what the fuck is that waste of space on desktop
this aint a tiktok video youtube
Ooff
doesn't look like that for me, not yet at least
I got one luckily coming nearby soon
Also ultrawide problem
earlier today it was different for me too
and there I already complained because they reduced how many you see compared to months ago
we'll see how it goes, I guess they usually roll out the updates gradually for users
for now I have 4 per row
even for non ultrawide this is shit
Surprised only one microcenter for all of California
AppImage developer wants to upgrade to LibFuse 3 on the very stupid assumption that LibFuse 3 will be the final major version and LibFuse 4 wont happen
π€¦ββοΈ
"Ill only update AppImage to LibFuse 3 if LibFuse 3 stays at this version forever"
that aint how software works
Unless its not being developed anymore, but LibFuse is being worked on regularly
Distros dont include version 2 cause its dead for 4 years already
and this guy be like "Nah, I aint updating cause 4 will come around eventually"
LOL
inb4 we need literal dip switches to pre-assign RAM amounts π
The problem is it is specific to the exact sticks you use...
Surely you can cut down the time somewhat by predefining certain things π€
Maybe the RAM sticks need a new XMP esque chip that provides a safeboot setting or something.
i ordered a m.2 ssd on amazon and all i got was the box

amazon employee mustβve stolen it cause the seal was broken π
It also depends on the exact traces in the motherboard, and the exact level of memory controller quality
SMH putting memory controllers on RAM was a mistake.
wait till you hear we will get computation done in ram soon too
The memory controllers are on the cpu not on the ram
Ah my bad. I thought they moved the memory controller over. Apparently it's voltage?
Either way it bugs me that we have accepted POST times of up to a minute π
π€· only needed first time
They used to just train one module for ddr4
But with ddr5 you have to train all modules
[citation needed]
Every board I've owned trained each slot separately
Yes each slot
But one module per stick
So it was fast
Or maybe it was only bank per stick
Ddr5 is extremely thougho on am5
Its just to calculate the trace length and signal amplitude to each memory chip on ddr4
Well, intel still makes 2x the profit of nvidia, while having 1/5 of the market cap. π It's all about growth predictions and regarded investors
I'd say intel still has more upside
Market cap is meaningless
It's very important investing wise
Yeah Intel has about double the income and double the net of Nvidia.
But Intel has 4.5 times the actual assets
also lower margins

Imagine buying distro plates. At that cost or at all. They crack so easily it's ridiculous.
for Instagram
I hope arctic releases a liquid freezer 3 with their new Max fans by the time I make a new build
Is anyone here using the wooting keyboard for MIDI control? I know that people out there are -- I see the github projects for it -- just wondering if anyone here I can ask about your experience w/ it
I was mostly curious how the switch felt for vst control
a basic keyboard wouldn't have near enough keys or an optimal layout for midi use but if the switch actually feels good for velocity control, I could imagine making a custom board layout with them
since you're looking at $1/switch, and then $0.50 per sensor
Ah, thanks, that's exactly the sort of info I was looking for
the production midi controllers out there with 100+ hall effect sensors are multiple thousands of dollars, RIP
can't imagine replacing my midi keyboard with this one, unless I'm doing something very uh specific but I have no idea what that would be
maybe I should try to play around a bit tho
maybe with stiffer springs it'd be alright
really appreciate it. the dream dies while still in the pipe, aha
might pick up a regular keyboard just for DAW use rather than generic VST control to handle sliders or parameters or whatnot, to replace my cheapo basic pc keyboard
but won't expect much musical control from it
Aussie dollars, what people around here think of Focal?
In business it's best to only replace equipment once the price of maintenance overcomes the price of purchasing, training, and maintaining the new shit.
Although many times a business does stick around on the old equipment for far too long as the management is unable to factor in the value of new equipment
anyone got some keycaps and switches they would recommend for the 60he? im quite new to keyboards in general
it's hot swappable but only with other lekker switches, for keycaps start off with some cheap pbt mx style ones from amazon
never heard of the elegia but overall focal is quite respected for their open back stuff, can't say much about their closed backs
stuff like the clears and the elex
it's quite expensive compared to the beyerdynamics I have
which are very high quality on their own
thx papi
the He60 uses a Hall Effect sensor soldered onto the keyboard's mainboard that detects a magnet built inside the Lekker switch.
Since the Hall Effect sensors are not at all standard in the keyboard industry this means that although the Lekker switch is hot swappable; there are no alternative switches on the market that plug into the Wooting
replacing the switch is a little weird, the whole reason you buy this keyboard is for the switches
welp
monitor has a dead pixel
any suggestions for a 1080p panel?
at least 120hz and IPS

Budget?
400 CAD?
and that's the really loose "rough ballpark" budget
I won't bat an eye if it crawls past 500 and it's a nice panel
Then get the viewsonic
It's one of the best esport monitor
While still being ips
Top tier strobing tech
seeing complaints about horrible viewing angles from reviews
any alternatives?
They arenβt better than the ViewSonic or Zowie monitors but the 360hz monitors are really cheap right now in the US, both the Asus and Alienware are down to $299 right now.
...I really don't need more than 120
nor do I have hardware that can run the games I play at 360hz
nor are they games that really require such a refresh rate

https://www.notebookcheck.net/Alienware-AW2524H-Pricing-and-availability-for-inaugural-500Hz-gaming-monitor-is-revealed.698710.0.html This has got a release date now , 21.03 , $829.99
The Alienware 500Hz gaming monitor is now enjoying its final appearance as a showcase model prior to becoming available on the North American market. The AW2524H is backed to push IPS display technology to its limit by pairing its refresh with NVIDIA's new Reflex Latency Analyzer as well as G-SYNC to eliminate ghosting and tearing.
you're trying to sell a ferrari to a person asking for a shitbox
(tbh if it's a vintage...50s-70s ferrari, you have my attention)
...that much for a 1080p panel?
...jesus
Well you walk into the car dealership saying want to pay Ferrari money, so of course people point you to the Ferrari first.
"I can pay 400-500 for a smartphone, it needs X and Y"
"Might I recommend this model, it has X, Y, and Z"
"I don't need Z."
"Yes but Z is a good feature and is within your budget as outlined."
Just get the cheapest monitor I suppose, and use the money saved to buy chips
not THE cheapest, but I do see your point
next time I'll be a lot more direct (in that I don't care about refresh rate beyond a certain point)
MSI 24.5β FHD (1920 x 1080) Non-glare with Super Narrow Bezel 240Hz 1ms 16:9 HDMI/DP/USB Height Adjustment G-Sync Compatible IPS Gaming Monitor (OPTIX MAG251RX),Black https://a.co/d/0f3Hx5E
This is pretty well regarded
Hwu also has a review on it

Also don't know if i should go OLED or Mini Led, both have their Pros and Cons but the Burn-in is just not something i'd like to bother with, but the colours are so much better on the OLEDs π¨βπ»
this monitor is super good value if you can find on the market now
its very low priced usually
Irc the new Samsung oled tech is real good at avoiding burn in, such that it might take a few years to develop noticable ammounts if the claims are accurate
Examples would be like Samsung 32" Odyssey Neo G7 S32BG75 vs AW3423DW/F
Don't think i could go back to a 1080p monitor
Would preferably want a 27'' monitor but 32/34'' are doable maybe even going to the 49'' monitors
Yeah the Aspect ratio is something i've thought about so that's something that kinda pushes the buying decision but who know how the future looks there's more support for UW games nowadays
Well seems like there are rumors of it releasing
https://www.microcenter.com/product/663880/asus-swift-pg27aqdm-27-2k-qhd-(2560-x-1440)-240hz-gaming-monitor The new Asus display is out too
Get it now! Experience crisp, fast moving visuals and gain the upper hand with OLED technology. The 27 inch OLED panel in the Swift OLED PG27AQDM is 1440p and offers a superfast 240 Hz refresh rate to deliver the smoothest gameplay ever! True 10 bit color depth and a cinema grade 99% DCI P3 gamut to deliver
Don't know if the brightness is better than the LG one
Would need to see some reviews
Well seems like it's the HDMI 2.0(Not 2.1 as LG) , same coating, larger/better heatsink, ''better'' OSD system and maybe higher peak brightness according to some reddit thread
There's a ''deal'' according to a website i'm looking at on the AW3423DWF and it's 1049β¬ but it started selling at 1099β¬ so an 50β¬ difference π
Lol yeah , the AW2723DF is 599β¬ here the starting price was 589β¬ and cheapest it's been is 535β¬
Yeah but it's the OLED burn-in still and is there any drawback using a ''Non'' G-sync monitor with a NVIDIA card?
timestamped to the end. smh
I use the Samsung Odyssey G8 OLED, it has pixel shift inside. So every now and then it just moves a few pixels to avoid sitting too long at one spot.
Very classic redtape trouble. But definitely not optimal that so much of this has to involve calling real people over and over.
I recall I believe Linus saying that US states have such convoluted and confusing tax codes and regulations that it's often CHEAPER to let them fine you for the violation and fix it later rather then trying to figure out how to comply in the first place
Or you know. Hire an accountant.
But of course the US is complex af. It's +55 different countries agreeing on things to some extent.
Ok, how has your experience been with it? Good/Bad? and are you using a multiple monitors? π π
Seen some would want to choose the G8 because of Coil whine and fan on the AW3423DWF, also the Protective film that the G8 has is good too
the DWF shouldnt have any fans only the DW due to the g sync module
Read that there's one fan instead of two
oh huh
DWF has one fan, DW has 2
But my experience hasn't been perfect though, OLED and the panel are looking beautiful. Keep in mind when the sun hits your screen it make the screen washed out, and if you are in a brightly lit room the blacks aren't deep black, but more gray. First it also had artifacting issues when entering HDR, but they fixed that in an update. Only I issue I have now is randomly my monitor's volume get increased by one like every hour or so.
LG's OLED doesn't get the gray tone I believe because it isnt QD-OLED. But it doesn't get as bright.
Also I like the glossy screen, but it does attract dust particles more easily
Ok wierd with that Volume increasing π€
G8 has an external power supply, hence it doesn't need a fan inside. Power supply is big, but if it fails you can easily swap it out. And the stand of the G8 looks sleek and still leaves all the space on your desk. I was pretty unsure about the longevity of fans in the DWF/DW. Maybe they are silent in the beginning, but ramp up once dust gets inside or maybe fail over time? Can't be bothered opening it up.
Oof... external power bricks. The enemy of cat owners everywhere π
think the grey look in very bright room is from the coating on the alienware not the qd oled inherently, they have a semi glossy semi matt coating
Its the same on the G8 though
Doesn't bother me all that much, as colors and everything is just already 500% better then a regular IPS
Yeah i've got the same opinions on the G8 with it looking sleek and the fan gone
G8 is QD-OLED, but they don't mention it for some reason on their site
Yeah and some retailer i was looking at had the wrong product code too
oh a different g8 lol
Yeah i think it's called G85SB
I do see prices dropping at a decent rate though. I bought this a month ago (retail was β¬1500), only MediaMarkt had a discount till β¬1218 (site wide discount). And now I see the G8 being listed regularly for 1299/1269
Wouldn't be surprised if it would be 1000 bucks with a black friday sale
Yeah might be worth it to wait until then and find some good deal
damn surprised the g8 is costing so much more than the alienware lol
The monitors are priced like this here : AW3423DWF - 1049β¬ , AW3423DW - 1227β¬ , G85SB - 1349β¬
Probably perfectly fine indoors I assume. Apparently the new OLED from LG would be 190 cd/m2 compared to Odyssey G8's 250 cd/m2
oh the g8 apparently has BFI but limited to 60hz unfortunately
guys is there any discount code available for now ?
no
ok thx
Same with AWs
oh I thought AW didnt have it at all lol
Correction, yes thought that AWs had it
What is BFI?
black frame insertion
ahhh
since I turn my brightnes down quite a bit I think that would work fine for me so if we get higher hz models that would be a great addition
though I would love to have the option to try it at 60hz too, for the few games that are locked to 60 anyway

so whats a good DWQHD monitor
idk if there even is another one aside from the samsung
i thought it was common nice for ultrawides to be in that format
did you mean dwqhd or uwqhd?
1530β¬ here atm.
dwqhd
Have the MSI one been released yet?
is there even wider wide screens?
imo the whole 2x 1440p in 1 panel is already pretty wide on the samsung one
oh wow didn't know there were that many actually, guess most are for productivity
i mean i guess in general i just want to fit 2 monitors in 1 panel
later this month apparently
right now i have a 24" and 22" 1080p so anything really is an upgrade
but at the same time i am not really prepared to spend 2grand
Ok so the pricing might be off then
I know the G9 is good since it uses the latest gen VA panel but does cost like 1.5k but idk anything about the other options
dwqhd is mostly for office use still so idk if there is many reviews on it really
G9 occasionally goes on offer iirc so it's worth watching out for those
I was tempted to ultrawides when I was upgrading but the fact you have to use software to emulate multiple desktops and good window snapping put me so I just opted for triple 27" 4k monitors
works out about half the price of something like a G9 too
i can recommend alienware aw2723df or asus pg27aqn for competitive games. 27inch and 1440p is the sweet spot for competitive gaming. get an oled for single player games. i have an LG c1 oled and it looks great on any AAA games. never tried VA or TN panels my whole life and i hate curve panels
if anyone wanna upgrade their mouse this year i would recommend lamzu thorn which is coming out in april⦠looks like it has potential
as i already use display fusion to combat windows's shitty taskbar on multiple monitors i personally dont see it as a negative. but iirc the g9 can use 2 HDMI cables and then treats them as 2 monitors so windows also sees 2 monitors
thats what attracted me to those dual panel monitors
That feature does sound pretty nice to be honest
but then how do you play video games, does it just become one monitor?
but would you look at just one screen for playing on it or windowed mode π€
just one half
the other screen/half will just have browser and discord
as usual
basically ends up being the same as now but without any ugly borders in between, just 1 stand and better resolution
That's what I've been thinking of doing too
But if it's not central your neck will be constantly looking to the left or right, right π€
GNOME 44 still to get a better than half tiling, when Windows 11 can do that with voice commands (not natural speech ..just YET!), and that doesnt look very good :/

Chrome is copying Firefox's download popover
Yay! The bar is really annoying lmao, takes up so much screen realestate π
I mean it should still exist as an option ig but i sure as hell won't use it
Hasn't that always been a submenu thing?
yes but never right click, it was in an arrow you could click on
this is gone now, you must right click

The one tool meant to never fail
I still Wait for the Day where Linux is more established for gaming
I wanna get away from Windows
try next decade maybe
Sadly thats probably how long it will take at a minimum
The Steam Deck and Valve are really the only people trying to push it ;-;
every other game company seem to be against it, except indie devs and Apex Legends anyway
Apex is still the only large AAA game that supports it in Multiplayer
well..GTA V Online also works
Companies just donβt want to support more devices
Funny cause Fortnite works on Android, and Android is just as fragmented in hardware and software as Linux is
Iβm theory both Unity and Unreal can build for Linux but it means more support
And that just sucks, Linux is so Nice to use
nah, the issue is AntiCheat, not the game engine
Additionally I think the openness of Linux worries some online companies in terms of stopping cheaters and hackers
Fortnite CAN PLAY in Linux but you cant join servers due to EAC
Same for Destiny 2 and whatnot
Even though cheaters can use PCI cards to cheat with a second PC π
the difference here is you support a handful devices more and gain millions more customers, linux desktop is a fraction
They could just handle Anti cheat on the Server
handful
there is a couple thousand brands of android
all with different android versions and kernels
handful of different variants you need to support
and a lot of the older brands get told they can't install new software and it's no longer supported
not like its arch vs ubuntu out there in android land
it kind of is
you definitely dont have to manually install your desktop renderer or window manager on android phones
or similar stuff
Why would they want to open up the can of worms that is, supporting more people who will likely be more vocal but in the minority in terms of its users?
the only real difference in Linux distros is package manager and format LOL
the desktops is what is most different and those are distro independant
nah there is only so much you can check on server
I have no issues with cheaters in single player games, if you wanna ruin your own game experience, thats fine...but the moment they go on public multiplayer, thats the issue .-.
so server-side AC would be nicer to have
what
server side ac means they could basically not detect aimbot or wallhacks or anything like that
how is that nicer
in theory
Server Side Authentication is not wholly possible for every game additionally it can make game feel worse.
having only server-side would be better for everyone from a UX pov
Whilst yes, in a perfect world it'd be great it's not practical
??? how is having AC that literally cant detect certain things better for everyone
in theory....
dont need to have client side AC running in the background and being super invasive rootkits
no even in theory server side anti cheat will not detect some very basic cheats
cough cough Vanguard...
Vanguard does work though
literal rootkit
yes I wish more AC would be like vanguard
Vanguard is so good it'll detect cheats even in non Valorant games lmao
e.g escape from tarkov
yea lol
tarkov cheaters have to remove valorant or they cant cheat in tarkov with some of the chets lol
Whilst yes, it's technically a root kit and bad, it's one of the main ways to stop cheaters
no
No
oh lol
tarkov cheaters have to remove valorant
Tarkov uses BattleEye which doesn't detect all cheats
yeah..
Sounds more like it doesn't detect any cheats
tarkov is an example of how to do anti cheat measures really bad
If a Tarkov cheater installs Valorant they will get banned in Valorant iirc for the Tarkov cheat
but also a great example of why anti cheat is needed because too many people cheat otherwise
Valorant is still cheatable using DMA hardware but they are still good at detecting that
it will always be a battle for sure
DMA cheats being essentially PCI cards that sends memory to another PC. That secondary PC is then the one running the cheats iirc
Harder to detect with Vanguard and even less so with Battleye
I believe a worry with Linux and multiplayer games is that it will be harder for game developers to detect cheaters and instead of gaining a larger user base of linux users, cheaters will have more advantages just moving to Linux
and that is more stuff to suport, on a tech and support staff side
Cheaters wont move to Linux if the tools on Windows are easy to use already
Cheaters will takes the easiest AND least-detectable route
So if that means spinning up Linux VMs, they will do that
games ban you if you play on Windows VM...not to mention Linux VMs
Unless you try your damn hardest to mask it being a VM
and afaik one os makes it easier to mask that
you can mask a VM to the same degree in any OS
What I'm basically saying is that with Linux its openess is also its downfall especially for the anticheat software.
Could say that for Android too but these games are still on it
how does AC on Android even work? Does EAC have an Android and iOS port?
iirc a lot of cheats got made for android because it was less detectable
I remember that happening for Old School Runescape when the app came out
last I checked they mostly stop things by not allowing virual keyboard inputs so you are limited to touch inputs
which doesnt eliminate cheats but makes it much less attractive

still sceptical about that one

so ehhh who knows if that stuff really comes out
Ah ok π
the issue here seems to be efficency aka fans can do a lot more heat dissipation with much lower powerdraw
idk if that will be set off by other advantages
but especially on something like a phone or laptop with thin battery you dont want to spend much energy on cooling instead of hearing a fan but longer battery

contrary to popular belief, there is nothing between zero and 100
i'm still not sure why V was so hostile against me
I just recommneded something with a comparable feature set in the same layout to what was in a vid THEY linked
ZSA is the company that made the ergodox ez
they used a different name before iirc
OLKB iirc
To be clear I got my Ergodox via Drop. As a review sample. So I don't think the name ZFA was never mentioned when they offered us an... Infinity I think it was called. With the small LCD
oh yea, right
yea the infinity is a different board entirely
zsa just makes the ez

I kind of regret giving my Infinity uh... were they... gateron yellows? clears? All I remember is they were like slightly lighter than MX reds.
Oh I - LOVE - linears.
clears
especially when solid tactiles are a dime a dozen
I still haven't found an mx tactile I like
I should order the spring kit and lube the other 60HE I have to compare with.
ngl clickiez in tactile mode (75g spring) and anubis switches are both pretty solid
at least IMO
and with a 75g it is just meme territory
are you weak or what
I got the 40g clickiez and they are wonderful
115g peak force
Have you used them actually?
big /S btw
The 75g aren't more tactile
They just have a stronger spring
my brother in christ
these switches by design are wickedly tactile, that's the point
and a stiffer spring usually hides some of the strength of the tactility
this is already considered too stiff
you still get a drop of 40g from that tactile bump
The IBM wheelwriter switches were stronger and they were fancy because they were the lightest switches of the era lmao
and they are waaaay too high peak force
That's like your opinion maaaan
I don't have a force curve on those, but here is a beamspring that was inspired by the selectric
the general consensus I got from meetups on the skcm browns was "too stiff"

Ok?
most of the vocal community are 65% conformists circlejerking around the latest GMK set and recoloured linear

My dad thought grey's were too light
Tho he ended getting regular blacks because all of them were too light and he liked them being cheap

Iβm a simple man
I donβt need to lube my keyboard
Or customize the shit out of it
I just want a good quality item that will last me time while gaming
not like you have kids to put through college lol, lucky duck
I want something that will feel nice on top of yhat
chad stock keyboard user vs virgin custom keyboard snobs
Well yeah obviously I want it to feel nice
I've got 4 boards with different switches and yeah trying not to buy other boards ''Because''
am using my wootings stock too apart from other keycaps
And I really like being able to feel when the key actuates so I bought a sampler if keys and ended up picking kailh coppers for work and clickiez for home
BUT! the latest Wooting pic will probably be bought with preferably the Coiled cable π (And if the macro board becomes reality)
The wooting has been collecting dust unfortunately because my wireless mousepad interferes with it π¦
What wireless mousepad have you got?
Logitech
Ah
It's just the charging is awesome and I found that more useful than the wooting
Feels like the G502X Lightspeed last forever
Actually tho it has it's keyboard cover on so the dust is collecting on the cover but same difference
I have a gpw superlight and it just didn't last as long as the g305 did so I got the charger
What keeb you using atm. then?
Gmmk2 with clickiez
Have you got the WRK LOUDR?
Ok got a GMMK PRO just not being used because the Wooting and another board which i don't remember the name of
At work gmmk tkl with coppers
Was my main before wooting
Actually I could use the wooting at work
But it doesn't have built in macros (that worked well enough for me at the time) and we aren't allowed to install extra software so I've never swapped it out
What is this ''Low-end keyboard''
Probably the Reddragon lol but that is quite good tbh. after modding
Yeah
Also how do you capture videos?
What silent switches do you use?
Akko recently released their ''Pink silent switches'' they are nothing compared to the Boba U4s though
The Boba gum are quite similiar to the U4s
I've got a Z690 board would it be ''worth'' to buy the 13900KS? or would the ram support limit it?
Define worth it
It's often never worth it to replace working components...
I said working
If one could get a good deal there's always possibilites
Oh lol
I thought you meant an actual fax machine
God we deal with so many of them?
It'll be faster but the question is how much are you paying for that performance
And a 12900k for example would be just as bottlenecked by slow ram...
Nope not at the moment and just running an 12700K
Just dont
I feel so dumb, I just spent hours because I was setting a register to a certain number, instead of setting a certain bit of a register to 1.
So like I was setting register to 4, instead of 4th bit of register to 1

If I have a few constants to used to remap, so in my case user writes A0, and I want to return the associated channel number for adc, which I looked up, would the best way to do this be to store which pin is which channel in a struct, or whatβs a better way to do it?
Why not like a btr7?
Also if you need a dongle
Look for a 2.5mm balanced one and use a 2.5 to 4.4
2.5mm balanced is pretty common these days for portable stuff
cuz I don't want to spend 200 on a dongle
both my main headphones are 4.4mm, just want the easiest plug and play
@gusty kiln I found another dealer they have a focal clear and lcd-2 and lcd-X

Interesting
Using them for Dex
Can watch anything on your phone without anyone else seeing xf
It kinda looks like you can see it from the video thumbnail
Yeh
Using a controller
But you can use your phone as a keyboard and touchpad in Dex mode xd
I think that is phone to phone
Though would be cool if Android was like windows when it came to connecting a display
There is only one phone
Xd
Samsung Dex is goated
Yes but one not every phone phone has display out
Two it not guaranteed to behave a certain way
Samsung Dex like carmonben said is probably the best implementation
There is also Motorolas implementation
Everybody else relies on Android desktop mode which is not guaranteed to be a smooth experience
Sony apparently fixed up the stock desktop for their implementation?
Aaaand google says they broke it in android 13
Geh
Motorola should make a flagship so I can consider it
Oh wait they did but it doesn't have an SD card slot and it only has 2x telephoto
What's the point :/
Wow that's awful
The main camera is actually higher angular res than the telephoto camera
It does work on Samsung browser lel
Yep
And brave and opera etc
Oof
Welp boiz

Not that surprising, knowing that Ring (Amazon's subsidiary) gives away camera footage from customers camera without warrant from police
And WITH warrant, which just further shows you shouldn't cloud your goddamned security footage π
Agreed, although cloud can be a great backup, there are numerous steps you would have to take to secure it
The most secure system to date is using a local system to record the camera footage, then encrypting it before backing it up to the cloud
given in the us you can also just film the entire street so every neighbour has everyone else in view it doesnt really matter if you keep it secure lol
You don't film streets or public areas, you should only film your property. In some countries recording outside your property with a surveillance camera is illegal
thats why I said in the us, the doorbell can just see everything in view lol
here you cant even use it on the front door without warning and making sure everyone living in the house is ok with it and needs to not be saved forever and needs to not include any public area
If that was the case in the US, then police wouldn't give a shit about your footage to begin with
But doorcams almost always record the street
That's because of how people mount them, they just include them with the door bell. If the took time and mounted it above the door, looking down and only capturing the area in front of the door/lawn
That's how they're designed
Thousands upon thousands of doorcam videos on YT shows the norm.
Whether wrong or not, the norm is the norm. And is why police care
Indeed, I'm just saying that half the problem is cloud abuse by admins/police, the other half is people not recording only what they own.
but people not doing security properly is as old as security existing
thats why that will only change if its by law or design
Yeah, in all honesty it is probably better that they do it like that than not do it at all
like its annoying to get it set up here but I prefer it that way since I know I can trust myself to do it properly and know I wont be on a dozen unsafe cameras for the web to see if I leave the house
Yeah, same here
I have a doorcam. But only active when someone rings down at the street. And it's shared with the rest of the stairwell.
Helpful to screen Mormons like today
But it's closed circuit, no storage outside of call logged timestamps (helpful for postmen claiming they rang but didn't)
And the laws about camera as pretty strict here, even on private property.
Oh yeah, cameras in apartment complex is another basket entirely, it would be best handled by the complex owner as they can just add it to the contract that you are okay with having a camera in stairwell. But some complex owners are lazy and don't invest much in safety other than required
you cant add that to a contract
you need to ask for permission but you cant make it a requirement
Not a lawyer myself, but I think you could probably formulate that to make that they acknowledge the camera is there and give permission by signing the contract
nope
you cant add stuff like that into a contract, just like you can add no pets allowed but it's not binding
so the contract can have it but it's not binding so it would still not be a permission
I mean the us has a good level fore the most part. You can film anywhere people don't have a reason to expect privacy
The common areas of an apartment complex would be fine
Even though it's private property not open to the general public
You have no control of it's access by other people, so you'd have no expectation of privacy in common areas
the fact you can have the whole fucking street in your doorbell view so I drive past and am captured on your camera does not make me think it has a "good level for the most part"
But anybody could freely stand on the sidewalk and hold a video camera
Not even video it just write down descriptions of every car / person
Why it's the street
What if my kid is playing in the front yard, do I get arrested for the street in the back ground?
you need permission from people that you film in public
you would have to make it so the camera doesnt cover the street in the back
That sounds dumb
you are covered if you capture something like a scenery, a statue or so and people are on it by nature of it being open to public
you can get permissions for publishing stuff like news have to do that
But if it's in public and people are walking by they get permission from all of them?
no I meant you can get permission for publishing stuff like that without having explicit permission if its in the public space
So the government can give permission for people to film you?
That sounds even worse than just letting anyone film in public.
publishing/recording has different rules and especially with gdpr you cant store it when you record your place etc.
So if I tivo the news im a criminal?
when you what
oh lol no
I dont think recording a recording is the same as recording live
No I'm talking about live video
Does your news not do live reporting from locations?
journalistic freedom is above it, same as for certain artistic freedom
but you recording your place is not journalism
So what if I just want to report on how long it takes my neighbor's hedge to grow
So I point a camera at it
And it just happens to record the street too
to constantly record it and not just make a single picture to document it?
Well you have to record it over a long period of time in order to track how fast it grows
yeah no chance, you gotta black out the street area or make it so the street isnt on it so you cant record people without their consent
But you just said that journalists have exemption
you're not a journalist if you want to check on your neighbours hedge lol
idk the exact laws for these edge cases lol
Much easier to just have all the freedom
Much easier to figure out if you're a criminal or not
It's supposed to be hard to determine if you're a criminal or not
That sounds very authoritarian
I don't see why you think it's privacy if anybody in the public could actually use their own eyes to look at you
because if they see me I know they cant upload their eyes or save it or send it someone else or use my likeness for anything etc. etc.
You don't know that
Person could have a photographic memory and draw you in a picture and sell it
is it realistic to expect that from an average person vs is it realistic that an average recording can be saved and used?
There's also a 0% chance that you walk in public and you're not in the background of somebody's photo
https://www.rechtambild.de/2015/02/strassenfotografie-eine-rechtlich-heikle-kunst/
An artist shot a picture of a street scene including a woman. This pic was preseented in a galery. The woman sued the photographer and the pic must be removed. The supreme court has refused the complain of the photographer.
Yeah but the photo is still online
So it stopped nothing
Also consider that both iOS and Androids default cloud storage for photos does automatic facial recognition
And they both automatically upload
The fact that you expect privacy is childish. That's what I'm trying to get at.
The cat is out of the bag you cannot put it back in
thats the whole point, to prevent it from happening in the first place...
the picture in this case is gone there was no digital copy
But it already happens so you're not preventing anything
Just go on your local digital restaurant review website and tell me there's not photographs of the restaurant with people in the background online
Or Google the name of your nearest local landmark and tell me that people haven't uploaded pictures with people in the background
All of those photographs are extremely common to use for turning facial recognition algorithms
as already said something like a landmark is not covered since that is one of the exceptions
Why is there only iso in stock?
Neither ISO or ANSI is in stock.
Hasn't been since... summer.
you do not see reviews of restaurants with people in images, if a restraurant has them they usually make it obvious or ask people if they can take them
I mean you canβt even preorder
Can't even pre-order - What - specifically.
What defines a landmark theb
According to Pokemon Go literally anything, including the local burger king.
There
Huh... that's unusual. Where'd ANSI go all of a sudden.
idk man I'm not a lawyer nor do I care for these specifics since I dont take random pictures, it's not like swat is coming down on you and people in general just have an understanding here that you dont randomly film everyone
Itβs supposed to be there?
Yes.
Maybe pass the word lol
Maybe I already have.
Lolzzz
I know I had to get signed approval from everyone else living in this house to record the shared space outdoor, make sure I dont cover the neighbours area(bc I cba asking them for permission) and if anyone living here would not be ok with it I would have to take it down the moment they say so

and have a sign that says the property is being recorded in a visible space
Trespassers will be recorded and ridiculed on YT.
idk if I would be allowed to just randomly upload that
took a ruling in 2018 that first made dashcams a useable piece of evidence
So that wasn't only on my end. Was convinced Discord bugged out for me visually xD
it seemed to bugg the moment you posted it from one to two images lol
Not sure how it managed to upload this twice. Scaled up - But I kind of love how aggressive it looks π
but yeah having two images sometimes fucks up discord sclaing, noticed that when posting two screenshots in one instead of two posts
I only uploaded one. Or think I did at least π
This has now been fixed, thanks for the heads up
I can see it be a popular pet owner car. It needs easier access to the front though.
Fleet? It's a car, not a boat silly.

Either way though. That void in the front still needs easier access. If you drop anything, you're in for a jungle gym crawl if you have to go over the "dashboard"
Just one thing, I personally hate is capacitive buttons, they are just a pain to deal with, especially for a commercial vehicle it seems like the wrong choice for me.
Sure they last longer but unless you mess it up bigtime mechanical buttons will last you long enough.
In general they are less reliable, don't give good feedback when interacting with them by feel and really don't work well when you use something like gloves
All things you may want in a vehicle like this.
I have just never understood why you would prefer them in most cases.
Never driven in one, but that seems pretty cringe worthy indeed.
As for space sure that could be a reason but most of the time it's not.
They could have easily made it physical buttons that would have been a lot easier to operate on feel
In terms of controls quite the contrast with my mom's car (honda civic 2014)
Image for reference: https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-r6fVlTnaV14/UoqkPgeKIdI/AAAAAAAAXLk/7lfG-5BP_j0/s1600/Honda+Civic+2014+interior.jpg
Note that my mom has a different version and it's a manual
Also the steering wheel is in the wrong spot
Still from the screenshot it does seem like it has physical buttons everywhere
I'm not at all a fan of that interior but that's mostly opinion over functionality

if a driver breaks something and you dont cleanly remove it then ofc it still has issues and reinstalling windows is just the heavy option that makes it simple, but by no means is a required step in almost all cases

And might work with your controller
They placed a header there for mipi but no official driver support yet sadly
Itβs standard mipi, so same thing phone screens and pi use
Portenta had one advantage, in built mipi to dp chip so it could output video by usb c
But this is more flexible
Just no drivers for now
And I donβt know how to make drivers for stuff like this yet

That sure sounds like a LAW ENFORCEMENT issue, not VW.
I'll take made up scenarios that no one sound would ever think up for 500, Alex.
If the car as geolocation, and there's a crime involved - especially regarding children, VW will 100% hand that over the second they're asked to by actual law enforcement.
Stop trying to find your car that Steve borrowed the other day and forgot where they left it, claiming your toddler was in it. Pay the damn money.
And I highly doubt police were actually involved in that silly scenario.
And sure enough, NYP confirms.

TLDR; Not procedure, someone done fucked up in this situation specifically. Police are not somehow magically incapable of serving legal warrants for information.
Moving on.
Based on this? No. Whoever handled the case was an idiot.
Oh look - Something completely different and unrelated to what we were just talking about. Your smoking gun cooled off quickly.
Having a design flaw on an entire model sold to thousands of customers is a bit of a different beast than "So one employee at VW fucked up once, we've addressed it."

Oh so Samsung does use ai to improve how moon looks on the photos with zoom
No it replaces the texture.
Well thatβs worse then
haiiiii
https://www.reddit.com/r/samsung/comments/l7ay2m/analysis_samsung_moon_shots_are_fake/
It's... "strongly AI enhanced" is how I'd put it
332 votes and 43 comments so far on Reddit
at least it's not like the cheap random brand phones that literally just put a new png of the moon over it
but it's not "real"
Not even going to bother debating on what defines AI enhanced. If you're wholeass just taking a circular object, reading the texture and replacing it, you're not enhancing - you're replacing π
...
as per the link i posted, this was on their monitor
they stood back a bit and used their phone to take a pic and got image 2
notice how it's not a single grey colour, but it's still the moon, and it still has the details they added
Like I said.
not at all
what you were saying came off as the controversy from a few years ago where a png was added on top of matching objects
Yes - Also I read the thread thoroughly...when it was posted... last night.
The AI is reading the brightness values - and then putting a photoshop texture on top that's partly transparent.
again..no
you're thinking of something else with this btw
and the post was posted 2 years ago
It's... the same thread, GK.
no like what i'm saying is, it wasn't posted last night either here or on reddit
irrelevant of the other messages, i'm replying directly to that statement
Alright - I saw it elsewhere then. Definitely commented on it last night. And the OP of thread still literally says the same as me π
misunderstood then, as I kept reading your messages as thinking it's closer to the huawei controversy
Like I said - I would argue that once you're replacing stuff outright, it isn't enhancement. It is replacement.
Indeed, and I thought you were calling samsung's moon photos replacement instead of a very very strong enhancement
I call them replacement, in the sense that what they're doing is not enhancement. Not saying they're replacing it with moon.png
im too dumb for this don't bother elaborating haha
Hi Samsung. This is the moon, please read brightness values as depth and apply texture of moon.
I dislike samsung phones hence don't have one -- Can you photo it for me? π
I have a OnePlus. So no. And the photos you literally copied from the reddit thread show and explain what happens π
oh I thought you were trying to get me to demonstrate it myself haha
Mnope.
I am making my argument for why this isn't what I consider enhancement, because it discards the source material entirely except for the brightness values, since it assumes within context that dark means crater, white means surface or mountain. And then it just applies a texture to the shape with depth and shadows.
fair ig
it's just putting a transparent moon texture over an upscaled image to give it more detail
doesn't even necessarily read brightness values
how does it generate the extra detail then?
i think its literally just ai sharpening and smoothening plus the grain from the sensor
It definitely appears to be adding detail that wasn't there prior. So that implies a texture or shader (which can be a texture) of some kind.
Looks like I caused a civil war again
not really as it is a legitimate issue if samsung does use textures
but i feel like people could have taken apart the app already
In that above reddit post there was an article that does go in depth in the whole thing https://www.inverse.com/input/reviews/is-samsung-galaxy-s21-ultra-using-ai-to-fake-detailed-moon-photos-investigation-super-resolution-analysis
Samsung has a scene optimizer that just seems to use AI (Learned Data) to improve scenes it recognizes afaik.
because it's "AI" I believe it's a bit more than just applying a texture to the image but is theoretically a similar process to improve scenes?
Like the AI Is essentially recognizing it's the moon and "enhancing" the image with known information to improve it which is essentially the same as applying a sharp texture to the image
Somebody tested it out again two days ago https://old.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/11nzrb0/samsung_space_zoom_moon_shots_are_fake_and_here/
idk why people are tying to make a big thing out of it
"ai" enhancement is how phones started to make good pictures at all
and still is how they do it
that doesn't only go for samsung
Yeah, and it's never going to change
I mean, with how AI has improved a lot of people are just going to add it to the workflow
I used Gigapixel AI for a flyer a few months ago
The photo I had was from an old digital camera like 2.1mp kinda quality so I used AI to upscale it and it was night and day difference and usable for a flyer
I mean most photographers edit their photos anyway
we're probably going to see AI enhancement used even more in the future
They do that π€
ocassionally
well i mean if you use the affected versions of ios/camera app probably
I couldn't find anything when googling it but I might have googled the terms wrong
The guy she tells you not to worry about
That cable management
π€€
its the one with the crapped up management isnt it
the moon outage is so weird :p it gets you a better picture
