP to do the fancier packaging
It's not about capability, it's about whether they are doing it or not. Samsung did not set up large volume production for Nvidia's modified 8nll node.
supply is a function of units sold and price not just units sold
Every large company is "capable" of doing pretty much whatever they want. But they'll realistically only do what will maximize their profits.
thats actually very untrue
ASML is physically unable to accelerate their machine making any faster
and every single unit they produce is sold until 2025
every unit they have already made for euv is still running at as high of a capacity as the facility it is installed in can handle
all of the companies already bought what they could from asml, and now thats it
what they have on the way is what they will have, no amount of extra money will change any of their expected production rates until after next year
but this is what tsmc is doing
they were out of production capacity, so they increased the prices to match
samsung's node uses a different type of machine, and had insanely higher production volume available, remember while tsmc makes more money than samsung foundry per year, samsung makes more wafers...
Doubled tho
Imo that's 116 layers effectively
Aren't Nvidia chips also a lot bigger then Apple chips? That not only would mean more chips per wafer, but also a smaller percentage of defective chips
Eh?
Depends which chip
We are assuming like for like which are slightly smaller on Nvidias side
If apple made a server chip, it would be huge
That's not true
Apple makes chips from the .2 watt range to the 200w range
Nvidia makes chips from the 5w range to the 700w range
Technically apple makes a larger range of chips by that spec
I mean if Nvidia needs big chips then it's going to need a node that has the yield for the market.
anyone know if the colours are washed out on the xl2546k or if they are clear on my msi 165hz va panel they are kinda washed out and sometimes in val i cant make out the background from a person ๐ฆ

idrc about that aspect of it some of the colours blur together on my monitor and its hard to play sometimes if its a bright wall or a yellow wall bcz i play on yellow outlines ๐ฆ
yeah its like 1900 aud for the asus and 1800 for the lg i am not paying for allat

a 4090 cant run 4k240 either
you dont need high fps anywhere
but its always nice

then you won't get an 4k monitor xD
if ur pro player then u need the lower latency
nope
that's why the 2k 480hz oled is very interesting if true
