btw, i just finally watched soviets first three "Video Essay: DayZ" videos.
and damn. first of all, i always forget how amazing his editing is. he is so great with it.
but also wow. i always kind of had this feel that the whole battle royale genre seemed familiar in it's methods and all. but i definitly did not make the connection to my dayZ time.
I've also been one of the stupids that near immediatly went and bought the dayZ standalone... and he perfectly described what happened.
the whole mess, the whole dissatisfaction i had with this game over all the time, and why i never bothered to reinstall, and try it out again after all that time.
Even Rust had gotten a few sporadic chances over the course of time. Sure, i was a bit sad when the zombies and all got removed from it, because it wasnt "how it was from the start" but to be fair. i think it's been a good decision on Rust's side. i dont really miss the zombies or the stupid areas. but admittedly, i havent played it in a while now.
... there is just something about games with pvp in mind that is not my lovely. I like building stuff, but i dont like that the next morning it can very well be razed into the ground by others within seconds.
I mean, Sea of Thieves, which i just recently picked up, also eerily precisely falls into this same spectrum. but with it's decision to have the same weapons for everyone it did a proper choice regarding pvp i think. Those aiming for it, they can master it in their way, while people like me, who arent really pvp fans, still have somewhat of a chance. even if it is just running away. lol.
i do miss the little "gather everything and keep it" regarding wood and food, but it's not too difficult to find more again the next time you start it

EU4 did suffer from a period of too many dlc, honestly I think the best moving forward is if they just give everyone the old packs for free. Doing it in such a way that you never have a huge barrier to entry.
I played it from about launch, then got the dlc that was out at that point bundled. then just generally stuck with 1 major dlc behind.
price in total sure quite a bit but so is the time invested.

Flavour - Adds more fluff to the existing games. Encounters, more cosmetics and music.-

The first game was a cult classic.
It's the World of Darkness brand as a whole that is where the fans are at.
And Bloodlines 2 is a halo title for this purpose whether they want it to be or not.
If it fails, the WoD brand (which is finally taking off for real this year) is going to take a hard hit.
I genuinely think Paradox would release it at a loss, just to cover their massive WoD investment as a whole.
They need it to show they can do AAA. Even if terribly delayed.
They need it to keep Vampire, Werewolf, Mage (and the other sub-universes) popular and fans happy. They just released a new version of Vampire with plenty of additional books planned to flesh it out.
5-6 games (maybe more) games in the universe launched this year. All licensed to indie devs who do their own thing.

i really enjoyed anno 1800 a lot.
and to mansen saying that later the factory eats up all your taxes:
i had a point where this was true, but it was also partly because i was producing some stuff that i didnt even need.
when i had paused (in this case) my heavy weapons factory chain, i made big plus.
after getting a few more residents, i'm currently at a plus of 7,000 or so. in between i had a plus of over 14,000.
it's a balancing act of residents, productions, ships, etc.
I'm sure that if i finally get rid of some of my unnecessary military ships, i'll be able to save up another one or two K...
