loooooooooot of immaterial windows

#

yes

ashen spindle
misty saffron
#

that and “open world game” don’t really go together well

wheat plume
#

same here except the minimap staying glitched sometimes after the relic malfunctions

astral haven
#

🤷 eh
it wasnt a great game
just a good game lel

misty saffron
#

i recall on one mission i died like 5 times in 10 minutes because i stepped on some rock

#

stepped on a lego i guess

wheat plume
#

My favourite side story was River's, the missions to find the lost boy and rescue him

astral haven
wheat plume
#

Then Claire's is a close second
Second cause I hate how cars drive in that game

misty saffron
#

oh yeah car physics lmao

wheat plume
#

if I could do Claire's story missions on a motorbike, I would

#

but you have to use her gigantic pickup truck

misty saffron
#

almost forgor how all cars there have zero grip

wheat plume
#

YEP

misty saffron
#

and zero weight

wheat plume
#

and bikes have too much grip but get yeeted into the air at the slightest bump on the ground

misty saffron
#

oh nice they added modding support

wheat plume
#

yeh, its nice
if the mod needs an ingame settings page, they can add it to the mods option in the pause menu

misty saffron
#

have they fixed the minimap since?

wheat plume
#

no, still glitches a lot when the relic malfunctions for me

misty saffron
#

yes that's intended i guess

wheat plume
#

but it works fine other than that

misty saffron
#

i mean more of it being dick useless in vehicles

wheat plume
#

it stays glitched well after the relic stops

#

got to reload the save to fix it

misty saffron
#

ah, fun

wheat plume
#

thats the only issue I have with it though

#

and ive never had tposing NPCs so far

misty saffron
#

oh god it's 120 gigabytes...

wheat plume
#

is it???

#

base game was 69GB at one point

misty saffron
#

yep

astral haven
#

download is smaller

misty saffron
wheat plume
#

no?

#

and I have mods installed too

misty saffron
#

well

wheat plume
#

👀

#

hhmmm

#

idk man

#

seems shady to me if its that large

gusty kiln
#

prob a miner

misty saffron
#

at least it was a shit estimate and not actually 1 hour

wheat plume
astral haven
#

I am extremely confident its alot larger than 70gb

misty saffron
wheat plume
#

then why is mine just 70? xd

gusty kiln
wheat plume
#

and the red launcher also says I have all the DLC installed too

misty saffron
#

the installation files are 108gb

wheat plume
gusty kiln
astral haven
#

maybe if you never deleted it and just kept updating it since launch its larger than if you just fresh install it

wheat plume
#

Yeah, Hollow is downloading some shady shit xd

misty saffron
#

most definitely not

wheat plume
#

idk, I installed it feb 16th

cursive summit
#

Wasn't cyberpunk on a single CD disk as well

reef patrol
#

CD

cursive summit
#

And the cap for CDs is what, 60 or 70 gb?

reef patrol
#

compact disc

reef patrol
#

You mean 6-700 MEGABYTES? 😄

cursive summit
#

Do they store games on Blu-Ray?

astral haven
#

yes

fair gull
#

yes

#

BD isnt CD

astral haven
#

and the biggest bluray is 150gb currently

fair gull
#

and both arent DVD

misty saffron
cursive summit
#

I remember reading early Cyberpunk speculations a while ago

#

Something that the game will be 70gb max cause it's a single CD game

astral haven
#

lel

shadow minnow
#

“It will be the best game this century”

misty saffron
#

oh somebody explained it

#

109gb is all languages

astral haven
#

single half density bluray

wheat plume
#

hhmm

misty saffron
#

70gb is english + 1 optional

#

selected in installer

wheat plume
#

oooohhh

#

I see

misty saffron
#

a different question would be what the fuck are they doing if they have 30+ gb of audio

wheat plume
#

what was that one game that had to redownload the whole game again to change languages, so youd end up with the game installed twice in two languages

wheat plume
misty saffron
#

yes but not 30+ gb compressed

cursive summit
#

Does anyone remember Fallout 4 ultra HD pack?

#

That was a mess

#

Wasn't the recommended GPU on that shit like an RTX 2080ti?

misty saffron

vram issue

gusty kiln
#

well it is bethesda

ashen spindle
#

no its just big textures using lots of vram

misty saffron
#

and massively fucked up texture streaming code

cursive summit
#

Maybe Elder Scrolls VI will be made in Unity

#

That'd be fun

misty saffron
#

why

cursive summit
#

And Fallout 5 will be made in Game Maker Studio

silk trout
#

fallout 5 made in the original doom engine

gusty kiln
#

only RPG I'm waiting for is Dragon Quest 12

ashen spindle
#

hey would at least mean people could fix it easier without having to decompile creation

misty saffron
#

i vividly remember adding code to my pubg cheat that fixed the game's performance

misty saffron
#

had to change flags on each bone of each player

#

ca 2018-2019 though

gusty kiln

wish I could find a place to try these

NVIDIA RTX 4090 tested in 3DMark We have some early benchmarks of the upcoming Ada Lovelace flagship gaming card, the RTX 4090. The leaked benchmark scores feature 3DMark FireStrike Ultra, a DirectX11 benchmark running at 4K resolution, TimeSpy Extreme using DirectX12 API and same resolution, and also Port Royal which is based on a custom […]

That card must be massive

They stepped up the supply quite a bit

somber schooner
#

i need a 5090 for 1080p

astral haven

im really sad that amd skipped 6000 for cpu

#

i wanted to get a 6950x to go with my 6950x and my 6990 and 690

stark bobcat
#

But they have 6000 series

#

😉

astral haven
#

not boxed cpus

stark bobcat
#

True

astral haven
#

i suppose ill have to go intel for my 6950x

stark bobcat
#

Maybe they'll do something janky with the apus again

astral haven
#

7000 is apus only (so far)

#

pretty happy about that

stark bobcat
#

Well they have integrated graphics but I don't think amd calls them apu might be wrong

astral haven
#

idgaf the display outs work and they are faster than the a3 series lmao

stark bobcat
#

I'm just looking forward to the full fat apus they could make a lot of people very happy

astral haven

i really hope they go for chiplet apu not just laptop chips

ashen spindle

dont see that happen this gen

astral haven

i know its not gonna happen but im hoping stfu

ashen spindle
astral haven

i think tho my system technically has an igpu with my 5950x

ipmi apparently has video out without igpu?

ashen spindle

I mean you can run crysis on it with software rendering so sure

astral haven

no

i mean literal video out

its via rj45 but still video out

gusty kiln

the back attachments were cool, but think they were rather expensive at the time

astral haven

afaik they were comparable price to the accessories would be if they were just usb

#

motorola why
the edge 30 ultra has a 200mp main camera
and a 12 megapixel 2x optical zoom

#

2x crop on the main sensor is 50 megapixels

#

🤦

gusty kiln
#

Yeah moto always make weird design decisions like that

#

At least with recent phones

astral haven
#

I want someone to do dual 200 megapixel sensors
1 ultrawide that you crop in to like 100 megapixels for your main camera
and 1 telephoto that is 9x optical from the ultrawide

#

so like 5x optical

actually no make that 4x optical to make it 105mm equiv

So looking though x670es

#

MSI has zero m.2 pcie switching somehow

#

The pcie slots run 16-0-4 or 8-8-4, but the m.2 always run.

#

So I guess they only have a single off the cpu

astral haven

Well yes?

stark bobcat
#

getting some coil whine on my gpu time for new psu?

ashen spindle

find the part that makes it and put glue on it so it moves less lmfao

think asus did that on some cards a while ago lmfao

#

ah was powercolor

stark bobcat
#

so far I have only noticed it on 1 rocket league workshop map but not while playing the actual game very weird

ashen spindle
#

did you get higher fps there?

#

high fps usually increases it

stark bobcat
#

hmm maybe I should just cap fps to 240

shadow minnow
#

Looks like 4090s listed for in between 2000-2300€

#

Or well website I am looking at doesn’t say prices but if I filter by price ranges it works dogekek

ashen spindle
#

well yeah, we've known the price for like 2 weeks now

shadow minnow
#

Well MSRP yes

#

So far could only find two HDMI 2.1s on models from ASUS pepecry

ashen spindle
#

well nothing was going to be below msrp

shadow minnow
#

True but question is how much above dogekek

#

Tbf the retailer I am checking usually is more expensive than most.
But looks like it won’t be too bad for launch. Considering current €$ exchange rates pepecry

#

May actually go for a GPU with only one HDMI 2.1 😦

ashen spindle
#

that 's the original article, some cool risc-v news from the intel event

cursive summit
#

Heyo @stark bobcat

#

I think I might have localized the problem after all with the PC

#

It was the Intel 660p after all

stark bobcat
#

lol

cursive summit
#

I removed it from PC completely like Carmonben said

#

And it booted into Tails live USB without much issue

#

I still fail to sometimes get it to show any video signal though, which is weird dogekek

#

But that's prolly due to it just now having anywhere to boot to begin with and shouldn't be a problem?

#

So I guess I'll be ordering a new SSD and a new motherboard cause this one causes me a lot of problems

#

Maybe the SSD was fine all along, and it was just the motherboard, who knows

#

I have weird issues with this TUF board from time to time, like enabling/disabling settings, saving them and the motherboard fails to save them and just undos all changes

ok but when you say "instead of that look at this" and it's the same result.. thonk

#

SteamCMD has issues with staying logged in for a long time it seems like. At least, for the downloads. Downloads which would take ~10s might take over 60s. Logging in and out/restarting every hour seems to resolve it.

#

Might also be related to the amount of downloads.

wheat plume
crisp granite
# wheat plume How they make that happen??

considering engraving is a special thing done on a device by device basis you need to order online
it's likely included in the airpods' firmware or in the handshake with the other apple devices

ashen spindle
#

or since its something you select online they just take that and put an icon of the thing they engrave on the image

#

person orders with owl icon, order shows owl icon

pale sigil
#

but are you using anon?

#

or user login

wheat plume
ashen spindle
#

no it's fairly easy and automated

#

the item is in the system with an id and can be tracked at any point where its relevant

wheat plume
#

Oh

crisp granite
ashen spindle
#

I mean not really, you select what you put on there and that gets saved online so if you see your order it knows what it should show

#

convert every option into a hash and you got a number stored with your account that gets read when the website displays your order

vagrant pagoda
#

It's all robots

#

They keep lids+booklets off

#

The airpods in the lower box has the SN already

#

The SN of your order gets paired with your engraving

#

Runs though the engraving machine

#

Robot puts lid on

#

Then it goes to shipping like a normal set.

#

Apple already records SN of all orders in it's store.

#

They already do that for mail theft. Have for years

#

So they already had system in place to scan sn for shipment

#

The real question is why don't airpods have blacklists like phones.

astral haven
#

Because airpods work without activation

#

You could just set airplane mode on your 0hone before pairing it

slow garnet
# pale sigil Weird

user login. anon exhibits same issue AFAIR. can't use anon regardless for what I'm doing

#

the best way i can describe it is that nothing will occur internet wise, until after a while, where it does do internet activity (normal behaviour).

#

it's not rate limiting either, or, if it is, it's a really shitty one (since restarting/logging out seems to resolve it).

#

On that note, SteamCMD will sometimes just refuse to download an item, with absolutely no reason. Retrying ~15 seconds later works. Just SteamCMD things...

Today will be hopefully the last day of fixing this damn rig

#

Got a new motherboard and a new SSD

#

If it can't boot into Windows with a fresh brand new Samsung 970 and a higher end mobo

#

Then I need to buy even more shit

stark bobcat
#

Which mobo did u get? thonk

cursive summit
#

At that point it's processor that kicked the bucket probably, which would be really sad

cursive summit
#

ROG Strix B550-A Gaming

stark bobcat
#

Well amd processors are really cheap

#

Got my 5600 for 150

cursive summit
#

Seems like a really good mobo that

#

It's still ASUS but the product line is different

#

I really want to avoid the TUF line

stark bobcat
#

Ye that is a good one as far as I remember even tho I still hate asus

#

Tuf used to be good x58 tuf was great

cursive summit
#

I would have went Gigabyte, but the ASUS had tomorrow delivery

#

I found a Gigabyte B550 Pro-P for 130€

#

Which was a phenomenal deal

#

But delivery was Oct 20th at earliest

#

And I have a shit ton of studies nowadays so, no bueno

stark bobcat
#

I just bought the motherboard that wasn't asus and had the features I wanted for a good price which only asrock had

cursive summit
#

I heard too many bad things about ASRock

stark bobcat
#

My 2nd asrock board and I can't say I ever had issues first one was with a 2500k

cursive summit
#

For motherboards I'd want to go only for 1) EVGA 2)NZXT 3) Gigabyte

stark bobcat
#

Nzxt?

reef patrol
#

Have had ASRock all of Ryzen with no issues

cursive summit
#

Weirdly

#

I thought they died

#

But seemingly they still make motherboards

stark bobcat
cursive summit
#

Oof

#

Well shit then it's EVGA or Gigabyte then dogekek

reef patrol
cursive summit
#

Only board I had so far that had no issues is a Gigabyte

stark bobcat
#

Asrock is good tho 🤷‍♂️ never had any issues

#

Biostar is what everyone should avoid

cursive summit
#

ASrock is on the news afaik with a lot of tech issues

#

So while I was thinking of getting the B550 Steel Legend

#

I'd so much rather get an Aorus Pro

stark bobcat
cursive summit
#

The Gigabyte B550 boards are top end

reef patrol
#

🤔

stark bobcat
#

Idk I use asrock, a friend who I selected the parts for does too and no issues the only thing I've heard recently is the sticker thing

ashen spindle
#

if you want usb ports and are fine with bios issues that require some troubleshoot then gigabyte boards are fine

#

but I wouldn't call something with tons of known issues top end

cursive summit
#

Spec wise, B550 Gigabyte boards are universally called the best by most

#

VRMs are better than anything else, even X570s on the Aorus line

stark bobcat
#

Vrms for a 3600?

cursive summit
#

I guess that doesn't matter much for most, not even me since I don't OC

ashen spindle
#

yeah if you do XOC you dont care about having to rest the bios more anyway

#

and vrms on almost all boards work so them being better saves you maybe 2$ on power cost a years

cursive summit
#

Oh yeah the new mobo I got has an Intel lan chip

#

The one that has issues, as well

#

So I can't wait to see if I have ethernet disconnecting or not

stark bobcat
#

Why would u do that to yourself

cursive summit
#

Hey I only got a board that is good and delivers in 1 day dogekek

stark bobcat
#

I always just check what specs I want from a motherboard and see who offers it at the cheapest price

#

And isn't called biostar or asus

cursive summit
#

I think I read that the Intel chip only has issues with 2.5gbps ethernet, though

#

Mine's 1gbps

ashen spindle
#

yup

ashen spindle
#

not the cpu

cursive summit
#

So uh lads

#

This new motherboard comes with cool ass status LEDs

#

And uh, I put the Intel SSD into it, and it still bootcycles

#

But as it starts to bootcycle, CPU LED starts shining red

#

Meaning, CPU is having a problem

#

My thing has 4 status LEDs, DRAM, CPU, VGA and BOOT

#

It shines bright red on CPU when it bootcycles

#

So, does that mean dead CPU? dogekek

ashen spindle
#

why would you put the intel ssd in if you think that caused the issues

cursive summit
#

To see if the motherboard is what caused it

#

Seemingly, not

#

Shit it's a dead CPU

ashen spindle
#

?????

cursive summit
#

I took out the Intel and put in my live USB

#

It still bootcycles

#

Each time CPU status header shines

ashen spindle
#

try live usb after you reset the cmos and dont put the ssd in

cursive summit
#

Roger

#

I have these reset CMOS pins

#

How do you use those?

#

In the manual it says to short them with a screwdriver or other metal object

#

So I don't have to take out the battery, just short the 2 pins?

shadow minnow
#

I have had a temp sensor connected to reset cmos pins for a few days dogekek

ashen spindle
#

just take the battery out

cursive summit
#

Yep it bootcycles

shadow minnow
#

I remember when my Intel cpu died day one pepesweat

#

Nothing, it wouldn’t even try to boot

#

So I wasn’t sure if it was mobo or cpu

cursive summit
#

Even with a clear CMOS and no M.2 in, it's bootcycling

shadow minnow
#

I got so far to remove cooler and hold my finger on the cpu to see if it’s getting warm dogekek

shadow minnow
#

But sounds like a dead cpu

#

Also you shouldn’t keep the clear cmos pins connected when booting

cursive summit
#

Currently I turned on Tails in troubleshooting mode, it seems to be doing its thing fine

#

So no restart yet

ashen spindle
#

should've ordered a cheap am4 cpu as well if you suspected either board or cpu to be dead

cursive summit
#

But as soon as it tries to boot the OS, it dies

shadow minnow
#

Doesn’t sound like anything is dead then

#

Or well not dead dead

shadow minnow
cursive summit
#

Not yet

shadow minnow
#

Could always be ram

cursive summit
#

It seems to be trying to boot into Tails again after doing troubleshooting, taking its dear time though

#

No restart, but stuck on a loading screen

shadow minnow
#

May be ram

#

Try taking out one stick at a time

cursive summit
#

I already did, bexin

ashen spindle
#

that's already been all done

stark bobcat
#

@cursive summit buy 5600 and be done with it

cursive summit
#

I wanted a 5800X3D though dogekek

#

Not enough money

shadow minnow
#

Can you get into bios?

stark bobcat
#

Then buy that one

cursive summit
shadow minnow
#

Try undervolting and underclocking

chrome estuary
#

5600 is a nice processor ngl

stark bobcat
#

Ye that's why I chose the 5600 it's a beast at 150€

ashen spindle
#

for all we know it could be your cooler having bad pressure so some pins aren't connecting dogekek

cursive summit
#

I did everything wrong single RAM dims, running with no SSD, booting Live OS, messing with CPU clocks

#

All bootcycle on OS boot

stark bobcat
#

@cursive summit check if cpu multiplier goes lower on this motherboard

cursive summit
#

28 still

stark bobcat
#

Oof

#

Sadge

cursive summit
#

I dunno if the 3600 even can go under 2.8GHz

stark bobcat
#

I'm pretty sure it could

#

Yeah it's still dying on 2.8GHz

#

Maybe RAM?

#

It's cheaper to buy RAM than a new CPU

stark bobcat
ashen spindle
#

see if you can get a 3100 or something for 50 and a single 8gb ram stick and gl

#

if it wont work just return it

stark bobcat
cursive summit
#

But how does the CPU just die

#

Like, it's sand

#

Sand doesn't die dogekek

ashen spindle
#

heat cycles, electron migration, could be a pin issue where something isn't connecting correctly

stark bobcat
#

Could be a few reasons

cursive summit
#

My pins look perfect

#

Maybe I'll try undervolting

stark bobcat
#

Things expand and contract with temperature

cursive summit
#

On the off chance it's voltage

#

I do have a really bad PSU

stark bobcat
ashen spindle
#

could be pin not connecting in the socket correctly from bad pressure, psu is possible but idk how likely it is since it goes through the VRM anyway so shouldn't affect only one step

cursive summit
#

I also went through 2 different motherboards

#

I inspected the CPU, the pins are clean and not bent

#

Topside doesn't show any damage

ashen spindle
#

not all damage is visible/lack of contact not at all unless you look below the cpu while its in the socket lmfao

cursive summit
#

I also bought a Samsung 970 just cause I thought it was the Intel SSD that died

#

Do I try installing windows on it or something?

#

Maybe that'd somehow work

stark bobcat
#

you can try it if u like but I doubt it ll do much

ashen spindle
#

try a linux boot usb instead of the thing you have

cursive summit
#

I did

cursive summit
#

This whole time

#

It bootcycles after I press "Boot Tails"

#

Pretty much it's motherboard screen -> menu for methods of booting -> press enter -> 2 secs of actual booting -> system restart

#

Each time the CPU LED status header starts to shine

ashen spindle
#

yeah try different parts I guess

cursive summit
#

I wish I could use my FX-8350 with this board

#

Why do they have to always change the motherboards

shadow minnow
cursive summit
#

I didn't so nah

#

Undervolting shouldn't do much anyways

cursive summit
#

The voltage goes down with underclocking

#

So if underclocking didn't help, undervolting won't either

shadow minnow
#

Still try

cursive summit
#

Well I guess I'm getting a new processor and RAM

#

Cause RAM might be borked as well

5600X it is

stark bobcat

why x

#

the x and the non x perform about the same

vagrant pagoda
stark bobcat
vagrant pagoda

lower power and things work

cursive summit
vagrant pagoda

lol

#

i still say psu

cursive summit
#

There's no chance it's PSU

#

If it boots into BIOS just fine

vagrant pagoda
#

you swapped it out?

#

lmao

cursive summit
#

No I don't have a PSU replacement

ashen spindle
#

can very well be the psu

vagrant pagoda
#

you can 100% boot into bios with a bad psu

cursive summit
#

So, the CPU header is broken?

ashen spindle
#

bios doesnt need full power draw to work correctly

cursive summit
#

On the off chance it is the PSU that's broken

#

As it is the cheapest part of my system, technically

#

I'd honestly be glad dogekek

#

But good PSUs don't cost super cheap either

#

80+ platinum PSUs are like 110€

vagrant pagoda
#

Get a good brand

#

They last for decade+

#

I only have seasonic and Silverstone

#

And all of them work still

cursive summit
#

I want to get Fractal Ion+ platinum

ashen spindle
#

isnt fractal just rebranding seasonic and highwall

vagrant pagoda
#

In think I own every revision of Silverstone's strider 1000w

vagrant pagoda
#

Fractals gold psu are seasonic

ashen spindle
#

are they not the same lol

#

good to know

vagrant pagoda
#

High power is good

#

I think high wall is a cut rate

#

Trying to get people to confuse high-power and greatwall

ashen spindle
#

ahhh

vagrant pagoda
#

Which are both A grade PSU oems

#

GreatWall is Corsair's CX and TX

#

They are the best budget you can get.

ashen spindle
#

still confused why psu rebrands are a thing

#

well, to use brand in a place you arent visible sure

#

but why get a seasonic rebrand over seasonic

vagrant pagoda
#

It's more like seasonic will make psus for themselves the best with no sacrifice to quailty

#

But will built something for some one else under a different name with lesser components/testing

#

Or like Delta where you don't sell to consumers at all

#

or Enhance where you dont even put your name of products

#

only rebrand

ashen spindle
#

sure from the business side, but as a consumer who knows about it I dont think I'd ever get a rebranded seasonic

vagrant pagoda
#

exactally lol

#

thats why i only one seasonic highend units

#

and silverstone striders

#

striders are enchance

#

and seasonics highend units are seasonic

#

seasonics low end units are oddly not seasonic

#

ive litterally ocp triped a silverstone psu 1000 times lol

#

had a 1000w

#

though it was gpu OC being to much for like months

#

bought a killawatt

#

unit was pulling 1400w from the wall lol

ashen spindle
#

lmao

vagrant pagoda
#

so i made a death cord and fed it 240v

#

stopped ocp

#

then bought a 1500w

ashen spindle
#

why make death cord, just move to a better country dogekek

vagrant pagoda
#

i didnt want to install a 220v outlet thats all

#

i did eventually

#

its what i use now

#

we have 220v outlets here

#

even 15a ones

#

i actually got a dual 6-20p outlet

#

which is super rare here lol

#

all my minisplits are 220v

#

even though they are 5a

cursive summit
#

Anyways the one I want is Fractal's Ion+ 2 line

#

Which hopefully aren't rebrands

#

80+ platinum efficiency

#

Is 80+ gold good enough?

ashen spindle
#

dont think fractal makes any psu themselves

#

yes gold works

cursive summit
#

Realistically

#

By investing into 80+ titanium or platinum

#

Do you ever get ROI on those by paying more?

vagrant pagoda
#

the biggest advantage to high efficacy is longer lasting

ashen spindle
#

depends

vagrant pagoda
#

because less heat

#

and fanless operation

#

with plat/ti you can get 700w+ fanless

gusty kiln
#

Fsp, delta, seasonic, anyone else make psu?

reef patrol
#

Superflower

ashen spindle
#

how much you save on raw electricity cost simply depends on how much you use, your cost and at what range your psu is delivering power at

vagrant pagoda
#

i think superflower and seasonic are the only oems that have thier own branded titanium

ashen spindle
#

for consumers yup, servers might be others that have that too

gusty kiln
#

Anyone remember this?

vagrant pagoda
#

i think the tx 1300/1600 will be my next psu

gusty kiln
#

Damn dropping 500+ on a psu

vagrant pagoda
#

unless silverstone dose a release with 12pin

vagrant pagoda
#

i still dont know how enhance makes psus so small lol

iron coyote
#

Gold's already very high quality imo but depends on your budget

ashen spindle
#

well the 80+white he has is not quality havo

iron coyote
#

Anything's a considerable upgrade from White in that case LOL

cursive summit
iron coyote
#

If you get your issue sorted out would be good to do a PSU test

ashen spindle
#

that is very flawed

#

its a curve not one % across all loads

#

and god I wish costs were anywhere close to only 0.1/kwh lol

stark bobcat
#

and I'm pretty sure this will increase

ashen spindle
#

looks like you either got a flatrate or lucky, seems like new customers are getting quoted up to 55ct currently

#

ukraine war?

crimson wigeon
#

Europoors feelsbadman

ashen spindle
#

also wtf kinda psu were you looking at that only lasts 5 years lmao

#

warranty alone for seasonic is 10 years

stark bobcat
#

yeah my corsair psu HAD 10 years

#

still working

ashen spindle
#

and 150€ more? you can find 850w platinum for a total price of that lmfao

#

now if you can find a 750w gold psu for 25, definitely take that deal lmao

stark bobcat
#

I wouldn't even spend that much on a psu altho I'm pretty sure over the last 10 years my gold psu has saved me a bunch of money

pale sigil
#

I got lucky

#

My psu was bundled with my 107ti

#

Saved a crap ton

#

I had the intent to get a GPU but it came with a pretty decent EVGA PSU

iron coyote
#

Eh just an estimation, I reckon seeing some Gold at 90% as well iirc

reef patrol
#

I dread having to replace my 700W Titanium from Seasonic pepecry

iron coyote
#

But it's more or less a 2% difference between

stark bobcat
#

again there is an efficiency curve to these things

iron coyote
#

Yep though in most cases the gap may not be big enough to justify the price difference

ashen spindle
#

the 50% non-redundant load minimum for gold is 90% so yes, I imagine every single one you saw had that 😛

stark bobcat
ashen spindle
#

otherwise it wouldn't get gold

#

again, it's a curve

#

different values at different points

fair gull
#

the rating only says it CAN output X % of its stated power

ashen spindle
#

also difference of 115V vs 230V values

#

also they are required to have higher powerfactor correction values at higher tiers as well

iron coyote
#

I'm guessing the curve is dependent on wattage ?

ashen spindle
#

% of max power draw

#

so 50% value for a 800W psu would be when it draws 400

iron coyote
#

Ah I see

#

So if I understood correctly it would be ideal to match the top curve with your expected power draw ?

#

In terms of efficiency

ashen spindle
#

no it would ideal to have a powerdraw of around 50% of what your psu can do since the efficency curves are the best around that value

#

the different 80+ ratings just make higher and higher curves that a psu needs to meet or exceed to get the rating

iron coyote
#

Aah

#

So a PSU that's twice what you'd usually draw

#

Considering the highest load possible you'd be able to do ?

#

Trying to understand because this all is pretty interesting 😄

ashen spindle
#

around what you usually draw yes, with enough headroom if you do draw more

#

so for a game you never will hit 100% load on cpu on gpu at the same time but you still want some headroom for spikes

iron coyote
#

Makes sense

#

All this is making me think about upgrading my PSU now haha

hasty star
#

Hi

iron coyote
#

Sup

shadow minnow
#

It depends on specific PSUs too, most provide exact curves

#

Sometimes the efficiency is best at 60% though above 80% is usually when it really goes down

iron coyote
#

Yeah I think I even saw a curve that had better efficiency at 40% even ?

ashen spindle
#

when that happens it's usually a model that's rated a bit higher/lower than it probably should

fickle ore
#

It's usecase specific as well, if all you do is discord-fighting and utube, you'll never need 2x ur peak transient load, because your modal usage will be closer to 0-20% load than 50% load.

ashen spindle
#

yeah but you cant really underspec your psu for that

#

and while the efficency is worse relatively when in that load area, the total amount of the difference becomes less relevant

#

2% less efficent at 50w powerdraw matters less than at 700W

fickle ore
iron coyote
#

If you want to optimize probably better to run tests with different loads and compare I'm guessing 😄

fickle ore
#

But yeah, you might start gaming in the future, so getting one that is 2x is prob good for future-proofing. But for servers I imagine the calc is a bit more complex

astral haven
#

Nah it's easier when everying is running full bore 24/7

ashen spindle
#

well it depends how you get to that total load, if you have a 600W gpu I would never put that onto just 1000w psu dogekek

astral haven
#

For stuff like overclocked Maxwell where when it is 600w it's nearly smooth and transientless

fickle ore
#

God I actually need a new PSU. WTB titanium ATX 3.0 spec'd seasonic

iron coyote
#

I use a UPS so I had to make sure max load didn't go over its limits in case it needs the battery x.x

astral haven
#

Meh my pau won't be beat for another few years

astral haven
#

I would highly suspect lower transients on that high a power gpu

gusty kiln
#

wonder if a 4090ti would even be a fully unlocked gpu

astral haven
#

No

ashen spindle
#

well, fully unlocked A102 perhaps, but not an A100

#

but even then likely not

astral haven
#

But the peak of the transients will be the same between the 4090 and it

#

The thing is the transients are just the device using as much power as it can before it gets limited for one reason or another

#

The 4090 TI may or may not use more average power than the 4090 but in terms of transients they will reach similar peaks

ashen spindle
#

the power daw will depend upon how strong navi31 is because if they need to make it 550w, if they can, to have the better numbers, they will

astral haven
#

I want a successor to the 295x2 and the 7990

#

Reminder that amd still holds the consumer GPU tdp crown

iron coyote
#

Alrighty the tests are done

#

Full GPU load gets very close to 50% PSU Load

#

Full load on both CPU & GPU gets me to ~59%

#

Idle gives me ~15%

#

Numbers look good.. what do you think ?

ashen spindle
#

yeah thats absolutely fine

iron coyote
#

Ah also full CPU load is ~30%

#

Good to know !

vagrant pagoda
#

Reactivate regulation

astral haven
#

Nah

#

If that happened on modern GPUs we'd see 1.2-2kw transients

vagrant pagoda
#

The card should have enough primary/secondary caps to cover it

#

Or taper the power delivery to match the capacity they havem

astral haven
#

The transients come from the GPU actually using that amount of power...

vagrant pagoda
#

Yeah

#

And there is no need for that

astral haven
#

?

vagrant pagoda
#

Taper in the load in software.

astral haven
#

That would make the performance worse

#

And it's happening below the frame scale

vagrant pagoda
#

yeah and it should have enough capacidence to prevent the spikes

I feel like we're moving goalposts now. No just the RAM.

I need iCue running to get my fans to show anything cause my controller from Corsair has no onboard memory.

#

If I don't want RGB on my fans I just don't plug it in (or spend a fortune on them)

I'm just saying tearing out the strips on Gskill is overkill 😁
