7900 just killed the 7800x lol
its g3x
so it smokes the cloud withouth even trying
its a 2 year old flagship chip
with some updates
7800X?
amazon price is like 350 atm
it'll prob go back up to 375 or something
but yeah at msrp it's dead
even at 350 its a hard sell
80 bucks for 4 cores
and a cooler
plus dual ccx so double the l3
yeah dunno how the pricing stack will end up
hopefully they didn't produce too many 7700X
yeah windows and linux is smart enough to schedule separate process on separate ccxs
programs dont run in a vaccum
Ehhhh idk where it would matter unless you have like different programs running on each ccx instead of one program
os uses cpus in case you forgot
haveing double the l3 thats split isnt 2x as good
but it isnt nothing
Ehh sure idk how much that really matters though
cpu cache hit rate matters a shit ton for high end processing
like games at high frame rates
thats why spectre and meltdown fixs tanked performance
the cache hit rate plummeted
its why memory latency is king now
Yeah but cross ccx latency penalty surely doesn’t make it worth it for most cases if it’s just one primary application?
you have never in your life ran a single process on a modern cpu so is that really a use case?
os bloat is massive
even on linux
with primary I meant a game or 3d render or w/e the focus is on
yeah
the os run still
windows will schedule background and games on different ccxs
No
But I think its a lot more high spec
Yeh...it is !
ive used wired for ages
so no idea about bluetooth
i had a og gameclip
I had the gameklip, cable and a nexus 7 case
in 2013
good times
LMAO
i found a picture of it
with my foot in frame for some reason
i think i was at the cabin when i took this
? did msi release a actually good 2 in one
thats not a 2 in 1
it has pen but isn't a 2 in 1 interesting
so it's a pencil
Yeah
how does that work does it have a cap
you can also get a plastic tip
no
so you'd have to swap the tip anytime you want to use it as a pencil or as a stylus
now that is definitely weird, I wonder how long the graphite tip lasts that way considering how soft graphite is as a material
Inb4 it breaks like the mechanical pencils
They claim 3 years...
But massive X to doubt
Valve are finally adding wireless game transfer to Steam Deck
So you don't need to download the game from scratch on your Deck when you wanna play it
Games
I wish they added a way to NOT sync graphics settings over Steam Cloud
Cause whenever I play distance on my Deck I need to lower the settings and then raise them when I play on my computer again
Yeah
Local wireless transfer
From computer to deck or whatever device you got steam on
I know you can do it already with SSHFS and shit
but this would be built into Steam and automatically able to find the devices
you tried
Steam data miner and SteamDB founder Pavel Djundik discovered way back in October peer-to-peer Steam downloads on the local area network.
Then, just this past Friday, Pavel found a string in the last Steam update:
This feature allows your PC to transfer game files to and from other PCs or Steam Decks on your local network,...
that would be too much for what this is, since this is basically just QoL of locally transferring the game form pc to deck
really think its just a QoL for having it do FTP or w/e is used and auto recognize the game then
Lan caching could be useful for some, for me it's mostly bottle necked by gbit / local wifi anyway.
Does Steam recognise when you login to another device so you can stream a game to it because you are logged in on more than one device or is it somehow detecting it on the local network?
Also the other way around
Like when I boot up the deck while steam is running on my computer, it tells me that the deck can now be used to stream to
yeah yeah
does that detect any Steam client you are logged into the same account with on the local network or whatever?
🤔
ive never had the chance to test it over internet
The Great Scenic Railway, at Luna Park in Melbourne, Australia, is the second oldest rollercoaster in the world: and it's one of only a few which still uses a manual brake. Here's how it works. ◾ Luna Park: https://lunapark.com.au/ @lunaparkmelbourne

I WANT THIS JOB
THIS IS COOL
probably doesn't pay well, also exposure to the elements
it won't be an easy job should you do it
lame
the amount of time and effort involved in wooden coaster is truly crazy
I remember when I was like...12 or so and the club hosting a regatta was like "yeah, 30 knot wind gusts, massive waves and heavy rain, it'll be fine and we'll call it if lightning strikes"
that was their measure of "safety"
o.o
tbh kiddos gotta learn boat balance and sail trim
no better time than during a storm

all in dinghies, tiny little boats that hold one or two peeps
that and all of em were wearing PFDs that were tested; if nothing else, they'd be floating on the surface and it's not too hard to retrieve the bodies that hopefully are still alive
......I want a Tavor really badly those guns are fucking great
same, but can't justify the price tag for an x95
especially with the 5 shot mag capacity mag requirement here
gliders or engine killed?
tbh
the initial tow is pretty offputting
unless you're launching off of cliffs
but after that, it's so calm and serene
if you can ignore how scorching hot the cockpit is
put two people in one during the middle of summer...
it'll be pretty bad
I'm sure it's a lot nicer in the mountains lol
wait...hydrofoils were a thing back then?
or are you talking about aircraft with floats
5???!!!!
Canada...The same country that makes airsoft guns MORE powerful so that they can be imported?!
:)
BRUH WTF
assuming Trudeau hasn't done a stupid and banned them
like he has the other gun I wanted to get
:(
we have a wonderful gun control regulation here...or did back before Trudeau
ever since it's been going backwards
legal gun ownership is restrictive beyond the common sense stuff before
the penalties for illegal gun ownership and crime are going way down, even though the vast majority of firearm crimes here are committed with shit that is not legally in canada, smuggled from the USA
drum magazines bad

Does tlp actually do anything to save battery life if you just install and run it without giving it any arguements or whatever?
rtfm? :p
https://linrunner.de/tlp/index.html
I like the proposed Idea of removing the f in rtfm to make linux more friendly to users
Join the challenge or watch the game here.
but on the same hand, rtfm

this isnt even a games channel so no
read the fine manual ?
yea... thats what it means... definitely
It’s also now easier for tenants to install it into existing blocks of flats.
I feel like there's barely any room for new homes in the UK unless bumfuck nowhere
Any brits can chime in?
bruh why not make sensible requirements

like "if you open the road for any kind of work put in fibre"
there's tons of land that's more or less uninhabited in the UK
granted most people don't really want to live in those places
at least put in empty pipes so fibre just needs to be blown in
in my old hometown in germany they opened the road 3 times in 4 months cause everytime someone else put in fibre
truly economical
wat
Just cause it’s uninhabited doesn’t mean someone doesn’t own it
Tommy Binnit
does illegal thing
makes youtube video about it
is confused when litigated
You see.... this is why you got to make sure its legal to d this shit beforehand
and that the land is actually not protected or owned in some way
If the guy had asked, the Canadians would have literally paid him to to move into Saskatchewan somewhere
You didn’t see the guy who built a small house on the sidewalk in LA?
The city kept removing his tent so he built a house instead
I had to google this and I love how one of the images there is borderline windows xp wall paper lmao
Lol
Saskatchenwan apperently is just windows xp
It's classic wilderness. Bit of everything.
Cool windows wallpaper
Nightman pretty much summed it up
Not...really, no.
Probably very few plots of land in areas where people actually want to live to meet the fiber internet law.
To build a new home on
Probably plenty of land in bum fuck no where
There’s a law regarding fiber internet in the UK?
What
You really don't seem to grasp the basics of how land expansion works. You decide on a council level to sell off a plot of land for development. Also this law most likely covers all demolished or heavily renovated housing as well.
This doesn't just happen on a national level all at once - Not everyone needs or wants a new home. Supply, demand, growth and economy
Granted in looking at it from an American pov
I mean yeah, just taking about in the context of the article I posted
big cpu releases, big delays and big costs
Is there an actual release date now?
Hey!! I’m at work rn helping to make those 👌
Eh it’s gonna be some OEM builds that get released at some point and just B2B at unknown dates
AWS gets them whenever possible so probably since some months
Ooff
Seems to be the top dog for AI
Though I have no idea what any of these benchmarks are actually doing
And dunno how different it is from the AI nvidia is working on
I have a wooting 60he but when I started using it I noticed that for some reason there is a interference with my steel series nova pro wireless mic I now have no control on the gain for my mic and have to yell to be heard.
I have no idea how to fix it
That's so weird 😄
I know
My old keyboard had a thing where the RGB would cause a really annoying high frequency sound to be picked up by my mic
likely not related unless its usb hub polling but this is the wrong channel if it is somehow caused by the keyboard
Was fully inaudible to my ear but I thought my mic was picking up a case fan or something, then realized it gets worse when I move my mic closer to my keyboard
Oh damn, 8490H uses quite a bit more power on average
I am using a stix 570 e-gaming mobo
can we move your support to #1019755933959733258 where you already made a post please?
ok
please dont fight children
I really REALLY hate my laptop keyboard's lack of media payback keys
I only have volume keys and it sucks
Im using KDE connect to skip the song via my phone instead :')
very useful
is Linux though :P Windows doesnt like my laptop
which is funny cause it came with Windows
I need to download the drivers from the OEM for the touchpad, wifi and SD card to work in Windows
Or your desktop environment will let you bind whatever to do media stuff
Possibly...
IDK what "Media Next" is meant to be on a keyboard that doesnt have one LOL
Incase you plug in a keyboard that has such a key..
oh, right yeah
gosh damn it..now I need to think of a shortcut I will remember and is easy to press
Meta+N for Next
Meta+P for Previous
Meta+M for Play/Pause toggle
perfect <3
Windows needs to add this feature natively, to make / edit keyboard shortcuts
Cause AHK is very very DIY
They do it with the damn touchpad, why not keyboard too?
I don't recall mac having such hotkeys
you can assign shortcuts and shit to taps and swipes of the touchpad
I will investigate
idk if Mac does, but its Unix based so IDK why it wouldnt
wait...
fuck it was on my macbook keyboard the entire time

someone is an idiot
I meant the idiot who's been using a macbook nonstop for 9 months and didn't even notice the media hotkeys printed on the keyboard
you fuckin know it
LOL

f13-24 being secondary functions accessible with fn and f row
iirc physical f13-24 wasn't even a thing into the 90s
died out well before
along with the battlecruiser format as a whole tbh
The old Steelseries board I had, had 34 macro keys you could assign to shit ...
two columns on the very left of the board
and an extra row above FN row
I never used any of them,,,
I remember seeing one old corsair board with a 3x6 bank of macro keys
ALSO
The Steelseries software let you layer these macro keys with FN modifier, so you had 72 macros in theory
only know of it in ISO-DE though
weirdchamp
if you like macros...then yeah LOL
also don't know it's model name
My old G15 also, 3x6 of those G keys, and 3 layers to switch between and I never used them
Well actually I did at one point bind a screenshooting thing there I guess..
I used those a lot on my first gen G15
that's the only keyboard I've owned that's actually had dedicated macro keys
Hek xd
I don't wanna review this, I gave it those perms
kernel compiles per hour, now thats a neat metric
It’s a good one to have scaling that you can actually display with sensible numbers lol
id personally be for firefox or chromium compiles per hour
wouldnt that be more or less the same thing
the only time i did compile ff from source it took ages
threadripper took 5mins for 1 compile apparently
I mean the dual 96654 is two 96 core cpus lol
so you have 384T for compilation
oh and like up to 400W for each
for me on an 3950X
Chromium: 2h 15m Firefox: 19m
That's without the dependencies
holy
chrome is chonky
that doesn't seem right
if the older threadripper can do it in less than an hour
then again different versions/configs probably
The new high-end Genoa processors can compile a default Linux x86_64 kernel build in less than 20 seconds!
Or building out a full kernel with all available kernel modules can be done in under two minutes.
Ooo
AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D, 7900X3D and 7800X3D launch on February 14 The CPU maker confirms the launch date for their 3D V-Cache Zen4 CPUs. AMD Ryzen 7000X3D now have a release date, as was spotted by Overclock3D. AMD have just updated its website with the new information for improved Ryzen series. All three SKUs that […]
I'm hoping the fact they haven't announced pricing is that they are really considering pricing these aggressively.
I look forward to the third party benchmarks to decide either a new rig or the 5800x3d for £340, I see they have company of heroes 3 for this CPU in Japan as a new deal so that might end up coming to the west which would be a nice bundle for me
you know... i'd like a m1/m2 in this chart for comparison...
buy them one 😛 apple aint seeding reviewers with shit
but that chart is also 5 years old by now
If I was to patch the game's exe on my computer and then transfered that exe to my Deck and then added that exe as a non-steam game...would it work?
Split/Second patch that removes the 30 FPS limiter and enables the game to run at 60 Hz; it also fixes physics to ensure physics and power plays work. Created by ducon2016. Run NoobPatcher.exe Select the unpatched (original) .exe Select "SplitSecond.NoobDiff" Wait for the file to get patched Run ...
has the m2 in there
granted its open source data so not perfecty conditions for comparison but since it has more than one it should be at least somewhat of a correct range
thats such a terrible score i have a hard time believing that
I can believe it because I don't think the llvm optimizations are as good on apple yet
there are other comparisons like
but techspot was building the mac version not the windows version
so they were building different things
so I think it's real just not a good comparison for what it can actually do lol
hmm yeah, thats not fair either 🙂
but we are also looking at a 45w laptop chip vs 200w or more chips lol
true
apple definitely has the adwantage that they dont need to scale their chips
very akin to the benefits console games have over making them for pc lel
just to an even bigger degree
until a patch replaces it yes
thats what i said about Age of Mythology aswell
a 2002 game
that got a dlc a few years ago
but legit, this game wont get any update with a dead studio
like 3 yrs or so
well AoM studio was dead
another studio bought the IP
ooh
and updated the steam version
idk if that will happen for Split Second cause Disney are the publishers and they dont like selling things
im unsure if a publisher can stop sale of the IP of the studio/whoever has it now
really depends on the contract i guess
Technically Disney have it cause they are the ones who shut the studio down :/
that doesnt automatically say disney have it
magic?
you can pull air in from the glas on top
LOL
damn
idk how else it could do that
Looks like an O11
yeah its a bad copy lol
ya
the 32C it shows must be when the pc is off because otherwise that sounds impossible lmfao
Nah 32C idle can be pretty normal with a well cooled case
I thought that was possible with an AIO like that?
Maybe not under heavy load though
it would need to pull all its air from those small top slits and through the psu
yeah but how does an aio cool it if the aio cant get air to cool the radiator lol
or it just has massive gaps everywhere
oh wait that fron radiator is for the cpu and the gpu is air cooled
this setup just confuses me
so the cpu could actuall be cool but the gpu will fry lmfao
maybe they use vacuum motors for the fans
Seen the new ROG Hyperion? The side panel where cable management is is completely glass, meaning the side fans can't pull anything 😂
you turn it on and just hear 13 vacuums screatching at you
wait where is the psu
In the second chamber
Behind the motherboard I guess
Like an O11
thats 1 flat psu
hmm guess so, on this image that doesnt look like it would fit
Maybe smol PSUs only
Lol they ripped their case
from that image the case wouldnt fit smol psus only server like slot ins at best
expensive case that limits you to SFF psu which limits you to lower power cards which is how they avoid the heat issue of bigger cards lmfao
genius
wait why dont we do that
have a special barrel plug on the w60he so people need to use a psu
avoids all the power issues
genius
we will beat finalmouse and their gpu keyboard to the race
they stated their keyboard will have its own cpu, gpu stuff to render the UE4 backgrounds
Sorry - Raspberry Pi already did it (simpsons did it)
Sounds like it'll be too thick to use without a wrist rest xd
Wait
I thought you meant it could host an eGPU... Lol
rpis use normal usb micro and usb c
Still need a power supply
ya but thats lame
i want all the cords
we also add RCA jacks for RGB
next wooting confirmed ™️

Use PS/2 instead of USB
no one has that these days except some boutique mobos
I think mine has one :')
Or literally every budget option.
ASUS Prime series is expertly engineered to unleash the full potential of AMD and Intel processors. Boasting a robust power design, comprehensive cooling solutions and intelligent tuning options, Prime series motherboards provide daily users and DIY PC builders a range of performance tuning options via intuitive software and firmware features.
they keep it on all high end becase usb has cold bug issues if you LN2 OC or so
et cetera
I doubt my mobo is high end :')
wut
Doesn't have vram cooling or heatsinks on the m.2 slots and shit like that
Or a bios upgrade button and whatnot
I just said why high end still has it, didn't say all ps2 boards are high end
Fair

Useless
yeah but it wont for quite some time
are there still ps/2 keyboards available
Possibly for retro purposes yeah
But I doubt anyone is making a modern board with one
technically ps/2 should be more reliable if your system runs into potential issues with the usb controller
I mean cherry and unicomp make PS2 boards
This is true though
PS2 also lets you disable all the USB controllers to prevent bugs with high base clocks.
Oo ....
That makes more sense
Although
I can hit my bindings with one hand
Per app bindings work when the app isn't focused?????
O
Oh
Mpc
ncmpcpp is one I tried before
Aha
I preferred the other one
it has a shorter name and easier to setup since it doesn't need a daemon
Forgot the name ;_;
Moc?
Mpc? Idk
It's a blue themed TUI app
Ye ye
Cli is different
It's just command line
TUI is a pseudo GUI
Something like ncurses or whatnot
Aha!
Possibly but I hate the UI ;_;
Rhythmbox is great with the alternative toolbar plugin
Mp3tag is a powerful and easy-to-use tool to edit metadata of audio files.
my love and tag editor of my choice for all my rips
man I that would be useful if I still had local music
too lazy and just stream music now
It was all about winamp in my day!
Those were the days
It really whipped the llamas ass
Windows Only ;-;
Amberol looks nice
Amberol is written in Python, interesting
damn i still remember winamp.... i used it for so long until like 4 yrs ago when i switched to AIMP on mobile and pc
llama whipping intensifies
Number one obviously has to be windows Media player
Ah that was the other one I couldn't remember the name!
I think winamp later on turned into very questionable malware in the end but my memory might be wrong haha
it got rather bloated with version 3 and onwards I think?
I stopped using it as my main music player but kept it around for the visualizers
Definitely wrong, just bloated and some features were premium, paid for
YEAH MILKDROP
I member these ports

never had two voodoo2 cards though
no we are at the point people have a 1070 in 2023
Don't blame em with current pricing
I had 980 and 780 until last year
6000 series are decent, but no one wants to buy em
Bad memory then!
"On December 6, 2022, Winamp 5.9.1 was released, adding a music NFT playback feature"
NFTs, how far it's fallen xD
Which music streaming platform is the "best" atm?
That is years past Winamp death tbf

An audio watermark is a unique electronic identifier embedded in an audio signal, typically used to identify ownership of copyright. It is similar to a watermark on a photograph.

currently using YouTube music cuz I have youtube premium
who is stupid enough to set up a 5k+ rig without checking if stuff works
Someone who works at a place who orders GPUs and decides to borrow them for upvotes
That's who
dont think its free with yt premium is it?
it is
👀 interesting
YT Premium is such a scam.
You pay for it as a service bundle as it's always been.... Just before it was YouTube music instead
is it cheaper for yt without music?
Not if you move to India for the day
you can't get it without
Correcto.
11.99 for ad free youtube and music is not bad
Ad free***
*** In video advertisements not removed
Well, that's an issue that's now entirely down to YouTube
So it's still a correct statement
yeah
Well. No. It is not correct 😄
yet i have a "youtube" app that solves that problem
And yes - It is absolutely up to YT to correct.
I wonder how much I contribute to channels revenue compared to normal users
not really much more
only bad thing about youtube music is that there is not desktop app officially
only a web-app
work doesnt let me use a desktop app
how good are the yt music recommendations?
ive heard linus complaining alot about them...
it's... ok
it gives recommendations with several Mix based on genre
Also a New Release Mix and Discovery Mix
which is just music slightly outside your comfort zone
I was on spotify until my account got taken over by some russian
Sounds like a you problem lol
no 2FA is annoying
Must be weak then because that sounds pretty unrealistic
I've never been breached on Spotify.
Nor on most platforms, always use rando gen long char
well regardless, I've never gotten any google account taken over
spotify seems to have a breach every other month
Yeah I don't really mind it
i wish i could disable my password for google tbh
i set an impossible to remember password, and i use the password reset option to get in every time
and that's why you use a password manager
google is my password manager lel
Tru that
I really need to setup bitwarden but I haven't gotten around to actually doing that

Nah bitwarden is a great password manager.
nothing wrong with keepass but I moved onto bitwarden, it is very good.
I'm disappointed Spotify still haven't released higher quality flac playback.
I ended up moving to Amazon music as it's cheaper, has the same content (in my genres, in my experience) and has included higher quality audio in the price.
Spotify hi-fi has been coming soon for years now, they have been caught off by apple and Amazon charging £0 extra for the feature.
yeah they are in the same spot as netflix
yay online password storage where you have to trust the website
love it
You can host it yourself?
Open source joys!
Independent assessment and reviews on their solution. It's significantly better than other password managers if you want a cloud hosted option.
How so? Depends on the person I guess.
Keepass keeping it synced in Google drive was one way but not the best way. It's not a great user experience for many devices.
🤷 use a different keepass client then
True, maybe better ones these days but bitwarden does it all, very good in my opinion.
Can't believe people still use services like lastpass xD
Does anyone? Gotta pay to use it on PC and Phone these days. Bitwarden ftw
Anecdotally two of my friends still use it even though I've tried to get them to migrate on a few occasions, every time there is a security breach xD.
Bitwarden does what lastpass does on their free tier pretty much so I don't see the appeal these days especially since it's proven to be fallible and their response to the breach was abysmal
I migrated to Bitwarden in about a minute, including importing everything from Lastpass seamlessly. Haven't looked back 😄
Same as soon as they introduced the limit on LP last year.
hmm
does it support authenticating through google?
i also pay for bitwarden
Yeah I've gone through quite a few password managers finding a decent one and bitwarden eventually won me over.
Why would you do it through google?
thats the one feature that isnt available for keepass for obvious reasons
Just use their auth
does bitwarden allow passwordless mfa?
no idea, i just use 2fa for steam etc
-_-
have like 20 sites with 2fa
i dont really like using google
buuut
my memory is solidly below average
so i cant make a secure password
for my auth stuff tbh
rando gen
literally unable to remember them without drilling for many many months on end
I use a yubikey for my 2fa but I don't think there is a full password less option yet, might be wrong
i cant make an account without a master password
and it wont let me use google for login
Oh that's what you meant by Google login. No it wont
it does
🤷 as simple as keypass is, it supports google...
it supports google
No they mean "login via Google" so oauth2 with google
ohhhhh
Not the 2fa code
because I can spend the time and effort to secure 1 account
Yeah that's not a secure way, if your Google account got compromised they would be able to use the key to go into all your passwords
but you can but with bitwarden
lol
You can literally only need to worry about lastpass
It's why it's a separate login
Not a single password i have is not rando genned.
thats the point...
instead of it being bitwarden, its google
Bitwarden encrypts everything so even if the login is obtained gl with getting access
I mean yeah doing that means your passwords could be compromised by Google being compromised.
That is definitely not what you want, a password manager needs to minimise attack vectors.
Despite LassPass being compromised every other day the same can be said there.
You can still have 1 vector
Ah so its more
You trust google more to secure it
vs bitwarden
because google will not allow someone into my account without sending me many many many emails
bitwarden can be the same tho
No you want Google to have access to it which means another vector.
Of course google would aim to not let unauthorized people into your account but that's not guaranteed!
you dont understand
i want to be able to prevent access to the bitwarden account without going through google
sso style
using what
either key or google auth or even push auth
key you would have to store on device tho
[citation needed]
right here...
far as i can tell, bitwarden supports all of the above as a second auth method after a password
ok nah they are right
still need a password but the password is worthless
if you make a key
so a shit password is fine
with my randomized google password that I dont even know (I think its in a safe), I need 2 other auth methods to get in
could even be a nut
They do seem to offer SSO for googlr suite as enterprise
You still need an account on bitwarden though
Honestly
seems rather overcomplicated
for the sake of remembering a single password
I don't see the issue personally, it's 1 username and password xD
ye lol
and a key if you want
which i use for like 4 linux servers myself xD
LassPass is so shit now, i do miss them a little.
THey did a lot of things BitWarden doesnt or just better in general.
I have over 800 passwords in mine haha
But i cant complain for $10/year
i did but i spent a week purging shit.
woke up to like 40 emails once to purge my data from sites too....
Was not fun
It's a bargain for what it is, at work we moved to a selfhost passbolt and it was just so behind bitwarden for years it irked me, I ended up having policy updated to allow me to use both xD
you can self host bitwarden
irrc
ye its open source
Yeah that wasnt on the table as new CTO picked passbolt and wouldn't consider an alternative at the timr
Annoyingly it was his decision and me implementing it.....
This is true
my boss picked sso lel
if the service doesnt support sso, we wont implement it
At the end of the day its business vs personal and i personally wont rely on another service for login.
https://bitwarden.com/help/about-sso/
It does if that helps 🙂
ye and you picked bitwarden and i picked google
Though i will admit i am terrified how everything in my life is via a single loin.
Well, i picked LassPass first xD
no i mean for services that we use as a company
That makes more sense, it's a fair requirement once you've setup with it!
i already pay for google
Ooo openreach has informed me I will be able to get their latest FTTP 1gb+ service between now and 2025... Small window xD
"it's ready, sign up now"
I feel lied to
Is that with data caps as well?
man data cap in 2023
fortunately no those were removed
i use google one thats about it lol
Google Business costs to much for me to justify .
250tb of storage for 20/mo
Wow 5gig up and down is crazy, what's wrong with that then?
I still can't believe data caps are a thing in a lot of providers in America still.
Ah so it's fast but may die at any moment
Rather the tortoise in that scenario I think haha
It's 250tb/1 account
I thought they capped transfer
yes but its enough to fill 250tb in a year
eh
after you upload a certain amount each day they throttle your speed
resets after 24 hours
(this is second hand info bc i dont have a fast enough upload speed to max it out)
Sure? this is weird because the person who hosts my Plex uses it.
And he has to auto swap accounts due to outright not allowing more transfer.
but if you upload gigabit you get throttled before the end of the day
🤷 which account do they have
again i dont have a business account, i have an enterprise account
with a domain (hosted by google ofc)
And they are worried about Google going down on this abuse.
No idea
I also am basically using it like cloud storage mostly
and as you can see only about 6tb stored
So they must use enterprise
ye
i thought you were talking about sub 100tb of data
nah your speed drops off a cliff at 250tb
then they later block you
Either way i just asked out of curiosity.
I know at one point they were buying .edu emails lol
as a backup
yea
for edu the 250tb limit is per domain...
It became pointless to use them or something.
yep
Is that someone hosting many Plex servers or is it hosting Plex with their content for people to stream?
The latter
People need to stop transcoding 👏
No reason to transcode, if you can't direct play don't use Plex.
Well the are rarish reasons to transcode I guess.
el phone doesnt support it, the chromecast is lagging
etc
my phone cant play any of my uhd bluray rips
they aaare 50mbps streams lel so its probably the connection, but still
Oh, this Plex locks/separates 4k content entirely
You have to basically request access and say you can handle the bandwidth
In general it's an entirely automated system
Every user can login and auto fetch content via overseer.
as is my NAS
Ye exactly it's great
But ye, I prefer separating 4k
I'll show you what I mean in a min
helps with avoiding not needed 4k
is where i was going with this
ye i get that
so 1080p doesnt look great on anything
but tbh i rarely watch 4k
even on my 1440p monitor/ipad
does not seem worth it, unless im using a TV but even then i dont usually bother.
My issue is none HDR 4K
ye well
Overseer seems to fetch HDR a lot
thats not easy to get to begin with
now
the annoying thing with two libraries is this lol
when you have 4k/1080p ver
tbf they tried out jellyfin but no one used it
i really dont like jellyfin
my favorite platform is google shared drives lmao
very easy to stream
doesnt work with copyrighted content ofc
yikes
classy
This is cringe
but also pretty smart
Them painting a quest 1? Seems like public outcry is big for 4+ years support of a platform which is in an emerging market restricted by technology advances.
No, using the recent news to advertise.
Oh yeah the outcry from the support being dropped inan year.
Reddit in meltdown or at least that sub haha.
When you think it's a snapdragon 835 that was old before it even released it's done quite well on features and support as it's got lots of updates.
Phones generally only get a couple of years, Samsung do 4 recently so this doesn't seem that far removed considering it was a mobile platform and Qualcomm are known for being pretty bad at supporting long term so I can imagine it was costing FB a ton
tbh...considering they're dumping tons of money into the metaverse or whatever
To keep supporting it i mean.
killing support for headsets at all
kinda poo
especially since the quest 2 is kind of a hard nope
and the quest pro is an extreme nope
Nah it doesn't cost nothing, it costs a significant amount of money and resources to maintain an old legacy platform while the technology has advanced significantly.
In the grand scheme of things, its nothing.
They added hand tracking and multi tasking in the last year, it had active development all the way through.
considering how much fucking money they were losing and still are on this metaverse bet... it makes sense they'd axe supporting legacy hardware first
$320 Billion
it costs them a lot in the sense if it's supported new stuff can be expected on it when it really should be phased out due to weaker hardware
You do business, sell a product then abandon it, they also seem to backtrack on their word about unlocking the Quest 1 for legacy users to do as they wish.
They aren't phasing it out.
and its not like they suddenly stop working
They are outright removing loads of features.
It's also on a very old chipset regardless of age it was a consumer "prototype" really... Sadly.
But they made it work and gave significant updates to it since 2019 so I can't see much hate to be honest
Removing services from it entirely, all from simple party systems to major stuff.
They are removing the party system as it will no doubt have higher quality avatars and other "features" long term.
It's not used by many people before and they tried to remove it years ago on both pc and quest
People use it though, there were loads of comments of people using it with family weekly/monthly.
You can still play multiplayer and invite friends.
When do you think it's reasonable to end support ?
they dont get new features, no system fixes after 2023 and only meta horizon home is going away
idk that really doesnt seem like much
I think its just unreasonable entirely, just create a final working version.
Dont just outright remove features that have worked fine for years.
meta horizon home not being support can hardly matter to people?
This is a reason i wont invest a lot into a phone, also the quest 1 was a lot more expensive than the quest 2.
People still use it though.
this is like an mmo dropping old console support
It's because mostly "meta bad" when meta are the biggest investors of VR and are one of the major reasons for big studio AAA games and developers being financially viable in the market.
And they contributed to openXR significantly for the market as a whole. On balance a great thing but "meta bad"
I have a Quest 2 and still think its not as bad as people say.
I dont think "meta bad"
id say the same about SteamVR headsets from Valve.
If they removed homes for example it would be incredibly lame, though tbf they bank from that since a lot of outfits etc are sold on the marketplace.
Sorry didn't mean to seem that was aimed at you, more the general Reddit type people it seems.
STILL WAITING FOR MY GLOVES MARK
WHERE ARE MY GLOVES
yes im aware a new updated version was teased, or well the proto
I guess there are problems with the party system, when support ends then there will be games on quest2+ where if you were in the party you wouldn't be able to take them to the same game as it's not supported.
Small feature loss I think personally
Thankfully big screen is a thing
i always avoid discord for VR personally.
Its kills immersion
Well
Its a shame Horizon VR is ps only
But i dont want a PS5 xD
;-;
AMS2 is just too good in VR
What put you off it or stopped you bothering?
Eh, multiple things that i hope get fixed soon in my life.
Though i got to used to wireless vr lol
Battery sucks.
But my main issue is room size.
wont get psvr but will need a ps5 in the summer for ff16 lol
I was meant to move into a bigger room in Sept.... last year....
for vr I just hope deckard comes this year
As if
Battery is easily solved with a battery pack on the back headstrap, easily near 4 hours for most if not more.
Aye which leads onto another issue.
Default strap is OK but annoying.... in general i decided ill just invest properly when i move room.
I also got it before the price increase for that reason
because i knew id eventually use it a lot more lol
Oh yeah default strap is a step back, bobo VR or kiwi strap for £20 was all you needed 🙂
Yeah similar, it was higher quality in terms of build.
CV1 RIFT was just too good compared to all of them really, it was expensive though haha
In general Quest 2 did a lot of lame things but tbf the later price was just to good.
Ye, mine still lives lol
It made a niche product into a mainstream product to be fair, the cuts made sense for a big product.
I know so many people with quest 2 but would never have considered it before (very anecdotal ofc)
I used to VR with CV1 but my spine borked and in general it was so much damn effort just to play VR games i could never be bothered.
Quest 2 i just connec to wifi and im sorted PCVR wise, i love it.
Quest 1 IPD was also far superior.
And the screen.. but again for the price of 300 quid the Quest 2 it made sense, especially when the base model changed to 128gb
Been an avid VR fan since DK2 days, ive gone through most of the headsets over the years now.
Cv1 was just too good compared to all of them, Oculus software on pc "just worked" compared to valve (still xD)
Oh i have been DK1 days
Ill never forget the time i wore my first DK1
That feeling...
And it was a horror game lol
Blew my mind... just said 'fuckin ell" out loud xD
Haha I missed out on the dk1 after being burned by kickstarters a few time before then, I was so close to going in and regret that a bit but at least VR happened again haha
My biggest issue with VR and still is... sadly the FOV.
For some reason the DK1 still feels better FOV height wise, i think its because it had bigger FOV height wise?
Yes I agree FOV needs to improve now, we need higher resolution though to convert that to a reasonable pixel density across the area
Shit res, smaller overall FOV but i think the lenses and height give it a different effect
Dk1 had higher fov yep, dk2 also but it was reduced due to lenses and consumer ability to run games
or it could simply be it was my first ever VR experience, but since DK1 VR never felt as good for me.... the goggle effect ruins it even now.
Have you tried it again recently?
I dont own a DK1
Dk1 is awful
The fov isn't that good either
My dk2 is still in the cupboard somewhere. The main thing was the lack of god rays but at least things like the quest 2 are reduced significantly these days
However it has a 9:8 aspect ratio and a very narrow horizontal fov
Even tho it looked shit there was just something about it.
That made it feel more immersive to me.
If you disregard graphics, res etc
The fact that you hadn't tried VR before?
Most likely haha
It also helps you weren't used to it I guess, I found presence in CV1 was more than my quest 2 but the experience is "better" as I can see significantly more
But idk, i had one taste and when i got the CV1 years later it just felt disappointing, the goggle effect just ruined it for me completely.
I went dk1 to cv1 to index
Gigantic upgrades each time
Res was also awful but still tons better but still bleh
The cv1 controller weight is also pretty sweet
Dk2 > cv1 > index > rift s > quest 2 was my journey
i think it was the lens.
Btw
Oh and closer to eyes
And irrc each side had its own screen
And the FOV was smaller on the CV1
dk1 was 1 screen
Ah well, whatever it was i m reading the forums and people say lens and distance.
So i guess im not the only one.
They were single up to rift cv1 and quest 1 then it went back to single for rift s and quest 2
I tried Vive once, i proffered my CV1.
Especially controller wise.
The wand was great for beat saber but i disliked it for anything else.
Yeah that was my experience, I liked the tracking but it was behind on a lot of things like audio and controllers.
Also hated steamvr at the time (still don't enjoy it sadly) as it always crashed or just didn't run properly, for me.
I dont like Steam VR either.
But i feel most of my frustrations are because of Oculus lol
yep its perfect for me as an index user
Never said it was bad, just dont like it lol.
I had the same issue when I upgraded to the index on launch.
I was so disappointed with it that I actually ended up finding a rift s in Argos and picked it up to just make sure I wasn't being silly and it was so similar it was ridiculous to me
I will admit i kinda prefer Oculus's approach of panels.
I like the UI A LOT, both PCVR and Quest.
maybe they fixed it up significantly in just a few months
i got mine in dec 2018
And why tf is my steam vr home always reset?
I had it for 3 months to try it in alongside it and it definitely had advantages but it was 50/50 needing to power cycle it physically as it died on boot (software bug) and steam VR crashes more.
The main thing was the god rays being significantly worse than the rift s.
Loved the headphones and the small increase in FOV but it wasn't worth it after using it for 3 months.
Valve support was so bad I had to keep waiting so ended up using it for a few months before they would process the return xD
radeon or nv?
My biggest issue is value for money.
