Soon™️ ofc
yes abut actually soon, probably
Riiiight
well most recent info is that its like what, 2 months or so away from risk start with pretty good yield
So not soon enough
Hunh
Alr
Products next year q2 at the latest is pretty soon
ya and since SS3 seems to be doing the usual and not be as great despite or perhaps because of GAA it's gonna be the best even if its not a big increase
I almost want intel to bounce back and be the first with a decent gaa node lol
but that doesnt seem likely
I want everyone to have a good gaa node so there's cutthroat competition on it...
Screw each of those companies individually
yeah that too
It would be a disaster if we lost another company to a gate type
Finfet put glofo on the back foot so that the euv transition would be too expensive for them...
just skip one iteration of fets and join later, surely that wont be an issue
skip 1nm and just hop onto xray, simple
Well if burn in didn’t exist would be more hype
AMD Ryzen 7000 in Cinebench R23 According to hardware leaker @greymon55, AMD mid-range Ryzen 7000 SKUs will score above 1900 points. Greymon claims that in single-core test, Ryzen 5 7600X scores 19XX points, while Ryzen 7 7700X up to 20XX range. If only ST cores were to be considered, 7600X would score around Core i7-12700K, […]
I hope I can get a new gen GPU before February since hogwarts legacy
No it's 256b accelerated
Fp32x8
hmm did I just misremember it then or was I thinking of something else
"Hey Google, play Kimi Wa Dekinai Ko"
O.o
My shitty pronunciation of Japanese worked!!
It played the right song
Really appreciate the objective review of VOID from crinacle.
We regret that it has to delay for further improvement. VOID owners please keep the packaging and S/N, wherever you got/purchased it, you can replace it after upgraded version is available.

Thats surprising, it's bad that they seem to have released a disappointing product in the first place as surely they could have seen this before release??
However it is surprising and good of them to accept criticism like that and aim to rectify it
If you look at UK reseller it's been empty for like 2 years xD.
Crazy, easier to buy from their US store and just gamble on hardware fault
What do you mean pay double? The US site was usually cheaper atleast than the UK
Ah fair enough, makes sense on the cheaper items as the $50 shipping eats into it, for the UK looks like you would spend an extra £35ish all including taxes than the UK site which has been sold out for years xD
Also delivery is a lot
And the $50 is pre tax which I doubt they will be willing to handle anyway
It's $59 sorry for shipping so probably nearer £40 which then makes a bit more sense on an item that is originally £120 you paying £160 it is a percentage jump
If you buying something big like what is it a bifrost nearing £800 it's cheaper overall I clouding taxes /handling than the UK site
That doesn't include shipping
VAT, import fee and handling fee
Totals to £56 from $50 item values
That doesn't include duty
Couldn't be assed finding the duty code
It's a duty free item so just VAT I believe +handler charge whoever posts it
Still seems bad they get quite poor stock to the European market overall
So the price I sent them
Then
I know most companies charge £5 for handling
So what I said tino
Just add a litle more to it
We are at 20%
Alright I just did the maths to make sure I'm not an idiot and so people can ignore me xD.
£161 + shipper handling charge I don't know who it is so say RM isn't it £10?
So I'm totally wrong on being cheaper but I will say "similar" haha
£5 is usually handling fees
And you get it shipped next day
That's pre tax
Which varies on state
But still cheaper
Have you seen tax in the IS
US
It would be £166 total delivered in every fee then to UK
It ain't $6
But regardless
I noticed this the other week myself
It's so unfair
There's state tax tino
Yeah it is part the reason why when companies announce USD pricing it seems to go 1:1 to GBP because the USD price always excludes tax due to how different states have different taxes..
Our 20% vat pretty much negates the currency value difference (it definitely does now it tanked....)
I thought there was multiple taxes
State and country tax
Hmm strange, when I bought an apple usb c dongle I was paying a few dollars in tax just for 2 of them
I was really surprised how high it was
Why do people complain so much about California tax so much then.
Opening my eyes, I want to say there's gotta be more to it but it's America.
Yeah if you aren't used to paying a tax then of course it feels like a rip off
aaaa what now?
I think this is income tax though
That's taxes relevant to GDP, what's to be mad about?
I got the wrong one
aye, tis GDP
Bloody lost it
though we are a country that supposedly hates taxes or have lots of people that don't like it or refuse to want to have services that includes taxes. BUT we are a nation that will gladly throw away all our money if it's a "subscription" instead of a tax.
I had a chart showing % of taxes in different countries
would it include each different state too?
Think it was an average
This system just seems so messy
I remember when a lot of people abused the fact Amazon didn't charge taxes in every state
Now you understand why they decided to list without sales tax
Oh I knew that already
I've been to America and bought from manu times
I also bought goods in America that got delivered to my friends boyfriends and she brought them home.
I've never been, I know people who have and everytime the rant is how backwards America is xD
No contactless payments and tips for something that should be standard service
I've been twice and I'd be shopping thing omg that's cheap!
Then I remember oh right
Id be shopping for cheese puff's, see them for $2 and think eh alright whatever.
Then I remember
Why are things not $1 in America too
Here I can get a big bag of cheap cheese puff's for £0.89
And why can't we have cans like this here
So cool
@pale sigil thats cause for longest time we didn't have any laws or such saying that things from the internet required taxes or such. Also in terms of prices : it depends where you are. Those specific chips I buy tons of times for a dollar where I'm at. Though for the past year or two it's gone up by 20 or 30 cents and probably higher by now.
But in other states yeah it's gonna be different pricing depending on the minimum wage. Because companies are going to be gouging prices like that and blame people's wages on it.
Pretty sure it can
Fucking nobs
Releasing a new version before the V2 isn't finished
Without a single word
Take this with a grain of salt tho
also if something can do something and if a device is made correctly so it works correctly are different things quite often when it comes to video output
Yes
But it depends on something
But I know you can for example daisy chain displays through DP
But I am not sure if they just split lanes or how does it work
And support depends on each device
This Steam Deck Dock Option has dual HDMI output ports, x1 USB 3.0 port, x2 USB 2.0 ports an SD Slot and a microSD slot. If you own a Steam Deck, one of the first things you may want to do is connect it up to a TV or Monitor and this video will show you just how to do it! We'll connect a number of devices including: wired xbox 360 controller, ...
This guy did multi monitor on steamdeck
So yeah it works
What's the point in the dock just use an average usb c hub they should "just work".
Or do you use the display while it's docked or something?
@fickle ore seems mactype can fix it quite well now if people have issues with the green/purple around text https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=52eiLP3Zy-s

Cleaner setup
I mean it's a usb c dock shown above doesn't really solve that? You have the exact same usb c port you have to plug into with a hand rather than slide in guided via rails and can't you just lay it flat it's not a light item?
You are missing the point
As pleasant just said cleaner setup I guess
Shame it's not a guided slide in thing though whereas the way above you are just using as a normal USBC hub that you can get today that was all
Well they already make these so you can get this today
None came with a hub? 🙂
But the one for the switch slides down onto usb c connection whereas this one you actually have to put up a cable and plug it in after setting it down, it's not the same.
Oh it is out now? Sorry I thought it was still delayed, I assumed the screenshot above was them announcing a new model my apologies
3rd party
Omg I thought this was the valve one xD
I don't get the question
With the hub you can get from Nintendo you drop the switch down and it slots onto a USBC connector in the middle so there is no cable you have to use.
The one above you have to actually slide it down to rest then put up a cable and plug it in from the back
Yeah which is still nicer than having a hub hang off it and putting it in a separate stand
More convenient and nicer looking
The slide in thing is cool but 🤷♂️ I don't see it being substantially better at least from my experience owning a switch
Especially since you can still use the sd screen when it's right side up which is nice if you don't plan on using an external monitor
Advantages and disadvantages to the slide in design imo
Sigh, I just want to be able to use multiple monitors
Steamdeck should have had usb at the top and bottom tho
You can with other hubs
Yeah just meant for an easier use in comparison to the cheap usb-c hub that was all, I thought that one above was the valve one which was like £60 preorder which seemed insane (to me)
But that's just more money with messy setups
I just want to learn it on the dock and have an io
A clean one
Tru
When did you buy it? Can't you return it?
I'm waiting for valve dock
Actually the switch dock is pretty bad
Its terrible for ventilation and can lead to scratching the console
Send it back and get the new one haha
Yes it's atrocities but the idea isn't bad just cheap
I'm hoping to cancel
Oh. Yeah
They charge for postage and shipping back to America
Oh my, that feels bad man!
You don't gen enough heat to care to much
Me just being a patient boy confident valve will deliver something solid
You shouldn't be plugging it into a display to do serious gaming
I've had my deck for months already XD
For the switch, mostly does t get too hot. But the deck : it can get hot indeed
Hey even candy crush can be serious at times!
Same
I cant stop playing on my deck even though i want to vr instead
I'm just so annoyed, I waited so long to find a solution to my goal.
I caved in and bought this
Still prefer my pc but it's goated for travelling and commuting
Bam two days later solution
There was plenty of USB devices to allow multiple monitors
Just create the fucking product and stop re releasing it before others
There's no decent ones unless they cost £100 or don't have hdmi 2
Well, true. I already had the luck of 4 stupidly expensive thunderbolt ones that i got essentially free.
Do you mean hdmi 2.0 or 2 hdmis?
You trying to run it on a 4k TV/monitor I take it? Are there even games it can run at 4k 60fps?
Ah fair enough, hadn't really thought about the deck being used out of games!
I can’t help you pay taxes

If you are going to commit tax evasion, you have to dress up as a turnip.
Heh
7950X3D
Why the big boy
Oh
Oh dear
Me?
yes but hes just guessing what is likely correct
More important is when 7800X3D launches
the only reason we dont have the 5950x3d is because they are so constraint on supply they put it all into server
might be later, might be same time or even never
honestly depends on what intel launches and what the supply looks like
amd can change what they want to make relatively late into the cycle

Aaaaaaa
If anyone is running both an Arch linux and a grub, as in like if you are dual booting your Steam Deck @pale sigil. :
DONT UPDATE YOUR GRUB
There's apparently been an issue with grub that has been causing some boot fails.
I have to chroot my main computer now because i updated to the faulty grub without checking for faults in updates first
Doesn't surprise me
Man i love chroot. Can just. Go into the system and fix shit and get it working again.
Anyone know where to buy genexis/inteno modemrouters and are they any good?
https://videocardz.com/newz/nvidia-geforce-rtx-4060-ti-rtx-4060-get-first-rumored-performance-claims
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Series are fast but also power hungry The rumors come from @QbitLeaks, who is supposedly sharing RTX 40 “Lovelace” specs and performance claims over his Twitter. According to the leaker, RTX 4060 Ti is pulling up to 270-280W of power while reaching 8600 score in 3DMark Time Extreme, which is actually […]
I just hope I can get a 4080 in February
so when those fancy new cpus come out
No but when I am back from uk for a week
And hogwarts legacy
I have a cpu already
Nope
Never had a dGPU
Actually never in any of my devices
Just iGPUs
In uk most of the time without the pc, so first didn’t get a GPU because of low stock pricing and now not getting it because next gen is close
announcement this week for amd likely, amd and intel should launch in around a month
Any rumors on when GPUs get anounced?
nice
hopefully I got enough funds to splurge by then
yeah been building and selling some electronics but business is slower than its ever been
got some $600 saved up for parts, would like to at least double that before I go shopping
since you are likely not shooting for best gpu possible used can also be great value since the market is a bit flooded now so that should make it quite enticing
Especially like 4080 range
skipping gpu this time around, my 2060 will have to hang on for a bit longer
My Intel UHD 750 kinda wants to stop having to be my main system GPU
My mobo doesn’t allow me to set its voltage above 1.3v so limited to 1650mhz too
just want to get the fastest cpu and ram I can afford, and mobo/cooling to support it
I have fast ram but combined with oced GPU it’s not stable enough since it has to function as vram
Or well
Fast for the time
But it’s DDR4
I am definitely not buying a new cpu so no ddr5 either
Have RKL and 4266mhz DDR4
Also pcie 4 ssd, should be enough for a while
Just if I could get a dGPU in February
Funnily because of distributor mistake I got my SSD before it was actually released
my system is very high end, by 2015 standards

copes surprisingly well with most games and applications I use, but some titles am holding off for a better system
I am surprised by how well I can run battlefield V and bioshock infinite
The 4000 series will be sometime in q4, probably announced in late September and out in November.
AMD cards are likely to be out similar time.
with the extreme cost of power right now it has meant mining is not worth it at all so I would actually expect some normality to resume for GPU launches so it might be worth actually seeing whose better at which price point or just get it from a retailer who has a good returns policy
am kinda concerned how well my psu will handle future gen cards with the way the power consumption and peak/spike draw is playing out
Wish Corsair didn’t discontinue the 1000w PSU I wanted to get just a month before I had to get a PSU
aren't there other options as good
plenty of others but not a good idea to overspec for what you dont need
Well I am still worried 850 won’t be enough for watercooled OC
I probably won't bother much with OC on a higher end card but still concerned if 750W would cut it
it will
since you're not going to max out gpu and cpu at the same time in any game
I only really oc my current rig because it sorta needed to keep up a bit better
september 27th for expected cpu launch date to be precise btw
I hope same or earlier for GPUs
no chance

19th september nvidia might announce something during gtc but nothing more
ugh need to build more stuff to sell but sales so slow my motivation is close to zero

you a hawker?
Gpus gonna get delayed due to excessive 3000 stock xd
only on nvidias side and at most by a month if at all
Ngl, Despite the crypto crash, I’m 100% the new gpus are still gonna get scalped.
my first time hearing that term
but no, I make music stuffs
nothing to do with crypto, just normal demand/supply and them being sold out is something thats also been normal for older releases
Mom I need a gaming PC for zoom
those people selling stuff on the street
although I might've been a tad derogatory
since it's usually fake copies of say leather purses and shit
Vegans probably would not feel scammed
yeah did a google, don't see that very often here these days, they typically crawl out from their lairs at public events to where the crowds are
the illegal aspect can be seen in their name, makes me think of those people selling hawk talons
Where
well advertising is definitely becoming of higher quality
products are stagnating
i mean, at least we aren't inventing completely new concepts these years
my take is that this can only be determined when we go through the internet archives, see manuals for example a keyboard, see if the same fixes happen for complicated stuff
like they work/don't work
i.e. upgrading a laptop keyboard, if the cables are soldered then we know that ain't possible
only way we'd wanna open up a laptop, is because the guide said so
and reasoning for this soldering of internal cables? Likely because stock is by then higher quality than aftermarket. At least if framework did this
the idea I was trying to come up with was that because they would use lower quality materials, at least in the early stages they would resort to lower quality measures. Such as soldering stuff to motherboards (custom PC.exe has been terminated). But then there would be the "cloning' of higher end procedures just slightly adjusted to suit lower quality things as to trick the general public and rake in enough currency to purchase the rare supply of genuine high quality chips. So from them onward, the only way to genuinely tell a lower quality from high would be repair protocols/methods for certain components from the past which would indicate something has stayed the same or changed.
At first, modular PSUs might go extinct. Then they could come back, but the only way for it to be modular would be to purchase a cable from the same company producing that model of PSU as a replacement/better aesthetics etc etc. The only way we'd tell, if media doesn't realise/find out and tell us, is by sticking in say a Corsair cable into an EVGA PSU and watching a kaboom
if we weren't loyalists to one company before that started happening.
ofc I'm sometimes gullible and take things as true, so I can't comment on the validity of that message posted as a ss
I'm braindead; even in proper circumstances don't try this at home
never mix and match PSU cables
power cables would've been a better choice of analogy
like how in the old days one company's wiring would only be useful for the same company's electronic products
because the port was incompatible with other companies stuff
indeed
but that would be by old standards. Eventually people will register that as normal, and quality as a whole being "good" would be worse than now.
Why the brain farts
this will always happen what an unnecessary message
when the army general who's also a tech nerd says "soldiering" instead of "soldering"
US Army -
soldier on private
he would not have a pleasant future to look forward to if he ditched his boss when they were being pursued by police
sheesh, feels like you could buy cocaine for less than some components go for these days
Tis fine
Pepe using non leaded solder
Oh and non flux
That is what makes eyes water
could probably work, if I find a place that ships here
I don't really need it to build stuff, but for repairing old equipment I really don't want to poke around with a 380c tip
most solder has some amount of flux mixed in
yeah that's the stuff am using heh
smells resiny indeed
got some pure liquid flux too but don't need to use it much
Anyways good idea to buy good solder too
meanwhile louis rossmann be like dumping half a tube of flux on anything he desolders

Will helpss well
yeah not worth trying to save on cheap solder, it'll just frustrate you
my favourite lead-free one got too pricy tho so I get some stannol that's almost as good
Hmm
I am gonna buy new fresh solder
For my new iron though
Lead solder is fine
So long as you do not lick your fingers later
Like it ain't no krytox 205g0
But probably best to have a respirator or something
Maybe actually gloves
Though silly your country banned it
When it more dangerous when used for mas production
it was used for business scale assembly so was nescessary
though its not sold anymore am pretty sure its still legal to use leaded as a hobbyist
most of the lead doesn't really end up in the fumes so its not worse for the user, the concern is mainly in e-waste I think
Oh
I mean still did not want to touch it sorry
But leaded rosin core solder is pretty common too
And the good stuff
If you get the right concentrations
I don't worry too much, I just wash my hands thoroughly afterwards
digikey still has plenty of leaded, and I just placed an order there the other day
Ah okay
My dad'w workplace has lead solder

I think they only do it for client request
And very few boards get made in the first place
I had a roll but I gave it away to a friend quite a while back
Big sad
wasn't expecting the damn stuff to disappear from stores here kek
Well hope they made good use of it
One day cars disappear

The next the parks are upside down

eco cultists are winning
when are they not coming up with some new clown law
Tsk tsk tsk
Who would want to spend like $30k for a new car
Just cuz some political dumbass decides so
"just buy a tesla lmao"
its not like the electricity grid can even cope with it
or that electricity itself is more expensive than its ever been now
When more people have them
Yep that too
Hurt the people
And probably screw the environment even more
Cuz then the cars will have to be thrown away right
huff putins gas
I think the law specifically wants to ban the sale of new gas cars
the existing ones will likely be allowed to run until end of life
but don't worry they'll come up with some bs laws that makes it prohibitly expensive to do so
They also need to wire up stuff in the homes
Probably more expensive new homes with it built in
Basically yeah
they're still building new housing with parking here that doesn't have electrical outlets, or ones not rated for charging EVs
big smort
Lol
They expect the owner to pay
Also gas stations are kinda nice
They have shops
Maybe get a snack
I mean either eayt
Real ridiculous
To start doing so when the technology or income ain't there even
Like what about all the poor people
Or the people who could have had cars
Like I get in EU cars are more like your own thing
yeah lots of low and middle class households who's pretty much reliant on cars can't fit it into their monthly budget anymore
Very sad
virtually every proposal the enviromentalist party comes up with here is a square kick in the nuts to poor people
they lobbied for years to get perfectly functional nuclear reactors shut down, and now that electricity has skyrocketed in price and oil burning plants are being powered up again to meet demand they have the audacity to rant about how irresponsible and wrong it is to increase our reliance on fossil fuels
fucking pepegas
yea well the idea was you shut down the reactors and put money into renewables
worked out just great that one
yea but that didnt happen
renewables arent actually cheaper
they cost about the same price since you need more of it to meet the same peak demand
and what happened was they shut down the plants and didnt spend the money on renewables
at least in the us
dunno about eu
relying on the weather for your energy is marginally more reliable than relying on astrology to guide you through life
thats why renewables cost more than people are willing to spend on them
Hydroelectric dams are good but not many places you can put em
the only country i know that actually invested the correct ratio of storage to renewables was gb
and gb didnt really make much in terms of renewables
and guess what
you can use solar and wind to store energy in hydro plants
use hydro as your peakers instead of coal
Got a ton of windmills here in Indiana but every time I passed them on highway barely any move and those that do are usually slow
Geothermal also exists
For like iceland
we got a lot of those too, and to be fair it is quite windy here a lot of the time
usually windmills are intentionally deactivated because they dont have enough storage
still, they'll need so many more to make a dent in the average production
Ah
they will turn the blades so that they dont spin
also they fugly, loud and disturb wildlife
definetly not as much as coal or oil peakers lmao
no, no, everything we do disturbs life
so they want to build them out at sea which is preferable but probably expensive as shit
and as for nuclear, you need a relatively large exclusion zone for that too
poke you have been disturbed
eh
windmills are cheaper than drilling platforms which are also at sea
we didn't have much coal power here even at its peak
and the last plant closed in 2018
oil
wow so much better
yup
and you are eu so you arent using your own reserves
not like it will run out one day, thank the stars
they don't run that often though, but they've had to a lot more the last couple years thanks to closing down a lot of our nuclear reactors
you are probably importing it from somewhere else which means that you are using alot of energy to transport it too...
yea and imagine if they replaced those nuclear reactors with pumped hydro peakers and solar farms
oh yeah EU countries pretty much have to supply each other with electricity as part of agreements
Just attach your PC to the cardio stationary bike
no i mean the oil
yeah funny thing that
instead of buying oil from our neighbors we import it from the saudis and apparently africa
as long as we can export the problem to a 3rd world nation its not a problem any more
a lot of the EU still imports tons of oil and gas from russia as well
apart from norway I don't know much about any other places in EU or surrounding regions that produce oil
i mean apparently italy denmark and romania all produce?
yep plenty of EU leaders got real cozy with relying on russia for gas and oil and didn't consider looking into options
worked out well that one
yeet
anyways the point is that if they had moved the money that they had invested in nuclear directly into renewables, they would have at least been able to offset shutting down the plants through storage and generative capacty
and a special bonus is that you have signficantly more jobs floating around in both manufacturing and maintanance, and less money is wasted on raw materials
scientists here are pretty much in agreement that while nuclear is far from perfect its still the most efficient and enviromentally non-intrusive method of energy production option we got, that doesn't line up very well with the greenwashing narrative politicans has sold us on for decades now though
remember money spent refining fuels doesnt go back into the local economy at all where maintanance and manufacturing of windmills, pumped hydro, and to a lesser extent solar all goes straight back into your local economy
they'll happily quote scientific studies as long as it aligns with their politics, if it doesn't not so much
im also gonna need a citation on that one
if you dont include the nuclear waste storage, transportation, and mining 100%
but a full lifecycle analysis of a windmill can fully stay within your country
same for a pumped hydro plant
most of the articles on the topic I've read aren't in english, but the argument is modern nuclear would make more efficient use of the fuel and shorten the half life of the waste that has to be kept stored
and the lifecycle analysis of an oil plant is just tragedy after tragedy to the point that I dont think i even need to explain
also have you seen the amounts of waste even a currently operating older nuclear plant produces? it ain't that much at all tbh
good for it
you still need to mine it out of the ground, transport it to a different country, refine it, and then it gets used up and you need to store it somewhere robust enough that it wont leak into your childrens groundwater
each pound of fissile material requires something on the order of 10 tons of material moved, transported, and refined
and all of that 9.99 tons of material you lost is to some extent radioactive
you cant let any of it leech into groundwater...
you can make a lot of power with that though
not as much as a pound of copper would if invested into a windmill
or a pound of silicon invested into solar panels
also I find it interesting how the concern is so great with even the slightest amount of radioactive contamination but we've somehow been largely fine spewing out coal and oil smoke into the atmosphere for decades
soot gets removed from the atmosphere very quickly and locally, and the rest are naturally part of the carbon cycle
both of which has a lot more casualties under its belt than nuclear ever had, accidents included
oh for sure
but the idea isnt to replace nuclear with oil
the point is to replace it (for the same price) with even more capacity of renewables, which would decrease your use of oil
can't rely solely on renewables for a considerable future though, but many leaders wants that to be the case so badly they'll have vital energy infrastructure prematurely shut down before they're even close to approximating the demand it leaves behind with renewable options
heres the trick tho
you can rely on renewables more than you can rely on imports...
so now we're enjoying record high energy prices and reliance on authoritarian warmongers to supply large amounts of it
yes
maybe you can, if it actually exists, but they didn't get to that part where they built nearly enough to be able to rely on it
and thats because they replaced nuclear with oil
its not complicated
replace a nuclear plant which generates peak power = average power of lets say 10mw
and if you replace it with a set of solar and wind plants that generate an average of 2mw and a peak of 10, on average you added 8mw of oil power
wheras if you had spent the same amount on renewables you would have (in the us at least dunno about renewable pricing in the eu) 15mw of average generation, and a couple gwh of storage
wind accounts for about 16% of our domestic energy production
and it would account for how much if they had invested in it the same amount they invested in nuclear?
but really you want to be more investing in pumped hydro and solar
no idea, but we haven't really invested in any new reactors since probably sometime 1970s or 80s
solar can get you aloooooot of energy extremely consistently, and you can build it on top of the land you are using for pumped hydro
solar isn't that efficient here
its overcast for like 300 days a year
and in the winter we barely get daylight to begin with
quite a lot yes, most of the wind power is situated along those
there you go
future of power (if everything goes according to plan) - "irrigate" solar power to regions that can't produce it themselves
considering that generation capacity, you probably mostly just need more storage considering what I know of eu energy policy
still would need way more to approach hydro or nuclear production
youd be surprised
i suspect you could double your generation just by improving your storage
its getting harder for them to build new ones as well
without building more windmills
but then we'd have to clear out underground and undersea data cabling at some point if thats still continued (probably will be within most of this chat's lifetime) to make way for advanced electricity routing
residents in windmill heavy or areas lucrative for building them are increasingly protesting plans on constructing more
either that or enlarge the current ones, undersea operation doesn't sound especially safe rn
and monsoon season 💀
a pain when they catch on fire and fail from lightning
and they kill birds

how about build enough storage so you can run the windmills that already exist at maximum efficiency and have them further away from the energy in use
we rarely have surplus power to store these days tbh
how is power stored lmao
build hydro
commercially I've only seen reliable sources of generation where remaining power is consumed then no more provided
once the generator is off
yes thats done by regulating the amount of generation so it doesnt surpass demand
most wind farms are directly regulated that way
could invest in some elastic material to store it in the form of elastic energy
or use water
just have it looping around
but thats not readily available energy
or usable energy, for that matter
thats why you take the water and pump it uphill with your excess renewable power
it'd still have to be processed through a hydro plant
its kinda seasonal for most part, typically surplus mostly happens in summer, during the winter the need for importing increase significantly
I was talking about "irrigating" power to places that can't generate it by means of renewable methods
yes so you use pumped hydro which can store the energy indefinetly
that would require readily usable energy flowing through pipes or stored
you mean importing?
already exists for raw power?
yes?
very long distances
many countries removed nuclear power, then replaced it with renewables which at their peak produce the same amount of power but not on average
then surprised picachu that they are using more oil to make up for the lower capacity they built
Makes me think why Elon Musk sent Starlink to.. tonga I think after that tsunami
and they also built basically zero energy storage
like how many countries governments are actually evacuating Earth
just looking to keep others primed and healthy with great short term energy
see if anymore geniuses emerge that can advance humanity out of the crowd, make sure the information age caters for their needs
take the load of them after a millennia and set up plans for when Andromeda clashes with the Milky Way
I just want reasonable energy costs again lol, we're often sniffing around what equates to 30-70 cents a kilowatt hour this year converted
shits just gotten mental since 2021
Well J. Robert Oppenheimer is no longer as miserable
if people aren't using on a mass scale what once caused tons of deaths in Japan
but with a more powerful version of the atom bomb's tech
for reference Oppenheimer is that person who said "I am become death, destroyer of worlds"
So the issue is, that countries are advancing and power needs are rising, but production technology has gone backward in terms of viable results
no?
I know
they are choosing to not spend the money

Well, there are a lot of issues in modern politics
not discarding the matter though - think about the potential warfare between China and USA, electronic vehicles being impractical to some people
whenever a "more urgent" pressing matter is announced to the government of any country, they'll choose to take action over that than something else thats irrelevant to the sustainability of themselves
Are we talking about nuclear plants?
Linus is losing it lately I swear
?
cal is lanaposting
lol
@misty saffron @wheat plume
Look at all his replies
He's been doing a lot of rants lately in general, being a bit salty and defensive.
Though I think a lot of people don't seem to get that $80 isn't that insane.
for a screwdriver??
@ashen spindle can you use that site that unlocks Twitter pls
Mhmm
Mine cost me like £30
And it's a cheaper one.
Good ones can cost easily a lot more.
gosh damn nitter is slow AF
But I can't really say how good his is though
Has the biggest magnet that could fit and the took time to get ratcheting right
But my main point was how he's reacting to people lately.
Magnets are so damn shit even in the medium range ones
I spent £30 on an ok one and I've had it for 8 years so far
yeh, its slow AF
nitter and twitter both suck
and as far as screwdrivers, the quality and functionality of LTT’s matches the price imo
ive only ever used cheap ass manual ones that are not even magnetic
ive dropped MANY screws
.-.
Could also just magnetize them
I genuinely couldn't care less cause Linus doesn't have an EU warehouse 😛
hehe
Linus just doesn't wanna abide by eu laws
Consumer rights and all
His terrible take on warranties wouldn't fly here

Ofc
The idea of warranty also in a sense feels sketchy as the product could fail right after it
It takes years to make meaningful changes.
I thought theyd make their own ones because they wanted to leave the EU so badly
We didn't lose them, we just don't get forced into new ones.
But in general if EU make laws it effects pretty much all of Europe regardless of eu or not.
Apple aren't going to have lightning just for the UK for example
Even nothern ireland doesnt wanna have any mention of locations in the republic on their signs
Mhmm... usually just easier to go with the flow.
This is also why right to repair is so important - Companies like Apple would save more money and effort by just adopting the most strict consumer rights region globally.
wanna go to Donegal? got to find the nearest place to it in the north and head towards there
Yeah but but apple could rent you out expensive equipment and make more money
Nah it was bullshit from the Brexit party.
The UK didn't wanna leave the eu, boomers did.
oof... .-.
Even most of the government didn't wanna leave.
i wonder if giving the youth more voting power would be a good idea
it sort of makes more sense
^
only the generations that are upcming should be allowed to vote
imo
the generation that are next in line for these positions
young people are forced to live for much longer than boomers so
just makes sense to give more power
yep
the older people won't allow it to happen though sadly
ive even heard some people in power say they dont give a fuck about the results of some elections cause they will bbe retiring soon so it doesnt matter to them
this is why democracy is flawed

Just look at the amount of politicians under the age of 40-50
i can’t easily name any
Deny boomers voting rights at certain
age
anytime someone young tries to become a politician they get slammed with clickbait titles like "Should a politician really be this young?" or "Wow! THe youngest person so far is trying to be a politician"
for any old person who doesnt care you have a young person who has no clue, sure maybe put a cap on it like 80 years or something that is scientifically backed, otherwise you cant take away human rights because you disagree with them
🤦♀️
not deny, but make them less significant
again, just makes sense
Okay
it’s infuriating how young people are almost not allowed to be politicians
meanwhile 80yo politicians be like “i’m about to die so who cares how much i fuck up”
^
do i need to point at such person?
boris? i thought of a different person
Oh
I see this as a good thing, once they’re dead we can actually start making progress 🙂
yep see you in 4 decades
Fallacy - There's another generation of now 80 yr olds ready to take over 😛
We recently elected a 29 year old into Congress so hopefully people are starting to realize the issue lol
29 is boomer age
also has a side-effect of young people doing something that would make them live better in the future
and coincidentally their generation also
same generation usually has little to no difference in political views, yada yada
Idk my country has a bit younger politicians though not young
That's really cool
Well it’s gonna be plastic and not glass screen which sucks too
Matte monitors suck in general
It's a W-OLED so that's good enough
retarde
most people below 23 I know I have no clue what is going on in the world
Gotta find the right balance
Not too young where they arent aware enough and not too old where they are too stubborn and not aware enough
conversing with ca. 18 year olds frequently has taught me "politics are cringe and voting is useless"
It mostly sadly is with the way its rigged unless we can vote in people that can make changes.
ye
Nontheless 16-17 people should be allowed to vote in general elections
Or well in the UK in my country I am not sure if it would be a good idea people here aren’t so mature

no question but tbh at 16 i had no idea what i was even voting for
When I was 16 germany had just pased a law that allowed 16 year olds to vote in regional elections
I voted for similar parties to what I would vote for nowadays but only because that is what I thought was the "non cringe party"
I don't believe allowing 16 years to vote is a good idea.
you want people that are, yes, mature, but also people that have some life experience and knowledge.
hell, even 24 isn't exactly a good ripe age but it's closer.
too many in that age range and under that don't know what to do in life
or depressed.
or just still going under what their parents told them and not independent thoughts on their own
Well at least in the UK most 16 year olds I have seen talking about voting had more unbiased and mature opinions than most people voting clearly from the current ruling party lol
you want people able to independently think to be able to vote
16 year olds are able to think independently
in theory
at the age of 23 i already had very distinct ideas of what policy should look like different from my parents
but not really.
And old people are just as easy to manipulate
sorry but you are sitll basically a kid at 16
If you're old enough to operate deadly machinery in public, you're old enough to vote.
I mean not 16 year olds have the same level of maturity
you have your views yes but I think you still need more time.
this if you are allowed to work you should be allowed to vote
Well instead old manipulated people vote and then look at the results
Boris Johnson uh no comment
Now two candidates
I specfically said not too you AND not too old*
Rishi sunak who wants to take away funding from poorer areas and move it to richer
but like. I don't think good idea to revoke rights to vote after its been given.
And Liz who doesn’t like France, solar panels and hates when you consume non British apples
it might just be a case of too difficult to tell when and when not to give someone the right to vote as everyone is different as well as when they mentally grow up.
From what I could see most 16-17yos wouldn’t vote for the Conservative party
So better choice than what most old people have done
I think perhaps the right to vote should be tied to those that get a High School Education or GED AT MINIMUM
so that its not tied to a specific age and there's some amount of education tied to it.
?????????????
no
This is a very controversial thing
it's an idea, I'm just throwing around. i'm all for hearing why its a stupid idea lol
because did you know children of poorer parents are also likely to have worse education
Like on the one hand I have to admit I see people with worse education more often falling for far right or far left parties.
But discrimination sucks.
punishing the poor is not my idea of fairness
aye but that depends on if they are going to a school with equalized national standards or lowered standards for that area for budgeting reasons. Though supposedly in this hypothetical ; we are also assuming the educational issues are improved or some of it fixed. in this hypothetical world*
and that is a fair point : the poor shouldn't be punished. but this could be remedied with improved public schooling which would make it independent of the wealth status of the families.
Like here in a town where most people were miners people are just worse educated now and less wise on average.
And we shouldn’t discriminate people but the issue is this often leads them to be easy to manipulate and fall for far right. There just isn’t an easy way out.
Parents drink and beat their children making their children do the same and you have a chain.
But that’s mostly issue of one region here
also yes : my idea wasn't to specifically punish the poor*
it was to set a non-age standard. and of course, thats why I also said GED which even if you dorp out of high school : you can always get at a later age as an adult and such.
Just because someone doesn’t have a right to vote doesn’t mean you punish them either, sometimes people vote for what is actually worse for them
aye there is that too.
But ngl in places where education isn’t free it really shouldn’t be required for voting
right but lets assume we fix the issue of poor schools in the hypothetical world
is there any other issue with tying the right to vote to diploma or GED?
this world does not exist
doesnt matter we are talking about the real world
We had a far right party ruling in our region for a while because no one wanted to take away their rights to make a decision.
However their decisions were taking away rights of all minorities.
They were racist but no one with enough power stood up to them because of their power
yeah the idea executed in the real world
whaat other issues does it have?
lmk when that channel exists
It’s the issue with where vote of majority starts taking away rights of minority and oppressing them. There are ways to try to prevent it too or try to
i get that artorias but to move on in the conversation, after having already discussed the major issue, lets explore if there are other potential issues.
I'd rather not
America: Lets use a plug design that can shock the fuck out of any user if they accidently touch a prong while plugging it in
🤦♀️
wouldn't that be anywhere if you shove a metal thing into any power socket?
not if the ground prong gets in first
I'm not sure what you expect when they made the design in pre ww1 era, AI driven prongs that are as secure as possible?
what would you use this for? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dvC_IZCCpWs
Thanks to Corsair and LG Display for sponsoring today's video!
Check out the new Xeneon Flex Monitor at https://corsair.com/us/en/xeneon-flex-bendable-ultra-wide-gaming-display
Plouffe has seen a monitor, but Corsair hand-delivered their next greatest screen -- the Xeneon Flex -- which has a crazy new feature... you can bend the monitor from f...
I literally don't see the point.
dafuq is this socket???
lower production cost maybe since you only make one panel instead of curved and flat
but if its not cheaper I dont see a point either
its almost impossible to get zapped accidentally with eu/schuko plugs, you'd kinda have to go out of your way to intentionally make it happen
^
ah. we should do that.
the left one or the right one?
left LOL
what brand and what device and how old is it?
its on the wall of a hotel in italy ... im watching electroBOOM's video and hes never seen this socket before either
Could be anything. A proprietary connector for basically anything.
can be a lock for electricity or internet, I don't know
in a normal room or a straff room?
normal room
oh! it could indeed be a lock for the phone line
like that it required to be plugged in to work*
and probably there is no socket there, just the cover
it doesn't look like there is anything behind
nah there's a contact in there
could be an audio-line, maybe.
like possibly for a buzzer or sumthin for the door or the service desk
put a fork in it
lol
bell socket?
we would be sure if it's electric line or not
lick it
For those who game and do design work?
Curves impact how the image is displayed so for design it's not ideal but for gaming it is better.
Still think it's too big overall though and low resolution for size
Should I hold down the power button to discharge the capacitors?
It's plugged out ofc
Blow hard on it, grab a hair dryer on the cold setting.
Ask someone who has a bike repair shop or something and use their bike compressor to clean
As soon as I start doing this mons goijg off on a list of shut I need to do before I start this .-.
I've already started this
Why'd you have to ask this now and not the hours already gone???
Get a new paint brush from walmart or any store to do light dusting. much cheaper. you can get hard or soft bristles depending on how aggressive the dust is on the cables.
you can also get compressed air but thats for stuff you can't reach or get into like inside the PSU
Is it not just dust??
Use compressed air or a air blower thing, simple.
aye.
make sure computer is off and unplugged.
also its okaya nd safe to unplugg the cables and move them too
or just use a feather duster or w/e they are called like you'd to with any other dust
but yeah get a paint brush to easily dust the surface
eeeehhh feather duster is annoying
and can snag onto corners and edges
nah don't get that
yeah but its something you're likely to have around already
I got one of those like a decade ago for £30 and it's worked flawlessly everytime for a clean out
yeah those are better long terma dn such if you use a ton
and the big dust on the ground I just clean out whenever I vacuum the room anyway
but like. I don't know if lahnah is doing a one thing or not
Grab the dang hairdryer and get to work 😄
True depends how often, I used it for work as well so it was worth the job, if it was just personal I'd still probably just for the hassle it saves.
if it has a non-heat setting*
this is the duster I use at work : https://www.amazon.com/Metro-Datavac-Safe-Electric-Duster/dp/B00U01YVYK/ref=sr_1_20?crid=5YKMKM9XLMDZ&keywords=air+compressor+duster&qid=1661702871&sprefix=air+compressor+duste%2Caps%2C76&sr=8-20

every day
Brush would work fine though
Yes - We already covered that earlier.
just re-stating because its possible for someone to miss that detail
anyways @wheat plume can alsop just get one of these too
just don't use a air compressor
As long as you fit a moisture filter, they're arguably the BEST thing to use.
I don't use the cans. but someone that needs it once is different story. it's not going to go away and already made.
I recommend having the soft white brush tips as well as one or two of the more coarser "harder" brushes.
Pedantry alert: You'll want brushes with hairs that are ESD safe.
and one of these for the harder to get off kinds of stuff
this is truth. though I wouldn't know which exact brushes those are. thankfully no issues yet.
You can just include "esd safe" in searches. It's generally a non-issue. But technically ESD can kill components et cetera.
aye, they can
@wheat plume any questions or anything?
@reef patrol can you imagine the IT world if shag carpets were still popular and everywhere?
I don't have to - I have long hair. I zap myself on anything and everything every day.
oh no >.>
I will literally flick at metal doors at supermarkets cause if I just grab the handles with my hand, it's probably going to give me a tiny jolt 😄
I went through a few days goign through that during winter when I wanted to keep me jacket on
this shit everywhere during winter
and long hair is only bearable during that season imo
Winter is coming
6 months of rain, cold and darkness to look forward to
So, lesson learned.
Dont get ADATA if you want warranty.
months later still no response despite multiple emails.
2TB nvma 13 months old....
Which isn’t legal
in the eu you d get store warrenty for 2 years
UK the store does not deal with your item after 1 year
So much for those EU warranties.
manufacture warranty
he isnt in the eu
I am referring to a conversation from earlier today. I do in fact know what brexit is 😛
Different countries have their own laws alongside 2 years warranty
We follow law for 2 year manufacture warranty, just not store.
I missed that one ig
pretty sure it is
You don't contact manufacturers at all in the EU
bs
That's the sellers problem.
The sellers are allowed to forward you to the manufacture after 1 year for repairs and if the manufacture cannot do anything the store has to refund.
It was like this when we were in the EU
Never had to contact manufacturer
No it wasn't.
We have discussed this before.
Even 22 months
The EU law is pretty damn clear on this topic. 😄
Well uk just adopted it differently I suppose
They couldn't - They could offer ADDITIONAL protections but never offer less than EU standard.
We did not adopt it differently
Well they also never had free education somehow
And now they don’t even like human rights
I mean idk enough to say if they are allowed to forward it or not I just know I never had to contact anyone but seller for any warranty issue I ever had
To quote the fucking EU and how the UK warranty used to work pre-brexit by LAW 😛
*My new phone doesn't work. Who do I contact, the trader or the manufacturer?
That depends on which product guarantee you want to use - the legal guarantee or the commercial guarantee. The legal guarantee is binding on the trader. It is valid for two years and covers products bought anywhere in the EU.
The trader or manufacturer may also give you (or sell you) an additional commercial guarantee, whose terms and conditions are explained in your contract. The terms of the manufacturer's commercial guarantee could give you more advantages than the legal guarantee. A commercial guarantee does not replace your two-year legal guarantee. If you are given a one-year commercial guarantee when you buy a product, you can still use the two-year legal guarantee to claim redress from the trader after more than a year, but still within two years of purchase.*
Any seller who told you otherwise were ignorant or lying
This sit he loophole, most stores can ask you to go to a manufacturer to diagnose the issue.
No - Again. EU law is clear.
The SELLER can ask to send it to the manufacturer for repairs. Not your problem.
No, they made me do it after 1 year, before 1 year they instantly took it from me.
Then they lied to you. 😛
multiple stores did this
I can only repeat myself here 😄
only time I've contacted the manufacturer is when they're also selling the product directly
