PPK - ResuRection (Official Video)

PPK (Russian: ППК) is a notable Russian trance duo that was based primarily in Rostov-on-Don. The group consisted of Sergei Pimenov and Alexander Polyakov. PPK name is the acronym of founding members' initials, K was for short-time member DJ Kordj (Roman Korzhov).

PPK became popular abroad due to their single...

But hey - At least I have one on Spotify I can listen. PPK and all πŸ˜„

"ResuRection" (Russian: Π’ΠΎΡΠΊΡ€Π΅ΡˆΠ΅Π½ΠΈΠ΅, pronounced [vΙ™skrΚ²ΙͺΛˆΚ‚Ι›nΚ²Ιͺje], lit. 'Resurrection') is a song by Russian trance group PPK. It was released in 2001 as the lead single from their debut album Reload. The melody is based on the original melody "La mort du hΓ©ros" ("Death of the hero") written by Eduard Artemyev for the 1979 Russian (Soviet) movie...

ngl I still have no clue what flatpak means, to me it looks like there is now some battle of two different forms of doing apps on linux

astral haven
#

Two?

#

Most base distros have their own competing packaging style

ashen spindle
#

idk I just hear the name flatpak and non flatpak

astral haven
ashen spindle
#

oh god

junior ore
#

just another choice you can have is all.

#

its about choice.

#

its not complicated.

#

@ashen spindle you know .zip and .rar?

astral haven
#

That's not the same thing at all

ashen spindle
#

yeah I dont think that analogy fits

astral haven
#

I believe a better analogy would be msis vs self extracting archives

junior ore
#

aye, they have executable versions

astral haven
#

The problem is instead of 1 official option and 2 total options, there are 4 options

junior ore
#

There is an official option. Everything else is user choice, at your discretion. which is a non-issue.

#

Like. literally a non-issue.

#

If you know you want to paint paint your house red, you look at the red options. you can ignore the blues and greens.

astral haven
#

You literally just had an issue

junior ore
#

I had an issue because I did a dumb.

astral haven
#

Lmao

junior ore
#

I already knew I should have used the flatpak version of Firefox from the start because I saw the news regarding Steam wanting to drop the current one.

#

but I procrastinated and then didn't think about it when I did the update that literally said they were going to uninstall it.

astral haven
#

Soooooooo you didn't actually have a choice

junior ore
#

NO I could have not updated, exported my bookmarks, and then did the update.

#

or have used the flatpak version frm the start.

astral haven
#

Woosh

junior ore
#

My choice was inaction

astral haven
#

The problem is this is a device available retail that isn't in beta

junior ore
#

aye

astral haven
#

Why is it deleting installed programs at all?

junior ore
#

because the version it was using was no longer being maintained, I believe, and it was a security vulnerability so they had to switch it.

#

I can double check real quick though

astral haven
#

I have several 10+ year old programs on my PC that work fine
Updating to win 11 didnt delete any of the ones I installed...

junior ore
#

okay i checked : yeah Valve did a goof and accidentally put in an outdated version of Firefox. accidents happened and they fixed the issue.

#

tell that to internet explorer πŸ˜›

ashen spindle
#

the reason the analogy doesnt really work for me is that regardless of if I used a zip or rar to get what I wanted, afterwards it doesn't matter anymore, whereas we see here it does matter at a later point

junior ore
#

not sure what you mean Quinn. Though yeah it is pretty big difference unless you manually download the packages.

astral haven
#

Also the only reason I keep Firefox around is so that I can access some local devices that don't support recent versions of ssl or use self signed certs
Chrome auto updates itself and ie is the one thing Microsoft deleted with win 11

junior ore
#

cause some fo these packages don't contain copies of the libraries for the programs and such

#

aye.

#

Because IE was hot garbage and needed to be dropped liek it was hot. Valve did the same thing. They acknowledged and fixed it though much faster than microsoft though.

astral haven
#

Ok
How do you install an old version of Firefox then?
And have it not remove itself...

crimson wigeon
#

But also you can just move your old profiles from ~/.mozilla/firefox to ~/.var/app/org.mozilla.firefox/.mozilla/firefox

junior ore
#

it was maybe a bad/buggy version

#

oooor within the linux enviornment you control the updates. I control my updates.

crimson wigeon
#

Basically what happened is that Valve shipped an old version of Firefox in the base immutable OS, and Valve is lazy with updates so they took it out of the OS itself and delegated to Flatpak, the right thing to do IMO

junior ore
#

yeah.

#

also wait you saying I can get my old profile stuff back?

crimson wigeon
#

Yes I just did it ecks dee

junior ore
#

thanks mate ❀️

#

guess wasn't a problm after all

fair gull
#

well its only not a problem if you know what to do

astral haven
#

A problem with a solution is still a problem...

junior ore
#

a solved problem

astral haven
#

I'm probably going to run into that problem in a few hours lel

#

For you

junior ore
#

and for others as the knowledge is known and spread.

#

I probably should have googled it. again I was being lazy.

astral haven
#

Lel

junior ore
#

I told you that! πŸ˜›

astral haven
#

Copium

fair gull
#

couldnt valve have symlinked it somehow

#

or flatpack could magically move it

astral haven
#

It simply doesn't inspire confidence in this product that I don't even have yet lol

junior ore
#

no its sandboxed for security reasons. it's not supposed to reach outside of what its suppose to do which is handy in not needing to allow admin access.

#

you aren't going to have this issue because you'd be up to date πŸ˜›

#

and you might not be as lazy as me.

astral haven
#

Reread what I said

junior ore
#

I'm saying is you wont have this same issue*

astral haven
#

And that wasn't what I said

junior ore
#

I thought you said it earlier though?

astral haven
#

Also no

junior ore
#

my bad then

astral haven
#

I said the problem wasn't solved
What has been solved is the symptom that you experienced

junior ore
#

uh no th problem with Firefox was solved.

#

for all decks. the bad version of firefox is gone if your deck is updated.

astral haven
#

The "problem" with Firefox is simply a symptom of the packaging problem

junior ore
#

do you mean the linux packaging system or do you mean packaging as in product as it is open box?

astral haven
#

...

junior ore
#

not the literal box*

#

I mean the provided product brand new*

astral haven
#

The problem is Linux hasn't incorporated a packaging format
One symptom of that is there are 4 competing methods of distributing apps
That causes additional symptoms like this Firefox update issue

junior ore
#

wait

#

you refer to linux like its some entity

crimson wigeon
#

This was a SteamOS fuckup. But could the transition have gone smoother? Absolutely!

junior ore
#

"Linux hasn't done [x]"

astral haven
#

Linux is an entity just the same as the internet or microsoft

junior ore
#

also no this firefox isn't wasn't because of the packaging system or issues of that.

#

this was valve

#

putting in a bad version of firefox by accident

#

and it wasn't because of packaging

#

and no the fuck its not lol

#

Microsoft is a corporation run by people tht make decisions for its products.

#

The Internet is a collection of networks banded together, with no single sole owner.

#

Linux is, likewise, not under a single sole owner the controls everything and all these distributions.

astral haven
#

Yes

junior ore
#

It's not a company.

astral haven
#

It's an entity that can be referred to in the same way you can refer to the internet or microsoft

junior ore
#

no it is not.

#

Again Microsoft has actual people behind it.

#

The internet does not have exact specific people that make decisions behind it.

astral haven
#

Yet both are still entities

junior ore
#

They aren't equivalent

astral haven
#

That's not what I said

junior ore
#

why bring them up like they were?

astral haven
#

Thats not what I did

junior ore
#

because, guess what : neither the Linux nor internet have people behind it that make decisions and choices behind it that affect the whole it it. But if microsoft wants something for Windows, it does so.

#

yes you did.

#

anyways, back to the topic

astral haven
junior ore
#

There is not one single owner of all things linux idstro.

astral haven
#

There isn't a single owner of Microsoft either

junior ore
#

So, this imaginary issue that you have with package manger is... imaginary.

astral haven
#

Or the internet

junior ore
#

no stop

#

Windows is owned

#

by Microsoft

#

The people in control of Microsoft

#

dictate the rules of Windows

#

There is no such thing with Linux

astral haven
#

Have you heard of the ietf?

junior ore
#

so fucking stop

astral haven
#

Have you heard of the Linux foundation?

#

They exist

junior ore
#

and are you implying they dictate all linux distributions?

#

cause if not : irrelevant

astral haven
#

That's not what I said

junior ore
#

thats what we are talking about

astral haven
junior ore
#

You keep galloping.

fair gull
astral haven
#

If there is a problem with the entity called the internet, the ietf is what handles it

If there is a problem with the entity called windows, Microsoft handles it

If there is a problem with the entity called Linux, the Linux foundation is what is supposed to handle it

junior ore
#

In terms of Internet Service Providers and governments, aye. But what an internet actually is and can be made of networks communicating with each other. Of which there are hundreds to thousands of ISPs with their own rules and all tht jazz.

astral haven
#

Which doesn't matter for a problem with the internet as a whole

fair gull
#

well i said sort of as the internet itself does rely on a few key people to for example run dns root zones and provide valid root tls certificates

#

and key orgs

junior ore
#

Carmon you are just imagining problems that aren't there. and I'm done with this.

astral haven
#

Lol

junior ore
#

I told you numerous times and you can go look it up : this firefox issue wasn't because of the package system.

astral haven
#

Copium

junior ore
#

you keep saying that like it means something.

astral haven
#

It's a meme

junior ore
#

yeah again : as if it means something

astral haven
junior ore
#

such edge. wow. don't cut yourself.

#

inability to realize something : just throw memes as salt.

shrewd thicket
#

@junior ore mf every part of Linux is exposed to the public just like ur mom. Nothing is dictated anywhere, literally anyone can make Linux into whatever they want. Anyone is free to add onto the kernel or anything above it and even if it's not accepted in the main repository you can literally just fork it

junior ore
#

yup.

#

and then it becomes your fork.

#

with what you put in it.

#

And?

or what you change.

or remove.

shrewd thicket

What are you trying to imply with that

junior ore

it's out of the hands of others.

shrewd thicket

also which partition table*

reef patrol

Should any of that matter if it's reformatting? xD

junior ore

Yes.

reef patrol

Then that's on Valve for being crap at writing software πŸ˜„

junior ore

You set the partition table first.

#

it's not a valve thing

reef patrol

If you set it in Valve software and Valve software fails to do the thing Valve software is intended to do.
It is a valve software thing.

junior ore

it's also not impossible it could be in a format that is proprietary.

#

or its fake.

#

or damaged

reef patrol
#

It's just EXT4.

junior ore
#

no i mean before the card is inserted

#

we don't know what it is, only they know.

#

they as in Cam*

reef patrol
#

I mean... yes we can. Cause you're not given choices.

thick elk
#

I doubt it has anything to do with the current partitions. I would expect them to just create a new partiton table when formatting anyway.

junior ore
#

@reef patrol what not choices?

thick elk
#

To test you could try booting in a live linux distro and just format it there.

junior ore
#

When i inserted my sd card i went to a partition manager and made mine

#

After ensuring the sd card was deleted i went back to game mode and used that formater

thick elk
#

Or you could boot into desktop mode and partition it from kde partion manager for example

junior ore
#

Deleted and set up*

#

Thats what I did

#

My sd card wasnt new

thick elk
#

Mine went fine but it could very well have been in f2fs already, I just grabbed one I had laying around.

junior ore
#

Yeah, its possible it pre sets up a table automatically. I don't know the exact specifics of what the format button does.

reef patrol
thick elk
#

If I were to make the utility for it, I would probably just use sfdisk to create a partition table and format it.
It kind of surprises me valve uses a less reliable method.

#

Oh wait looking at the description that may be a bit naive and could fail

junior ore
#

Ye. Im just saying what I did was preparing more than that because it was my havked switvh SD card and it has multiple partitions.

#

So i had to open the partition manager and start the table fresh

reef patrol
#

Time to do an fdisk and clean dat shit.

thick elk

never mind old tutorials claiming issues.
sfdisk is basically just fdisk but intended to be used in scripts

@astral haven oh yeah one big fault is the annoying Steam Offline mode is still applicable for now, until its changed. You still have to at least at least have booted the game once while online after installing.

After that, to play games off the net you have to go from online to Offline Mode. It will probably throw a hissy fit if you start up the system from turned off to on without any internet and try to play a game. Or maybe I've been doing it wrong. But thats a heads up.

That's not 200mm

shadow minnow

It is

#

But zoomed in

#

But the lens was at 200

astral haven
#

Then it's not 200mm...

shadow minnow
#

Well yeah but I always zoom in, quality is determined by mm.
Or well resolution per some angle or however to call it

#

Still curious how does moon look from a phone, since 10x zoom sounds interesting. What mm is that equivalent to?

astral haven
#

10x =240mm on my phone

#

Filling the frame with the moon requires 100x which is 2400mm equiv

shadow minnow
#

Yeah, and there is resolution loss with that

astral haven
#

Yep

shadow minnow
# shadow minnow

But well looks a bit better than what I can find online from phone to me. Though wish I had more zoom tbf would be better dogekek

shadow minnow

Yeah but it also increases zoom a bit

I think

astral haven

Nope

shadow minnow

This one does afaik

astral haven

It might counteract the inherent focal length loss of the lens, but I doubt it would advertise that

shadow minnow

Idk may have one

astral haven

New ones are horrifically expensive
Ef ones are super cheap

shadow minnow
#

I do have Ef adapter and the 200mm lens is Ef

#

Or well it’s 70-200 2.8

astral haven
#

Ye
So you can get a cheap ef 2x tcon for that

shadow minnow
#

Then I have ef 100mm one that has 1.0 magnification and tube extended that increases that

astral haven
#

Tho 2x tcon = 2x mm and 2x f#

shadow minnow
#

And then some rf lenses, most fixed one 24-105 f4

astral haven

Rf tcons won't be compatible with most lenses

this was cheap as shit tho so I won't complain

much

#

I love how they advertise 1ms response time on a VA pannel too

shadow minnow
#

It’s hard with response times

#

You can have 1ms probably even on VA

#

But amount of ghosting

#

With that

#

Is why you don’t want it

stark bobcat
#

well I think they also do funky stuff with ambient temps to achieve that or so I have heard.

I just think it's quite dishonest

shadow minnow
#

Yeah 1ms tends to be

stark bobcat
#

From what I have seen tho msi has made some good gaming monitors lately

shadow minnow

Even on IPS

#

1 ms tends to be only with ton of ghosting

astral haven
shadow minnow
#

Father had one and at least the one he had didn’t work so well

astral haven
shadow minnow
#

That’s quite nice

#

But most monitors advertised to 1ms can have over 100sth ghosting

#

I think hardware unbox showed this great

#

Has videos that show exactly this for each profile

#

Ghosting and ms response

#

Also nice thing on spectrum is that you have like 32 levels of boost of the speed, so you can balance it out to be fast but just so you don’t see ghosting

#

Instead of usual 3 levels

#

Or 5

stark bobcat
#

bru

astral haven
stark bobcat

imagine being hardware unboxed and seeing you have to test 32 modes

shadow minnow
shadow minnow

And a tcon is superior to that

shadow minnow
#

But it’s nice option for the customer

shadow minnow
stark bobcat
#

idk what the point is if the customer doesn't know how the affect the imagine anyway

ashen spindle
#

no for the consumer there should just be variable overdrive so you dont need to touch it

stark bobcat
#

the steps are so granular you will be hard-pressed to tell the difference

shadow minnow
#

The ghosting can be very visible

#

And you can adjust it till it’s just not

stark bobcat
#

can

shadow minnow
#

Variable override very unfortunately isn’t there but even with it it’s just nice

#

Btw the 32 steps is just option

#

You can use one of 3 normal presets as on any other monitor too

#

So just having the option of you know how it works is nicer than not having it

stark bobcat
#

honestly I'd just rather have a single one that is just good

shadow minnow
#

Well yeah but you can’t rely on companies for that

ashen spindle
#

imo having variable overdrive so you can set it to that >>>>>> having 32 steps

shadow minnow
#

It also may differ for each single panel

ashen spindle
#

seems like a bad allocation for development

shadow minnow
#

It didn’t require lot of development

#

Variable overdrive just isn’t supported on the mcu monitor used unfortunately

stark bobcat
shadow minnow
#

I think? If I remember correctly

shadow minnow
# stark bobcat how do u know

It’s not a complicated setting, probably every company has the steps and they just let user chose 3 instead of giving them full range

stark bobcat
#

don't they have trouble getting the products people ordered to them or sum shi

shadow minnow
#

They do but that’s another thing dogekek

stark bobcat
#

wouldn't spend that much money for 144hz anyway

astral haven
#

I have a 2016 tn panel from Asus that has perfect variable overdrive and is super fast, no user choice and it still wrecks most modern displays...

shadow minnow
#

By quite a lot actually

#

But well I got it for a really good deal since I was testing prototype so for me was definitely worth it

stark bobcat

there are no issues with the prototype?

It's fast enough for basically any media

#

I store movies and music on mine

shadow minnow
#

Not fast enough for raw 8k videos dogekek

astral haven
#

It actually is

cursive summit
#

The problem with this speed is

#

It's always the PC that just throttles it

#

My USB stick can "do" 150MB/s, apparently

#

It's never in effect more than 10

astral haven
#

Burst

cursive summit
#

And to be fair 10 is still good

astral haven
#

HDDs don't generally have burst write limits

#

USB flash drives often are using emmc style flash and that stuff often has a burst limit

#

I own a flash drive that does 400MB/s for the entire drive

#

But they are omega expensive

shadow minnow
astral haven
#

470mbps
230 for light

#

100MB/a = 800mbps

#

Oh NVM they are at 1700 with dci 8k

shadow minnow
#

Raw is 2600

#

And r5c may be double that since 60fps

astral haven
#

Uncompressed

#

Shooting uncompressed raw has zero use, compressed raw is bit perfect

final flame
#

damn

final flame
#

this is going to take awhile

wheat plume
#

Wait....the Deck has 16gb ram yet only 1.2GB is given to the GPU ????
That doesn't seem right?

fading wing
#

APU's dynamically allocate Ram when needed.

astral haven
cursive summit
#

Must be a new thing cause my AMD A4 always stole 2.5GBs

astral haven
#

It can go up to 8gb if nescessary

cursive summit
#

Off of my 4GB system

astral haven
#

That sounds wrong

cursive summit
#

Such is reality

astral haven
#

A certain amount is preallocated by that only goes in powers of 2

#

It's probably something like 128mb on the deck

cursive summit
#

Maybe I am mistaken

#

It was this piece of shit

#

Radeon HD 7480D

#

Must have been 1.5GB's it must have sucked

pale sigil
#

My domain is costing 22 quid

cursive summit
#

2.5 available

#

Sounds about right

astral haven
cursive summit
#

Couldn't be

#

Cause that's how much it always stole from system memory

#

This is ancient tech lul

astral haven
#

Don't look at the remaining system memory
There are other things that steal system memory

#

Look at the vram that is reported by software

cursive summit
#

Tf do I remember

#

I do recall it reporting 1.5GBs

#

I know that for a fact cause Warframe would start to hog every time it would exceed 2GB's of RAM usage

astral haven
#

Could have been 1gb igpu reserved, 512mb bios reserved?

cursive summit
#

Could have

#

I don't think AM3+ sucked up 512mb though

astral haven
#

The board is set to suck up whatever it is set to

cursive summit
#

Now I do remember

#

I upgraded system memory from 4 to 8Gbs

#

And he stole additional 1GB

#

It was like 5.5GB usable from 8

slow garnet
#

Fair warning: those things are loud as fuck. But they're good.

reef patrol
#

Make sure it's CMR if you expect to write to it often and a lot.

slow garnet
#

It's CMR AFAIK.

final flame
#

yea the blacks are cmr

slow garnet
#

The only non CMR version of the WD Black series is the 2.5" 1TB one.

reef patrol
#

I would hope so - But at this point I don't take anything for given unless it's specifically spelled out πŸ˜„

final flame
#

this is from tomshardware

slow garnet
#

True, true...

final flame
#

honestly I'd hope the blacks seeing them as a performance drive they should be cmr regardless

#

alr thanks

slow garnet
#

Just realised that's old documentation, shit.

#

This is the correct one, my bad.

#

Right under model number, it says recording technology.

final flame
#

model # is right

slow garnet
#

There's also a couple different websites that will tell you if a drive is SMR or not, but I don't know how accurate, reliable, or up to date those are.

final flame
#

πŸ‘
going to be using mostly for archive storage and games

slow garnet
#

Also 5 year warranty. So if you get a shit one, you can replace it (if warranty isn't shot, depends on where you get the drive).

#

Not a shill btw lul, just genuinely had good experiences with WD Blacks so far

final flame
#

yea amazon has a lot of reviews for bad warranties, going to look around a bit before the final purchase

slow garnet
#

Yeah, that's what I was referring to. I think Amazon will take it back though even if the warranty is shot if the product is defective, but never needed to do so yet.

final flame
#

btw the drive that started to fail is the cheap 2tb seagate one

#

the most popular drive people use

slow garnet
#

popular != good, but anyhow, one word of advice for the new drive: if you're using it for archival and games, if it's more for the former, you might wanna consider keeping them on 24/7 to increase lifespan somewhat.
