latent mural
ashen spindle

cursive summit

What are you peeps doing, trying to make an USB stick into an installation media?

ashen spindle

no just installing win11 directly

stark bobcat

I assume so

Ahh win10 to 11 upgrade

its not a lot of messages

cursive summit

Windows glitched out

Sounds like a registry fix

latest win11 update always restarts with ¨something went wrong, reverting¨ and later it auto updates again and the same thing
what should I do?

cursive summit

I had that one

372 euro

With import

cursive summit

It's a damn devil to fix

cursive summit
ashen spindle
vocal cipher

I thought it would be gone with next update but from what you said, seems like I need to do sth

Amazon says 62 euro

pale sigil

I'll see if bexin will get me one and bring it back

#

So then there's no charge

#

XD

ashen spindle
#

by that time ces probably happend so you can just get it locally

pale sigil
#

Considering the average price is 400 here

#

I don't see it dropping to the same as £265 in eu

ashen spindle

considering the prices was at 415 yesterday still here

#

I do see it drop

pale sigil

Maybe

#

Tbf I can get a plane to bexins for £9

A plane?

pale sigil

pale sigil

It's how bexin goes home so much during week holidays etc

Fossil fuels don't cost 9 pounds per flight

pale sigil

what about flight back

pale sigil

Same price

wtf kind of 16gb rgb kit do they sell you there

and may I interest you in this bridge I could sell you?

@ashen spindle @cursive summit

empty wren
#

Ahhh they added this to Mobile too

ashen spindle
#

no

#

there is no 16 core die

#

they only have 8 core ccds

#

yes but that doesnt turn it into a "16 core die"

#

I mean it's pretty relevant so I wouldn't say its just semantics

#

since the low defect rate makes me wonder how a 10 core part would be a good choice for margins

#

if that will be the actual product in high volume

astral haven
#

soc
its 3 chips

ashen spindle
#

we know the defect rate is not high

astral haven
#

^

ashen spindle
#

7 and 5nm are relatively well known and the yield rates are REALLY good

astral haven
#

and the chips are tiiiiiiiny

#

amd makes a profit per chip on a 7950x as long as they sell it for over $100

#

bom is $70ish including packaging

ashen spindle
astral haven
#

6384 cores for 17k

#

399 7950xes worth

ashen spindle
#

think 5nm was more like 20k and 17k for the 7/6nm wafers

#

but yeah either way 10 core is just odd

astral haven
#

its very odd
but could very well be an extremely fast chip if it has the full cache amount

#

half of an x3d worth of cache

#

and you also get full dram write

#

which may or may not help

astral haven
#

doesnt make it any less dumb

vagrant pagoda
#

wonder if it will be 5+5 or 6+4

#

dont know if the design supports fusing off a core out of the pairs

#

the L3 is joint between core pairs?

astral haven
vagrant pagoda
#

as in the actual structure of the l3

astral haven
#

73 and 82 would be extremely surprising

vagrant pagoda
#

they can fuse off pairs of cores with l3

#

i dont know if the stucture allows fusing off half on the l3 in a pair

astral haven
#

The two threads on a core are tied together, but not the cores to each other

vagrant pagoda
#

zen3 is build on 2 core stacks with 4 slices of l3 between them

#

l3 connectivity is up and down between the slices

astral haven
#

That's verifiably untrue

vagrant pagoda
#

proof?

astral haven
#

5600x has 32mb of l3

#

And 5900x has 64mb

vagrant pagoda
#

yes

#

that is even cores

#

with the l3 addressable all together

#

im not saying the l3 is the issue

astral haven
#

Then there's no problem

#

Each core has its own ring stop

vagrant pagoda
#

im sayting the way zen 3 is built the core pair slices in the stack are designed as a unit

astral haven
vagrant pagoda
#

with 4 slices in on a die

astral haven
#

Good for it

vagrant pagoda
#

im not saying the l3 is the issue

astral haven
#

That's irrelevant to what can be lasered off

vagrant pagoda
#

that the cores likely share some resources

astral haven
vagrant pagoda
#

and all the zen3 ive used always has working cores on pairs

astral haven
#

Define working in pairs

#

You are getting confused with threads methinks

vagrant pagoda
#

no

astral haven
#

It's 6ms to the other thread, and 14+ to the other cores depending on ring stop count

vagrant pagoda
astral haven
#

AMD says "all cores within the new CCD have full and low-latency communication to each other through the new L3"

vagrant pagoda
#

its just odd they havent dont anytthing odd cored yet

astral haven
astral haven
#

The only things they could share would be either cache or execution
The execution is below l1, so it's obviously not shared, and the l2 is explicitly not shared per amd slides

vagrant pagoda
#

you act like there is nothing on a cpu other than cache lol

#

my more universal rainmeter setup, works with any wallpaper

ashen spindle
#

really? looks more to me that it's very similar so depends on your actual workload/sort of game you play

#

I mean, in some applications the 7950x is still better so you take that, in some games either one is faster so if you primarily play that, still a decent option to get the 7700x for example

#

and yeah, depending on prices etc.

#

idk being a solid option isn't really making me think they got btfo

ashen spindle

seems like the main issue could be that they soldered 14AWG on 0.2mm thin copper base, which easily breaks when the cable gets bent a little bit

If a monitor has VRR of Adaptive Sync

But no Freesync or Gsync certification

Is it not going to freesync on my RX 5700?

Oh I guess it will have VRR, just adaptive sync not freesync

Which is what, worse than my freesync premium panel?

#

And it does not seem to have AMD's or Nvidia's VRR

Which is why I wonder if it's worse than other panels with Freesync premium

But the specs are good af, nano IPS, solid refresh rate, usb hub

But thats like a bathroom sink or something so idk lol

ashen spindle
#

possible, but given his meme humours its more like this was my guess

high oxide
#

Well I assumed it was the other thing considering that hes planning on firing everyone lol

#

So literally getting rid of everyone except the kitchen sink

reef patrol
#

Well he DID say he was expecting to lay off 75% of Twitter. If you weren't on the way out before, this is all the incentive you needed.

ashen spindle
#

given this is his own post with the headline

#

or yeah, maybe it is morbid and tries to be funny and tell them he's going to make sure lots of people lose their job idk

vivid vine
#

Well looks like Twitter will become even more shit than it already is

ashen spindle
#

well the deal is still not done yet

#

he still has time to do a musk and be weird and walk away again

vivid vine
#

Hope it doesn't happen honestly, just judging by ex employees from SpaceX and Tesla, the dude is terrible to work for

ashen spindle
#

yeah same, I hope he like can walk away and pay a fine, would be my ideal outcome

vivid vine
#

Underpaid and understaffed seems to be a common theme with this guy

ashen spindle
#

means he loses money and I dont need to look out if I should go elsewhere

#

granted he will lose money on the deal either way since the econmy went down a lot since his offer lmfao

#

so at least that will make me happy

vivid vine
#

Same feelings over here

ashen spindle
#

oh ffs sake I got the new youtube layout and its total garbage

#

ffs why are now only listing 4 instead of 6 or w/e it was videos in one row

im not on a phone you idiots

That's actually impressive

2 degree difference

Furring strips over a concrete wall and you can still see them

ashen spindle
cursive summit
#

I wonder if that's why

ashen spindle
#

that, the account has posted almost nothing but has retweeted other fake leaks

#

and we literally just had fake 10core "leaks"

vagrant pagoda
#

Yeah

#

And it would be 2x96mb

#

X3D is triple stacked

cursive summit
#

Somehow I don't want the 10 core leaks to be fake dogekek

#

7600X 8 core, 7700X 10 core, 7800X 12 core, 7900X 14 core and 7950X 20 core

ashen spindle

buy a 12 core and disable 2

gusty kiln
#

I do wonder how amd will claw back multithreaded performance next gen. I haven't kept up with their roadmaps/leaks.

ashen spindle
#

well for one they havent lost it, the other is zen5 is a complete redesign

#

so change like zen2->zen3 + better node instead of same node

gusty kiln
#

Well at the lower end

#

But yeah they are at parity at the high end

astral haven
#

64 core vs 40 core is parity?

gusty kiln
#

Meant consumer

#

Normal desktop

astral haven
#

64 cores vs 8+16 is parity?

gusty kiln
#

I guess that depends if hedt is still considered a seperate category

astral haven
#

Hedt is poorly defined
But what I can do is go and buy a prebuilt online with those two processors...

#

Also don't forget that AMD currently has the fastest avx512 cpu

gusty kiln
#

For people on windows 11, is that while android integration actually any good?

vagrant pagoda
#

Hedt is pretty well defined as more than dual channel since DDR came out

#

Desktop class machines have been single/dual channel

vagrant pagoda
#

But it has been not terrible

#

I have 11 on my 2in1

vagrant pagoda

cursive summit

Anyone have any clue why my VM performance shits the bed as soon as I set the resolution higher than 1024x768

vagrant pagoda
#

Idk if I'd use it without touch

cursive summit
#

video?

vagrant pagoda
#

For the vm

cursive summit
#

Wdym video

vagrant pagoda
#

What hypervisor?

cursive summit
#

Hyper-V I am using rn

#

Or if you mean what VM software, VMware

vagrant pagoda
#

Ok those are entirely different

cursive summit
#

Idk what the virtual machine terminology is

#

My Linux VM that I had for a long time now runs perfectly fine

vagrant pagoda
#

You using VMware to deploy a hyper v VM?

cursive summit
#

This win11 VM runs progressively worse as soon as the resolution goes higher than 1024x768

cursive summit
vagrant pagoda
#

Yeah why lol

#

Hyper v has it's own gui

#

I have no idea how VMware dose it

#

But you need more video memory likely

cursive summit
#

I allocated 8GBs

vagrant pagoda
#

Of video memory?

#

Is that even possible

cursive summit
#

Wait Windows has its own VM application?

cursive summit
cursive summit
vagrant pagoda
#

Yess it's called hyper v lol

cursive summit
#

Well my VM software was crashing after I upgraded the CPUs

#

Enabling Hyper-V helped with that

vagrant pagoda
#

Hyper V is Windows hypervisor

#

It has a gui

#

Idk anything about vmwares interface for it

misty saffron
#

vmware forces you to disable hyper-v though?

cursive summit
#

It doesn't you can run with it

#

But hyper-v's not an issue

misty saffron
#

just use hyper-v

#

i still don't understand why people use vmware and virtualbox for anything recent

cursive summit
#

For some reason my vmware completely ignores amd-v and doesn't use cpu virtualization

#

It wasn't a problem before I upgraded the PC

misty saffron
#

just use hyper-v and all your problems will be gone

#

it's excellent

ashen spindle
#

well, if you only have windows home edition you dont have the option

cursive summit
#

Huh, hyper-v is fast

#

Why was vmware so slow

misty saffron
#

who would've guessed software used by microsoft for security is good

cursive summit
#

Not me

#

Well there is one thing I dislike about hyper-v

#

The WRC UI

#

I really don't like the overlay of Remote Connection

astral haven
#

Hyperv is just the hypervisor
There are several different prices of software that can use it

cursive summit
#

But it works well

#

Uhh

#

It ded

#

Wtf does this mean

vagrant pagoda
ashen spindle
#

¯_(ツ)_/¯ msdn says hyper v is not a thing in home edition cant confirm it since I dont have home edition

vagrant pagoda
#

Yes

#

My autocorrect messed it up

#

Also

ashen spindle
#

ah lol

vagrant pagoda
#

Zen 4 IGPU lacks sriov still?

#

Odd Intel supports it and amd dosent

ashen spindle
#

zen4 igpu isnt really meant to be used for anything but debug

astral haven
#

And YouTube/twitch monitor

ashen spindle
#

ya

vagrant pagoda
#

Yeah but VM desktop is a great use

#

Even basic 3D acceleration makes all the difference

astral haven
#

The igpu would be the hypervisor display

#

It doesn't have the resources to do more than 1

vagrant pagoda
#

I mean my haswell igpu does four or five desktops fine

astral haven
#

It uses virtual pcie so you should be able to pass the whole thing through if you want?

astral haven
#

Half of the haswell die was igpu lmao

vagrant pagoda
#

Sriov is superior to direct passthough in almost everyway

#

Other than something like adaptive sync

astral haven
vagrant pagoda
#

Barely

astral haven
#

It has physical die area overhead

ashen spindle
#

the igpu on zen4 is like only 2 cores iirc, you notice overhead

astral haven
#

On dies that already support it it's dumb
But leaving it off of the iodie igpu is fine in my book

vagrant pagoda
#

I have no issue doing 40g though sriov nic

astral haven
vagrant pagoda
#

It's not that bad

astral haven
#

The nic itself would be smaller without sriov

vagrant pagoda
#

And send for the smaller if it wasn't so fast and AVX 512

#

How many consumers use it

astral haven
vagrant pagoda
astral haven
#

0 < any

ashen spindle
#

avx512 on zen4 is just double pumping the 256 registers, basically no overhead

astral haven
#

Execution is the same, all you add is more l1d and i
But that also can be used by the ooe engine for non avx512 stuffs

vagrant pagoda
#

Also zen4 igpu is faster than 11th gen igpu

cursive summit
#

It is, it's pretty amazing

#

You can prolly play some low intensity indie games pretty easily with that

#

Or gacha games cause those are rarely ever hard to run

astral haven
#

It's also not as complex

cursive summit
#

AMD for some reason doesn't appear to be a very "Complex" company anyways

#

It's the least innovative of its counterparts it feels

vagrant pagoda
#

You can get 1080p low Fortnite

#

At 30-50 fps

cursive summit
astral haven
#

Yup
It's not like a bad thing, it's just not designed for having features

vagrant pagoda
#

That blows my haswell igpu out of the water

ashen spindle
#

100fps at csgo at 1080

vagrant pagoda
#

So it could easily do many VM desktop environments

cursive summit
#

2 core iGPU though

vagrant pagoda
#

Likely with even video acceleration

#

If it had sriov

cursive summit
#

Imagine a Zen 4 chip with 22-24 GPU cores

#

Now that, is power

#

And supposedly actually exists

ashen spindle
#

yeah that is a power limited rice cooker

vagrant pagoda
#

Wonder if Zen 4 apus will be chiplet

ashen spindle
#

doubt it

#

not worth to scale that really

cursive summit
#

I remember reading about that 20 iGPU core Zen 3 / Zen 4 product

#

Maybe a next gen console part

ashen spindle
#

unless they do weird and it scales to the MI300

astral haven
cursive summit
#

How does Apple handle their SoC with that GPU chip?

#

Is it separate to the CPU or combined

astral haven
cursive summit
#

Cause there was a rumour a few days back that Apple is working on like 40 core GPU

#

How does that even work

astral haven
#

Wdym?

vagrant pagoda
#

M1 is all monolithic right?

cursive summit
#

This boy

astral haven
#

Nvidia has a 128 core GPU

cursive summit
#

"high-end desktop that features a chipset with a 24-core CPU and 76-core GPU"

#

How do you cool a 76 GPU core CPU

ashen spindle
#

how do you define a core on the gpu

vagrant pagoda
ashen spindle
#

yup so 76core gpu so far tells us nothing

astral haven
#

The 4090 has 128 apple equivalent cores

#

And apple is currently gluing together GPUs happily

cursive summit
#

It sounds like Apple must run into some massive thermal problems

#

And probably why a 20-24 compute unit built into CPU product can exist for AMD, maybe

astral haven
#

What

#

Apple is already gluing together the chips

#

There shouldn't be any problem just improving the glue

ashen spindle
#

apple is spending money so amd can use the findings and have tsmc/their OSATs make the glue work on their gpus dogekek

astral haven
#

The power usage is chosen not forced

cursive summit
#

That cooler must be pretty massive for 220W

ashen spindle
#

?

#

what

astral haven
#

?

cursive summit
#

220W isn't that easy to cool

astral haven
#

Vexx the stock 4090 is 600w

cursive summit
#

I know

#

But still 220W for a CPU is quite a bit

astral haven
#

No it's not lel

ashen spindle
#

since when is the 4090 a cpu?

astral haven
cursive summit
#

I just likened the 4090's 220w to a cpu product

#

That'd be a lot and require a massive tower cooler

astral haven
#

CPU vs GPU doesn't matter

#

The nhd15 is happy to cool a 350w cpu

#

And if you are ok with rather high temps, you can push 400

#

All that matters is the size of the chip

#

And these chips are all huuuuuuuge

ashen spindle
#

also apple still gets to be around a node ahead of everyone else

#

so a 76core gpu would quickly go below 100w from just better node + 76 is less than 128

#

and if you design it to draw less, it will also work with less

#

4090 isnt really primarily made to scale to low power

#

and the m1ultra is 120w tdp

Well at least they are still doing a lot of other things so... maybe they might not fall much worse

#

Technologically, they suck

astral haven

No

#

Technologically they are unfocused

Hdr10 is the data type, nothing physical

vagrant pagoda

Nope

astral haven

Hdr10 means nothing

vagrant pagoda

Just data from PC to monitor

cursive summit

This whole time I was under the impression it's some sort of an HDR filter with 10 dimming zones

vagrant pagoda
#

10 is 10bit

astral haven
tropic nacelle

HDR400 is just a display standard branding, it can achieve like 400 nits.

HDR10 is the metadata for HDR signal, same as like Dolby vision.

HDR400 really may as well not exist it's abysmal. You can't have real HDR without OLED /QD-OLED or mini LED.

tropic nacelle

astral haven

You get the 8 bit banding regardless

cursive summit

I thought the 400 meant dimming zones, not how many nits it pulls

vagrant pagoda

10 bit is good to 5000-8000nits

astral haven
#

Hdr600 can exist with 8 dimming zones

vagrant pagoda

Most oleds are only hdr400

astral haven

400 doesn't even require 1 zone dimming

tropic nacelle
cursive summit
