And my preference for not having an ugly, lumpy, weird looking enter key isn't valid?
blob love is also valid
saying you dont like the @ not being on the 2 isn't valid because thats not layout related 😛
do you happen to have a short stumpy little pinky finger !
No but I have no feeling in my left hand
left shift is just a sprint key anyways
why is there no option in Windows Terminal to run a command when the terminal opens?
wait you want terminal to auto execute something when you open terminal with no extra commands?
oo can change colors
yes you can even write custom shaders to run in your terminal
split pane.....very useful
once again I wonder why I even try
yeah
you know how in Linux if you add a command to .bashrc it will run that command every time the terminal opens?
I want to do that in Windows Terminal
you can do that....
@wheat plume notepad $profile in your powershell
wtf
oh wait you're using command prompt ew
you just edit the target in the shortcut that calls the cmd.exe and add the command there
Or, use profiles as was suggested already
Terminal does
not that kind of profile
a powershell profile is a .ps1 file that gets run when powershell is opened
you can change the execution parameters in your windows terminal cmd profile to execute a .bat file when you open it though
either way there are multiple ways, for cmd/ps/terminal I just personally dont use it because I dont see the reason why
would always want to keep the basic call of that clean and if I need something that I use often make a seperate file for it that I use instead
for me it's for oh my posh
Gotta have the themes
Also aliases, if you need them, I have a couple for convenience
write your own custom shader for terminal and problem solved ez
I added an AutoRun DWORD into registry and it works... xd
but even for themes I think I would prefer to use a shortcut with it instead to keep the option open to have stock available if needed
should it not work?
time to use the command I actually want instead
idk, this was the easiest solution I found sooo I did it
It's had if for a good while
Just at first it wasn't in stable then it was opt in and now default
The Terminal app itself is really nice, its stilll CMD or Powershell you interact with though
tabs are W
yes
I just wish start e would open new tabs of explorer was open
And similar with terminal
dont think the explorer ones are too useful but terminal ones are nice for background sessions
definitely not necessary though
explorer ones sre extremely useful
there's also a 'quake mode' which is nice, terminal pops up from the top
true, but if I need to have an ssh session open to occasionally do something, just aesthetic to not have another window open :^)
¯_(ツ)_/¯
didn't think much of how weird the sensei shape is, but comparing it next to my current gpw and I don't know how I got used to it
stock steels mouse feet might actually be the worst
the residue glue and plastic crap they leave behind in the moldings are some of the hardest to get rid of I've encountered
thats not the good g8
except for the good one
the va g8 actually has better contrast than the oled unless your room is pitch black
bad va needs to go, good va needs to be made by more than just samsung
not until oled doubles in brightness and gets more efficient
maybe evolutions of samsungs VA can become the new standard and kick ips and tn out, idk, wouldn't mind all screens to become simpler to differentiate xD
as long as it gets more stuff that is better I'm all for keeping it
microled is lcd at the moment
@ashen spindle ive decided I will splurge whjen samsung puts out a 240hz version of that monitor
Coping until then
Aren't you thinking of miniLED? Actual microLED is emissive and has no need for liquid crystal aspect. It's why it's LCD Vs OLED Vs microLED.
I have only seen a microLED display in the UK at a fab and it definitely isn't LCD but this isn't consumer level.
I can only think of Samsung that currently sells a "consumer" level at like 100k and that's not LCD to my knowledge
the samsung odyssey neos are microled behind lcd
as is the ipad pro and macbook pro
mini vs micro is just a size difference unfortunately
and the only retail microled without an lcd layer is the samsung wall
It's really not, that's a very reductive statement.
microLED is emissive, it has no need for the tft layer or crystal.
The neo is miniLED, not micro LED
Each pixel in a microLED is emissive like OLED or QD-OLED, it's much closer to that than LCD.
It's comparable in that it's a display but it's not LCD.
samsung makes led, microled, and miniled emissive panels
samsung also makes led, microled, and miniled backlit lcds
the emissive panels are atm commercial install only
It says miniLED. There is no "cheap" microLED monitors nor TVs at this point in time.
The neos are 100% not microLED. miniLED is what you are thinking of
alright thats my bad i guess its only apple with microled at the moment
You are thinking of the Apple watch as that was recently rumoured that apple are using a microLED display for it next year or something.
They currently only use miniLED displays but they have relatively high zone counts (better than most miniLED displays)
Apple has no microled
Apple wants LG to make them micro led
And for now it's only for the watch
apple uses microleds for their liquid retina xdr display on the ipad pro 12.9
yes its dumb that theres no distinction between the emissive and the backlit
but thats how it is
iPad pro has 2000 LEDs behind it which is good for miniLED.
if it was microLED it would be each pixel, it will be interesting to see how they price their watch with it as microLED is expensive and hard to make cheap.
The place I know personally has been working on making "cheap" microLED displays for a decade now with sapphire substrate LEDs.
It's been delayed many times but meta bought them out in the end and is looking to be done this year as a first gen last I'm told.
you are confusing how the definitions should be with how they are in reality
It's not
https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT212527
It even says here it's an LCD with mini led. You are just mixing up the names, happens to the best of us!
Find out how to get the most out of the Liquid Retina XDR display on your iPad Pro 12.9-inch (5th and 6th generation).
liquid = lcd
Micro led is the actual pixels
They added liquid to the name to differentiate between their retina OLED and their IPS/LCD displays.
A microled apple watch would be over a million LEDs in a 2 inch screen
thats the technical definition, but its not how its used unfortunately
It's why micoLED is potentially the next best thing especially compared to OLED.
Significantly higher brightness with little to no degradation compared to OLED equivalent.
Display XDR is 576 in 32 inches
By who
What manufacturer calls miniled microled
Apple calls the XDR backlight 2d miniled
well samsung for one
https://appleinsider.com/articles/23/02/06/native-union-belt-cable-duo-an-impossible-lightning-and-usb-c-cable this looks cursed
samsung display that is
samsung distinguishes between emissive and lcd by calling their emissive displays "direct view"
they have direct view led, miniled, and microled
Again
Show me them saying a non direct view microled is microled
Because they make actual microled TV's and call them microled
And they make miniled lcd and call them miniled
and now i have a headache
and they make "direct view miniled" screens without an lcd
Yeah those are the giant video walls
tho if apple has swapped their nomenclature, and it seems samsung actually is no longer producing the direct view minileds, that would mean we can actually swap over to the new definition
Well I don't think they ever sold those
But they had them at ces once
But they aren't missing any of the terms
LG and Samsung both sell actual microled as microled
No one sells miniled as microled
Sony calls it something else
They don't market it as micro led
Yeah it's "Crystal LED"
Samsung's direct view is a fine pixel LED display, it has 0.83mm pitch, which is a traditional led
Again you are proving my point, not yours.
hey I want companies to switch over to the technical definition as much as you do
I mean you are saying they are using it when they aren't and you are also saying it is microLED when it isn't.
Samsung makes led, miniled and microled displays
There are debates at how small each package needs to be to be classed as microLED but it's definitely not the debate between miniLED and microLED.
Samsung made the "Wall"
Which was direct view miniled
Like the maximus
how bright is 1 microled shining through a hole in the pcb all the way up to the switch/cap
not very
sounds like top notch ecofriendliness to me
Depends, technically or right now?
but that would be a terrible idea since the whole point of a microled is it isnt packaged
right now if you put a microled on the keyboard, it would go up in smoke the second you exposed it to air
the whole point of microled is that you dont need to protect each led
Why would it go up in smoke? You can't really buy individual microLEDS , I know a place making them but only for meta and still development.
Each one is "packaged" so it's not going to expire and could be connected.
One led on its own is not going to be extremely bright as it's the size of a pixel haha. You would need several for a single key really
if it includes the package, thats a miniled
microleds are packaged as a group
packaged microLED is a legitimate thing
As it is easier in production to connect together allowing essentially fully custom sizes.
I can only say what I remember last time I visited the fab which was 7 years ago now, back then Samsung and LG were looking to buy it as it was "commendable" technology in this way
It essentially becomes the argument of monolithic Vs chiplets in a similar fashion again. It's possible and no doubt I assume Samsung do it as monolithic but this place doesn't do it that way.
were they copackaging r g and b at least?
That I cannot recall, I assume this is a yes but I would be lying and guessing
this at least is copackaging rgb
v looks like what it would be like yes

Ngl fractal design North looks really nice
I plug this damn mouse in for like 10 seconds and
this is peak mouse grip
the horror
idk why they felt like making engine worse than synapse
but they achieved it
got the new skates on though so that's nice
Well clearly this is what customers want since otherwise they wouldn't do it, right.... right?
oh yea obv I want game capture software in my mouse software

what mouse did you get
Gotta save your GG moments
its my old mouse basically, sensei ten that developed doubleclick issue on lmb so swapped it for a g pro wireless
nothing "dials home"
I got the switch sorted out tho so it works 100% again
Windows discovers new device and automatically loads drivers, drivers have ads
omega crusty image
but what you would get if you complained about that about razer stuff when it does that
oh yeah I got a razer headset
didn't bother installing synapse last time I did a system reinstall
yep I got the usb interface one so I could still use my main interface for other things
@astral haven ever heard of a LSI warp drive?
I was looking for the most bonkers storage for my XP machine and I think it's the best you can do for xp
the warp drives are the garbage ones that are sas based right?
without the software its not bad
question is are they bootable
yea but is that raid card bootable lel
if you are sure
Lol
I have it running
Right now
Put the driver on a floppy and XP installed to it
The management software only works on XP 64 though
XP 32 had no issues installing and booting
And it has a bios config
i went with the iodrives which are about 10x faster but arent bootable because my impression was you couldnt boot from any of the pre nvme pcies
Pre nvme that are pure ssd
These are just sas raid
You can buy the adapter and run normal SAS drives
It's just a neat solution because the driver are tiny
But in the config you can actually see all 4 128GB drives
And the controller has 512mb of cache
But the header for battery is missing
Idk if if I solder in a lion if it will allow wrote cache
yea i never really looked into them bc i never needed to boot from em, i just wanted the fastest cheap storage
and i wanted mlc
They have SLC and mlc
The 400gb are like 20-40
And 800gb is 60-80
And tests right at 2gb read, 1.2gb write in xp64
yea i got 3x2.4tb for under 200 each
and they have no cache too so they can be configured to be atomic even without plp
Lots of news stories this week about how 'Company X is undershipping = price fixing'. It's not true. Here's the basic guide as to what undershipping really is.

actually insane how many places went with that story as if they would actually just admit to illegal market things on a call lmfao
Have not looked into it much, but the stories I did read definitely made it seem like something else was going on.
Just a sign of the time I guess, news outlets assuming the other one did their homework.
tldr, they say people bought less so they shipped less bc stores ordered less
people took that as price fixing by limiting supply bc finance terms hard for youtuber
Even though the concept is really simple.
All AMD says here is we sold less cpu's because retailers are clearing out late pandemic inventory.
Still the major problem is it takes just one ignorant outlet for the rest to copy / paste.
ehhh, lots of them used the same term so they also didnt know what it meant
Sure, but they also never bothered to ask someone who does.
@astral haven ever seen the memory requirement for the first gen fusion-ios?
them 640GB model needs 23GB of ram for the drivers lol
Yea and it's wrong
A tech journalist does not necessarily need to know these concepts. He should however know to ask.
yes, should ring a bell that they surely wouldnt just admit to something likely illegal and maybe spend 5 seconds on google
Creating scarcity itself is not illegal as far as I know
Again not what undershipping means.
but if you think they are price fixing that surely is so might still want to google what words you use, but people didnt
They underproduced
Not underundership
lmao
Samsung F320 NVMe SSD DriveTested and removed from a fully working system.Shipped in esd-safe material.
The samsung is probably 10-100x the iops
yep
lowerpower
5GB/s vs 2GB/s too
so raw thoughput is better on the samsung
yeah
samsung is 1 million iops read, 180k write lol
Vs like 60k on the lsi?
yeah
i kinda want one of the F320
do i need it? no. do I want it? yes.
do i need it? no. do i want it? of course
mfw thats more expensive than an ssd i bought that was 1/10th the size
those arent the same ais obviously
@astral haven https://www.kasilag.me/warpdrive/
if you wnat to mess with one
they are neet
those things should be capable of 8GB/s per card at a half mil iops on 20k cycle emlc nand
yes but they could be if someone wrote new firmware for them
they are just fpgas wired to nand and pcie
if the fpga arent fused
since when can fpgas be fused?
are you sure you know how fpgas work?
they dont store their configuration
they load it on startup
they are called anitfuse fpgas
theya re used in tons of mil/aero applications
they are write once
there are also lots of normal fpgas with write fuses on the programing
Hazarding a guess
Fuse fpgas are used in applications where you want a dedicated function done real quick, but don't want to design and manufacture a new chip for the job?
yep
or the hardware is made before the chip is done
you test with burn once fpga
then shift to asic when its done
is the wooting dev portal down ?
yes
this is a new popup...
Probably just someone going "oh shit - GDPR is a thing, we need to ask"
🤔
there are two totally different Search Windows depending on how you activate the Search box
and one of them is off center
wonderful
Why does it say "Error, fail to fetch" and nothing loads when I go onto the "My orders" page on wooting hub.
@wheat plume I mean ye that makes sense
It makes sense but it still looks wrong
it's centered for the windows based search and aligned to the left for the searchbar? Just sounds inconsistent but it is what it is
Windows in a nut shell
It makes sense (sometimes)
It doesn't look right (most of the time)
At least it just works
I wish I could agree with that but unfortunately I need to reinstall windows on my work machine because it's broken
don't break it then
Windows Update completely broke the installation. Not my fault
yeh no
how does windows update break your whole installation
that seems to be a different issue though
windows updates breaking shit is a thing
deleting documents is bad yes but shouldn't "break" your system
yes ms own site talks about it, in cases of you upgrading to basically a new os
which isnt the same as a regular windows udpate
Installing Windows updates counts as a new OS technically
no, it counts as an update
nope xd
I did not install Windows 5 days ago
I did an update
but "Installed on" says otherwise
I've absolutely had service packs wreck systems before.
Very rarely but it can absolutely happen and leave the system unrecoverable. Only way out is to install Windows on top of itself and pray.
the point was their own website talks about when you do an upgrade from like 7 to 10, doesnt really matter what it says for a version install date
service packs arent upgrading to a new release
and Mansen said those can break shit also
the same shit can happen on 10 and 11 :/
not denying it
In fact I have reported 10 to 11 breaking at least two times in this very Discord way back around release.
just that thats not what the microsoft site is about
ook
yeh....
and microsoft didn't even offer you a job after bricking their product smh
My old Sennheiser's are slowly failing, and I guess it's time to replace them, and considering how often audiophilia is discussed in here, I figured I could get some opinions.
- Must have mic (that can hold up to standard Zoom style meetings, doesn't have to be streamer grade)
- Must be actual headphones covering ears (doesn't matter if closed or not)
- Decent battery life
- USB C
- Wireless (Bluetooth, because phone)
- Preliminary budget... 100€ depending on how good value for money is?
hyperx cloud II wireless
God... they still make those? I swear they predate my CURRENT ones from Sennheiser 😄
afaik the wireless is actually just called cloud II
while actually not being the exact same thing
different frame and all
only reason I recommend them is that hyperx audio is carried hard by takstar
same goes with almost every other "gaming" headset option that people recommend
They use RF though, not Bluetooth? So not actually what I'm looking for. Should have clarified - I want to use them on my phone as well 😄
That's uh... not the same thing? Still not BT though
Ah that makes sense.
Hmm... yeah. BT seems like a white whale when it comes to "gaming headphones"
yea since bt struggles hard with bidirectional audio
also a lot of computers still don't have BT built in
and it doesn't work that great in windows even when it does
So had this issue happen twice where in one column of my .csv file, all texts that had numbers at the end, had the numbers decreased by 1.
Eg 500 went down to 499, 3.3 down to 3.2.
What, how, and how do I prevent this.
when does that happen lol
Just randomly
Rn I had it like, I opened the same file twice, once it had the value 500 once 499
So it must be when opening the files
what software do you use to open it
I wouldn't touch csvs with excel
But sometimes it happens
always ends in trouble
Yeah it’s pretty bad
But like what else to use
I don’t need it often just pcb component placement and BOM
notepad
does notepad++ support csvs properly now?
Also is it for macOS
nu
Well csv files aren’t exactly something that should be hard
yea but excel does not like them
can't tell you shit about macos
since I don't touch that os
yeah works fine when I use it with np++
Well it works fine for me usually but this issue happens sometimes
Can’t find out why
but maybe not with all variants idk
macos yeah no clue
lololol
4090 laptops are out
3.5-5k$

latency
It's 2023. Fuck latency 😄
quite literally a 2x premium to have it in laptop form factor lol
yes, fuck latency so fuck BT 😛
Fuck latency and everything it stands for
Drat 😄
I feel like you need a minimum of 3 pairs these days
at least I assume there is some usb dongle that would make 2.4 work just would be a bit annoying to keep in pocket with adapter lol
Looking up that error code comes up with tons of windows forums stuff
4090 is dumb hot, so gotta bin to the moon to get anything close in a laptop
its not a real 4090 in laptop
its a 4080 chip
with lower clocks and lower speed memory
Im waiting for Apple to make an iPhone 14 Pro Max Ultra
Really leaning on a Lenovo Tab P12 Pro
Provides me a good screen within the size spec I want
lenovo is not super great in supporting their tablet lineup if i recall correctly
Seems pretty alright aye
But the gui is kinda hit and miss really.
Cool you can use as an external monitor tho
personally.. if i'd buy a android tablet for that price it would be a samsung one
Samsungs fucking software updater shows ads in it .-.
But Samsung costs soooooooo much more
a dongle would be your easiest solution to work with your phone if you get a pair with 3.5mm output
if you want a more advanced setup you can get a BT DAC like the Fiio BTR5 or the qudelix 5k, which can BT to your phone + act as a USB/BT DAC for your PC, but that entails another cost and carrying around another smallish brick
I highly suggest if you have an android that you get an external amp because Android limits all USB-C Amps that aren't Google's own.
not true
only happens with the apple one iirc and can be bypassed using uapp
wot
I've heard talk about it with others but I know my apple one does it at least. If it's only with the apple one then that's news to me but I'm not surprised
have not had any issues with my samsung one, the $6 one i bought off amazon, or the apple one iirc
unless you're trying to drive high impedance cans you shouldn't really have a problem lmao
impedance isn't everything spl matters more
ofc it's a lot more complicated than that but when it comes to getting volume output spl is the number you want to be looking at
Yeah but lower impedance is still easier to drive, you'll have less headroom regardless by using the apple dongle but it's still usable
but yeah using a samsung/google dongle does work better
TBH these days I've switched to a dedicated player
Actually lower impedance is harder to drive for most devices
If something is 100db/v and 100 or 600 ohms, it's easy to drive
If it's 10 or 5 ohms, you need a serious amplifier to run it
The good dongles can run anything to 100db if they are 100db/v sensitivity and higher than 24 ohms
Yeah, I would go with a ModMic + DAC Wireless.
Eh... I'll try and keep it simple. Will just have to bite the bullet and have two sets. One for my home office running 2.4ghz, and one for running/shopping that's BT based for my Android phone. 🙂
fundamentally a higher impedance is going to be harder to drive, that's just how electricity works, regardless of sensitivity. You need a much lower voltage in order to drive the same amount of power through a lower impedance load. While there may be exceptions with some very low or very high senstivity loads, in general that's just how it works
you're not going to get a very nice volume out of high impedance studio headphones using a dongle unfortunately, otherwise what's the point of having an amp
sure you could get a loud volume but you're not really powering them properly
I think carmonben means harder to drive as in without noise floor
at that point you're getting into more variables and it gets a bit more complicated :^)
idk dont really care about laptops so I just look at hardware on release then get annoyed at naming schemes if I need to find a laptop for someone
helping IT to sort out what laptops to order at work, first suggestion they give us has some T120 gpu and I already know this is going to be painful lol
its not even bad because those were for managers laptop not devs, but like, that name tells me absolutely nothing
I like it, but unfortunately it's built around the plate, and not the base. That means the magnetic switch isn't protected by the steel, so it won't protect from magnetic interference.

new supply and gpu at a minimum
I feel like bought stuff at the peak 😦
I upgraded winter of 2022 then all the new stuff came out
I know I did... bought a 3080 at peak of prices. And since you couldn't get one, I actually bought a whole ass HP prebuilt to take the 3080...and resold the PC with my 2080.

anti theft lock should not be a permanent thing so if it ends like this too many times
make it something like a 6 month lock or a lock than can be overwritten by total data erasure
you can make it less attractive to steal and safer without turning to ewaste
This - It needs to have a secure wipe and some kind of timer that isn't dependent on a global server authentication (because Apple will 200% limit or shut this down at some point)
System is working as intended: Used Macbook market is badly impacted forcing more people to buy new Macbooks
Bitlocker
Aye
Kinda sucks windows is shit for that tbh
But apple encrypt the drive, it kinda prevents running multiple oses irrc
Nothing is stored in my laptop
It's all synced to my NAS
True XD
But you are right.
Losing a Windows Laptop is a nightmare
The thought of losing a laptop isn't losing the device itself but the data and with a MacBook I'd definitely feel more comfortable.
no
you can easily remove the lock before resetting it
unless its company owned
they have apple management functions which locks them anyway
Whereas for years I dreaded losing my phone since android security was piss poor.
But when I used an IPhone I didn't give a shit
lol
I mean if you dread it that much you have too much private info on your phone lol
now i wonder how many iphones you lost
no?
Haha tbh I just find it uncomfortable more than anything, I don't keep important Information on my phone really, at least not these days anyway.
None but I had a major scare with my android phone back then, I ended up moving to iPhone and finding my old phone above the mirror thing in the car lol.... Above you to see behind.
But I also had a scare about my iPhone when someone took my jacket.
if I'd lose my phone I would be majorly annoyed about setting it up from scratch and thats about it
I wasn't as worried and more like aww man, luckily I changed my habit that day and it was in my bag.
same lol
Id probably feel the same now.
I pretty much made many changes in my life to remove a reliant on stuff and store personally data locally and encrypted.
Or just outright cut out any data I don't need long term.
got that icloud backup
nah I dont because fuck them snooping through my data even more
Both Google and Apple laughing at you rn
i had to reset my phone the other day and was able to sort my steam guard without issue, if you lose access to SG you can request that they send you a text to the same number that was initially registered with steamguard
(also you should have kept you recovery codes that they provided anyway)
Apple use Google for iCloud
Or well a majority of it
Not always that smooth
Idk
that's why we keep the recovery codes
Guess I should have said apple and Google be hating you rn
Ye so about that.
My recovery codes were a screenshot
Forgot I disabled Google photos backup years ago
Luckily because I was still logged in on my pc I could remove it without any verification
Which is kinda scary
I've used bitwarden for steam for a few years now

I mean tinkering is cool and all, but being forced to swap a bracket to get advertised performance is kinda ass, especially when replacing the bracket breaks warranty
"Intel has finally commented on the issues, stating that this condition isn't a problem and that modifying the socket can void the chip's warranty."
https://www.tomshardware.com/news/intel-comments-on-alder-lakes-warping-and-bending-issues-mods-void-warranty
I mean proving that you modified the Motherboard would be pretty hard if you just put the old retention bracket back in when claiming warranty, but still. Feels like a dick move to me
Yeah would be nice if people were honest especially for something expensive
Thing is with highly competitive products: If you are honest in your advertising, then you will lose out to the people that straight lie to your face.
Example: A lot of monitors advertise 1ms response times
Reality: Almost all of those monitors achieve at best 10ms, but have an overvolt option that makes the crystal overshoot causing horrifyingly bad reverse ghosting that looks even worse then a slower response time.
Only way to fix the situation would be to have a governing body that has to stop in and keep tech companies honest about every single benchmark.
Sorry I meant that when the end buyer was honest if they broke something serious
And about what you said, aint LTT Media Group and Gamers Nexus sorta gonna do that
Like they will not be a government body but given a lot of people trust them, they do have a voice.
A lot of people do not look up reviews and benchmarks beyond advertising.
The buyer is justified in modifying hardware if the manufacturer ships it in a crippled state. Especially if it's a simple modification
Like what I mean by governing body is someone who slaps companies with fines for getting weasely with their benchmarks.
Like "50% improvements*
*under extremely niche circumstances we won't mention until day of release "
im still very happy with my buttons :p
I like gestures now I gotten used to them, its really nice
I just wish apps treated the nav bar background consistently
some have solid background, others have transparent, some act like its not there
yeah fuck going back to a clunky home button or some shit like that
Microsoft just announced GPT-4 is now in Bing, a day after Google announced that it's launching Bard. The AI wars are heating up! Let's talk about it

Same time that Google announced Bard
yeh xd
there is only a demo you can interact with that has pre-defined prompts for it to respond to
damn guys i need opinion ! 1080p 240hz or 1440p 165hz. i play a little bit of everything i used to be a Csgo,valorant,r6 player but now im playing like tarkov, rust etc
i really don't know if its really worth to switch to 1440p 165hz ( i think 1440p 240hz are a little bit expensive )
i have the alienware 240hz 24"
the thing is, is it a big difference from 240hz to 165hz or i will missed my smooth 240hz
what is ppi exactly ?
you will most likely enjoy the more pixels over the refresh rate difference since its still decently high
You will notice, and it's purely up to you whether you care about the competitive nature or the visual quality
However, you can get 240hz 1440p monitors
Notable ones include the gigabyte M27Q-X, AW2721DF/AW2723DF, and the XG27AQM
sure
whatever you say :)
thats the thing sometimes i play competitive game and sometimes play like tarkov, rust, battle royal game
so yeah the best would be a 1440p 240hz
If you have the funds and the system specs to run it, that would be the best of both worlds
Sounds fine, you'll definitely hit 240 in competitive titles, and you can use gsync in the more fps demanding games to keep it looking smooth
M27Q-X is this monitor really good ?
It is a good value monitor, it doesn't have a single overdrive mode experience, but it's very good value
Would recommend looking those monitors up on rtings and hardware unboxed for reviews
I think HUB doesn't have a review for the XG27AQM, but they do have one for the PG279QM, which are very similar monitors from asus
i just watch a video from hardware unboxed for the m27q-x
yeah the proart displays are always amazing
actually this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qo8B9ksWRa4

i will most likely sell my 240hz 1080p and get this one
plus there is a 17% save on newegg for this monitor
yeah it's pretty popular
Amazon has it for the same price if you have prime
and not on backorder
i see on the review that there is alot of dead pixel
i mean sometime i guess ahah could be a really unlucky batch
QC is bad on a lot of the 1440p high refresh rate monitors, even the expensive ones
Would recommend amazon for the return process
1440p 144 has been hard to get sense the Korean no name crazy popped off
It never slowed dowb
I have a Samsung g5 27" and it has a few gray pixels
I bought a 24" 1440p75 monitor (Samsung S60UA) and it'll be here tomorrow
thats not what happened tho?
since when does their vrm use more power than the core of the gpu
Like 3080/90 and 4080/90 the 12pin practically touches the vrm
and that is "the hotspot of the card" how?
I didn't say that
the vrm doesnt even get warm
oh i see
The 12pin is in the best olace
And they tried to angle the 12pin on the 3080 and everyone lost their minds
Pretty use a pencil lead could connect the power stages to the 12pin in a 3080 it's so close
There is no where better for the 12pin
Other than. The garbage
pro tip:
enabled ParallelDownloads in pacman before installing Arch...you save time
just got the email confirmation, in two months my electricity costs go up
flatrate was so nice to completely dodge any price increase so far
from 20something to 50something cent per kwh
Ow
holy
yup, currently still using a contract from before the prices went up so they are goign up a lot xD
holy testes
well its about average of what people pay now
I think that's because Finland is pretty diverse as far as energy generation
also they can just import from elsewhere...which iirc is done in the double digits most of the time
same with canada and having almost free energy from all the hydro power
depends on where
true
some parts are full hydro, some places full nuclear
other places are 100% coal fired
depends on the locale
meanwhile we have a legacy of two decades of dumb decisions of the same politicans making everything bad so now it hurts
to be fair
a province that is near 100% coal powered got their carbon capture coal power plant shut down by federal government
kinda lame lol
carbon capture is a borderline scam imo
but that aside, last june we closed the last factory that made wind turbines in germany
let that sink in
y tho
politics
this is from a recent show showing the bureaucracy needed for 1 (one) wind turbine
this is what was needed 1999
I’ve got
ASUS ROG 3060ti OC V2
G Skill TridentZ Neo 16x2(32gb) 3600mhz cl16-19-19-39
i5 12600k
ASROCK Z690 Extreme WI-FI 6E
looking to sell all of these, nothing here has ever been over clocked. latest bios on motherboard.
Everything purchased around June 2022
This is not the place to sell your wares lol
I can give you 3.50 yen
just trying my best bro
5 bucks last offer
1$00 Escudo
take it or leave it
$1 billion Zimbabwean
I’ll give you bout 3.50
i want a trillion zimbabwe bucks tbh
they are like 10 bucks on ebay
i got a box full of billions for like 40
any of yall know how to set a different action for a tap rather than long press?
gtx 295x2?
yep
lmk how complete garbage they are in quad sli
i do have 2, but 1 is dead as a doornail
no i mean like in game
cause my experience has been quite terrible with the dual 690 meme pc
and the gtx 295 is alooot older
other than the normal sli microstudder it works fine
prob will have better luck on hardwareswap. glws
not even kepler smh

Windows 8.1 on touchscreen was so smooth to use, especially the app switching gesture <3
I miss that
Android Fast Pair is great <3 more BT devices need to use it
Yeah but quad SLI 😛
660S2 reviews seems to be out
General option is that the are good
But not sure if 2X the price over the 600/650/6xx good
Best laptop under 1200$ mostly for gaming?
You ok Bexin
So my 790i clock gen is bork
As soon as I install drivers for gpus it crashes
Pretty sure it because that enables dma and the bus goes wonk
If I swap with my 680i on the same install windows reports crazy clocks
Fresh install on the 680i works
But my 680i has a dead nf200
~_~
Which was the whole reason for the 790i
So I can only test single 295
Ah then anything but a MacBook
Is msi alpha 15 with 6600m used good value for 750€?
Jarrodtech usually have good recommendations
Gigabyte A5
MSI and Asus laptops you are mostly paying from a premium feeling build and not performance
The same specs from Asus cost twice as much for another company because asus makes their laptops almost full metal
Their words not mine
It’s a marketing gimmick and an impression of the company
Hence the entire point of my comment
🤯🤯
Yeah MSI went hard into creative space laptops.
Like Apple laptops, but with GPUs.
Razer Blade priced of course.
the vast majority of what they sell tho is completely awful build quality
Razer laptop try not to overheat and catch on fire challenge (impossible)
thats really not the problem with them lol
My buddy had a razer laptop and it got so hot it actually set his homework on fire
thats uh
yea no, the flashpoint of paper is at worst 200c
Look I don’t know how it happened
oops i spilled some alcohol on my pc and it caught fire and burned my homework
oh wait i cant say that, skip the spilling alcohol part and we good
I know it is
but at least capturing emissions so you aren't causing more damage than extraction and transport already do is dope
the issue is lots of th carbon capture methods are not a net positive
duh
but it's less damaging
its actually not
that's the point
they went from something to NOTHING
no you misunderstood me
wouldn't be the first time
the problem is that the greenhouse gases are still being produced and flowing around the globe heating it up, the more you produce the more heat regardless of the eventual net energy
it also doesnt solve the dumping carcinogens into the atmosphere problem
or the particulate matter
you need to use energy to capture the carbon and depending how and where, that is a net loss compared to not capturing it sometimes
^
thats another problem
long story short is we need to build pumped hydro wherever we have space for it, and other battery types wherever there isnt enough space, and renewables to fill that storage
so while the idea makes sense, the capturing itself is not doing much, potentially nothing in the end sum so the money and time would've better been put into something else
if all of the us's subsidies for oil and coal were swapped to subsidies for renewables and storage, 2-2.5x as many people would be employed (assuming similar pay) and we would save billions in medical bills for only directly attributed issues, completely ignoring secondary effects
But he don’t lie
who?
Looks like my GPU for a week will be 3090 nice
He doesn’t drink
Maybe the ink on the paper caught on fire
Could be an alcohol based ink or something
Is that that universal remote thingy??
More like a reader/programmer/sender for a ton of stuff. Including keyfobs.
O.o
Interesting
Point of view difference is crazy
Genuinely looks small ish on the second image
welp my new monitor came in. 24" 1440p75
it's really nice but god it feels wrong looking at a non-curved monitor at my left. my left monitor has been a curved one for like 6+ years
TikTok Moron: HEY GUYS, I CAN USE THIS AWESOME DEVICE TO STEAL A TESLA CAR!!!!!
Also TikTok Moron: Uses the device to playback a radio code that opens the charging port of the car
Also also TikTok Moron: SEE GUYS, I HACKED IT! I CAN STEAL IT NOW!
Why would they film themselves illegally unlocking someone else’s car?
no no... they only opened the charging port
Any Tesla charger can open that port too
That’s not the point though
They went to a Tesla charger, recorded the radio code it sends out to open the charge port, went to a Tesla and played it back and yeah
LOL
its probably only illegal if it has any effect
yea its not a gas car
the fact they only did that made them smarter than recording how to break into someone's car because there will be plenty of people happy to sue for that, regardless of it being illeagl or not
if it was a gas car, you just got to pop the gas cap....dont need any equipment
they didnt break into a car
exactly
well its not that easy to siphon gas without equipment but point made
they be like "OMG GUYS I CAN HACK INTO THIS TESLA"
Buddy
ok and now because of it you mention it, watched it or saw someone else react to it, so they get more interaction so more clicks and probably more ad money
The entire point of the flipper is replicating a signal
They’re only doing the charging port because if they copied the fob and unlocked the car that could be considered attempted theft
and because the tesla fobs afaik arent succeptible to replay attacks?
Theoretically recording the key fob could unlock the car in some cases
you just got the record the fob far enough away from the car so the car doesnt see the code the first time when you press the actual fob button
but you also risk breaking the real fob and needing a new one
FiiO FF5 Carbon-Based Dynamic Driver in-Ear Earphone Clear Sound & Wide Soundstage with 3.5mm/4.4mm MMCX Cable, Alumium Shell https://a.co/d/gj6z7CV
I just ordered these
yep but thats alot harder than just replaying a tesla supercharger signal
Ok I have an idea
yep
What if
there are some tricks about jamming the signal, and that wont break the fob, they need to work normally
We tried another car and not a Tesla?
Good idea
i like this proposal the most
Reddit shitpost is better
Kek

Can't wait for my overpriced earbuds to come
@wheat plume did the person ever buy the laptop?
Not sure
She hasn't been online in a while
And the last time she was I forgot to ask
It's much easier to relay a fob than it is to emulate a fob
There are still brand new cars that fail relay attacks
asus makes a PCIe sandwhich now
Is this what they mean with 3D stacking

Wouldn't that cook the drives?
Wouldn't cook anything unless you put that over x570 or something
What does it matter if it's a net loss in energy as long as it results in carbon not released, if said method of producing that energy is less carbon emissive?
Because then that money is better spent elsewhere by trying to offset the energy generation where it is possible to prevent the emissions on the first place
considering where the coal plant was
there were no better options lol
That's impossible
no hydro, no water for nuclear plant cooling, not windy enough for wind and harsh climate would have presented issues, not adequate supplies of biomass or other
because as he says its only coal, you also need to use coal generated energy to power the carbon capture
That's a bad argument. That can still be done regardless. We're not at that point yet.
We are
No you do not
It's just the fossil fuel industry is subsidized to a monopoly
if you only have coal generated energy, what else do you use then ?
I'm not talking about coal here anywhere
you said you need to use energy
not all energy is coal
but in the case where he said they only have coal, then the energy used for the capture is also coal
that's still better than not bothering
Yes, but if they have no other option, then using capture is better than not
that's my point
Yep
You can't build a fission reactor in 6 months
etc
Maybe u can from alibaba idk
there's also that you need ready access to a fuck ton of water to cool it
where the coal plant was...not really an option
They should transition the fuck away from coal asap I agree, so until it's done carbon capture needs to be done
again no
yes
no, skip the entire tech tree until we have perfectly sustainable power and fighting robots
thing is we do have perfectly sustainable power
and wars are already fought with robots
sure
but that place isn't fuckin equipped for it
no
We do not have it. Otherwise we'd be using it. You must be buying ARKK or reading too much into Cathie Woods
the problem is that carbon capture does not work as efficient as to use 1x of energy of to remove 5x the produced smog, it is much lower in most cases
It may have been true if big oil wasn't subsidizing for 100 years+
we have sustainable power fam
but currently isnt
its just expensive short term
then take into account you also add emissions from the constructions and power used for capturing it, then it does work, but a net gain is much lower than it would seem at first
because all of the short term expenses of fossil fuels are already being paid for by many governments where they just arent for renewables
Yes but even if the efficiency is crap, but is say produced via e.g hydro/wind/solar/fission/fusion, the net "energy loss" is offset via capturing the carbon, because spending those few U235 atoms is better than having them carbons loose.
the idea behind capturing it is obviously good, the numbers they show are also good and not faked, they just lack context, somewhat similar to when you see fusion reactors show they are so close to being net positive, when they ignore the energy used to sustain the magnets and co
the next question also is which type of carbon capture
Just make all your boreal forests into swamps. Dat good.
swamps have significant emissions
yes but then they dont absorb
the problem is thats not what people use for "carbon capture"
the two methods that people consider carbon capture are
A) shove the co2 underground
B) use chemicals that absorb co2
that article seems like its addressing A and B is obviously not sustainable
It's waste in the sense that it's a dead tech, but if we must be using carbon, it's better to waste dollar than not. We can always print more =p
the only valid way is to actually plant trees, but the roi on a tree is something like 50 years
that is ignoring what you could do with all the money used to fund more solar/wind elsewhere or research into better methods
What you on about, swamps capture carbon X_x
Well no
how about instead of removing 1 unit of co2, how about you prevent 1/3 of a unit of co2 be generated by swapping the generation for something renewable
and then you get that benefit every year in perpetuity
Phytoplankton has been dying in the masses. That's as big of an impact as trees. We need more Phytoplanktons to capture carbon in the oceans. But we have killed most of them. :;(/
not if they are dry
and if they are wet, they also release carbon at a rather similar rate to their input
tf swamps arent dry
i agree but you dont
drying means atleast here when we use the peat, we dig uh.. streams so they dry out
It's stupid, thank god we arent doing it anymore
But is there anything we could change to immediately?
I don't believe so
I'm really interested in inkjet printed perovskite solar panels. Using rocks for PV panels :MMh
in terms of long term net carbon, even blimp based wind power is more effective than carbon capture
the hell do you think sand is
mostly quartz
which is a type of rock
the issue I see with carbon capture is that it takes away funds from other research because there is no way they have that money all in addition instead from the same pot, so it delays but we dont need more stalling we need the solutions done faster
and it also has no net benefit
I don't see the connection, I agree on principle that all money circulates in the economy.. but how is X industrial company that is corporated, going to explain to their board they will use Y expenses to research random energy production method, instead of paying a fat dividend? They may be able justify building carbon capture for their plant, so they'll pay less "environment taxes" and have better PR among public.
I was more looking at the billions that governments spend
they could instead invest that money into energy storage for their facilities for example and load shift to save both them money and allow for more renewables
Well to be fair, that's what a finnish PULP company called UPM oyj done. They among few others have paid so far 12 $ BILLION to build a nuclear plant and it's been under construction for the better part of 15 years and still not ready
The most expensived buildings in the world. Olkiluoto 3
Actually green hydrogen is happening rn in Finland for steel production. They are making gazillion of windmills in the ocean and they'll use "free" energy which they plan to convert into hydrogen for storage.
Billions rn invested
not talking about that scale
im talking factory/ datacenter scale
or office building
Ah
where you can generally in the us spend about 10k to save about 10k in 1 year using time of use shifted power as long as you have enough power usage
and spending a couple mil would roi in just a few years
Well then I would agree, it's stupid to spend 2+ digit millions to build carbon capture for office spaces 😄
I didn't know someone would do something like that
like carbon capture is good in theory, but in practice its just several orders of magnitude less efficient than just spending money to get rid of the fossil fuels to begin with
nuclear is by far the least effective non fossil fuel btw
nuclear requires tons of fossil fuels to run
its just hidden due to supply chain
relatively?
no
also just like car oil, it can get filtered and recycled
yes but how many 5 gallon buckets of gas do you think it takes to run a nuclear power plant daily
@astral haven My district heating company that pumps warm water thru the pipes to all homes in my area for house heating purposes, burns the municipal waste and captures the carbon, which they use to produce power-to-gas methane. It's called CCU (carbon capture and utilization), which is kinda cool. I'd say that kind of usecase is the perfect example of what is good and works. And money well spent.
and that gas gets burnt and turned into a greenhouse gas not ground with metal shavings and whatever
show me a 3rd party study confirming they are net negative
heck even second party
as long as its not first party
net negative in dollars or carbons?
in carbons
