Nissian leaf?
batteries are mostly made of cobalt, lithium, and graphite
People are trying to figure out how to remove primarily cobalt since that's the most expensive part. Sulphur would be ideal, but Lithium-Sulphur batteries tend to swell a lot.
though I have heard that using Sodium-Sulphur might be an option
Maybe if resources got put more into granite batteries
Could get larger batteries then or less heavy ones for more range
One of the more wacky ideas that might be super good is aluminium-air batteries. Don't even need to carry the oxidiser with you
I imagine trucks might rely on aluminium-air batteries simply because charging a semi would be a nightmare, and you can easily stow the batteries on the trailer.
It would be even better
If batteries were removed from the equation for the most part
Just would need expensive road reconstruction
But say you go the campyard
Smaller battery engages
Then when you get back in the road it charges up again
And turns off
Anywho there was a video talking about how charging a Tesla semi truck would cuck the grid in California

Not Honda
😵💫
Does it make any sense to even use that
Because what is the upside remind me please of the rotary engine

This sounds more to show off as I thought
Correct me if I am wrong
Like still cool
Well if they ever fix efficiency
Could be interesting
Well even one to me seems like a bad idea
Two is 😵💫
Maybe it is efficient for what they are doing I do not know, I am not a engine expert

Mazda designed an amazing rotary engine it used in its sports cars
Problem was that as good as the engine was it still underperformed compared to a normal piston engine. Sounded cool when reving tho
oof
Mmm yes drive it harder
@empty wren don't think i didn't catch that
Aye you came too late to use a dumb furry gif
IRC The rotary engine had to be discontinued because it was impossible to meet emission standard with them, since by design they burn a crap tonne more oil then piston cars.
Here is a fantastic review of one of their older cars
https://youtu.be/xAkJYnxFYJQ
Air goes round round round round and I'm going to tell you have a Wankel engine works weather you like it or not!
When electric cars become the norm the rotary engine will be the norm combustion
16 times the emissions
Also apparently Mazda used the Rotary engine's vague displacement to cheat in races. Because no one could agree on exactly how much displacement a rotary engine had Mazda could put a much larger engine their race cars then what would be allowed with a piston engine
Damn at least the car is useful for something I guess
Too bad it aint fall yet
Some neighbors burn leaves
Lol
we could be burning trash instead of oil for fuel smh my head
Use the car to kill yourself in the garage faster
Concept: ethanol powered carriages
Where the ethanol is used to power the horses pulling the carriage
Yooo I got an idea
You know how people burn rubber in the garage
Some should stopwatch that with rotary engine
Energize hear me out HYDROGEN FUEL CELL
Why not use a marker and do it by full revolution
Oh
Okay then

So a motor hooligan
Okay then

Ah yes haha

2TB RDIMM 💸
GOOD NEWS??
SUSAN LEFT YOUTUBE
Bad news, new CEO apparently is web 3 bs supporter
My server has 3.2tb of DDR5 ECC.
Crunching Big Data.
3.2tb of rdimms or unbuffered
Unbuffered
so a lot cheaper than the 2tb that board would need xD
No, it’s 425 usd per stick

and rdimms of the same size are cheaper for you?
It’s what they had at the time, couldn’t find any rdimm variants at the time.
pretty sure rdimms are still more expensive to get so the 2tb could still be more since you can only used buffered sticks on it
True
Discover got SSSOOOOOO MUCH better looking in 5.27
its no longer a list of apps with missing icons all over the place
and was replaced with another person who’s been in management for years
do you really expect change?
for the better, that is
seems horrible for your wrist
You know how Quantum Computing is the next generation of regular computing?
That implies than Non Binary is the next generation of humanity!!
cause Quantum Computing goes beyond binary!
#DailyLanaShitposting
Flawed logic
Humans aren’t getting the same “next generation” experience
Nothing is fundamentally changing other than people becoming stupid
Speaking of quantum computing, I’ve Mande quantum functions before in Qskit.
Using IBM’s quantum composer.
i know you’re shitposting but quantum computing really isn’t the next generation
it’s a separate thing
Yeah aren't Quantum Computers all about doing one specific task really, really efficient and fast? Takes forever to change the operational task every time you want to make them do something else.
Ohno
Laaame I want fancy colors
Time to bug Eric about Nitro 😛
I have Nitro though
Guess it's a rolling release.

You only just got it?
I've been sub since day 1
Just wish it didn't lose the progress because of a two month gap
The nobs
I don't have it at all - Don't have nitro rn. Never knew this was a feature.
Doe Rhythmbox have a QT interface now?!
its following my Plasma Color scheme and Window Tint

you can use spotify to play local files
Yes, you store local files.
I know but it sucks
^
That's very much GTK design right there
it does not worth it
Personally I use musicbee too bad there isn't a Linux version
I wanna invest in a super strong WiFi network so I can stream without 0 issues stuff like air link and moonlight
Moonlight seems fine at 150mb/s but it can be iffy at times
it cant be.....Other GTK apps on my laptop do not follow the Plasma desktor accent color or window tint I have applied
but Rhythmbox is.
and idk why or how
without 0 issues
hmmm
LOL
anyway, unlikely since just some packet loss and be really bad and happen even on solid connections
thats why Game Cloud Streaming is bad on really good connections, cause as soon as a packet is lost, the streaming service is like "oh, time to drop the quality and increase compression"
Pleasant why wouldn't you just wire it? 😂
maybe when wifi 7 with all optinal stuff is solid that could work
or maybe another wifi generation
wifi 6e is already good enough on the 6ghz channels
Get some pet sharks with laser beams on their heads
maybe, the walls I have just have too much steel for me to confident the signal is strong enough lol
not like I could really test it though, only thing I have is a quest 2 and the wiif is shit when using air link with it
doesnt matter how strong the signal is as long as the noise level is low enough
lte receive power is fine down to the picowatts, wifi can survive with nanowatts
and the 6ghz spectrum isnt that noisy yet
I wonder if wooting 60he will ever be forever in stock. If you get what i mean. No more pre orders.
Just out of stock and in stock
yes that is the plan
I assume the issues are that they need more factories or machines?
They said something about it in a product update long ago or in a video
Ah they need more manufacturing slots then?
its a mix, at one point the components were not in stock for them to make more, then they need to have the money to pre produce more stock than is ordered and keep up with demand
Hmm…
Money to preproduce more stock.. to keep up with demand, but demand is always so you need money always. Wouldnt you be stuck in an endless loop cycle then?
honest question here if i have like a massive amount of desk space for my mouse and keyboard theres no point in getting a 60% right???
There is.
whats the reason
Fullsize > 60%
no because its not like they can't pre order anything, just if the demand spikes more than they anticipated they need to book more spots that arent open isntantly etc.
Less space to bang your mouse on your left
if you use a low DPI you slam your mouse into the numpad quite often and you can sit more ergonomic
Also you can get those fancy extra key pds
i have like a meter of mouse space
No i do too
But ergonomically you would be hitting your keypad
If you’re not then youre not using your body correctly
You’re essentially either really long armed or too high off the table or too low
hm
It’s been a nice thing to have this wooting keyboard now that i dont hit my mousepad every damn time i flick to my left
ur sens too high i think cuz i never had the issue of hitting my keyboard
My sense can’t be too high, this is just whats comfortable for me, but fundamentally yes my sense is high.
lower sense is better for more accuracy and that means you need to move more
I play valorant and apex so i like to have a good amount of low and high speed. A middle comfort
I dont like being slow
If you find comfort in low sense by all means this issue isnt present, thats normal.
Essentially, end of all answer. If your sense is high or normal amount like mine (or you just have to move your mouse a lot and you flick a lot) then a 60% keyboard is essentially the best thing to play in.
Theoretically it’d be nice that when i’m not playing videogames, i’ll swap to my regular custom 75% keyboard or whatever.
Since i dont have to worry about hitting my keyboard
Yeah causing them to be in a cycle. You’re saying that at some point they’ll have enough spots bc of money?
^
what if my keyboard crooked LMAO
I only use it for work, lol. Even then I have an external numpad
no its not a cycle, they plan to produce more than preordered, its onyl a cycle if the pre orders increase faster than they could anticipate
my hand naturally rests to the left of my tkl keyboard when its centered on my seating position
Because custom Numpads are cool!
you just cant have 10x more than you think you need because that is a few millions you risk into production
You dont have this problem most likely but you’ll risk your top left of the mouse hitting the keyboard. I tried it, wasnt comfortable. I even tried forcing my arm to move my keyboard more to my left and it still default to my muscle memory slowly pushing it back to the middle
i really wish left side numpads were normalized
Well lately that’s how its been no?
I think keychron has a left Numpad kb.
i know they exist i wish they were normalized
I mean lately covid and component shortages also hit and made delays
so add that in and it delays stuff more
Well, your only good option is keychron lmao.
So we can estimate in the next few months they’ll have enough stock no? Or will this process continue for a long long time?
No delays, no crazy holidays
depends on how many more people pre order than they expect xD
Im telling you this is technically a cycle broo 😭
thats how ordering works yes
its only a cycle if suddenly another fornite boom or similar happens and makes orders explode far more than anticipated
if they have a lot of orders they can plan for making that much and spares
I suppose. Alright i was just curious and pondering.
They make left side macros but wont make left side keypads
It’d be scuffed at first but im sure i’ll be used to it
i mean they make numpads and you can use them on the left lol i just wish they were built into the keyboards
Start a petition
Jk they not gonna listen. Ppl like the idea of separate key pads for extra functions
who would I petition?
its not the manufacturers since they dont make them because they arent popular
and regular people with keyboards dont care
Thats why i’m gonna buy the Elgato stream deck +
You’re right.
I think the 60HE exploded because of osu
no
Also because rapid trigger is the first of its kind
it was fortnite
That too. They definitely had an influence.
but they came after fortniters first got it iirc?
BadSeedTech and OptimumTech giving people that final nudge of confidence and willingness to buy, and the audience reach to do it
Fortnite's Double Movement definitely didn't hurt for a long time.
osu! basically took over where Fortnite left, except now we were selling keyboards for real, not just providing a free tool for those without a board 😄
yeah thats what I mean, the fortnite boom started it
Rapid trigger is overpowered for osu.
and caused the original delay due to stocks selling out

That is very clearly a desktop
its really not tbh
the skill ceiling doesnt go higher, it just makes it easier to achieve imo
I could make a bigger one with my plasma cutter.
As evidenced by it topping a desk and not a lap

Or like, standalone furniture lol
well the picture clearly shows it on a lap
And an old computer to drive it.

Ah yes, Linux from 2008 on the Wii https://youtu.be/mrdR43-sqKs
Is it possible to install Linux on the Nintendo Wii? Yes! Should you do it? Probably not. But let's do it anyways.

what else are you gonna run lol
yea right
id bet theres a million risc machines running linux for every one running unix
but there are a billion wiis around
oh god
imagine a supercluster of wiis
ps3 much?
kubernetes on wii
im building my first pc. is there anyone here whose a pc nerd who can tell me if my build is sht or not
post the pcpartpicker and we will "help"
AKA: Get into a massive argument over what parts are better or not
Help by swapping out most of the parts we don't like aesthetically or don't like the brand of
Count me in
That's why I say "help"
Not help

nothin but noctua
and of course, the cheapest, shittiest case
fire hazard PSU
Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 5600X, GeForce RTX 2060, NZXT H510 Flow ATX Mid Tower
the case is like 105
rgb powersupply the way to go fr
You'll need to update the bios are you comfortable with that, you'd have to email amd to get a CPU to update it
What parts do you already have?
Not much too it, since the Motherboard has USB flash without CPU.
Ah didn't see that
Besides if they're building a computer, NOT having that would make this an impossible build if the motherboard doesn't come preflashed 😄
The old method is contacting amd to send you a CPU just to update the bios
Welcome to amd
It's pretty frequently a problem
Personally I wouldn't use Corsair memory but that's just me
That's uh... that's just a "new chipset, old mobo" thing, champ. Intel and AMD are equally affected.
Amd just has it more often because of the chipset cross compatibility
How DARE they be inclusive 😄
At least in the ddr4 gen it was a big problem because several times amd released motherboards before their CPU launches without the new CPU support
Mfw z5690 comes out
See previous point.
That statement was refuting your previous point...
- sigh *
your mother
Is our lover
Undercover
non. i was gonna order it all today
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/zDnfTn
Can this fit the budget?
You can always buy more ram later and samsung overcharges for their ssds
Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 5600X, GeForce RTX 3060 12GB, NZXT H510 Flow ATX Mid Tower
if the non X is cheaper could look at that too
That too
Actually does the x come with a cooler?
it should yea
Ye so either way
The 3060 will get you more perf gain vs even dropping down to a 5600g
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/XTjzVw
ye also if you have an nvme ssd, getting big ram is less important
Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 5600, GeForce RTX 3060 12GB, NZXT H510 Flow ATX Mid Tower
also dang besides the gpu and psu, prices have basically come back to normal
y does a nvme ssd affect the ram and wtf happened how did u fit a 3060 in there and keep it at 900
did cutting the ram in half decrease it that much
i changed the ssd too
ah
and the cpu too in the second one
so 5600x isnt worth?
5600x and 2060 gets wrecked by 5600 and 3060
i see
if you can do 5600x and 3060 then thats good
the performance you wont notice, the price is different yes
thx ill get this instead
also do u know if its possible to duel pc setup with a laptop and desktop?
ive done it before
my laptop has a i7 so i wanted to use it for the streaming half
🤷 the 3060 will probably do a better job and you probably wouldnt notice the performance difference
so it perfomance diff wouldnt be noticable if i gamed and streamed from the pc im building rn?
vs doing the duel pc thing
it depends on how many effects you have on the stream, but a normal stream it wont matter
does effects mean overlays/sources or do u mean like a streamdeck?
i mean sources + overlays
and if you are doing any special effects like greenscreen
just ordered it thx for the help
glhf!
the wd is faster and has a better warranty
its more than an entire sata ssd faster lel
its also tlc not qlc
at least as far as i can tell the p41 plus is qlc
yea its en entire gig per second faster on both read and write lmao
and I dont want to perform tech support for them
what advantage is that to a normal person tho
when is bridging ever better than just spending the same amount on a switch lel
i dunno about you but i dont like my internet dropping when i reboot my pc
if its sufficiently unghetto enough to be buying a case, they can buy a switch
i only recommend buying dual nic boards to 1 friend because every single ethernet controller he uses breaks within 2 years
The Surface tablets are so nice looking <3
agreed
but way too expensive ;-;
just have your work pay for it lel
i mean thats specifically not legal
and he got me to add 2 ad services to the website because he cant figure out that you need to have visitors to the site to get ad revenue
im fine for now... living at home :/
the hunt for a better job isnt going well
got to pay it back later on
with interest
uh
what country do you live in lmao
they just take it out as taxes from salary when you get a job
in addition to normal taxes
no idea
seriously what country?
Ireland
really?
yes?
they always seemed progressive relative to the uk to me
in some ways yes
not food stamps
idek if we have those here
we have a thing called the dole... idk how its spelled but you get money each week
but you got to meet a lot of requirements yet some how my friend got it while in college
BRUH WTF
US Site: Starts at $999
Irish site: Starts at 1,390 Euro
Why does wifi cost extra??? ITS A DAMN TABLET
lte usually?
Usually the other way around - Simcard is pricier.
^
What is Microsoft SQ3?
garbage qualcomm arm chip
battery life is insane tho
Oh...
there is no LTE version
oh wait, nvm there is
cant get the SQ3 version with wifi...LTE only
.-.
bruh
They are expensive AF in US but anywhere else they are even more expensive
yea and for me my credit card is enough to cancel out the taxes lol
This depends on item to item in cases vat in some cases could become shipping and raw good tax for US
vat is usually lower in the states but that isnt really comparable since other taxes and stuff exist
300 for the Keyboard + Pen
yea when we order a surface, it ends up being a 3500 combo
tho that includes monitor and docking station too
Does that include surface mouse
no
no
they are actually microsoft mouse and keyboard bundles that we order but they are rather cheap
Surface Pro 9 + 12th Gen Core i7 + 16GB Ram + 512GB Storage + Signature Keyboard, Slim Pen 2 = 2,528
fortunately tho you can just get as small storage as you can and upgrade it
is that easy? these tablets dont seem easy to take apart
best tablets made
its literally just a paperclip
They are but at the price could get a very nice laptop
actually windows on surface is great

excuse me what
8.1 is good but it is outdated
I really liked 8.1 on a touchscreen , the multitasking gestures were so fluid
8.1 was designed for tablets first
swiping from the left to switch app, or swipe from left and hold to see them all
the gestures are still there on 10
Hence why the start menu was tiles
yeah, with slow and janky animations that feel lightyears backwards from 8.1
How about Linux for tablet?
they feel fine on my surface pro 4 lmao
yeowch
Id run Linux on the Surface for sure
definetly dont buy a surface then lel
Gnome desktop on touchscreen is amazing
literally the only reason to go surface is if you want the best windows experience
If only it had thunderbolt
you are better off going dell hp or lenovo if you just want a tablet
Which they continue to refuse
current and last gen of surface has it
yes
no touchscreen
and they still support the great magnetic charging
get what?
Then any laptop is touch
OOOOOO THERE IS A SAPPHIRE COLOR FOR THE SURFACE
also the apple silicon devices dont have upgradeable storage
ITS SO PRETTY
lol yes?
no
100%
this laptop was great value....
16GB ram
1TB SSD
it was 630 euro :D
its m.2
and yes, I made my Neofetch mega cursed
also the old surfaces had microsd card slots but the new ones i dont think they do any more
But the new ones have m.2?
yes
Alright not a bad tradeoff
but imagine if it also had msd
Just annoying to swap
actually lemme see if ive got a sp9 in the office somewhere
The Bezels are very not matched

ITS TWO HANDS
yea i really dont get the whole tablets without the ability to hold them trend
Camera and magnets rhen
nah
Sorry for the ping
its just for being able to hold it
Is it
magnets?
Because the bottom is bigger
the keyboard attaches with magnets
And the keyboard usually need some area
you hold it by the thinner sides though
no you dont
you hold it by the stand when its horizontal
he holding it wrong?
Well whatever let us say it has two purposes then
wait is this OLED?
🤷♂️
no hes gripping it by holding onto the kickstand
and no its not oled
120hz ltpo lcd
ooo its 120Hz though
they dont mention if its OLED or LCD so I assume its LCD
...
if they dont say, then assume the worst LOL
Lcd aint the worst
LTPO?
low power
Adaptive refresh rate
no
Usually very low
ooohhhh
panel self refresh doesnt mean adaptive refresh rate
Okay....
I wonder what happened to the JingPad
the Linux powered tablet from last year
that had really nice hardware too
the other Linux tablets have really shit hardware ;-; this was the only decent one
What will be the end of Windows? Microsoft.

11 Windows certificates and he stills really hates this OS
LOL
Apple sheep or Linux nerd?
Not Apple sheep
I see
he hates Apple slightly more
Lol slightly
its window management is really shit
worse than Windows...
and Windows should be the best at it... ITS LITERALLY THE OS NAME
but its not
i disagree but ok
Linux can do far FAR better window management
can
yeah
with extra software
literally no
but windows has better extra software
you can make rules for all windows, specific windows, specific apps that control anything you want about how the window is presented
wat
I have one for Discord to always make it the same size and location on the screen when it opens and it also forces the dark titlebar color scheme even if im in light theme on every other app
I can make the titlebar go away if I want to, and move the window controls to the panel like the old Unity desktop used to do when an app is maximised
I can add effects to open and close animations like them burning when you close them or whatever
easy
Linux is unmatched with what you can do with application windows
ngl I would call that bloatware if windows has that
at work all my applications open to where i need them to be
yeah, can do that here too built in
yes
i mean technically its stock here but its an nvidia driver feature not made by microsoft
this is using the nvidia rtx desktop manager which is part of the "quadro" drivers
besides you wouldnt need that if it was easier to snap windows around lol
microsofts new win 11 snapping of windows is fantastic
oh, that bar that appears at the top of the screen whenever you move shit around?
yee
dang our company branding is now everywhere on these new computers to the point that i cant even send pics any more without doxing myself
Youtube need to fix their website on smaller window sizes
cant see the channel name anymore
not even that small of a window
ofc yyou see the entire name here, wtf
oh, cause I was subbed to the other channel so there is more on that line LOL
so on a channel you are subbed to it shows less, seems fine with me?
more
eh yea, meant it hides the name
which I think is no big deal since you should know the channel if you are subbed to it
And when they have something insane that makes people want to use Bing, they take it away..
oh. this is useful....I dont use Flatpak though if I can just install a package nativly
but on Steam Deck this would be great
Too bad we have no clue when Plasma 5.27 will come to Deck
Hmmmm.... wtf this mean?
Global shortcuts for x11 apps?
Yes
Aha
Im on Wayland on my laptop but idk if YouTube is using x11 or not
But only the pause toggle shortcut works on it
The skip and previous shortcuts don't
They could have easily added media keys to this keyboard .-.
i think this is old news but this isnt the same as the thing ian leaked!
i wonder what that cpu ian leaked will be productized as?
(this is spr xeon w)
you mean the one thing he tweeted specs about a while ago?
no the one he took a picture of the die
the rpl xcc thing that was mislabled?
yea
it wasnt mislabeled
well that depends on who at intel you ask xD
no, someone just accidentally picked up rpls-34c when they meant to pick up rpl-24c or whatever
could be I just remember it was on the exhibition and the label didnt match or was weird and thats how it got noticed
the label matches the die
the person thought it was a client cpu and rpl is a client name
the only thing is there is no 34 core raptor lake cpu announced or released
yup
and these spr xeon ws have the exact same looking cores, but the largest die is pictured here and isnt as big as the rpl die
it could be some pipecleaner die that is not exactly like a product they are making in the end
microsoft can somehow piss and shit on windows however they want and still end up with a better OS for the mainstream than linux
yes
the proof is in the pudding
I find windows maddening to use :/
Can't do shit to customize it without dodgy third party software
linux can't even convince the vast majority to switch even though its free
Cause the big software doesn't work on it because the devs don't wanna support it
most people use windows to use other software not to tinker with the os itself and customize it
yeah
literally everything linux is dodgy third party software lmao
It's a loop
Users won't switch without the software
Software won't switch without the users
.-.
I'd happily switch if I could keep using my existing software and hardware without major readjustment headaches
open source
Dodgy
??
If you paranoid
Check the code
Or see if others have checked the code
because every person can read code and knows if its malicous
tell that to your grandma who just wants to find recipes online
online
That's dodgy on any OS
its equally dodgy
Moreso on windows cause viruses can auto download and run on windows
the difference is that for linux, literally core components of your os are built that way
What?
you say that as if it isnt possible for linux
It is possible...but they won't be able to automatically get admin perms
same story on windows
your windows installation won't go and download and run viruses on its own
clumsy user input is always the first step
and windows has blocks in place to prevent it from doing damage
I've seen a windows virus get downloaded and triggered just by visiting a website
No input needed
what, like windows 98?
^
10
yeah no
Yeah yes
in what iexplore.exe?
Chrome I think
both edge and chrome have measures to prevent it
and edge's measures are significantly more effective
Maybe they do now
But not back when I saw this demo
firefox is about 93% at blocking malware, chrome is 95% and edge is 100%
Ubuntu ....
Amazing font rendering
.....
I refuse to believe Firefox is less secure than Chrome
Wtf
unless you have a 1080p or 1440p screen lel
what was it
linus tech tips that did the "linux challenge" and ended up mistakenly uninstalling his graphical user interface

new user friendly
In this video we test the three most popular browsers, Chrome, Edge and Firefox vs 300 malware links to find the most secure browser.

edge was the only browser to block all of the links
That was a legit popOS problem :/
They had the graphical server marked as a hard dependency for steam
gj edge
chrome and firefox allowed the same amount through, however chrome would prompt as suspicious for some that firefox just let through
which leads us back to linux not being a good user experience for most novice to intermediate users
thats what they tested
"oh you picked the wrong distro out of the hundreds available barely documented ones on the internet? tough shit I suppose"
I still think that installing software is easier on Linux
You just open the app center and hit install and give it your password
does operagx use a non google adblocking database
same on windows lel
No...unless you somehow manage to only use store apps
except on windows there are 10 times as many apps
windows has 10 store apps for every linux app in a linux store
I've used the windows store a total number of one time
and I've used windows since 3.11 was mainstream
a fucking horrible OS for the record
Just because there are a lot of apps doesn't mean the ones people want are there
steam chrome and firefox are 1 click installs from their websites
They aren't....
also most modern linux distros borrows a fuckton of their GUI from win95 and its deratives
You download an installed
Navigate to the downloads folder
Double click the installer
It makes a new windows
You got to click next
Make sure to untick any boxes that may try to install other software too
Click next a few times
Then done
Not one click from website
thats wrong
in edge it is 1 click to download chrome
macOS is so simplistic it becomes complicated and confusing coming from any other platform
"what do you mean just drag and drop the icon to install"
where's the files
now setting it as default?
different story, but most linux distros also have that problem
that wasn't a thing when I used it
and then it prompts you 10 times for different accessibility settings that are nescessary for it to run
but then again I pretty much stopped using a mac on the daily since 2015
i have to use mac at work
Linux:
- Open Chrome
- popup appears "Want to set Chrome as default browser?
- click ok
Easy
no
Literally yes
on whatever distro you are currently using maybe
not on linux in general
Yes
Yes it does
Browsers always ask to be default if they detect that they aren't
It's normal for any OS for them to do that
but that wasnt true on my steam deck
and it wasnt true last time i used ubuntu (tho tbf its been a while)
Firefox isn't installed by default on deck
Just a shortcut to install it via discover placed on the taskbar
anyways thats not actually that big a problem, people can figure that out
i feel bad for you
we had to go and buy an intel silicon mac to replace our apple silicon one because an apple provided program wouldnt work
I've never not had a browser ask to set it to default if it wasn't the default browser when I launched it on Windows or Linux
It's ALWAYS happened
navigate to download what? just single click on the file it shows in your download bar
And I've used many Linux distros
Then proceed with all the following steps
which are just wait for chrome
steam does
Most apps do
either you click and select the install settings or you do it as arguments in console line on linux, really a wash and basically the same
oh yea thats another linux problem
They ask if you wanna make shortcuts
And install other software
installing apps on specific drives
?
What
Oh
The issue that Linux doesn't automatically mount additional drives?
Yes
That's a problem ;_;
No the fact that package managers don't make it easy to install to other drives
got a macbook pro in 2010 which I used a lot for audio work, also had a bunch of iphones and a few ipads but that about covers all my apple ownership and usage
used windows for most of my life
What kind of situation would you need to install an app to another drive?
and a little bit of linux but was long ago now
Big chonk of an app won't fit on your slim /, what now
are you installing everything on your main drive?
oh god
ew
I'd rather install desktop applications on a different drive than games
so imagine you have idk a gigantic software suite that you dont use often that also happens to work just fine on a hard drive
I legit have a drive just for games
No apps installed on it
i have 5 lel
there are some software suites that are 200+GB, and dont need that fast storage
everything on C drive just means I cant just replace that or wipe OS without having to set up everything again
Adobe?
adobe is like 500gb or something crazy at this point
... Bruh
tho i was more thinking eda software
I have just 256gb for the drive windows is installed on
But just slightly less than half of that is still empty
Meanwhile on my laptop
I have a 1tb SSD and Linux clean install takes just 5gb ....
CC suite is huge
linux on my raspberry pi alone is more than 5gb lel
and most of the icons look almost the same
great job there coming from a company specializing in software for graphical design and editing
I'm sure there is no use case who would need all that installed at once though???
Strange
Fedora uses roughly 5-6gb
these are the only ones I use
sure which is why i was not actually thinking of adobe as an example, i was more thinking of eda software
Oh
another big one is coding suites
and unreal
But Unity let's you install projects to other drives if you wanna ....so that's not much of an issue
and imagine if you have to have multiple versions of unity and unreal for different builds lel
I had only the Unity Hub installed on C: and the Engine and Projects folders are on another drive
Cause that drive was a portable HDD so I could have my projects to swap between my computer and college computers during classes
so why not put the hub on the HDD as well then
still have the problem of having to reinstall all your programs when your ssd dies or whatever
Cause the college already had the Hub installed on the computers
but then you still had to manually add the projects to the hub there, so why not keep it on the hdd so it has the path to the projects when you open the hub
either works but just seems easier to me
really the problem is office pcs
the only linux distro ready for IT managed pcs is chromeos
Does winget support adding multiple packages on the same command? Or must it be one package at a time?
Rip
I still hope winget gets better over time
It's really awesome to have a centralized package manager on windows
its also really cool that it can install store apps
we use that feature for our automation of installing new computers
O.o
I could use it to install Minecraft Bedrock?
dont see why not
O...
is there a way to see at ram bandwidth utilization or something to try and discern if a game would benefit more from tighter ram timings or only faster cores?
trying to be lazy and not manually try both lol
amd reports bandwidth usage in hwinfo, and intel has a tool as part of their debugging suite that i forget the name of
I dont think I see it in hwinfo
maybe I had it hidden I'll see again
oh I just overlooked it

I doubt it is the ram since I just want to increase the drops when many players are around and that's probably just pure cpu limitation but doesnt hurt to check
well, can't really bench online setting
could increase the bench result but not be relevant when online
A retrospective on Bryce 3D from 1997, a classic program letting you quickly create surreal ray traced imagery on your computer. It always makes me think of 90s Trapper Keeper artwork, when school binders and folders were covered in shiny CGI shapes and weird sci-fi cities and things. So let's create a tribute to that style of art using Bryce fo...
oh I member this
https://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/W790 WS/index.asp Those 3 fans at the top will probably be annoying

what fans?
oh they where hiding
i looked in the gallery
no idea why you would get that over the saGE
the sage is def the best layed out board
all the power in one spot
Yeah
no skiiped first pcie slot
triple m.2 + wifi spot
plus you know dual psu support
Yeah, loads of features on that Sage
New virus trick going around
Adding a fake icon and hiding .exe files using the rtlo character in the file name
Are we back in the 90s?
yes that is as old as its possible, just most scams are not smart enough to do more than change the image or so
new exploit going around abusing word and excel macros
I have a boring server motherboard that’s double the size of that
The wankle engine?
Right
They have really crap efficiency though.
When compared to a typical cylinder engine.
This is with my experiences with Wankel engines
Also the sealing gaskets wear out very quickly.
And everything has to be machined super precisely, or else it wouldn’t make a good deal.
Layman’s terms lol.
Also the way it’s designed to burn the fuel causes extreme temperature differences between the intake half and exhaust half of the engine, which can cause internal stress within the metal crystalline structure.
And eventually given enough time, will cause it to fail.
Lol true
My muscle memory is getting the best of me
Every metal can experience stress when hit with a major thermal difference throughout its structure.
And that includes aluminum.
I’ve had aluminum bend and deform on me when I try to weld sheets together.
Touch ID lol
Considering it doesn't cost much less than the pro at 256gb idk
Why bother with an M1 then
Idk why but I always assumed it was way better than it was
One less chip to manufacture.
Saves on cost
Make more of what you have than make a new thing
No, it’s not you, iPads are just better.
It's making it difficult to move away from them because I can't justify £1200 😭
Ye I know
I use a pro first gen atm
Only reason I'm replacing it is because input ghosting
Ah.
But I can't justify the pro 12.9"
And I can't justify the pro 11 because I'm so used to a bigger size screen and also differences is night and day
I've always hated android tablets and still kinda do but the Lenovo Tab 12 Pro is very appealing as it checks all boxes
- Decently priced
- 12.6" (Number 1 criteria)
- Snapdragon 860
- Desktop mode similar but not as good as stage view
- 2K AMOLED HDR10 doby vision 120hz
- Android 13
- Comes with the pencil which is kinda cool but not remotely as good as the apple pencil
And tbh
Other than the M1 chip it's a pretty damn good competitor to the air
Now I could go second hand but I'm kinda wanting to use my £450 voucher for Amazon 😅
Tbh idk why I just don't get it and try Vs overthink it but here I am
Yo update your Ryzen master.
Never used it in the first place
