#

koss beats them out sound wise

wheat plume
#

They also have a few choices in modelsfor them, based on Ohms

old marlin
#

and don't BOHOO SAMSUNG me

mossy plinth
#

Like sure it's replaceable parts but the DT770s price point is cheap

old marlin
mossy plinth
#

Like even with the problems, I can get a modded one for cheaper than above

old marlin
#

just at different volumes

old marlin
#

I'd much rather have AKG K371s, or even HD598s

mossy plinth
#

Which Koss do you mean? The Pro4s?

old marlin
#

ksc75 lol

#

not good for studio enviroments

solemn remnant
#

k371s so uglyl

old marlin
#

they aren't durable

old marlin
solemn remnant
#

what does it matter

old marlin
#

?

#

what does it matter that they are ugly

solemn remnant
#

buy stuff for looks obviously

old marlin
#

afraid that somebody will walk in on you listening to something in your room

wheat plume
#

SecuRiTy iS My PassIoN

#

Microsoft Azure for US Government
HAH... Does MS collect as much data on them as they do for regular consumers?

ashen spindle
#

its mostly just contractors and people who applied for clearance, not actual confidential data, those are not stored in any cloud

wheat plume
#

Yeah, and found by a white hat too

#

so that was good

solemn remnant
#

why even by studio headphones if you're not making music

mossy plinth
#

Why a wooting keyboard if you're not playing esports professionally

#

jk, it's a case of having something of high quality so you can hear it as a close to "as intended" in my opinion.

solemn remnant
#

that's a different thing tbh

#

I just bass boost everything when not mixing

old marlin
mossy plinth
#

People have different preferences and needs.

I like hearing stuff as close to as intended affordably and those studio headphones work for me.
Why not go for studio headphones?

old marlin
#

I for example am not a big fan of the "as intended" stuff

mossy plinth
#

Especially if they are the same price point as alternatives out there

solemn remnant
mossy plinth
#

I like going for "as intended" because then I can deviate stuff with an EQ if I wanted to. Rather than headphones that are already deviated from neutrality.

old marlin
solemn remnant
#

I don't have them so wouldn't know

old marlin
#

the treble ruins them imo

solemn remnant
#

for listening I just use speakers and an amp from the early 80's

old marlin
#

I mean

#

you can have decent headphones from the 80s

#

buuut

#

everything but very high end stuff is kinda bad

#

from that era

mossy plinth
#

Their treble accuracy isn't the best but finding something all round as accurate at the same price point isn't easy afaik

solemn remnant
#

top of the line stuff right here

old marlin
#

I meant for headphones

#

Speakers were already quite good back then

#

In general

vagrant pagoda
solemn remnant
#

I've fucked my eardrums by playing with a loud drummer so I don't care that much anymore

vagrant pagoda
solemn remnant
#

whoa

vagrant pagoda
#

Those are the 181

#

I'd love a pair

solemn remnant
#

they look scifi

vagrant pagoda
#

But I only have the 20s

#

I should get them out

solemn remnant
#

those would look so good in a speakeasy

vagrant pagoda
#

They made a black set in the late 80s

#

And they would be minty for a dos machine with a Roland midi swtup

reef patrol
#

I am cautiously optimistic... I think my... 5th monitor might actually have no dead pixels on arrival

mossy plinth
#

Mansen out here with the 5 monitor setup

reef patrol
#

Sadly I only have the one šŸ˜„

tame hedge
#

@reef patrol please tell me you have a GPU with 5 slots :pleadingk:

#

oh

reef patrol
#

Just went through a... lengthy warranty and return process.

tame hedge
#

What model?

mossy plinth
#

even then you don't need 5 slots for 5 monitors

#

I'd say get more than one but more monitors is a slippery slope

tame hedge
mossy plinth
#

TB?

tame hedge
#

thunderbolt

reef patrol
#

First monitor was a G34W-10 from Lenovo. It has a temper and won't always do 144hz without applying a compressed signal, causing really smeared out reds and blues.

Lenovo has attempted to swap this twice under their warranty - Both replacement monitors had a significant amount of dead pixels (mine was pristine for comparison)

Returned for a refund.

Bought an AOC monitor to replace it - Which had a dead pixel in a really inconvenient spot, so I've returned that as well.

Bought the same monitor AGAIN (Because aside from the dead pixel I actually really like it) and that's what I'm using right now.

#

So at one point I basically had three, 43" ultrawide monitor boxes stacked in my tiny office.

old marlin
#

wtf

mossy plinth
#

My GPU is really funky because it can only run one 4k monitor at 144hz and the other only at 120hz

tame hedge
#

I think that's kinda normal tbf

mossy plinth
#

and the third has to sadly be 60hz at 4k iirc

tame hedge
#

dunno why but I've seen mixed DP versions a fair bit

reef patrol
tame hedge
#

I think my GPU has 3 DP and 1 HDMI
I'm using all barring 1 DP

mossy plinth
#

The others are DP but the GPU itself couldn't really do DP at the highest standard to allow for 4k 144hz.
I think it might not even be a DP problem but a GPU problem

#

Because It's so much data being sent out

mossy plinth
#

At the end of the day I didn't mind not getting the full 144hz on the other monitors as it's only the main one I game on

#

the others is just a bonus

wheat plume
#

if you reduce the others to 60Hz, then it may work out?

#

reduce output on the others and apply full speed on main

tame hedge
mossy plinth
#

Yeah essentially

tame hedge
#

All the same model? how much did you spend lol

mossy plinth
#

I went from a RTX2080 to a RTX3090 and it didn't change anything either so I went back to the 2080

fair gull
#

@tame hedge yes MST

#

1 cable carries multiple display signals

ashen spindle
#

yes if you use DSC then nvidia cards limit your output because their display engine sucks, you cant use all ports at max speeds

#

so even on a 4090 you cant fully use the bandwith of all ports lol

mossy plinth
#

2 x 144HZ models and 1x60HZ model
Ā£160 for 4k/60hz
Ā£220~ea for 4k/144hz

tame hedge
mossy plinth
#

I use a USB HDMI card for a Cintiq which works nicely too

ashen spindle
#

When a display is connected to the GPU and is set to DSC mode, the GPU may use two internal heads to drive the display when the pixel rate needed to drive the display mode exceeds the GPU’s single head limit. This may affect your display topology when using multiple monitors. For example if two displays with support for DSC are connected to a single GeForce GPU, all 4 internal heads will be utilized and you will not be able to use a third monitor with the GPU at the same time.

fair gull
#

there monitors you can buy which support daisy chaining

#

so no need for an MST splitter

tame hedge
# fair gull dont need that

I mean yes the picture shows it being a fancy monitor that has an integrated duplicator but my question was regarding both the quantity and standardization

fair gull
#

ever since DP 1.2 its in the DP standard

#

unsure bout resolutions

tame hedge
#

I'm used to HDMI and USB :)

#

"standard? what's that - it's all a suggestion"

#

How would it work if you use one of those DP->HDMI connectors on a daisy chain?

fair gull
#

DP purely goes by datarate

#

so youd have to lookup what you wanna use

#

what DP version you have

#

and then you can see what you can attach

#

up to 60monitors or so

tame hedge
#

fair

#

oh god

#

🧐 i know my next investment'

fair gull
tame hedge
#

where we're going, we don't need wallpaper or lights!

fair gull
#

you can even use a DP to VGA id assume

fair gull
shadow minnow
#

How about DP to mipi mm

fair gull
#

just use the 10K output capability of DP

#

one big screen with a 10k res should be able to cover smallish rooms

tame hedge
#

getting 40 monitors from a junkyard would be cheaper than getting a fancy 150" TV

shadow minnow
#

Well yes

#

Some junkyards give them out for free so dogekek

tame hedge
#

exactly

shadow minnow
#

Just may not have dp

fair gull
#

so with DP2.X you could run 3 4k 120hz monitors of 1 connector

tame hedge
#

They said it'd work with a DP->HDMI connector

fair gull
#

it has roughly 77gbit/s and 4k120hz is 25gbit/s

tame hedge
#

jesus

fair gull
#

for maximum usage youd use 1080p at 60fps

tame hedge
#

yes because HDR bad tbh

fair gull
#

3.2gbit/s needed

#

you got lots more

shadow minnow
#

Issue is

#

DP 2.X on GPUs rn is the lower spec

#

That’s slower than HDMI 2.1

#

40gbps

tame hedge
#

40gbps* with an asterisk

#

(sometimes 18Gbps because HDMI is amazing)

fair gull
shadow minnow
#

Literally yes

#

Check it

tame hedge
#

wdym lower spec

shadow minnow
#

10gbps per lane

#

Instead of 20

fair gull
#

DP 2.0 and 2.1 have 77gbit/s total data rate

#

while HDMI 2.1 is at 47 or so

shadow minnow
#

If Dp2.0 / 2.1

#

I hate it

#

UBR 10, 14 and 20

#

Or UHBR

#

idk

wheat plume
#

its only 30Hz wirelessly ;-;

fair gull
wheat plume
#

"Powers" in the title means uses the display... not charges it

fair gull
#

DP2.X itself is leagues faster than HDMI

#

will most gpus saturate it?

#

doubt it

ashen spindle
#

Bexin doesn’t like DSC so he probably uses the numbers without dsc again

fair gull
#

the data rate is before compression i think

#

display port such a slow port

#

can easily do 10k uncompressed

#

the 16k with DSC i didnt even know about

#

thats dope

shadow minnow
#

The GPUs

#

From what I can find they support 13.5

halcyon moss
#

be aware. MST is not supported on OSX (or macos). but windows on a mac does support MST.

fair gull
shadow minnow
mossy plinth
#

Whilst the ports can handle these high transfers, can the GPUs themselves šŸ¤”

fair gull
#

thats the better question

shadow minnow
#

No, only UHBR 13.5 which is better than hdmi 2.1 so I was wrong too tbf

fair gull
#

id assume its a gpu limit

#

i cant imagine any GPU out there to push close to that amount of data

#

the 4090 is still 1.4 iirc

shadow minnow
#

I mean they can if you connect multiple connectors simulatenously

#

Read somewhere you can only use two DP 2.1 monitors at once

#

With the new and cards

shadow minnow
fair gull
shadow minnow
#

Hmm yeah

#

Not to all ports at once at least

fair gull
#

i imagine even on a single port

ashen spindle
#

nvidia still uses the old display engine so thats why its so limited in what they can do

shadow minnow
#

Well if they can do 54gbps on two ports, I think they could 80 on one

fair gull
#

the gbit/s depend on res and refresh rate

shadow minnow
#

Nvidia cards used to be limited to two hdmi 2.1s but most companies provide just one

shadow minnow
fair gull
#

as in verified or theoretical

#

did someone connect 2 beasts of a monitor and pump it to the limit

shadow minnow
#

I wonder

#

Not many if any dp2.1 displays out yet

fair gull
#

cause i doubt a gpu can push 50gbit/s of rendered images to a port

shadow minnow
#

Well it can 48

#

For just one

#

From what I tested

#

Didn’t test more too

#

That was hdmi 2.1 4k 144 hdr no compression

fair gull
#

nvidia is high or smth expecting people to pay those prices

shadow minnow
#

Yeah nvidia rn has oof pricing very oof

fair gull
#

didnt know they moved nvidia HQ to amsterdams best coffee shop

ashen spindle
#

I mean, convince wooting that you need a 4090 to do ML training to get better clicks on the website and problem solved

fair gull
#

lol

mossy plinth
ashen spindle
#

since the display engine only has 4 ports and is the same since turing or pascal iirc

mossy plinth
#

It all worked out in the end though

#

Just took a bunch of debugging

ashen spindle
#

which you shouldn't need to do, the cards can do the power, just not the output

mossy plinth
#

any additional monitor just gets the USB GPU treatment now

shadow minnow
ashen spindle
#

which is fine since there you have higher bandwidth per port

#

you dont have the issue there that 1.4+dsc uses 2 ports

shadow minnow
#

I think 2.1 does use two too

#

Or I saw that on google but didn’t check so may be wrong

wheat plume

LG and Ultrawide are all I know

ashen spindle

probably some 5k ips screen with horrible latency

wheat plume

and that its a few years old

astral haven

considering its ultrawide its probably 3440x1440 not 5k

its so clean looking, I like it

is it even a good screen? doesnt even meantion refresh rate on the lg site

astral haven

ashen spindle

thought so

wheat plume

but hes using it for video / photography so it must have pretty good colors and whatnot

it really doesnt lel

I miss my ultrawide

astral haven

it was really nice for some games and especially for coding and having a browser open on the side

astral haven

just get a larger higher res monitor for cheaper and use an app to split up the screen or something

#

its oos right now but i bought this bby

wheat plume

Im so tempted to get a fucking desk that isnt shit like this one
So I can actually use my monitor mount an get more desk space back

#

hmm, I got 2 1080s rn... I dont really need higher res tbh

why you not got Ark for archives? @pale sigil

its made for Plasma

pale sigil

thats a Gnome desktop app

pale sigil

Reeeeeeee

wheat plume

Did you have Gnome desktop and later install Plasma?

pale sigil

No

wheat plume

then wtf

#

what distro?

#

oh wait, you also installed another desktop

you tried Hyprland... so it must have installed that archive manager also

wheat plume

getting some graphical glitches on screen

ashen spindle

if its glitches and not tearing that setting shouldn't change anything

#

unless it does something else than it says I guess?

wheat plume
#

it could be caused by tearing

#

the lines look like tear lines but thicker idk

crimson wigeon
#

Far as I know literally nothing supports the protocol to request tearing yet, so that one doesn't do anything

pale sigil
#

me desktop looks ass

wheat plume

wat

ashen spindle

huh?

#

especially compared to the trash ones from Gnome

oh boi

astral haven

that looks awful lmao

crimson wigeon

True

wheat plume

The notifications you get for downloading and long transfers are so much nicer

astral haven

the spacing around the text is nowhere near sufficient, the icons look like they came from different icon packs
the image doesnt have any border
the logo doesnt have symmetrical spacing around it

wheat plume
#

what you think of this one? xd

astral haven
#

its slightly better

wheat plume
#

here is the smaller version of it

astral haven

still fix text spacing

yeah, more padding maybe

since TAP went to intel they sorta abandoned it and havent done anything new

old marlin
#

what you gain with the DW is VERY marginal

#

and it is QUITE A BIT cheaper

sharp badger
#

Yes that's what i've kinda gathered about it

old marlin
#

eh

#

even then

ashen spindle
#

if you have an amd gpu, dwf no question asked, if you have an nvidia card might want to check if the prices are close for your region

old marlin
#

with the DW you are tied to nvidia cards for the next few years if you don't wanna sell your monitor and use adaptive sync

#

you get a whole 10hz more wowee

#

and uhh

#

rgb

ashen spindle
#

g sync is still better than free sync though

old marlin
#

and price gap is what

#

like 20%?

sharp badger

DW 1239€ vs DWF 1149€ so it's 90€ difference šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

old marlin
#

yea nvm then

gusty kiln

but if you're shopping for this type of monitor, you def have a GPU that provides more than 75 fps in most situation

Where did you see that? It's 48hz - 165hz freesync range, not 75hz.

I'm not seeing a benefit of gsync ultimate over my freesync monitors, ignoring the better HDR tone mapping that has been reported I can't see an actual improvement.

You get higher latency on gsync version and still VRR flicker, what is the gsync advantage for it? (Asking in general as I've yet to see it)

despite sony being the biggest of conglomerates, they have insanely good repairability

yep

only problem is they are expensive and on paper worse than samsung

empty wren
#

I mean the camera stuff probably is better

astral haven

unfortunatly not :/

empty wren
#

Really now

astral haven
#

samsung makes the better small sensors, and sony is awful at stock processing

#

also sony bses about their sensors

#

sony: "same sensor as a camera with a 1 inch sensor"
reviewers: its the middle 12 megapixels of a 20 megapixel sensor, and when you remove those 8 megapixels around the outside its actually a smaller sensor than a standard phone sensor

empty wren
#

Just wait for the Google store sale or whatever

astral haven
#

also extremely consistently not the best lel

#

you havent spent enough time peeping iphone images lel

#

my work phone is an iphone and i use it alooooot for documentation and its pain

extremely basic well lit shots it still manages to blur sometimes

empty wren

It was stated the newer iPhones are using processing that overdoes

also especially if you arent Caucasian

empty wren

and while samsung generally doesnt win, they are almost always near the top, and ive never seen a pic of mkbhd look bad from one (of the flagships that is)

empty wren

Just use a Polaroid in the shadows mm

astral haven

that surprises me tbh

#

what are you taking pics of?

the only options for that are the ultra chinese and samsung

empty wren

If only moment still made pixel lens cases

empty wren
astral haven
empty wren

Well they must be doing some great processing then

astral haven

and yet noone has gotten even close besides huawei i think it was?

astral haven
empty wren

Huawei also faked the moonmm

astral haven

yea and samsung didnt need to lel

empty wren
astral haven
#

i use it for reading text really far away, and the tests i did at best buy it ended up worse

empty wren
#

Interesting

astral haven
#

maybe with less zoom it has more chance to process?

#

the main camera is no contest btw

#

that 200mp sensor is a beast

#

and the 50mp mode is excellent

empty wren
#

Oppo find x(since 2) and Asus Zenfone(since 8)also have some nice processing opinion

#

Not a fan of Samsung's personally

astral haven
#

the problem is that noone else is anywhere near as much zoom

empty wren
#

Yeah sadly just samsung

#

I remember when Huawei showed off the night mode

#

And it was crazy cool

astral haven

i just bought a nice external ir camera

i paid $350 for mine lel

Imagine ASUS or ASrock sending you a box of like 6-9 motherboards a week before they all released, asking you to review them. Review... motherboards. Those things notorious for being completely irrelevant to pick between except price and number of connections. Real struggle to write a couple of pages that aren't just rewritten copy/pasted sentences saying nothing with pretty macro photos in between šŸ˜„

My x58 has a dongle you can plug into the tpm port

#

That gives you post code

Post codes haven't gone anywhere yet but the price to get a board with one has risen. One of the reasons I bought this Z690 board

TIl you can get around Windows AppLocker by simply moving the EXE file into a folder inside C:\Windows

if a hacker has access to your pc so that they can move the exe elsewhere and then start it, I dont think applocker is what should protect you there

fair gull
#

also that

#

so i watched the video and quite literally had to tell the browser to keep the file that was flagged as bad

I don't understand technical stuff like this well, so I'll ask here; will any of the keyboard features be unavailable to me if I plug it into my monitor and then my laptop?

ashen spindle
#

if the monitor kvm has sufficent bandwith/speed that should work just fine

#

since most are usb3 that should work

#

couldn't tell you for certain though

#

works with my external kvm, with some cheaper ones it doesnt etc.

earnest viper
#

Very cool, thank you

fair gull
#

the keyboard operates at sub usb2 speeds

#

like usb 1.2 or something

ashen spindle
#

well I was more thinking about bandwith when using multiple devices on the kvm, not if its the board alone

When'll Sony pull an Apple and start investing in its own silicon

ashen spindle

when they want to financially go bankrupt for no reason

Doesn’t don’t make some silicone?

Doesn't don't?

Sony sells enough volume though to warrant cheaper units and therefore more profits by investing into own silicone

#

It's not Nintendo levels of units sold but still in high tens of millions

ashen spindle
#

ah yes, the strat to invest billions to save a few millions

cursive summit
#

I mean, depending on how much they would be saving, it'd earn them hundreds of millions extra, potentially
