Or just fire up the engines to heat the hangar :)

lethal hinge
#

if i wanna fly closest ill get is pulling the safety pins on the eject and eject myself into the ceiling of the hangar

carmine forge
#

Lol

#

What do you do specifically in the air force?

lethal hinge
#

structural repair

carmine forge
#

Oh cool

lethal hinge
#

aircraft structural maintenance

carmine forge
#

Just out of interest

#

What aircraft have you worked on?

lethal hinge
#

f16 and the other i cant say :P

carmine forge
#

Ah :)

#

Shame I only know how to somewhat fly the F18

lethal hinge
#

anyways back to tech talk is the HYTE Y60 case good?

lethal hinge
carmine forge
#

flight sim

#

DCS

#

That's why I say somewhat

lethal hinge
#

nice

carmine forge
#

Bc it's different to actually being in the cockpit

lethal hinge
#

i wouldnt know

carmine forge
#

And also that's using my keyboard and an xbox controller

#

So much less fine control over the aircraft - makes carrier landings painfully hard because it becomes really hard to make minor adjustments when using throttle to pitch

empty wren
#

Easy solution

carmine forge
#

Get a HOTAS

empty wren
#

Attach hotas looking joystick to keyboard

carmine forge
#

Ik

#

XD

lmfao

carmine forge
empty wren
#

3d printed hotas accessory+keyboard+API = aircraft flight controls

carmine forge
#

As in

#

3d printed handle

empty wren
#

Bootleg yoke and hotas

carmine forge
#

Lol

#

But what about the actual bearing thing or whatever it's called

empty wren
#

No idea what that is

carmine forge
#

That yokes or joysticks normally act on and registers the input

empty wren
#

Potentiometer?

carmine forge
#

Yes

empty wren
#

Oh those are old news

#

Magnetic mx switch is the future

carmine forge
#

Yes but does the keyboard have those?

empty wren
#

Though I will say some models use hall effect potentiometers on the higher end

empty wren
carmine forge
#

Then how are you strapping a bootleg yoke to the wooteng?

empty wren
#

Well with springs I guess

#

In the parts

#

Since the switches have barely any resistance

carmine forge
#

What I mean

empty wren
#

Nevermind

#

Lemme find a dumb picture hold on

carmine forge
#

Is how are you interfacing with the keyboard

#

To allow it to act like a yoke

#

Or a joystick

empty wren
#

Like this but better designed

carmine forge
#

Ohhh

empty wren
#

So it can swivel

#

Not tilt

carmine forge
#

That's pretty cool tbh

#

That would actually work well as well

#

Because of HE

empty wren
#

So long as you can create enough force resistance

#

Could be feasible

carmine forge
#

Btw

#

Does the Wooteng 2 HE have windows keys?

#

Or whatever they are called universally

#

Command keys I think (although that might be an Apple specific thing)

#

Anyway ty for your help @empty wren - much appreciated

empty wren
#

Super

carmine forge
#

Perfect

#

But going to go to bed tonight since I need to be up again in 5 hours

#

Gn :)

empty wren
#

You can remove em if you do not want them as well in the remap section in the wootility and good nivht

carmine forge
#

Ty

#

Oh and last thing

#

Is there any specific difference other than preference between ABS and PBT for the keycaps?

empty wren
#

Well sound can be slightly different

#

Color choice more available with abs

#

And time to shine from oil on keycaps

#

Abs can shine in under a year

empty wren
#

Well this will probably become more popular

old marlin
#

before clicking on it

#

you should know that LTT is quite familiar with the plattform already

#

since they already have a bunch of X1 carbons

#

not to say that either one is a bad printer

#

but the pricing is kinda weird

spring lagoon
#

I feel like the magnetic actuation of the wooting really lends itself to wireless technology (not Bluetooth, but superfast similar to wireless gaming mice). Wooting could really shake up the market by making a wireless board with wireless charging (qi), but perhaps the compromises are too much.

It would be nice for keyboard wireless to catch up to the 1ms latency we’ve been enjoying with mice for awhile now

fair gull
#

but

#

it has 1ms latency

#

and speed wise its 9.53nanoseconds for a 2 meter copper wire and 6.6nanoseconds for wireless

#

so 0.00000000953 seconds vs 0.0000000066 seconds

#

compared to the 0.001 seconds (thats 1ms)

old marlin
#

Like

#

If you buy a modern gaming keyboard it uses the same wireless protocols as modern gaming mice

#

There just is less of a reason for wireless keyboards

spring lagoon
#

Also am I missing something? All the videos I’ve seen of the wooting never mentioned wireless. I thought it was a wired board

#

Mine is still shipping which is why I don’t know 😦

#

I guess for mice removing a wire actually serves the purpose of making it more functional, where as doing that for keyboards is purely aesthetic… so I see your point and understand why that trend hasn’t caught on

fair gull
#

also removing the wire for mice is about movement freedom mainly

spring lagoon
#

Now I’m curious about dongle and custom battery solutions… Is there a dongle out there that could work with the wooting (and retain near-original latency and no data loss) if I manually soldered a battery on it? Could be a fun project and I could post my results in the modding group

reef patrol
#

probably

#

I think we had one guy asking about some weird japanese dongle with battery that didn't work out months ago?

fair gull
#

sub 1ms will be hard cause the keyboard is basically exactly 1ms

spring lagoon
spring lagoon
fair gull
#

well we arent wireless though. so youd either make everything use the usb-c or you solder on the pcb which will definitely void the warranty

spring lagoon
carmine forge
#

Just out of interest

#

Do all the keys have lekker switches with HE?

fair gull
#

yes

carmine forge
#

Just since I use my function keys quite a lot

#

Oh sweet

#

Also have there been any updates on the EU-Dop batch

reef patrol
#

Mnope.

carmine forge
#

Since I'm not seeing any in the discord

#

Ah ok

#

Just wanted to check again seeing as you were around

reef patrol
#

Updates don't generally happen till about a month or so before expected shipping, once production begins.

carmine forge
#

Ok

#

And shipping is when it's shipped to me?

#

Just because I'm just interested in roughly when in April i would get mine if I ordered it

reef patrol
#

Shipping is when it leaves our warehouse.
Delivery is your doorstep.

carmine forge
#

Ah ok

#

How long has it usually been between shipping and delivery for people

reef patrol
#

Entirely depends on how far away you live from the warehouse.

carmine forge
#

Ty

#

Mine would most likely be DHL or DPD

#

Considering the UK isn't in the EU anymore so also UPS - Express Saver

reef patrol
#

Mhmm

carmine forge
#

Well ty for the help

Just need to order it now :)

I'm jealous af
My sister got this for her birthday

#

cursive summit
#

However I'm sort of done with AMD, since I've been getting into the more less optimized parts of the PC world

#

And that part just does not like AMD at all

#

Nvidia's just got so much more stability and feature creep over AMD

tribal dirge
wheat plume
#

Nah

cursive summit
#

In terms of what

#

AMD cards might as well be faster than Nvidia's if AMD wants them to be

#

It's just that Nvidia's drivers and features are getting more and more unavoidable for me, while AMD remains unoptimized

Nvidia isn't some godsend with failure-proof drivers I'm very aware

tribal dirge
cursive summit

But the sheer fact that CUDA is a must with some softwares, it's pretty sad

ashen spindle
#

How is amds Engineering worse when they have chiplet gpus now before Nvidia does lol

cursive summit
#

Hey hey, mention that again when they use more than 1 graphics die with that chiplet gpu

tribal dirge
ashen spindle
#

What reliability issue is coming from their engineering?

cursive summit
#

Reliability has got nothing to really do with hardware, just software part is where most gripes are

tribal dirge
ashen spindle
#

Ok so you are just randomly speculating

cursive summit
#

Truth be told that whole myth of bad AMD drivers is getting out of hand

#

They were pretty bad but they are solid rn

tribal dirge
#

I had issues with them on both pc and Mac alike.

cursive summit
#

I still hate the fact that I have a piece of software that I have to force use DXVK to work with AMD, or it crashes

frozen ingot
ashen spindle
#

As for manufacturing process, they currently use the same one in both amd and Nvidia gpus lol

frozen ingot
#

it isn't that amd never gets it right with the drivers, it is that they don't tend to consistently do so

cursive summit
#

Maybe if AMD got their RTG size on par with Nvidia's they could compete properly lul

ashen spindle
#

That is fair to have the expectation based on past events, but you have to include that currently they have no big issue there

#

Gotta give them a chance to be consistent at least when they are doing good

#

Also if we look only at process nodes then last gen Nvidia was way behind amd so that just makes no sense

carmine forge
#

With ABS and PBT key caps

#

Can I buy the keyboard and then replace the key caps with PBT later if/when they begin to shine too much?

ashen spindle
#

Yes

carmine forge
#

Cool

ashen spindle
carmine forge
#

Since idk how I'm going to convince my parents that "Hey, can I spend another £18 on top of the £188 for the keyboard to get better key caps?"

Can even do it by hand but keycap extractor is a better idea, however

cursive summit
tribal dirge
ashen spindle

Reverting drivers fixes it so it’s likely not windows related

now the funny thing is

it's not even amds fault but its read as if amd had a bug that caused it

windows update was not reading the installed driver correctly and breaking it if updates happend

so on amds side we have a windows update causing issue that gets put on amd, on nvidia we have a driver causing issues and people wonder if its windows fault

shows the mindset people have despite it being quite outdated for either brand xD

I love how the title for Nvidia's homepage is WORLD LEADERS IN AI

vagrant pagoda

Tesla is massive

ashen spindle

15 billion in computing 11 in graphics

mossy plinth
#

Nvidias CUDA is basically the only solution for AI stuff

vagrant pagoda
#

Because opencl sucks lol

old marlin
#

HIP

vagrant pagoda
#

Also I'm pretty sure they announced that chatgpt uses like 5000 teslas

mossy plinth
#

they recently reduced the computation required for chatgpt iirc

ashen spindle
#

well the training on chatgp was done on volta cards lol

#

so yes lots of lowering possible with current hardware

vagrant pagoda
#

My bad 30,000 of them

mossy plinth
#

The crazy thing that interests me is that their speech to text model is like half the cost of googles which is wild imo

vagrant pagoda
#

Training ai is hard

#

Better training better ai

#

And they are constantly improving

ashen spindle
#

the big secret behind chatgpt is the massive dataset

mossy plinth
#

With these AI Models they usually run it all on the GPU too and even the open source implementations will use 8gb+ of VRAM just to load an instance so presumably they run a ton of instances at much higher vram to handle all the loads.

But I could be talking out my ass

ashen spindle
#

training that takes a long time since those gpus are working well for it, but are still gpgpus not pure ai training chips

#

and inference then uses less but other hardware

oh wait

#

I was still confused about the "chatgpt uses x amount of teslas"

#

you mean nvidia tesla gpus

#

not tesla cars

vagrant pagoda
#

Lmao

#

Yes

#

But Nvidias data set for dlss is likely the largest by far

#

But it was 100Ā© automated

#

They just had games run at multiple resolutions and compared

mossy plinth
#

To further add to confusion. Teslas actually use Nvidias iirc.
I remember when I looked into portable cuda enabled hardware solutions there was mentions about Teslas using a form of the Jetson systems.

vagrant pagoda
#

Nvidia has the input and output, so the model just needs to do the intermediate spaghettification

#

I thought they moved away from Nvidia?

wheat plume

my first Android version was 4 :')

empty wren

wheat plume
#

I used that tablet a lot, cause I had a Windows phone... so any apps I couldnt get or find an alternative for, I got on my tablet instead

empty wren

I used to use tablets as well

One with android market my sister broke it

And another with android 4

wheat plume

ohh

empty wren

Tablets were okay anyways

#

Honestly what is missing on today's android tablets is the software

#

Like Samsung has dex

#

But even then having full Photoshop like ipad is would be mighty helpful in coaxing people

#

In fact all other companies mostly gave up

#

Like there are Chinese tablets out there

#

And also android boxes seemed to have died

#

Once again Chinese ones exist

#

So much of the android landscape has really changed

wheat plume
#

My friend is convinced his Google account got broken into a few weeks after he logged into a random chinese tablet

Tell them to sign you up but not start your service until your other contract expires

ashen spindle

Nah the point is you get better internet for free while tied to the old provider

Since you can’t really cancel the old one you still get the new one but don’t pay twice, if it’s better and you are ok with a longer minimum runtime that works out well

If they are some shit isp you want to leave after 6 months the cycle repeats though

tribal dirge
wheat plume

halcyon moss

for business fiber it all about stability.
no overbooking, great hardware, support

that too. static IP

which is quite expensive these days

#

at home i had a "business" connection with an IP.
but they were getting rid of that plan, and the new plans with static ips were substantially more expensive 😦

wheat plume
#

sounds about right :/

#

so their home internet is just 4G in a proper router?

#

....wow ok

#

does that router support all the same features a regular one does?

#

such as forwarding and static IPs and shit?

reef patrol
#

That entirely depends on the carrier. Probably not.

halcyon moss
#

home internet is usally static. maybe that alows them the estimate better.. but its most likely to be able to compete

reef patrol

But this is exactly what I ducking suggested you to buy further up, if you could get a second SIM šŸ˜„

#

Well yeah my next question was going to be how often do I need to lube it?

#

Like once every 6 months?

reef patrol
#

I think it's a great case of "you don't know you need it till you've tried". I was skeptical as well until I actually lubed mine. And comparing it to stock boards I've had in for RMA, it's a world of difference to me.

carmine forge

Was just curious so that I could align lubing my keyboard with when I take my desktop apart every 4-6 months

wheat plume

yes but you dont need to :P

carmine forge

And by take apart I mean just opening the tempered glass panels and cleaning dust

carmine forge
