One type of games that can be fun even or phone are mostly browser based long term strategies. Not many of them out there, but the ones where you can actually capture enemy land, win, but it can take months. Grepolis is and was great, and always had ton of active alliances. Just may take too much time.
Game like call of war is kinda similar just lot shorter and without much player communication. Issue is pay 2 win. If you have enough money you just get so many advantages in these games usually.

Idk. But grepolis was great in this sense. One game would end but last sometimes even half a year, you had 20-50 player alliances actually cooperating and talking every day, you could get a new city or capture one and completely wipe others off map. Units and buildings also worked really simply, same as attacks. But it was fun. Also night attacks being 50% weaker was nice, and all the planning that had gone into everything.
