Yes that is useful

crisp granite
#

this is smol PC

ashen spindle
#

wtf you putting int here that 750 is not enough?

shadow minnow
#

I wanted to design a smol pc case before market got too flooded and GPUs got too big

crisp granite
shadow minnow
#

I wish I got different fans for my pc

shadow minnow
astral haven
shadow minnow
#

No rbg

crisp granite
#

what is the problem with them?

shadow minnow
#

No bgr

astral haven
#

extremely loud for the airflow

crisp granite
shadow minnow
#

Unlike me

crisp granite
astral haven
#

gets absolutely decimated by the arctic p12s at everything except max rpm

crisp granite
#

they go brrr

astral haven
#

and if you want airflow get the thickbois

#

i forget their name

crisp granite
shadow minnow
#

Trying to hide screaming of people in your basement? @crisp granite

crisp granite
#

you mean even thicker?
won't fit the case

astral haven
#

yea the 35mm from whowever

final flame
#

Fill a case with only the 140s airflow for days

astral haven
#

as an ippc owner i would highly recommend against them

crisp granite
#

should I get P12 Reduxes instead?

astral haven
#

highly recommended

crisp granite
#

for half the price, I'd fuckin hope so

astral haven
#

both quieter and very similar airflow

sharp badger
#

Read some article/tweet that the 7800X3D would run faster than the 7950X3D? Is it because of the clocks?

crisp granite
astral haven
#

theres a 30 or 35mm fan that is signficantly better and not that expensive

astral haven
#

you sure?

crisp granite
#

very sure

sharp badger
#

T30's would be the choice then

crisp granite
#

mini ITX build, sandwich style, 12L case

astral haven
#

30mm is not that much more than 25

misty saffron
crisp granite
#

it'll fit a staggering 1 120mm fan that isn't a CPU heatsink

crisp granite
final flame
#

These ones?

crisp granite
#

no

#

noctua P12 Reduxes

astral haven

final flame
#

Idk anymore

astral haven
#

wait you arent using this for a radiator?

shadow minnow
#

Arctic fans are great value

crisp granite
#

no

shadow minnow
#

Also their coolers

crisp granite
#

no AIO mounts on this case

final flame
#

Personally I'm just going to use them as case fans

crisp granite
#

AIRFLOW is the goal

astral haven
#

yea then the arctic reduxes are useless

crisp granite
#

I'm talking about these

#

Noctua

#

P12

#

Redux

astral haven

#

noctua redux will be useless for you

arctic p12 has 2 versions, regular and co version, co version is slightly higher speed and lower noise but more spensiv

pale sigil
#

I'm not fussed if I nuke my OS

crisp granite
astral haven
#

about half the price last i checked

final flame
#

So the Artics are only good for radiators?

astral haven
#

the reduxes are only good for radiators

final flame
#

What would you say is the best fan just for only airflow, not cfm pressure

astral haven
#

pfc1212de

crisp granite

within a 25mm form factor?

astral haven

ew

final flame

Is it just me or does the thermaltake fans look like they're doing the anime blushing

astral haven

its just you

sharp badger
#

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ex_Dpe7ZxaA Here's a test on a few fans , Unrestricted/Free Flow/Radiator CFM

The claim is a real one: this is supposed to be the best fan for PC cases, radiators and heatsinks. There's some impressive airflow here to hit the best possible temperatures but is the Silent Wings PRO 4 actually the best fan for static pressure AND airflow?

Buy items in this video from Amazon at the links below:

shadow minnow
#

Is it jut me or do thermaltake products look like they are shamelesssly copying other companies thonk

reef patrol
#

You mean Thermalfake? The company dubbed thus because they have historically copied every design ever?

shadow minnow
#

Someone was doing rpm normalized fan tasting for a while. Like, how does that make any, any sense

crisp granite
reef patrol
crisp granite
#

45 CAD per

#

...ok

#

I'll take the noctuas

#

for no real difference in air cooling performance, it ain't worth the hassle

astral haven
#

anything but the ippcs is fine

final flame
#

It makes sense just another thing to consider

shadow minnow
#

But it’s useless to know really

#

And it was testing done on the same motor

#

Of different designs of fans

#

Rpm % would maybe make sense

astral haven
#

you set rpm in many bioses

shadow minnow
#

But rpm number is just stupid imo

reef patrol
#

Not really.

shadow minnow
#

Yes but for testing it tells nothing, rpm normalized is useless

astral haven
#

it tells you exactly how to get the same results

shadow minnow
#

Different designs run different speeds with same motor

shadow minnow
astral haven
#

not in asus bios

reef patrol
#

You can set either in most BIOSes

astral haven
#

^

final flame
#

The best fan would be the one which would be able to output more at the same rpm, thus reducing noise and giving more headroom for more performance

shadow minnow
#

Still it was testing of fan sent designs

#

So again useless

astral haven
#

noise normalized is significantly better

shadow minnow
astral haven
#

but rpm normalizing isnt useless

fair gull
shadow minnow
#

Or temperature normalized

#

Or rpm% normalized

fair gull
#

bexin prob means this guy

shadow minnow
#

Yes

astral haven
#

temp normalized is useless

final flame
#

Not really useless

astral haven
shadow minnow
#

To test rpm

astral haven
#

they need to make the testing fast because they test dozens of fans per month

#

and they cant do noise normalized because many of the fans are too loud even at minimum rpm

shadow minnow
#

Well do rpm % normalized

astral haven
#

why?

shadow minnow
#

But some designs maxed out at 1600 some 3000

#

In that video

#

And you don’t know

astral haven
#

he uh measures it...

fair gull
#

ya

#

rpm normalized is by far the most sensicle measurement

astral haven
#

for actual consumer fans, noise normalized makes sense bc none of them are too loud to noise normalize lel

fair gull
#

ya i meant the videos on yt

#

of that channel

astral haven
#

yep just explaining for bexin

shadow minnow
#

I don’t get why wouldn’t rpm% make more sense

astral haven
#

because that would change the rpm tested

#

then you would be normalizing exactly nothing

shadow minnow
#

It would be normalizing performance at fraction of speed

astral haven
#

nope

shadow minnow
#

Unlike rpm normalized which for one design may be 90% speed and 20% for another

astral haven
#

you mean pwm% i assume right?

fair gull
#

even that is questionable

sharp badger
#

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1krod5WCRA9PijKeDGPNNzWeh4sUpfwxWvQXdGxmh1CM/edit This is how their testing methodology is. Can always comment and suggest that they'd add more testing to it

pale sigil
#

does having a few partitions fuck with drive perf

astral haven
#

It can

pale sigil
#

for some reason my windows install is slow suddenly even with downloading.

astral haven
#

How much free space?

sharp badger
#

I bought T30s way before their testing started and very happy with them

pale sigil
#

😂

#

on the os partition

astral haven
#

That's not enough

pale sigil
#

thats why im trying to extend rn

astral haven
#

So fix that first then complain about performance if it's still a problem after lel

pale sigil
#

ohits because its taking 10 min to download gpart

#

hahahahah

#

i have 500 down

#

and its not the server since my cousin insta downloads too

astral haven
#

So that 8gb of free space probably has a bunch of files in it
Run the system cleanup program

pale sigil
#

its my network

#

causing slow download

#

or well packet drops

vagrant pagoda
pale sigil
#

Ye......

pale sigil
#

gparty no let me

#

Lame

pale sigil
#

cant even change partition order

reef patrol
#

That WOULD require copying the entire partition to another drive, then wipe it, then overwrite the space with one of the other ones (also copied) bit by bit.

#

It's a logical harddrive, it's like trying to take parts of a vinyl record and rearranging them.

astral haven
#

thats not quiiiite true
a partition can be moved by basically rotating the data around, as long as theres enough free space somewhere on the drive

#

you only need 4k (or whatever your block size is) of free space technically

pale sigil
#

hahha if i wasn't duel booting id be fine

reef patrol
pale sigil
#

this is annoying

#

i did not think this through

#

i could clone my os

astral haven
pale sigil
#

tbf

astral haven
#

also on an ssd you dont need to do any of this

pale sigil
#

any tips

astral haven
#

there are programs that just directly do what you want

pale sigil
#

because ie like to avoid

#

gpart wont work

astral haven
#

i paid for macrium reflect but im sure there are free alternatives

#

the important part is booting off of another drive

pale sigil
#

in terms of data i have nothing to lose but i do not wish to re install

#

and my Linux distro should be safe

astral haven
#

why cant you fix the problem while booted into linux?

pale sigil
#

just not given me the option

astral haven
#

so you are booted into linux and looking at gparted and its not giving you the option?

pale sigil
#

correct

astral haven
#

what exactly are you trying to do?

pale sigil
#

says resize/move

#

but i cant do either

astral haven
#

think of the partitions as being on a rail
you can only move them left or right, and they cant move past each other

pale sigil
#

so ye im screwed]

astral haven
#

why?

pale sigil
#

Linux is second

astral haven
#

slide d to the right

#

then slide linux to the right

pale sigil
#

i cant

astral haven
#

boot into linux

pale sigil
#

sec ill show you

astral haven
#

it only lets you do 1mb?

pale sigil
#

YE

#

oops caps

#

well

#

333mb

#

but that just seems to shrink

astral haven
#

interesting

#

well i did it without issue using macrium, but there are probably other software packages that do it for free

vagrant pagoda
pale sigil
#

me wallpaper on my ipad too

#

honestly i just love the char/art so much

vagrant pagoda
#

You have to put g parted in unsafe mode to move the nTFS

pale sigil
#

oh

#

how

vagrant pagoda
#

It's an option

#

I forget what it's calldd

#

But livecds start with it in that mode

#

You can't move p5?

astral haven
#

apparently can only move it 333mb to the right?

pale sigil
#

i cant move anything

#

that was shrinking

#

also how do i access that mode

astral haven
#

you shrink the left side by however much you want and expand the right side by that much

astral haven
#

the whole drive
so basically you need to boot to another os

pale sigil
#

oh

#

i can do that

#

my internet is so shit rn

pale sigil
#

My windows install is fucked

#

Hope it's my install and not this drive lmao

pale sigil
#

@Carmonben#6335 still can't move it

#

@astral haven

astral haven
#

you unmounted it?

pale sigil
#

Ye

#

I'm running off usb atm

astral haven
#

rats
well i dunno 🤷

pale sigil
#

Sigh

#

Oh well I guess

astral haven
#

macrium has a free trial

pale sigil
#

I tried

#

I couldn't find anything on that

#

It just shows backup

astral haven
#

you install the software, then use it to make a bootable usb

pale sigil
#

Eh

#

Mirror?

astral haven
#

what

#

mirror clones a drive to another

pale sigil
#

Oh which software do I need

astral haven
#

macrium

pale sigil
#

Sorry I meant reflect

#

I have that installed

astral haven
#

ye
use it to make a portable environment usb

pale sigil
#

astral haven
#

ye

pale sigil
astral haven
#

pale sigil
#

It's failimg

#

Shall I just do the boot menu thing?....

astral haven
#

pale sigil
#

I think my install is just outright fucked

#

Right

#

Making it now

#

What exactly is this doing?

#

Linux distro with reflect on?

astral haven
#

its windows actually

#

windows portable edition

pale sigil
#

Right well, I'll boot it.

astral haven
#

and it has a custom version of the software that can basically do whatever

pale sigil
#

But I feel like this won't fix my os issue

astral haven
#

it probably wont

pale sigil
#

Or could idk, it's being funky af

#

Worth a try I guess

astral haven
#

your windows has to be working for it to help

pale sigil
#

Right I'm in

#

Still only see backup

astral haven
#

first you need to move the partition to get the free space next to the windows partition

#

then commit changes and probably reboot?

pale sigil
#

How do I move lol

#

Dragging doesn't do anything

astral haven
#

checkmark only the partition you want to move and it should give you options

pale sigil
#

All I got is analyze partition

#

Image sorry

astral haven
#

other tasks?

pale sigil
astral haven
#

no checkmark the linux partition

#

move it

pale sigil
#

Still the same

astral haven
#

well im stumped

pale sigil
#

Fuck it

#

Re install it is

#

Oh I think the trial doesn't include it

#

Oh

#

#

astral haven

pale sigil
#

I hate windows

astral haven
#

You did this to yourself

pale sigil
#

Ik

#

;-;

astral haven
#

Now I don't know why following the same steps I took to move stuff around isn't working for you but you still gotta admit this wouldn't have happened if you had partitioned your drive right in the first place

pale sigil
#

Something funky is going on with my network

#

Iso downloads are super slow

#

Nah idk because when I download from Google it's fine

#

So strange

#

Screw it

#

I'm going bed

#

Live and learn....

#

Prob 80gb for windows like I do vms lol

#

Didn't think it would fill up so fast man

#

I Jane nothing on there but launchers and browsers.

#

Ideally I'll fix partition order too

final flame
#

okay crazy story but, A friend of mine was having issues with their explorer task constantly crashing on windows 11
He did a clean install of windows 11
issue went away but for some reason his data on a external ssd got corrupted
I was showing him a way to return the windows 10 context menu and taskbar
the program I showed caused the explorer task to do the same thing
I had him restore the pc with system restore
fixed the explorer issue, and somehow fixed the external ssd corruption

Idk wtf happened anymore, how does this happen

#

this don't make sense

#

if any of ya'll have any ideas

pale sigil
#

@reef patrol I'm ok to use isopropyl on a gpu to clean right

reef patrol
#

Sure? As long as there's no plexi covers or anything.

pale sigil
reef patrol
#

Yeah that's fine.

#

Could use a soft toothbrush and scrub it a bit if the dust is stuck

pale sigil
#

Don't really have a spare toothbrush

#

So I'll use qtips

fair gull
#

those work eonderfully

#

ofc only ones never used for make up

#

so no stuff in the bristles

#

soft synthetic bristle paint brushes also work really well

tribal dirge
reef patrol
#

Eh... I use a toothbrush to scrape things loose. If a brush that soft was enough I wouldn't need a brush in the first place 😄

fair gull
#

ud be surprised how nit stuck that dust is

tribal dirge
fair gull
#

lol esd safe is smth ive never been concerned about with modern electronics

#

especially after linus and electromboom made a video

tribal dirge
#

You still run the risk of killing a component

ashen spindle
#

yeah for something like a gpu backplate any brush is fine if you dont brush it while the pc is running lol

tribal dirge
#

Sure, more likely than not it will just discharge via the ground connections on the pcb, but there is still a risk.

ashen spindle
#

you would need to be super charged or super bad humidity for it, then happen to hit a part that cant deal with it

#

which is, uh, probably as likely as cosmic ray killing it

fair gull
#

heres how you clean your shit, touch earth in your wall socket or touch an unpainted room heater surface, clean, be happy

tribal dirge
ashen spindle
#

yes and not just any amount but a heavy amount of charge and the wrong spot

tribal dirge
fair gull
#

id wager ram sticks have less protection than a gpu

tribal dirge
#

If they had a connection to ground completing a circuit the chances of a failure happening would increase. Because now it can form a complete circuit.

fair gull
#

what do you mean isolated lol

#

they grounded it on purpose

#

if it was isolated it wouldnt even jump over

tribal dirge
#

No, it would behave like a capacitor

#

With the smallest capacitance

fair gull
#

never heard of that but sure. anyway its purposefully grounded, they go over the entire connector row and turn up the voltage a few times

tribal dirge
#

Hmm, interesting

fair gull
#

modern components are increasingly resistant to ESD

tribal dirge
#

Well, then again, the connections to ground are usually the lowest resistance, rather than through the ICs and circuits.

#

And electricity always takes the easiest path to complete a circuit.

fair gull
#

so

#

no issue with ESD

tribal dirge
#

So the chances are very slim

#

Idk sometimes I panic for no reason. HAHAHAHA

fair gull
#

and seeing how in 8 years of building, repairing and cleaning PCs in my old job i never broke smth with ESD id say its highly unlikely

#

now if we talk fluids close to electronics

#

now u got me panicing

Assuming you mean keycaps get SA sculpted, mt3o or KAT keycaps. All of them are tall and each row is sculpted so you will be less prone to hitting the row above.

#

Avoid any cheap SA knockoffs for $30 they are not sculpted in the right places and are mostly row 3.

AMD Ryzen 9 7900X3D Game Optimizations AMD discloses new features in the new chipset drivers. AMD Ryzen 7000X3D processors equipped with 3D V-Cache will automatically optimize performance depending on a workload. ashen spindle

they are disabling the non v cache ccd on it

#

so yea

reef patrol
#

What a time to be alive. CPUs specifically for sim games 😄

#

We've been craving these for decades.

ashen spindle
#

it also beats basically everything else in other games

#

this is just the extreme

vagrant pagoda
#

But I went from 30 to 60 XD

ashen spindle
#

but for just gaming its best to wait for the 7800x3d it seems

vagrant pagoda
#

Rim world has been my best improvement

ashen spindle
#

as was expected

vagrant pagoda
#

Old saves that were unplayable even on x1 speed

#

Could be played at x3

vagrant pagoda
#

Marginally

#

Because it has higher clocks on the 3dcache ccd

#

If the leaks are right

ashen spindle
#

we'll see

vagrant pagoda
#

It's 100mhz bumbs

ashen spindle
#

if its not locked pbo can just equal that out

vagrant pagoda
#

So 7800x3d will be 200mhz slower

vagrant pagoda
ashen spindle
#

we dont know yet

vagrant pagoda
#

You can OC the non cache ccx though

ashen spindle
#

yes but on the lower parts you might be able to get it up to the 7950x speeds

vagrant pagoda
#

The 7950x3d is locked on the 3d cache ccx

ashen spindle
#

delidded it looks the same huh

#

so direct die will work just as well xD

pale sigil
#

That 5800x3d though

vagrant pagoda
ashen spindle
#

makes sense I guess

vagrant pagoda
#

The most insane thing is

vagrant pagoda
#

The 7950x3d draws 1/2 the power compared to the i9 13900k

#

150 vs 300w

#

So if AMD can make more durable 3dvcache, it would absolutely decimate intel

#

Because it's 100w under even the 7950x

pale sigil
#

5800x3d still blowing me away

vagrant pagoda
#

Yeah

#

Cache rules everything around me

pale sigil
#

Like honestly

ashen spindle
#

the 7900x3d still confuses me

pale sigil

My upgrade path would be 5800x3d

If I got on offer

#

Haha

#

On a semi related note

ashen spindle
pale sigil
#

Lol

vagrant pagoda
#

7950 and 7800 use the same stacked ccx

ashen spindle
#

I guess

vagrant pagoda
#

7900 has disabled cores

ashen spindle
#

but that seems soo unlikely to me that they damage it but rest still works, they failure rate should not be high enough to make an entire additional sku

#

unless that is just going to be low supply at all times

vagrant pagoda
#

That is how they binn chips fam

#

Always has been

#

And it isn't completely non working

ashen spindle
#

yeah but they also never had a 5600x3d and surely they had damaged 5800x3ds too

vagrant pagoda
#

It's normally just that core can't do the right frequency or voltage target

#

Back in the phenom 2 days you could unlock x3 and x2 cpus to qauds

fair gull
vagrant pagoda
#

But you'd need a ton of volts to make them reach stock clocks

#

Same with unlockable gpus

ashen spindle
#

I know, but failure rates of anything cpu is so much lower than it was back then

vagrant pagoda
#

No it isn't

wheat plume
#

this is getting ridiculous .-.

vagrant pagoda
#

Literally amds main reason for going to chiplet was lower yields

ashen spindle
#

also surely they can test it before they add vcache if it even hits the targets for that

vagrant pagoda
misty saffron
#

how

#

why

pale sigil
vagrant pagoda

vagrant pagoda

just saw

l1linux isnt dead

astral haven
#

I am so very disappointed with it ngl

#

Can't even beat the 13900k in the mean game

#

Except Intel is still holding the performance crown with a tech deficit and a much worse system architecture

gusty kiln
#

I can see the 7800X3d be really popular with high end ITX builds

#

super efficient

astral haven
#

Definetly not lel

#

At least not for gaming

#

Intel is just so much more configurable

gusty kiln
#

What's the averages from all the gaming results

#

On that site

astral haven
#

Yep it basically depends on the games you test
And btw frametimes aren't always better

#

Making me more and more hype for z790 overclocking

vagrant pagoda
astral haven
#

I'm planning on going for the glueless variant

#

20 cores probably maybe 24

#

I think the glue will actually noticeably decrease gaming perf

vagrant pagoda
#

the 13900 uses 300w and the 13700k 280w to barely beat the 150w x3d 😛

#

cant imagine SR is going to be that much better

astral haven
#

Ah but those figures are entirely wrong for gaming

vagrant pagoda
#

i mean thats GN's blender test

astral haven
#

Not to say that they are efficient, but not a single processor gets over 150w in games

vagrant pagoda
#

which the 7950x and 3d destroy the i9 in

#

considing the power difference

#

10% faster with half the power

astral haven
#

5% slower you mean

vagrant pagoda
#

no

astral haven
#

Yes

vagrant pagoda
#

the x3d is faster than the i9 in blender

astral haven
#

Blender is useless

#

My 3090 is probably 5x faster for 2x the power it's no competition

vagrant pagoda
#

its a very consistant multicore load

astral haven
#

And a 4090 is another 2x faster for 300w

astral haven
#

There is a difference

vagrant pagoda
#

also there are a few effects that gpu wont do in blender

astral haven
#

Look amd is alot more efficient
But while it is faster in blender, it is slower in games

astral haven
vagrant pagoda
#

no it isnt

#

you cant do any fluid simulations in blender with gpus

astral haven
#

Blender fluid simulations are terrible

vagrant pagoda
#

thats even worst than the blender test

#

lol

astral haven
#

And you can do the sim in Houdini gpu

vagrant pagoda
#

x3d is half the i7 and 1/3 of the i9

#

lol

astral haven
#

Houdini ce can export to blender

astral haven
vagrant pagoda
#

i think amd will get better at x3d voltages before intel can catch up on power

astral haven
#

Well there's another problem too

#

Idle

#

Amd platform idle is pain

vagrant pagoda
astral haven
#

9900k clocked to 5ghz allcore (with turbo enabled) consumed 90w at the wall
5950x stock consumes 120w at the wall

#

Straight swap

vagrant pagoda

soulds like fuckity bios

astral haven

Finally Numa on amd causes trouble in vr sometimes

vagrant pagoda

if i remove my usb devices i get ~35w idle

vagrant pagoda

no like vender stuff
