and tablet

astral haven
#

they probably use thicker glass for the pad than the phone stuffs

wheat plume
#

yeh

tribal dirge
#

Indeed, they also make most lab glassware

#

Pulsar markets their superglide products very well. Lol

#

The branding is very similar to that of Supreme.

wheat plume
#

Hence the similar design too...

tribal dirge
#

Superglide branding just hits different

wheat plume
#

the fact Tiny11 doesnt have its own website is a bit strange

shadow minnow
#

Phone just automatically correctly identified the exact plant and that it’s there, not bad considering it’s smol

cursive summit
#

A feature nobody remembers exist

#

Yet is incredibly capable

wheat plume
#

I use Lens a lot <3

#

its fantastic

shadow minnow
#

This is from apple in built. But yeah both are cool, in general impressive

cursive summit
#

For the shits and giggles a few days back I pointed the camera at a japanese text

#

I had no idea what it meant

#

Lens instantly translated it into english

#

A plant you don't know the name of? Lens it

shadow minnow
#

But google lense is great for also translations and document scanning

#

Let me try if google lense can recognize this one

wheat plume
#

Windows, plz make everything dark theme ;-;

cursive summit
wheat plume

Transfer popup, properties dialog, control panel

shadow minnow
#

Google sucks so much at some things chatgpt is easier to get an answer from too. Because google just won’t show me what I want

crimson wigeon
#

Yeah why they made Bard. Too bad I can only use it if I turn on the VPN dogekek

wheat plume
#

huh?

#

you need VPN for Bard?

crimson wigeon
#

Cause it's only available in like UK and US for some reason

wheat plume
#

oohh

astral haven
crimson wigeon
#

Ah I love that response.. bruh you're AI just hallucinate something and entertain us

astral haven
#

halucinations aplenty

#

exactly zero 100g switches

crimson wigeon
#

At least it tries

#

Also #FreeSydney

wheat plume
#

damn it, I think looking at other mice made my mouse jealous, it started to double click

astral haven
#

dont do it...

wheat plume
#

huh?

#

ive had this mouse for like 9 years, LOL im surprised it is still working tbh

astral haven
#

do not impulse buy a mouse

wheat plume
#

im not...its 100 euro ;-;

crimson wigeon
#

Do impulse buy a mouse

wheat plume
#

not until this one breaks

#

I need a mouse that can store settings onboard

#

so that I dont need to reinstall and re-setup the buttons and speed everytime I plug it into something new or reinstall the OS

astral haven
#

zaunkoenig lmao

#

fr tho most mice that arent razer do that

wheat plume
astral haven
#

its got a scroll wheel too lel

#

but you literally cant buy it any more its oos permanently until they release a new model

wheat plume
#

oohh

#

id not get it anyway

#

ugly

astral haven
#

what?

#

its also 300 euro lel

wheat plume
#

nah m8

#

dont like it xd

astral haven
#

thats the oldest model

I love how Schiit gets censored in YT auto-subtitles

wheat plume
#

Amp/DACs

astral haven
#

just get cx31993

wheat plume
#

Before I search it up, lemme guess the price is like 200?

astral haven
#

remove a zero

wheat plume
#

oohh

#

Chifi
LOL

#

oh, its a dongle I see!

astral haven
#

i mean that is in fact a common term

#

yep

frozen ingot
#

I didn't know sportbikes came with surround sound and costed $150-200

wheat plume
#

bike with the same name? XD

astral haven
#

theres also the cs43131 for a few bucks more

ashen spindle
#

may I introduce the savior that is RF sennheiser headsets that just make it so you dont need to dongle up mm

astral haven
#

its also given to the non cheap stuff lmao

#

no matter what you do, a full solid state unit will be more reliable than one with pots...

#

but if you do insist on non chinese, the creative sxfi amp is probably the best bet

wheat plume
#

The Schiit Fulla 3 seems decent and its plug and play

#

Fulla Schiit :') I cant with the name

astral haven
#

pls dont

gusty kiln
#

do you need the mic input?

wheat plume
#

my mic is part of my headset

astral haven
#

even if you do, get the cs cx or sxfi, they support mics

wheat plume
#

currently using USB connection

astral haven
#

well the cx and sxfi do

gusty kiln
wheat plume
#

I can also use the headphones over 3.5mm jack if I want to

gusty kiln
#

well just asking, seem nothing wrong with your current set up

wheat plume
#

the volume is not very , strong, idk the right word

gusty kiln
#

what headset?

wheat plume
#

the volume seems very dull and like its not able to be as loud as it should

#

HyperX Clouds 2

astral haven
#

wireless?

wheat plume
#

no

#

I use USB connection

gusty kiln
#

have you tried the rear I/O on your mobo?

astral haven
#

using what adapter?

wheat plume
gusty kiln
#

wat

astral haven
#

dont manually install drivers, it should work fine from windows update, mobo manufacturers often mess them up

wheat plume
#

and its not a combo jack, the front IO jack is combo though

astral haven
#

the fulla 3 isnt a combo either lel

wheat plume
#

hhm

gusty kiln
#

no amp dac uses a combo

#

at least desktop ones

astral haven
wheat plume
#

a lot of "gaming" ones do

gusty kiln
#

desktop ones?

wheat plume
#

yep

astral haven
#

only the "audiophile" brands dont

gusty kiln
#

well do you have a more powerful source to compare?

wheat plume
#

the power output from the headphone jack on my laptop makes the sound feel more "powerful" or fuller

#

idk the word

#

like its not struggling to reach the volume I set

astral haven
#

get a cx31993 or creative sxfi amp

#

more than that is just for aesthetics

gusty kiln
#

X4 if you want dat knob

wheat plume
#

i do like knobs

gusty kiln
#

one of the few top facing knob, like the fulla

wheat plume
#

man, that is a big knob

#

how does it connect to the computer?

gusty kiln
#

usb or optical

astral haven
#

usb or optical

wheat plume
#

ah, ook

gusty kiln
wheat plume
#

I get that feeling using wireless earbuds on any device

#

got to have the volume slider much higher on my phone for wireless earbuds VS wired earphones

astral haven
#

volume slider is definetly placebo tho

wheat plume
#

nanni?

gusty kiln
#

volume slider with wireless control the amp on the wireless buds, not from the phone

wheat plume
#

hhhmm

gusty kiln
#

or just drop a grand on a new headphone and source for that true audiophile experience

wheat plume
#

Yeah, got to buy 3 grand headphones, 2 grand DAC/AMP

gusty kiln
#

exactly

wheat plume
#

and even then, im not a true audiophile cause its not expensive enough shit

gusty kiln
#

I have a fiio e10k laying around, only worth about 20-30 nowadays

#

the Arc Mini looked cool

#

shame barely anyone reviewed it

#

it also has a top knob

#

lol which?

#

ooo nice

#

you got the element?

#

damnn

#

500 dac amp

#

I'm using a Fiio K7 at my desk

wheat plume
#

the issue I had yesterday is showing up in Windows Defender LOL

gusty kiln
#

which schiit? Hel 2?

#

ah

#

yeah it's really nice looking

#

which version 2 or 3?

#

think the 3 has an oled screen

ashen spindle
#

ah nice, userbenchmark has the review text for the x3d out finally

#

was waiting for some reputable summary if its good

halcyon moss
#

🧌

ashen spindle
#

also never knew they directly link to hardwareunboxed in their about page and call them incompetent dogekek

gusty kiln
#

Wonder if userbench is meant to be satire rather than delusional hate

ashen spindle
#

almost think so but doesnt seem like it

gusty kiln
#

At least the data is somewhat usable when comparing products in the same family

#

At 6000 at all or specific configurations?

#

Damn really? Thought 2 dimms at 6000 would be relatively easy

#

Interesting

In this video, Resolve provides an overview of the revolutionary new Audeze Maxwell gaming headset. In this video, he does a deep dive on of all of its functions and features, along with a lengthy discussion on the Maxwell's sound quality for both music and gaming. Check out how this does for audiophiles as well as gamers.

wheat plume

USE FUCKING 3.5MM PLEASE

crisp granite

crisp granite

also they might be held back by 3.5...or their engineers thought so

it's the twist lock that is annoying

reef patrol
tribal dirge
wheat plume
#

what is sidetone?

tribal dirge
#

well my headphones can only take XLR. HAHAHAHA

astral haven
wheat plume
reef patrol
#

The port is recessed into their phones, so part of the actual connector must be 2.5mm and no wider or it won't go in.

astral haven
#

wrong

astral haven
#

its quite significantly more than 2.5mm

reef patrol
#

I assume Sidetone is like for... closed ear headphones? Never saw the point of using it.

tribal dirge
#

and theres 2, one for each driver

astral haven
#

but its still very thin for a cable

Motherduckers.

tribal dirge

Do you not english? That was easy for me to understand 😄

tribal dirge
astral haven

the sennheiser amp at the store disappointed me significantly, i had a btr3 and it sounded alooot better lmao

gusty kiln
#

HDV 820?

wheat plume
#

the material of the earcup really has a big effect on sound?!

gusty kiln
#

yeah

#

definitely

wheat plume
#

how much does it affect it?

gusty kiln
#

pretty significant sometimes

wheat plume
#

oh

astral haven
#

depends on the headphones but most itll change pretty wildly

#

esp closed backs

#

and going from breathable to sealed pads

tribal dirge
wheat plume
#

so, whats better to use? I have fake leather or this sort of fabric-like material

astral haven
#

try em

gusty kiln
astral haven
wheat plume
#

feel bad? its an AMP

gusty kiln
#

if I had fuck you money, I would get a Holo Bliss + Holo May stack

#

just for the style points

wheat plume
astral haven
wheat plume

you spent 2.4 grand on AMP????

gusty kiln
#

lcd5 are 5k

wheat plume

so wouldn't be surprised

tribal dirge
tribal dirge

lmao

wheat plume

o.o

gusty kiln

these two would be stupid money end game for me

wheat plume
#

kitsune.... is it actually themed after Holo from the anime?!

gusty kiln
wheat plume
#

5.5 grand

#

holy shit

gusty kiln
#

only if I win the lottery

wheat plume
#

oh yeah, Moondrop are the weeb brand that have waifus all over their product boxes

gusty kiln
#

Chi-fi is insane atm

#

getting good sound is getting cheaper and cheaper, but high end will always be high end

ashen spindle
wheat plume
#

arent PCIE audio cards fake?

ashen spindle
#

why do you think I call it a scam

wheat plume
#

ah

tribal dirge
wheat plume
#

huh?

reef patrol
astral haven
wheat plume
#

🤔 I see

tribal dirge
astral haven
#

32?

#

weak

gusty kiln
#

I always ignore weird filters

astral haven
#

256 and 1000+ channel ones exist

gusty kiln
#

ifi sells a lot of random filters, but their amp and dac are fine

tribal dirge
astral haven
#

btw there are actual audio switches

ashen spindle
#

I mean there are multiple such scam products on the kitsune site so for me that makes it a scam site that might rebrand good gear as well xd

gusty kiln
#

he's talking about the one where they just use a regular network switch and add stuff to iy

tribal dirge
astral haven
#

for dante and avb you do in fact need qos

#

only some switches support those protocols

frozen ingot
#

switches handling nothing but digital will do nothing to your sound quality

#

unless its actually corrupting the data being transferred in some way, in which case you'd know

old marlin
#

well you could compress digitally

astral haven
#

for dante and avb you need specific support

old marlin
#

but switches don't mess with your packets (typically)

astral haven
#

without explicit supports, it may not get the packet routed fast enough and youll miss a packet

#

https://www.thomannmusic.com/marian_clara_e.htm
when you have a hall large enough to have hundreds of speakers, you are often dealing with many switches chained, and getting the signal through in real time can be a challenge

wheat plume
#

Open back

Planar Magnetic

#

why tho....the leak is real

gusty kiln
#

?

old marlin
#

what

frozen ingot
#

packet loss is def a thing, but audiophiles be pretenting their snake oil switches make the sound "crisper" and "warmer" sounding

old marlin
#

what's the problem with open back planars

frozen ingot
#

or whatever buzzword the marketing pulled out of their asses

astral haven
old marlin
#

actually you very rarely see closed back planars

gusty kiln
#

yeah

calm fiber
#

Yo why does it say I’m on a controller when I open csgo

gusty kiln
#

just move your mouse

astral haven
#

weak, only 8 channels

astral haven
cursive summit
#

Now this is innovation

frozen ingot
#

1024 channels sounds like overkill for even the largest recording studios

#

that's including having like a hundred sends

cursive summit
#

Audio sounds overkill in general

#

Use phone speakers

astral haven
#

where you need 200+ speakers
there are also line array speakers that have 10+ drivers on one unit and you have dozens of them

gusty kiln
#

zen5 train already on the way

astral haven
#

again complete guesswork, specifically mentioned to be just based on zen 3 to zen 4 perf uplift

ashen spindle
gusty kiln
#

opening links are so buggy for me today

ashen spindle
#

bleh regular embed shows gif not image, fxshows image not gif and not gun emoji

#

either way, just speculation

#

they took the spec version their AI chip competes in, took zen4 * 30% and used that as a guess

gusty kiln
#

yeah, it's just funny to see these rumors already just after 7800X3D embargo

ashen spindle
#

yeah its just sites not doing proper journalism to get clicks once again

gusty kiln
#

ok chrome needed to be updated

ashen spindle
#

oh maybe my super resolution works now for videos

wheat plume
#

1 grand instead of 1.5 grand!

gusty kiln
#

the only thing is that everyone else's software seems half baked compared to samsung

wheat plume
#

yeah..

#

true

#

this software isnt that bad though

gusty kiln
#

I'll either get a samsung or pixel foldable

wheat plume
#

is a Pixel one happening?

gusty kiln
#

once my S20 FE starts feeling old

wheat plume
#

does that phone get the 5 years of Android updates Samsung promises since last year?

#

or not cause its more than a year old

gusty kiln
#

I think it might have just missed it

wheat plume
#

Yeah :/

astral haven
#

my s21 just got a pretty major update

gusty kiln
#

yeah starting from S21 should be like 5 years

gusty kiln
wheat plume
#

Nosy

astral haven
#

yah

gusty kiln
#

they have a foldable coming?

astral haven
#

foldable?

gusty kiln
#

yeah we were talking about foldables

astral haven
#

ew

gusty kiln
#

and samsung's software for foldable is the best

astral haven
#

does it let you run dex yet?

#

like the tablets

gusty kiln
#

probably, I don't use dex much

astral haven
#

no i mean on the internal screen

gusty kiln
#

hmmm leme check

astral haven
#

it doesnt run dex exterally which is why i ask

wheat plume
#

Android 13 + HiOS

#

hmm, idk shit about HiOS

#

Carlcare

#

Tecno's Obamacare for phones

gusty kiln
astral haven
#

double ew

wheat plume
#

why you want Dex on touchscreen?

astral haven
#

because its a significantly better tablet experience than stock android?

#

and the point of the foldables is its a smol tablet

wheat plume
#

L O A F

#

I used the camera on my cat, and it looked at the cats face and the ears and it said "FOOD"

#

🤔

#

HHHMMMM

cursive summit
#

Imo, Dex is a bit shite unless you work wuth your tablet

astral haven
#

what?

#

i mean yes
the point is so that you can in fact work on your tablet lmao

cursive summit
#

Fair enough

#

but a bit redundant to most other users

#

A bit clunky

astral haven
#

which is why its off by default?

wheat plume
#

As much as I dislike HP laptops, at least they have cool names for them
DragonFly, Omen, Envy, Pavillion, Spectre

wheat plume
#

LOL

cursive summit
#

I can't be mad at that naming

gusty kiln
#

I thought razer uses years

wheat plume
#

I can, cause you dont know WTF year it was launched in

cursive summit
#

It's just Blade (2021) -> (2022) -> (2023)

wheat plume
#

they dont include the year

#

just the screen size

astral haven
gusty kiln
#

interesting

astral haven
cursive summit
#

I'd be pretty happy if the next Samsung or Apple phone is "Galaxy (2024)" or iPhone 2024

gusty kiln

I want the pink one

gusty kiln

S24 = 2024

wheat plume

so pretty

we need more Pink laptops and tech

astral haven

20 was 20, 21 was 21 22 was 22

Wtf is S11

gusty kiln
#

yeah they made the change since the S20

astral haven
#

theres no s11 btw
went 8 9 10 20

gusty kiln

just like nvidia

except nvidia skipped 800 series

astral haven
#

nope

cursive summit

Wdym there is no S11

well for desktop gpu

they had mobile 800

when it was a rumor

cursive summit
#

Not a rumour if some tech website says it exists dogekek

#

Or the fact there is a fuck ton of cases for it I can order right now from a local retailer?

#

I am dead ass confused, I swear there was an S11

astral haven
#

No sirree

wheat plume

is 11 an unlucky number in Korea or something?

wheat plume
#

cursive summit

astral haven

cursive summit
#

More new Reshade

astral haven
wheat plume
#

idk wtf reshade is

cursive summit
#

You what

#

It's like one of the best things to exist

wheat plume
#

Idont have an AMD GPU...

#

sooo

astral haven
#

Works on anything

wheat plume
#

o

cursive summit
#

I always heavily associated Reshade with AMD, dunno why that correlation is in my brain

ashen spindle
#

Reshade is the mod for adding filters and effects and all to anything

astral haven
cursive summit
wheat plume
ashen spindle
#

its not an nvidia thing either

wheat plume
#

I know

cursive summit
#

Well at least FidelityFX is an AMD thing

astral haven
#

Wait since when?

cursive summit
#

Never quite took a look at how different they are, Fidelity and Reshade

frozen ingot
#

fidelityFX looks like ass

wheat plume
ashen spindle
#

FidelityFX is the entire software suite so I don’t think you are talking about what you think you are

frozen ingot
#

I'm talking about every game that's had the option to use it

astral haven
#

I like it on the steam deck

ashen spindle
#

again, its a software suite unless you can visualize a parallel sort algorithm its not what you think it is

#

yeah

#

FSR is one part, CAS is another, ambient occlusion, SSR etc.

astral haven
#

Probably talking about fsr since it's the only thing that gets used

frozen ingot
#

the upscaling thing

ashen spindle
#

and which version

#

dlss is also shit

#

if we talk about 1.0 dogekek

astral haven
#

You say that but it's so far the only post scaling I've ever seen without sharpening artifacts

ashen spindle
#

I mean I still dont use either dlss or fsr because I dislike the issues I can see so the older version are just worse imo even if they had other strong points

#

I just have a grievance with complaining about the wrong things/inaccurately ¯_(ツ)_/¯

thick elk
#

I wonder how many games end up using amd tech without being public about it.
it mostly being mit licensed may have it fly under the radar

#

I know tressfx made it's way around under the radar

ashen spindle
#

it would be even more used if they could get someone dedicated on their teams for that

#

and kick unitys ass so stuff gets implemted sooner

#

fsr2 still needs manual support or an asset store plugin to work in unity

#

because its just on the roadmap and not in yet

thick elk
#

AMD definitely could use more manpower on the gpu software front

#

Actively working with Godot could be an angle they could take, that engine does seem to slowly be gaining some traction and due to it's open source nature implementing open source amd tech would be easier

ashen spindle
#

lol godot

#

most games in godot will not need or make use of FSR xd

thick elk
#

I am not talking about fsr specifically, but fair enough

ashen spindle
#

the others are relatively easier to add like other effects but fair

thick elk
#

Still it does have potential, at least as a prooving ground

#

and if it pays off it would be advantagious for amd as open source tech can be directly integrated

ashen spindle
#

putting one software guy to add stuff for godot is a waste while unreal./unity are lacking features

thick elk
#

Fair enough, they should definitely push for unreal / unity as well, but I don't know how easy it would be for them to contribute code to it

gusty kiln
#

I can't wait to see how Lumen performs

thick elk
#

other than write integrations and hope they get pushed upstream

ashen spindle
#

unreal is open source, so just make the Pullrequest if they were to not directly work with them worst case

astral haven
#

god i wish they would just make fsr completely postprocessing

thick elk
#

*source available but yea I guess

#

fair enough

ashen spindle
#

didn't say free OSS 😛

ashen spindle
astral haven
#

oss != foss

thick elk
#

Open source as a term has a specific meaning, I don't want to go into that debate right now

astral haven
gusty kiln
#

@astral haven I forgot, did you need an adapter to use the nreal with a laptop?

astral haven
#

not if the laptop has usb c

gusty kiln
#

ok cool

#

thanks

astral haven
#

the adapter is for using it with a dgpu that doesnt have usb c

thick elk
#

Actually messed around with FSR on youtube video's after the nvidia upscaling announcement, actually fsr1 works reasonably well as a video upscaling algorythm.

ashen spindle
#

it works sure but so much less issues if you properly add it in the earlier render stages

thick elk
#

Using FSR upscaling is really only a last resort for me most of the time on my deck.

astral haven
ashen spindle
#

Ubuntu's new installer is written in Flutter, strange choice but ok

Feels kind of weird, but feel like they are focussing getting new business over quality of life improvements that while very important are not make or break things choosing an engine.

#

the shit european cars have to prevent cars from driving without the key

frozen ingot
#

its like the 80s all over again

#

except then cars didn't have enough tech to effectively prevent theft, now they have too much unnescessary tech bloat instead

vagrant pagoda
wheat plume
#

idk the proper name

#

its a thing that prevents the car from moving if the key is not in the ignition

#

its to prevent theft

vagrant pagoda
#

That's what smart key is

wheat plume
#

huh?

frozen ingot
#

90s/00s immobilizers were actually pretty effective at stopping thefts

vagrant pagoda
#

This spams smart key good signals to the ecu, drownig out the smart key bad signal from the real smart key

wheat plume
#

yes thats the word

frozen ingot
#

all this keyless crap just opens up for a bunch of security holes

vagrant pagoda
#

Because Toyota didn't encrypt that part of the can

vagrant pagoda
wheat plume
#

I hate cars that dont need a key to work, it just seems like a security risk waiting to happen

vagrant pagoda
#

You just have to force over the ignition too

wheat plume
#

the fob is nearby? ok! The car can be used fully

#

bet you can easily fake the fob

vagrant pagoda
#

I mean it takes seconds to by pass the key part too

#

Toyotas are one of the easier keys too

#

It's just not news that thieves stole a car with keys

#

Because they have been doing that since they put keys in cars

frozen ingot
#

that wasn't really the case with most immobilizers before all this keyless entry/"smart" nonsense

vagrant pagoda
#

Yeah it is

#

Lol

#

It depends on what brand

#

Brands like bmw take their security seriously

#

Most Asian brands dont

#

There a bunch of factory immobilizer bypasses

#

Toyota being on of them

ashen spindle
#

its news because its a new security that gets bypassed but regular keys are so easy to fake too

#

only difference is you can skip the 2 minute tutorial on how to do it manually

vagrant pagoda
#

Also it's crazy that you get it inside a speaker

#

All the fob relay stuff look sketchy

frozen ingot
#

with the right tech and skills anything is possible, its arguably a lot easier to acquire these things now than it was in the earlier days of immobilizers though so less joyride thefts

latent mural
#

Guys rtx electronics is affidable?

frozen ingot
#

now those kinds of thefts are seeing a resurgence

ashen spindle
vagrant pagoda
#

I mean good designed cars use encrypted can for secure functions

#

And they have a forced timer for re-programming the security keys

ashen spindle
#

yeah its literally the same, insecure wireless is like an old car using a key that is so flat you can turn it with any long metal piece

frozen ingot
#

yeah so we're back to the 80s difficulty of boosting a car mm

vagrant pagoda
#

Or more can networks

#

And isolated ones

ashen spindle
#

I mean you still have cars that dont use basic securities and can be stolen with fake keys

vagrant pagoda
#

The headlight network shouldn't have the key on it

ashen spindle
#

we're just back to using a new toy to steal it

vagrant pagoda
#

And the headlight to ecu relay shouldn't re transmit functions that aren't on it's network

im planning on building my second computer, can u guys help me find ANY problems with this specs right here (or any bottlenecking or if u can pick a part that gives more fps around the same budget)
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D

ashen spindle

Since I don’t care about looks I would go for cheaper case, air cooler for half the price and get a better gpu instead

wispy fractal
#

i heard they fixed thermal issues

#

so i got 1 just in case

ashen spindle
#

thats for intel 12th gen, on amd you dont have thermal issues from mounting frames

#

for cpu coolers either a noctua nhd15 or maybe a dark rock pro 4 or something like that

wispy fractal

its like 60 bucks

pale sigil

ashen spindle

what about a 7900xt

frozen ingot
#

for the majority of users its just a lot more work, money and maintenance for negligible benefits

wispy fractal
ashen spindle

not really, that was a bug on launch with multimonitor

or not

i am a 2 monitor user

ashen spindle

yes since months

wispy fractal

i have to watch reviews tho lol

amds gpus are kinda power hungry and hot

ashen spindle

yup

wispy fractal
#

real

#

i have seen a review of a 6900xt by zwormz in minecfaft

#

that thing hits 1800 fps with medium setting

#

but amd for multiple monitors is not the sweetest spot

ashen spindle
#

every gpu uses more power when using multiple screens

#

nvidia does the same

wispy fractal
#

it consumps like 80% of its power in minecfaft

wispy fractal
#

wait lol

#

thtas the 1080p results

#

even though its on 1080 its still have a gpu bottleneck

frozen ingot
#

heck yeah mine only draws 14W mm

wispy fractal
#

i think i might go with the xtx i think

#

do u think its good for 2 monitors and still doesnt lose performance

ashen spindle
#

oh yeah works too, wasnt sure of budget so I only suggested the XT

wispy fractal
#

ive never tried amd b4

ashen spindle
#

doesn't lose you any performance unless you run a second game on screen 2

wispy fractal
#

its totally fine

#

ig

#

do amd cards have thermal issues though

#

kk

#

im watching reviews of it rn

#

i forgot amds card are terrible at rtx

reef patrol
#

They don't have it.

#

They have RAYTRACING though

wispy fractal
#

lol

ashen spindle
#

I mean, unless we get something like last of us and you have a 3070 with not enough vram and then amd its miles ahead even in raytracing dues to larger vram dogekek

#

but I mean personally I dont think Rt on even a 4090 is good enough to warrant using it so depends on how much you like it

vagrant pagoda
wispy fractal
ashen spindle
#

I mean I dont turn on RTX on my 4090 because I dont hit my fps target lol

wispy fractal
#

i mean i dont even play games with rtx lol

#

i just care about the frames

ashen spindle
#

I wanted to play with it in control because that looks nice

#

but I couldnt hit enough fps on my resolution with it

#

but in general it should be about on par with the 4080, sometimes better sometimes worse

#

yeah, just in a bigger way than physx since its still faked physics just better

#

nah far from it

#

this gen is basically like last gen nvidia in rtx, more or less

#

no that was on purpose

reef patrol
ashen spindle
#

like nvidias last gen performance in rtx implementation

#

since general DXR nvidia already lost a bit of their headstart

#

for example

#

oh yeah for sure, it's still very much an edge case for most games

wispy fractal
#

does ANYONE have 2 monitors issues using displayport 2.1 for 2 2k 240hz monitors witht he 7900 xtx

#

just making sureo

wheat plume
ashen spindle

wheat plume

I got neofetch working on termux

ashen spindle

the same it would lose on nvidia

wheat plume

wheat plume

#

I once used a command line launcher
It was pretty cool

#

The Linux version of metro games don't have any graphical settings :/

#

Only basic brightness and resolution

#

Nope...last time I played last light it had no settings

ashen spindle
#

idk if raytracing on mesa is even working yet

wheat plume
#

Did you not hear the news a few years ago?

#

GOG no support Linux

#

Not anymore
They dropped Linux support

reef patrol
#

Ironic.

thick elk
#

The general problem with benchmarking ray tracing in general is that you can't really do it in isolation, different parts of the gpu get loaded by rendering.
If you want an ideal scenario for AMD you would generally make heavy use of sharders combined with ray tracing
If you want an ideal scenario for nvidia you would path-trace a relatively simple older game

ashen spindle
#

so some seem to work but not in general yet

thick elk
#

Well feral's days of porting games to linux are mostly over anyway with how well wine works nowadays

wheat plume
#

Cause that port can't reach more than like 20fps for me...

#

Runs fine under proton though

#

Keyboard don't matter

thick elk
#

In case of total war games, multiplayer was not compatible with the feral version, so nowadays I just use wine even though a native version is availble

#

For me that works fine, although I have not tried weird keyboard layouts

wheat plume
#

Multiple monitors....yeah
That can be finicky

ashen spindle
#

the bl2 "port" to linux was done by gearbox

thick elk
#

There are definitely some issues, but not having a per monitor refresh rate and multi monitor + adaptive sync really kills using xorg

ashen spindle
#

because unreal runs on linux without many changes in most cases

thick elk
#

Except when using nvidia because well nvidia on linux...

wheat plume
#

Nvidia is still holding back Wayland progress :/

#

Cause even if shit works fine on Intel and AMD
It gets held back because it doesn't work on Nvidia drivers

thick elk
#

I wouldn't go that far, wayland is a focal point for much of the space and there are definitely issues being tackled

#

I will give you that, Nvidia does not go well with the Linux desktop.

vagrant pagoda
#

I mean to quote Linus, "fuck you Nvidia" lol

wheat plume

for AMD?

#

AMD drivers are already built into the kernel and activate if you have the hardware, so you dont really have to do anything

#

if you need to fix tearing, you just add a line to a config file and reboot

gusty kiln
wheat plume
#

huh?

ashen spindle

you can start by enjoying the gitlab issue tracker to find if it exists dogekek
