Everyone laughs at it
Though, it was pretty good
I kinda liked the idea of HDD cache addons
But that should have come in like, 2008
I feel like you are kinda missing what optane is
that is one small part of it and imo the least useful
It was a poor attempt at giving HDDs a last lease of life on the consumer market.
The one that stood out to me the most was the HDD accelerator
The idea was novel
But it came out like years late
nonono that is the tiny part they made first, not the relevant part
Too bad - It's what people remember, cause it's what Intel marketed hard and eventually had to get mobo manufacturers to include for free to get rid of stock š
Nope
doesnt matter, most optane stuff is not consumer grade so doesnt matter what people remember
Adding fast cache to make them faster is still, to some, relevant
thats not the reason they are shutting it down
What are you doubting
server products dont care what you remember about them or not
What monitor do you have?
rest of the light in the room, distance, brightness, content, doubt you just are watching youtube on it and get it
True might be glare from another light source?
It happens without another light source on
And distance isnāt too different from a laptop
Brightness is lower or same than usual for me
Only thing thatās different rn is my fps mostly being lower
Icons and text too small maybe, or maybe you need glasses
And the screen
that could mean its too dark especially if you have it dark behind the screen so its harder contrast for the eyes
and yes low refresh rate doesnt help
Well maybe itās somehow that since the monitor is running at variable goes lower than my other devices usually do but still idk
what cpu/ram config should I aim for
that is the question
no the first question is how urgent is it
mostly gaming, maybe some audio work
I mean yeah I'd always suggest waiting like 3 months
since new generation is coming soon
Raptor seems really good
I would suggest getting some 400gbps ram
been kinda used to going intel on every new platform
but last time I did was early 2010s
if you can wait like 2-3 months I would say do that, both amd and intel will have new stuff then
But I wonder about the fps because I donāt recall getting so much eye strain with some other game that runs way higher
amd will have a new platform so it would be something you can then upgrade in years to come without changing ram or board
Intel may have new platform but they do that about every generation
Okay every other
am going for mobo/cpu+cooler/ram this time around
if am gonna wait til next gen I may as well try and fit ddr5 on that budget
well prices are coming down so its not going to cost much more than ddr4 would
Steam Link speakers.
i no haz steam link
It's built into steam
never seen these before in my sound settings...
is it cause im sharing my library with family share?
@fickle ore enjoy the legacy hardware while you can š
Sad
is that in a steam deck or somethin
literally my desktop
hmm, yeah, I think Deck has it built in
cause it has really good game streaming
Itās sth with the share app, idk how is it called but I have the same on MacBook
Itās when you share to another device
So you like play on your mac a game that windows is running
So windows sends audio info to steam
Steam sends it over to the MacBook
ooh, so its a virtual output?
Yes
I think so
looks like steams virtual audio i/o yea
how tf i open the legacy sound panel to disable these
Legacy? Why?
cause you cant do this in the modern settings
you can
Yes you can.
??
!
where???
In... the new sound control panel
?
idk its like as much non-hidden as it gets
Now click one of them.
Left not right click
Don't Allow
that doesnt disable, they still show up in the output choose
is still there
No it's not? That's the mic
disabling them removes them as options in the list of audio devices you get clicking the speaker bottom right in the taskbar
You showed us a speaker.
yeh my bad
I still have to bring up this old thing tho, don't know where to find the one you're using
We're on Win11
you dont in win10, win11 idk because I havent used that
I always forget how to access this one Windows 11
its really hard to find
tbh win10 is a fuckin mess of old and new settings pages and options
You search sounds in the start menu and it pops right up
Itās weird ngl
tho am sorta used to navigating that mess by this point
Most things have new UI yet some still look so old
Change system sounds
oh
But it is in the new options now
yeah its like they've put shiny new surface buttons and menus on top of the stuff that's been carried over since like windows xp
Nah it is pretty different now
seems like they've overhauled the older bits as well with 11
I despite the right click menus in 11
the ones from windows 10 are still there if you click "Show More Options" and they all have this really thin ass blue highlight
the 11 menus are not the worst though
just lacking options
Yea it has all the useful stuff accessible in one click and has the old menu available with another click
Ive seen people in videos not realise that the Properties option is in the menu cause they expect it to the last option so they go to the other menu and click on it there instead
Yep
I wish Android had unskippable ads for everytime you open an app
Ngl the icons look cool
yeh :D
I want them all to be themed
they adjust to the accent color automatically whenever it changes
but only Google apps for now ;-;
This aged like milk
https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2017/12/google-bans-android-developers-from-adding-lock-screen-ads/
It was inevitable
Except it's the carriers now
Insert Thanos meme about ads
new improved advertisements version 2.0
if their device even lets them that is
Yes
This is so they can do it themselves
Amount of people switching to iOS
A blight upon this pure world
What does blight mean?
Well since some people already use iOS how is it s pure world?
Thanks, sorry for not googling myself I am just almost asleep rn
personally I'd rather switch to a custom rom than switching to ios
The world already has evil, everything balances out
iOS is just making the world worse
Not cause it's bad, but cause it literally makes you involved in the Apple ecosystem
If iOS was just like android, where anybody can make a phone that runs iOS, that'd be fine
Well I am fully in the ecosystem nothing left to lose
and that's not better
I hate Apple for the monopoly
On their own software
ios is far too locked down for me to even use, And many of the apps I use only exist on android
I'd be shooting myself in the foot if I did switch
I don't mind using android in itself but I hate everything google in it
Hmm weird ngl I never found an app I needed that wouldnāt be for iOS
poweramp
good luck finding a good local audio player on ios
not to mention having to convert your entire flac library to alac if you want it to be lossless
ffs
tbh if I really wanted music on the go a lot I'd actually consider going back to a dedicated media player
I donāt have a library of flac music.
Adding songs is annoying on iOS at least but on macOS they can be rather easily added to Apple Music and then you have them on iOS too and Apple Music is nice imo, but idk if it can be done just through iOS never tried much with local music tbh
If I wanted to listen to a few of my favorite artists, Local files are the only option
I hate so much how Spotify doesnāt let you see song or artists play count
Like why not
Donāt get it
What?
spotify client has always been a logical disaster imo
Itās like apple making the apple monitor cable non removable
Just makes no sense to me
Even outside couldnāt find a free app that can do it
I mean how many times you listened to the song
Oh
Where
Oh, like how many times YOU listened to a song?
I don't think that's a statistic virtually anybody cares for
𤷠they don't want to show you a number that precise because then that would show artists how to game listens
Same as YouTube watches
Thatās false
Depends on the person
Many people use stuff like last fm and such to see but itās only since you install it
They send you a list at the end of the year sorted by listen count
And also itās nice to see for me, idk why just want it and look at it time to time
And they show you the counts for your top 10
Yeah thatās nice but itās just yearly stuff
And you canāt access it afterwise
If you forget to take a screenshot rip
There are 3rd party services that do it and that pisses me off tbh
I am also annoyed that 3rd party services that say they would show you all time listens all want money
It is very rude

Intel Arc Alchemist desktop roadmaps have been leaked, the company has already missed their launch target Over the past few weeks Intel has been busy with their Arc press tour. Intelās Tom Petersen and Ryan Shrout have revealed and confirmed two desktop GPU models: A750 and A770, including their Limited Edition designs that should become [ā¦]
It's MLID but seems credible
Arc Alchemist is quite literally waste of space and silicon
Too late, too little
i think its a decent starting point. but everything else i agree
They'll launch alchemist when next gen is already out and then what, what can Intel offer that NV or AMD won't do better
Battlemage will prolly also launch in time for next gen launch, and be dead on arrival
Wait what?
This makes it sound like Google itself is exiting
but isnt google play music still existing as it got succeeded by yt music
Depends entirely on the price
Oh no first gen of GPUs after years canāt compete with flagships of companies who have been for a long time every two years releasing new GPUs š±
3060?
Cause their new gen is dead simply cause a Nvidia and AMD gen launched
More powerful and cheaper cards that kill Intels offerings
Not to mention Intel are shooting themselves in the foot anyways
depends on their price
Well no one should expect their first gen to be competing with high end
That remains to be seen. It's not like Intel aimed for high end.
They are not even mid end
And rebranded rx cards for years and had almost no competition to nvidia but over time they improved
They are mid end
Intel I bet won't even scratch the low end cards in certain applications
Lads did you hear what they are saying
Just because in places like this people get expensive high end GPUs doesnāt mean that for normal people thatās not mid end
Place your bets.
they can compete in dx12
"We are focusing on tier 1 applications and have preliminary support in tier 2, everything below tier 3 will work badly"
Tier 1 being "popular" stuff
We already saw Arc's perf in tier 3 apps
It's abysmal
Loses in perf to a 6 year old GPU
They need to fix their drivers first before they launch their cards
Itās their first gen so I still donāt see how does that matter
Also their drivers improved
Yes because itās first gen
Canāt expect it to be so good
But thatās to be expected
So why am I supposed to care for Intel then
That's the whole point, it's dead on arrival
Who says you are supposed to care
You may not care this time
But there will probably be new gens
What
Which will slowly be more worth caring about
First gen isnāt for people like you
Doesnāt mean itās for no one if itās cheap
And I bet Battlemage won't be much better either
Intel needs to fix up their drivers and make sure than Battlemage or at the very least the C series is good
And for the love of god Intel don't compare your shit to 3000 series when you are launching your stuff right after 4000 series comes out
Based on iGPU drivers their drivers have already improved in some ways. Especially quite big bugs are now fixed
Our cards run at 80% of these unreleased, mythical cards called the 4000 series
How should they compare to GPUs they donāt know anything about yet?
They have no way to know the price
Nor the performance
We kill the batman?
I think Intel will be fine
So... not an ACTUAL argument. Coo'
Their marketing is doing bits
Some peeps might buy them
But man as a product, it's not good
Nooo I missclicked instead of emote
And my message is gone
Thanks discord
Anyways the Intel GPUs will probably get beaten by first gen apple silicone. Still itās first gen, so well, canāt expect first gen to be too good unless itās from apple

Honestly I think intels hardware is good the problem are the drivers which makes it workable
The hardware genuinely seems alright
A bit slow
But alright for budget end
Drivers though, oh not the drivers
Drivers just take a little time to get there
Maybe itās because I am from Slovakia but I would call what most call budget end mid end or low high end
The cards are fine for the people buying 3060s anyway...
Which is almost high end if not
I remember when I had a amd r7 270x or sum shit those drivers were asss
And amd is still doing fine for gpus even tho their drivers sucked for years
In my lands Xbox series X and ps 5 are considered high end hardware
It's kinda hard since what used to be midrange pricepoints now gets you a 3060
I'd argue AMD fixed their drivers... this generation
One tier lower
AMD drivers were scuffed before RX 6000
I still hate my RX 5000 for stability
I don't know how RX 400 and 500 did though
My last dedicated amd gpu was a 7950 and the drivers were perfectly fine.
Polaris is when I'd argue their drivers were passable for the first time
Here on average you would be rather lucky to get 6900xt with one months income if you didnāt pay for rent or buy any food basically
Now I am on linux dealing with the joy that is nvidia drivers
Mate we live in nearly the same country
Well according to our resellers
These are top graphics cards right now
Fancy seein 6800XT there
Ass prices
In shops here in Denmark - physical ones, you can see 3070s going for what I paid for my 3080 at the height of the card shortage.
The 6700xt pulse there is 20⬠more than in germany
Lol here rx 6600 and 3060 are considered top end
I don't think you understand how top end works
By their position in the product stack no
HernĆ Å”piÄka
Rtx xx60 is midrange
For some
Yeah 6600 and xx60 is midrange
But not all countries are rich
That is LITERALLY not how it works
It's midrange cause it's literally midrange
Doesn't matter what country
Tell that to czc
If you can't afford higher end cards it doesn't make lower end cards any higher
They call rx 6400 higher end
Sounds like scamming
Rx 550 mid end
I'd call that barely even a product worth spitting at
Funnily enough itās also the cheapest GPU they have
Well it costs 200$ thatās still a bit
That it's even called gtx makes me sad
Mid end
And it's a bad buy at that price rx580 was under 200
1630 is literally no-end
Cause it doesn't qualify for any of the respectable tiers
And it works worse than a GTX 1050Ti
You can get Xbox series s for that
That I bought 3 years ago for.. 180$
Brand new card... more expensive than a 1050Ti.. that works worse.. 3 years later..
Actually scratch that, 5 years
I got that 1050Ti in 2017
Well itās probably better than my iGPU
I could have bought a 1050ti for 130⬠new and I considered that a bad price for such a shit card
Funniest thing to me tbh is people calling keyboards up to 200⬠mid end
Keyboards are not tierable
Like most people have a keyboard for 20⬠even people who play games
What is the criteria for keyboard tiers
Popularity?
You can't tier keebs, doesn't work like that
No someone just classed it by price
Keyboard don't make much of a functional difference GPUs do
U got me
Idk man
I watched a Wooting review a long time ago
Was like "That's fancy, I want one"
Bought the keeb
Unpacked it
Was like "So how does this analog work"
Couldn't bother
Never used it once
2 years later, love the keeb
Lmfao
Never used analog
Tbf I also havenāt used analog almost ever on my Lekker but thatās partially because on iGPU I can play barely anything and weāll canāt be bothered setting up profiles
Though I tried setting it up for war thunder once
Still gotta set up my analogue for rocket league I just don't know how to do w being accelerate and left stick forward
Only got it yesterday tho
Look on the Wootabase for profiles.
Is it just me or does adding dot on the end of the sentence when you are responding to a question make the response sound kinda mean
No ofense to mansen just in general
What with?
You shall not talk rudely to the duck
No it means I take pride in writing at least somewhat correct english with sentence stops and grammar.
I really didnāt mean it towards duck just reminded me that when writing myself the dot soemtiems made me feel as if it sounded mean by well, I suppose using such official grammar or idk.

Also the 60he stock sounds so nice tho couldn't help but play osu the entire time yesterday
Not the first time windows update messed with printers
And not the last time
printers are the work of the devil
š
For a brief change of job i had to sell the damn things and help customers get them working.
Can confirm printers can be a pain
they are the best proof god doesnt exist because if a god exists and allows humans to make printers it can only be satan in disguise
Printer manufacturers are the devil.
Cause they try and pull every last dirty trick in the book, and the EU's always playing catch up. Once the printer is sold, the EU can't UNFUCK it.
Exactly
Firmware that blocks third party cartridges? Sorry - HP and friends won't let you send in the printer for service, cause you used third party cartridges and that fucked up the printer (prove it didn't - they fucking dare you)
I remember needing to lie to Brother on the regular to get them to accept warranty RMA on the cheap ass printers we sold, that would break at the drop of a hat within a year of sale. Just because the customer may have once used a "counterfeit cartridge" and "messed up the printer"
Ah yes - Brother clearly employs psychic support staff that can literally see the printer's internals over the phone.
all the other ones suck too
Now at least there's less ink price gauging with the SuperTank style of printers, since no cartridge.
if I ever use another printer it will not be my own
Which company got the lawsuit for locking the scanner behind the need for ink?
If you're just printing B&W a cheap laser printer is the way to go.
But colour ones... jesus fuck those can be a nightmare. We had an expensive HP one in the store that we used for both customer receipts and contracts and in store ads (cut to size and put into holders with product photos in full colour)
I swear by the time I left we had 3 or 4 of that printer in the back that had clogged up from the OFFICIAL powder, which cost as much as the printer itself.
As far as printers go, moving to linux has tought me they are actually more reliable than they are made out to be. At least on the software side.
Just Windows printer drivers are absolutely terrible.
Especially network printing
absolutely.
especially in earlier years of windows it was worse.
few days ago I had people argue with me here that linux was dog shit when it came to printers lol
pretty sure thats just the way it is no matter the OS
but windows is def the worst in that department
Ive never had issues with printers using Ubuntu or Fedora
Arch did have issues though
Solus also did not have any issues :D
oh great...
Microsoft are making laptops that cannot boot other OSs

Hello! I want to start streaming with my TWO HE analog layout, as I press down my keys
whether they want to or not
how could i do that?
analog layout, to let them see how hard I press
saw it on youtube by some guy
you can get visual representation of keytravel in wootility under gamepad response > gamepad tester
or toggle "touch" rgb mode under colour and point a camera at your F key row
There is an app for this.
I forgot the name.
There we go. For OBS
I need to stop being lazy with my keyboard and amp up the usage of analog keyboard but I'm currently focused on ym steam deck @_@
This is the one you see in the press material i believe
DarrenVS
Has to be a coincidence
Surely the odds of this person being here are minimal
Why?
Yeah, literally impossible
Like meeting a random person from facebook on the street
Wouldn't you expect most of the people deving for wooting boards to be here?
Carmonben, you really are susceptible to baiting
It's not due to the pluton chip, it's due to microsoft deciding the third party key should no longer be enabled by default.
It has been relatively quiet as it's just one lenovo laptop and lenovo just said it was a requirement from microsoft.
But no word from microsoft directly, so who knows what the future holds.
.-.
As it stands it's a simple bios toggle but it does put things on a dangerous slippery slope
yeh :/
Omg⦠a 6900xt is going for $700 right now⦠I paid more than double earlier this yearā¦
can I use this for streamlabs too?
Random statement but my wallet and I are crying
isn't streamlabs basically modified OBS? I don't know, it's a real question, I thought everything that works on OBS would work on streamlabs?
ok, seems like for VST plugins OBS supports it Streamlabs doesn't. So it might not
I mean, they are not exactly the same it seems
Wasn't Streamlabs also in trouble at one point by being named as "Streamlabs OBS"?
There was some controversy, remember EposVox was talking about it.
Yep
They were using the OBS open source project, and selling it using the OBS name which they did not have permission to use
They made up eventually.
made up or made out
Wow itās genuinely almost double the fps thanks

Hello! We're excited to announce that we're going to be able to fulfill demand sooner than we had estimated for everyone in the reservation queue. Many of the supply chain shortfalls that affect Steam Deck are gradually clearing up, and we're continuing to ramp production, so we're able to produce more Decks faster than ever before. As of today ...
A lot of people who were Q4 went to Q3
Interesting
Interesting to think I was one of the first to actually click on the preorder link, but never bought the thing
Seems alright but not something most would need
same
Grats
it seems i will get the deck with the 60 together
all i'm missing is a suitable mouse
if your looking to complete the endgame setup, consider the finalmouse or the zaunkoenig m2k
Wait so, when do you pay for your Deck?
Is it like in the same quarter, or as it's your turn to get it?
when it's ready to ship, you get payment confirmation that needs to be filled within three days of receiving it
You pay that 5 buck up front fee and when it's your turn you either pay and get an actual order or relinquish your reservation and the next one in queue gets to decide.
Alright sunshines, makes sense
yup yup. paid for the que a year ago and didn't pay for the machine until it was ready not too long ago
Does Musk still count as richest?

Anything more than that, depends on the ruling
yes he can
I suppose if he proves that Twitter broke the agreement first, he might get it annulled
yes thats his card
It's a fustercluck, we'll see what happens
I tried to make my monitors aligned like IRL cause the left one is higher up
so I kept dragging the right one in the GUI downwards and it didnt work
finally realised I need to move the left one upwards
I personally wouldn't do that, as now when you move your mouse to the right from the top of your left monitor it won't go to your right one and vise versa for the bottom of your right monitor.
I'm so hype I just ordered mine yesterday!
lol
Hey hey~ It's been a while, but wanted to drop by and ask for some thoughts - as I was a wooting founder, but haven't used it in years and am catching up with wooting as my interest has been revitalized in recent months.
I made sure to scan through some past conversations in the discord first, and found a few interesting messages regarding high polling / scanrates, specifically when it comes to keyboards.
#archived_wooting_60he message
This one in particular I mostly agree with the sentiment, and wanted to add onto it.
Wanted to say in general first though, for those not actively playing a variety of games at 2000/4000/8000hz mouse rates, the support for those rates have drastically improved in recent time. (past 9-3 months) where 2000hz near universally works, and many games are no longer having issues with 8000hz, as the industry is moving forward and kinda forcing developers hands in competitive gaming.
Personally I think as a blanket statement, for now, relatively, 8000hz is overkill - but I am starting to believe in the first step of 2000hz, as we get to higher and higher monitor refresh rates - especially 360, 390/480, and soon 500hz, it'll be especially important for mice to stay well above anywhere near monitor refresh, where blurbusters is making the assertion that mouse polling should be 5x higher than monitor refresh.
... But now I am thinking 2000hz is relevant for keyboards, too - but not for typical keyboards, but for wooting specifically.
The reason I am wondering about this is since wooting, as we all obviously know - isn't just a "has the key been pressed since last polled" - there's variability in key presses, there's letting go of pressing, there's incredibly minute inputs that can be done and at various speeds and depths - where my personal thoughts are that it feels obvious that we should be talking about higher polling (like 2K, not 8K....) in the context that wooting is specifically the type of keyboards we should be talking about in the context of potential improvements in higher polling rates, not for "latency" but for accuracy and fluidity.
I think the main reason I write all this to ensure my point isn't missed, is because I didn't find any of the past conversations (though I could have easily missed them) talking about keyboard polling rates in the context of wooting-specific technology, which kinda caught me off guard, tbh - so here's hopefully this sparks something.
Any thoughts on that? Should 2000hz be in mind for future implementations? Is higher fluidity relevant to analog input?
The wooting 60he has a scanrate only barely faster than 1ms nd the other boards are over 1ms scanrate
Polling rate faster than that wouldn't do anything at all
And there is a huuuuge difference between mice and keyboards
A keyboard is highly unlikely to hit it's polling rate limit where a mouse is nearly guaranteed to
Again, I'm referring to fluidity of updates regarding variable inputs - not just latency to register a key press, which I would agree has relatively no difference at all.
Ok?
That addresses neither of my points...
For specific types of inputs, the types Wooting is known for / specialize in, it's far more relevant to at least discuss the implication.
Again, I agree, for typical key presses in most cases, 1000hz is plenty
Remember joystick input is absolute not relative
The computer (game) calculates the relative motion

Have you ever used a resampling program to upsample your mouse input?
I have not, no
If you have a drawing tablet, try it out on that
Then switch between absolute and relative mode in both cases
Relative mouse input when upsampled is horrific and adds acceleration
Absolute input upsampled just makes things smoother
There is inherently no acceleration, and the latency addition is not noticeable
@latent mural the art style of this character is very familiar
Uguubear is the emote artist~ She's done the emotes for hundreds of the biggest streamers on twitch, so that's likely why. :>
What about your discord user banner?
I also imagine the future ARM models might be able to do >1khz and if it works that would probably be one of the features it has once parity with avr models is not given anymore, though as was pointed out that would most likely be more marketing to have same numbers as other vendors without really doing much
I know an artist that draws extremely like that
That's what I was thinking, too.
Between ARM making it far more feasible, and the benefits of the marketing - assuming not an overwhelming amount of trade-offs of development costs.
well for now parity is guaranteed till 2024
so I imagine in the time between finishing the firmware and then they will have ample time to poke at what they can get out of it since I bet people will constantly ask about it lol
Yep
Just hope for more features rather than speed myself
The web wootility is super awesome and definetly my favorite feature
Is cute cute
since you also dont aim with your keyboard like you would on a controller that probably also contributes to not feeling the difference as much as on a >1khz mouse where as you said blubusters has nice infos about why it's great
Yeahhhh, I feel bad asking given I know people are always in here and, well, everywhere... regarding 8000hz, but hopefully we can see some improvements as a whole to overall polling frequencies.
I was diving down a few rabbit holes today, this one in particular has been interesting
https://forums.blurbusters.com/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=7739#p59636
Just remember mice != Keyboards
Sorry, I forgot for a sec there
well, the more people ask about it the more it shows the team something is wanted so asking for the same over and over again isn't a bad thing
Thanks for the reminder
so for now I would say check back after the arm batch is done and working since I dont think before that they will have time to poke at new shiny stuff but rather have to make it work and catch up on other planned stuff
or just leave some text in #archived_feed_us_back and they'll see it
Sounds good, I'll keep tabs on things
Appreciate the convo~
For those also interested in the 8Khz rabbit hole, another post of interest~

lol
we can find some fraken devices though
a trackpad is not a mouse either
close enough
if we attache a mouse nib and track ball

AMDās market value surpassed Intelās #News #AMD #Intel https://t.co/rXC4MTM4Af
People bought a lot of personal computers during covid, and with bitcoin crashing the market is filling up with a lot of used items for cheap.
Personal computers will hang around for a lot longer yet, at most we might see a transition to a different architecture like ARM if x86 can't keep up
amd already surpassed intels market cap last year when the stock was higher
and intel is on a track to lose out short term and gain much more later on if it works, amd is currently winning despite still being a much smaller company
so the stock prices mean nothing between them
and arm is not going to replace consumer hardware anytime soon
BUT APPLE SILICON
apples uses arm because they cant use x86
Well because x86 Intel chips run super hot
no because they literally arent allowed to use x86 since they dont have a license
In a laptop, don't want to burn the battery power as heat if you can avoid it
Ah right, to be fair only 3 companies on the planet do
ARM is a good architecture though, x86 is very complicated and hard to optimise
intel chips running hot is not because of the uArch
A (relatively) small chip team would struggle with a CISC setup
apples chip team is/was by no means small
Compared to Intel or AMD though
I imagine we're talking at least a tenth of the size right?
Yeah absolutely, ARM (and even RISC-V) are not really RISC in the old sense
But they're certainly dramatically simpler than x86
I mean it's a moot point to argue since they could have the entire intel team and still weren't able to make an x86 chip
I'm not sure why they'd want to anyway though?
Given their very long history with ARM
which again, is in big part due to them only being able to use something like arm or riscv
but they had people like jim keller on the team who's known for doing big work in x86
Earlier on, they were buying ARM chips from other companies. Could have also bought x86 ones
The iPhone was originally going to be x86 iirc
But the unit economics didn't work out
yeah and intel missed out on a massive market because iirc they didn't expect the market to grow so much so they didn't go as customized as they could for the chips option
efficient lower power x86 chips exist, but if you compare 5nm M1 with a full all around 12900k on a 10nm node with stuff like avx512 and all that arm doesnt use, of course the latter one runs much hotter
Day to day practical applications (which the AS chips are designed around) overwhelmingly do not use AVX512 etc
yes so a custom x86 chip could just not have those features, having x86 doesnt enforce you have to add that
But then to be fair, the surface area of AS chips are overwhelmingly not the CPU
Yeah but it's not like that's the issue
If it's barely ever used, it's not the cause of the power issues
it's not always used but takes up die space, it's just one example for stuff they have that is not needed and could have been cut if you want to make an equal chip
but the node is the much bigger difference
I guess the key thing either way, is that there is no x86 chip with the practical performance & battery life balance of the M1/M2
Whether there could be really doesn't matter
If you want to buy something today, it is what it is
Seems that the Zenbook S13 OLED (Ryzen 6800U) is a good competitor for the M2 Macbook Air:
https://t.co/Sn2tTujlc0
For the same price you get 2x larger SSD + 2x RAM. Similar CPU/GPU perf, battery life and weight. And it has a great OLED screen...
102
yes what the consumer can get is not the same as what the architecture can do
Those are impressive battery life numbers, must admit I'm skeptical
if apple spends extra billions to get a a node a year earlier and thus have the same performance earlier, thats not because of the architecture
Where the M1 etc does really well is then with eg the media encoding etc, so good for people doing video editing etc
I write code all day so it's pretty lightweight use regardless
I wonder how big the batteries are on those machines
yes its great in a lot of things, but it's not an indicator that x86 cant do it
Buying an Apple laptop is like buying a console. It's great until you want to do something it isn't specifically made for. š
Give me a well rounded x86 system any day
To be fair, they are excellent for almost everything. The one major downfall is gaming, of course
Or I guess very old stuff, doesn't perform as well on Rosetta 2
those amd chips are still a node behind what M1/2 are on so even if those tests are not fully accurate, that should show x86/arm is not the reason
Well gaming - And using any kind of x86 app. It's always a gamble with their Rosetta stuff
But to be fair, a traditional machine can't run ARM stuff at all
On the server/cloud side, it's rapidly moving to ARM
Quite nice to be able to match arch when developing
Just give us the co-processor back.
Lemme socket in an ARM cpu on my high end desktop board and set up a new standard. š
I guess the issue is if you have to run really old software
Anything actively maintained, it should be really easy to just run it natively on another arch
also the IPC of the M2 regressed compared to M1 lol
of the cpu, the gpu did get a bit faster
How does it do on single core peak etc?
That seemed to be the key thing which made M1 do so well
oh it does do better than m1 and I forgot the numbers but I noticed it during the m2 release key note, they need like 30% more clocks for 15% more performance or something like that, so IPC was worse
I always find it funny on the die shots, how little of the chip is actually CPU
It makes sense, just not what you might imagine
AMD Radeon RX 7900 rumors: 20 Gbps memory, November launch According to Greymon, Radeon RX 7900 series will feature faster memory than previously reported. Only 20
Not 24
As long as it's enough for competing with Nvidia, it's fine to leave space for a later refresh
AMD is going to be relying on the infinity cache to make up the difference. It worked fairly well with last generation, and so I imagine this coming generation will have likely have an even better cache. IRC they are going to be using chiplets so I imagine cache should be even BIGGER
I do believe firmly AMD is still waiting for RTX 4000 preliminary results
They might just tweak some things in the launch drivers to make up any perf difference
Isn't that what happened with 6700XT and why it was initially shit or something
RTX 4080, TSE >15000,
RTX 4070, TSE ~10000.
These scores are based on specs I mentioned before.
Honestly, it's not quite sure yet except RTX 4090. Well, I don't care.
315
That's a really good score on the 4080
I am guessing those scores are world leaders in overclocking cards with LN2?
That'd be the hall of fame, so highest scores
I would assume that's the score they are talking about
TSE 10K for 4070 is rather weak though
What AMD and Nvidia were doing this generation, kinda, and it's prolly only going to get worse
Is widening the gap between xx70 and lower cards and xx80
They ask for a substantial premium but also get you really good perf when it comes to xx80 cards
If an in production (presumably air cooled) 4080 can defeat a LN2 cooled 3090 Ti boosted to it's absolute physical limit then that's dare I say poggers
Though the 4070's low score although better then the 3070 probably is a real bummer
I mean 4080 beating out 3090Ti is a given
The question is, at what cost
Power will prolly be sucked dry out of the socket
Oh shit WCCFTech got a site redesign
Looking kinda good
I just bought a 6700xt idk if it s the right choice but the euro is kinda ass rn
and I don't earn any money yet
Idk I'm waiting until next gen launch
To see how economy does and how the market changes
I HOPE the 4070 is substantially cheaper. Doesn't the 4070 use a different chip then the 4090/4080? I imagine the real bottleneck is the memory in all honestly, IRC the 3070 uses regular GDDR6, rather then GDDR6X+SUPREMEULTRA
I have some doubts the power draw is as high as some claim, unless those are going for a really spread out chiplet design current gen has trouble dissipating all the heat it needs to deal with.
I think what's really going to happen is that they are going to tell people to buy bigger power supplies in order to resolve the Overcurrent protection issues the power draw spikes have caused.
well they always start with the high end and I wont buy a high end card ever
Yes 4070 does have a different chip
I just want something that will last me a while
The fuck is anvil
Should be AD104 or what it's called
Why does or look like anthem
what's your current gpu
RX 5700
Good enough
But I'm building a second rig
I need amd
You need meds that's what you need
yeah I am on my second rig rn the 970 still going strong
IRC Anthem had a good idea, it's gameplay is good there just isn't enough of anything
So if someone came around and made Anthem, but with actual content it would probably be a hit
Because fuck Nvidia
And their Linux drivers
I wish I had an igpu, I'd use that over my 3080 for Linux
Wanted to use my deck but valve are morons
is the one usb port impeding you?
Nah, Pleasant asked Valve for a deck, and they instead built a patio
So incompetent
Well, it makes my life more difficult but I meant more steam os
ah ic
I wish the deck wouldn't stop downloads in non desktop mode when going to sleep
Careful you will get sushy and von bon to call you a retard cause "Linux masterrace"
"Linux always works"
one of the few things the switch does better
lmfao
That looks ass
OMFG I know, such a basic features.
Well I would run steam os
Tbf
portrait mode isnt bad
That's not mine but I meant more using the deck on 2 screens as my desktop and having my desktop anywhere I go
Oh I have one landscape and one portrait
i run one of my displays that way cuz I dont have enough desk space for 27' displays
Get a 1:1 screen or a reading screen then
same
I'd prefer to have both landscape but I simply lack the space
If you don't got one of these you ain't shit
https://www.eizo.com/products/flexscan/ev2730q/
FlexScan EV2730Q 26.5" 1920 x 1920 Square Monitor provides more viewing space than a standard wide screen monitor. Scroll less, see more and work better.
You can actually get one, they are in stock and fairly well priced
but idk how well applications would support that
then what do I do with my other secondary monitor
uhmmmmmm
yeah no
Or send it to me
I think I rather not pay 9x the price of my portrait monitor
bruh not buying that if that is the price
Maybe I did lie about the price
Prolly cause it's for businesses
and the panel is not something mass made so not big order quantities
When I worked in business retail, a lot of the shit businesses bought was overpriced, in my eyes, business grade shit
They don't typically buy the typical LG or Samsung gaming panels unless it's a business that's smaller in size
But the big ones always ordered the boring 60Hz displays for like 300$
come to think of it my dad still has quite a few old square monitors in the basement
since he works at a hospital and always got the stuff they replaced for free
very untrue >.>
also just get one of these instead of a 1:1 https://www.lg.com/us/monitors/lg-28mq780-b
it's not 9000 dollars
my bad pressing the key an extra time
aaaaaand idunno if its us exclusive or not
search for it, LG DualUp
I want to get one but I wish it was cheaper.
yeah
for a secondary
BUT : modern 4:3 monitor
with arm mount
if it was 200 cheaper i'd instantly buy it.
You're not half bad
Just need to shut up half the time and stop arguing
Sushy is beyond lost
700 vs 900 euro isnt much of a difference if the other option is 100 or less
My my deck only seems to be getting 20-30mb/s lan transfer from my nas
Disappointed
Actually not that disappointed since mum is currently streaming Plex which even though is using wan still uses up a lot of local bandwidth
Will probably set up a mesh network at one point
MegaBYTES hopefully?
Ye
Wish I could have what Tony has XD
Might just get a usb to ethernet cos why not
I do a lot of transfering from my nas
I want the dock tbh but I'm finding to difficult to buy it (as in justifying) even though it doesn't cost that much
I'm just waiting for the official dock like a good fanboy
I have a universal lenovo dock and a dell thunderbolt at work. But it would be nice to use something that isn't a switch stand to keep it upright
yeah I need one for when I ll go on vacation soon already have a dongle but I just need a stand
i want it.
i wonder if i should start buying parts for my next PC now. All i need is a processor (waiting for it to be released), motherboard (same thing), new case, and ram (ddr5)
do tell
What I hated about ddg is the fact that you aren't getting good results
Like the search is just not good
What
The fuck
The thing is not even out yet
It's good that this is happening though, just shows how useless the site is

- infinity of nice to haves

I really want to know who's running that site
Cause they are either handsomely paid or retarded
And could be, if verified, a good testimony in an anti-monopoly court
the site is made to generate money from google ads thats why it shows up so often in searches
the sooner people stop talking about it the sooner we give them money for free
So many sites like that - I swear if I google something like "How to disable X in Windows/Android" the first page of results are just duplicate SEO sites full of ads saying the exact same, and entirely useless shit.
Yeah
I grabbed a google search blacklist addon just to try and get around the worst of those. It will just outright hide any website I've previously hidden. Huge timesaver.
I have no clue what any of you are talking about
I guess having double adblocker and firefox optimizations makes me immune
adblocker doesnt change google results that arent ad spots
and UB is really often first result when anyone looks for cpu/gpu comparisons unless there is a video on exactly those two options
and for the regular user it appears to be a decent site that has detailed info
Glance at the first 3-4 sites and notice how they're all just copy/pasted bullshit "guides" with no actual answers to what you were expecting. And full of ads.
That it is, and it's annoying
Ahhh that's what you mean
Lifewire, digitaltrends, those kind of websites
Yeah I just found a bypass
"How to do something REDDIT"
Bypasses all the bullshit and gets you straight to the answer

WSJ
Just for discussion
werenta they also caught selling data
DuckDuckGo got caught selling personal information
Any chance to order wooting 60he with paypal??
what is kinda disappointing in that phone is the non-existent water protection
Is that android 13
Oh
They are also above the brightness slider
Guess they really pushed to be different
so easy to reach one handed
I would like sliding on the status bar to regulate brightness
oo yes
That would be good enough at least in my opinion
I had a custom rom that did that
Custom firmwares used to have a lot
I reallllyyyyy wish the volume buttons to change song was a standard android feature
That is easy to add
holding volume up and down while the screen is off skipped and went back a song respectivly
soooo useful for when I am driving
dont have to try to tap a small ass button on the screen
Check out some apps or do you already have that functionality
I dont
there is an app but it needs to run in the background at all times
Yep
looks like any suitcase lol
it looks the very same as mine and the same color xd
that is indeed a suitcase
I like this change..... very nice
any excess notifications are put into a size-adaptable pill shape thingy
in Android 13
That looks a bit weird
I like it
idk, better than seeing them all taking the entire bottom half of the screen
Deeper Network
huh?
I dont like the shape of the top part mostly
the large ones?
And there being two notifications per app shown
Yeah how they are connected
That happens in notifications too when the phone is unlocked but less tall
it goes in real deep thats why its listed as an opportunity
Also the Instagram notifications donāt show anything useful
it does when you expand it
Well yes but should rather show you one notification that has useful info than two useless
TBF, it should remove the "Instagram" on the content cause you already know what app its from at the top
And it should tell you what first not the name

I really like that when I open the pixel buds case near my phone, it tells me what battery level the case is on
My AirPods Pro do the same itās useful ngl

my xm4s have it when you install the app and its pretty good
Yeh it does
