mine are currently 32ohm iirc but benefit from an amp.
what differences are there between using an amp and just plugging it into electronics
There is a bug in YouTube with the watch progress bar you see in the thumbnail for videos you've watched
If you watch a video for just a few seconds and then go back and the bar will show you watched the entire video
perhaps code did a fucky wucky and now thinks its supposed to highlight what you've watched and what you haven't
like digital vs analog
OMFH IT WORKED
:')
"hey Google, play Following Stanley"
It's the Adventure Lineā¢ļø music from Stanley Parable
Its ok I guess. I've run a few planars off it, it works.
I still much prefer a proper DAC + AMP tho
Here's my deck running a pair of DCA ĆON 2 Noires
Itās funny how Beethoven became deaf at 45, but he had perfect pitch until then
Perhaps he thought he still had that pitch gift and just that he was hard of hearing so he needed headphones from a few centuries ahead of him to hear what he played
and distinguish one tone from the other

I'm seriously lost. I went as so far to install protobuf tools, and yet, I still cannot generate a valid "{message}" for Steam's API. Is there a forum or something for this? I really want to get to the bottom of this, so I can avoid scraping.
u wont need protobufs most likely
Shock
not for me, but its become quite a thing lately on the twitters
My guess is discord uses SFSafariViewController
Donāt have a microwave
Donāt have gas in this house either
So canāt be over a flame I am afraid
And itās too warm inside to put it in a furnace, could destroy the pot too
Oh ffs
From some articles I read about this
It can infect the actual YouTube and Whatsapp apps too
So, don't download and install sussy apps, got it.. wait I already do that
Ye but it can infect the real apps
All you can do to save yourself from the attack of this malware is to avoid downloading unofficial or fake apps for services like WhatsApp, YouTube, Telegram, Signal, or such apps from third-party APK websites. Experts advised Android users to make sure that they download official apps from the Google Play Store.
I mean that's just common sense isn't it?
Yep
Meta warning about malware.... hmmmmmmmmmm
Thatās like facebook teaching world politics
so, its just fake apps using a new sort of malware, nothing new really
Did meta mention how much data whatsapp facebook and their plethora of apps send out? Or did we skip that on purpose
No
They didn't
and the article headline just says it may DESTROY your phone when all it does is take your info, which hardly equals destruction of a phone...
Gotta get them clicks
Do your research, donāt support the meta cuck movement presented by a braindead drone
I need to check my stocks first before I can say support them or not
Iāll tank a ban for this if you have to lel
Meta = bad
yeah but money
well I'd say meta doesnt really destroy the earth, it might even help the earth by killing humans
Killing off humans would definitely help the earth
Ok, youāve said enough, Iām done with this convo š¤£
Just heard someone complain about the thermal system on the Steam Deck about how it would be far better if Valve put the intake vent on the bottom edge of the Deck beside the SD card slot
....bruh wtf you on about?
then how would you dock it?!
lay it flat to dock it?
xd
why not
Why not both
also assume that person cared about docking it in the first place
well if its docked the rotation doesnt matter, so flat, or rotated would work
airflow might be better, sounds like it could be the case idk the internals
youd block a vent on the underside a lot than on the back from normal use
when I use the Switch in bed, the bottom is against my bed , so any intake vents there would be covered
I would argue normal use isn't well defined since I dont know I'd ever use it in a position where the bottom edge would be closed off
You could probably make a spinning rust drive talk that protocol, but y tho
no but Valve update the fuck out of the Deck very often
so im sure they improved it since launch
what is ea in this case?
its... fine?
.-.
I hate this shit
"We offer unlimited data but after an arbitruary amount of data usage, we slow your speed down so much you can barely load a website"
but hey! at least its unlimited data!!
yeah that should not be legal
Me: "Hey Google, play my Song List on youtube music"
Nest: "Ok, playing your playlist called Song List"
starts playing the most recent song Ive added to the list
Me: "Play the playlist in shuffle"
Nest: "Sure, shuffle is enabled after this traack"
š
I didnt know it could do this!! FUCK YE
Yeah thatās not unlimited
Just get data from like ee, they offer data and once you run out you still get the low speed. But they donāt advertise it as unlimited
it IS unlimited data
technically speaking
Well most companies donāt call it that way
they dont limit you on data they limit on speed .-.
it is unlimited just not unthrottled
Anyways most ee plans are unlimited just get throttled last time I checked
Also 50$ looks like a horrible price for that
Also 10$ per GB???
I love the carrier im on
ive used like 300gb a couple of times in a month and never once been throttled on speed
I have a 50gb plan
But I hate it
The speed is so low
4g usually has e-3g speeds
5G has 4g speeds
maybe cause im the only one within a 30 mile radius that uses this much data LOL idk
the network is very much not crowded around here
mb
What carrier?
post that in english
We thought itās limits not speed
yea
Since we were talking about mobile carriers mostly
he said FTTH..
wtf is ffth?
what kind kind of phone do you use that you think its a direct fiber line lmfao
fiber to the home
fiber to the home
home/house
fug
ooohhh
No it's not wifi
ooohh ok thats different
I was also confused
UNless you connect it to an AP
It's speed is 200-1000 mb/s and unlimited plan obv
upload the same?
do they do the shady shit of throttling after certain amount of data usage?
We were talking about data so thought the speed is the limit, would be weirdly low for the price lol
2:1 up/down
even for the gigabit option?
ye 500 down
Wait wat
That sounds good
I get 60/10 here and 10/1 UK
I think he meant 1:2
oops, 1gb down/500 up
yeah I'd take gigabit then lmao
But I can save 15/month š
I have 20 up with my gigabit down lmfao
ROFL
Here in cities you can get 1000/50 for like 25⬠a month
oh nvm its 50
ye and 59⬠after 2 years
no I meant 50 up for me lmfao
o
cheap
And low income
I guess its 40⬠forever so bit better deal
idk I dont want to give up gigabit anymore but depends on how much you would use it really
Here the 1000/50 is actually 20⬠for first two years
Can always harrass them to make a new deal for 12/24 months ig after the period
āAgree or I will switch to a different providerā
Different provider has a shitty wireless 4g connection for 25ā¬/month, but I can always pretend stupid and say I don't need more, so they will maybe accept my proposition
Meanwhile they only way I can get an internet connection at my location is to pay for one of those small battery powered things that have a SIM card in them and charge you like 10 euro for every MB you go over the data limit or use my mobile data on my phone
basically did the same for my old phone plan they dont want to keep anymore
You should try
There is no wired internet to my house
they wanted to move me to a 10$/month plan and I called and say no lmao
How?
because I dont use sms or phonecalls aside from 2FA basically
most of my data is used for looking up whats going on when my internet is down lmfao
There is no gas nor cabled internet. But we do get water. Though we need to āfilterā it ourselves.
bruh
Eh donāt really mind not having gas
Yes but the other things
Though the water situation is a bit unfortunate since well
There is a small not river but water sth here
And it just gets polluted so much
Because when water filtering stuff everyone has gets full gotta let the water go there
Close to here there are places where you have to have wells I think
Do all routers let you assign an internal static IP to a hostname?
like make it always use 192.168.1.28 for example
All sensible ones, yes.
All decent ones let you do that, crappy ISP provided junk maybe not
the one from the provider in the house I was in for college let me do it
it also let me login to the DDNS provider I used for my minecraft server to update the IP automatically
it was really nice
I was considering making a dedicated mc server but rn I am not sure if it would be useful enough
But over the time I have had mc servers I think if I built it at the beginning would have been cheaper
I did it to try it out, I really love how easy it to do with paperMC
Going into competition with Pleasant?
tbf, i started with a vanilla server than drop-in replaced it with PaperMC
Not really, actually was talking with him if the mc server couldnāt run in my server if I ever build it so it has some use

What?
.-. Intel CPUs are breaking webcams on Linux

cause MIPI drivers are whatever TF it's called
Welcome to a couple days ago, and no they're not, it's specific kinds of cams that are commonly used on new craptops
yes
yeah, new kind of camera
which means in a year or a few years, they will be standard
and if Intel dont give drivers for them in Linux, then it's out of luck
Which is odd cause Intel have their own Linux distro
ooff
only Dell and only Ubuntu
and only kernel 5.15 currently
like having the phone set to english to prevent terrible translations, but have google maps be in your local language, which helps with the text to speech
When are they gonna split locale and language so I can have English but with my local date time formats and other things sigh..
You've always been able to do that?
At least on Windows this has been a thing since ... before XP?
Yes, but I mean like on me phone and stuff
.. and modern softwares that just ignore those settings, I guess
Never seen software ignore this on Windows, in fact they tend to be VERY anal about it.
Electron garbage, for one
Like how every game out of Japan needs JP locales and shit complete with yen sign \ directory symbols š
Yeah and if you don't the game either doesn't work or the text is all sorts of messed up.
Even if translated or machine translated.
electron is just "chrome" so if that follows it, electron does too
BUT.. the frontend dev may have just hard coded the date time stuff instead of using the build in locale functions
Yeah, pretty much everything chromium based ignores those
Hence why you have to set Discord to "English, UK" if you want 24 hour timestamps, for example
But that's beside my point which is that on my phone there is only this one "language" setting, nothing for locale, so I have to deal with nonsensical date formats, weeks starting on Sunday (wtf) and so on...
wtf indeed
That's weird - I've always been able to set the start of week regardless of layout.

Yeah that is exactly my point, English (Finland) is a language so apps have to support it, plus Google is stupid and locks a lot of features to English (United States)
is netflix down
Website loads here in DK. Can't tell you if it streams.
seems like anetwork thing
works fine with vpn
spoke to soon
and now its working again
alright netflix
Never ever happened before, so weird.
tldr stop using this piece of shit spyware

Well, I generated protobufs (from Steam's proto files) because even the example documentation on Steam had some, but it didn't show to get said protobuf into the URL, only just the protobuf itself. There's examples of how to PUT protobufs, but not GET. Any other suggestions? I don't want to bother you anymore, but if there's nothing else I can do, I will resort to web scraping and that will be that.
Also really wish there was a way to ping people without annoying them too much.
It's JSON protobuf.
Well yes, but apparently the Steam api consumes it and returns it as JSON. Hold on.
in put and post sure
https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/webapi/IGameNotificationsService
At GetSessionDetailsForApp, it's a GET request.
ĀÆ_(ć)_/ĀÆ
If you can't figure it out forget about it, I really don't want to give you any trouble.
I can probably find a GET request that doesn't need an API key if you want, as that one is partners only anyway.
why are u even trying to use that param
It was an example. The one I'm trying to use is date_range_created on QueryFiles of IPublishedFileService, so that when I'm going through the pages, a page will keep the same content regardless of the time.
(As in, new content will not push the IDs of other stuff onto another page).
The API for it doesn't offer a "oldest to newest", only a "newest to oldest".
As such, I don't really have a choice but to limit the dates to prevent new content from pushing content on other pages downwards (due to new items).
and ure sure thats a valid param?
Should be. https://steamapi.xpaw.me/#IPublishedFileService/QueryFiles shows it as a valid parameter, but it's a message. And as far as I can tell, the other parameters on said QueryFiles do indeed function.
An automatically generated list of Steam Web API interfaces, methods and parameters. Allows you to craft requests in the browser.
And to note: this just takes the Steam's API's "GetSupportedAPIList".
So it's straight from Steam itself, and more up to date than the official Steam API documentation.
I also tried sending the request via POST, but steam rejects it and tells me to use GET.
For example, this should have been valid, as this uses the .proto files that Steam provides, and was generated with MessageToJsonString:
{
"date_range_created": {
"timestamp_start": 1325376000,
"timestamp_end": 1388534400
}
}
But sure enough, it isn't. Even with or without whitespace, with or without curly brackets being converted to %whatever, with or without newlines, etc.
It checkouts in a JSON to Protobuf converter, and Steam's own "session" message also checks out. So that's why I kinda started asking what the hell I'm supposed to do in this regard.
id assume sanely split into 2 params
Yup.
&created_date_range_filter_start=1325376000&created_date_range_filter_end=1388534400
ofc devs cant have that
Though, I might still be able to reduce the amount of queries I send if I use both web scraping and the Steam API.
But what a stupid fucking solution, jesus.
Anyway, thanks again for verifying my worry: Steam's API sucks ass
more Steam API and URL bullshit: you can have more than 30 items on a workshop search if you modify your cookie. The normal limit is 30, but you can set the cookie to 100.
To make matters worse, there's a URL parameter, but it does fucking nothing
iPad when?
end of the year
end of the year when?
How much storage is a little in NAS terms, I wonder?
Or would little refer to the physical size of the NAS?
Yes
Thanks
Really helpful
I wonder
Does Lil Nas X have a little NAS?
I wanna make a PiNAS
"Hey Google, play The Lost One's Weeping by Jubyphonic"
Plays random song
"hey Google, okay The Lost One's Weeping English cover"
Plays Jubyphonic's cover that I initially asked for
ok so voice recognition or search did not match with what you had intended
thats pretty normal
Seems like a recent thing
I have had speechTOtext issues as well
Idk why it played the right song when I did NOT specify the artist name but when I didn't, it played the right song
because thats just how the search results are sometimes
either that or it thought you said something else in either the song or artist name
It's wack
idk why you expect it to be flawless when regular youtube search has the same issues
I'm still impressed I can tell it to play my personal music playlist
Will there ever be a 75% version?
Possible but do not hold your breath that long
aww
In that case force then to make the deskpad
Ordered mine yesterday
Say that 4 times with each being faster than the last
can anyone recommend a 4k, at least 144hz, 1ms monitor?
@astral haven what was the monitor you got, was it the G7?
I was thinking about the LG 27GN950-B but I don't know if there is something better
4K at 27"? Yikes.
what's wrong with that?
Scaling exists you know, and on windows it works pretty well unlike linux
It doesn't in games.
I've had 30" 4K monitors and I would never, ever play most games on one cause of poor scaling options (if any)
Hell my 34" is 1440P (which sometimes is just on the hairline edge of being too small)
I have never had such issues on 24inch 1440p back when I still used it
the only thing that can give me trouble is reading text on dark themes
I would say it highly depends on your content, if you play something like Anno or factorio with lots of ui you're more likely to have issues in that regard than if your games are valorant or the likes
Mhmm. More text and UI? More potential for issues and poor scaling options.
I only play competitive games that's why I don't want a monitor that's > 27"
Maybe, still I never have issues on 27inch 1440p, and most games do have a ui scaling option.
I don't get this argument at all. Whatever do you mean?
I mostly play games that have small text
Basically the argument is you wnat a good overview of everything on screen, larger screens require more eye movement
If you play LoL you don't want a big screen, to much eye travel
at full screen
if you mostly play competitive games maybe look at 1440p 360hz monitors instead? would be something more in line I think
As someone using a 34" Ultrawide .... what? eye travel? Do you not have peripheral vision?
in his case framerate is less important in lol
peripheral vision exists but is not detailed enough
I assume this wont turn off the SSDs too?
It will.
I think carmonbens monitor is a 4k 240hz but I dont remember the model thats why I pinged him earlier, that would probably a good fit
Personally for regular non competitive gaming 27inch seems like a sweetspot at roughly arm length.
and my arms are long
so I sit at roughly 70cm away
I sit up close to mine.
About a full keyboard length worth (too lazy to get up and find a ruler š )
Another thing is I like to use my setup for productivity as well and for that having 4 screens is most covenient. Going larger than 27inch would take up too much space, and no I do not want to stack vertically.
bezels, bezels everywhere
Right now I use 3x 27inch 1440p and one 24inch 1200x1920
I don't mind them at all
sure if you could get a single double bent 7680*1440 screen split in software it would be better but I really don't mind not having it.
I also don't need to have 3 of the same monitors,
Gigabyte M28U?
Samsung Odyssey G8
Everything has to be to a certain degree of accuracy, plus astigmatic folks
Can't speak for others but I have zero issues spotting tiny movements in my periphery.
Some people are slower in that regard
It's not about spotting it's about identifying
Enough to subconsciously decide whether or not to pay attention to it š
A larger screen and curved could be beneficial if you sit rather far from your monitor
Since youād have the entire screen in view
Itās really measurement dependent
if you sit far some curve still works but it needs to be shallower
If itās to the point where text becomes illegible then itās countering the advantage
Well 1000R is defo for close range
My Lenovo is 1500R and I would basically need to touch my nose to it to get a view that's purely monitor xD
it also depends on the size of the screeen of course
Yea
I did say that, a larger flat screen at least would be to some advantage as sitting further away enough allows a view of more things
in focus at once
but too far and you canāt see shit then itās useless
would work with a 27ā, canāt speak for 43ā
or 49ā
Life's too short for small monitors. I want immersion, not an iPad š
I personally never used a curved screen, but I don't think it will suite me well.
You stop noticing within a week. I genuinely can't tell that my monitor is curved until I stand up and stare down at it.
how does it work when looking at off angles
like centering your eyes at the right side of the monitor, things like that
I tend to do that at times
I can draw a straight line in Photoshop and it will appear straight no matter where I focus my eyes. They adapt.
Thinking about it I could at some point in the future go with a 34inch mildely curved monitor for my center screen sometime in the future.
but for now I have little reason to change things up
It's like the Parthenon. It looks straight on photos, but it's actually curved by design to trick perspective curving.
to be honest I have tried it for a bit at some demo's and such, and never minded it.
I can in general be pretty conservative about these things
Either way multi monitor will be a thing I use as it works rather efficently for me and gaming immersion is only secondary to that.
I love the IDEA of multi monitor. But there are just major hurdles that need to be addressed before I can jump in on those instead of buying wide ass monitors to achieve a similar screen space.
- Bezels (like at at all. We need panels that can click together and function like those flip phones)
- Apps that don't deal well with multi monitor (cursor escapes) or going exclusive fullscreen and blanking all other monitors.
bezels sure, personally don't mind them as every screen is it's separate thing.
Full screen troubles, not really that big a deal most of the time, and I have used it for years on windows. On linux there are some other hurdles but full screen programs is not one of them.
I play a -lot- of older games that don't deal well š
- the occasional issue when your monitors are not the same hz that it can drop frames on the higher fps games...
Never had too much issues myself, and I have been using multi monitor setups since the early 2010's
sure the cursor escaped from time to time but in those games you just alt tabed back in to fix it
On Nvidia cards itās a known issue with using hardware accelerated things on the lower hz screens
I have it too sometimes but it doesnāt appear to be directly related to it so Iām not sure
I mostly run linux now where the issues are bit different.
on xorg you can only have adaptive sync when using a single monitor for example and the desktop renders at the lowest refresh rate internally.
On wayland it's generally fixed but I am using nvidia
I think that issue is present on all Nvidia drivers but itās not something happening to everyone
I love that a few days ago I was talking about this to someone and everyone said that this was not a thing that happens
Funny right?
But it is
It's been said here before
Me thinks they were talking about not having this issue with non-proprietary nvidia drivers.
Since on linux you dont have to use the drivers made from Nvidia
it is present on all nvidia drivers since the exact cause isn't really known last I checked
so that includes open source drivers
It being an unknown issue doesn't mean it would crop up on drivers not made by nvidia.
But i wont say definitively it isnt an issue on those said drivers for I don't know if it is or isn't. But its easy to imagine they have their own separate issues.
its a decade or longer old issue, I'm fairly certain if some open source driver had a fix for it they would add it to their own drivers by now
Well not exactly.
That would assume the open source shares the same code
Which they legally cant to certain extents
Made by and worked.om by different teams of people: its gonna be different. Unless the issue is the firmware itself
But it being a decade long issue
Sounds like a software issue ported over from older versions and yet fixed. Maybe. They are preserving something old and carrying the old bug.
I had been debating it for months and finally just said screw it
*also it needs to be demonstrated its an issue on these third party drivers.
I just ended up getting a cheap hub myself as I really would only use it when configuring some stuff
I just charge it with one of the two usb-c cables laying on my night stand but I can get it.
Thing is I end up playing it in a lot
For data transfer and other stuff
Like, or would cost me more to buy a hdmi 2 cable etc than just buy this dock
It's very good value
Yea my use is very different so for me it would be relatively poor value
I had an original g7 them I just recently bought a G8 neo
Vinyl??
any tech is fine
People still use vinyl huh
yep
same
I prefer digital
fair enough but if you do ever want to get one
this is mine got it for free off a flea market
changed out the drive belt and put a new cartridge on it
i prefer digital too, vinyl is cool though, although has it's issues like cleaning and maintaining your collection
Pioneer is solid
I believe so
tvs mostly I think
still some audio stuff too
yeah mostly home theater stuff audio wise
neat
but they also make a shit ton of hifi still
but more expensive now and it's worse compared to old stuff
If I'll get a turntable it's Onkyo, JVC, Pioneer or Yamaha
Good old japanese trash
audio Technica turntables are good so I've heard
yep
Ah Audio Technica, they were always solid
I like the IDEA of vinyl. But I just can't live without instant access to a terabyte of randomized tracks š
But I'll get an RME ADI-2 before I ever get a turntable
vinyl is more of a side thing for me
but I have amazon music hd on the side
which is terrible
but everything else is worse
those go for around 700 used right?
New they still go for a grand here
Used I didn't check, but definitely cheaper
Amazing piece of tech
yep
I just have a local flac library, most of the artists i listen to don't have their music on streaming platforms
r2r dacs are something special
fair enough
I'm looking at a motu m2 as an all in one for me right now
Someone's selling one rn for 450$ https://www.ebay-kleinanzeigen.de/s-anzeige/rme-adi-2-ad-da-wandler-adat/2137773686-172-9508
cop it
Not german
oh wait
most of the artists are Japanese doujin artists who didn't sell their soul to sony
I'll split the price if you split the machine and send half to me
tbh could probably sell the parts for more than what it's getting sold for
no moni
smol
I usually play on a MacBook
Itās a hard decision too between mini led contrast and glossy vs 27ā
But for story games like LiS I tend to use 27ā and controller and just be further away
Strangest headline I read today xd
that's odd
Was this 2 or 3 times already?
And lana commented right under one of the previous posts
Imagine a world where i can attempt to repair my mouse without a warranty.
Oh wow ai image creation is pretty amazing ngl
dall-e is everywhere i see
warranty
I didnt pay for the warranty
every product has basic warranty...
is it in the document that came with it cause I dont have the box cause I moved
Dead pixels are a bit of a jungle sadly.
well thats another point, first point is to see if its still inside of warramty
is it older than two years
oh how tf I get the serial number.... hmm one sec
Usually either a sticker on the back or shown on the OSD in the right menu
Manufacturer warranty is one thing
Seller warranty is another
EU warranty is a third
Welcome to dead pixel hell.
i didnt notice it until playing muse dash
cause its right where the damn hit marker is .-.
just try
Yeah nothing to lose by trying
hp is an automated chat bot
got to pick an answer
gee thanks
I know its not dirt .-.
if its a dead pixel why not just say dead pixel instead of something more vague
bruh
this was the closest option it gave me
ull have to call em or email them
what do you mean closes option, you typed something did you not?
it wants me to contact them via whatsapp or support community
they already closed for today on the whatsapp support
send a whatsapp anyway so they know u contacted them inside the warranty
did it
Looks like dall e mini is quite a bit worse at generating faces compared to midjourney
But it isnāt so good at snowy owls
To be fair it seems like it developed in reaction to dalle
Dall e mini just seems to take images
Like I have both a prompt to create member of one musical band as member of the Spanish inquisitions
Midjourney vs dall e, dall e didnāt even do the prompt
They all take some kind of inspiration and change it up
Except for the new ones
Those do some magic fuckery
Yeah midjourney seems really good
I heard some people are using it to sell nft's with at least some success even.
Can imagine that
NFTs
then again the crypto crowd is well...
So selling proof of ownership of an image that is not even copyrightable
Now I am considering getting midjourney for a month because itās just so good
You pay for it?
I applied for Dalle2 access recently
I heard they are looking for more and more testers
No but thinking of it
Since ran out of free trial
Midjourney seems better than Dalle2 anyways
Though itās Better than dall e mini for sure
Actually dall e 2 seems better for some stuff
for midjourney you own the copyright to any image you create if you have a license
Didnāt US court say sth about AI images not being possible to copyright?
Court? Don't think so. But lawyers pointed out that US copyright law doesn't exactly lend itself to automation. It relies a ton on the work of an individual.
Well yeah but the faces are weird.
And for me Spanish inquisiton didnāt work on dall e
why the fuck is double clicking a window and clicking maximize not maximizing my windows on the center and right section but is working on the left š
Seems the poster is veritable
that image is from gpt 3 btw so we know nothing new
I mean if Dalle is anything to go by, the jump from GPT-2 to 3 is sizeable
GPT-4 will be even more impressive
I just don't know how this strategy of "let's keep hoarding instructions on this stuff" scales
Cause all these things are is just hundreds upon thousands of instructions
Isn't GPT-4 supposed to have like 100T of those
its how our brain works so how else do you want to do it
first paragraph - composite shapes
just realised its about AI capabilities š
Is it ok to leave a computer plugged in when not using it? Does it put extra strain on the PSU?
Like, it's shut off
But the wall socket is still on
Uh
I usually turn off the power at the wall too when I am done with the computer
no need
Ook... Good good
It's a pain to turn off that plug
Got to slide into the narow gap between the desk and wall and bend down side ways to get to it
@wheat plume in terms of when not using it long term like sleeping I believe it would be best to turn it off. Save on electricity. Wipe the RAM clean and remove any memory leak issues and things like that when starting fresh.
Some apps or programs aren't well made and will hog your RAM in the background or even when "closed"
interesting marketing
Pretty effort lacking too
Sth seems wrong at first sight, thought itās not as bad I thought at first still no shadows
Yeah donāt have that here
Older standard but still seen in most places.
But at least you can set your water temperature from the sink or in the shower here
Switches are becoming less common in new buildings, but since we have a very strict "gotta be an electrician professional to legally touch this" existing buildings don't really have their sockets changed. It's also quite common in kitchens and other places where you don't want idle power.
So many sinks in the UK have hot and cold water separately, and I have seen shower where for some reason water temperature was tied to water pressure so to not freeze you had to use ton of water.
It's mostly an insurance question I believe. My dad's always done wiring and just had an electrician friend sign off on it.
They are here.
Or rather all of that has to be in a sort of central house paperwork thing with the state.
New YouTube UI...
At least the comments are easier to see now
Indeed of being a very thin sliver across the screen above the suggested videos
Xddd
True
I generally do, want to see them, however not on my phone, there I just download the video and play it that way.
In desktop
I usually sandbox YouTube or I send an videos into mpv to play them
The inconsistency is hurting me
Some dialog menus are tethered to the bottom of the screen
Some of them float
Playlist selection sticks to bottom
Video resolution menu floats
The share menu is stuck too
Revanced also contains viruses last time I sent it through virustotal
Got 5 matches
I like the modern designs sm just the circular aspect of it
I like it too
But currently it's way too inconsistent
There was an YouTube ad YouTube music app update yesterday
But I was using it last night and I didn't see this new design until this morning
So maybe it's a test design where they send it out to random people?

Why is gEdit installed on the Steam Deck?!
It uses Plasma desktop which is QT
Gedit is a GTK Gnome desktop app
Because whoever made that vid you're watching installed it
he didnt, he just unboxed it
unless he did it while after the cut waiting for it to update
It's not installed on mine. Discover only shows flatpak stuff on SteamOS
hhhmmmm
Strange, maybe he did install it fdr some reason

THIS WAS A COLLEGE PROJECT
THERE IS NO WAY THE COLLEGE I WENT TO WOULD APPROVE THIS LOL
Yea it's pretty nice
its ok
I don't think its all that bad tbh
amir has strong opinions on it. He recommends it
https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/review-and-measurements-of-massdrop-thx-aaa-789-amp.5001/
This is a review and detailed measurements of the just Massdrop THX AAA 789 headphone amplifier. It was drop shipped by request of a kind member for testing. It retails for USD $349.99. The unit had a log gestation period with customers having to wait months to receive the first allotment...
That's in Modi 3 ballpark of pricing
ye
Do these have QC issues
I see a lot of them with faults being on sale
Non working, switches off randomly, stuck on red light
That's not a good indication of quality
the only issue I had with mine was with the pot being a bit crackly from corrosion
but that was fixed with some deoxit
but other than that mines had no issues
my only gripe with the rme adi 2 is that it doesn't play nicely with roon
ye
Too bad they go second hand for over 230$ rn in Europe
when I turn it off it crashes my audio drivers and crashes my pc

DistroTube - 2022
One of the most often complaints that you will hear about Linux is that there are too many distros that all do the same thing. These complaints do have some validity, but at the same time, I feel these complaints miss the point. This morning I'm drinking my coffee and trying to decide on a dessert to go with it...
WANT TO SUPPORT THE CHANNEL?...
windows reset all my eq apo device drivers to default
and now my mic eq isn't working
Yeah
Then the app is safe
Seems like Apple isn't the only cunt doing this
Well shit how to deandroid my phone
grapheneos
Also they said he went the images to his wife's phone
apple is not doing it after the backlash at the very least
and, admittedly, had a better approach
google just fucking marks young naked people as child porn???
Even the fucking police knew Google done fucked in Mark's case
And Google are like "nah bruh, bye bye all your accounts data"
what clown world does the person creating the algorithm live in
google wants no liability as a company they don't care about 1 user
happens all the time
as long as google doesn't see it they're clear
āFrom Googleās perspective, itās easier to just deny these people the use of their services,ā she speculated. Otherwise, the company would have to resolve more difficult questions about āwhatās appropriate behavior with kids and then whatās appropriate to photograph or not.ā
Just a russian thing to do
Heās not
Itās the case with my parents
Pretty sure Google is the kind of company who has an algorithm to detect whether or not a naked female has visible tits
If not then theyāre children, even if theyāre just flat chested adults
surprising how nobody once questioned whether this is a good idea or not
One of my classmates did
When apple first announced the feature
and was very much against it
The job being left to government agencies to do
having a algorithm decide anything that can effect a persons life is something it should never have control over
Because skilled humans (donāt take this the wrong way) are better than algorithms, especially in this kind of critical context
Unlike algorithms, yes those can think
But thought Is merely a combination of their programming in an algorithm whereas humans have common sense
even with Humans in charge I'd still be wary since there still is likely no context
yes, but you would thing that the police can make the appeal with him to Google
cause the police know hes good
with the police??
they showed police report
Well I mean FBI/CIA would think twice or more before making a move against someone they suspect has child porn
its easier for google to just not have to deal with anything related to that person
so a company perspective would be to leave as is
Like no previous criminal record? Could be bribed to do a job and inexperienced, or just trying to move on with life
i mean i basically took the same approach
Why are they making it 5 grand extra?
they arent?
seems like they are increasing price to 15k so 3k more not 5
as for why, they basically say thats how much its worth
Wait it's normally 12k?
The price will increase to $15,000 from $12,000 on Sept. 5, Musk said in a tweet.
Hmmm....
Thought it was 10k
what the hell who would pay that
Especially since all the required hardware is already in the car
You are paying to use the hardware you already have
because this is not like a simple heated seat that you turn on or off, its software that is still getting developed, getting updates etc.
now idk if that prices is low or high
but it absolutely is expensive and not "already included anyway"
it is god damn stupid is what it is
I would rather save 15k and drive myself, always. But I guess there are still somehow wealthy people š
ngl plenty of bad drivers out there where its probably safer if they dont drive anymore lmfao
but yeah, its not going to be cheap for decades, but it's not the same as already included hardware
unless you think for 500 dollars you can develop self driving then I agree it no longer should cost more than just the hardware cost š
selfdriving is just useless overall
Until there can be guarantee the loss of transportation jobs can be replaced for the workers somewhere else.
But it's just overall useless thing
nah
at some points its going to be safer than humans driving, allows you to drive while being drunk to some degree
loss of transportation jobs seems fine for me because that can be planned way ahead and makes it so we fit people in other places that are needed
still useless, still affected by bugs, hiccups, packet loss and whatnot
I mean do you expect it to work perfectly from the start?
if we just talk about the current state sure I agree
you just replace seizures with bugs & hiccups basicly
Increases energy costs, even if it's more efficient than human driving
more Co2
bad bad bad
using more electricity only means more co2 if its not from solar or so
also imagine all the shitty 80+ year olds that still drive even when they fucking should stay at home and not risk a crash every day
Solar is definitely not co2 free. Do not exclude REE mining used in PV panels.
its just a simplified example, take whatever other renewable then
I do not see a single benefit for the next 50 years, tech still too crab
well tech doesnt suddenly exist and works the best way it can
let's see after 100 years with improved efficiency/100% uptime.
ye ofc but its so shite now it shouldnt be allowed on roads
nah it should just not be marketed as full self driving
its supported driving or whatever would be a good name
LOL, maybe for you and I, but 32.32424% of the people would just snooze off on the wheel
well I think people do that because its marketed as full self driving
People are too stupid for that, marketing aside. Be it showing off, straight up stupidity, being lazy, or w/e reason.
But I'm a pessimist. Maybe it'll/they'll prove me wrong.
Tesla markets their solution as autonomous self driving in big banner ads, and only specify that it's only 50% self driving in the fine text.
Fun fact google skipped this lower tier of self driving in favour of trying to immediately get to the most advanced version because they knew a half/half version like Tesla's would tank confidence in the technology.
Anyone try out the viper v2 pro ?
Why that mouse lol
Looks appealing Iāll give you that, but for itās weight there are lighter options or matching for a lot less pay
I recommend the new Pulsar X2 and X2 Mini, Pulsar Xlite range, upcoming Fantech Aria XD7, G-wolves HSK, ASUS TUF M4 Air
I had and sold the x2, and HSK. Only ask about the v2 pro cause I have the ultimate and like the shape lmao, theres also used options for 90
Just after a clone lighter I see
1 fps raytraced gaming eh
I don't see the point of these even in professional hands
You'd have a gpu for that
intel is trying to pretend their igpus can do something
I like the name "system on a chip" though
There's a market for big iGPUs that are like half sized GPUs with sufficient power to power 1080p gaming
And a strong CPU
Stop talking about apple
Entirely soc, ram as well
Stop talking about Intel then
I'm talking about AMD and Intel
AMD's going to prolly release their system on a chip first
I think I did hear about a 20 iGPU core product
Might launch next year
That sounds great
Still idk if I would call it an soc without ram
But with amd it makes sense
Considering they tend to make console APUs
Just gotta bring that to consumer market
We should get more AMD CPU leaks any day now
Typically the presentation gets leaked like 1-3 days before the event
Just a dumb statement
Consoles are not consumer products?
I mean the apus themselves
Apus also exist for Diy and they will release rdna ones with the new generation I'm sure
Well yeah but amd apus for dyi rn have a lot weaker GPU than console ones
I just adressed that
Also apus for previous generations were often bottlenecked by ram so I don't know how much of an improvement rdna would have been considering how much it would have cost to develop
Problem is there is a much smaller market for high end GPUs in APU.
Consoles obviously but for "end users" it means more expensive cooling and system memory that's fast.
RDNA2 with its massive cache would help with the memory bandwidth and AMD could easily do an APU with HBM ondie which was one of their end goals with that technology
Would be interesting to have apus with some integrated vram
With rdna3 being chiplet design it's way more likely that we see some fully fledged APUs rather than just limited to custom designs like consoles
okay, so itās actually a good thing now
considering it was impossible to get macbook displays
Whats typically put in consoles are custom versions of the APUs.
But yeah general consumer based APUs that are on the higher performance end would be cool but mayhaps too tricky to do in a small package to compete with large graphic cards.
A big chunk of it is the expensive memory that needs to be packaged with it, for consoles it makes sense as they can combine it all so buying everything as a complete thing is better software wise and cost aspects.
ms and Sony have massive orders that it's fine for custom designs, they want it in a small form factor as well which is why APU designs are much more appealing.
I'm just thankful next gen ryzen will all have a basic GPU included as the IO die now has integrated graphics. Not for games but handy when debugging a GPU being broken or if you just want it for desktop work!
Yeah I get wanting a backup display always on standby.
But probably just as expensive as buying a new Macbook with Applecare. And only on their newest models.
Intentionally over priced
One of the big advantages console APUs have, is that there is only (traditionally) only one version of an APU, running a very lightweight operating system. Makes it easier when optimizing an engine if you don't have to worry about a half dozen generations of silicon between 4 vendors, in which accelerators are dropped, added, and modified between generations, a minimum RAM capacity, minimum disk capacity (but what dev this day even cares laughs in 100GB download), and that to a more minor extent that the game could be installed on a HDD, SATA SSD, or NVME SSD.
A consumer APU suffers from similar problems a PC would have in that there would invariably be 2 manufacturers (Intel, and AMD), with half a dozen different generations and so on
Aye. Consoles typically have more access to the metal of the hardware where as thats typically a no no within PC for security reasons.
That's not true
Consoles have a similar level of access as PCs these days
Thanks drm
The only difference is the code can be directly optimized for one exact combination of hardware (or two) instead of 10 million
And a consumer apu of the same speed as the console would perform the same as the console
The os overhead these days is microscopic for both CPU and active ram usage (paging is goated)
okay, fair. My brain was still stuck on older stuff.
well. except for the window OS. that shit hogs resources.
or will cause an infinite search loop and make your drive scream and die
sometimes*
Thats usually a hard drive specific bug
And it doesn't use much
It uses the same amount of resources as Xbox os does lmao
windows ain't hogging much of my available resources, and this hardware is old
nah I'm not talking about hardware failure or when windows is doing a scan. I'm talking about those moments where for some reason it's doing this search thing that... damn I need to find the name of it. It drives disk usage to 100% and requires turning off the windows feature to stop it in the command console. gotta google it again, been like a year since i had it.
"Windows Search Facility"
that was it
had to enter net.exe stop "Windows search"
happened a total of 5 times, so annoying DX<
Probably was the search indexer
Which is disableable but really speeds up searching and the start menu
Any version of Windows past 7 has major issues with hard drives, at least from my personal experience. Always stuck at 100%.
You just want to let it run it's course
8 works fine on hdd
10 can work on very very fast high end hdds
I don't think my laptop had a disk drive in it. was pretty sure I only put solid states in it.
I could be misremembering though.
Dramless SSD = HDD basically
thats a possibility I didn't consider.
anyways you can't "let it run its course" though
it's an infinite search loop
it doesn't stop until you force it to.
It's not only that
Windows Defender is also part of the problem
It'll start scanning when it wants, and it's a pain in the ass to stop.
On shitty prebuilt desktop computers you find in businesses and etc, it will drive the system to a complete stop.
lol oh def yeah. i've had my fair share of that waiting for clients computer to finish with those and explaining to them.
Another thing that is notoriously bad is the updates, both downloading and applying them.
Even worse when it gets stuck in a loop of updating and then un-updating(?).
Yeah. Linux (on non source distributions), it's still iterative, but way fucking quicker. On source distributions, it's way longer and way more complex.
I like how Fedora updates
anything related to system functions, it installs them on a reboot so there is no risk of the thing being used when its updated
I get notifications for updates and its all just choice. But I am pretty 100% sure there is an option and way to auto-update
oh you meant on windows thing
It's a complicated but also stupid problem.
I have only been told there is an update after its already downloaded and installed it and its at the "Pending Restart" stage
ye
On one hand, Windows (and most sysadmins and etc) wants the updates installed to avoid exploits going rampant or etc. On the other hand, doing so fucks everyone over, people who need uptime since they're rendering a video or they're typing a document and etc.
IMO choice should be given, but apparently Windows thinks otherwise, even with all the registry hacks and other bullshit.
Not to mention the fact that it's impossible to create a Win10 install without an account unless you don't have an internet connection. Wouldn't surprise me if eventually those forced updates strip out features or even make the system paid to use, and as such, is why the forced updates exist.
Ah once again hearing the problems I don't have because I have the pro version, lovely
Incorrect, just needs some knowhow
- Every single large update settings are reset.
Also incorrect
that is incorrect
I dunno, when I "upgraded" to 11 it didn't reset any settings that I can remember
My main install started on 7 and I upgraded all the way to 11 including win 8 (original)
My power settings have persisted the entire time, as have background and lock settings
I added in update disabling in early won 10 and it's been kept ever since
I make windows 10 installs and install windows 10 without accounts all the time. without editing the image. ( you want to disconnect the device from internet)
You don't need to do that
Right, as I mentioned, unless you don't have an internet connection.
Well yeah that's another option, but let's be honest, why the fuck should we even need to do that in the first fucking place?
well yeah that can work and all but, like. I can just unplug the ethernet for a minute and then plug it back in lol
Also, as for the settings being kept: Search windows 10 settings are reset after update "privacy"
Guarantee you that my settings were not kept.
it not being the default or a hassle is still different from you claiming " it's impossible"
I set up 5-10 PCs at a time remotely, and it's much quicker to just run the command
this is why im not using windows anymore
Right, near impossible for the average user.
as for settings, on my 2 and 5 year old windows machines nothing was ever reset and they update whenever, nothing reset
Don't know what to say then. Maybe it's regional or just multiple fucked installs. Doesn't help that I also got bit by the bug that deleted all my files. ĀÆ_(ć)_/ĀÆ
As such, Windows >7 can fuck right off.
You don't need to change your mind, but be aware there are facts that you have that are incorrect
Speed of updates is all you brought up
And I addressed that
It took me steam deck 25 minutes to update too lel
well aye, when doing it remotely tis a different story. I was doing it by hand physically at location with the devices.
I don't know the specifics about the Steam Deck, but it taking 25 minutes to update sounds like an issue with the distribution itself or the drive.
Ya
So it's basically easy enough that a random user can do it
But here's the secret
It's actually better that people use Ms accounts
Because without Ms accounts the data on the drive can't be encrypted for the average end user
I love this sentence.
The other thing is that Ms accounts will eventually be required for all devices in an enforced manner so that stolen devices can't be used with windows again for example
Our enterprise already has that partially set up
25 minutes to update? certainly weird. Mine didn't do that.
Yeah it doesn't really take that long, maybe the first one took a while though
But also you can just keep using it while updating and then do the old re-boot when done
Same could be said for windows...
Indeedlydoo
Heck half of my windows updates don't even need a reboot
And holy crap macos
What a disaster
Our M1 Mac mini lost it's password in an update
And that was when I learned you could reset the password to a non apple id connected Mac with only keyboard access -_-
Even windows requires a hacking tool of some kind
So if you disable booting to external devices you can't just walk up and reset it
But for macos it's built into recovery
Wtaf
Used to be built in*
Did they remove it in 13?
They removed it ages ago by removing it from the machines. Now you either boot into a recovery partition on a functional hdd/ssd or gotta boot from a disc.
Good old days when you could just boot into recovery from a blank hdd and download everything from the web are long over.
No you misunderstand
Files on the computer stayed
Apps stayed
The account stayed
But we are able to reset the password still
We're clearly talking about two different things here - I'm pointing out that the recovery system is gone from the motherboard.
Ya
I'm talking about working macos install where you forgot the password (or it reset itself on it's own)
Imagine needing encryption outside of a corporate environment.
An OS I cannot access through a 2nd PC through a basic ass command prompt without a password is not an OS I want to have in my home š
What I don't understand is someone being able to walk up to my computer, restart it, and reset my password and walk away with it
Unless ofc you give all your data to the big fruit
Step 1 : Don't have your shit stolen.
Step 2 : Don't buy shit that lets you hardware lock it.
?
On windows you at least can disable USB boot without a password to prevent hacking tools
On macos the hacking tool is built in??????
No you cannot.
