eh i just use cloudflare cause i dont trust onion routing to be the fastest for dns
just curious how annoying it can be, instead of trying myself π
hf trying and pls tell how annoying it is
prob easier to setup cloudflare warp+ vpn tho for dns queries
Check out the Gray Duckie plug: https://bit.ly/3uVVSX5
I've been reviewing tech on YouTube for over a decade now, and a lot has happened since those early days on YouTube. Today I'm sharing the story that few know - here's the story of why I no longer attend Apple keynotes or get access to review devices.
-MORE APPLE VIDEOS-
Apple vs Amazon i...
TLDW: Apple didn't fix issues despite him telling them all the issues and giving them 3 weeks before his reviews went online
Apple called him and scolded him for not giving them a chance to fix the issues before the reviews
were these issues fixable in three weeks time?
so uh, how do you get to 3 weeks if in the video he talks about 5 and then 3 DAYS
Issues such as the lockscreen shortcuts not working
Force touch not working to use app icon shortcuts on the home screen
VPN connection didn't stay connected
Definitely fixable in 3 weeks
But he didn't even get a reply from Apple after sending in the issues
where do the 3 weeks come from
is this a just lana moment again?
Β―_(γ)_/Β―
He said it
quin said he mentiomed 5 and 3 days
That's how long he was waiting for a reply that didn't come
The review was 3 weeks later right?
idk he doesnt say that so if he says 8 days I assume thats the time
apple bad
credit where credit is due... apple OSs are better than linux cause at least i can google an actual working answer and not an answer for some ancient os version with radically different packages and commands
I assume the 3 weeks later means 3 weeks after release?
anyway I dont even want to defend apple, but if its not 3 weeks and we dont know what exactly the issue is aside from "bootloops and other issues" idk if that is fixable in that time
like ill hate on apple but for actual reasons
apple devices are solid
hardware and software wise
personally cant say ive had all too many issues and if there was one an SoC reset via a key combo from their help website fixed it usually
customer phones and my own macbook alike
yes they had 1 os crash when i tried to sign into the store but it also just didnt happen ever again
Yep.
He had no early access or anything. Apple just blacklisted his ass for not being a team player and lying to consumers.
no I get that, that just means the 3 weeks are not 3 weeks where apple didnt fix it, that were the 8 days I assume
not saying apple was right or anything
but its better to accuse with the right facts
Here's a timeline.
Buys phone on release. It has issues.
Buys ANOTHER phone to make sure it isn't a fluke.
Contacts Apple (At this point they still don't have a review out - big website, etc...)
Apple stonewalls them for a week, they keep trying to contact them.
Gives up and releases video.
NOW suddenly Apple wants to talk.
still means the 3 weeks for apple to reply is false
I don't know where that 3 week thing comes from. But Apple is entirely on the hook for ignoring followups for a week, when they know everyone wants to get reviews out.
And then proceeds to blacklist major reviewer because they were the ones who failed to do shit all π
thats where the 3 weeks come from and thats the only point we tried to figure out
but as quin said if u shit on someone shit for the right reasons and not smth false
yea the rest we all agree on
Jeez
2.2.7.1 OpenGL optimizations driver is insane
Only thing I find is that I'm not getting the driver
Hmmm
Ah the driver was hidden as optional, found it
took them long enough, over a month from first release as standalone driver to being part of adrenalin
Alright on RLCraft I get anywhere between 50 to 120 FPS with old driver
Seems to hover about 80
And new driver's up, let's see how good this "+90%" really is
Note I have a 5000 series card, not 6000 and playing at 1440p heavily modded but without any shaders
Oh jezus what the fuck
165 FPS avg
With drops to 140
Strange how i never had to do this
i mean both quintosh and i had to
and its always the same
i wanna compile smth
it requires some gcc version
i cant install it
google it
still cant install it
i just say fuck it and use windows
like how can it be that i already compiled smth with the same headers that are now supposedly missing but they come with gcc which i have and then i later find out its a slightly older or newer version which somehow cant be installed no matter what i try
A bit weird you have all these issues but i dont. Only issue i had was a key ring issue but thay was a quick google search resolution
ya its weird but the issue is that even googling my specific debian version i only get results for other stuff
and then on wsl debian on windows it just works
mingw also so far never complained
also had this on ubuntu once
even used the exact ubuntu version in a vm that a framework i used specified
tried to compile
errors on end
Maybe debian is just junko :P
I didnt play around wity devian for too long honestly.
Like in the case of ubuntu : gnome ui was not for me at the time
in a pure server setting it served me for years continuously without any issues
Aye
but as soon as i try to dev on it theres some small issues that just dont seem to be fixable
Debian servers are different matter
it's not weird that those issues dont appear for everyone because if that was the case linux would actually be unusable, it works well for certain things just quite often not allrounded as windows is since it's obviously extremely fragmented
just a higher chance to find an issue if you dont use the same distro as someone else and they never tested it on that one
Hmmm
or in my case a unity plugin where it took like 2 years to fix a linux specific issue since that was buried somewhere between the step of adding CUDA and the vulkan compilation code and no problem on windows since that just always has all the needed things
Samsung as a supplier when
Also, why buy Pixel 6 if Pixel 7 is coming this year https://www.gsmarena.com/google_pixel_7_7_pro_pixel_tablet_and_foldable_smartphone_camera_sensors_uncovered-news-55200.php
@ashen spindle yet again proving you dont know anything about it pushing this notion it needs unification or some such.
what
I dont say it needs it I say thats how it currently is
This horribly stupid idea of just "they should all just work on one operating system :D " is what you keep spouting and its nonsense
thats not what I'm saying
id already be happy with cutting down on 300tools that all do the exact same but have different command structures
You go on about frsgmentstion and different linux distros and shit wanting it to be like a windows single thing
if every store calls vanilla flavor smth else ud also be pissed
Uh, no, thats not whats happening
no I'm not, I'm saying that is how linux is and that has certain advantages as well as disadvantages and some of them are causing these issues
uh yes thats whats happening
beginning with package managers and ending with the servers where packages come from
like i couldnt give 2 shits for distro count if the toolset would be more condensed
the concrete problem I had was related to a library not existing on the distro I had to use because I could not install certain things so the thing crashed, which was not the case on the distro the dev had it run on so thats why it wasn't caught during developemnt
how are you trying to tell me thats not related to fragmentation of distros
My guess is it may be because the lenses on newer iPhones have quite a few elements so probably makes production a bit more complicated
im not saying the solution is to only have one, I'm merely showing the one issue I had recently was from that. if I find a bloat related issue on windows my suggestion also isn't suddenly to split windows into 50 versions
sure, but thats more in the vertical rather than the horizontal when looking at currently active things
if I dev on win11 I dont care if win7 runs it
i meant more
home, pro, edu not to mention N versions
they come with different things but still offer the same baseline if tools and files
ah yeah true, but for the most part that is limited to windows tools and not extra tools like combability with vulkan drivers or so
ya cause those stay the same
and even the base tools generally work the same since xp
like regedit basically hasnt changed
most commandlets in cmd.exe also remain unchanged
my main issues with searching for help or problems was they always used programs i couldnt install andhor have already
Whats wrong with just... picking what you want and keeping it that way?
and if they were in the repo they required prerequisits that arent there
The package manager doesnt auto include the requirements?
like one time i just wanted to install mongodb 4
followed their instructions for my distro
it complained that apt didnt have a requisit lib
googled it for my distro
no commands worked
found one that works with keyring
did that
installed mongo
rebooted
apt doesnt work at all anymore
gg
Community edition. Right?
i basically had to go back and manually replace apt with a manually extracted older version
yes
i also had to just use mongodb 3 cause i couldnt install 4 no matter what
Looking it up and there was mention of licensing issues and removal in various repositories.
Especially for arch. All gone for arch.
wasnt even using arch
Though am intrigued: non-table format for data storage?
Aye but i am so was curious
i just had to completely switch distros just for mongodb 4 since after a few months i wasnt happy with 3
not to mention whatever security holes it brought
Yeah so apparently mongodb switched from AGPLv3 license to. SSPLv1 licensing
Redhat and debian and arch removed it from their official repositories
u see their instructions didnt say to add any repos back then
it just complained about a dependency
which i havent even seen until then that those errors can happen
and in that confusion endless googling happened which at the end lead to apt not doing anything
Likely any old versions that would be available would want older stuff not available anymore. Or sumthin
ya but thats like one of those issues u know
as much as i hate windows
i had less trouble with it
Sounds like all the fault of mongodb honestly for not clear instructions and removing themselves from the repositories when they changed from the free licenses.
and yet on windows an error could also pop up about some visual redist missing or smth
i download it install it
nothing breaks
trust me id love to jump ship. it would make a good chunk of things easier and remove quiet a few programs i need rn due to doing admin on linux servers
Maybe the devs could be non lazy and leave a crash log too in a text file, idunno :P
Or put in install instructions
Like which dependency to get
Chinese graphics card supplier reportedly expects first GeForce RTX 40 shipment in less than a month According to Ilya Korneychuk from PRO Hi-Tech, their video card supplier from China is now expecting the first batch of RTX 40 graphics cards in less than a month.Β During PRO Hi-Tech tech news roundup it is mentioned that [β¦]
doesnt really fix the issue of hours of googling with commands that either dont work or dont exist on my distro
I can't comment on server stuff honestly.
But typicslly most of the normal desktop side of linux gonna run most of the same command lines with a few exceptions.
And these days you just run everything in premade containers so no fiddling around with your system package manager, for better or worse
exactly
and can, like, always run your shit in a virtual machine if you really want.
though i don't.
ngl some stuff i dont wanna containerize
and some stuff i cant
cause i need to compile smth to test crossplatform
and it just misses some headers that should exist on the distro but dont
I think there was onyl one time where I royally fucked things up but I can't rememebr what I did. was like, forever ago when I was baby new to linux though ... can't remember if it was the first release of manjaro or Ubuntu π€ but I was fiddling with things I shouldn't ahve fiddled with without knowing what I was doing lol
legit messed it up so bad couldn't be able to log in, broke the window manager
i mean i one time just wanted to uninstall x and all the stuff along with it
broke even the shell somehow
i think ubuntu on a laptop
yeah.
though when I tried ubunutu or anything debian, it was like 5-8 years ago and much things have changed
idk in the 8yrs ive used debian nothing really changed for me
except the canonical name
or whatever its called
I threw in manajaro on my laptop and dabbled on it and, while I didn't know what I was doing, it didn't catch on fire. I didn't figure out how t play much games on it but I dind't give it a serious try.
Well why not try something non-debian for a try?
not saying to commit to something different
I mean to just try.
which arch?
so just normal plain arch? yeah I wasn't brave enough to dive into that, thats essentially build from scratch. I went with pre-built ones
i also tried gentoo once altho in a vm
i just never had any good experiences with desktop linux besides.simple office stuff and home usage
its the compile everything os
oh, interesting
want chromium? compile it from source for 20mins
lol
wish i could say I had at least some of your esxperience on the server side of things. I just have me scrub side on the consumer end.
serer side i only experienced debian and rhel
more than me still ; I don't have a use for a server, sadly. I tried with some games but like. just didn't go anywhere. so i got a bunch of server hardware but not put to use.
even got a cloud server with 8 nodes in it.
Chromium compiled in 20 mins? Yeah I don't believe you
what hardware was it being compiled on?
Forever
and when i tried compiling firefox i basically left for the day
Still think the Nix style of doing packages is the future, now if only one were to make such a distro but without a terrible language for defining everything..
the frick is nix
i'm super curious how Valve is gonna do their desktop version of Steam OS.
ngl i thought steamos was dead
after steam machines kinda died
steamos might also be what gets me to use linux
they gave it support still to peopel that wanted it. SteamOS 3 is completely rewritten and different
It's a slightly different kind of package manager that you can install on theoretically any distro, due to the way it works it's no problem if different packages require different versions of dependencies and stuff
ngl idc what the future linux os i use is based on
just dont change the basic foundational packages every new version
if it stays arch etc ill use it gladly
It's also focused on buzzwords like reproducible builds and stuff, if a package builds on machine A it'll do the same on all other machines
Is there anything else than Linux, Windows or hackintosh I can use on my desktop hardware?
would be a widespread os and already save me headaches
templeos
Something more usable
but on the Steam Deck it has one issue, and it's that for updates from the deck-mode it kind just........ over-writes the whole OS π so like, pacmana dn such is behind a read-only thing. which you can turn off and install what you want if you desire but that wont work outside the deck enviornment.
then not really
Man I am done with Windows
we all are
Linux is annoying
Oh no! If I ever feel the desire to do more shenanigans on deck I'll just install everything in my home dir
only if u have the specific hardware
You know, running macos on stuff that's not supposed to run it
I'm just curious is all how they'll do normal desktop distro version and how it compared to the deck version, is all.
well u can buy the same cpu and gpu etc apple used and have almost no issues
i don't think you can buy an M1/2
the intel ones
SteamOS will probably never (officially) be a normal desktop distro
you mean from their cheese graters?
You mean steamos 3.0?
Because 2.0 and 1.0 were normal distros
No they weren't
They also booted directly up to BPM, sure there was also a desktop mode but you was not meant to use it
(i'm just making jjoke because fuck apple for trashcan desgin that is terrible and cheese grater being over priced crap )
π€· define desktop
They run on arbitrary hardware and have a launcher that launches programs
Something that you'd actually want to install on a general purpose computer
right
and for the CURRENT Steam OS there is a full blown desktop enviornment too
so I am curious how it['d be for Steam OS outside of the deck.
if it would have the frontend or just the KDE
https://github.com/theVakhovskeIsTaken/holoiso probably like this
maybe but thats some unofficial tweaked thing
Specifying "general purpose" pretty much disqualifies all of linux
does it?
Linux is whatever you want it to be
literally
want a server? there you go. Want a home office? yup. Game rig? ayup.
Yep
But as soon as you want it to do more than 2 things working at the same time it breaks
build from scratch? yup. Security concerns? covered too.
for example?
My game rig does home office stuff perfectly fine
nothings broken there.
Desktop units
document scanners?
Some
whats the issue with hooking up scanners?
Land if you install too many packages alot of things just start breaking
Some of em just don't have drivers
Linux is like arm
It works great for what it's designed for
But if you push the boundaries it starts to chug
And if you try to run something incompatible you are better off virtualizing π€£
And forget about old hardware
idunno about the part of "things jsut start breaking". also, a lack of driver support isn't the fault of linux.
It's a fault WITH Linux tho
no you're shifting the blame. it's on the manufacturers jsut not giving a fuck.
Ok so the word fault means issue or crack or break
I get what you mean
When you say fault of that is blame
Fault with means error
what I'm saying is the fault is on the manufacturer. if they don't give a fuck about the consumers enough to have coverage of support or enough awareness .. it's not a product you should have bought to begin with.
and hardware not supporting an operating system because of drivers been a thing since.... forever.
not really relevant to the user if its not working because linux or because of the manufacturer
the result is it doesnt work with linux
you are the one placing blame
I never said it was linux's fault
no the result is you bought a poorly supported hardware that you didn't do research if it worked for your OS or not.
It's not arms fault that x86 is more widely adopted
So it's not general purpose
gl changing that cause i havent met customers who research it
they buy it cause they assume itll generally work
not really word games imo
quin is right
to most consumers its the result they see
not whos fault it is
doesnt work on a pc so they just dislike it
doesnt matter if linux, windows, macos or whatever is at fault
it wouldn't be any of those ;/
and it wouldn't change if it was or wasn't general purpose if some manufacturers were shitty or not...
if someone only saw the bare surface of something and dind't look further : they shouldn't even be on a computer. which, sadly, is a lot of people.
some people abrely know what a power switch is half the time
they don't count as a 'result'
you see the issue os tho
they don't count for anything
There's already some that do. But these kind of people don't know and wouldn't care.
ngl i didnt know there is
the sad fact is be it macos or windows
people are used to a very fleshed out appstore and the ability to just open a file and it starts an installer for a program
Because Apple and iIcrosoft market and push these things as if they are the onyl ones that exist and don't provide anything else as options and, effectively, try to force the options such as TPM and secure boot and shit. so yeah. Were linux a company or priced they were already be sued heavily for anti-competition laws.
except tpm and secure boot arent made to lockout anyone?
and they been pushing this shit for decades, so it forms a brand culture.
yet I hear they cause issues for linux installations at times?
and installation guides that say to turn them off.
cause they are too lazy to tell people how to use the shimloader
or implement it themselves
microsoft literally never had an issue signing the linux secureboot efi files
5yrs
Yeah all the big distros have that stuff figured out nowadays, but..
https://gabrielsieben.tech/2022/07/25/the-power-of-microsoft-pluton-2/
can't say I knew of shim, so, that's somethign new I learned.
but it is a fact microsoft had for decades been extremely anti-open source
And now most open source projects rely on them (through github, and such...), funny how that works
thats because majority of the people that were against open source within microsoft have left it.
and the people in charge realize how stupid theyw ere and adapted accordingly
So
I might nuke my d3c
Deck of
Os today
Going to try and partition and duel boot a second distro
https://twitter.com/SebAaltonen/status/1552266666301587456 looks like as usual its just a matter of laptops coming later than apple products to market to offer competition
Seems that the Zenbook S13 OLED (Ryzen 6800U) is a good competitor for the M2 Macbook Air:
https://t.co/Sn2tTujlc0
For the same price you get 2x larger SSD + 2x RAM. Similar CPU/GPU perf, battery life and weight. And it has a great OLED screen...
But M2
That was nonsensical sounding
You mean manufacturers, not laptops.
Cause, like. Macbooks are laptops.
yes I guess you can add the word other before it
Anyways this comes to no shock because there will always be a product before and after another product, either better same or worse.
Could have said which version of M2 since it does make quite a difference
whats the difference
25% increase in amount of GPU cores
ok so the gfxbench test macbook has either like 3 points more or less, got it
What is 6800u power consumption?
its configurable
Or compare to M2 pro
doesn't exist yet
it might be idk
compare to M1 Pro, which is a monster already
can't wait to play RE8 on it
no word on mac release date, but I'm hoping for a release in line with the Winter's Expansion
Do you want to get a MacBook?
I play too many games to want to get a mac, and i dont to support the company. but i do want to try it.
It works well
Remember it's amd not intel
Oh wait nvm I am blind
Whoops mistaken you for Pleasant
sorry
if only Erik could mistake me for Pleasant and give me admin privileges
What would you use them for though?
And donβt need admin to ban just get into woothelp
@fair gull regarding your complains about compiling, yeah, it's a bitch. part of the problem is that a: nothing is standardized (for better or for worse), and b: many optimizations and build time flags and etc.
additionally if you aren't using a distro that's supported by the dev of said package or software, tough luck. see: using musl
I would love ban powers, but not with the added responsibility to help the fortnight kiddos with their dogshit game
but hey, you make it work

Well sometimes I feel like I donβt do enough tbf
But then as woothelp you donβt have to do fortnite really for that there is a separate role
You can just focus on the other issues unless you are fortnite support too
a pd hub?
My monitor has a built in usb hub and itβs great ngl

nvm
Aug
also stops me driving multiple monitors
And limits you to HDMI 2.0
4k60 idk if 10bpc
Well i dont have 4k60 anymore nvm higher and its a steam deck lol
1440p144 is higher
HDMI 2 does 1440/144hz
With HDR?
its a steam deck not a mobile 4090
It's only barely higher
With a real 4090 tho in the other room it can act like a mobile 4090
yeah and you'll need more than a hub that has 3 usb ports or so for power delivery
You want to run Linux on your main machine that bad?
Yes
All I can say is oof
The only GPU you could have bought that had an outright better and option at the time is the 3090ti
Anything Nvidia is poo on linux
Just run one of the main line supported distros
It really irritates me that Nvidia dropped officially publishing their supported list but generally afaik it hasn't changed recently
Oh they break it down now
X.org v 1.7-1.21
Kernel 3.10 and up
Etc
Oh no it's 1.7-1.20 , 21.1
one other thing i may well end up doing is storing my desktop on the other side of my room
and then use nvidia gamestream or w/e its called to stream it to your deck or monitor?
or amd link or whatever names they all have for those software packages almost nobody uses so you never remember the name
Moonlight (nv native) or parsec (windows native)
ah moonlight is not from nvidia, was going to complain how they renamed something yet again lol
Yea it's the openish client for Nvidia shield streaming
dead pixel? or some kind of blunt defect?
Literal bug
can't tell cause of the picture.
This is quite common during summer. Tiny insects manage to get in between the layers of LCD panels.
most def
especially her ein florida
very humid. bugs love it too much here.
though it could be a dead pixel. but I do recommend start cleaning the outside of it.
would do good to open it up and start cleaning too on the backside.
a dead pixel doesnt smear to the pixels around it
it might if it was more than just one and the 'smear' was light bleeding, or such. Though when I say dead I mean 'off' rather than 'wrong color'
It seems to have fucked off
Unless it is in fact several pixesl π
Been there.
Bugs like that have a lifespan of a day or two at most. So it happens real fast π
That's why I'd rather poison myself with insecticides than have insects in my apartment
Some of us sadly need cool air from an open window.
I relate to both of you
there are still some inside even though it's literally insect nets everywhere
I have no idea how
wait when has there been 4090's?
there hasnt
I just said that to make sure its clear a steam deck itself isnt powerful enough to reach limits of hdmi 2.0
at least not in any relevant form
Since late August this year gosh get with the memo /s
Maybe if someone hardware jury rigged it lol
Just give in to hairspray tony
The Radeon Raytracing Analyzer (RRA) is a tool designed to help improve the raytracing performance of AMD GPU's that support raytracing. The tool thus far focuses on the visualization of the Acceleration Structures, which consist of Bounding Volume Hierarchies.
Game developers are responsible for creating the acceleration structures and so need a method of visualizing these acceleration structures and how they can affect performance.
RRA allows the developer to visualize the bounding box hierarchies, and related scene geometries, via a standard rasterizer renderer or using a traveral counter view which will quickly hightlight areas of concern. Once identified, the developer can revisit their BVH generation strategy to reduce performance bottlenecks.

the point is its above 1k in non-brexit currency

I love the UI design

Hmm ngl this UI looks quite nice

build that pc january 2021 lol.. just haven't upgraded the gpu cuz they where always out of stock ..
hmm, 30 series will do just fine for valorant
ye, i mean the rx480 also works.. i play lowest settings possible; consistent 500+ fps (cpu carry)
I'd recommend 40 only if you are willing to wait a few months and play at least 1440p with good graphics
yeah, with low settings 30 series is almost overkill
1080p 240hz rn
i even with a 3080 i would never play on high settings
low settings are just so much better
yeah I completely agree
the smooth gameplay and consistent frametimes are a necessity, anything else is extra xd

How massive is their metaverse department if they are reporting losses bigger than some big corps
its kind of marks pet project, so far he doesn't seem to care if its finacially hopeless
I think Marky believes his Metaverse thing IS the future, and think it will eventually pay off with a new social media platform
Too bad for him VRchat and programs like already exist
hes a robot ofc the investment into that will be whatever it takes
Book. It was and is a book first. π
damn the intel HDR testing device is really good https://twitter.com/IntelGraphics/status/1552413397500698624
Itβs a new #IntelArc A750 Limited Edition graphics card demo, delivered by our own @ryanshrout! In todayβs vignette heβs showing off VRR and HDR, as well as details for HDMI support. Watch it here. https://t.co/CFslvdHG2C
All due to... stupid governments
guess I'll need to get that game now so I can make sure the HDR tester worked correct as I have the same screen
Odd
No Android 13 Beta for 6A
when was it released
What?
the phone
Technically today
when was the list released
yes
Idk what these are other than different versions of the os right?
idk I dont touch custom os stuff
but I imagine googling what they are is giving a quick result
Apparently the first one is Android 11
dsu is dynamic system updates i believe
Heh
I don't think their S series is that good but, I guess they are the mainstream android brand
samsungs poop
That they certainly are
Though the Tab S8 Ultra I have read a lot about
It's really really good
literally staring at samsung screen while typing this kek
at least assmung hasn't ruined it with too much of their software
SO MUCH FASTER
10 MB/s
- Lana
?
You do realize that simply running a ROM won't increase download speed
tmw lana still doesnt use tethering
then why it fasteR?
You are literally emulating, if anything it should be worse
probably a driver
that's the only logical idea
or your isp is just inconsistent in speeds
I think we are going to learn that Lana's internet is actually like 1 gigabit but she's running one of these as router
shes using her phone
you know my phone is my only wifi source, right?
ngl idk how that would work
it is wifi, cause I connect to the phone's hotspot over wifi
on my phone I call it the data speed
wifi doesnt imply internet access
this rom uses the google shit for hotspot, its a stock rom
maybe its more optimised?
Imagine not using 1.1.1.1
Why use a hotspot though, get a proper 4G or 5G if available router
Routers don't cost that much, lad
i thought three isnt capped
I had one, I know
lana u realize u can use ur current provider in a 4g router right?
o.o
My data plans are fun
yes but she said capped
just saying that this isnt the case
also lana wouldnt pay double
as she only has the big ass plan because she uses her phone as a make shift router
yeah, its why I picked this plan, unlimited data
Yeah it could be possible, perhaps even cheaper, to just get 2 separate plans on 2 different sims
That's not half bad
yeh, its a good plan for sure
That's including calls and sms?
its also only unlimited in ireland
calls and texts for free to my network
texts for free to any other network
exactly
i pay for calls to other networks
That's a fair plan
so she can just get a cheaper plan for her phone
and get the unlimited for a 4g router
can get this but their signal reception is known to suck in places that are not towns and cities
3
3
Gomo is some independant billpay plan from a company called Gomo
They literally called themselves Three
Tf
Is that even a surprise
not really
Lana doesn't function, that's a well known fact
Can't say I like that carrier
The plans seem limited
Or the selection of plans
I do love the 18GB roaming data, I used that last month in Norway
and when we went to Romania xd
but do they throttle the data speed after a certain amount of data is used?
No?
Idk your carrier seems to heavily limit what you can actually get from them
Either get a bundle or not
Not a thing
I really hate those service plans
You people stupid or what
how do they know what apps you are using?
12 euros for unlimited data, 20x less for just specific apps
If you don't need data but want a service, they give you an option
That's actually not bad
we had those service plans for spotify, which frankly makes good sense
... they monitor without a service plan too
yeah
then if you change your phone's DNS provider, will they no longer know?
even if you use vpn
o
they own the lines your data comes through, the dns servers you use and the nodes it travels, I wonder how they could know
ISP will always know what query outputted
right, cause the SIM card tells them
I mean the data itself is encrypted
I always forget a SIM card is a whole ass computer basically that does its own shit in the background
They just know where it came from and from which thing
they wouldn't bother unless you are a wanted person with a warrant
but yeah, they can always trace back...
if you use a vpn they just know data is passing but just won't know what it is
They shouldn't know what it is in general
vpn should be encrypted too
and tbh they even trace back tor network
Data packets are always encrypted I'm pretty sure, they can just view the signature
I don't know the exact details
but they can
they wouldn't automatically do that
they need to put extra effort
anyway if you dont want your carrier to know what you do just dont pay for a services packages, not really hard
ngl iTs kinda funny seeing people question how an isp know what service they use and such when the same people dont know how network packets work
I really love the HarmonyOS project :D
Literally stolen off of iOS
thats not what he said is funny
iPadOS 16 finally lets you use an external display with the iPad
wooooo
lets go xd
I mean, service providers spying or at least knowing what you do is literally unavoidable
Pretty sure IP is made that way so you can always read where and what came through from
yeh, cause SIM cards are what relays the data, not the phone
It's more how internet works in general at the fundamentals
correct otherwise a router wouldnt know where to route things
I might have sounded like I am certain of the things I said, which I tried to avoid, but it's not something I know exactly, just had conversations with people who I respected about the subject -- if that makes sense
its basically like using an uber. they know where u go just not why
and onion routing is like chaining ubers to reach 1 destination
each just know a tiny bit
at the end they still dont know why even if the ubers know each other
Vpn is like taking a uber to a different place and walking the rest of the way there
They do know who did it, though and where you reside at least
That's about it
na more like the vpn goes do shit for you and you go to the vpn
But they probably will rarely if ever know what you actually did yeah, but there are ways to actually break the packet seal
heyo m8
watta got dare???
Google Pixel Buds Pro promotion video
in the modern world of tls and ssl not really unless u use some ancient shit that doesnt encrypt packets
Pretty sure I heard that TLS had its own share of exploits
Isn't there also cases of SSL getting fucked
But yeah it's fairly secure
ssl is older than tls1.3
and afaik tls1.3 itself doesnt really have vulns
unless u somehow downgrade the connection
like many of the tls exploits rely on
saddens me to see ssl and tls being used so interchangeably
They'll open up if the government says so.
Signal: he doesn't know pepelaugh
pny brand ssd, yay or nay
the one am eyeballing is called cs900
its for an older laptop
about $87 for a 1tb
From amazon?
nah computer store chain here
Idk I'd really get an 860 EVO
amazon se does have a kingston a400 960gb slightly cheaper
Don't touch the QVO ones if you can
860 evo cost the same for half the storage
If you can get the 860 EVO, Crucial mx500, maybe Adata SU800 or some WD Blue ones, I would trust them more
I find that hard to believe
EU or NA?
Ahh
You can't go wrong with the 860 or 870
Just for the love of god, not QVO
Cause judging by cs900 benchmarks, it's not that good to be fair
don't really need anything super fast or lasting a decade for this application, bf just wants to fit some more games on his crappy old gaming laptop
I'd still go with Samsung
samsung ssds are usually good ; have an old 750 evo as external hard drive and 970 as main rn
You pay marginally more for a far more trustworthy product
I threw an a2000 1tb m.2 into my desktop
Anything Samsung with QVO in its name is probably ass
100 bucks for 1tb?
for the right price I'd consider it
Though yeah, my samsung solid states are still running fine.
MX500 is pretty much as standard as it gets
Just avoid adata
Don't
Adata is fine
Their super budget stuff is crappy
But their average stuff is fine
as with anything ignore brand names and look at the product itself
Brand name carries weight
Mostly for Samsung though
Anyways nightman MX500 is about the same price you mentioned and is a more trustworthy product than the PNY's one
the local shop also has the benefit of you not having to use amazon so thats a plus
Amazon is as cheap as it gets
I typically look at either crucial or kingston for cheaper midrange storage and its worked out fine so far
yeah but amazon is also a terrible company so not using it if you have something local is good
When price matters, price matters
amazon has a kingston 960gb slightly cheaper than that pny, but I'd prefer to avoid amazon if I can
can probably find something equivalent
What country are you from
sweden
Sweden eh
amazon launched here not long ago
doing okay-ish I suppose but there already was plenty of competitors in their field
ebay isn't as branched out here domestically, its pretty much all international sellers
Most likely still cheaper than what your local chain can offer
yea maybe
I wouldn't settle lower than a Crucial or Samsung
yeah might settle for a 500gb
do any of ya'll have any experience with western digitals ssds? I was looking to get one of their external ones
Idk I find 500GB always low
sure storage can be migrated but still don't want to splurge on a crusty old laptop
External as in, portable?
yes

Help secure your drive and keep productivity flowing with password enabled 256-bit AES hardware encryption....
this one specifically
same but he thinks it'll be enough, I won't settle on that until I've exhausted all the vendor options for a 1tb tho
there's a wd blue 1tb for about $92
bit steep for a sata
wd reputable tho
Ah as SSD
WD is a dark horse imo
Either they are best in class, or underdeliver
ik their hdds are good Just don't know about their ssds
Actually, I'd never get a portable HDD
So slow it's unbearable
Performance seems alright on this one
they're not bad, I have a 5tb external wd HDD, about 100MB/s
Hmm
Seems like it struggles with stress tasks, probably due to lack of cache
Actually the first thing I see when I open up external SSD
I have trust issues with san disk because of their flash drives
overheating and getting slower and unusable in about a month
sd cards are fine, don't know about their ssds
yeah budget portable usb hdds can barely play mp3s off its drives without having to halt and read occasionally
Every journey needs a passport. The My Passport drive is trusted, portable storage that gives you the confidence and freedom to drive forward in life. WD and SanDisk seem to go toe to toe when it comes to externals
This is what I have, Haven't had issues with it
even playing mkv flac audio movies on it
Meh WD is fine for this price, I don't see much negatives about it
Seems that some of em failed, and it's near impossible to recover data
to my experience most brands fucks up and puts out a bad run of drives on occasion
And expecting hard drives to be reliable is just plain misguided
We were talking about solid states
Hard Drives are reliable, its just a matter of lifespan and fragility. Whether it was badly manufactured is a separate matter.
But, obviously, comparing those two factors to a solid will make them look trash.
ended up getting the wd blue 1tb
had a decent price for the size/specs, and most pages on google results seemed to regard it favorably
Which one is it?
Most likely not an SN model
Those are all afaik really good but M.2 only
WD Blue 3D NAND SSD 1TB 2.5"
Well that's a generic name
WDS100T2B0A product no
seems about as fast at r/w as a sata ssd gets too
If it hits the R/W as advertised, that's fine
@reef patrol DallE2 is honestly amazing
I have been looking up picks that were made by it, it's shocking how good AI is now at doing this sort of thing
I know! I've been using a Dalle2 avatar for weeks π
Very limited sign up list for the time being.
Once a day, has to be confirmed by devs, paid usage, etc
I heard that you can't prompt it specific things
And it has to be manually confirmed
Although idk the specifics

apparently you can put an m.2 in these laptops but you have to hax the bios with a 3rd party version to make it support nvme protocol
That is absolutely a lie
I mean if you look at the backblaze stats, there are a lot of 0 failure drives, they just have an age of a month and not longer
Not a lie, it is a matter of life span and fragility for it is mechanical in nature. Wear and tear. It's reliable in the short term if there isn't a manufacture defect and not mishandled.
It's also known that if you as much as drop the thing, or really any kind of shock would kinda fuck it
SSDs are far more reliable
it could, yeah. though recover is possible even if damaged.
I agree
SSDs are far better
Then again
Why are we talking about mechanical hard drives, the talk was about solid states
the first gens of SSDs were quite dodgy tho
it's about relative perspective here. There's nothing wrong with a hard drive in terms of it's usability and functionality within the appropriate usage and time span. But, yes, the life span is no where near as long as a solid state.

I'm live in the People's Call Center monitoring scammers. Come join me!
Hol up
It didn't support 1440p until now?
certainly wont be playing games at that resolution though, except for menus or such
huh
huh
It's just Sony being a Japanese company, and japan doesn't know the pc market all, nor do they know about people hooking consoles up to monitors.
A hardware limitation would make little sense.
Default render resolution for checkerboarding is 1800p
'specially considering it's a Navi video engine
I would be happy for 1440p since my main monitor is 1440p144
well its a custom thing maybe they just didn't add chuks that were needed idk
like its some rdna1-3 mash and not regular apu
As far as I know most gpu's can basically output at arbitrary resolutions / refresh rates as long the bandwidth checks out.
Yep it's just pixel clock
244w .. they have lost their mind
So many pings today
that's basically just the same tdp as alder lake so nothing really changed
no 244 is the peak
and its during a stress test that is not something you ever run unless you do simulation work or similar
something high end like be quiet dark rock pro 4 has theoretical 250w tdp. that shit will be 95 degrees most of the time
in what workload
I kinda hate that I'm forced to get at least an 800W PSU for this and ever more so, next GPU and CPU gen
in games you wil pull like 100w more like
and btw i was talking about the 13700k .. 12700k has 190w tdp
13700k is given with 244
and 12900k has like 245 or so
241 vs 253
also the 12700 is 8+4, the 13700 is 8+8 cores
probs needs an AIO now to be cooled
like a beefy one
and it will still thermal throttle
again, not when you are gaming
who buys a 16-24core cpu to just game?
Me
im absolutely baffled by these numbers
Tho I also just bought a 4 core CPU just to game
there, single thread doesnt even reach 100w without OC
like yea its funny memes but PL2 value is not the average power draw lol
The long term power limit is exactly equal to the tdp
It only uses more power in short bursts
So technically the tdp isn't a complete lie unlike amd...
its even better than amd in some cases for gaming
It wouldn't surprise me if in a future system I will downclock my cpu / gpu. You can save a lot of power for farily little performance loss.
Very little average
But you do lose alot in the percentiles...
thing is frequency does not scale linearly with power so a small decrease can have a significant effect on power / noice
Yes
But if you are setting clocks (which is what you need to do with amd or Intel) you lose out quite a lot on max clocks
And if you limit power directly the frame times hurt baaaad
Hopefully both will start providing offset clocks
And improve their boost algs
hahahahah oh god poor intel
Intel Q2 2022 Earnings Are a Disaster as Revenue and EPS Miss by Double-digit Percent
15 minutes till earnings call, this gonna be fun
Oh what a disaster they will make less money this quarter than amd made last year
What a disaster /s
well the stock is tanking hard
Yea Intel is throwing short term investors under the bus
Time scales matter here
the problem is they have been doing that for a while and as much as I agree with that being the right strategy so far its not paying off
yes thats today
That's not true
Gelsinger was put in place about a year ago
after market hours are only shown in the daily trend
The semi product cycle is 5 years long
I do expect intel to spin off its foundry business in time.
for comparison its the lowest its been at for >1 year
Yea
2017 was the last time it was lower
When you kick out a financial > engineering person the stock will go down
Also to make matters worse you are looking at it in euro's
so the drop of the euro also factors in in the other direction
ehh not really
It definitely matters looking at the two imo
It doubled the drop...
I guess, but in terms of when it was last that low its same timeframe more of less
the one day view was dollars btw
Why do I get eye strain from my 27β monitor after one hour while my MacBook or phone are okay for even entire day
Too much blue?
Why would it be any different from any other monitor? But gonna try mode to reduce blue
