On pcs
How do you set a bios lock on Mac?
Oh yea you use an apple id
Smh
On windows you also can manually force your drive to be encrypted even when using a local account
It gives you a paper to print out with the recovery key lel
That way at least your data being fucked if someone steals your device is an option
Step 1 is not a thing within anyone's choice but the person doing the stealing so, like. I don't get the point of ever saying it.
it's not a thing of consent either. It's an event that happens that can be beyond your control regardless fo your security or lack of security.
Is 1080p 240hz better than 1440p 144hz for competitive gaming?
Depends on the type of game
And if the monitor is actually capable of displaying the frames without smearing
Fortnite, Call of duty, mostly fps games
that too
sound like you'd want the 1080 then, regardless.
cause at the least its a 1080 and wont over stress your ahrdware even if you never reach 240hz or 240 FPS
And 240hz at 180fps > 144hz at 144fps even without any sync on the 240hz
Well I'm building my own PC soon with a evga 3080, i9 10850k processor and I'm just curious which monitor I should buy. I know most people who play competitive use 1080p 240hz at least from what I know
you can’t do anything without knowing a user password on macs
Get a 1440p240hz for that level of PC lel
I have reset it without the password
you can’t on big sur and above, at the very least
"Take better care of your shit" is what it means.
I did it on monterey
Still nice
Rhythm games ofc
not sure wyd, i had to enter a user password to even open disk utility
There's a series of commands to run that I found online
I can't say I recommend the intel CPU but if you are dead set on it you do you. Honestly you could go with either monitor but if you want heavy competitive you want consistency in your frame rate and you don't want anything that could drop your frames. Go with the highest refresh rate and fastest response monitor you can get that isn't a $7000 CRT.
It doesn't work with an apple id attached but it works juuuuust fine for our apple device resetter Mac mini
Except those who do
but a 1440P will look friggin nice truth be told and I'm going to assume the 3090 can easily work with it but I don't know at what frame rates, that will depend on game and the settings.
1440p240hz is getting common
Less common than 1080360 but it's still more common than anything 144hz these days for pros
so if it doesn’t work with apple id attached, who cares
But it's nice to have
you’re already having fuck all security without find my
didn't say that :P I was saying in my opinion it looks nice. Which you are going to have days where you wanna casual and chill and so you want some visuals instead my man.
4k monitors are the worst thing on windows, prove me wrong
I run dual 4k monitors and it works great for me in both 10 (work) and 11
so honestly he's just gonna blow whatever he puts on it so long as it isn't a 4k.
if you don’t have scaling enabled sure
otherwise it’s annoying as fuck
do you like that blurry task manager
I literally jsut said not to use a 4K
I don't know fi you are actually reading.
Not blurry on either 10 or 11
Nope
Less input delay is less input delau
the fact it was for me just proves my point
If your monitor is faster it's faster
I literally said he'll do fine so long as he doens't use a 4K and then you are saying I said he should use a 4K :V
you are factualyl wrong with what I said
yeah that shows you aren't reading lol
and are factually wrong
learn to read.
If my monitor is 1440p and 6ms
And your 1080p monitor is 10ms
And my game is 300 on 1080p vs 240 fps on 1440p
The 1440p is faster
so?
Ok then stop trying to make a monitor recommendation lmao
that doesn't change you were wrong about what you said before trying to cover it up and blame me.
All monitors are more than 1ms
There is exactly 1 monitor under 1ms and that's the ViewSonic 1440hz projector
give us the model or serial of your monitor, lets look it up
And that's not a monitor
wait yeah a projector isn't a monitor
¯_(ツ)_/¯
if you actually don't care then don't mention it.
Ok then we can safely dismiss you as being incorrect about this
You did, so you should avoid giving advice
every single monitor is 1ms because they all write it on the box and its equally false for all of them
exactly as Dr.Quinn said
it's all marketing advertisement Slayer
It's sharp whenever it's in focus
Then you are just a dishonest interlocutor that doesn't care about any of the words spoken to or from so why should anyone care what comes from your mouth, slayr?
My monitor is faster than yours and it's a 4k monitor
Currently the fastest 240hz monitor is 1440p
I don't think I ever said you were incorrect about that nor did anyone say otherwise nor did you say that before?
Again I hit 3k fps easy
Osu
legit can you show when this was brought up before and show when you were told this was incorrect?
Tetris I actually can't break 120 bc it has a 120 cap lmao
no
Then it wouldn't be as good?
Tetris effect is an awesome game
Beautiful, responsive, the sound is very reactive
I don't thin i tried Tetris Effect yet.
Wouldn’t the fastest 240 hz monitor be the Samsung g8 neo
I mean, surely there would be stats and tests of the speeds of these displays and we'd know factually which are or are not fastest.
Bru your monitor isn't 1ms at room temperature
The G8 neo is 2.8ms mouse to screen
The G9 hits 2.1ms apparently nice
There's a paper about how humans can tell the difference between 1ms and .1ms in moving objects but I don't need to cite it since you have provided no proof of anything you've said either
I see my blinks and notice it, if thats what you mean?
Your blink is intentionally blanked out by your brain lmao
And you do notice it
Monitor manufacturers do a bunch of trickery to get to the 1ms gtg number one of them is changing the temperature
yeah like. My brain is goign to forget about it in the near future so as to not overload it, this is true. but it is noticable.
a thousand times this.
which is much different than not.
Just because you cant see an event that lasts less than 60ms doesn't mean you can't see every event that lasts less than 60ms
Ho long do you think lightning lasts lmao
Oh dam. If only Samsung monitors weren’t plagued with issues.
I love my g8
You have it?
And I got super lucky with my g7
"barely" is still noticing it. It's still noticed.
My msi monitor for my second rig advertises 1ms even tho it's a budget va pannel
It's very noticeable that it isn't
lightning is faster than 3 seconds. I'm pretty sure what you see is the "after image" burned in your eyes fo the lightning strike.
like when you see a bright bulb or the sun.
Would you say it’s worth it? I can get it for $1049-$1149 because of $100-$200 Honeycashback + $250 student discount?
"A single lightning flash is formed by a series of lightning strokes . Usually there are about four strokes per flash. An average duration of time for a stroke of lightning is about 30 microseconds"
Literally google
120 microseconds is .12ms
Depends
It's definetly not worth it
But it's definetly a beautiful monitor that is unmatched
[citation needed]
You guys see what I meant when i say Slary is dishonest? or a troll. "nah three seconds" lol
Dishonesty and stupidity isn't the same thing
personal experience is anecdotal and not valuable evidence
it's intentional : not stupidity.
Hanlons razor
maybe am just old and slow but my monitor is rated at 4ms and I really can't perceive any lag/delay between control input and change happening on my screen, I had my concerns about the rating when buying it but price was too good to pass up
Tell that to asu they will love to hear your findings
https://www.public.asu.edu/~gbadams/lightning/lightning.html#:~:text=A single lightning flash, lightning is about 30 microseconds.
That's different things
Advertised speed is the trail behind your cursor when you move it basically
Not lag
you mean occums? or is it a different one? I'm trying to say is I don't believe Slary is genuinely this stupid. I'm saying I genuinely believe he is being disingenuous based on his words and actions.
I just figured the rating concerned the screens response to new display data from the gfx
That's all you have to criticize about that??
either way, its all good with me
yeah because I don't wanna go back to being an edgy 12 year old with a username liek Death101678 "Slayer/Slayr"
Nope
A TV can have 1ms and take 60-100ms to display the content on screen
(which I admit I was liek that way back)
you completely missed my point lol
you see what I mean, Artorias?
I know they aren't being stupid. This is intentional.
Nah
Some people just don't get it
I've worked with folks like this before
Mostly in the c suite ofc lmao
I see, well monitors aren't my expertise, I basically just look at panel type and inch size, resolution and hz rate
well. I guess that could be it.
and to some extent color reproduction and contrast/brightness ratio
You'll probably be fine then
don't be a big dumb liek me and buy some stupid ass ultra wide
be smart and buy a kickass LG square panel that i am jelly but wish it had 120hz
I don't have the space for an ultrawide anyways, or the computer to do it justice
Dual monitor > ultrawide imo
got a 32" 1440p 144hz, some black friday thing for near half price
Main screen with game, second screen with other things
not the best monitor in the world, but for what I paid I really can't complain
uw>>>>2 screens for anything immersive
Nah
Just get a bigger 16:9
I got an ancient 1050p as a second monitor
Vertical real estate matters for immersion
nah fucks with FoV
I pretty much only put various system monitoring on there
Yes ultrawide does fuck with fov lmao
yeah I find ultrawide gets much too letterboxy, the width is nice and all but the extreme aspect ratio is glaringly noticable
well, i find it find and dandy honestly in most games.
The issues comes when it's, like.
With the G8 you can cut down to ultrawide without any reprocussions
a not very optimized game
liek for instance 7 Days to Die
I don't have issues such as letterboxes or black spaces or anything
or much issues with user interfaces
the problems I get is mostly in the frame rate if things go below 60 because I was a big dumb in what I bought.
but honestly having a wide view looks really nice.
it's hard ot go back to 1080 accept if the framerate is too terrible.
but like. I like extra view angle.
now big issues I do come across is when there's a game that has to force a specific aspect ratio, namely RPG Maker games.
or any game that will full screen with a forced aspect ratio that is very very off, like 4:3
Alt enter
assuming it works with that*
I don't really do pvp anymore so I care little about slightly lower framerates with 1440p vs 1080p
RPG Maker, in some versions, i think have to mash one F5 or 4, one of the F keys.
1440p is just so much nicer to use overall on the desktop where I still spend most my time
yeee same here. Thats why i went for visuals instead. But you still want that above 60 but close to 120fps/hz because 120 is so sweet in comaprison and below 60 can be blehg.
nobody wants lower fps but kinda depends on game how tolerable it is imo, I do try to match settings for at least 70-80 in most titles if it can't do any better
aye
Did you guys build your own pc or have someone else build it for you?
Built it myself.
Built it myself
yeah built it
Was it hard to build or nah? Cause I've never built one so I'm nervous to try and build mine so I'm probably gonna pay someone to do it lol
I've been building and upgrading my own computr system ever since Steam was the hot new platform to get games. that fucking long ago. Just before that though when I was kid of course I bought a pre-built from someone I knew that built them but ti was my 'starter'.
how old is my account...
Depends on how normal you go
If you follow a build guide like the new Linus one, it'll be easy as heck
If you buy janky hardware it won't be great
Basically watch the "last build guide you'll ever need" by linus
iirc I built my first rig from ground up in 2006
https://youtu.be/BL4DCEp7blY
It goes through everything from start to finish in an easy to follow way

The first half hour is what parts to pick and they go in more detail than you will ever need
aye. if it was the 90s then youd hve concerns about accidentally static killing your components but its no longer as sensitive
This
its not no, I still use my esd bracelet as an extra precaution
just habit from handling electronics in general
You just have to make sure the parts that you have are compatible , namely the CPU, motherboard, and the RAM. Once those three are confirmed to all work with each other, the only thing is that the Power Supply has enough wattage to power your fuck-ton of a GPU brick and all the other components. And then a big CPU case that can fit a big fuck-off video card.
after that : every part will come with manuals and instructions on how to install.
Nothing should require force or anything 'hard' to push or press. just make sure you double triple quadruple check which way the CPU is facing before placing it in the socket. and don't forget the thermal paste.
aye. I love helping people pick parts and such
The video explains everything
Tho it's definetly a bit long
You'll be waiting forever
There's always new stuff lel
As with every year yes
aye but as this year is almost over : best to wait for the fancy stuff of this year and get i. if its good.
wait and see reviews of upcoming stuff.
No but the point is you can always keep waiting
If you are happy with the performance, leave it alone
Upgrade after it annoys you
Then ignore new hardware until you stop being indifferent
right and Carmonben has a valid point in that you shouldn't keep waiting because there is always a next to wait for.
If you are happy to do that, do it
but the current "next" is right around the corner so this is a case of best to wait since its so close.
What you have is better value than buying something new
There's no way to guarantee that
well if you get the thing thats coming out soon, I'm pretty sure it'll run what you have way higher than low.
I just want out of my 5700xt DX<
I want to reach better at the 144hz and plus for my dumbo monitor.
They can
Often times the ram or motherboards are the first thing to fail but maybe that has changed (GPUs too I guess but people upgrade their GPUs more often generally)
Appreciate the help guys
Yeah I didn't consider that tbh since I live in a pretty decent area
I super recommend getting good/decent surge protectors and/or power conditioners. Or probably even better : get a UPS unit.
the conditioner might help with brown-outs or other funky power issues that isn't a black out. But a UPS system woudl def help against those type of issues and a range of others.
A bad ups is not good for your psu
And online true sine wave upses are expensive asf
well yeah. don't buy bad equipment.
Literally every ups under $250
I think they just mean that a bad UPS is going to give out dodgy power which itself is bad
Ah yes this is a sine wave
Flawless
Just have surge protector on your extension and make sure you buy decent PSU you don't need anything else really.
(At least not in the UK)
The capacitors do
Those angles are very very sharp
And there's a huge amount of energy in them
That's it
The energy goes somewhere
Uh
The energy to fill the voids must come from somewhere
No that isn't allowed for most devices over 100w
For basically the exact same reason lmao
I don't have the time to teach the first 2 classes of college electrical engineering
It's actually pretty complicated, and the short version of the story is the electronics are designed to take sine waves and use as much of the wave as possible
The missing parts of the wave are all strain on the electronics
And if you have a PSU without pfc, your other electronics in the house will go schitzo
It's related yes
https://www.electrocube.com/pages/why-capacitors-fail-technical-bulletin
Here's a page on the many ways capacitors fail
like okay but I wasn't saying to go out and buy anythign crappy or bad. I wasn't specific.
also yeah I can't say I know the gritty details of electronics like I wish I knew. but I figured if there was an issue of excess electricity : that it'd be directed to a capacitor or such.
Point is look up upses on Amazon and every single one with more than a few thousand reviews will be under 250
also remember the days of big giant fat motherbaord capcitors melting/exploding? dem good ole days lol
I already had an assumption UPSs on amazon wouldn't be of good quality, typically.
Eaton sells their pure sine wave models on amazon
They only get a few hundred reviews tho 😦
capacitor failure still happens, tho most manufacturers have learned to use a bit higher quality spec ones
yeah. but ti was extremely prolific in the late 90s/early 2000s.
or was it late 00s 🤔 around that time
especially the long green ones.
yeah
I work almost exclusively on Lenovo mini computers at work
and they have them and while they aren't dying or crapping out
Lenovo fucked up with them
on some models : they put them directly under the fan assembly and SOMETIMES they aren't soldered fully flushed with the motherboard, or maybe they 'grow" a little bit on the top but they start brushing and pushing against the one crappy CPU fan in the poor computers.
and I just wish to scream because they have plenty of the other type of capacitors that are the nice smooth clean silver ones that never have those issues lol
Circuit design is hard
i'm sure theres some constant war and fight between the technical team and the design team.
For PCB layout? I doubt it
They probably decide on keep our zones ahead of time then work around that
am hoping they had a good reason for placing them there, electrolytics contains fluid nescessary to do their thing and placing them in a hot and well ventilated place is a great way to dry them out and make em cease to function as quickly as possible
sometimes it can certainly be unavoidable to have them placed them in a poor operating environment
Got the Android 13 update :D
Hmmm
The nav bar is thicker
Idk how to feel about that
And we've got the sperm looking progress bar :')
I saw someone mentioned the sperm play bar and cannot unsee, I've had it for MONTHS and never saw it as that xD.
I dislike the bigger nav bar, I want zero ...
Ez with root
Yes but I don't want to unlock again haha, I got fed up with banking apps not working when security net changed.
I do miss my custom ROMs but I had managed to avoid it for some time of late
Fair enough
Gpay stopped working for me today or yesterday, gonna have to break it again now
Yeah it hurt me when they brought that in as I always was rooted and on some custom ROM, it's what killed it in the end for me unfortunately.
Oh you used to be able to use magisk hide
Does magisk still work most of the time?
Gotta be more specific on what you mean instead of "most of the time"
Because magisk manager prompts me when it should
Well it used to be a bit of whack a mole, one week it would stop and another patched, it was done fast most of the time but didn't he join Google and scrap it in the end?
He scrapped magisk hide out of conflict of interest
But we got the zygote process
And magisk deny list
Still work usually for me
This June
I honestly do not using banking apps on my phone though since I would not trust to loosely carry that around at all and sign in every time in a secure browser
Fair enough, I do too much on my banking apps now unfortunately
Yeah if I didn't use banking apps on phone id still be using custom ROMs, it's generally just a must better and more reliable experience!
Mmmmm
I feel like some buildd have issues
Like I appreciate nightlies or builds every once in a while but they can be hella buggy and also android has begun to loose functionality and feels like a minimal toy
its a terrible airflow assembly. The heatsink and fan aren't even touching. Maybe it works cause it's a 2012 i3/5 but the CPU basically sits underneath a small heatsink with some plastic on it and in the back the fan sucks in air from the bottom side, facing the motherboard, to push out the back end vents... even if there's crap underneath it blocking the air intake like capacitors Meaning it's just passively cooling the heatsink by proximity rather than directly unlike the later models. which... the M73 model still sucks ass but the models after that one are much better.
How does Whatsapp have a themed icon but Instagram and Messenger don't?! They are all Facebook's apps
Surely if they are updating one, they'd update all
Also.... Discord please
Reportedly GPU prices won't rise either
Good news for AMD leaning consumers
Obviously might be false news
lmao
so pricey
I think mine was 691 after tax and everything
and our tax is fairly cheap
imagine, after a year of waiting
Being like mmmmm I changed my mind
Ikr...
So close together
I was very very careful when I pressed complete purchase
If you did that by accident support would help you out for sure
Not like valve doesn't want your money
im almost sure they just put u at the end of the waiting list lol
I've seen quite a few people with similar problems and they have all been given a chance to buy again
wait, lana has a deck?
Smh windows I don’t want you to remind me in 3 days
Also gotta love when I was about to unplug computer because I am leaving but updates are underway
Funnier when this happens with a laptop that’s being used for conference in middle of it too
@true quest you buying though
Not yet....
It's been purchased though
Got 55,000 points for buying it
Just disable windows update in regedit or something
more like a customer satisfaction move instead
tbh
^^
I think it makes sense in both contexts
They are making a loss on steam deck
Hoping to get it back from the additional steam game sales
Sauce
Maybe only the 64gb version doesn't make money
Yeah, like ordering 10 PCBs with very thin traces costs 80% of 100 such PCBs
And less than 10 costs the same as 10 not counting component stuff just the pcb
if playstation can make profit on the ps5 valve can make money on the steam deck
One has a screen another does not
i very much doubt they make a profit solely on deck sales
One is known for designing consoles for a decade or more now one is currently debuting their first
gpd’s products cost more than twice as much
Well the screen isn’t very expensive
and aren’t much different
Considering the quality
If it’s 60hz, and bad quality all the more to hate on the steam deck
No I am not hating on it just saying it’s probably not expensive
the biggest part in the BoM is likely the chip and valve can get those cheaper than gpd
depends on the deal
Would be nice if steam deck had an OLED version ngl even if it was like 150 more
iirc the apu they are using is the one that was supposed to go into a surface lineup but microsoft once again dropped the ball there
Maybe not the cheapest one
They want to reach the 400 dollar goal again with 2
so if they find a new mass buyer and depending on if they also plan to use them in the deckard they could get a pretty sweet deal
Just trying to make a point as to why bad profit
I mean they really probably don’t profit much, probably barely anything tbh
if the Steam Deck were just a downsized PlayStation so no screen, it’d have been easier to model it for better cooling and a separate screen
well then it wouldn’t really be a handheld anymore but if profit was key at least some tech like an expandable screen might’ve been nice
like Samsung flip stuff
ARM processors in a Surface - insert little doge
ARM processors in a Mac - Gigachad
Intel processors in a Mac - Baby we built this house, of memories- take my picture now, im nonexisting
i might consider putting in a better screen, same res, slightly bigger would be nice
I have no clue how that relates to the AMD apu steam deck used
You want a bigger screen on the deck?
Oh so you mean less bezel
So ye bigger screen
I get ya
Would have been nice I agree
Not sure what they were thinking tbh
some bezel is needed there, otherwise you'd obscure it with you hand etc
but it could be about 1 cm bigger
Well yes but it's a thicc boi
Oled screen would truly be nice on the deck
The tech has come a long way
I wouldn't mind an oled monitor as my next
19% vat masterrace
I still don't understand why America can't include vat in the prices it shows
because vat is different in every state
how much is vat in liquid
about potato
Roughly 10 oz
gaseous?
about 6 liters
bullshit reason, they need to calculate it eventually.
I mean sure I think it makes it easier to sell stuff since you see a lower price, but in the end do you want to make an annoucnement and say "our new product costs either 1,2,3,4,5 or 6 depending on where you live"
"The RTX 4080 will launch for 712,5, 713.6, 725 or 695$ depending on your local tax on day X"
I think in local stores and such it's indeed bullshit since they know what the local tax is lol
I think it might also have an impact on the used market but that might be cope since US used prices are often sooo much cheaper than here
hmm I could see that since the deprecated value would likely be inferred from the prices without VAT whereas here people would think about the VAT included price
depreciated
ah, right, thanks
tldr: it keeps current connections open when turning on the VPN. so only new connections go over the vpn. Normally you'd want the connection the be disconnections and reconnected over the vpn
- apples own stuff is also not going through the vpn I think
but that could be a result from it being active before you can turn on the vpn
I assume that's a hard pad? I used to have a steel series ice from over a decade ago, was amazing but ANY bit of dust or dirt would end in scratching feeling and require clearing so often I lost my shit and gave up with it haha.
Wonder if this type of hard pad has somehow avoided that (if it's not glass?)
it's textured glass, it has the same issues with grit but cloth pads become worthless if they get slightly humid or get sweat on them and if you clean a cloth pad it it's never the same as new
Fair enough, pros and cons! I've picked up an artisan pad recently and had no issues but too early to tell. Not too humid here either so I guess that helps!
considering artisan pads cost the same I couldn't stomach trying out a hien just to have it inevitably slow down
Fair, when I looked I only saw them for around £100 and artisan was £40 so I gave it a go, makes sense of similar!

When will we get laptops with subscription updates. Like all laptops made with 16gb ram, you have 8gb by default and have to subscribe to a monthly high performance unlock that allows you to use all 16gb
Also higher OC
Soon
Well no one said it’s gonna last more than 10 seconds
Gotta find a way to market the high performance mode though so you get people to subscribe
Also without it the 100w battery is locked to 65w
And charging speed smaller too
Sounds like a good plan
Oh actually
Also could lock some USB ports
And refresh rate to 60
If you don’t subscribe
Oh and ram speeds
Also ssd speeds
Intel already tried that on desktop a long time ago I think in the pentium days and it was an utter failure
if BMW does subscription-based seat heating, I don't understand why the idea of subscription-based laptop upgrade sounds inapplicable
Yeah
because its stupid either way and on a laptop a lot easier to circumvent
I am not saying it’s not stupid for the consumer
this ^
we still need to buy visa for traveling and it still feels normal for people
I think everything makes sense for people

Article has probably been posted already but idk
This is awful
yes i already was angry about it here
I'll actually do what he suggests
Rightfully so
i'm at work and can't exactly go into videos about pedophilia stuff lol what happened? medical doctor examination gone wrong and google did a report and breach of privacy or what?
I mean every mother would have thousands of pictures of their babies and children in their phone
basically google created a algorithm for child abuse
At least I know from my sisters, all their medical issues are first attended by phone and whatsapp pictures
well yeah. sometimes you end up with like "babies first bath yay :D" pictures and stuff that isn't sexually driven and whatnot
So I'm guessing an AI algorithm did a false flag?
yeah
did police get involved and such?
seems so
Much worse google involved the police + closed all of his google related accounts which seemed to be like a shit ton
oof
So he got giga fucked
yeah and impossible to fix.
Yes
Probably
surely the investigation of the police would turn up to indicate if it was or wasn't abuse.
I honestly doubt it with us privacy laws
Not because of privacy laws
i think using google photos cloud and sharing it made the flag
ALTHOUGH TO BE FAIR
Since google can just close your accounts for 0
More of defamation
Doubt that is an angle
if the photos were to automatically be backedup=clouded to the google servers and such, even if it was innocent pictures of family and stuff.... google can't exactly legally be hosting pictures of naked kids or such for any reason.
Defamation requires a lot
Well since they report you to police for sth like this that you haven’t actually done
they did not know its a false flag so fat chance in that going through
there has to be damage done, to do libel/defamation.
and given lawmakers also want to push these detections through, even less likely to end up as something
big question : was the police call automated by a bot or by a human? 👀
wouldn't matter either way
assuming the human just saw the report and followed up and didnt manually review stuff which I doubt they would do
I will say google wasnt justified in the police call but honestly you can't blame google for, uh, not wanting naked kids/babies/toddlers on their servers.
do yall know if it was because it was built into the phone or because the phone auto uploaded it to the cloud
I think he uploaded it to share it but idk exactly
android phones and google services usually have auto-back up services and things like that.
because Google photos auto backup everything
yeah that
This is the article
if you turn that on
anyways , for a doctor, gotcha then.
it's default on
aye it typically is as soon as you link your google account
and you bet a parent that ones to document their babies life with pictures/video si going to have backups
people been doing that since Polaroid was invented and the Sony VHS camera lol
Home Video Format
record and track massive amounts of peoples personal information and digital content and trust it all completely to a machine learning algorithm to do as it see fit with, what could possibly go wrong?
remember the time they let loose one fo their learning algorithms on the social media platform?
it was the best day for 4chan
almost every time it goes the same way
"Hyundai predictably fails in attempting to secure their car infotainment system with a default key lifted from programming examples," writes Slashdot reader sinij. "This level of security is unfortunately expected from auto manufacturers, who also would like to sell you always-connected Car2Car sel...
One thing they always forget to teach the learning algorithm is when to NOT learn FROM another individual and instead learn from their actions/words indirectly. So as to not pick up on the bigotry and such but to learn OF it and the why.
also this brings up some interesting concerns.
Distinguished ladies and gentlemen of the #🔌│tech world, I'm in need of a new mouse and I come seeking advice.
Who has some recommendations for me?
- Doesn't need to be the fastest response rate or highest DPI since I rarely do any kind of FPS gaming
- Extra buttons are super helpful but more than a few extras is a handful
- I bought my last mouse back when wireless sucked but that's probably not relevant anymore? But if it's wireless I'd want the mousepad to charge it haha
about morality and such for an AI. They didn't have evolution to develop empathy and morality. They would have to develop a morality through some other way, me thinks.
Gesture button?
@marsh glade I would just get a Logitech Hero. Works well, not over priced, customizable, plenty of extra buttons without being too much. Good range of DPI and great configuration fo them. Good scroll wheel both textile based and mechanical switch for infnite fast scrolling.
you hold the button on the thumb pad and move the mouse in 1 of 4 cardinal directions
it does whatever action you set it to
Oh neato
oh yes! It's what I have 😄 I have the MX Master 3 and it's so nice at my job.
I have mine set to minimize my current tab upon pulling down
yee, I have mine to adjust various DPI settings.
can't you do the same thing by holding down a button on a different logitech mouse
well the thumb-pad thing is basically a button
not really it's because the software is different
but its integrated into the hull of the mouse
@marsh glade Razer Naga Pro. Optical switches that last a long time. Good click latency. Lots of side buttons (preferrence as they provide 3 different sides).
my point exactly, so they should just be able to add it to a regular button on their remaining lineup
but they probably haven't because lol
logitech 🤢
No logicuck, please
says the razer guy
Looks like the Hero refers to the sensor? And that there are quite a few different options that are priced differently
not my fault if you get cheapo crappy mice
nah logitech is consistently shit quality
let me find it, my bad.
This is what I've got now, I've got the 7 button config and use like 3 of them haha
the work mice are good
and all my razers I've owned have scrollwheel issues
I only had problems with logitech from 10+ years ago. I haven't had issues with their stuff in these two mice that I have.
Logitech used to be fantastic, but I've heard steadily worse and worse things from them over the last five/ten years
they all have shitty issues
I have yet to get a failed switch on all 3 Logitech mice I've owned
Indeed, mechanical switches that double click after few months.

@marsh glade Logitech G502 mouse*
there's a wired and wireless version, your call as to which
it's been serving me well for years without any issues
the mx master is worth just for the gesture pad and comfort
and the MX Master mouse series is super good series.
did razer finally git gud or
Razer is really solid
for years they used to be the plasticy garbage meme of peripherals
Don't need the new mouse right away, but it's getting to the point where if I want this current mouse to function as a usable backup in case of emergencies then I need to get around to getting a new daily driver
Optical switches last a lot longer than logitech alternatives, and currently Razer has better sensors.
I always had issues with Razer stuff. typically really bad cable issues like my Huntsmen straight up died and pissed me off. Thats why ig ot wooting.
I'd like to move away from Razer on account of their garbage software
mx masters also have insane battery life, they last for at least a month on a single charge
I've had razer mice lasting me anywhere from 2 months to 7 years
But it's not like the other big name brands do their software much better 😂
ooeh this is nice
the Logitech software for work mice is good, doesn't need to run in the bg at all
account is optional
You can head over to best buy right away and get this logitech honestly. again its only 40 bucks and reviews are all good across the board, ignore haters hating on it simply for hate sake. check the reviews. and plus you can always return it for a refund or a swap.
speaking of great software
just to sync settings
Well, they're actually moving to Electron based software, just like you guys are, afaik.
ALSO YOU DONT NEED AN ACCOUNT TO CONFIGURE LOGITECH UNLIKE RAZER
I use mine without an account and browser config may be possible like Wooting has.
razer software is indeed the worst
who knows, could be
synapse makes g hub look decent
synapse 3 is annoying to use, convoluted ui, synapse 2 was far better
also getting drivers from Razer is a pain in the ass.
als if anyone has a Huntsmen keyboard for parts, I need a cable connection and wanna fix this dang thing for sake of having a backup keyboard >.>
I bought a new mouse couple months ago because my 70 million clicks rated switch on my sensei ten started malfunctioning after 1.5 years of use
I researched various models
15 years of use is pretty damn fucking good
they all had almost as many complaints as positive mentions
Corsair is the one who does the ui the best for the main 3 but their peripherals are cheap garbage
you got lied lul
ooohh. thats not gewd
they're nowhere near 70m.
that's the point, its all shit man
I got what I believe is a K70. its pretty solid. The main body is strong enough metal that it cut my hand when I hit my table near it lol I liked it but I wanted more tactile... the silver switches were fun.
they don't make mice to last, or be easily servicable
Opticals >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> mech for wear/tear tho
So far the Logitech MX master is high up on the list, probably won't go for the g502 since it's almost half again the price and doesn't seem like a very significant improvement
I have had 4 k95 platinums rma'd multiple times all had chatter within the first day
Any small businesses out there killing it in the mouse scene? Would be more than happy to throw my money their way instead of to one of the big boys
Atompalm in a few weeks. Zaunkoening. Endgamegear, etc.
my pick fell between razer viper ultimate and g pro wireless, they both had about the same ratio of good/bad reviews
The only names I can think of are top of mind due to negative press lol
But they are performance oriented, you'd prob not like them 😄
@marsh glade The Master MX isn't for gaming and I don't recall how high or low a DPI it has. What do you currently have? Also the MX doesn't have weights for the bottom where as the 502 you can configure the weight of it. The MX is meant for multi-device work stuff.
so I got the g pro because synapse ass
there's not really as big a mouse scene as the custom kb scene
I'd have gone for RVU personally, and even more so for the next gen.
also the MX Master is 2-3 times the price of the G502
I currently have the Razer Naga Trinity; I don't do much FPS gaming nor any MOBAs and very little in the way of RTS so it doesn't really need to be a überpowerful gaming mouse
then the mx master should be good, personally I use it for shooters anyways
it was pretty close but I really loathe that damn razer app
yeah which si why i'm saying go for the G502. it's 40 dollars and the MX Master is over a hundred
depends which model
Oh apparently I was looking at some super fancy version of the 502 haha
2s can be found for cheaper, only thing it lacks is USB c
I have the MX Master 3 but I got it for 30 dolalrs cause it was the MAC version on clearance and it works exactly same as windows LOL
am expecting to have to buy a new mouse again in one or two years, if it lasts longer than that I'm lowkey impressed
I'm hoping my Naga lasts like 10 yrs lol
yeah they have some white version and they doubled the price for some reason
g502 has the weight of a brick, cant recommend it at all
This. RSI inc
no it doesn't? my 502 doesn't weigh a lot.
my brother has had his g pro since 2018 and its still kicking
the MX Master is a lot bigger mouse and weighs more.
I have been using my mx master 2s for the last 2 years and it's still good as new, the only thing I hate about the mx master is the soft touch finish
I do use my mouse all day, every day, so a very heavy one is no good
based purely on user experience I rather like the g pro
got 7 buttons and a wheel, quite light
mx master is 165g
personally I don't find it fatiguing because its comfortable design
the G502 weighs like 4 ounces
and the weight is adjustable
Get zaukoening m2k weighs 20g
mx master lasts for over a month on a charge
Looks like the basic G502 Hero is about the same weight as the Naga Trinity I currently have, so that would be fine
MX Master is about almost 5 ounces
But indeed the MX master is like 25% heavier
the battery is super long lasting. but it is anooying how quick it is to go into sleep mode.
wireless has gotten better
I can't tell any difference to wired whatsoever
haven't been a issue for me, it gets out of sleep in less than a second
not really noticable
yeah a quick move or click. it's just a me thing. but my windows laptop HATED it
like legit it wouldn;t work with the mouse and it would stutter and force it into sleep and awake every half second
linux though : no issues with the MX
g pro wakes up instantly
yeah. just for reason it was a hassal on my windows, like a settings issue or something.
don't think I'll go back to wired again tbh, its kind of a hassle
even with one of those gimmicky bungees
knowing that blue tooth mice can last as long like these MX ones : I would def go for a wireless one nowadays.
if its done well*
Looks like Endgamegear is positioned (unsurprisingly) to be geared towards high end gaming, don't quite need that level of precision or lightness
Zaunkoenig is out of my price range LOL - but cool that you can buy just the PCB, wheel and buttons
Atompalm is quite an interesting choice, but I'd want to see them knock their first product launch out of the park before buying one
I like what Atompalm is doing with their frequent updates and bringing people into the story of their development, reminds me of another tech company I know 😛
havent looked into mice recently so I can just say I like my Roccat Burst pro, and I still think the 502 is a brick even without extra weights
How's the build quality on the Roccat Quintosh?
502 the king of doubleclicks
have had no issues so far, scrollwheel is solid and no signs of that making issues like on my previous mouse
Had it for a while?
g pro hits a good gaming/desktop sweetspot with the extra buttons and relative lightness imo, not quite into sweaty competitive lightness territory though
yeah im going to see when I got it because now I'm curious too lol
I used to use the 502 I do not recommend unless you are into replacing your mouse switches frequently
since march last year
That's the sweatspot I'm looking for: enough gaming accuracy for a fifthly casual but also comfortable and durable enough to use every day for years on end
so 1 1/2 years of gaming+ home office and no problems in any way
Oh okay, long enough that structural issues would have presented if they existed
I use my 703 hero for everything I like the shape and so it’s nice
But it tends to break sometimes
I can't speak for longterm durability yet, but it ticks the other boxes imo
I recommend the boomslang
might be a bit small-ish for larger handed folks
I'm not about a race to the bottom in quality haha
I recommend the g305
It's a g pro wired without the wire
And no the gpro wired /g30# shell is not that small
It's generally considered a large mouse
ngl the quality isnt bad
Isn't bad or isn't bad for €5? 😂
Personally I like to stay away from logitech these days at least for gaming
I got g pro because more buttons, also leftie so side buttons on left side only is no dice
i think the office mice of logitech are cheap cause of the sheer production volume
That's the g pro wireless not the g pro
na they just work
wooting cat™
maybe not for gaming
but anyone whos not gaming can be super happy with a b100
so 80% of the computer users
At any rate, thank you all for your helpful suggestions!
I'll report back once I've made a decision haha
Time to make dinner, Taco Tuesday for the win 😎
these naming conventions are
what naming conventions
Which mouse company does optical switches other than razer btw?
logitechs g something/number etc etc
that I know
The consumer Logitech stuff:
K is keyboard
M is mouse
Km is keyboard mouse bundle
Oh no mk
I really hated the b100s I used to sell
Might as well use the freebies we get with all our pcs
I find razers use of actual words/names more clearly distinguishable in my monke brain
We had 1 where the click broke and another that lost scroll wheel out of 5
At my previous job
My current job uses Microsoft cheapos and they last forever tho they feel like garbage
oh ya the ms stuff is also good
but their new mouse and keyboard combos arent all that cheap
maybe for a single station
whatever happened to microsofts mouse dominance
but office scale way too expensive
Y'all need to talk to your distributor
I member the intellimouse era
The intellimice are still good even the modern ones
They have just been outcompeted by Logitech basically
id man the good wireless mkb combo they offer is damn expensive
at any scale
i can get b100s for a euro a pop or less usually
Yea but the wired bundle is hella cheap
for keyboards we have some cherry foil shit for a good 80cents or so
Yea we get bundles so that they stay together and don't get lost in shipping
well we get it shipped to our small warehouse and then we send it to the customer
so once a year big palettes with some shit comes
including thousands of ethernet cables
not that i like my job
only up side is some cheap shit sometimes
We have a few dozen sites and often we are sending packages by using employees as courriers
Big cardboard boxes make it hard to get messed up
ya no this is 5 people where basically i can replace everyone by now
Opposite situation here
Me and my 8 colleagues are each doing the job of 3-4 people
thats not opposite
thats just me x9
when i say i can replace them that means i usually do
including half an hr to 2 hrs of overtimes every few days due to workload
Oh yikes
Ouch
Well that's not an option for our job
Gotta be in the office 3 days a week 😦
ya no ideally id like to do either support desk or software engineering
maybe even community management
If you come work for us, you get to do all 3 for more than min wage! tho the community is our internal knowledge base
Also yea our min wage is more than your actual wage geez I just realized
min wage is going up here in a month or two
yes
so its going to be 12 at least
but my boss said he heard next year
Our electricity cost is going up in a month or two, by like 3x
so im so happy to hear how that pans out
and then he promised me 14eur an hr when min wage goes to 12
but
ngl
id be happy with 12
just i wanna do the work i was hired for
not 5 different peoples work aswell
Our min wage is going up by a dollar as well
currently its 9.6 here so some adjustment was well overdue
It'll be 15 for everyone on Jan 1
Rip.
Mines going up by similar amount in October then Jan should be apparently another doubling xD
That's fucked up
I had like 15 cents a few months ago
Pretty normal costs, can do mining and shit
We get overtime pay thankfully
what i get is 500bucks as a 13. payment for christmas
It's bordering 30 cents rn
Supposed to go up to 40 and more soon
I guess cryptominers will be on suicide watch for the next few months
Cheap GPUs incoming eh?
Hahaha yep mined with my old 390x , bought a whole pc with profits and a Vega GPU then a 3080 as it was like 10p a kWh!
Now it's going to be 60p
Crypto is in shambles, all coins are down, electricity costs are massive
Idk if cryptominers will dust their rigs until next year or will they sell
crypto is in flash sale*
I think Ethereum proof of stake finally launching soon...
I only mined on the side to get free money xD, got it at decent time and sold relatively ok times as well as getting rid of my GPUs to upgrade perfectly
Oh right I didn't see people discuss this yet
Has it really? It was always delayed but I thought I read recently it was finally coming this year and not delayed again but didn't se it rolled out
We are getting "retention incentives" because so many people are quitting lel
i dont get shit
And it's more than 500 I'll tell you that
well the 500bucks christmas money are apparently the compensation for the below average pay in my branch of speciality
Honestly EUR will recover
Let's get the recession fixed, geopolitics fixed
And it should go to 1 : 1.3 ratio, hopefully
Nope, we'll forever be europoors now
I got a £2k pretax rise to cover a £4k increase in electricity xD
Every piece of land labeled as china when
After they go bankrupt soon
How would you guys use an analog wheel if Wooting made a mouse with such a feature?
what, like a mousewheel but without the tactile stepping
Enjoy the smoother scrolling, I guess
Idk, like, being able to control how fast it scrolls or pressing harder would result in slower/faster scroll.
logitech already has a similar thing sorta
on some variants
toggle switch for the friction/stepping
much easier to just handle that by scrolling and pressing alt or ctr or something
combination of keys seems cumbersome
But like is there anything you could do in games that would benefit from analog wheel?
What would you use that for?
Wud you like a wheel that has more than 24 steps?
Yea
I was considering the G903 which has that frictionless wheel mode thqt lets it keep spinning for ages if you want to
A bit bizarre considering if anything the budget segment is the most competitive one in smartphones
but was too heavy for my liking
High end in phones (600 and over) is just uninspiring nowadays
Same old designs
But there are a lot of cool stuff below that, so it's weird to hear there is no demand
Gaming phones are cool though
ROG ones?
Or chinesium ones
I can't take ROG stuff seriously, nor the gamer aesthetic cheap plastic ones
By the way they toned it down
Fan in phone sorry
Idk nowadays there's a lot of good stuff in 300-400$ zone
That you are not wrong about
Especially with how much of a joke googles phones have become, apple has the SE or mini, and I am sure there are other phones
Battery
What about battery
Rog phone has 6000mAh
200$ xiaomis ship with 5000 mAh
You'd prolly be hard pressed nowadays to find a phone with a sub-4000 mAh battery I imagine
As well high speed charging
lower end chips are also less efficient so same battery still gets drained faster
Ipawn
better chip isnt just better in full power mode
It also goes the other way around
Some phone could last 3-3½ as a result
Look at 888 vs snap 8 gen 1
8 gen 1 had same perf for far worse efficiency
It's only what, few months ago they released 8+ gen 1 that addresses those problems
Is that chip the + even good
Going high end SoC really isn't always the most power efficient option
The new + version is really good
Alright then so this year is no crap show
Honestly vexxic you are right that you get more value
Well we are getting Snap 8 gen 2 in a few months
I think xiamois gaming phone which like $500 does 120w charging or so
Uh oh
Xiaomi offers 120W charging for 300$
Sure, just like you should I suppose
But for me I don't care much for AMOLED or camera
So the 230$ Poco X3 had great internals for the price
Sony should still have one
Honestly the thing that irks me is the removal of items on the high end phones, like on the low end headphone jacks still exist
Oh right
I mean I do not care for it, but they had literally last year
How to literally be wrong
Somehow we learned, that 3.5mm jack does not actually take up so much space
Lol
So you can still have small bezels, thin phone, and a 3.5mm jack
Yeah
Honestly bezels are fine
Cause you know, buy AirPods?
Eh they are okay
They are not good
But one could spend like $20 for okay wired earbuds
The result of that honestly is china copying apple
There are actually good airpod clones
Maybe even the airpod max clone which I think at least one has transparency mode
Why would you ever clone airpods
Like yes yes, a lot of people buy them
But they are like, not good
Usable isn't good
They are far too expensive for their features
Other companies proved that even Bluetooth can have a great price/perf ratio
Like AKG for example
50$ buds trump Apple's 250$ ones
Will they honour Europe's regulations I wonder and allow to opt-in into ads
And so many people buy them
Adding ads feels like paying for cable
But still getting advertisements when tv was free
Xiaomi for example, sells 200$ phones for nearly no profit
And serves you ads to make up for the small margins
But European people can literally opt-out
So no ads served
I wonder if Apple will just completely disregard that
Apple could also be planning ads in other apps including Podcasts and Books
